- In this paper I explore the consistency of an idea of language structures as both universal in their nature and empirical in their genesis. To this aim, I assume the theory of the parts of speech as a case study. I proceed from a brief historical reconstruction of 20th-century theories of grammatical categories to an analysis of the semantics of the parts of speech, with particular emphasis on Ronald Langacker's philosophy of grammar. Finally I focus on the theory of prepositions in order to explore the relations between language and perception and the function of perceptual schemas at the basis of linguistic categories. Keywords: Linguistic universals, Parts of speech, Perceptual schemas, Cognitive linguistics, Prepositions, Philosophy of grammar.Parole chiave: Universali linguistici, Parti del discorso, Schemi percettivi, Linguistica cognitiva, Preposizioni, Filosofia della grammatica.

The article focuses on contemporary trends in contrastive studies. As a point of departure the nature, history and evolution of contrastive linguistics are examined. Contrastive linguistics is viewed in relation to other disciplines such as comparative linguistics, comparative historical linguistics, linguistic typology, theory of translation, and foreign language teaching. Any aspect of language may be covered in cross-linguistic studies which involve a systematic comparison of two or more languages both at micro-linguistic and macro-linguistic level. The current trends are identified in terms of macro-linguistic widening of contrastive analysis which is applied in studies of specialized discourses such as media, political and academic communication. The findings are based on a small-scale research of contrastive studies published in Contrastive Linguistics, the oldest international journal for contrastive linguistics. By conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis and employing a diachronic approach conclusions are drawn about the need for the contrastive approach at macro-level, the type of linguistic phenomena studied and the preferred methods of contrastive analysis within a period of forty-six years. The findings show that there is only a slight increase in macro-linguistic analyses in recent years, but contrastive analysis remains a vibrant area of research with a potential for development at discourse level in particular and implications for intercultural understanding and tolerance.

This article delves into the intricate cognitive and linguistic dimensions of the term “frame” within contemporary linguistics. Originally introduced in artificial intelligence to organize databases, the concept of a frame has evolved to become a pivotal tool in linguistic analysis, enabling the depiction of diverse worldviews inherent to different languages. A frame is conceptualized as a structure comprising nodes (concepts) and connections, functioning akin to gestalt units by integrating sensory and rational elements. Charles Fillmore's definition positions frames as cognitive structures associated with the knowledge represented by words, encompassing both linguistic and extralinguistic information.

In the article on the base of the linguistic synergetics concept of G. G. Piotrovsky the problems of French linguistics metalanguage, issues of linguistic terminology are examined. The author emphasizes that the metalanguage of linguistics is a complex phenomenon, which, on the one hand, there are the system relations between terms, on the other one there are general academic vocabulary, words and phrases that are used when describing various aspects of linguistic research. Terminology of linguistics requires a special effort in the studying, because the object-language and metalanguage coincide in terms of expression, that is, have the same substance. The article presents the analysis of the metalanguage state of French linguistics, which is a diachronic interweaving of numerous schools and directions, author’s theories and concepts; the distinctive features of the French linguistic terminology are examined. It is noted that in the semiotic aspect the French linguistic terminology is characterized by the following properties: French linguistic term is a simple or complex sign that in the framework of French lingui stics embodies a linguistic concept in its meaning. Terminological field of French linguistics meets the semantic space that is a counterpart of the French linguistics as a special subject area and includes the totality of semantic fields of general lingui stic, grammatical, phonetic, phonological and lexicological terms.

