Streszczenie:
Background: Normal labor and childbirth is fraught with complexities. In the modern times the child birth has proven to be more challenging than ever. Partogram has proven to be a simple and useful tool in monitoring normal labor. The objective of this endeavor was to site our experiences in using partogram for ‘plotting’ labors, to assess its utility, limitations and cite controversies. Methods: Authors analyzed progress of labor plotted on partograms in parturient women to see whether their labor patterns conform to the standard partogram, and can logical conclusions be drawn from their use to decide partogram’s utility and applicability. Results: The use of partogram was not universal and its charting inadequate due to lack of motivation on part of labor room residents, busy labor rooms. When plotted meticulously they showed a wide variation, and many women did not conform to the rates of dilatation of the graph. The use of partogram did not alter the rate of cesarean section for non-progressive labors with use and non-use of partogram. Conclusions: Philpott’s partogram is a very visual and useful tool to monitor labours and detect labour abnormalities timely. Although it has served as a labour management tool across the labour rooms its use is not universal. There is a plethora of conflicting opinions regarding its utility in modern obstetrics today, ranging from a complete faith in the tool to finding it obsolete and in need of a revision to calling it a medicalization of a natural process.

Survey data referring to characteristics of work that is going through flexibilisation process are analyzed in the paper. These are part-time jobs temporary and occasional jobs. Polarization of labor force as a consequence of education ("self-programming" and "generic" labor force), negotiation power of labor unions, and capacities of labor force in an informatics society are also researched. All these characteristics are not present in Croatian society at the same level, they do not equally affect employed and unemployed population (taking in consideration that borders between employed and unemployed are not clear), and are not present by the same degree in different types of settlements (there is a difference between cities and villages, and also between Zagreb and all other settlements). Negotiation power of labor unions is very much brought into question.

The Pain is a natural process of labor, but if not handled properly, it will cause another problem, namely increasing anxiety in the labour process. Nowadays many methods are offered to reduce pain in labor, both pharmacological (using drugs) and non pharmacological methods. If possible the choice of non-pharmacologic therapy for the management of pain in pregnancy and labor should be considered before using analgesic drugs. One of an effective non-pharmacological method to reduce pain is with massage Counter Pressure. Article searching conducted in some databases: Google Scholar, Proquest and Science Direct. Keyword used were “Counter Pressure”, “pain”, Labour”and finally got 9 articles matched. Counter Pressure could be categorized as a safe and effective intervention to reduce labor pain at first phase

Streszczenie:
The purpose of this study is to analyze the reason and process of labor policy changes in Korea. For this purpose, I analyzed three cases which were made respectively in 1980, 1987, and 1997. An analytical tool for policy change process is basically modified from the view point of policy making process theory, adaptable to the Korean situation. In the authoritative government period, political factors were most influential to changes in the labor policy. But through the process of democratization, socio-economic factors are more influential on the change of labor-management relations acts than that of others. Besides, the changes in the policy making process and the policy contents are mainly affected by the power relations among labor-management-government. Also, the government took the initiative in the process of labor policy making. Accordingly, political factors were most influential on the agenda-setting phase of labor policy changes. But because of the democratization of society and the growth of the private sector, the role of government is increasingly restricted. As a result, the three participants of the labor policy change are now interacting strategically. Therefore, Policy change is mainly determined by the power balance among labor-management-government relations. Korean labor-management relations acts are generally outlined by the macro-factors such as political, economic and social factors. The revision of labor-management relations acts are less affected by the characteristics of the policy making system. The revision of individual labor-management relations acts are more affected by the economic factors, while that of the collective labor-management relations acts are more affected by political factors.

Labor pain (LP) is unbearable and a major source of anxiety and stress. Painful uterine contractions cause hyperventilation in the mother, and because of augmented catecholamine concentration, both the mother and her fetus will be hypoxic. Effective analgesia provides protection from difficulties and ensures good results in both the mother and fetus. Hence, the control of pain should form an integral part of labor management at any level. This brief review aims to identify LP and its effects on fetus and mother, stages of delivery and labor process, and components of LP.

Background: Controlling the process of childbirth has disabled the parturient to embrace the most spontaneous position of delivery but constricting her to assume a recumbent position. Objective of this study was to study if alternating comfortable maternal positioning i.e., recumbent and alternative position have any influence in the process of labor, type of delivery, neonatal well-being.Methods: Study conducted an observation study on term pregnant women. Study inclusion criteria included all term pregnant women. Exclusion criteria included multiple pregnancies, preterm patient, severe pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia, preterm premature rupture of membranes, sever intrauterine growth restricted fetus. The measured date were maternal general characteristics, duration of labor process, type of delivery and neonatal outcome. Patients were divided into two groups. Group A - if they spent more than 50% in a recumbent position and Group B - any other alternating position. Results: A total 250 women were equally included in this study. The demographic characteristics were matched in both groups and found no significant difference. In the process of labor, Group B had a difference of 1 hours as compared to Group A and the rate of cervical dilation was also faster in Group B. Both of these variables were found to be statistically significant. However, there were no significant difference in the terms of type of delivery and neonatal outcome. Conclusions: The ancient practice of recumbent position during labor is to be discarded as alternating maternal position during the process of labor may a positive influence on the total duration labor. However even though it may or may not have an influence on the other outcome such as route of delivery and neonatal outcome, it is best to encourage women to move and deliver in the most comfortable position.

