Because of the role religion plays in upholding socio-political arrangements in Jordan, we argue that Jordanian Protestants, as a religious minority, can be productively understood as a religious counterpublic. Given the explicitly Islamic nature of Jordanian national identity, their unique mode of counterpublicity seeks to simultaneously maintain a distinct religious identity while also compensating for Jordanian Protestants’ deviance from the prevailing religious norms via overt displays of national loyalty. This compensatory mode of counterpublicity is visible through Jordanian Protestants’ public displays and symbols, public sermons and statements, and on social media.

A little-known part of Swedish Jewish bibliography are the many small separate booklets and addresses of homage produced by the Jewish communities in Stockholm, Norrköping, Gothenburg and Karlskrona to honor King and Country. The Jews who settled in Sweden in the 18th century received royal letters of protection. They were very eager to express their appreciation to the king. This started in 1782 with the death of the Dowager Queen, the mother of King Gustaf III, and only a month later there was a new booklet on the birth of an heir to the King and Queen. It was Gustaf III who seven years earlier, in 1775, had allowed the first Jews, Aaron Isaac, to settle in Sweden without converting to Christianity. On such occasions a special service was usually held in the synagogue, with songs and prayers composed especially for the occasion. These were oriented in separate booklets, often presented to the king in a special presentation copy. All pamphlets and booklets listed here are found in the Royal Library of Stockholm or in the Library of Uppsala University.

This paper aims to find the determinant of Thailand’s king of fruit exports based on the gravity model. Several primary econometrics methods apply to the gravity model applying to Thailand’s durian export. The result indicates that the country-pair and time-fixed effect PML with interaction regarding the landlock and time dummy variables give the most logical results. The empirical results suggest that enhancing labor productivity in durian cultivation is a strategy to increase durian cultivation and export. Durian exporters might use the lower price strategy to enhance their income. Thailand’s durian exporters should find a specific country in each income-level group where most people love durian.

The Khmer Empire maintained power and peace from Jayavarman II in the 9th century to Jayavarman VII in the 13th century. The country covered the present Cambodia, and parts of Laos, Thailand, and southern Vietnam. Their outstanding leadership resulted in the splendid Angkor civilization across the Southeast Asian mainland. They were the architects of peace, culture, religious harmony, economic growth, and sovereignty. Jayavarman II was the founding king as he established the Khmer Empire. The power was passed from the founder Jayavarman II to Jayavarman VII, the king of devotees. For the most part, power was transferred among the royals peacefully during the Khmer empire, although some inscriptions also mention conflicts over the throne. Regardless of whether the king came to the throne legally or illegally, most of them devoted their lives to building a country with development and prosperity. In addition, the Khmer Empire gained in power from one generation to another. Those kings led the Khmers to achieving a substantial empire.

Sangam literature is a time mirror that reflects life events in languages in which the heroism and generosity of four hundred kings have been described. From time immemorial, the Guru has been revered as a deity after his mother and father as the Guru's deity. The idea that only the Guru can heal the family, the student, and the country has been around. In Sanskrit literature, poets had the right to rebuke the king and to give him loving advice to make the country prosperous for the good of a king. In the late nineteenth century, poets primarily portrayed the heroism and generosity of kings through their songs. Not only male poets but also female poets excelled in this. Songs sung by individual poets All the songs in this book are sung about public justice without being sung about anyone There are hundreds of poets who mention the names of poets but also mention the names of kings.

Abstract. The spatial and temporal distributions of sea level rise present regional floods in some certain areas. The low-lying island countries are obviously the spots affected severely. Tuvalu, an atoll island country located in the south-west Pacific Ocean, is suffering the devastating effects of losing life, property, and intending migration caused by floods. They blame the regional flooding to King Tide, a term used but not clearly identified by Pacific islanders. In this study, we clarify what King Tide is first. By the tide gauge and topography data, we estimated the reasonable value of 3.2 m as the threshold of King Tide. This definition also fits to the statement by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of King Tide occurring once or twice a year. In addition, We cross validate the 19 yr data of tide gauge and satellite altimeter (1993–2012), the correlation coefficient indicates King Tide phenomenon is considerable connected to warm water mass. The 28 King Tide events revealed the fact that flooding can be referenced against spring tide levels, so can it be turned up by warm water mass. The warm water mass pushes up sea level; once spring tide, storm surge, or other climate variability overlaps it, the rising sea level might overflow and so has been called "King Tide" for the floods in Tuvalu. This study provides more understanding of the signals of King Tide and an island country case study of regional sea level rise.

