The 21st century has witnessed the rise of a genre of literature that has taken both the reading public and the publishing industry by storm. The ‘medimoir’—or medical memoir—is not in itself a new genre of writing, but has risen to prominence in a contemporary British context of renewed focus on public health and wellbeing, a proliferation of professional confessionals in publishing, and debates about the future of the free-at-point-of-care British National Health Service (NHS). The most prolific medimoir published to date is Adam Kay’s This Is Going to Hurt (2017), a reflective diary that chronicles his time as a trainee gynaecologist in the NHS, and his subsequent exit from medical training in the face of growing personal and political pressures on his profession. This article contextualises and considers the rise of the medimoir, and examines why this genre of medical narrative has become such a critical, literary, and publishing success in the first two decades of the new millennium.

ABSTRACTThe acquisition of colour terms in pre-school-aged children was investigated in two studies. The first study explored the role of conceptual factors in 2-, 3- and 4-year-old children's performance on two tasks. Comprehension and production of basic colour words were tested using stimuli that varied in focality. The results confirmed earlier research demonstrating the important and early influence of focality on children's colour concepts and developing colour lexicon. However, only moderate support was obtained for the order-of-acquisition hypothesis proposed by Berlin & Kay (1969). Quite large discrepancies between comprehension and production were found in this study, with no clear relationship between these two performances. In the second study the role of maternal input on children's learning of colour words was investigated, using the spontaneous speech transcripts from Adam, Eve and Sarah. Significant correlations between mothers' and children's uses of specific colour words were found across all three subjects. The findings from both studies confirm that both conceptual and environmental factors are important in shaping the child's developing colour concepts and colour lexicon, particularly for mapping out the boundaries of the basic colour spaces, which are culturally, rather than innately, determined.

Abstract Background: HER2-targeted therapies have led to marked improvements in survival for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer. Despite the gains obtained with current HER2-targeted therapies, an unmet medical need remains for patients with HER2-expressing (high or low expression) advanced breast cancer that has progressed after prior treatments. Zanidatamab is a novel HER2-targeted bispecific antibody that has multiple mechanisms of action, including immune clearance of HER2-expressing tumor cells through antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis. Zanidatamab has been shown to be well-tolerated and has demonstrated antitumor activity, both as monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapy, across HER2-expressing solid tumors in a Phase 1 study. ALX148 is a high affinity CD47-blocking fusion protein with an inactive human immunoglobulin Fc region designed to enhance the activity of anticancer therapies, including antibodies, with minimal added hematologic toxicity. Treatment with zanidatamab in combination with ALX148 has the potential to augment the immune clearance of HER2-expressing cancer cells by blocking the CD47-SIRPa interaction that inhibits phagocytosis of the same cancer cells. In a Phase 1 study, ALX148 demonstrated antitumor activity when combined with trastuzumab in patients whose disease had progressed on prior HER2-targeted therapies. Here, we describe a Phase 1b/2 study to investigate the safety and antitumor activity of a chemotherapy-free combination of zanidatamab plus ALX148 in advanced HER2-expressing cancers, including breast cancer. Methods: ZWI-ZW25-204 is a Phase 1b/2, 2-part, open-label, multicenter study to evaluate the safety and antitumor activity of zanidatamab administered in combination with ALX148 in patients with locally advanced/inoperable and/or metastatic HER2-expressing cancer. Part 1 of this study will evaluate safety and tolerability and will establish the recommended doses (RDs) of zanidatamab plus ALX148. It will include patients with either HER2-positive (defined per ASCO/CAP guidelines) or HER2-low (defined as immunohistochemistry [IHC] 1+ or IHC 2+/in situ hybridization (ISH) negative) breast cancer. Part 2 will evaluate the antitumor activity of zanidatamab plus ALX148 (at their combination therapy RDs) in 3 expansion cohorts: HER2-positive breast cancer (Cohort 1), HER2-low breast cancer (Cohort 2) and other HER2-overexpressing advanced malignancies (Cohort 3). Other key eligibility criteria include: prior use of approved agents known to confer clinical benefit, disease progression on or after the most recent systemic therapy, measurable disease per Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors version 1.1 (RECIST 1.1). Patients will receive zanidatamab and ALX148, each administered intravenously once every 2 weeks in a 28-day treatment cycle. Response assessments will be performed every 8 weeks. Primary endpoints include safety and tolerability assessments (Part 1) and confirmed objective response rate per RECIST 1.1 (Part 2). Secondary endpoints in Part 2 include disease control rate, clinical benefit rate, duration of response, progression-free survival, overall survival, safety, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity assessments. Straipsnyje aiškinamasi, kaip buvo sudarinėjamos L. A. Jucevičiaus knygos. Tyrimo metu paaiškėjo, kad dalis autoriaus parengtų knygų, ypač pirmaisiais mokslinės veiklos metais, būdavo rašomos iškart ištisai. Tačiau vėlesni ir žymiausi jo veikalai būdavo spausdinami sujungus ir neretai praplėtus tekstus, publikuotus to meto periodinėje spaudoje, visų pirma Rusijos imperijos valdžiai lojalaus lenkų kalba ėjusio savaitraščio „Tygodnik Petersburski“ bei kitų leidinių puslapiuose. This study investigates the petrographical and chemical characteristics of a group of Zeuxippus Ware Related Ceramics dating to the late 12th-13th centuries from Kusadasi Kadikalesi/Anaia. Kadikalesi was a Byzantine fortress at the coast of Aegean Sea. It was also a significant commercial port and an episcopacy center during the 13th century. In this study, visual classifications of the ceramics were carried out based on their stylistic properties. Then, ceramic samples were investigated by several methods including mineralogical, micromorphological, chemical (SEM-EDX, ICP-OES, ICP-MS) and Raman Spectrometry techniques and further evaluated by statistical analyses. Bodies are found to be rich in SiO2 and Al2O3 while relatively high amounts of Fe2O3 measured, agree well with their reddish bodies. These bodies mostly display micaceous matrix with a relatively low degree of vitrification. Cluster analysis performed among thirty selected samples, points out the presence of two main groups. Observed slip layers are also found to be rich in SiO2 and Al2O3 contents and exhibit various types of crystalline and/or vitreous matrix. Glazes are found to be high lead glazes processed at or below. The glazes are found to be high lead glazes processed at or below 700°
C as confirmed by SEM-EDX and Raman spectrometry investigations. Iron compounds are the major coloring agents for most of the glazes analyzed regardless of their observed colors. Presence of Raman peaks in some yellow glazes which may be assigned to a solid solution of Naples yellow type of pigment is significant since its use in the Byzantine period as a glaze pigment has been scarcely reported before.