The study of Malay linguistics is a dynamic and intellectually engaging pursuit that provides valuable insights into the nuanced subtleties of one of the world's most widely spoken languages. The study of the Malay language holds a significant place in the extensive field of linguistic research because it reflects the diverse linguistic and cultural legacy of the Malay Archipelago. The study explores and analyses Malay linguistic studies conducted over the past two decades, examining trends, types of studies, research methodologies, prevalent themes, and author networks within Malay linguistics. The study employs bibliometric analysis of articles retrieved from the Scopus database using the keyword "Malay Linguistic." Utilising Vosviewer software, it identifies key trends and essential research themes within Malay linguistics. The findings revealed several key points. Firstly, publication trends in Malay linguistics varied over two decades, peaking at 91 publications in 2023, with stability observed from 2004 to 2009. This dynamic reflects evolving research interests with 724 publications. Major publishing venues were predominantly international journals in Malaysia and beyond the Malay Archipelago. Secondly, qualitative research was the primary method, often complemented by interdisciplinary and mixed-method approaches. Thirdly, common themes included Malay communities, dialect variations, identity, language structure, and applied linguistics. Fourthly, the author network in Malay linguistics remains interconnected, primarily among researchers from the Malay Peninsula. The trend of study themes in Malay linguistics has remained relatively stable, showing continuity with the status quo of the previous patterns. However, there has been a noticeable development in publication venues and author networks during this period.

The article deals with the analysis of anthropocentric paradigm in the Slavic dialectology, the modern phase of which can be rightly characterized by the formation of “analytical, explaining dialectology” which focuses on deep interpretation of dialect words and analysis of traditional culture language. Due to N. I. Tolstoy a new approach in cultural language dialectology was formed – ethnolinguistics, in which dialect word is studied through the lens of cultural anthropology, since adequate understanding of a language is only possible through abandoning the strictly linguistical limitations and applying other forms of knowledge, including philosophy, logic, psychology, sociology, ethnography, history etc. Ethnolinguistics moved from “immanent” linguistics, existing “in itself and for itself” towards what Kibrik termed “what/why linguistics”, the logic of which hinges on the central premise of anthropocentric linguistics, “finding a way towards a human through language”. According to Tolstoy, only language can provide a true image of the linguistic consciousness of an individual within a specific culture with all its complexity and nuance. Linguistic reconstruction of the cognitive structure behind a dialect word allows the shift from empirical data to interpretation, from collecting data to explaining it. The importance of Tolstoy’s ideas and its relevance is proved by, among other things, the “Slavic linguistical atlas” project, which was started largely thanks to Tolstoy himself.

AbstractIn the past few decades, it has extensively been written about corpus linguistics, which has owned its upswing mainly to the use of electronic corpora since the 1960s (Brown Corpus). Meanwhile, an increasing number of fields within general and applied linguistics (e.g. computational linguistics, discourse analysis, contrastive linguistics, diachronic and synchronic linguistics, language teaching and learning research, lexicology and lexicography, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, translation studies) have been using corpus linguistic methods. In linguistic research, the empirical and descriptive character of corpus-based linguistic analysis has also been given an emphasis. Thanks to the digital revolution of the 20th and 21st centuries the creation and provision of digital linguistic corpora is becoming accessible for smaller nations and language communities as well as for scientists. Nowadays, linguistic corpora cannot only be regarded as a tool to support language research and Translation Studies, but they also contribute to the enrichment of cultural diversity. The article focuses on international examples as well as on the most significant Hungarian corpora. The paper also discusses the criteria of corpus creation and several cultural aspects of corpus linguistics.

Words are usually used in their direct meaning, but often the information provided is hidden. Manipulation is used in almost all spheres of human activity — in politics, advertising, jurisprudence, literature, psychotherapy, training, informal communication, etc., that makes it relevant for researchers. The article deals with the main points of view on linguistic manipulation as a complex psycholinguistic process and a kind of linguistic influence by the method of analysis, synthesis and generalization of scientific researches of native and foreign specialists in linguistics, psychology, rhetoric, neurolinguistic programming and discourse theory. Although the manipulative capacity of language is increasingly becoming the object of various linguistic studies, the main complexities of studying the phenomenon of speech influence remain. They are due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject matter, the confusion of different modes of influence in language practices, and the lack of a generally accepted classification of means and methods of manipulation in linguistics. The main features of manipulation are: the hidden nature of the influence; the desire to subordinate the addressee of his will, change his views, perceptions, etc.; mastery of language and psychological skills; special linguistic organization of the text that contributes to errors in the interlocutor’s mind; lack of a defensive response from the addressee and the creation of the illusion of decision-making independence. Taken together, all these features distinguish linguistic manipulation from other forms of influence (rhetorically organized language, linguistic demagogy, propaganda, and neurolinguistic programming).