ÖZMEN, Seher Selin. "THE IMPORTANCE OF MANNA COUNTRY IN FOREIGN POLITICS OF THE URARTU STATE". SOCIAL SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL 7, nr 32 (15.07.2022): 65–71. http://dx.doi.org/10.31567/ssd.654.

Streszczenie:
The Manna State was established in the south of Lake Urmia in the 9th century BC. The name of this state is mentioned in Urartian and Assyrian cuneiform sources from the 1st millennium BC. The region where the land of Manna located is particularly important as it is on trade routes when a great drought and thus a wave of migration from Central Asia began during the Iron Age. Urmia Lake Basin, which has attracted the attention of the Urartian Kingdom from the early period, is one of the regions that could not be dominated and therefore almost all Urartian kings organized expeditions. The attempt to subdue Manna increased during the reign of the Urartian King Menua and the Assyrian threat was faced during the intense campaigns during the reign of Menua’s successor, Argišti I. During the Sarduri II period, expeditions continued and tribute was taken from the Manna principalities. Manna King Iranzu, who was an Assyrian vassal, took advantage of Assyrians’ successful war against Urartu, followed a policy of centralization and created a principality system dependent on the central authority in the country. Although Manna became a powerful state around the Urmia Lake Basin during Iranzu’s reign, some rulers and princes who did not like Iranzu’s centralization policy gave Urartu the opportunity to interfere in Manna’s internal affairs. Urartian King Rusa I used the internal political crisis among the Mannas for his own purposes, provoked some principalities against the central authority, and a pro-Urartian group emerged in the country. Thus, the Lake Urmia Basin became the subject of an intense struggle for dominance between the Urartu and Assyrian States during the reign of Rusa I. With the Assyrian King Sargon II, the pressure of the Urartians in the region decreased. After the defeat of Urartian Kingdom by Sargon II, the balance of power in the region changed, and Manna was not mentioned in Urartian written sources after that. In this study, the importance of the Manna State, which has an important place in the history of Azerbaijan, in terms of the foreign policy of the Urartian State is discussed.

Babamiri, Navid Salehi. "The Struggle for Confiscation: An Imperialistic Look at Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Poem “Ulysses”". English Language and Literature Studies 7, nr 1 (20.01.2017): 9. http://dx.doi.org/10.5539/ells.v7n1p9.

Streszczenie:
The power of imperialism ascended during the Victorian age, when both the sense of nationalism and industrial revolution concurrently took place. Imperialism in its kind is the sense of domination of one group of people over another, or to a great point, it’s the domination of one country to other countries to confiscate its properties and belongings. Here in the poem written by Alfred Lord Tennyson, the poet tries to ironize the situation by showing and focusing on such an old king (may be the king of England), who has recently come back home from his travels and has complained about his “idleness.” This “idleness” for the king is equal to ceasing the kind of power, namely, if he does not move and battle, he has nothing for his country, and even he does not record a name for himself in the history of England. Thus the aim of the present paper is not only limitedto the relation between power and the sense of imperialism, a relation that leads to malicious and destructive behavior but it also condemns that kind of relation. However, it is done implicitly, as once the poet did in his poem, by showing the negative use of power in hands of some, like the king of England, who has done his best even at his death’s door to continue again and conquer wherever he sees that brings benefits to him. Not surprisingly; the poem also implies to the battle of Troy in the sense of imperial actions.