This by-practice project is the first to provide an extensive investigation of the marginalisation of era appropriate science (EAS) and professional investigators by detective and historical detective fiction authors. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse specific detective fiction authors from the earliest formats of the nineteenth century through to the 1990s and contemporary, selected historical detective fiction authors. Its aim is to examine the creation, development and perpetuation of the marginalisation tradition. This generic trend can be read as the authors privileging their detective’s innate skillset, metonymic connectivity and deductive abilities, while underplaying and belittling EAS and professional investigators. Chapter One establishes the project’s critique of the generic trend by considering parental authors, E. T. A Hoffmann, Edgar Allan Poe, Émile Gaboriau and Wilkie Collins. Reading how these authors instigated and purposed the downplaying demonstrates its founding within detective fiction at the earliest point. By comparing how the authors sidelined and omitted specific EAS and professional investigators, alongside science available at the time, this thesis provides a framework for examining how it continued in detective fiction. In following chapters, the framework established in Chapter One and the theoretical views of Charles Rzepka, Lee Horsley, Stephen Knight and Martin Priestman, are used to discuss how minimising EAS and professional investigators developed into a tradition; and became a generic trend in the recognised detective fiction formula that was used by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Freeman Wills Crofts, H. C. Bailey, R. Austin Freeman, Agatha Christie, Ruth Rendell and P. D. James. I then examine how the device transferred to historical detective fiction, using the framework to consider Ellis Peters, Umberto Eco and other selected contemporary authors of historical detective fiction. Throughout, the critical aspect considers how the trivialisation developed and perpetuated through a generic trend. The research concludes that there is a trend embedded within detective and historical detective fiction. One that was created, developed and perpetuated by authors to augment their fictional detective’s innate skillset and to help produce narratives using it is a creative process. It further concludes that the trend can be reimagined to plausibly use EAS and professional investigators in detective and historical detective fiction. The aim of the creative aspect of the project is to employ the research and demonstrate how the tradition can be successfully reinterpreted. To do so, the historical detective fiction novel A Hidden Life uses traditional features of the detective fiction formula to support and strengthen plausible EAS and professional investigators within the narrative. The end result is a historical detective fiction novel. One that proves the thesis conclusion and is fundamentally crafted by the critical research.