The objective: is to analyze the frequency of gestational complications and labor abnormalities in pregnant women with different types of autonomic regulation disorders. Materials and methods. 129 women were examined. The type of autonomic regulation was determined by recording the time and spectral parameters of heart rate variability by computer cardiointervalography with use of CardioLab Bebicard diagnostic system. The main group consisted of 66 pregnant women with established autonomic regulation disorders. 63 patients with a normal autonomic state, a balanced level of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity formed a control group. To assess the status of the mother-placenta-fetus, an ultrasound examination with doplerometry was performed. Results. A significant increase of the central regulatory activity in pregnant women with autonomic dysfunction was established. The cardiointervalography indicate a balanced activity of the autonomic nervous system in the control group. The gestational complications were significantly more frequent in women of the main group in the context of detected autonomic dysfunction than in the control group. Labor anomalies were more common in pregnant women of the main group. Women with high parasympathetic astivity noted an increased frequency of labor dystocia. In patients with a superiority of sympathetic and humoral regulation, an increased frequency of labour activity weakness was observed. The fast deliveries often determined in pregnant women with decreased activity of both departments of autonomic nervous system. The incidence of urgent caesarian deliveries was significantly higher in the main group, including due to the ineffectiveness of the medical correction of labor abnormalities. Conclusions. The cardiointervalography is informative for the diagnosis of autonomous regulation and adaptive disorders, which may be the prerequisites for the gestational complications and labor abnormalities development. Using the heart rate variability analys is in pregnant women will improve the early prediction of gestational pathology and pathological birth process, reduce the risk of obstetric and perinatal complications. In the context of globalization and economic integration, labor mobility in general, international labor migration and export in particular are increasingly playing an important role in reshaping the future of the world’s economic geography. This study is conducted to provide insights into employment, costs and incomes of export labors in Yen Khe, Thanh Ba district, Phu Tho province. In-depth interviews and questionnaire surveys were applied to collect primary data on employment, costs and incomes of export labors, related issues and consequences. These were also supplemented by the secondary data collected from different sources during the study process. The study found that labor export not only helps to create jobs, reduce unemployment and underemployment, but also to diversify jobs for workers, contributing to the restructure of the local economy. Remittances from export labors contribute directly to the increase of individual workers and their families’ incomes, transforming the income structure in the way that is less dependent on local livelihood capitals and local livelihood strategies. However, labor export has also posed issues and consequences for export labors and their families. Notably, the status of illegal labor abroad, investment capital for labor export and related debt, services for labor export, voluntary unemployment, family conflicts, income inequality caused by remittances.

The accurate measurement of labor productivity data can mean the difference between the success and failure of a building construction project. Due to the sheer diversity and complexity of international building construction practices, minimal research has been performed on comparative labor productivity between countries. In this paper, the authors present a research project that was conducted by comparing the Chinese labor productivity with the U.S. labor productivity in building construction projects. The labor productivity data were collected from different jobsites in the U.S. and China by using a time-study method with established data collection procedures. Furthermore, work sampling in the HVAC system work category was used as a method to gather information about the amount of labor productive and nonproductive work hours spent on construction activities. It is certain that there are many factors affecting productivity in the building construction process. With the lack of timely and effective project quality supervision, construction quality cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, various statistical analysis methods were applied to analyze and compare the collected productivity data from both countries. Findings of this productivity comparison can provide industry practitioners the advancement of knowledge in the Chinese building construction industry and it can support benchmarking and continuous improvement of productivity with a greater efficiency in both the US and Chinese building construction markets.

The Wage Setting Process In this paper I will defend a conception of fairness in labor markets. I will argue that we should take a procedural approach to the evaluation of fairness in markets. The procedural approach defended here goes beyond the traditional procedural view that requires only the absence of force and fraud. But it avoids the pitfalls of the other classical conception of fairness in the market: the idea of a just wage or just price. Fairness in markets is analogous to fairness in the democratic process. I will start with a discussion and critique of Joseph Heath’s stimulating discussion of fairness in labor markets. Though I agree in part with his assessment of the just wage tradition, I will argue that there is room for thinking about fairness in markets. I will then lay out a conception of fairness that is based on the analogy with democracy. The procedural idea of equal power can be given an interpretation both in perfectly competitive markets and in imperfectly competitive markets. I will show how this approach has implications for conceiving of how firms ought to be organized and for defining a fair process of wage setting in the essentially highly imperfect conditions of the labor market.

Streszczenie:
This article draws on a body of research conducted by the author over the past ten years on the social organization of nursing work. It explores questions surrounding nurses' contemporary labor process control and its meaning for nurses' professionalization and proletarianization. Both are dynamic processes, changing as public administration of the Canadian health care system changes and as nurses are successful in winning more complete self-regulation. Nurses are currently being articulated more and more securely to dominant ideas of public sector management through textually mediated technologies. Nurses find new upwardly mobile careers and challenging, responsible, and more respected work. However, as the generation of objective information for professional accountability, cost-accounting, and managerial decision-making becomes unified in computerized patient information systems, producing and using such information becomes a central and determining core of everyday nursing work. It organizes nurses into a “managed” practice of patient care, contradictory for them in many ways. Outstanding among these contradictions is a new professionalized standpoint of cost-efficiency that subordinates nurses' traditional interests and grounding of their work in the standpoint of care.