St Edmund, king and martyr (an Anglo-Saxon king martyred by the Vikings in 869) was one of the most venerated English saints in Ireland from the 12th century. In Dublin, St Edmund had his own chapel in Christ Church Cathedral and a guild, while Athassel Priory in County Tipperary claimed to possess a miraculous image of the saint. In the late 14th century the coat of arms ascribed to St Edmund became the emblem of the king of England’s lordship of Ireland, and the name Edmund (or its Irish equivalent Éamon) was widespread in the country by the end of the Middle Ages. This article argues that the cult of St Edmund, the traditional patron saint of the English people, served to reassure the English of Ireland of their Englishness, and challenges the idea that St Edmund was introduced to Ireland as a heavenly patron of the Anglo-Norman conquest.

This paper analyzed the loyalty to Ming and the management style to run the country of King Sukjong pursued in the poem written by himself, during his reign. It tried to analyzed that the multi-layered meaning of pome written by King Sukjong of the paintings by the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the portraits of loyalists representing the allegiance, and the maps and astronomical maps from the following three aspects. First, Daebodan Altar was built as a strategy for the king to monopolize ritual control over the Ming emperor in relation to the construction of the Mandongmyo Shrine by Song Si-yeol's followers, in terms of emphasizing the justification for loyalty to Ming based on the revenge against the Qing Dynasty during King Sukjong’s reign. At the same time, there was a strong tendency to cherish the paintings and calligraphies of the Ming emperor and to write poem to memory for their works. In addition, during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, the belief in Guanwoo helped the generals of the Ming Dynasty expanded and the Gwanwangmyo Shrine built in Joseon with the financial support of the emperor Shinjong became an important medium for reminding the fact that the Ming Dynasty re-establish Joseon. King Sukjong wrote poems inspired by the paintings of Guanwang with the hope that he will protect Joseon. Second, the main topics of national affairs were reviewed, such as the pursuit of the royal statesmanship through the lessonary historical pictures, the acceptance of loyal advice, and the establishment of the right people for the contury. King Sukjong revealed the ways to rule the country through the painting of a boat floating on a very big ocean, Jusudo in 1675 that he liked learning, accepted loyal advice, and valued the right men. A few of poems by King Sukjong were left on paintings depicting the activities of Zhuge Liang and Akbi, who were enshrined together as a model of loyalty at Muhusa Temple in Yeongyu-hyeon. Third, King Sukjong left the poems while appreciating maps and astronomical maps, the main symbols of rule. First of all, looking at the Dongguk Map, he declared that Joseon was a small country but if it was ruled by virtue, it would be as good as China. He saw the astronomical map, which are the main means of governing, along with the map, and maintained the position that if a King cultivate virtue, his country will reach a happy occasion and if a King neglect, disaster will occur.

The uniqueness of Siam in being the only independent Southeast Asian country in the age of nineteenth-century colonialism is a mantra that persists largely to this day. It held that it was the calibre of the Siamese monarchs in particular King Chulalongkorn (1868–1910), the fifth reign of the present regnant dynasty, which saved the country from succumbing to the powerful and predatory west. By continuing his father King Mongkut's (1851–1868) foresight in adopting an open door policy by signing the Bowring Treaty (1855) and reforming the country's administration in conformity to their model of government, the king gained the recognition by the Europeans of Siam as a civilised country. As a tribute to the king's greatness, in particular for his benevolent rule and pivotal reforms, the ‘colloquial, affectionate, yet awesome’ title ‘Lord of Life’ (chao chiwit) was used by his subjects especially around this period, according to the royal family historian writing in 1960 who was a grandson of King Chulalongkorn. In 2003, another direct descendant of the king wrote that it was no less the ‘Lord of Life, Lord of the Realm, the fountain and embodiment of moral and spiritual power itself who recognised that survival in the face of colonialism necessitated engagement in diplomacy and internal reforms. By dint of such enlightened measures, the Siamese polity was transformed and strengthened. in political history, the emphasis has been on the efficiency and good governance made possible by the modernising administrative system.