Die Studie untersucht die Rezeption von Friedrich Schiller in Dänemark. Ausgehend von der Tatsache, dass der Dichter ab 1793 vom dänischen Erbprinzen Friedrich Christian von Schleswig-Sonderburg Augustenburg großzügig finanziell gefördert wurde, war anzunehmen, dass Schiller schon recht früh in Dänemark große Beachtung fand. Das Stipendium des Erbprinzen verschaffte Schiller die notwendige Arbeitsruhe, um sein Programm einer ästhetischen Erziehung auszuarbeiten. Doch ein Blick auf die weitere Rezeption der Briefe über die ästhetische Erziehung des Menschen zeigt, dass sie nur wenig beachtet wurden und erst 1970 in dänischer Sprache vorlagen. Es wird zunächst untersucht, welche Persönlichkeiten an der Vermittlung von Schiller im 19. Jahrhundert beteiligt sind und welche seiner Schriften besondere Beachtung finden und welche kaum wahrgenommen werden. Da Schiller in Dänemark hauptsächlich als Dramenautor wahrgenommen wird, widmet sich die Untersuchung der Bühnengeschichte seiner Dramen am Königlichen Theater in Kopenhagen. Ebenso wird untersucht, inwieweit Schiller als stilbildendes Vorbild für dänische Dichter ausgemacht werden kann. Hier stehen insbesondere Adam Oehlenschlägers Tragödien und Schack Staffeldts Lyrik sowie die Dramen von Kaj Munk im Fokus des Interesses.

AbstractThe provincial governments of Papua and West Papua have expressed their commitments and enacted policies to develop Papua Land in a sustainable manner through the issuance of Papua 2100 Vision, the 2019 Manokwari Declaration, and the ‘green’ spatial plan of Papua province. However, the implementation of these policies in balancing protection of forests and improvement of livelihood of indigenous Papuans has been slow. By employing a political economy approach, the study explores how interactions between the political economy structure, institutions, and actors have resulted in slow implementation of such commitments, particularly in reviewing the compliance of land-based industry licenses and acknowledging customary (adat) areas. The study was conducted between February 2020 and March 2021 and encompassed approximately 50 key informant interviews – including donors, civil society organizations, adat leaders, national and subnational governments, observers, academics, and journalists – and document review. The findings of this study suggest that the reform is mainly driven by development partners and limited numbers of bureaucrats that align with the indigenous Papuans’ interest to protect their land from outsiders. The small coalitions were successful in focusing their effort to enact green policies in the two provinces. However, the study highlights constraints faced by these actors to turn the policies into actions: (1) the existence of wide array of powerful actors – non-Papuans and Papuans – with strong economic and political interests identified at central, provincial, and regency level to hinder the enforcement of problematic land-based licenses and clarify adat areas; (2) the absence of broad-based political support. These have hampered the implementation of the green policies under the two aspects above. This study recommends reviewing policy at the national level to create enabling environment for green policies implementation in both provinces, e.g., to review the Omnibus Law, supporting the regency-level actors to accelerate issuance of the perda PPMHA and local-level regulations on adat-managed areas, supporting licenses review in Southern part of Papua Province to limit the operation of these businesses to expand in forest areas and disrespect adat rights over their lands, and exploring engagement with the opposing parties at all administrative level.

