Streszczenie:
The method for Doppler diagnostics of laser evaporation of biological tissues based on autodyne detection (reception on the laser resonator) of backscattered radiation has been developed. In this method, a laser is simultaneously used both as a source of the destructive action of radiation on biotissues and as a sensor of the backscattered diagnostic signal. This review study discusses the possibilities of Doppler diagnostics in relation to the problems of investigating the processes of laser evaporation of biological tissues in real time and laser surgery. This approach can be used to create an optical-information feedback channel in automated and robotic surgical systems based on pulse-periodic pumped single-mode CO2 lasers. Laser surgical systems with such operational feedback can be used in the development of new approaches to precision low-traumatic and organ-save laser operations.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Strong field QED is an active research frontier. The investigation of fundamental phenomena such as pair creation, photon-photon and photon-electron interactions in the nonlinear QED regime are a formidable challenge both experimentally and theoretically. Several experiments around the world are being planned or in preparation to probe this strong field regime. LUXE (Laser Und XFEL Experiment) is an experimental platform which envisages the collision of the high quality 16.5 GeV electron beam from the European XFEL accelerator with a 100 TW class high power laser. One of the unique features of LUXE is to measure the key observables such as pair rates (e + e −) with unprecedented accuracy in the characterization of both beams together with ample statistics. The state-of-art detector technologies for high energy particle/photon detection enable percent level precision. The state-of-art high power lasers offer high quality laser beams, however, the residual shot-to-shot fluctuations coupled with the large nonlinearity of the processes under investigation form a particular challenge. An uncertainty of 5% on the absolute laser intensity already leads to a very large ( about 40%) uncertainty in the pair rate. Hence it becomes essential to control the laser parameters precisely. To mitigate this issue a full suite of laser diagnostics is being currently developed at the JETI 40 laser in Jena with the aim of tagging the shot intensity to < 1%. In this presentation, details of the laser and the diagnostics suit for the single shot tagging of all the laser parameters will be presented. Moreover, results from an ongoing campaign to properly relay image the beam without significant distortion of the laser beam parameters for post-diagnosis will be discussed.

The applications of femtosecond lasers to the diagnostics of combustion and flow field have recently attracted increasing interest. Many novel spectroscopic methods have been developed in obtaining non-intrusive measurements of temperature, velocity, and species concentrations with unprecedented possibilities. In this paper, several applications of femtosecond-laser-based incoherent techniques in the field of combustion diagnostics were reviewed, including two-photon femtosecond laser-induced fluorescence (fs-TPLIF), femtosecond laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (fs-LIBS), filament-induced nonlinear spectroscopy (FINS), femtosecond laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (FLIPS), femtosecond laser electronic excitation tagging velocimetry (FLEET), femtosecond laser-induced cyano chemiluminescence (FLICC), and filamentary anemometry using femtosecond laser-extended electric discharge (FALED). Furthermore, prospects of the femtosecond-laser-based combustion diagnostic techniques in the future were analyzed and discussed to provide a reference for the relevant researchers.

A CW-laser radar system developed for combustion diagnostics is described. The system is based on triangulation to attain range information. A portable system has been constructed and here we show some result from measurements in various flames, for example Rayleigh scattering thermometry and monitoring of particle distributions with high temporal and spatial resolution. The concept can equally well be based on pulsed lasers, allowing suppression of background emission through gated detection.

Streszczenie:
Gaining information of species, temperature, and velocity distributions in turbulent combustion and high-speed reactive flows is challenging, particularly for conducting measurements without influencing the experimental object itself. The use of optical and spectroscopic techniques, and in particular laser-based diagnostics, has shown outstanding abilities for performing non-intrusive in situ diagnostics. The development of instrumentation, such as robust lasers with high pulse energy, ultra-short pulse duration, and high repetition rate along with digitized cameras exhibiting high sensitivity, large dynamic range, and frame rates on the order of MHz, has opened up for temporally and spatially resolved volumetric measurements of extreme dynamics and complexities. The aim of this article is to present selected important laser-based techniques for gas-phase diagnostics focusing on their applications in combustion and aerospace engineering. Applicable laser-based techniques for investigations of turbulent flows and combustion such as planar laser-induced fluorescence, Raman and Rayleigh scattering, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering, laser-induced grating scattering, particle image velocimetry, laser Doppler anemometry, and tomographic imaging are reviewed and described with some background physics. In addition, demands on instrumentation are further discussed to give insight in the possibilities that are offered by laser flow diagnostics.

