A popular application that runs on a Voice-over-IP network is the Interactive Voice Response (IVR), which provides a way for interacting with an end user's phone via a telephony interface by presenting a set of audible menu options, and collecting the user's Dual Tone Multi-Frequency responses as the user presses the telephone numeric keypad, and recording the user's voice. This thesis takes a closer look into IVR systems on an IP-based network, specifically in networks that support the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for controlling the telephony signalling, and more specifically on IVR systems that have their SIP signalling controlled by a SIP Application Server (SIPAS) implementing the SipServlet 1.0 or 1.1 specifications and where a SIP-based Media Server is used to stream IVR media to the end-user. We describe existing ways for supporting an IVR development in a SIP network, and then we propose an alternative way of accomplishing the same task: the IVRObject. With the help of prototypes, the IVRObject is compared with the existing state of the art against three criteria: (a) how easy it is to develop, (b) how portable the development solution is, (c) and how scalable the solution is in order to sustain a high call volume. As a conclusion, it will be highlighted that the IVRObject provides an easy mechanism for development of IVR-based applications running on a SIPAS, that it is portable to different media server vendors, and that it supports a test strategy that can be leveraged to improve software development quality and faster development. This makes the IVRObject a good alternative especially for enterprise-based IVR applications where scalability is less of an issue than in carrier-space applications.

Mobile phones and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) applications are being progressively used in developing countries to collect voice-based reports about bad governance or poor public service delivery, reported by citizens. Such systems (e.g. Avaaj Otalo, Foroba Blon, etc.) can give an opportunity to rural users in developing countries to easily influence and participate in public affairs. Despite the ongoing efforts on using such solutions, the lack of an efficient system of administration can cause delays in broadcasting the collected reports as quickly as possible, to reach the relevant authorities. This thesis presents the results of a real-world deployment of an administrative functionality for an IVR system called U-Call, used in the Northern districts of Uganda. U-Call Administrative Functionality (UCAF) interacts with the U-Call administrators through mobile phones and gives the moderator access to the registered users. It allows administrators to easily publish and tag audio reports over the Web using their mobile phones. It also uses a semantic tagging module to increase findability and information categorization on the U-Call’s website. After an initial validation and successful evaluation of UCAF in the field, during a trip to Uganda, additional features were incorporated, such as multiple authentication process and dynamic tagging. Les systèmes vocaux interactifs (en anglais Interactive Voice Response : IVR) sont omniprésents de nos jours. IVR est une technologie de téléphonie qui permet aux utilisateurs d’accéder aux services offerts par un système d’information automatisé d’une entreprise via un clavier de téléphone ou des commandes vocales. L’infonuagique (en anglais Cloud Computing) est un nouveau paradigme qui par l’entremise de serveurs permet d’héberger et de fournir des services sur l'Internet avec de nombreux avantages inhérents. Il offre trois modèles de services majeurs: Infrastructure en tant que service (en anglais Infrastructure as a Service : IaaS), Plateforme en tant que service (en anglais Platform as a Service : PaaS) et Software en tant que service (en anglais Software as a Service : SaaS). L’infornuagique est basée sur la technologie de virtualisation qui permet la coexistence de différentes entités sur le même matériel physique. Ces entités peuvent être des systèmes partageant le même équipement matériel, des applications hébergées par le même système d’exploitation ou bien des réseaux complets partageant les mêmes routeurs. Le principal objectif visé par cette technologie est le partage efficace de ressources physiques. Plusieurs applications multimédias sont offertes aujourd’hui dans les environnements infonuagiques. Cependant, au meilleur de notre connaissance, il n’existe pas d’architecture qui crée et gère les applications IVR dans de tels environnements. Par conséquent, ce mémoire propose une nouvelle architecture permettant de créer à la volée et de gérer d’une manière efficace des applications IVR dans un environnement infonuagique. Il décrit une nouvelle architecture d’une infrastructure de virtualisation d’applications IVR et démontre son potentiel à travers un cas d’utilisation. Il propose deux stratégies de gestion de ressources et d’ordonnancement de tâches comme un part essentiel au partage des ressources dans une telle architecture.

The main goal of this project was to enhance the use and usability of Interactive Voice Response Systems (IVR) for older people. The objective of study one was to examine older people’s perceptions of the technology and identify the most common difficulties experienced by older people when interactive with IVR using focus groups. Twenty-six people aged 65 and older took part in the study. Data were analyzed using frequency and chi square analyses. The results revealed negative attitudes towards the technology. Long menus, frustration about not being able to reach an operator and absence of shortcuts were some of the most common difficulties reported by participants. Study two examined the cognitive factors predicting successful IVR interaction in four commercially available IVR systems in a sample of 185 older adults. Linear regressions were performed on the data. Results indicated that working memory and auditory memory were the best predictors of successful IVR interaction. Using the same sample of participants as study two, study three examined older adults’ attitudes towards the four IVR systems in relation to their success in interacting with the technology. The study also evaluated the impact of gender on success and attitudes towards IVR. There was a significant positive correlation between success with IVR and favorable attitudes towards the technology. No gender differences emerged in both performance on IVR tasks and attitudes towards the technology. Study four evaluated the feasibility of using a voice-activated IVR to administer and score three short neuropsychological tests using a sub sample of the original sample of 185 older adults involved in study two and three. One hundred and fifty eight participants took part in the study. Results showed high correlations between the IVR and clinician scoring of the three tests. Nevertheless, a number of discrepancies and technical issues were discovered.

