Streszczenie:
Abstract: This essay examines the central role of racial whiteness in the self-construction and widespread reception of HBO’s popular series, Succession , as King Lear ’s twenty-first-century heir. Drawing on Christina Wald’s analysis of Succession as “serial Shakespeare,” conversations about the show in digital culture, and work in critical whiteness studies including several recent discussions of race in King Lear , I trace Succession ’s representation of the four Roy children’s battle for control of their father’s global media empire to the racialized portrayal of key characters in Shakespeare’s arguably grimmest tragedy. My focus is the Roy empire’s heir apparent, Kendall Roy, and his affinities with Edgar, Goneril, Cordelia, and Lear himself as figures of early modern racial ideologies. Kendall’s association with these characters in King Lear not only sheds light on the roles of race and gender in HBO’s flagrantly white drama, but also exemplifies what Arthur L. Little, Jr. describes as Shakespeare’s underappreciated but “prodigious contribution” to the making of white people. Succession ’s repeated exposures of the Roy siblings’ toxic, privileged whiteness, along with Kendall’s repeated, failed efforts to be crowned head of his father’s company, resonate with King Lear ’s oft-discussed emphasis on “nothing,” as well as its ambivalence about the future of a unified white nation. What Succession finally reveals about King Lear is a paradox fundamental to both dramas’ constructions of racial whiteness: debasement only adds to its power.

AbstractAn interesting, yet unknown episode concerning the effective permeation of the scientific revolution in eighteenth-century Kingdom of Naples (and Italy more generally) is recounted. The intriguing story of James Watt’s steam engine, prepared to serve a Royal Estate of the King of Naples in Carditello, reveals a fascinating piece of the history of that kingdom, as well as an unknown step in the history of Watt’s steam engine, whose final entrepreneurial success for the celebrated Boulton & Watt company was a direct consequence. This story reveals that, contrary to what claimed in the literature, the first introduction in Italy of the most important technological innovation of the eighteenth century did not take place with the construction of the first steamship of the Mediterranean Sea, but rather thirty years before that, thanks to the incomparable work of Giuseppe Saverio Poli, a leading scholar and an influential figure in the Kingdom of Naples. The tragic epilogue of Poli’s engine accounts for its vanishing from historical memory.

Purpose Scientific knowledge is usually regarded as the basis for the management of natural environment and wildlife in ecotourism. However, recently, social construction approaches challenge the domination of natural science. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the social construction paradigm in ecotourism management, through conducting a content analysis of social media comments on an accident caused by a monkey in a Chinese ecotourism area. The results show that people commented on the accident from five aspects. First, the public expressed their compassion and mourning for the deceased. Second, people thought that the death was casual and absurd, yet life is full of uncertainty and people should cherish the present. Third, people commented much on the deceased tourist’s company, which is a famous sugar brand well entrenched in many Chinese people’s childhood memories. Fourth, people constructed the monkey as Monkey King, Golden Monkey (another famous sugar brand in China) and as a criminal. Fifth, people also gave their opinions about possible causes of the accident, namely, it was caused by “the mandate of heaven,” company competition, conspiracies or poor management. This study only seriously considers the comments about the mandate of heaven. This explanation is consistent with the Chinese traditional construction of nature as “heaven,” which is believed to dominate the natural and human worlds. Most people, including the managers, accepted the accident and did not explore further about the reasons for the accident. In this case, such a social construction of nature does not aid effective ecotourism management.

