Streszczenie:
AbstractWe have constructed a computer controlled telescope using a 0.36-m f/11 Celestron optical tube assembly for teaching and research applications. We have constructed a heavy duty fork-type equatorial mount fitted with precision machined 24 inch drive disks for both axes. These are friction driven by stepper motors through one inch rollers. We have used an open loop control system triggerable by an ST-4 CCD camera to acquire and track any target object. Our telescope can home in on any target within a range of two arc-minutes. We have employed a commercial stepper motor controller card for which we have written a user friendly pc based telescope control software in C. Photometry using a solid state photometer, and imaging by an ST-6 CCD camera are possible. We consider that this project is suitable for those wishing to construct some parts of a telescope and understand the principles of operation. A simpler model of this telescope could use DC motors instead of stepper motors. We shall be happy to send our design diagrams and details to those interested. This project was funded by the DST, and was assisted by IUCAA, Pune.

Streszczenie:
A programme for the surface photometry of bright galaxies has been underway at the Rozhen Observatory since 1991. In a series of papers we shall explore the optical morphology, photometric properties and some peculiarities suggestive of galaxy-galaxy interactions of the bright galaxies NGC 2976, NGC 3031, NGC 3034 and NGC 3077 in the M 81 group. Most of the plates were taken with the 2 m Rozhen Ritchey-Chrétien telescope, but at our disposal there are plates from the 6 m BTA and 2 m Tautenburg Schmidt telescope. Here we discuss some preliminary results for the optical morphology on the basis of two B-plates from the 2 m Tautenburg Schmidt telescope. It shows the edge-on like face of NGC 2976, the grand-designed spiral structure of NGC 3031 and the filament-jet peculiarities in NGC 3034 and NGC 3077.

Streszczenie:
ABSTRACT We present photometric light curves of the stellar occultation event of the star UCAC4 341-187633 on 2018 August 15 by the minor planet (134340) Pluto. Photometric observations were carried out using the 2.1-m telescope at the San Pedro Mártir Observatory and the 1.3-m telescopes at Sites 2 and 3 of the Trans-Neptunian Automated Occultation Survey (TAOS II) project, and using a portable 0.4-m telescope from Bahía Asunción, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Different filters were used with the 2.1-m telescope and the TAOS II telescopes, whilst observations with the portable system were performed with no filter. The resulting light curves from the San Pedro Mártir Observatory show clear structures, with at least two bright spikes observed on ingress and one more observed on egress as the star traverses the atmosphere of the dwarf planet. The light curve from the portable telescope (440 km away) measured a longer duration for the occultation event, because the shadow of Pluto was observed at a lower latitude. Normalized light curves were created for the 2.1-m telescope, the Site 3 telescope of the TAOS II and the portable telescope. These normalized light curves show a difference in amplitude.

Streszczenie:
AbstractAbsolute gravity measurements taken on a near-weekly basis at a single location is a rarity. Twelve years of data at the UK’s Space Geodesy Facility (SGF) provides evidence to show that the application of results from international comparisons of absolute gravimeters should be applied to data and are critical to the interpretation of theSGF gravity time series of data from 2007 to 2019. Though residual biases in the data are seen. The SGF time series comprises near weekly data, with exceptions for manufacturer services and participation in international instrument comparisons. Each data set comprises hourly data taken over 1 day, with between 100 and 200 drops per hour. Environmental modelling indicates that the annual groundwater variation at SGFof some 2 m influences the gravity data by 3.1 μGal, based upon some measured and estimated soil parameters. The soil parameters were also used in the calculation of the effect of an additional telescope dome, built above the gravity laboratory, and have been shown to be realistic. Sited in close proximity to the long-established satellite laser ranging (SLR) system and the global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) the absolute gravimetry (AG) measurements provide a complimentary geodetic technique, which is non space-based. The SLR-derived height time series provides an independent measurement of vertical motion at the site which may be used to assess the AG results, which are impacted by ground motion as well as mass changes above and below the instruments.

Streszczenie:
At the last OSA annual meeting, I showed how the coma of a classical Cassegrain telescope can be fixed by adding a very weak meniscus lens next to the secondary mirror. The mirrors were not touched, so the design could be used with or without the lens in place. The distinctly less popular classical Gregorian telescope has a parabolic primary mirror and an elliptical concave secondary. This paper is about a simple way to fix both the coma and astigmatism of the Gregorian, again in such a way that the design can be used with or without the “fix” in place. Here, however, the “fix” is very small—a fraction of the secondary diameter. A small single lens is all that is added, in one version. A slightly more complex all-reflective component, equally small, is added in a different version. Performance numbers are given for a 2-m aperture example, with an f/1.5 primary mirror.

Streszczenie:
A new optical system with a 1.5-m diam telescope was designed and constructed in the CRL. The distinctive feature of the new telescope system is its flexibility as well as its capability for fast and accurate tracking. The system is flexible, that is, applicable to multiple studies. These are (1) satellite tracking (including geostationary satellites), (2) space optical communication, (3) laser ranging, (4) astronomy (IR/ visible), (5) laser radar, and (6) radiometry (remote sensing of planetary atmospheres). There are many foci, i.e., Nasmith (two), bent-Cassegrain (two), Cassegrain (usually not used due to tertiary mirror installation), and coude (instrument selection is avail able in four directions). Azimuth/elevation encoder resolution is 0.0001° and fast tracking (up to Az 15°/sec, El 5°/sec) is possible. The subsystems which have been integrated include a high sensitivity CCD camera and an image intensification tube camera for spacecraft tracking, point- ahead/fine-tracking assembly for space optical communication, 110-mJ/70-ps Nd:YAG laser for satellite ranging, 124 × 124 element IR camera and FT spectrometer for astronomy, and several CO2 and isotope lasers as well as heterodyne receiver for lidar and radiometer.