As Africa continues to develop as a foreign direct investment (FDI) destination, greater emphasis must be placed on domestic and international regulations seeking to facilitate governance levels (Awolusi, Adeyeye, & Pelser, 2017, p. 195). This study investigated the degree of compliance to 2016 King IV Report on Corporate Governance™ for South Africa (King IV™) principles and recommended practices by 17 sampled Standard Bank African subsidiaries. An extensive literature review of business ethics and corporate governance was performed, focusing on works from Kretzschmar et al. (2012) and Geach (2009). King IV™ recommended practices were used as constructs to measure the level of compliance. To answer the three research questions and meet the three research objectives, a manual questionnaire approach was employed to collect data from 33 respondents that represented 17 Standard Bank African subsidiaries. Reliability of the constructs in the questionnaire was performed using a Cronbach’s alpha (α) with (α) equals 0.857 indicating a high level of internal consistency for the nominal scales used in the questionnaire. Validity was established through the research design and sequential mixed methods employed. Based on the respondents’ feedback the researchers developed the corporate governance and business ethics framework for Standard Bank African subsidiaries incorporating King IV™. The modes of managing morality (MMM) business ethics model (Rossouw & van Vuuren, 2013, p. 58) was fused into the framework. The researchers are of the view that the framework would assist Standard Bank Group in realising its stated purpose. A set of recommendations that would assist the Standard Bank Group in meeting the prescripts of King IV™ are proffered

The state is an organization that includes territory, a number of people, and has sovereign power. Every country has a political system, namely a pattern of mechanisms or the exercise of power. While power is the right and authority and responsibility to manage certain tasks. The management of a country is what is called the constitutional system. The constitutional system is studied in political science. In Indonesia, the regulation of the constitutional system is regulated in the 1945 Constitution, Laws or Government Regulations in Lieu of Laws, Government Regulations, Presidential Regulations, and Regional Regulations. The government of the Netherlands adheres to a constitutional monarchy system, where the government is established under a constitutional system that recognizes the king (or emperor) as the head of state. Modern constitutional monarchies usually use the concept of trias politica or triad politics. This means that the king is only the symbolic chairman of the executive branch. If a king has full governmental power, he is called absolute monarchy. Because the Dutch state adheres to a constitutional monarchy government system, this governmental process has an impact, namely that sometimes it comes from the king himself because he is afraid of being coup d'etat or sometimes the constitutional process takes effect because of the people's revolution against the king.

This article explores the intricacies that have shaped the political and economic landscape of Congo from colonial period to post-independence times. The examination of the situation in Congo is undertaken though the eyes of Joseph Conrad in Heart of Darkness (1899), Mark Twain in King Leopold’s Soliloquy (1905), Adam Hochschild in King Leopold’ Ghost (1998) and Michela Wrong in In the Footsteps of Mr. Kurtz: Living on the Brink of Disaster in Mobutu’s Congo (2000). In his novella, Conrad navigates through the Congo River and penetrates into the interior of Congo and ushers us to the emergence of European imperial powers in Africa. In this compelling tale, Conrad explores the European’s exploration and exploitation of the Congo under Belgium’s King Leopold II. In King Leopold’s Soliloquy Mark Twain largely satirizes King Leopold’s self-importance while plundering Congo while Hochschild in King Leopold’ Ghost advances King Leopold’s state capture of Congo Free State and making the country his own property. Michela Wrong’s In the Footsteps of Mr. Kurtz captures Congo’s tribulation under Mobutu’s regime. Wrong navigates the political journey of post-independence Congo and seems to suggest that the Congolese people are not free from political and economic sabotage from leaders who have personalized the country even after the exit of the white man. This paper therefore examines the personalities of King Leopold II of Belgium and Joseph Desire Mobutu of the independent Congo as projected in the selected texts. The article shows that the Congo curse is deeply rooted in the country’s political leadership and examines the insatiable appetite of King Leopold II and Joseph Desire Mobutu for the mineral wealth through the lenses of the four selected texts.

In a survey conducted prior to the Queen’s passing, 51 percent of respondents affirmed that the country “should not remain a part of the monarchy in coming generations.” While 55 percent of those surveyed supported the country continuing as a constitutional monarchy so long as the Queen reigned, only 34 percent expressed the same once Charles was to become King. Time will tell whether this general apprehension about Charles III will continue, but given the negative public standing of the new King and the monarchy in general, the question is bound to arise: how can the British royal family be removed from Canada’s constitutional architecture?

