Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a case study demonstrating that LEADS in a Caring Environment Capabilities Framework in Canada can assist physicians to be partners in leading health reform. Design/methodology/approach A descriptive case-based approach was followed, relying on existing documents, research papers and peer-reviewed articles, to substantiate the effect of LEADS on physician leadership in Canada. Findings The Canadian LEADS framework enables physicians to lead by providing them with access to best practices of leadership, acting as an antidote to fragmented leadership practice, setting standards for development and accountability and providing opportunities for efficient and effective system-wide leadership development and change. Research limitations/implications A formal systematic review of the literature was not conducted. Findings can only be generalized to other cases if the reader sees contextual similarities between the present study context and the other case’s context. Practical implications This case demonstrates that national leadership frameworks have a role in facilitating physician leadership. Other national jurisdictions may wish to explore the Canadian case to determine how to use a common leadership language to engage physicians in health reform. Social implications Leadership is a key component of health reform. A common language and set of standards (LEADS) that can engage physicians will benefit patients and citizens in Canada. Originality/value This national case study shows how a nationally endorsed leadership framework such as LEADS can facilitate better physician leadership for health reform.

The main goal is to reduce the time delays caused in manufacturing of hydraulic excavators which can be accomplished making and executing powerful and proficient procedures in each of its line in their business. For this purpose lean tools are used as lean focus on continuous improvement and reduction of waste. VSM is used to serve the purpose of customer by eliminating the non-value added activities and help in value creation process with minimum lead time. The study was carried out on production process of pivot pins which are used in manufacturing of excavator machines of different specifications. By fixing production schedule and using a lean tool such as VSM, lead time was reduced which in turn reduces the cost of the product.

This article presents a study on the effect of Lean practices on lead time reduction. In this study, we have proposed the consideration of human, technical and environmental factors in the study of the impact of production scheduling and SMED on manufacturing lead time. Based on the fact that scheduling and SMED go well beyond a calculation function. From our point of view, it is preferable to broaden the field of study of this impact by going beyond the fields of mathematics, operational research and artificial intelligence. In this study, we propose to start from the idea that there are other factors that can influence the expected results, namely human, technical and environmental factors. To achieve this, we went through a literature review and then tried to validate our hypotheses through a quantitative study.

Perkembangan teknologi dan globalisasi meningkatkan persaingan pada industri manufaktur. Agar dapat bertahan dalam persaingan bisnis, perusahaan manufaktur harus memenuhi permintaan dan memuaskan pelanggan dengan meningkatkan produktivitas dan efisiensi. Produktivitas dan efisiensi dapat ditingkatkan dengan mengurangi lead time. Lean manufacturing telah terbukti dapat meningkatkan produktivitas dan efisiensi dengan mengurangi lead time dari proses produksi. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meluaskan pemahaman tentang bagaimana lean manufacturing dapat mengurangi lead time dan memahami tantangan yang mungkin muncul. Lead time dari proses produksi dapat dikurangi dengan menggunakan bantuan pendekatan diagram SIPOC, peta aliran proses, penghitungan takt time, model evaluasi pemborosan, dan kuesioner evaluasi pemborosan. Namun, penerapan lean manufacturing untuk mengurangi lead time akan menjadi tidak efektif apabila perusahaan tidak siap dalam hal pengelolaan manajemen sumber daya, manejemen manusia, dan standardisasi.

Children differ from adults in the relative importance of lead sources and pathways, lead metabolism, and the toxicities expressed. The central nervous system effects of lead on children seem not to be reversible. Periods of enhanced vulnerability within childhood have not consistently been identified. The period of greatest vulnerability might be endpoint specific, perhaps accounting for the failure to identify a coherent “behavioral signature” for lead toxicity. The bases for the substantial individual variability in vulnerability to lead are uncertain, although they might include genetic polymorphisms and contextual factors. The current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention screening guideline of 10 μg/dL is a risk management tool and should not be interpreted as a threshold for toxicity. No threshold has been identified, and some data are consistent with effects well below 10. Historically, most studies have concentrated on neurocognitive effects of lead, but higher exposures have recently been associated with morbidities such as antisocial behavior and delinquency. Studies of lead toxicity in experimental animal models are critical to the interpretation of nonexperimental human studies, particularly in addressing the likelihood that associations observed in the latter studies can be attributed to residual confounding. Animal models are also helpful in investigating the behavioral and neurobiological mechanisms of the functional deficits observed in lead-exposed humans. Studies of adults who have been exposed to lead are of limited use in understanding childhood lead toxicity because developmental and acquired lead exposure differ in terms of the maturity of the organs affected, the presumed mechanisms of toxicity, and the forms in which toxicities are expressed.