This thesis aims to provide the thermal condition of melt pool convection by CFD simulation, which is important to the assessment of the invessel melt retention (IVR) strategy widely adopted in Generation III pressurized water reactors (PWRs). As a severe accident mitigation measure, the IVR strategy is realized through external cooling of the lower head of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV). To achieve the coolability and retention of the corium pool in the RPV lower head, the heat flux at the outer surface of the vessel should be less than the critical heat flux (CHF) of boiling around the lower head. Under such condition, the integrity of the RPV is guaranteed by the adequate thickness of the unmelted vessel wall. The thesis work starts from the selection and validation of a turbulence model in the CFD computational tool chosen (Fluent). Afterwards a numerical model is set up for estimation of melt pool heat transfer of a reference PWR with the power capacity of 1000 MWe, including a mesh sensitivity study. Based on the numerical model of a twolayer melt pool, four tasks are carried out to investigate the effects of Zr oxidation ratio, Fe content, and radiation emissivity on heat flux profiles, as well as the focus effect under extreme conditions. Selection and validation of the turbulence model are conducted by comparing the simulation results of different turbulence models with the DNS data on the convection of volumetrically heated fluid layer bounded by rigid isothermal horizontal walls at equal temperature. The internal Rayleigh numbers of the flow reach up to 10e6. The comparison shows a good agreement of the SST k-ω turbulence model results with the DNS data. The simulations with the Zr oxidation ratio of 0, 0.2 and 0.5, correspondingly, the oxide layer of 1.389m, 1.467m and 1.580m, and the metal layer of 0.705m, 0.646m and 0.561m in height, show that, the temperature of the oxide layer will increase with Zr oxidation ratio, while the temperature of the metal layer will decrease resulting in more heat transfer through the oxide layer sidewall and less top radiation. Nevertheless, the effect of the Zr oxidation ratio is not pronounced in the range of 00.5. The simulations with the Fe mass of 22t, 33t and 45t, and respective height of the metal layer of 0.462m, 0.568m and 0.646m, show that, the inner metal layer will significantly increase the temperatures of both the metal layer and the oxide layer. The percentage of heat transfer at the oxide layer sidewall will increase to supplement the reduction of that at the metal layer. The simulations with the radiation emissivity of 0.2, 0.35, 0.45 and 0.7 show that, the emissivity below 0.45 has an impact on heat transfer, and the temperatures and sidewall heat flux of both the oxide layer and the metal layer will increase with decreasing emissivity. The impact is negligible when the emissivity is above 0.45. The simulations under the hypothetically extreme conditions with either an adiabatic top boundary or a very thin metal layer show the focusing effect may occur, i.e., the heat flux through the metal sidewall is larger than that in the oxide layer. But the local high heat flux is flattened by the vessel wall with good heat conductivity. In summary, the simulations demonstrate that, except for the cases under extreme conditions, the heat fluxes of the melt pools in all other cases are significantly lower than the CHF of external cooling of the lower head. Therefore, the safety margin of the IVR strategy of the PWR chosen is seems sufficient. However, due to some limitations (e.g., simplification and assumptions) in the simulation cases and coupling of different influential factors, as indicated by the present study, the precise predictions of heat flux under all scenarios are still difficult. Therefore, the conclusions could not be generalized to the other conditions or other configurations of the molten pools. By discussing the model and simplifications/assumptions adopted in this work, the improvement directions of the numerical model and other perspectives are proposed at the end of the thesis. Denna avhandling syftar till att tillhandahålla det termiska tillståndet för smältbassängskonvektion genom CFD-simulering, vilket är viktigt för bedömningen av IVR-strategin som allmänt antagits i tryckvattenreaktorer (PWR) i Generation III. Som en åtgärd för att mildra allvarliga olyckor realiseras IVR-strategin genom extern kylning av det nedre huvudet av ett reaktortryckkärl (RPV). För att uppnå kylbarhet och kvarhållning av koriumbassängen i det nedre RPV-huvudet bör värmeflöde vid den yttre ytan av kärlet vara mindre än det kritiska värmeflödet (CHF) som kokar runt det nedre huvudet. Under sådant tillstånd garanteras RPV: s integritet av den osmälta kärlväggens tillräckliga tjocklek. Examensarbetet startar från valet och valideringen av en turbulensmodell i det valda CFD-beräkningsverktyget (Fluent). Därefter sätts en numerisk modell upp för uppskattning av smältbassängens värmeöverföring av en referens PWR med en effektkapacitet på 1000 MWe, inklusive en nätkänslighetsstudie. Baserat på den numeriska modellen för en tvålagers smältbassäng utförs fyra uppgifter för att undersöka effekterna av Zr-oxidationsförhållande, Fe-innehåll och strålningsemissivitet på värmeflödesprofiler, liksom fokuseffekten under extrema förhållanden. Val och validering av turbulensmodellen utförs genom att jämföra simuleringsresultaten för olika turbulensmodeller med DNS-data för konvektionen av volymetriskt uppvärmt fluidskikt avgränsat av styva isoterma horisontella väggar vid lika temperatur. De interna Rayleigh-siffrorna i flödet når upp till 10e6. Jämförelsen visar att SST k-ω turbulensmodellresultaten överensstämmer med DNS-data. Simuleringarna med Zr-oxidationsförhållandet 0, 0,2 och 0,5, motsvarande oxidskiktet på 1,389 m, 1,467 m och 1,580 m, och metallskiktet på 0,705 m, 0,664 m och 0,561 m i höjd, visar att temperaturen av oxidskiktet kommer att öka med Zr-oxidationsförhållandet, medan metallskiktets temperatur kommer att minska vilket resulterar i mer värmeöverföring genom oxidskiktets sidovägg och mindre toppstrålning. Simuleringarna under de hypotetiskt extrema förhållandena med antingen en adiabatisk övre gräns eller ett mycket tunt metallskikt visar att fokuseringseffekten kan uppstå, dvs. värmeflödet genom metallsidan är större än det i oxidskiktet. Men det lokala höga värmeflödet plattas ut av kärlväggen med god värmeledningsförmåga. Sammanfattningsvis visar simuleringarna att, förutom fall under extrema förhållanden, är värmeflödet från smältpoolerna i alla andra fall betydligt lägre än CHF för extern kylning av nedre huvudet. Därför verkar säkerhetsmarginalen för IVR-strategin för den valda PWR tillräcklig. På grund av vissa begränsningar (t.ex. förenkling och antaganden) i simuleringsfall och koppling av olika inflytelserika faktorer, vilket indikeras av den aktuella studien, är de exakta förutsägelserna av värmeflöde under alla scenarier fortfarande svåra. Därför kunde slutsatserna inte generaliseras till de andra förhållandena eller andra konfigurationer av de smälta poolerna. Genom att diskutera modellen och förenklingar / antaganden som antagits i detta arbete föreslås förbättringsriktningarna för den numeriska modellen och andra perspektiv i slutet av avhandlingen.