Since my column in the September 2022 JPT about the regulation of ownership and leasing of pore space, dealmaking has picked up steam, especially by Oxy. Many of the announced deals by Oxy and others are in Texas and in the Gulf Coast region. Oxy Low Carbon Ventures (OLCV) signed an agreement in October with Natural Resource Partners LP for the evaluation of a potential CO2 sequestration hub in Texas. OLCV, a subsidiary of Occidental, would gain rights to about 65,000 acres of pore space for its development, with the potential to store a minimum of 500 million metric tons of CO2. The proposed site is in proximity to industrial greenhouse-gas emitters and a prime location for Oxy’s 1PointFive’s plans to build a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) hub, possibly connected to direct air capture (DAC) facilities. Also, in October, Occidental and 1PointFive signed a lease agreement with King Ranch, a privately held agricultural production and resource management company, to support large-scale DAC projects on 106,000 acres in Kleberg County, Texas, with the potential to remove up to 30 million metric tons of CO2 per year. The pores space is estimated to store up to 3 billion metric tons of CO2. In addition to DAC emissions capture, the King Ranch acreage is located near industrial emitters in the Gulf Coast region, including Corpus Christi, where emissions can be captured, transported, and sequestered in the pore space. Each DAC plant in the site is expected to be capable of removing up to 1 million metric tons of CO2 per year, yielding a total capacity of up to 30 million metric tons per year when all facilities are operational. Carbon Engineering (CE) began front-end planning and engineering for the DAC facilities in Kleberg County in October. The first 1-megatonne facility is intended to be replicated into multimillion-tonne deployments. The design is being adapted from the first large-scale, commercial facility to use CE’s DAC technology, which is already under construction in the Texas Permian Basin and is expected to start up in 2024. Founded in the 1853, the 825,000-acre King Ranch holds an iconic legacy in Texas. Now, 170 years later, it may build upon that legacy with technological advances not foreseen in its earlier years. In another Oxy deal in 2022, this one with Weyerhaeuser Co., more than 30,000 acres of pore space will be evaluated and potentially developed for CCS in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Weyerhaeuser will continue to manage the aboveground acreage as a working forest. Also in Louisiana, Lapis Energy, a CCS developer and operator based in Dallas, completed the lease of over 14,000 acres of carbon pore space rights with a private landowner 20 miles west of New Orleans. Lapis believes the pore space in the area has the potential to store more than 500 million tonnes of industrial CO2 and has begun technical studies to progress a Class VI permit for the area. Lapis plans to be ready to begin injection by 2025. San Antonio-based Ozona CCS LLC has reached a definitive agreement in January with Texas Pacific Land Corp. to lease approximately 5,173 contiguous acres of land to drill one of the first commercial CO2 sequestration wells in the Permian Basin. The company will initially focus on the Permian Basin and the Texas Gulf Coast for CCS projects. Initial anchor customers will include natural gas processing plants and oil and gas operators in the region. The acreage has an estimated initial injection rate of up to 25,000 B/D and an estimated total storage capacity of at least 40 million metric tons of CO2. The target in-service date is in the third quarter of 2024. Rystad Energy’s Audun Martinsen, head of supply chain research, forecast a rise in low-carbon investments by $60 billion in 2023, 10% higher than 2022. Hydrogen and CCUS are expected to see the most significant annual increase, growing 149% and 136%, respectively. Total hydrogen spending will approach $7.8 billion in 2023, while CCUS investments will total about $7.4 billion. She wrote, “The new and relatively tiny market of suppliers exposed to low-carbon, well-related services is forecast to climb 33% this year, driven by geothermal drilling and CO2 injection. Despite the significant increase, investments in this market will only total about $3.7 billion.”