A linguistic analysis of literature has caused debates among linguists and between linguists and literary critics. The debate among linguists occurs because they have different opinions regarding the nature of literary language, while the debate between linguists and literary scholars arises as literary scholars question the authority of linguistics to study literary writings. Therefore, in this paper I argue that the language of literature is similar to that of non-literary texts, and I also believe that because the centrality of language in literary writings, linguistics, as the study of language, has the authority to study literature. One linguistic approach to literature is stylistics, which studies the forms, functions, and meanings of literary language in a detailed and systematic way. Linguistic competence has had a significant influence on English language teaching. Linguistic competence is largely concerned with a notion shared by language teachers and learners when using language knowledge in real performance. English teachers are expected to have this competency. The present study aimed to examine linguistic competence in morphology teaching, which was demonstrated by an English teacher. The morphology teaching was sourced from a series of YouTube videos which were broadcast by a teacher on a Youtube channel. This study was carried out by analyzing the linguistic competence of the teacher in each video by analogizing the teacher’s knowledge with the theory from the linguistics book written by some experts. The selected books which were used to analyze were: “How English Works, A Linguistic Introduction” (Curzan & Adams, 2012); “Linguistics, An Introduction” (Radford et al., 2009); and “Contemporary Linguistic Analysis, An Introduction” (O’Grady & Archibald, 2016). The study’s findings revealed that the teacher had sufficient linguistic competence while delivering the course. The findings also assisted in recognizing that linguistic competence is a significant part of the analysis in terms of how a teacher may remain competent while providing the course. In short, linguistics is considered valuable because it may increase teacher’s awareness of language, making the teacher more competent and, hence, a better language teacher.

Focusing on computational linguistic approaches to English linguistics, this research explores how computational methods can be applied to dissect, understand and utilise the English language. We first looked at text analysis and processing, delving into natural language processing techniques such as text categorisation, sentiment analysis and machine translation, and their application to social media and automated text processing. In the area of lexicography and semantics, we explored how techniques such as distributed word vectors, semantic role labelling and sentiment analysis can deepen our understanding of vocabulary and semantics. We highlight the importance of these techniques in natural language processing tasks such as sentiment analysis and information retrieval. In addition, we focus on cross-language comparative and multilingual research, emphasising how big data and cross-language comparative research can reveal similarities and differences between languages and their implications for global linguistics. Finally, we explore corpus linguistics and big data analytics, highlighting the richness of linguistic data and tools they provide for linguistic research. Overall, this study highlights the importance of computational linguistic approaches to English linguistics and how they have transformed the way linguistics is studied and language technology has evolved. Future research trends will continue to drive the further development of computational linguistics methods, leading to a closer integration of linguistics with big data analytics and computational methods, creating more opportunities for the future of the field of linguistics.

In their conceptual framework for linguistic literacy development, Ravid & Tolchinsky synthesize research studies from several perspectives. One of these is corpus-based research, which has been used for several large-scale research studies of spoken and written registers over the past 20 years. In this approach, a large, principled collection of natural texts (a ‘corpus’) is analysed using computational and interactive techniques, to identify the salient linguistic characteristics of each register or text variety. Three characteristics of corpus-based analysis are particularly important (see Biber, Conrad & Reppen 1998):[bull ] a special concern for the representativeness of the text sample being analysed, and for the generalizability of findings;[bull ] overt recognition of the interactions among linguistic features: the ways in which features co-occur and alternate;[bull ] a focus on register as the most important parameter of linguistic variation: strong patterns of use in one register often represent only weak patterns in other registers.

Linguistic forensics can be seen as an applied linguistic science because forensic linguistics uses the application of language analysis that can include phonetics, phonology, lexigramatika, semantic discourse, and other linguistic elements for the benefit of legal processes. In its increasingly dynamic development, language analysis in forensic linguistics has a unique dimension that requires special study. This research aims to discuss aspects in the dimension of language analysis used for forensic linguistics with the main variety of writing. The discussion of the variety is associated with the language used in the lease agreement as well as the context implied in it. The discussion is also enriched with references to several studies to display the potential that can be explored more deeply. The method used in this study is the qualitative descriptive method because this research focuses on the dimensions of language analysis that are typical in forensic linguistics i.e. comparative dimension, differentiator, and gauge. It is expected that this article can contribute insight into the development of forensic linguistics research.