AbstractPolicy-makers define our lives to a great extent, and are therefore the people everybody wants to talk to. They receive hundreds of messages in various forms day-by-day with the aim of making them decide for or against something. They are in an especially difficult situation as regards the so-called “wicked” or “diffuse” problems such as climate change and biodiversity loss (Millner and Olivier, 2015; Sharman and Mlambo, 2012; Zaccai and Adams, 2012). These problems are limitedly tackled at the policy level despite their major socio-economic and environmental implications, which is often explained by their complexity with a sense of remoteness of effects (Cardinale et al., 2012; WWF, 2018). Communicating advocacy or scientific messages of biodiversity is therefore both a challenge and an under-researched topic (Bekessy et al., 2018; Posner et al., 2016; Primmer et al., 2015; Wright et al., 2017), where both social and natural sciences and both scientists and practitioners are needed to contribute (Ainscough et al., 2019). In order to be successful in delivering messages, communication not only needs to be self-explanatory and easy to consume but novel as well. It additionally helps if the message arrives in a more extraordinary format to draw even more attention. Based on experiences drawn from a conservation and advocacy NGO’s work, this chapter will divulge various socio-economic theories about creative methods, communication, and influencing decision-makers through a campaign fighting for the preservation of key nature legislation. It will be demonstrated how different EU policy-makers, including representatives of the European Commission and Members of the European Parliament, the general public, and other stakeholders, were addressed with various messages and tools (e.g., short films, social media campaigns, fact sheets, involvement of champions). In addition to other key factors such as public support, knowledge of the target audience and political context, the probable impacts and limitations of these messages will also be elaborated. The relevance to the integration and employment of better socio-economic theories into improving communication is straightforward. It is crucial to tailor-make future advocacy work of “wicked problems” such as biodiversity loss and climate change, since these are not usually backed up by major lobby forces and are, therefore, financed inadequately compared to their significance. Understanding the way in which policy-makers pick up or omit certain messages, as well as what framing, methods and channels are the most effective in delivering them to the policy-makers, is pivotal for a more sustainable future.

Little, Brown, Boston, 1984) and Michael Howlett (Public Policy Adm 34(4):405–430, 2019). The chapter states that there were several factors leading to the adoption of Vision Zero. First, the road safety problems were not as serious as in many other regions of the USA, but compared to other major cities in the western world, the fatalities and serious injuries in New York City were deemed unacceptable by politicians, NGOs, and the public. The imminent problem on the ground was further emphasized by several high-profile cases of child fatalities in traffic crashes. Second, the Vision Zero policy or philosophy was a coherent and above all a successfully tested policy based on a scientific foundation. The credit for introducing Vision Zero in the New York City context is given to non-governmental organizations such as Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets and specific public administrators in key positions. These actors were all searching for new solutions, and as the politicians placed road safety high on the agenda, a window of opportunity was opened to Vision Zero. In addition, politicians, with the support and pressure from NGOs, established a policy program based on Vision Zero, and this program further established a belief in Vision Zero as a credible way forward. There was and is criticism directed towards the policy based on equity and that Vision Zero risks strengthening discriminatory structures. To achieve this goal, they have invested in the development of active safety features, which are designed to prevent accidents from occurring in the first place. These innovations are driven by a desire to save lives and reduce the risk of injury or death on the road. The implementation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving functions requires a high level of complexity and coordination between various subsystems. To meet these challenges, modular design of the domain controller has emerged as a promising approach. By separating the controller into smaller, specialized modules, it is possible to more efficiently and effectively manage the various functions needed for ADAS and automated driving. In this paper, we present a summary of our research on the use of the modular design approach for the domain controller in the context of implementing ADAS and automated driving end-to-end functions. Testing at different levels is also a key factor in ensuring that the overall system is robust, and all functions perform as intended. We use the Automatic Parking Assist (APA) function as a case study to demonstrate how the APA function was implemented on our developed domain controller and to discuss the benefits of this approach. Through this case study, we provide insight into the potential of the modular design approach for the domain controller to support the development of advanced ADAS and automated driving systems and identify the key considerations that need to be addressed in order to effectively implement this approach, including the importance of testing at different levels</div></div>