Streszczenie:
In March 2021, during a time of loss and longing, the theatre company, Seyyar Kumpanya, under the artistic directorship of Naz Yeni, created a digital project called ‘Migrant Shakespeare’. Seyyar Kumpanya is a collective of Turkish-speaking actors who now, for various reasons, all live and work in and around London. Their project evolved into a sequential performance of ten monologues taken from different Shakespeare plays, each spoken by ten different actors who have English as a second, sometimes third, language. The directorial decision was made to transpose Shakespeare’s characters to the day-to-day contexts that socially and politically transform and define the migrant experience: Caliban becomes a hotel cleaner, King Lear a construction worker, Hamlet a meat packer and Katerina Minola a barmaid, simultaneously subservient while also ironically sarcastic and physically strong. Thus, at one level, all the actors were performing their own migrant identity. In this article my primary aim is to analyse the digital text of the ‘Migrant Shakespeare’ project. Methodologically, I describe the ten performances and record my personal attempt to make meaning within the dialogic relationship between myself as spectator, the author and the migrant actors. Shakespeare often imagined that it is only in faraway places and in displaced realities that we discover other possibilities that exist within ourselves. His plays feature (among many instances) a penniless and homeless old man, King Lear, thrust out into the wilderness, Prospero, the displaced Duke of Milan, who is exiled to an unpopulated isolated island and Prince Hamlet, a privileged young man who is transposed to an unrecognizable world of grief and loss. The migrant is similarly decentred on a daily basis, repeatedly required to redress the balance between old and new identities while being simultaneously present in both. This article attempts to understand how the experience of contemporary migration may be explored through the similar destabilization inherent in Shakespeare’s dramaturgy. Furthermore, I argue that the craft of acting mirrors the experience of the migrant. At one level, all actors are ‘foreign’, as their profession requires them to migrate from their individual identity to that of the character they are playing. A working actor is thus always concurrently present within two selves. Consequently, they are polysemic, that is, in performance actors signify the characters they portray, while simultaneously remaining different, functioning human beings. Generally audiences may, or may not, be directed to a meta-theatrical awareness of the actor’s two identities and herein can lie much of the enjoyment and/or meaning of performance. This article concludes that, where ‘Migrant Shakespeare’ is concerned, the spectator is directorially guided to incorporate a personal recognition of the migrant identity or ‘other’ within a reading of the performance text. Audiences are confronted by a strong awareness of the polysemic body of the migrant actor embodying Shakespeare’s often decentred and destabilized characters. I suggest that this process of complex signification destabilizes the text in performance creating new readings and, consequently, suggests a new decentred understanding of the concept of contemporary ‘Britishness’.

The Act of 11 April 2003 on shaping the agricultural system introduced a number of restrictions on trading in agricultural property. As of 30 April 2016, the regulations of the Act also apply to companies undergoing a division, change of status or a merger. In this article a change of status of a company which owns agricultural real estate was analysed. For practical reasons, the most common situation of this kind is the conversion of a limited liability company into a public limited company. The analysis of this has revealed that the construction of legal regulations regulating this issue is highly imprecise. However, the biggest problem seems to be the fact that statutory objectives provided for in the Act have not been achieved. In the case of a conversion of a limited liability company into a public limited company, the shareholders of the limited liability company become shareholders of the public limited company, so from the substantive law point of view, the same entity continues to exist. Solutions of this kind do not make any legal sense and certainly do not achieve any of the objectives set out in the Act analysed.

Labor wages have a large portion (approximately 30%) of construction contract value. Therefore, company should pay attention to labor wages. Unfortunately, existing data about construction labor wages in Indonesian are only showed as daily wages (for labor) and monthly wages (for employee/permanent staff), while there’s no information about their labor burden. Therefore, objectives of this study are to identify the component and structure of construction labor burden and wages in Indonesia and also to identify all factors related. Research method used int this study are empirical and inductive methods. After all data has been collected from field survey, description of the construction labor burden and wages model was compiled into its components. Moreover, comparison analysis used to identify factors related to construction labor burden and wages. Results of data processing and analysis shows that: 1) Construction labor burden in Indonesia for both employee/permanent staff and labor commonly consist of direct and indirect payment, and conditional and lumpsum payment, but there are different distributions between each kind of labor. 2) Construction labor burden and wages in Indonesia commonly depend on company profile, project profile, and labor profile.