In May 1944, Dorothy L. Sayers exchanged letters and had a phone conversation with William Lyon Mackenzie King, the prime minister of Canada. Sayers's letter made such an impression on King that he saw mystical and prophetic significance in its arrival and used it in a speech he gave in the Canadian House of Commons. This study uses the digitised archives of King's diaries and the parliamentary records of his speech, as well as Canadian media accounts from the time. It will be shown that Sayers played an underappreciated role in helping the Canadian prime minister rally his country during the war, as the speech that used her letter met with acclaim across the political spectrum and received positive notice in Canadian newspapers. In the weeks leading up to D-Day, Sayers played an integral role in building up the morale of Canada's prime minister, as he endeavoured to inspire his country. Finally, King's diaries offer first-hand testimony of how one important contemporary figure reacted to the radio broadcasts of The Man Born to Be King, as he particularly enjoyed Sayers's portrayal of the masculinity of Jesus.

Among them, Dr. Ion Conea, an innovative geographer, played a significant role. In the royal school, Michael received an innovative education, including field trips, geographic and historical syntheses and analyses, enhancing his knowledge of his country and preparing him for his future royal role. Ion Conea’s work, which covers this period, stands as a valuable source for understanding the intellectual development of King Michael I and the modern pedagogical approaches used during that time.

This research aims to analyze the relationship between religion and country in the perspective of Islamic law. Among the scholars who are referenced in religious and state relations is al-Ghazali. His thoughts on the concept of religion and country are interesting to research. This research uses descriptive-qualitative methods in the form of library research. The results showed that between religion and state has a connection, so al-Ghazali analogizes religion and the king as 'two twins', of which religion is a foundation, while the king is the guardian. Something without a foundation will easily collapse and a foundation without guards will disappear. The existence of the king is a necessity for the order of the world, the order of the world is a necessity for religious order, and religious order is a necessity for the attainment of the welfare of the hereafter. Unequivocally, al-Ghazali said that a country that ignores morals (morals, ethics) will gradually suffer destruction or destruction. To that, al-Ghazali offers five ideal and moral conceptions of the state. The five conceptions are interdependence towards happiness, the fusion of science with religion and morals, moral-politics, the head of state who is sincere, and moral in international relations and deeds.

This article describes the Arab Spring phenomenon that rocked the Middle East, especially Morocco. Arab Spring succeeded in bringing down the authoritarian leaders and dictators in power. This study uses decision-making theory to describe the problems that occur. Then the writer uses the descriptive-analytical method to fulfill the research sources to be studied. This research tries to answer the question how is the strategy of King Mohammed VI to avoid the storm of the Arab revolution after a series of protests that took place in his country? After conducting the research, we concluded that the strategy of King Mohammed VI in dealing with the wave of demonstrators in Morocco could be said to be different from the method used by other North African countries. King Mohammed VI changed his approach to problem-solving, not using violence but with a persuasive strategy. His efforts in stifling the turmoil of demonstrations in his country bore fruit. At least two factors contributed to his success in reducing protests in his country, namely the factors of openness and trust. This success made Morocco maintain its government without the fall of leadership. It is different from countries in the phenomenon of the Arab Spring.

The people of Nepal have made numerous sacrifices and engaged in various democratic movements and armed conflicts in order to achieve democracy in the country. These efforts have been successful, and Nepal is now a federal democratic republic. In the past, Nepal was ruled by a centralized monarchy, but this changed in 1950 with the Movement for democracy. However, the elected Nepali Congress government was not able to effectively address the people's needs, and King Mahendra's ambition led to the implementation of the autocratic Panchayat system in 1990. This system was eventually replaced with a multi-party democracy and constitutional monarchy in 1990, but the people were dissatisfied with the parties' governing style and the 2001 Royal massacre and King Gyanendra's ambition led to the country being ruled directly by the King. The Maoist insurgency fought for the political rights and socio-economic uplift of the people, but it was the 2005/2006 civilian movement, led by civil society, that had the greatest impact on the country. This research studies the role and contribution of Pokhara's civil society in the 19-day movement of 2006, which aimed to bring about political change and overthrow the autocracy, and its impact on Nepal.