The dramatic expansion of modern linguistic research and enhanced accuracy of linguistic analysis have become a reality due to the ability of artificial neural networks not only to learn and adapt, but also carry out automate linguistic analysis, select, modify and compare texts of various types and genres. The purpose of this article and the journal issue as a whole is to present modern areas of research in computational linguistics and linguistic complexology, as well as to define a solid rationale for the new interdisciplinary field, i.e. discourse complexology. The review of trends in computational linguistics focuses on the following aspects of research: applied problems and methods, computational linguistic resources, contribution of theoretical linguistics to computational linguistics, and the use of deep learning neural networks. The special issue also addresses the problem of objective and relative text complexity and its assessment. We focus on the two main approaches to linguistic complexity assessment: “parametric approach” and machine learning. The findings of the studies published in this special issue indicate a major contribution of computational linguistics to discourse complexology, including new algorithms developed to solve discourse complexology problems. The issue outlines the research areas of linguistic complexology and provides a framework to guide its further development including a design of a complexity matrix for texts of various types and genres, refining the list of complexity predictors, validating new complexity criteria, and expanding databases for natural language.

The research article section, especially the introduction, has been a focus of scholarly discourse research for many years while linguistic strategies in the conclusion of research articles remain understudied. Moreover, most of the previous studies discussed linguistic features from the perspective of single-language strategies. Given this, this paper adopted an MDA (multi-dimensional analysis) method (Biber, 1988) to analyze the distribution of 67 linguistics features in the conclusions of 200 RAs (Research Articles) with the aid of the corpus tool MAT (Multi-dimensional Analysis Tagger) devised by Nini. The result showed that the dimension scores directed to the negative polarity for Dimension 1 (Mean=-15.80, SD=5.40), Dimension 2 (Mean=-2.61, SD=2.08) and Dimension 4 (Mean=-1.62, SD=2.74), and positive polarity for Dimension 3 (Mean=7.33, SD=2.85), Dimension 5 (Mean=5.47, SD=3.05), which indicated that conclusions of linguistic RAs are presented as informational-dense, relatively context-independent, less explicitly persuasive, highly technical, and abstract. Besides, the main linguistic features that contributed to the language variation of the RAs conclusion writing in Linguistics are Nouns, Attributive adjectives, Present tenses, Past participial WHIZ deletions, Phrasal coordination, Nominalization, Pied piping constructions, Infinitive TO, Possibility modals (e.g. may, might), Suasive verbs and Agentless passives. The study revealed the specific distribution of linguistic features of conclusion writing in RAs, highlighting the nature of informativeness and the abstractness of academic writing. This study may have some implications for writing academic papers, especially for graduates studying linguistics.

Abstract As an introduction to the special issue, this paper presents an overview of previous corpus linguistic work in the field of language and sexuality and discusses the compatibility of corpus linguistic methodology with queer linguistics as a central theoretical approach in language and sexuality studies. The discussion is structured around five prototypical aspects of corpus linguistics that may be deemed problematic from a poststructuralist, queer linguistic perspective: quantification and associated notions of objectivity, reliance on linguistic forms and formal presence, concentration on highly frequent features, reliance on categories, and highlighting of differences. It is argued that none of these aspects rules out an application of corpus linguistic techniques within queer theoretically informed linguistic work per se and that it is rather the way these techniques are employed that can be seen as more or less compatible with queer linguistics. To complement the theoretical discussion, a collocation analysis of sexual descriptive adjectives in the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) is conducted in an attempt to address some of the issues raised. The concluding section makes suggestions for future research.