Purpose This paper aims to demonstrate the need for a structured business process improvement effort needed while restructuring organisational processes within a construction company. Through the longitudinal study, the study also highlights the importance of a continuous improvement initiative to sustain such an improvement effort. Design/methodology/approach The research followed an action research and the case study approach using semi-structured interviews and group workshops within the case organisation. Overall, six departments were analysed, 35 interviews with senior and middle managers were conducted, existing business process documents were studied and processes were documented. The data were compiled using a process modelling software and Business Process Markup Notation methodology. Additionally, a longitudinal analysis following the completion of process modelling exercise was carried out over a period of eight years. Findings The overall study highlights the importance of business process management (BPM) for construction organisations. The case study also demonstrated that even smaller business units and its processes affected the overall value chain in a major way and the importance to analyse the process interdependencies between organisational units. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of the research was that it is based on a single-case-study company based in the UK. More research is needed with other organisations with different work practices and culture and geographic location. Practical implications Primarily, the research outlines specific steps taken during a structured process improvement exercise in a construction company, including procedures for collecting data, developing process maps and analysis of data. The longitudinal study highlights the challenges in sustaining such an initiative. For practitioners, strengths and weaknesses of various process improvement methods and a detailed description of a BPM implementation can be used as a guideline for future projects. From a research point of view, the paper highlights the need for deeper and long-term analysis of such initiatives and the importance of immersion of researchers within the environment. Originality/value The paper provides deeper insights into the structured process improvement exercise within a construction company. Second and more importantly, the longitudinal study is one of its kind in the construction industry to shed light on the factors affecting sustainability of such initiatives.

Effective financial and cash flow management are essential elements of an effective project execution plan. For this study, five projects were being executed simultaneously by SOFTSTRUCT CONSULTANTS, a construction company based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The company has an overdraft limit of $1,200,000. They are to commence on different dates starting from September 2022 and ending at February 2026. The percentile point (PP) method was used to generate the cash flow analysis and management. It was found that the company arrived at a maximum overdraft of $1,200,000, which was less than the limit. This means the company is on the safe side to succeed with her project portfolio, and likely remain afloat to execute more projects in the future, using this kind of cash flow management technique for all her projects.

The global financial tsunami between 2008 and 2009 was the result due to the affection of the subprime mortgage Storm in 2007. Already well-established companies, products with good marketing position, luxury goods and Mega-Mansions are still be able to raise the price of goods, while others need to discount prices to keep businesses afloat. The northern part of Taiwan has the benefit of a denser population than the south and along with better and more solid marketing strategies and the ability to support the various kinds of events, prices of the real estate market up north stands in better health -This is what the south needs to learn. This thesis analyzes the real estate market based on the 2008-2009 research in rebranding and marketing strategy making. It is based on Kotler’s 「CCDVTP」model proposed in 2006 which discusses how construction companies in south build up successful brands and marketing strategy. This case study in King Town’s construction company is supported by qualitative method through in-depth interviews and secondary data analysis. AbstractWe present a new streaming algorithm to validate JSON documents against a set of constraints given as a JSON schema. Among the possible values a JSON document can hold, objects are unordered collections of key-value pairs while arrays are ordered collections of values. We prove that there always exists a visibly pushdown automaton (VPA) that accepts the same set of JSON documents as a JSON schema. Leveraging this result, our approach relies on learning a VPA for the provided schema. As the learned VPA assumes a fixed order on the key-value pairs of the objects, we abstract its transitions in a special kind of graph, and propose an efficient streaming algorithm using the VPA and its graph to decide whether a JSON document is valid for the schema. We evaluate the implementation of our algorithm on a number of random JSON documents, and compare it to the classical validation algorithm.