Many researchers and speech user interface practitioners assert that interactive voice response (IVR) menus must be relatively short due to constraints of the human memory system. These individuals commonly cite Miller's (1956) paper to support their claims. The current paper argues that these authors commonly misuse the information provided in Miller's paper and that hypotheses drawn from modern theories of working memory (e.g., Baddeley and Hitch, 1974) would lead to the opposite conclusion that reducing menu length by creating a greater number of menus and a deeper structure will actually be more demanding on users' working memories and will lead to poorer performance and poorer user satisfaction. The primary purpose of this series of experiments was to gain a greater understanding of the role of working memory in speech-enabled IVR use. The experiments also sought to determine whether theories of visual search and signal detection theory (SDT) could be used to predict auditory search behavior. Results of this experiment indicate that creating a deeper structure with shorter menus is detrimental to performance and satisfaction and more demanding of working memory resource. Further the experiment provides support for arguments developed from Macgregor, Lee, and Lam's dual criterion decision model and is a first step toward applying SDT to the IVR domain. The accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has shown us that there may be situations where the applied technology will not be able to successfully cool the reactor core. These situations may occur when more elements such as supply of energy to power the pumps and diesel generators are destroyed for example by tsunami or earthquake, or other not expected natural disasters. The inability of the residual heat removal leads to the melting of core, relocation to the bottom of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) and failure of RPV. Result of this accident may be containment failure and leakage of fission products into the environment. One way to prevent this scenario may be a passive system called IVR (In-Vessel Retention) by using external cooling of RPV that retains melted core in. This system counts with flooding of RPV´s shaft by water. After natural circulation of water provides the heat transfers from the wall of RPV. The applicability of IVR for VVER 1000 reactors is still in the course of research. However it´s already clear that the submersion of RPV shaft by water will not sufficient. Other elements as suitable insulation and RPV coating which provides a more intensive heat transfer from the walls of RPV will be needed.

Due to the rapid spread of mobile phones and coverage in the developing world, mobile phones are being increasingly used as a technology platform for developing-world applications. Data collection is one such application area, and a variety of software has been written to enable data collection over mobile phones. However, reaching the vast majority of mobile phone users without access to specialized software requires a data collection strategy that operates over IVR or SMS. We have developed ODK Voice, an IVR platform for delivering data collection protocols based on the XForms standard and targeted at users in the developing world. User testing of ODK Voice was performed both in controlled scenario experiments, and in a real-world deployment in Uganda. In controlled experiments in the United States, users were able to complete a complex survey with high accuracy. However, in a real-world deployment with teachers in rural Uganda lacking training or IVR experience, a number of significant interface modifications were required in order to achieve high success rates. The task success rate increased from near 0% to over 75% based on changes in interface design. Notably, most participants were not able to use a touchtone or touchtone-voice hybrid interface without prior training. Electronic data capture technologies, such as interactive voice response (IVR) systems, are emerging as important alternatives for collecting self-reported data. The purpose of this research was to assess the measurement equivalence between the original paper-based versions and the adapted interactive voice response (IVR) versions of the EQ-5D and the QLQ-C30. Furthermore, we examined the test-retest reliability of two consecutive administrations of the IVR versions of the EQ-5D and the QLQ-C30. The comparison of the paper and IVR versions of the EQ-5D was conducted utilizing a crossover design with subjects randomly assigned to one of two assessment orders: 1) paper then IVR or 2) IVR then paper. A convenience sample of in-treatment outpatient cancer clinic patients (n=139) were asked to complete each assessment two days apart. For the test-retest component, outpatient cancer clinic patients (n=127) were asked to complete the IVR-based EQ-5D twice, two days apart. The analyses tested for mean differences (paired t-test) and test-retest reliability (ICC).In the crossover analysis, ten of the fifteen mean differences analyzed for the scales and items of the QLQ-C30 were within the equivalence interval set a priori. The ICCs for the scales and items of the QLQ-C30 ranged from 0.698 to 0.899. Two of the items, insomnia and appetite loss, did not meet our threshold of being statistically different from an ICC of 0.70. The EQ-5D index score means were equivalent between paper and IVR, however the EQ VAS score differences were not wholly contained in the equivalence interval. The ICCs were above 0.890 for the index and the EQ VAS. In the test-retest analysis, the ICCs for the nine multi-item scales for the QLQ-C30 were all above 0.69, ranging from 0.698 to 0.891. Ten of the fifteen mean differences analyzed were within the equivalence interval set a priori. For the EQ-5D, the mean differences were wholly contained within the equivalence intervals for both the index and the EQ VAS and the ICCs were significantly different from 0.70. Overall, the IVR version of the questionnaires provided psychometrically equivalent results to those obtained on the original paper version and showed good stability over time.

Budování kontaktního centra je velmi rozsáhlou a komplexní problematikou. Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na aspekt efektivního využití dostupných technologií pro podporu procesů kontaktního centra (CC), především pak v bankovním sektoru. V práci je zpracován multidimenzionální model obslužnosti kontaktního centra zachycující procesní stránku řízení. Model obslužnosti je poté zasazen do kontextu současných technologií pro CC a výsledkem je model, který zachycuje vliv jednotlivých technologií na proces řízení interakcí. Tento model je v závěru teoretické části aplikován na podmínky bankovnictví. Součástí diplomové práce je i praktická (neveřejná) část, která aplikuje předchozí model na podmínky kontaktního centra společností GE Money v ČR a SR. Do kontextu modelu je zasazen vývoj kontaktního centra GE Money po vybrané období, začínající před zahájením a končící dokončením několika projektů, které byly během zpracování této práce ve fázi realizace. Tato konfrontace CC GE Money s modelem je pak výchozím bodem pro doporučení dalších kroků v budování a rozvoji tohoto CC.