An overview of domestic publications on conflictology in the field of linguistics is provided in the article. A quantitative analysis of linguistic works on the problem of conflict from 1990 to 2022 is carried out. The linguistic features of the study of conflict in dissertations, monographs, articles and textbooks are evaluated. Leading research methods: bibliometric analysis, publication method, classification method. The relevance of the study is related to the objective need to understand conflicts in different areas of scientific knowledge, as well as the need to study the contribution of the philological sciences to the development of modern conflictology. Monitoring of linguistic works on conflict shows that linguistics is beginning to take a strong place in the theory of conflictology. The analysis of bibliographic information allows us to characterize the main directions of the problem of conflict study in linguistics: contradictions in language and speech, conflict of language norms, conceptual essence of the conflict phenomenon, verbalization of the concept CONFLICT, objectification of reality conflicts in texts, language markers of conflict potential, destructive practices of conflict, ways of communication optimization, legal dimension of linguistic conflict, linguistic ways of conflict prevention. The author’s diversification of linguistic works by types of conflict is presented in the article.

The article is devoted to the linguistics of color as an urgent general method of linguistic research into color and as instruments of translation of texts containing terms of color (words with a color component). The problems of such translation are presented in the article against the background of theoretic aspects of linguistics of color as a sphere of contemporary linguistic studies. The linguistics of color is represented as a widely elaborated sphere of linguistic knowledge which has its worked-out notable directions, research institutions and a range of investigating problems. The basic concepts of the linguistics of color are analyzed from the perspective of pragmatics and are embodied into the practice of translation. Linguistics of color’s critical apparatus is considered on the basis of linguistic colorimetry as a collection of particular methods contributing to understanding and translation of texts with color terms. The comprehension of color terms and possibilities of their translation depend on determining their role in the lexical systems of both the source and target languages and their place in the linguistic worldviews. Results. The experience of color terms research concentrated in the linguistics of color and embodied in the linguistic colorimetry’s critical apparatus creates possibilities (on the basis of linguistic colorimetry methods and methods of contrastive analysis) for working out different ways of translating this lexical class. The results of the research consist in disclosure of complicated moments of texts with terms of color, the describing of translation’s problems, the compiling of recommendations as to how to deal with the terms of color and eliminate the translation problems and create a natural linguistic environment in the translated text. Conclusions. The elimination of translation problems can be reached by using critical apparatus of linguistic colorimetry. This apparatus of disclosure of ethnic color priorities and ethnic color inclinations was created in the linguistics of color and concentrated in the linguistic colorimetry. The linguistic colorimetry based on linguistics of color is a useful collection of methods and recommendations. It is an effective mechanism contributing to the practice of understanding and translation of the figurative structure of lexical units with color components.

Geolinguistics, or so-called geographical linguistics, is concerned with human languages, their dialects, and their distribution on the map of the world, and seeks to count the number of users of this or that language, or those who speak it, taking into account the compatibility and differences between the various performances. This study aims to try to draw the general linguistic features of Arab geographers, and to highlight them by extracting some linguistic issues in which the style of their linguistic thinking becomes clear to us. The study of selected Arab geographical literature includes a modern linguistic study within the framework of the study of the first indications of geographic linguistics, and the study of its topics, contents and future visions of this science in the light of what these books contain. From this standpoint, the importance of this research comes from the level of morphological linguistic analysis in models from the main geographical books.

The first antecedents in the service of the language of the Holy Qur'an were serious about learning, teaching and compilation. They exerted extraordinary efforts that reflected an organized mentality, sincerity and unparalleled dedication which impressed the whole world. These efforts included the linguistic part of the language, its morphology, phonetics and dictionary, and they have in each aspect fruitful studies and precedent and informed opinions. There are several aspects that have contributed to the admission of linguistics into modern Arab culture. Of these, sending Arab scholarships to western universities; conducting university studies and thesis by Arab students in European and American universities; establishing a special section in linguistics in some Arab universities; the emergence of linguistic writings known as modern linguistics; the emergence of Arabic translations of some linguistic articles; the organization of local and international scientific seminars and meetings in the field of linguistics; and the establishment of self-list specialties in general linguistics. However, it is no wonder that others add up to the achievements of the antecedents of theories that deal with linguistic studies, and extract meanings from beyond the linguistic text, all of which is related to the renaissance witnessed by other sciences in the modern era, and which linguists have benefited from in the linguistic field. Some linguists have collected the terms that have emerged from modern linguistic literature, who have varied in their approaches in arranging these terms. I have chosen five of these general linguistic dictionaries and addressed them in description and analysis, indicating the differences amongst them and what distinguishes each from others.