The number of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) in the vehicle has continuously increased during the last years. There is, however, a lack of understanding in how this information can be better conveyed to the driver, in order to optimize its help. Drivers may become overexposed to visual information when driving, or acoustic alerts can be masked in noised environments. Moreover, if the user is not paying attention to the road or using headphones, visual and acoustic alerts would not be as efficient or desirable, but the key is the multimodal communication.Therefore, a study has been carried to evaluate the effectiveness of a new haptic and acoustic ADAS system comparing it to conventional visual ADAS. This new system is called Vibe system, that consists of a seat with haptic actuators and acoustic signals. In order to carry out the experiment, 20 subjects in ‘standard’ sleeping conditions and 10 in ‘sleep deprived’ conditions participated in the experiment. The experimentations were taken place in the dynamic driving simulator developed by the IBV’s Human Autonomous Vehicle (HAV). Users were immersed in driving tasks, in day and night conditions, with CARLA SW in the HAV simulator while several visual, auditive and haptic alerts appeared to simulate different ADAS of some of the most common vehicle brands. In every hazardous situation during the driving tasks, the following alerts were triggered: drowsiness, blind spot alert, overspeed alert and lane change. The driving behavior, the mental status and the user opinion of each user was gathered using telemetry, physiological signals and validated questionnaires such as TAM or SUS.In a general overview, there are barely no statistically significant difference in the main parameters between the haptic and the conventional visual ADAS evaluated, so the effect of each signal is similar in controlled conditions. Currently, the acceptance of traditional ADAS is slightly higher but haptic ADAS acceptance improves along sessions, even being a new technology.

Abstract With the recent energy crisis, the new energy harvesting technologies have become one of the hot spots in engineering academic research and industrial applications. By its wide range of application fields, vibration energy harvesting technologies have been gradually developed and utilized in which an efficient and stable harvester technology is one of the recent key problems. In order to improve energy harvesting efficiency and reduce energy loss caused by motor inertial commutation, many mechanical structures or hydraulic structures that convert reciprocating vibration energy into single direction rotation of motor are proposed. Although these methods can improve energy harvesting efficiency, they can have negative effects in some cases, especially in the case of vibration energy harvesting from human beings. This paper proposes a vibration harvesting mechanism with mechanical rectification filter function applied to backpack. The prototype model of the system was established in SolidWorks and imported into ADAMS. Thereafter, dynamic analyses of mechanical rectification filtering characteristics and meshing characteristics of one-way clutch were simulated in ADAMS. Based on ADAMS, parametric design analysis and its influence on the mechanical rectification characteristics were investigated. The simulation results were validated by bench test results. Simulation results is done by ADAMS and the results match well with bench test results.

Abstract Digital transformation has always been one of the focuses of the oil & gas industry players in recent years. However, the pandemic and oil downturn last year has put the industry players in a digitization overdrive in the pursuit of leaner and cost-effective operations to stay ahead in these unprecedented times. This paper discusses the strategy, approach, and challenges in the adoption and implementation of the Automated Drilling Performance Measurement (ADPM) onsite and remote approach. This includes Wells Real-Time Center (WRTC), which utilizes the ADPM, an easy access analysis application for operational optimization. The implementation of ADPM falls under the PETRONAS Well Cost Compression focus area of Operational Optimization, which aims to achieve the operational technical limit and non-productive time (NPT) reduction. The stages of operational optimization via ADPM are broken down into pre-spud operations, operations, and post-well analysis. A historical performance study is conducted in pre-spud operations and case study sessions with the project team and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Once in operations, best practices for the focused key performance indicator (KPI) and ad-hoc gap analysis are implemented onsite throughout the well construction. Remotely, the KPIs are monitored by WRTC while rig contractors monitor the crew performance. The performance review is studied in post-well analysis, and the best practices are compiled for replication and lesson learned to improve future well's excellence. The evaluation of rig performance is conducted based on the focused KPIs criteria and Rig Scorecard criteria. Implementation of ADPM set clear and defined strategy from top management on digitalization and performance optimization. ADPM also helps foster performance optimization awareness and culture with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and expectations. For example, the application deployment for the Field B drilling campaign focused on tripping, drilling and casing KPI improvement while utilizing ADPM for data gathering and analysis. The result of this deployment is commendable, with a total actual savings of 2.94 days gained throughout the campaign. From 2016 to 2021, PETRONAS has gained a total of 39.03 days of actual savings for their entire rig fleet.