Title: Artificial Intelligence in Customer Interactions: A Study on Customers' Perceptionsregarding IVR Services in the Banking Industry Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to explore consumer perspectives on automated IVRcustomer services. Design/methodology/approach: This research paper was conducted qualitatively, where theresearchers developed a framework and a suggested model based on existing research andcollected primary data from eight interviews with open-ended questions. The collected datawas coded so that the researchers could spot patterns in the responses which were thendiscussed in relation to previous studies. Based on the results of the data analysis thedeveloped model was also discussed and revised. Findings: The findings of this study suggest that consumers are skeptical towards IVRtelephone customer service and believe that the service quality would be lower than regulartelephone service. The findings do however show that consumers are willing to try to adjust tonew technology as long as there are alternatives if they are not satisfied. Research implications: Managers should focus on delivering quality service to all of theirconsumers and therefore need to consider how well their services can fulfill the needs of theirconsumers. If the quality of the technology cannot provide the service that is expected there isstill a need for regular telephone customer service or else the company might suffer in thelong run. Originality/value: This study is, to the best of our knowledge, the first to explore the topic ofcustomers perceptions of AI in customer service. My thesis deals with the design of an experimental emergency cooling device of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV). It consists of two parts, the theoretical one and practical one. Different molten corium cooling methods in terms of their efficiency and comparison are introduced in the theoretical part. The design of an experimental emergency cooling device, which incorporates a model channel past the reactor pressure vessel , is presented in the practical part. The cooling device consists of a model channel past the reactor pressure vessel, condensator, which takes away the heat generated by the reactor pressure vessel and the pump of a secondary loop. Next, thermal and hydraulic calculations are given in this section. The conclusion is devoted to the evaluation of particular cooling technologies and their comparison in terms of nuclear and technical safety.

Since the early 2000s, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) has become a widely popular method of conducting public opinion surveys in the United States. IVR surveys use an automated computer voice to ask survey questions and elicit responses in place of a live interviewer. Previous studies have shown that IVR polls conducted immediately before elections are generally accurate, but have raised questions as to their validity in other contexts. This study examines whether IVR polls generate measurably different levels of candidate support when compared to live interviewer polls, as a result of non-response bias owing to lower response rates in IVR surveys. It did so by comparing polling in 2010 U.S. gubernatorial and U.S. Senate elections that was conducted using both live interviewers and IVR. The findings suggest that in general elections, IVR polls find fewer undecided voters compared to surveys conducted using live interviewers. In primary elections, IVR polls can show larger support than live interview polls for a more ideologically extreme candidate who has high levels of support among more opinionated and engaged voters. Implications are that journalists and other consumers of polling data should take into account whether a poll was conducted using IVR or live interviewers when interpreting results. IVR polls may tend to over-sample more engaged and opinionated voters, often resulting in smaller percentages of undecided respondents, and higher levels of support for specific candidates in certain contexts. La simulation de l'interaction entre le laser et la molécule nécessite la connaissance du moment dipolaire de la molécule. Pour cela une surface de moment dipolaire a été calculée à l'aide de la théorie de fonctionnelle de densité DFT. Afin de choisir un chemin d'excitation sélectif d'un mode de vibration le spectre vibrationnel de ces deux molécules a été calculé à l'aide d'approches indépendantes du temps (Jacobi-Wilson Davidson) et dépendantes du temps (MCTDH). La simulation des expériences résolues en temps est effectué grâce à la méthode MCTDH. La compréhension des mécanismes d'IVR permet d'expliquer le comportement particulier de ces molécules observé expérimentalement This thesis presents a quantum study of intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution IVR in a HFCO or DFCO molecule intialy excited by an ultrashort laser pulse. The laser molecule interaction term requires the knowledge of the dipole moment. This work presents the calculation of the dipole moment surface with density functional theory DFT. In order to choose an excitation pathway to selectively excite a vibrational mode we calculated the vibrational spectrum of each molecule with time independent (Jacobi-Wilson and Davidson) and time dependent (MCTDH) approaches. Families migrate to improve their outcomes, however the process is very disruptive. My research asks and answers the question can scaffolding communication through technology mitigate the disruption caused to families by migration, and if so, how? In my work I have explored two forms of disruptive family migration—parental migration (where parents and children live in separate countries) and refugee resettlement (resulting from forced migration). In both forms, families are embedded in support networks of individuals they rely on to minimize vulnerabilities faced post-migration and to rebuild a stable family structure. My empirical results revealed barriers (distance, language, literacy and so forth) that render the communication between families and their support network less than effective. Through participatory approaches, I then design and evaluate separately, two systems to mitigate the barriers and improve communication in the various support networks. The end contributions of my work include: i) contributing a nascent agenda on migration for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and related fields through providing an increased understanding of the challenges that limit the livelihoods of migration-separated and refugee families; ii) demonstrating two communication scaffolding systems for transient use by migrants to mitigate communication barriers--- time and distance on one hand (to support transnational home-school communication) and language and literacy on the other (through mediated human-in-the-loop voice translations for everyday interactions with refugees); iii) putting forth a reflection on methods to guide others seeking to work with similar groups and establishing the notion of designing for transient use in the development of systems to scaffold communication.

Within the scientific view, one of the major problems related to simulations developed for Virtual Reality, more specifically in research, is mainly related to the poor development of interaction between the data being displayed in the database in which they are contained, combined with the difficulty of making everything directly accessible in virtual environment. In Digital Humanities, it becomes increasingly necessary to have an instrument capable of combining scientific visualization in Virtual Reality with the access and consultation of an open repository. The work done for this thesis is based on the creation of a heterogeneous relational database called ArcheoDB, run by an open web platform, on which researchers can upload 3D content and share them with their own collaborators. The web platform and the database are alongside an application called "ArcheoDB VR Toolkit" developed with Unity Engine, which dynamically loads contents within the ArcheoDB database and visualizes them in a complex scene. This application also provide a detailed reconstruction of the various objects, the background of the discovery and the chemical analyzes made in a highly immersive way, thanks to the use of immersive visualization. Likewise, in order for the application to be 3truly innovative, it must allow not only to display 3D data, but also to interact in real time with the displayed models, enabling to enrich and modify them, based on data consultation and metadata drawn from the database.

