Pełny tekst źródłaThe methodologies used to teach foreign languages and the materials they promote have largely varied over time. The present work specifically adresses the question of the place of literary texts as pedagogical materials in foreign languages teaching. Originally literary texts were nearly the only materials available for this teaching. Then various societal and scientific evolutions brought them to almost completely disappear from methodologies for foreign languages teaching. For some time these literary texts reappear quite widely. Our question is whether this type of pedagogical material is usable in foreign language classroom and what is the relevance of this usage. After reviewing the different arguments of the debate and take into account some data from the field through questionnaires survey, we ackowledge the numerous advantages of literary texts as pedagogical materials, provided an appropriate use. We specifically think that they present a perfect document to implement the intercultural approach that is well accepted today. We take teaching of Arabic as a foreing language as an exemple to demonstrate how, in our opinion, literary texts could be used in an intercultural approach

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study analyses the pidgin spoken by the Sinhalese female domestic workers in Lebanon, whereof it derives certain hypotheses regarding the determining factors in the process through which contact languages are formed. The first chapter presents the sociological and the linguistic context of this contact between a group of Sinhala speaking female domestic workers and Lebanese Arabic speaking employers, as well as the “corpus” on which the study is based. The second chapter sketches a description of the two languages that are in contact, Lebanese Arabic and spoken Sinhalese, on both the phonological and morphosyntactical levels. The third chapter described first (chapter III. A) the characteristic features of the pidgin. The main phonological characteristics are listed. The lexical and in morphosyntactical structures present the most peculiar aspects of this of this pidgin: in parallel to the classic mechanism of interference from the substrate, a phenomenon that we called “mimetism” commands the formation of the pidgin. This “mimetism” consists in reproducing the most frequently heard fragments of the lexifying language, assimilating their inflexional endings, deprived of their significance, as an integral part of the fragment. Finally, we tried (chapter III. B) to situate the Arabic Pidgin of the Sinhalese domestic workers on the continuum of contact languages as a special case where we can observe the withdrawal of the norm in a contact where only one substrate is implied. A thematical bibliography is proposed. Some extracts of the corpus are presented in annex with a detailed study. A CD-Rom is also included in the thesis

Pełny tekst źródłaWe have tried in our own way to see if the utilization of a sociolinguistic approach and its application in both Arab and Berber domains could be prolific or not. That’s why, we had to gather a corpus of 46 points of inquiries distributed in the north centre and the oriental region of morocco. Our thesis is divided to three major parts : the first part is devoted to a theoric study of sociolinguistic and dialectology : their appearance, schools and their evolutions. . . We have devoted a whole chapter to the Arabic dialectology in morocco. In the second part, we have carried out a phonologic and phonetic analysis of the vocalic and consonantic system of the regional Moroccan Arabic and Berber. We then have insisted on the inter and intra-dialectal variations and the contact between the Moroccan Arabic and Berber. With the help of the questionnaire we have worked out some linguistic maps which illustrate the phonetic and phonologic variations which exist from a region to another. In the third part, we have analyzed the whole of informants speeches according to same social parameters such as : age, sex, having got a school attendance or not. (240 variables had been treated). It has then become apparent that men and women, young and old informants, do not adopt the same language in their speech. Finally, we have presented an individual analysis of each informant (46 informants)

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis deals with the clause structure and the syntax of negation in standard and moroccan arabic. The analysis of negation goes through a correct understanding of the clause structure, which is itself partly dependent on the morphology-syntax connection. The morphology-syntax connection is analysed in the first chapter, based on n. Chomsky's (1965 and 1992) and m. Halle and a. Marantz's (1992) theories. For the specific case of standard arabic, the following conclusions are proposed in the thesis :. Every category whose morphological head is a suffix spelled out as a combinaison of (person-number)features is verbal. . Every category whose morphological head is a suffix spelled out as a combinaison of (number-case) features is nominal. . The perfective and imperfective verbs in standard arabic are therefore morphologically and categorially different : the perfective verb is a verbal category. The imperfective verb is a nominal category. The clause structure of standard arabic is delt with in the second chapter. The perfective verb is analysed as a verbal predicate whose extended projection is persp. The imperfective verb is treated as a participial category and is analysed syntactically as a complex dp projection, which combines in one functional structure a nominalized verb and an extended dp projection. The syntax of negation in standard arabic and moroccan arabic is treated in the third chapter. In standard arabic, the clause structure of a negative sentence contains two tense categories, t1 and t2. T2 is functionally related to neg, and t1 is lexically related to v. Neg in standard arabic selects a null tense which has no morphological content. In moroccan arabic, neg selects a morphological tense, and the tense category in the negative sentence is lexically related to the verb