Femtosecond lasers have been used in combustion diagnostics. Based on the characteristics of femtosecond laser filamentation, many diagnostic techniques have been developed. Here, we propose a method, based on femtosecond laser filamentation, for equivalence ratio measurements in CH4/air gases. By measuring the spatially resolved spectra of the femtosecond laser-induced filament, we found that the variation of the equivalence ratio in the flow field would affect the spatial distribution of the emission intensity of femtosecond laser-induced filament. On this basis, the equivalence ratio was calibrated by using the relative spatial positions of N2 (337 nm) and C2 (516.5 nm) signals in the filament. This method overcomes the interference of local air disturbance, having lower measurement uncertainty.

AbstractIn order to achieve a nickel-like X ray laser scheme we need a tool to determine the parameters which characterise the high-Z plasma. The aim of this work is to study gold laser plasmas and to compare experimental results to a collisional-radiative model which describes nickel-like ions. The electronic temperature and density are measured by the emission of an aluminium tracer. They are compared to the predictions of the nickel-like model for pure gold. The results show that the density and temperature can be estimated in a pure gold plasma.

Based on optical diagnostics, the true process on mixing, combustion, and emissions can be seen directly. In this paper, the mixing process by port-injection and direct-injection are reviewed firstly. Then, the combustion chemical reaction mechanism is reviewed based on chemiluminescence, natural-luminosity, and laser diagnostics. After, the evolution of pollutant emissions measured by different laser diagnostic methods is reviewed and the measured species including NO, soot, UHC, and CO. Finally, a summary and the future directions on HCCI and LTC used optical diagnostics are presented.

Diagnostics of the plasma electron component by the method of Thomson scattering Te(R,t) of laser radiation makes it possible to reliably measure the spatial distributions of the electron temperature and density. One of the obstacles to the implementation of TS diagnostics in thermonuclear reactors is the distortion of the spectral characteristics of the optical system due to radiation-induced absorption and contamination of optical elements with erosion products of the first wall. As a consequence, the reliability of measurements by the TS method will decrease over time. The paper describes the method of multi-laser Thomson scattering, which will solve this problem. The results of the first experiments on the Globus-M2 tokamak are also presented. Keywords: plasma diagnostic, tokamak, thomson scattering, laser diagnostic, spectroscopy.

Tunable excimer laser beams are increasingly used for imaging of combustion and/or flow systems. We (1) describe the need to use known polarization phenomena in interpreting diagnostics based on Rayleigh scattering (RS); (2) present relative RS cross sections for some important species at the most relevant wavelengths, 193 and 248 nm; and (3) measure the degree of linear polarization and the locking efficiency of the excimer beam, which are important diagnostic parameters that are otherwise difficult to obtain. Laser sheets, whose direction of linear polarization are adjustable, pass through gases. The Rayleigh light goes into intensified charge-coupled dervice (CCD) cameras. We report RS cross sections, normalized to those for N2, at 193 nm for H2, O2, H2O, CO2, and CH4, and at 248 nm for Ar, H2, O2, H2O, CO2, and CH4. Even when these normalized RS cross sections are used, the diagnostics can be very sensitive to the laser beam's polarization state. For example, for CO2, the normalized cross section changes by a factor of 4 with polarization. This usually unwanted sensitivity is greatest when an unmodified tunable excimer laser is used. The degree of polarization of the lasers, as well as their locking efficiency, is derived via RS from the spherical molecules Ar and CH4.