Abstract Optimization of production networks is key for managing efficient hydrocarbon production as part of closed-loop asset management. Large-scale surface network optimization is a challenging task that involves high nonlinearity with numerous constraints. In existing tools, the computational cost of solving the surface network optimization can exponentially increase with the size and complexities of the network using traditional approaches involving nonlinear programming methods. In this study, we accelerate the large-scale surface network optimization by using a distributed agent optimization algorithm called alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). We develop and apply the ADMM algorithm for large-scale network optimization with over 1000 wells and interconnecting pipelines. In the ADMM framework, a large-scale network system is broken down into many small sub-network systems. Then, a smaller optimization problem is formulated for each sub-network. These sub-network optimization problems are solved in parallel using multiple computer cores so that the entire system optimization will be accelerated. A large-scale surface network involves many inequality and equality constraints, which are effectively handled by using augmented Lagrangian method to enhance the robustness of convergence quality. Additionally, proxy or hybrid models can also be used for pipe flow and pressure calculation for every network segment to further speed up the optimization. The proposed ADMM optimization method is validated by several synthetic cases. We first apply the proposed method to surface network simulation problems of various sizes and complexities (configurations, fluid types, pressure regimes, etc.), where the pressure for all nodes and fluxes in all links will be calculated with a specified separator pressure and reservoir pressures. High accuracy was obtained from the ADMM framework compared with a commercial simulator. Next, the ADMM is applied to network optimization problems, where we optimize the pressure drop across a surface choke for every well to maximize oil production. In a large-scale network case with over 1000 wells, we achieve 2X – 3X speedups in computation time with reasonable accuracy from the ADMM framework compared with benchmarks. Finally, we apply the proposed method to a field case, and validate that the ADMM framework properly works for the actual field applications. A novel framework for surface network optimization was developed using the distributed agent optimization algorithm. The proposed framework provides superior computational efficiency for large- scale network optimization problems compared with existing benchmark methods. It enables more efficient and frequent decision-making of large-scale petroleum field management to maximize the hydrocarbon production subject to numerous system constraints.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The use of platforms to carry vulnerable road user (VRU) targets has become increasingly necessary with the rise of automated driver assistance systems (ADAS) on vehicles. These ADAS features must be tested in a wide variety of collision-imminent scenarios which necessitates the use of strikable targets carried by an overrun-able platform. To enable the testing of ADAS sensors such as lidar, radar, and vision systems, S-E-A, a longtime supplier of vehicle testing equipment, has created the STRIDE robotic platform (Small Test Robot for Individuals in Dangerous Environments). This platform contains many of the key ingredients of other platforms on the market, such as a hot-swappable battery, E-stop, and mounting points for targets. However, the STRIDE platform additionally provides features which can enable non-routine testing such as: turning in place, driving with an app on a mobile phone, user-scripting, and steep grade climbing capability. The combination of these elements makes STRIDE an innovative product which can fulfill the needs of specialized use cases and enable the development of more robust test scenarios.</div></div>

Economic and/or practical points to be addressed<br>Electric vehicle (EV) is one of most promising solutions to reduce carbon footprints on roads. Infrastructure development is always the key to encourage and facilitate drivers to use the EVs. Road conditions and high energy consumption for air conditioning are always recognized as primary barriers at this stage. Increasing the number of charging points is also crucial to popularize the use of EVs. This paper aims to review the suitability of using EVs in Asia countries, which have more than half of the population in the world. Methodology Market analysis including governmental polices on EV development are reviewed. Pilot trials of EVs in Asia countries have been implemented for many years and are discussed in this paper. The advantages and challenges of using different EVs are also elaborated. The possible measures for the development and enhancement of the charging infrastructure are outlined. Main scientific and technical The major requirements of EVs such as travelling distance, charging infrastructure, reliability, energy consumption, payload and gradeablility etc. are major factors to be considered by manufacturers and users. Many research results show that the design of EVs depends on different environmental conditions such as hilly terrains and high energy consumption for air-conditioning. Therefore, optimizing the electric powertrain system and energy system is crucial in the design stage of EVs to tackle on the needs for different countries. Achieved results We review the technical and operational requirements and define the major specifications of EVs for Asia countries. Different operational modes and relating challenges in different driving environments will be investigated. We propose to understand the key parameters which will improve the performance of EVs and the result will be set as a good reference for the future development of EVs