Streszczenie:
AbstractMore and more nowadays, the Circular Economy is at the heart of European public policies. As a result of the “Next Generation EU” Recovery Plans, a huge amount of financial resources will be available in the coming years to give shape the concept of “ecological transition". For that purpose, radical vision and operational concreteness are needed. In order to strengthen the territorial dimension of public policies aimed at ecological transition, the paper points to consider the status quo of the European territory, looking for recurring elements and differences. In this perspective, a return of “hard” urban studies, focusing on the issues of land ownership, land parcelling, infrastructural and urbanization procedures (and their relationships with the environment and the landscape) should be conducted at the European scale.A central role for the future of contemporary territories is recognized in the so-called “fringe area”, the part of the urban region where patterns of building development and unbuilt space interwave: its intermediary character, as a place between the compact city and the suburban countryside, makes this zone favourable to the collaboration between the two worlds. In addition, its easy accessibility from both the denser contexts and the outer areas makes it the perfect place to locate the equipment required to create short supply chains, so relevant for the circular economy and the ecological transition. These transition areas need to be rethought as new collective spaces of the contemporary city, areas for the proliferation of biodiversity, inhibited from settlement increase and subject to restrictions on car traffic. In them, the circular dimension of the new green economy could give shape to certain spatial conditions and new landscapes. Two main spatial models can describe this sustainable reform of the peri-urban territories. The first one assumes the figure of the “cluster”: a territorially and functionally defined region with one or more reference centres and an edge marking the discontinuity from other clusters. The second model is based on the figure of the “grid”: an unlimited mesh, which gives measure and organizes space according to a replicable and open system. This spatiality is built on a redundant and weak infrastructure, devoid of hierarchy, which can give rise to a sponge rich in pores, with neither internal nor external boundaries. The concept of the materiality also deals with the physical status of each context where the clusters of shortening flows would define local metabolisms, self-sufficient, marked by the use and recycling of what can be produced or “extracted” in the cluster itself. The closing of short supply chains for the use and recycling of materials, also with reference to the construction cycle and CDW recycling, would have direct consequences on the architectural character of the new arrangements: a kind of hyper-contextualism in which the landscape takes on grains, colours, materiality, closely linked to the local condition. Finally, a reflection on the rationales of the project is outlined. What is proposed, in fact, requires going beyond the traditional way in which the project has been conceived. In fact, these urban reconfiguration processes, structurally open to uncertainty, would take advantage of a programmatic choice of spatial incompleteness: a condition of “unfinished”, open to the accumulation over time of functions, forms, aggregations and densifications.

All are in their twenties and thirties, with the exception of David, the father of Tomas. This youth is something they often present as a virtue, making representational capital through coupling that word with others with which it is popularly associated; “dynamic,” “creative,” “innovative,” “fresh,” “original” are words that feature on their website. As a small-to-medium-size practice, MHW rarely takes on projects with budgets of less than £100,000 and is mostly focused on large domestic extensions and renovations, one-off new builds, and small public buildings. The firm’s projects involve close working relationships with individual clients, planners, builders, engineers, and other building specialists contracted as consultants when needed. Design and then construction work involves regular site visits. Involvement in these various aspects of the process of design and construction is at one level a necessity for a practice of this size. At another level they see these working practices as a virtue tying into a broader philosophy. Unlike larger practices where specialism and fragmentation are more common, the company takes pride in aiming to connect processes of design and construction, celebrates the “ownership” of projects by individual architects, and aims to keep organizational structures flat....

Abstract Fiduciaries breach their trust with unfortunate regularity. When this hap pens, equity provides a range of legal responses. Moreover, recourse may be available not only against the fiduciary himself, but against those who assisted him. On the other hand, losses are often incurred, through mistake or fraud, without the presence of any fiduciary relationship. The interesting thing is that the litigation arising out of such acts is often framed in terms of fiduciary law. The goals of this Chapter are (i) to examine why this happens; (ii) to assess the continued usefulness of this kind of reasoning; and (iii) to explore whether the law is capable of effectively assisting the victims of fraud and mistake without resort to the fictional discovery of fiduciary relationships. As a starting point, take the typical facts of Bank Tejaratv. Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (CI) Ltd.2 The plaintiff was the Iranian state bank. One of its customers, an Iranian company called Acier, had in the past imported steel into .Iran. Acier approached Tejarat to set up a letter of credit for the purchase by Acier of 4,600 tonnes of steel sheets. The letter of credit was opened by Tejarat in the amount of DM 5m, Tejarat taking 35 per cent of this amount up front from Acier. The letter was in favour of CAK (Import/Export) Ltd (‘CAK’), a Jersey company. A few weeks later, CAK sent to Tejarat’s London branch the shipping documents to show that the steel was on the way to Iran. Tejarat then authorised payment on the letter of credit, which was made to CAK via a German bank. Of course, the shipping documents were forged.