Ce contrôle consistait en la surveillance constante de leurs activités pendant leur charge, puis en une reddition de comptes qui leur était imposée à leur sortie de charge. A l'époque classique, ce contrôle n'est bien connu que dans la seule Athènes. Du IVe au Ier s. A. C. , la documentation épigraphique permet de prouver l'existence de ce contrôle dans la plupart des cités grecques. Il était le plus souvent exerce par une commission de magistrats contrôleurs. Par ailleurs, il était loisible à tout citoyen d'engager des poursuites contre les magistrats, ce qui assurait la participation des citoyens à ce contrôle. A la basse époque hellénistique, on constate une situation contrastée : le maintien de ce contrôle s'accompagne, dans certaines cités, de son allègement ou d'un changement dans les procédures, au détriment de la participation des citoyens ordinaires. L'enquête s'ouvre sur une étude historiographique qui permet de remettre en question les principes explicatifs traditionnels qui ont réduit la vie religieuse de l'Afrique romaine à une couche superficielle de romanité. Il est démontré ensuite grâce à l'épigraphie et à l'archéologie que l'organisation de la vie religieuse des cités se décline selon les valeurs et les modèles de la romanité. Les dieux définis et installés selon les modalités romaines portent la toge, se parent. A partir d'un recensement de 1149 représentations dionysiaques, on a mis en évidence la faible place que tenait Bacchus dans le panthéon gallo-romain entre le premier et le quatrième siècle de notre ère. Cette imagerie est introduite en Gaule dès la conquête de la provincia, au premier siècle avant notre ère. Sa large diffusion dans les provinces gauloises a été favorisée par les échanges économiques et sociaux assures par Rome et par les commerçants italiens, en particulier par les negotiatores vinarii. Pendant près de quatre siècles les gallo-romains reproduisent les épisodes du cycle dionysiaque par l'intermédiaire des techniques artisanales les plus variées, en restant fidèles aux schèmes iconographiques gréco-romains. La popularité de ces thèmes au deuxième siècle et leur survivance, s'expliquent par les liens indissociables qui s'étaient établis entre l'image de Bacchus - dieu du vin - et la prospérité des activités vinicoles en Gaule. Bien que présent dans la vie domestique, culturelle, politique, religieuse et funéraire des gallo-romains, Bacchus n'a pas suscité chez eux une grande ferveur religieuse. Seuls quelques hommes d'origine grecque, orientale ou bien danubienne ont eu foi en liber pater. Only a few people of Greek, oriental or danubian origin did worship liber pater. Omniprésente dans le monde grec, la stasis représente la part sombre de l’histoire de la cité. La tradition voit en elle un fléau, une maladie qui vient s’abattre sur elle. Elle est la guerre, polémos que la cité se livre à elle-même, c’est la division de l’un en deux. D’intensité variable, la stasis peut prendre une forme légalisée de conflit entre groupes politiques, du moment qu’elle ne vient pas entraver le fonctionnement des institutions et qu’elle ne divise pas la communauté en deux camps irréductibles. Ce n’est que dans les cas extrêmes, quand plus aucun compromis n’est possible qu’elle prend la forme d’une sédition. C’est à ce moment-clé, lorsque le conflit atteint son paroxysme, quand tout se fige et que la violence vient ensanglanter la cité, que nous avons consacré notre étude. Notre enquête couvre une période riche en séismes politiques allant du règne de Philippe II aux guerres de Mithridate. The theoretical cognizances from the first part of my thesis are applied to the conditions of this contact center in the practical part of it. The topic of my thesis is, on the example of contact center CitiPhone, to show activities, which contact center perform, to point out its critical parts and assess its current position. The assessment of activities of contact center CitiPhone is substantiated by graphs and results from period under consideration, which is first half of the year 2008.

Ce travail se propose d'étudier les relations entre la Bohême et la Gaule du IVe au Ier s. av. J.-C., principalement à partir d'une reprise de la documentation antérieure, issue de l'histoire de la recherche et de travaux monographiques concernant des types d'objets particuliers. Un corpus de 61 types d'artefacts, représentant 230 individus a ainsi pu être établi, constituant autant de " marqueurs de contacts " entre ces deux régions. Ces marqueurs permettent de mettre en avant une dynamique dans les contacts, à la fois au niveau chronologique et spatial. Le rôle de certains sites (Stradonice, Manching) ou de certaines régions (Suisse, Rhin-Moselle) est ainsi souligné. L'analyse des données qualitatives et quantitatives est complétée par des recherches sur les formes de contacts qui peuvent être envisagées (échanges, migrations, etc.). Cette deuxième phase du processus d'analyse a permis de mettre en avant un certain nombre de difficultés méthodologiques, démontrant ainsi que les données archéologiques seules sont nécessaires mais non suffisantes pour répondre à ces questions.

Cette thèse entend reconsidérer la notion de purgatoire telle qu'elle a été établie et utilisée par les historiens de la fin du XXe siècle ; démontrer que le purgatoire ainsi redéfini peut être identifié dans certains écrits du christianisme ancien, qui n'ont toutefois pas tous été reconnus par l'Église majoritaire ; documenter ce purgatoire et le situer dans son contexte historique, littéraire et religieux.Le corpus considéré comprend les sources bibliques à l'origine de l'imaginaire du purgatoire mises en regard d'écrits contemporains, ainsi que des textes rédigés en Afrique du Nord et en Égypte entre les IIe et IVe siècles, en latin, grec ou copte. Les écrits retenus permettent d'apprécier les différences de doctrines entre le christianisme de l'église majoritaire et une religiosité plus marginale, mais cultivant des références communes.