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">By 2030, about 95% of new vehicles sold globally will be connected, up from around 50% today. Around 45% of these vehicles will have intermediate and advanced connectivity features (source: McKinsey, 2021).</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Modernization, standardization, and automation are the key steps in the roadmap of data handling for connected vehicles. Vehicle software increasingly sits within a connected ecosystem of devices. Consumer expectations are shifting more towards digital compatibility, connectivity, and new functionalities offered in autonomous vehicles. Digitalization is turning the vehicles of the future into commodities that are as experimental as they are useful. Many OEMs are at the beginning of this transformation journey and have struggled on the software side of things. The entire automotive industry is putting its efforts into effectively monetizing the data captured during the development and management of autonomous vehicles. It is not easy to handle the complexity, elasticity, and volume of data involved.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">We are now realizing the possibilities of connected vehicles. Soon, the day will come when data no longer has to be stored directly in the vehicles, and this will naturally result in an enormous advantage in terms of performance and cost improvements for OEMs. However, the challenge is how the automotive industry will manage this transformation and maximize the inherent value of this huge amount of data. E.g., one single car can generate up to 1 TB of data in an hour. Traditional data storage methods simply cannot effectively manage costs to meet all the needs of customer experience and expectations.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">Leveraging the ADAS sensor data to speed up innovation and improve the customer experience will call for totally new capabilities and infrastructure. Load balancing and failover management are used to achieve data protection, integrity, and availability. Data is one of the assets of an organization, but without robust data handling, the right strategy can detect problems and automatically provide insights into your data center. This paper will give an excellent overview of how to handle petabytes of data on a daily basis in an automatic way with proper utilization of infrastructure and HPC resources and minimum manual tasks. I will describe how to handle data in a hybrid work model. hybrid if you have a data center on premises and, in the next stage, you want to go to any of the cloud data storage options because of time constraints, customer demand, or a third-party company involved in the data sharing concept. how to handle the number of HDDs in both data centers in an effective way without any impact on legacy systems and with complete data integrity.</div></div>

Vehicle manufacturers are facing increasing pressure by legislation and economics to reduce vehicle emissions and deliver improved fuel economy. Over the coming years, significant reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions need to be achieved to meet fleet targets, whilst at the same time satisfying the more stringent forthcoming Euro7 emissions regulations. This focus on techniques to reduce the tailpipe CO2 is increasing the interest in hybrid and electric vehicle technologies. Pure electric vehicles require bulky and expensive battery packs, with a high embedded CO2 content, to enable an acceptable driving range. Range Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs) partly overcome the limitations of current battery technology by having a range extender (REx) unit that allows a reduction of the traction battery storage capacity, whilst still maintaining an acceptable vehicle driving range. Building on previous research projects, focused on Rex and heavily downsized internal combustion engines, MAHLE have designed a plug-in hybrid driveline in which the systems have been fully integrated and optimised. The hybrid drive-line features a cost effective and high-efficiency, Miller-cycle, turbocharged, two-cylinder gasoline engine, with external exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) and a pre-chamber combustion system, achieving over 40% brake thermal efficiency from a very low-cost architecture. This compact engine is combined with an electric traction system which can satisfy the full-dynamic requirements of the vehicle, even during pure-electric operation. The internal combustion engine can be operated in either series hybrid, or direct drive modes, via a compact multi-speed transmission. The paper will present the key features of the hybrid drivetrain and will describe the various modes of operation in the vehicle. Results of testing to validate the pre-chamber combustion system, coupled with a very high geometric compression ratio (CR) and external cooled EGR, will also be presented to support the efficiency claims made in the paper. Drive-cycle analysis, based on the engine test results, will also be used to show the efficiency of the entire system. Finally, the paper will present the scalability of the concept across a range of vehicle classes and performance levels.