It shows that comparisons between categories of Filipino and Amerikano must be understood in relation to local hierarchies. On Siquijor, local imaginings of Amerikano lifestyles and bodies not only serve as reference points for ideals of affluence and beauty, but act as markers of prestige in competitions for status between neighbours and kin, sustaining a sense of Amerikano superordinancy. While, on Siquijor, superordinancy usually presumes neither innate nor moral superiority, there is a strong presumption specifically that the “failure” of the Philippines to achieve similar levels of affluence to the US is due to moral deficiencies of the Filipino self.

In this chapter, we deal with knowledge representation in Intelligent Educational Systems (IESs). We make an effort to define requirements for Knowledge Representation (KR) in an IES. The requirements concern all stages of an IES’s life cycle (construction, operation, and maintenance), all types of users (experts, engineers, learners) and all its modules (domain knowledge, user model, pedagogical model). We also briefly present various KR schemes, focusing on neurules, a kind of hybrid rules integrating symbolic rules and nuerocomputing. We then compare all of them as far as the specified KR requirements are concerned. It appears that various hybrid approaches to knowledge representation can satisfy the requirements in a greater degree than that of single representations. Another finding is that there is not a hybrid scheme that can satisfythe requirements of all the modules of an IES. So, multiple representations or a multi-paradigm representation environment could provide a solution to requirements satisfaction.

On another storey, robots spray the car bodies in bright colors without a single splash of paint winding up on any of the windows. Back in the twentieth century, it was customary to push factories beyond the city limits because they were too dirty to share our living environment. Today, clean, attractive, and compact factories are finding their way back. Production techniques have reached such a state of perfection that we’re eager for them to be seen. Factories and houses can once again stand side by side. A hundred kilometers away in Leipzig, BMW has also made a symbol of this kind of modern, clean manufacturing. The production line at the company’s new plant runs straight through the cafeteria. Cars float above the tables as lunch is served below. The automotive industry’s production techniques are every bit as clean nowadays as those of the firms providing the food on the workers’ plates. Cars are only one example, but they are an icon of our industry. Every last detail of their production process has indeed been finetuned. Yet the cleanness of its production is only superficial. It hasn’t resulted in the perfect car. Far from it: Motor vehicles continue to impose an ever-heavier burden on the environment. It takes more raw materials to produce one now than it did 20 years ago, and cars still use the same amount of fuel for every kilometer they travel. That simply can’t continue if we still want to visit friends on the other side of the country two decades from now. Breakthroughs are needed that will make cars more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. And the same goes for other modes of transport, such as trains, aircraft, and ships. Apart from further inventions, we’re going to need entirely new materials, construction methods, and production techniques if the boundaries are truly to shift.

The AP1000® pressurized water reactor (PWR) is the first and only Generation III+ nuclear power plant to be granted design certification by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The initial deployment of this technology has been the construction of dual AP1000 units in each of two coastal sites in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), at Sanmen (Zhejiang Province) and Haiyang (Shandong Province). The contracts for these units were framed to support the PRC’s intention to achieve self reliance in its nuclear supply infrastructure. Westinghouse is implementing its innovative supply chain strategy, “We Buy Where We Build”™, to promote the technology transfer and increasing levels of localization needed as each unit is constructed. Since the initial contract award in 2007, the Westinghouse Consortium and the purchasers, State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation of China (SNPTC), the Shandong Nuclear Power Company (SDNPC), and the Sanmen Nuclear Power Company (SMNPC) have worked in harmony to build the units using advanced modular construction techniques that reduce construction timescales and associated risks. First-of-a-kind (FOAK) plant components have been manufactured and delivered, including reactor vessels, steam generators, and other safety equipment. With construction and equipment installation in the final stages, the planning and implementation of the pre-operational testing, system turnover, and commissioning are now underway to prepare for fuel load and future commercial operation.