The current paper aims at considering language studies in China in its totalitarian period. In the author's concept, the term «totalitarian» linguistics for the linguistics of a totalitarian state is used, which means a set of discursive practices that influence the activities of linguists and the results of their scientific work. The analysis is carried out using the method of narrative linguistic historiography. The results of the study show that «totalitarian» linguistics in China is a result of symbiosis of destructive and constructive influences that determined its relevant features. These are rejecting Indo-European linguistic experience; following the principles of Soviet Union Linguistics, sometimes with extremes like calking certain Russian grammatical categories; practical approach and the focus on issues on National language and its standard, eliminating illiteracy, supporting language minorities as well as addressing the issues of phonetics and phonology, language history and translation. The prevailing hallmark within contemporary paradigms of humanitarian research is anthropocentrism, characterized principally by its invocation of Homo Loquens, or "speaking man." Within this context, the scrutiny of discourse, which embodies the pivotal facet of human existence expressed through language, assumes a paramount role. It is not fortuitous that discursive linguistics has presently become an integral component of anthropocentric linguistics, introducing innovative methodologies for acquiring, describing, and interpreting linguistic materials. The discursive dimension mandates an examination of linguistic phenomena in conjunction with cultural-historical, socio-situational, and communicative-pragmatic attributes. The effective deployment of communicative strategies necessitates the utilization of rhetorical devices such as metaphor, analogy, epithet, anaphora, and the like. The integrated utilization of diverse linguistic resources undoubtedly amplifies the potency of language, which constitutes the primary objective in constructing the requisite persona of a political figure. The relevance of the research is due to the importance of forming a scientific linguistic picture of the world in the Russian language lessons as a cognitive component of the students’ linguistic worldview and to the need of developing linguistic-methodological foundations to achieve this aim. The aim of the study is to identify and describe the patterns of forming the scientific linguistic world picture in the process of teaching Russian in secondary schools. Theoretical analysis of scientific literature, observation, pedagogical experiment were used as scientific methods. The scientific publications on cultural linguistics, cognitive linguistics, theory and methodology of teaching the Russian language were the research materials. The definition of the concept “scientific linguistic picture of the world” is given in relation to the tasks of teaching the Russian language. The authors revealed that the formation of the scientific linguistic picture of the world is formed through learning new words and concepts as a result of observation, analysis and interpretation of language phenomena from linguistic positions during categorization and conceptualization primarily at the lexical level. The formation of scientific linguistic world picture is based on the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired at Russian language lessons and, to a certain extent, is set in the guidelines of the textbook authors. The main didactic means of forming the scientific linguistic world picture is the scientific linguistic text. The leading method of forming the scientific linguistic world picture is cognitive linguistic tasks, including comparative ones. Prospects for further study of the problem lie in developing a methodology for forming a scientific linguistic world picture at Russian language lessons on the basis of various sections of linguistics.

Giulio Bertoni and neolinguistics in the Enciclopedia Italiana This essay studies Giulio Bertoni’s collaboration on the first edition of the Enciclopedia Italiana (1929-1937). As early as 1925, Giovanni Gentile called Bertoni to direct the Linguistics section, for which the scholar prepared the lemmary and drew up an initial list of collaborators. Through the analysis of Bertoni’s most significant articles, this essay highlights the neolinguistic perspective characterising his management of the section. His encyclopaedic articles become an opportunity to reflect above all upon the debts of neolinguistics towards the 19th-century linguistic debate, and in particular towards authors such as Humboldt, Schuchardt and Gilliéron. At the same time, this essay examines the ties of neolinguistics with Italian philosophical idealism and attempts to draw a balance on the weight that the ideas of Croce and then of Gentile had on Bertoni’s linguistic theory.

The article discusses the role of linguistic annotation in corpus linguistics as opposed to annotation in natural language processing. In corpus linguistics, annotation is an integral part of the process of linguistic interpretation and description of the data. Tagging and parsing are discussed as the automatic counterparts of, respectively, the paradigmatic and the syntagmatic description of corpus data. The requirements for a corpus linguistic annotation system are considered. An account is given of the TOSCA analysis system as representative of such an annotation system. Performance results of the system are given, and an evaluation is made.