The availability and quality of pedestrian infrastructure play key roles in enabling access to transit. Many transit operators face challenges in facilitating this access, however, because they lack land use authority and encounter other institutional and programmatic impediments to effecting changes in the pedestrian environment. This report identifies the barriers to pedestrian access to transit in suburban communities located in the Pace Suburban Bus service area in northeastern Illinois and suggests potential solutions to overcome these barriers. The research team led several activities to collect data, including: conducting an academic literature review; reviewing pedestrian plans, policies, and programs in the region; surveying and interviewing key stakeholders; reviewing pedestrian funding sources; surveying and conducting case studies of peer transit agencies; conducting physical audits of pedestrian infrastructure; and interviewing residents of six municipalities about their transit access experiences. Lack of adequate funding, difficulties planning across jurisdictional boundaries, and conflicts in transportation priorities are major impediments to building pedestrian infrastructure. While planners and decision-makers tend to value pedestrian planning, challenges such as funding constraints and the need to retrofit suburban infrastructure are key barriers to implementation. Peer transit agencies face similar barriers to Pace and use strategies such as plan and policy development, diverse funding opportunities, and collaborative partnerships with stakeholder agencies and advocacy groups to overcome these barriers. Transit riders generally reported positive experiences with pedestrian access to transit in their communities. Many locations had robust infrastructure, but common deficiencies included poor sidewalk connectivity, incomplete crossings, lack of lighting and transit shelters, and deficiencies in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) infrastructure. A suite of policy recommendations for Pace and other partners that focus on planning, policy, funding, interagency coordination, education and training, infrastructure prioritization, and transit amenities address the full range of physical and institutional barriers identified in the research.

Objectives. This systematic review evaluates breast reconstruction options for women after mastectomy for breast cancer (or breast cancer prophylaxis). We addressed six Key Questions (KQs): (1) implant-based reconstruction (IBR) versus autologous reconstruction (AR), (2) timing of IBR and AR in relation to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, (3) comparisons of implant materials, (4) comparisons of anatomic planes for IBR, (5) use versus nonuse of human acellular dermal matrices (ADMs) during IBR, and (6) comparisons of AR flap types. Data sources and review methods. We searched Medline®, Embase®, Cochrane CENTRAL, CINAHL®, and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to March 23, 2021, to identify comparative and single group studies. We extracted study data into the Systematic Review Data Repository Plus (SRDR+). We assessed the risk of bias and evaluated the strength of evidence (SoE) using standard methods. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (registration number CRD42020193183). Results. We found 8 randomized controlled trials, 83 nonrandomized comparative studies, and 69 single group studies. Risk of bias was moderate to high for most studies. KQ1: Compared with IBR, AR is probably associated with clinically better patient satisfaction with breasts and sexual well-being but comparable general quality of life and psychosocial well-being (moderate SoE, all outcomes). AR probably poses a greater risk of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism (moderate SoE), but IBR probably poses a greater risk of reconstructive failure in the long term (1.5 to 4 years) (moderate SoE) and may pose a greater risk of breast seroma (low SoE). KQ 2: Conducting IBR either before or after radiation therapy may result in comparable physical well-being, psychosocial well-being, sexual well-being, and patient satisfaction with breasts (all low SoE), and probably results in comparable risks of implant failure/loss or need for explant surgery (moderate SoE). We found no evidence addressing timing of IBR or AR in relation to chemotherapy or timing of AR in relation to radiation therapy. KQ 3: Silicone and saline implants may result in clinically comparable patient satisfaction with breasts (low SoE). There is insufficient evidence regarding double lumen implants. KQ 4: Whether the implant is placed in the prepectoral or total submuscular plane may not be associated with risk of infections that are not explicitly implant related (low SoE). There is insufficient evidence addressing the comparisons between prepectoral and partial submuscular and between partial and total submuscular planes. KQ 5: The evidence is inconsistent regarding whether human ADM use during IBR impacts physical well-being, psychosocial well-being, or satisfaction with breasts. However, ADM use probably increases the risk of implant failure/loss or need for explant surgery (moderate SoE) and may increase the risk of infections not explicitly implant related (low SoE). Whether or not ADM is used probably is associated with comparable risks of seroma and unplanned repeat surgeries for revision (moderate SoE for both), and possibly necrosis (low SoE). KQ 6: AR with either transverse rectus abdominis (TRAM) or deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps may result in comparable patient satisfaction with breasts (low SoE), but TRAM flaps probably increase the risk of harms to the area of flap harvest (moderate SoE). AR with either DIEP or latissimus dorsi flaps may result in comparable patient satisfaction with breasts (low SoE), but there is insufficient evidence regarding thromboembolic events and no evidence regarding other surgical complications. Conclusion. Evidence regarding surgical breast reconstruction options is largely insufficient or of only low or moderate SoE. New high-quality research is needed, especially for timing of IBR and AR in relation to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, for comparisons of implant materials, and for comparisons of anatomic planes of implant placement.