AREVA Solar, Inc. constructed, commissioned and operated the first-of-its-kind Once Through Solar Steam Generator (OTSG SSG), SSG4 at the Kimberlina Solar Thermal Power Station. The construction and commissioning of SSG4 was completed in September 2010, culminating in the successful execution of a series of performance tests. This was the first SSG that AREVA Solar, Inc. designed, manufactured and constructed to comply with ASME Section I, and registered with the National Board. SSG4 is the first in its class that produces high-pressure, superheated steam in a once through configuration. Some aspects of the system presented unique commissioning and operational challenges that are not commonly found in conventional fired boilers. These include: i) the use of a first-in-class model predictive control (MPC) system; ii) a steam integration system to blend steam from the once-through superheated SSG4 and the previous-generation, saturated steam SSGs; iii) a steam handling system that delivers the steam to a turbine generator or to a dump condenser; iv) precision optical tracking that is required for optimal boiler performance; v) 1310ft (400 meter) long boiler tube bundle. Unique for field erected boilers, the SSG4 tube bundle was welded at grade. After being inspected, the receiver and tube bundle support structure was placed over the bundles, secured and the entire receiver structure, with boiler tubes, was hoisted to its operating position, 60ft (18m) above grade. Following final connections of feedwater and steam piping, the boiler was inspected by Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company, which included hydrostatic test pressurization to 2002.5 psi (13.8MPa), and the stamps were applied to the boiler nameplate (see Figure 1 for a photo of the SSG4 boiler nameplate). Commissioning included standard boiler flushing and tube cleaning program and a comprehensive set of pre-operational tests. There were additional requirements that are unique to Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR) solar thermal systems such as reflector alignment and tuning. These and other commissioning activities were scheduled around a constraint unique to solar systems — the availability of sunlight. A comprehensive set of procedures was followed to enable safe and successful integration and commissioning of the model predictive control system. Upon completion of commissioning, the plant was turned over to operations for continued testing. Stable superheated steam delivery was achieved within one week of Mechanical Completion, and Acceptance Testing was completed two weeks later at levels that exceeded the guarantee. This paper will describe the details of the integration, construction and commissioning milestones, distinctive aspects of commissioning solar thermal systems, and organization of the commissioning team to achieve success.

Streszczenie:
Abstract In the past three years, several offshore platforms have commissioned sulfate removal units (SRUs) with a new, Thin-Membrane Technology which allows the highest active membrane area to be packaged into the standard spiral wound, sulfate removal element. These newly installed elements are the first of their kind to utilize the new technology and demonstrate how offshore platforms can benefit from this innovation. The spiral wound element was developed in the 1970s to package RO and NF membranes into a compact, efficient, and modular spiral element. Since that time, incremental improvements in element design and materials of construction have led to enhanced efficiencies and productivity. However, the overall element design and membrane construction have remained largely unchanged. Most notably, in recent years, efforts to fit more material into the present spiral element configuration reached an optimal plateau. Advances in automated manufacturing resulted in either increasing the membrane surface area or increasing the thickness of the feed/brine spacer. Either enhancement could be selected depending on the quality of the feedwater or the efficiency of the pre-treatment. However, it was not possible for the designers of SRUs to capitalize on the benefits associated with both enhancements simultaneously. For this reason, when treating high quality feedwater, SRU designers prefer to use spiral elements that contain higher surface area to reduce capital cost, footprint, and weight. When treating high fouling feedwater with minimal pretreatment, SRU designers use elements with the thicker feed/brine spacer to reduce differential pressure losses, minimize fouling and improve cleaning effectiveness. Designers selecting elements with thicker spacer forfeit the benefits associated with higher area elements while designers who select elements with higher area forfeit the benefits of the thicker spacer. But in recent years, thanks to innovations in material science, a new generation of sulfate removal elements are now being manufactured and deployed in full scale systems on offshore platforms. These new elements offer both a larger surface area and a thicker feed/brine spacer. This paper will detail the innovation in the construction of the new membrane material and compare its effects on element performance with the previous generation membranes. The paper will analyze the operation of these new elements in SRUs running on offshore platforms for as much as one year. Based on the operation of these new elements, the footprint, weight, and capital cost benefits of the new membrane relative to current membranes will be analyzed.