The article examines the issue of changing of scientific paradigms and strategies of analysis, the formation of new research areas in modern times. Current statements of Western epistemology regarding the transformation of the scientific worldview from traditional spheres of knowledge to functional, communicative, syncretic, typical for the information age are commented. The logic of Jacqueline Rus's argument according to the radical changes in modern science, commensurate with the development of humanity and societies, is clarified. The essence of intellectual processes in current linguistics is analyzed, when a strong interest in the functional capabilities of the language has been formed since the end of the 19th century, instead of the traditional attention to the system and structural description of the language. The functional resource of language is interpreted in the article as an immanent property revealed in stylistic modifications of genres and texts. At the same time, the stylistic polyphony of texts, cognition of their communicative harmony with the purpose and objectivity of communication give rise to new research directions in linguistics – media linguistics, political and business linguistics, linguistic imagelogy, etc. Linguistic imageology as a special research field of scientific interests in philology is still being formed as a systematic direction. Syncretic in essence, linguoimageology determines the main parameters of the discipline – object, subject of analysis, strategies, tactics, methods of language activity, specific methods of text analysis, etc. in discussions and ambiguous formulations. The article presents a link for the first publication in this field – "Linguistic imageology: dictionary of terms and concepts" as a model and a possible criterion for systematic linguoimageology research. The edition conceptually forms the main categories and concepts of the direction, presents scientific definitions based on the researched locus of the functional and communicative language resource of the information world correlated with other directions of humanities. Streszczenie:
With the actualization of the evaluative and emotional aspects of understanding the linguistic world’s image (LWI), the linguistic paradigm includes the concepts of ‘evaluative world’s image’, ‘axiological world’s image’, ‘cultural and axiological world’s image’, which become the components of LWI. The purpose of the article: to outline the problems of theoretical and applied principles of the ‘axiological world’s image’ concept functioning in the modern linguistics. The stated goal motivates the solution of the following tasks: 1) to determine the achievements of the studies of the axiological world’s image in the linguistics of the XXI century; 2) to systematize and generalize the usage specifics of the analyzed term in linguistics; 3) to form a terminological minimum of research on the axiological world’s image (AWI). The object of exploration is the evaluative categorization, and the subject is the axiological world’s image as a result of the evaluative categorization. The emergence of a significant number of LWI studies in the last decade is due to the popularity of anthropological linguistics and is determined by the expansion of the subject of linguistics. AWI is a fragment of the universal LWI as a result of evaluative/evaluative-emotional comprehension of the world by a specific linguistic personality and linguistic community. Linguists use the concept of AWI in: a) linguoculturology, basing on the peculiarities of the representation of concepts; b) discourse, with the actualization of structural and semantic features; c) phraseology, in order to compare the value references presented in the phraseological funds of different languages, etc. The key problems for these research areas are: a) the place and role of the AWI in the system of linguistic world’s images; b) the structural organization of the AWI; c) objective definition of the AWI components (concept/evaluation concept/value concept vs value); d) terminological base. Thus, the description of the AWI requires consideration of knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature, a set of research goals and objectives, clear visions of the structure, components and units of analysis. We see the prospect in the further solution of the outlined problems with reliance on the interpretation of the AWI in lexicographic, terminological, reference, and other types of works.

Streszczenie:
Abstract The article responds to the current variability of research into linguistic laws and the explanation of these laws. We show basic features to approach linguistic laws in the field of quantitative linguistics and research on linguistic laws outside the field of language and text. Language laws are usually explained in terms of the language system—especially as economizing—or of the information structure of the text (Piantadosi 2014). One of the hallmarks of the transmission of linguistic laws outside the realm of language and text is that they provide other kinds of explanations (Torre et al. 2019). We want to show that the problem of linguistics in the explanation of linguistic laws lies primarily in its inability to clarify the internal structure of language material, and the influence of the theory or method used for sample processing on the result of law analysis—which was formulated by Peter Grzybek (2006). We would like to show that this is the reason why linguistics avoids explanations of linguistic laws.