Dans le sud de la péninsule Arabique, l'irrigation est pratiquée depuis le IVe millénaire avant J. -C. De nombreuses techniques de captage de l'eau ont été mises au point localement ou adoptées précocement : terrasse, déviation des crues des wâdî-s et galeries drainantes souterraines. Au cours du Ier millénaire avant l'ère chrétienne, certaines oasis atteignent une taille considérable, plusieurs milliers d'hectares. Il s'agit ici avant tout de mener une étude technique des systèmes d'irrigation d'Arabie méridionale, des origines à l'avènement de l'Islam. Nous nous intéressons à l'organisation générale des oasis (lorsque celle-ci est connue) et au fonctionnement des ouvrages hydrauliques. Dans un deuxième temps, nous analysons la répartition spatiale des techniques au cours des quatre derniers millénaires avant l'arrivée de l'Islam. Puis nous essayons d'en comprendre les raisons (contraintes environnementales ? Choix humains?). Les vestiges sont ensuite replacés dans leur contexte social, c'est-à-dire rattachés à des méthodes de gestion de l'eau. La pratique de l'irrigation nécessite en effet la coopération des paysans qui doivent s'organiser pour, d'une part, construire et entretenir les ouvrages hydrauliques et, d'autre part, répartir l'eau. Elle influence ainsi l'organisation des sociétés. L'objectif est de comprendre et comparer les différents modes de gestion de l'eau employés dans la péninsule Arabique.

Il s'agit principalement d'une étude typologique des céramiques à vernis noir - y compris les productions à pâte grise et de Gnathia - découvertes dans la Basilicate du Nord-Est (Italie). Environ huit cents formes reconstituables, publiées et inédites, ont été insérées dans la typologie conçue par J. P. Morel, en tenant compte de tous les critères distinctifs de chaque groupe (catégories, genres, espèces, séries). On a aussi essayé de définir l'aire de production et de diffusion et la chronologie des vases catalogués. Dans la troisième partie quelques réflexions sur les procédés de fabrication, les aspects commerciaux, l'usage des vases, les problèmes d'influences et d'imitation ont été proposées. L'étude typologique est précédée par le cadre historique de l'aire concernée à l'époque considérée (IVe-Ier s. Av. J. -C. ) qui a été tracé en utilisant les textes antiques, littéraires et épigraphiques, et les résultats des recherches archéologiques.

Cette thèse traite des données funéraires (fouilles archéologiques, monuments funéraires) recueillies sur le territoire des trois cités de l'axe mosellan, à savoir celles des Leuques, des Médiomatriques et des Trévires. Le premier chapitre est en large partie consacré à l'historiographie du sujet, ainsi qu'aux orientations actuelles de la recherche sur la mort durant l'Antiquité : il consiste notamment en une présentation critique des principales grilles de lecture habituellement employées pour interpréter les données funéraires. Il y est également question des principaux problèmes que posent ces données, en particulier celui de leur datation. Les trois chapitres suivants s'inscrivent dans une perspective diachronique ; ils traitent de l'évolution de la sépulture mosellane depuis la veille de la conquête césarienne de la Gaule au règne de Claude (chap. 2), depuis le milieu du Ier s. jusqu'au milieu du IIIe s. (chap. 3) et enfin durant l'Antiquité tardive (chap. 4). Les deux chapitres suivants constituent des études de cas, centrées sur la question de la « romanisation » : il s'agit essentiellement de s'interroger sur la validité de ce concept. Le cinquième chapitre a ainsi pour sujet les nécropoles des communautés du piémont du massif vosgien ; le sixième chapitre aborde quant à lui la question du traitement funéraire des enfants décédés en bas âge. Enfin, le dernier chapitre est consacré aux nombreux monumenta antiques inscrits et/ou sculptés exhumés dans les pays de Moselle This thesis deals with the funerary data (archeological digs, funerary monuments) that were collected in the territory of the three cities of the Moselle valley, i.e. the city of the Leuci, that of the Mediomatrici and that of the Treveri. The first chapter is mostly concerned with the relevant historiography as well as the latest orientations of research on death in antiquity : it includes in particular a critical review of the main approaches that have been used to interpret funerary data. It also examines the main problem posed by such data, especially when it comes to matters of dating. The next three chapters look at things from a diachronic point of view : they deal with the evolution of burial places in the Moselle region, from the eve of Caesar's conquest of Gaul to Claudius's reign (chapter 2), from the middle of the 1st century to the middle of the 3rd century (chapter 3), and during the latter period of antiquity. The next two chapters are case-studies and concentrate on the problem of «romanisation » : the main point is to try and determine just how valid the concept is. Chapter 5 focuses on the metropoles of the communities that used to live in the foothills of the Vosges, while chapter 6 is concerned with the funeral treatment of children who died in infancy. Depuis la théorie du « théâtre-amphithéâtre » jusqu’au renouveau de l’étude de ces édifices de spectacle par Françoise Dumasy, les théâtres de Gaule romaine ont toujours été étudiés en fonction du modèle « latin » proposé par Vitruve dans le de Architectura. Plusieurs raisons ont souvent été évoquées pour expliquer les formes particulières des théâtres dits « gallo-romains ». L’objectif de cette thèse n’est pas de proposer une définition définitive de ce qu’était le théâtre en Gaule romaine, de fait trop peu sont encore fouillés pour proposer une synthèse générale. Toutefois, à travers l’étude régionale des théâtres du nord-ouest des Gaules, il est possible d’entrevoir l’un des instants les plus intéressants de l’adaptation du théâtre romain dans ce qui a souvent été considéré comme une région éloignée de l’Empire The « Gallo-roman theatre » has always been a sensitive subject among french archaeologists. Since Albert Grenier’s theory on the « theatre-amphitheatre » to Françoise Dumasy and the renewal of studies about roman entertainement buildings, roman theatres in Gaul have always been considered as different buildings compared to the classical theater pattern suggested by Vitruvius in his de Architectura. Many different reasons were frequently mentioned to explain the particular forms of « Gallo-roman theatres ». The intended purpose of this PhD is not to give a definitive definition of what roman theatres in Gaul could be -in fact, too few of them were excavated. Un inventaire de 2361 éléments de sculpture non-architecturale découverts chez les Éduens a mis en évidence des concentrations au nord du territoire de cité, dans des zones riches en calcaires de qualité et ouvertes aux apports des cités gallo-romaines septentrionales. On en sait aussi plus sur la chaîne opératoire de la pierre, de l'extraction en carrière à l'abandon de l'objet. L'approvisionnement en pierre était surtout local, mais n'excluait pas des transports sur de longues distances. Les sculpteurs ont élaboré des manières de faire libérées des contraintes du matériau. On a aussi identifié des spécificités, comme une iconographie éduenne particulière, notamment dans les stèles funéraires, ainsi qu'un certain désintérêt pour les portraits. Désormais, il est possible d'aborder l'artisanat de la pierre de façon macroscopique dans la civitas éduenne, en raisonnant sur les questions géographiques, techniques, iconographiques et stylistiques. Le croisement des données issues de ces quatre grands dossiers a permis de reconnaître et de caractériser 33 ateliers et 50 sculpteurs isolés, actifs du Ier s. au début du IVe s. de notre ère. Si la sculpture sur pierre se développe à partir du règne des Flaviens, elle atteint un sommet dans la deuxième moitié du IIe s. avant de chuter au siècle suivant. Dans le territoire éduen, l'artisanat de la pierre n'est pas circonscrit aux villes, et des ateliers de qualité ont œuvré à l'échelle de pagi, de sanctuaires ou de petites agglomérations. Enfin, plusieurs liens entre les ateliers ont été identifiés, montrant des traditions locales, des compétitions entre sculpteurs, des systèmes d'emprunts, de transmissions et d'affiliations Achieving an inventory of 2361 non-architectural stone sculptures discovered in the civitas Aeduorum, a distribution map shows that most of these can be found in the northern part of the civitas. There, the sandstone is of the utmost quality, thus explaining this specific concentration. The same area has clearly received influences from the northern civitates. We now know more about the operational chain of stone, from the quarry to the abandon of the sculpted artifact. Stone supply was mostly local, but some long distance transports have been seen. Sculptors have elaborated a craft where the material was no longer a constraint. Some specificities have been put to light, such as a peculiar iconography, especially when it comes to tombstones, and a neglect for portraits. Henceforth, we can discuss stone-craft in this civitas from a macroscopic perspective. This allows an analysis of the spatial distribution as well as new data regarding ancient techniques, iconography and style. Combining those points has led to the identification of 33 workshops and 50 isolated sculptors, active from the Ist century CE to the IVth century. Stone sculpture has mostly developed during the Flavian dynasty, reached its peak during the second half of the IInd century CE before a downfall in the IIIrd century. In the Aedui civitas, stone-carving is not an urban phenomenon, and some high-skilled workshops were active in several pagi, sanctuaries and small settlements. In the end, links between the workshops have been found : they reveal local traditions, competition between sculptors, influences and affiliations