Abstract. The spatial and temporal distribution of sea-level rise has the potential to cause regional flooding in certain areas, and low-lying island countries are severely at risk. Tuvalu, an atoll country located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, has been inundated by this regional flooding for decades. Tuvaluans call this regional flooding phenomenon King Tide, a term not clearly defined, blaming it for loss of life and property in announcing their intention to migrate. In this study, we clarified and interpreted King Tide, and analyzed the factors of King Tide in Tuvalu. Using tide gauge and topographical data, we estimated that 3.2 m could be considered the threshold of King Tide, which implied half of the island of Tuvalu was flooded with seawater. This threshold is consistent with the finding of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that King Tide events occur once or twice a year. We surveyed 28 King Tide events to analyze the factors of regional flooding. Tide gauge and satellite altimeter data from 1993 to 2012 were cross-validated and indicated that the King Tide phenomenon is significantly related to the warm-water effect. Warm water contributed to the King Tide phenomenon by an average of 5.1% and a maximum of 7.8%. The height of King Tide is affected by the combined factors of spring tide, storm surge, climate variability, and, significantly, by the warm-water effect.

Chola kings of Sangam period are so great among the Chera, Chola, Pandiya kings, Vēlir (Heads of small territory) and philanthropists of Puranānūru. Their reigns seems to include the special features of modern democracy. They reformed the forests, improved the water resources and gave a good governance to the citizens. So, they were praised as “the kings of water resources”, “possessors of paddy”, “Chola kingdom has abundance of rice” etc., relating to the richness of their country. As they nipped the enemies in the bud it self they were called ‘killi’; ‘chenni’ as they had the leadership qualities and ‘Valaran’, as they ruled an opulent country. To know the greatness of Chola kings in total, Cholan Nalangilli has been chosen, whose dignity has been sung in fourteen poems in Puranānūru. This is like testing with a single cooked rice, the fitness condition of the entire pot. Bringing out the facts about the rule of Cholas, their charity, sympathy, valour, bravery, administrative skills, patronage etc., are the objectives of the paper.

Nalavenba deals with Nalan-Damayanti's love life and the evil caused by gambling. Although it is a romantic epic, it is seen as a work filled with many virtues. Even though it is a story of a gambling bad king, there are many virtues. The people of the Mavinda city are well educated, they do not beg, and are not deceitful. Nalan is seen as one who distributes love and saves the country with good rules, strength and better mind. Nalan is seen as an expert in offering to the people. Veeman's capital was well guarded by guards. Gambling destroys one's moral behaviour, removes compassion in the mind and creates enmity. The book talks about the disgrace of gambling. Nalan loses his country by gambling, leaves the country with his wife and children. Nalan-Damayanti's familial life is highlighted. The incident of king saving Damayanti from the snake's mouth shows a life-saving feature. Thus, many virtues and ethical thoughts are abounded in this book.

The scope of the personality of Peter the Great questions the logic of his large-scale reforms in practical terms. It began along with the war, coincided with the war, and in a number of key issues was determined by the need to wage the war, arm and supply the army, and restructure its management. Attention to his reforms is connected not so much with the anniversary of Peter I in 2022, but with the need to understand the historical path of Russia and to form the country's cultural code under the influence of his reforms. Starting with a humble goal of opening a “window to Europe”, after 1714 administrative reforms became more extensive and comprehensive. The logic of the reforms was determined not only by the aspiration to Europe and not by the teleology of creating an empire. It was more about the pragmatic need to use the window of opportunity to get out of the “ring track” of a vast forest power squeezed by three imperial (regardless of titles) neighbors of other faiths - Turkey, Poland and Sweden. The course and needs of the Northern War to a large extent determined the nature of the reforms, with the success in the war resulting in the formation of the empire. The paper formulates possible alternative ways of Russia's development at the turn of the 16th-17th centuries, uses the methodology inherent in the new institutional economic school to compare discrete structural alternatives that stand in the way of the country and the hero of the article at two critical time points. The reforms outcomes and the war gave the country a chance for development, though a large-scale transition to more mature European socio-economic institutions could not be implemented in this short period and under war conditions.