The structure of the wakefield is studied in a gas filled capillary under conditions of a quasi-monomode laser pulse propagation in a capillary tube. Self-consistent numerical simulations show that in the central bulk part of a plasma where the laser intensity exceeds the ionization threshold, the wakefield structure is similar to that of an infinite homogeneous plasma. The efficient generation of a regular wakefield over long distances suitable for the laser wakefield accelerators is shown. The modification of the spectrum of a frequency doubled probe pulse traveling in a plasma wave created in the wake of a pump pulse guided inside a capillary tube is analyzed for the cases of narrow or broad chirped probe spectra. It is shown that in both cases the measurement of the spectrum can be used as a diagnostic for the amplitude of the plasma wave. The results of full scale numerical modeling confirm the developed analytical theory of wakefield diagnostics.

Streszczenie:
The history of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and transient plasmas generated by laser ablation is intertwined with the development of various techniques for its fundamental understanding. Some diagnostic tools have been developed to better suit the rapid transient nature of the plasma (space and time dependence of all parameters, fast decay and complex chemistry inside the plasma), whereas others have been adapted from basic plasma physics studies. Langmuir probe method has been used as a real-time in situ diagnostic tool for laser ablation and later for PLD. It remains a useful tool for the PLD community arsenal, which can easily be adapted to the development of new lasers and ablation regimes and new deposition configuration, being one of the most versatile techniques for plasma diagnostics. It is the cornerstone on which charge particles are analyzed and has led to several important discoveries, such as multiple peak distribution, selective acceleration during expansion, plume splitting, plasma turbulences and fluctuations. However, because the Langmuir probe theory adaptation from classical plasma physics is not straightforward, it might lead to misinterpretation and often incorrect analysis of data. This review analyzes the limits and understanding of the technique as a foundation for attaining its full potential, which can impact the way PLD is used. This is especially useful for the pressing need of real-time, in-situ diagnostics and feedback loops for systematic semi-industrial implementation of the PLD technique.

Streszczenie:
Tokamak diagnostic window glass is an indispensable optical medium in fusion research. The transmittance of the device affects the optical performance and accuracy of the diagnostic system. Especially, the window glass serves as the entrance of the light source while performing the sealing function for the active diagnosis method represented by Thomson scattering diagnostics. In this work, we studied the influence of the laser irradiation and tokamak discharge on the EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) Thomson scattering diagnostic borosilicate glass window. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman scattering, we found that carbon-based impurities in the device aggravated the film damage due to laser irradiation, reducing the performance of the coating of the glass. Besides, the laser and the various rays of tokamak discharge generated many point defects in the glass, increasing the light absorption of the glass. These two factors caused the glass transmittance to drop significantly (from 99.99% to 77.62%). In addition, the long-term laser irradiation primarily reduced the transmittance, while environmental rays had a minor impact on the same. This work provides valuable insights into the selection and effective use of glass in optics-based diagnostics.

Streszczenie:
Use of laser radiation is especially important in modern clinical practice when it is required to carry out treatment and assessment of its efficiency on the modern principles of «diagnostics at the place of treatment» that objectively has to provide both medical, and diagnostic use of the laser radiation influencing to a biological object. It's necessary for the purpose of identification of positive (negative) physiological and clinical effects, ensuring timely correction of negative effects of laser radiation on a live organism or lack of those. It determines the need and validity of consideration of the all-biological concept of interaction of laser radiation with a biological object as medical-diagnostic. Both primary and secondary effects, and the functional changes induced by them and pathological process can be registered with modern technical means and used for the porpose of optometry of the flow and evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment using laser radiation and laser medical equipment and medical technology. The offered hardware programm complex raman-fluorescent diagnostics will technically and technologically allow high degree ofsensitivity, objectively and authentically provide the most important stage of inspection - diagnosis of a disease, monitoring of his current and process of rehabilitation in general.