Le développement de l’archéologie agraire et de l’exploration des parties économiques des établissements ruraux de Gaule romaine permet aujourd’hui de proposer une synthèse sur l’instrumentum fundi ; l’équipement des domaines.À partir de 140 sites archéologiques fouillés dans le nord de la Gaule, 1600 équipements mobiliers (outils) et immobiliers (infrastructure et bâtiments) ont été inventoriés.L’identification récurrente de greniers, granges ou encore sonnailles, faucilles et faux offre l’image d’une économie d’abord tournée vers les activités agropastorales. Toutefois, les activités qualifiées généralement d’artisanales sont également bien présentes à travers des équipements comme les fours de tuiliers, les marteaux, les ciseaux, etc. Ces activités participent à l’entretien et au fonctionnement du domaine mais dépasse parfois ce cadre, pour envisager alors de véritables productions.L’étude de certains équipements tel que les fosses à fumier, les moulins hydrauliques ou encore le vallus permet de démontrer un investissement des domaines dans des installations et des outils performants que l’on peut dans certains cas qualifier d’innovations. Ces observations permettent de s’éloigner un peu plus de certains poncifs parfois encore en vigueur concernant une économie autarcique et stagnante, freinée par un certain retard technique et par l’esclavage.L’identification et la caractérisation des équipements renvoient à l’inverse l’image d’une économie plus ouverte, associant des acteurs différents mais qui emploient à leur échelle des infrastructures et outils efficaces The development of agrarian archaeology and the exploration of the economic parts of the rural settlements in Roman Gaul allows today to propose a synthesis on the instrumentum fundi ; the equipment of agricutltural field.From 140 archeological sites of Roman Gaul, 1600 tools and economic buildings were inventoried.The recurring identification of granaries, barns or cowbells, sickles and hammer offers the image of an economy at first turned to the agropastorales activities. However, the craft activities are also present through equipments as tile makers' ovens, hammers, scissors, etc. These activities participate in the maintenance and in the functioning of the domain but sometimes exceed this frame, to envisage a real economic productions.The study of equipments such as manure pits, water mills or the vallus allows to demonstrate an investment of domains in installations and successful tools which we can qualify in certain cases as innovations. These observations allow to go away a little more certain pouncing patterns still current concerning an autarkic and stagnant economy, slowed down by a certain technical delay and by a slavery.The identification and the characterization of equipments send back on the contrary the image of a more open economy, associating different actors who use on their scale of infrastructures and effective tools