The beamline transports an extremely bright electron beam at energy up to 20 MeV and peak currents up to 300 A in 10-ps pulses. With use of an electromagnet microwiggler and short optical resonator, the Advanced FEL will be the first of its kind small enough to be mounted on an optical table and yet capable of providing high-power optical output spanning the near-IR and visible regions. To obtain good photocathode lifetimes and high peak surface fields, the linac has been conditioned with an rf glow discharge, high-temperature bakes, and high-power rf conditioning. Design knowledge is distributed unevenly across organizational boundaries within large enterprises. Within this context, there are two main barriers to quick and reliable knowledge flow. The first is the organizational boundaries which will influence the efficiency of new design knowledge flow from when and where it is located to when and where it is need for application. The second is that one organization or sub-company of the same large enterprise often knows little about what kind of design knowledge or capability another one has. These barriers will prevent the flow of knowledge. Therefore, there is a need to develop methods and tools to improve the performance of knowledge flow within large enterprises. This paper first presents a brief introduction to the context and background information of our knowledge flow management practice in a large enterprise. Then the definition of key elements of design knowledge flow are introduced and analyzed. After that, we propose a service-based framework for the management of design knowledge flow; this framework focuses on organizing knowledge providers and developing a knowledge service platform. The proposed approach was primarily validated and verified in a large construction machinery enterprise. In addition, future work on improving the approach to knowledge flow management is also briefly discussed.

This device integrates a laser diode, photo detectors and a micro-prism into one small chip.[1] Using integrated devices of this kind, we can make small, light and stable optical heads with less material and production costs. MiniDisc (MD) systems have become popular as a novel audio system. In this system, a 64mm-diameter disc in a cartridge can record and play back 74 min. of compressed audio data or store 140 MB of user data, using magneto-optical (MO) technology. To improve the portability of this MD systems, smaller, lighter and more stable optical heads are necessary. For this reason, several kinds of integrated optical devices, such as laminated prism [2], holographic optical element (HOE) [3,4], have been reported. Abstract This work addresses the initiative to use consumer-grade Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones, as potential instruments for the evaluation and monitoring of shallow coral reefs in Colombia. This initiative started with the construction of an interdisciplinary team that includes institutions from academia, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, a marine surveying private company, and a German research center. The test was conducted inside the Marine Protected Area (MPA) of Old Providence; an island that is located at the Archipelago of San Andrs, Providencia and Santa Catalina, which includes the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve (the third largest true barrier reef in the world). Field data were acquired by using two DJI RPAS: Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic Air, and geo-referenced diving. In this work, we show the potential for using such technologies with a geometrically corrected mosaic of images of Crab Cay, a small cay located inside the MPA. This project is the first of its kind within the Seaflower Reserve and may support technology-based data collection, increasing the quality of information that can be useful to make important decisions regarding ocean space utilization. Additionally, obtained images will be shared for the benefit of local communities, other stakeholders, and visitors, in a manner that opens up science to broader society, promoting outreach activities and educational tool via photos and videos.