Le culte de Mithra a achevé de s’installer dans l’Empire romain au IIIe siècle. Il a prospéré dans une période de mutation des pratiques religieuses. En dispensant par initiation un accès à ses rites, en appliquant des épreuves théâtralisées de progression, en imposant le secret et en provoquant une expérience relationnelle avec son dieu, sa proposition religieuse s’inscrivait dans la phénoménologie des mystères antiques. Mithra a été reçu en territoire romain et dans les provinces occidentales de l’Empire par des hommes d’horizons géographiques et ethniques variés, mais réunis par des caractères communs quant à leur niveau social et culturel. Les mobiles qui les ont attiré ont pu être l’attrait d’un réseau communautaire, la recherche d’une valorisation existentielle dans ce réseau interactif, l’accès à une initiation spirituelle dans un contexte culturel avancé ou peut-être la curiosité. Les expressions initiatiques transcrites par les mithraea symbolisent la libération de l’individu dans le monde, sans prôner de remise en question de la structure sociale. Même s’il est demeuré au rang des cultes privés ou étrangers dans le système impérial, avec un dieu d’origine orientale, mais plutôt mis en scène sous une forme orientalisée, avec une structure mystérique grecque et une éthique stoïcienne, il résulte de cette recherche qu’on doit considérer le culte de Mithra en Occident sous l’angle réceptif d’un culte romain, mais avec déjà, dans cette époque de transformation une forte propension à l’universalité The worship of Mithra finished settling down in the Roman Empire in the IIIth century. He prospered for a period of transfer of the religious practices. By dispensing by initiation an access to its rites, by applying theatralized tests of progress, by imposing the secret and by causing a relational experience with his god, his religious proposal joined the phenomenology of the antique mysteries. Mithra was received on Roman territory and in the western provinces of the Empire by men of varied geographical and ethnic horizons, but gathered by common characters as for their social and cultural standing. The motives which attracted them were able to be the attraction of a community network, the search for an existential valuation in this interactive network, the access to a spiritual initiation in an advanced cultural context or maybe the curiosity. The initiatory expressions transcribed by mithraea symbolize the liberation of the individual in the world, without advocating of questioning of the social order. Even if it lived to the rank of private or foreign cults in the imperial system, with a god of oriental origin, but rather staged under an orientalized shape, with a Greek mystical structure and a Stoic ethic, it results from this research that we have to consider the cult of Mithra in the West under the susceptible angle of a Roman cult, but with already, in this period of transformation, a strong propensity in the universality

Cette étude est composée de trois catalogues où l'on a rassemblé la majeure partie des sources écrites iconographiques et archéologiques concernant les installations commerciales temporaires et permanentes. On a retrouvé le vocabulaire utilisé par les Anciens et on a établi une nomenclature moderne. On a suivi l'évolution des installations commerciale de l'époque géométrique au IVe siècle av. J. -C. L'étude des installations temporaires a demontré leur importance et nous a renseignés sur les produits qui y étaient mis en vente. Les installations permanentes ont été classées par catégories ; on a également étudié les produits qui y étaient vendus ainsi que la répartition de ces installations dans les villes, là où la documentation disponible le permettait. On s'est aussi intéressé au statut juridique des installations temporaires et permanentes ; on a essayé de retrouver leurs propriétaires et de voir comment elles étaient gérées This study is composed by three catalogues containing the majority of the written and archaeological sources, as well as the iconography concerning the permanent and temporary commercial installations. We have also looked for the vocabulary used by the Ancient Greeks and have established a modern terminology. We have followed the evolution of the commercial installations from the geometric period to the fourth century B. C. The study of the temporary installations has revealed their importance and has brought us information on the product that were being sold. The permanent installations have been classified by category. We have also studied the product that were being sold and the distribution of these installations in the cities, where the sources available enabled us to do so. L'autore analizza il sistema UE dell'IVA precisamente nei profili dei suoi principi fondamentali, nella disciplina delle prestazioni di servizi, nel sistema del rimborso dell'imposta negli scambi sovranazionali, nelle frodi comunitarie. Si conclude sottolineando le criticità attuali dell'IVA e illustrando le possibili evoluzioni tenuto conto che la crisi finanziaria attuale ha posto dinanzi a una duplice sfida di politica economica: promuovere la crescita sostenibile consolidando al tempo stesso le finanze pubbliche e, ovviamente, le politiche tributarie costituiscono uno strumento come sempre fondamentale a tal fine. Si rileva quindi la necessità di riservare maggiore attenzione alla concezione e alla struttura dei sistemi tributari e in particolare al sistema IVA, per renderli più efficienti, efficaci e soprattutto più equi dando concretezza ai valori solidaristici che ispirarono il Trattato di Roma del 1957 e ancor prima la nostra Carta Costituzionale.

L'étude des pratiques cultuelles féminines dans l'Italie antique constitue un domaine attrayant depuis une vingtaine d'années. Cela dit, alors que les lieux de culte présents sur le sol de Rome forment des terrains d'investigation très privilégiés avec l'avantage d'une documentation littéraire, ceux des cités des régions alentours, telles que le Latium et l'Étrurie, seulement connus à travers l'analyse de certaines catégories d'offrandes, le sont beaucoup moins. Or, entre le IVe siècle av. J.-C. et le Ier siècle apr. J.-C., la façon de demander l'aide divine se précise grâce à l'emploi d'offrandes plus spécialisées : les ex-voto anatomiques et les figures anthropomorphes. Ce travail se propose donc d'utiliser à bon escient celles mises au jour dans les aires sacrées du Latium et de l'Étrurie méridionale et de les compléter par des témoignages littéraires afin de reconstituer des pratiques cultuelles qui auraient pu être effectuées par les femmes en leur sein. À la lumière de vestiges archéologiques impliquant la sphère féminine, il s'agit véritablement de reconsidérer le rapport que les femmes entretenaient avec la religion tout autant que leur participation à la vie de leur communauté. Dépassant les préjugés véhiculés par des sources partiales, masculines et tardives faisant état de personnes dont la nature les rendait incapables de composer avec la religion, c'est une nouvelle vision des femmes que nous proposons de réviser The study of female cultural practices in Ancient Italy has been an attractive area for the last twenty years. Although places of worship, present in Roma, have been really privileged themes with the advantage of literary materials, those of cities of surrounding areas, such as the Latium and the Etruria, only famous through the analysis of some offering types, are much less. However, between the fourth century B.C. and the first century A.D., the way to ask for the divine help is becoming clearer, thanks to the use of more specialized offerings: the anatomical ex-voto and the anthropomorphic figures. This works intends to use, in the right way, those discovered in the sacred areas of the Latium and the southern Etruria and to complete it with the literary testimonies, so as to re-build cultural practices that could have been done by women on their own. In the light of archaeological remains, implying the female sphere, it is about to really re-think the relation that women maintained with the religion, as well as their participation in their communities. Going beyond prejudices inherited by biased and ancient sources as well as male world; considering persons whose nature made them incapable of coping with the religion; it is a new vision of women that we intend to review
