The 64-bit Intel® Itanium® architecture is designed for high-performance scientific and enterprise computing, and the Itanium processor is its first silicon implementation. Features such as extensive arithmetic support, predication, speculation, and explicit parallelism can be used to provide a sound infrastructure for supercomputing. A large number of high-performance computer companies are offering Itanium® -based systems, some capable of peak performance exceeding 50 GFLOPS. In this paper we give an overview of the most relevant architectural features and provide illustrations of how these features are used in both low-level and high-level support for scientific and engineering computing, including transcendental functions and linear algebra kernels.

Nowadays high-performance computing (HPC) architectures are designed to resolve assorted sophisticated scientific as well as engineering problems across an ever intensifying number of HPC and professional workloads. Application and computation of key trigonometric functions sine and cosine are in all spheres of our daily life, yet fairly time consuming task in high-performance numerical simulations. In this paper, we have delivered a detailed deliberation of how the micro-architecture of single-core Itanium® and Alpha 21264/21364 processors as well as the manual optimization techniques improve the computing performance of several mathematical functions. On describing the detailed algorithm and its execution pattern on the processor, we have confirmed that the processor micro-architecture side by side manual optimization techniques ameliorate computing performance significantly as compared to not only the standard math library's built-in functions with compiler optimizing options but also Intel® Itanium® library's highly optimized mathematical functions.

With tribasic sodium phosphate (Na3PO4) as electrolytic liquid, to adopt micro-arc oxidation (MAO) prepares titanium oxide films directly on the titanium net surface. In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 films prepared by micro-arc oxidation, the titanium oxide films were treated by Sulphuric acid aqueous. The structures before and after surface acid treatment were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX,and photocatalytic ability of titanium oxide coatings were evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of acid brilliant scarlet dye aqueous solution . It was found out that the titanium oxide films were mainly made of titanium and anatase. The sodium at titanium dioxide/itanium (TiO2/Ti) film surface was reduced after the Sulphuric acid treatment. The photocatalytic activity of the titanium oxide films were enhanced after Sulphuric acid treatment. When Sulphuric acidaqueous concentration is 0.1mol•L-1 and soak time is 18 hours, the TiO2/Ti films photocatalytic degradation rate increased from 15% to 31%.

Abstract The main objective of this study was to make a corpus-based comparison between two English translations of the Holy Quran in terms of metadiscourse features application and distribution. For this purpose, two English translations of the Holy Quran by Itani (2012) and Yousef Ali (1992) were selected as the corpus of the study. For the theoretical framework, the model of metadiscourse features proposed by Hyland (2005) was utilized. In order to check the distribution of metadiscourse features, Sketch Engine corpus software was used. The quantitative analysis of the data revealed that interactive metadiscourse features were higher in frequency than the interactional ones. Also, it was observed that within the interactive metadiscourse features, transitions were the most frequent type as compared with hedges which were the most frequent among the interactional ones. Finally, while in Yousef Ali’s translation, interactive metadiscourse features were the main trend, in Itani’s translation, the interactional metadiscourse features were the dominant attribute. The findings of this study have useful implications for researchers in translation as well as contrastive and corpus-based studies.

A total of 214 stomachs of Clarias gariepinus, Centropomus undecimalis and C. parallelus from the Itanhém and Caravelas Rivers, northeastern Brazil, were analyzed to investigate the impact of the non-native species Clarias gariepinus on the Itanhém River food web as compared to that of the adjacent Caravelas River, where this species has not been registered. In Itanhém River, shrimp was the most important food for C. gariepinus, and Teleostei for C. parallelus. In the Caravelas River, Brachyura was the main food item for C. parallelus, and Teleostei for C. undecimalis. There was no food overlap between the species within or between rivers. There is no evidence, in the results of this study, of changes in the diet of the Centropomus parallelus due to the presence of the non-native species.

O presente artigo aborda dois sítios no sul da Bahia: Pedreira, escavado dentro de um projeto de contrato e Água Vermelha, alvo de um salvamento pontual de urnas funerárias. A partir de uma breve revisão de dados das fases Itanhém/Itaúnas da tradição Aratu, o contexto de ambos os sítios é usado para discutir as características da cultura material. Como resultado, considera-se que os conjuntos cerâmicos em tela podem ser entendidos como uma mescla entre elementos da tradição Aratu e Tupi, encontro que teria gerado a fase Itanhém / Itaúnas.

A bacia do rio Itanhém é responsável pelo abastecimento de água dos municípios de Medeiros Neto e Teixeira de Freitas no Extremo Sul baiano, e recebe inúmeras cargas de efluentes domésticos e industriais, que comprometem a qualidade de suas águas. Portanto, objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar a qualidade da água, identificar os grupos de poluição ou contaminação além de evidenciar possíveis impactos causados pelo uso e ocupação do solo no trecho do rio Itanhém entre Medeiros Neto e Teixeira de Freitas. Foram realizadas 12 coletas mensais entre 08/2018 e 07/2019, em oito pontos do rio para avaliar a qualidade da água em pontos próximos a aglomerações urbanas, com lançamentos de efluentes com carga orgânica, que contribuem para a deterioração da qualidade da água, e em pontos distantes das zonas urbanas, afastados dos despejos de efluentes. Foi utilizando uma sonda multiparamétrica HI9829 HANNA® para leituras realizadas in loco, para valores de potencial de oxirredução, OD (oxigênio dissolvido), pH, salinidade, temperatura, condutividade e STD (sólidos totais dissolvidos). Também foram obtidos em laboratório os parâmetros: Amônia, Nitrito, Nitrato, DBO e CT (coliformes termotolerantes). Com dados de uso e ocupação do solo, cedidos pelo Fórum Florestal do Extremo Sul da Bahia, foi possível verificar as atividades desenvolvidas dentro da bacia hidrográfica e os impactos gerados por estas. Verificou-se que, nos pontos mais próximos aos lançamentos de efluentes, a qualidade da água apresentou-se em desconformidade com a resolução CONAMA 357/2005 para os indicadores CT, OD e a DBO, enquanto, nos pontos mais afastados dos despejos, esses mesmos indicadores se enquadraram na referida resolução ou aproximaram dos valores aceitáveis para corpos de água de classe 2, o indicando a capacidade autodepurativa do rio Itanhém. Water quality diagnosis of the Itanhém river water between municipalities of Medeiros Neto and Teixeira de Freitas, BahiaA B S T R A C TThe Itanhém river basin is responsible for the water supply of the municipalities of Medeiros Neto and Teixeira de Freitas in the far south of Bahia, Brazil and receives numerous loads of domestic and industrial effluents, which compromise the quality of its waters. Therefore, the aim’s work was to evaluate water quality, identify the groups of pollution or contamination and show possible impacts caused by land use and occupation on the Itanhém River stretch between Medeiros Neto and Teixeira de Freitas. Twelve monthly collections were carried out between 2018/08 to 2019/07, in eight points of the river to evaluate the water quality in points near urban agglomerations, with discharges of effluents with organic load, which contribute to the deterioration of water quality, and at points distant from urban areas, away from effluent discharges. A HI9829 HANNA® multiparameter probe was used for on-site readings for oxireduction potential, DO (dissolved oxygen), pH, salinity, temperature, conductivity and TDS (total dissolved solids). The following parameters were also obtained in the laboratory: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Dynamics) and TC (thermotolerant coliforms). With data on land use and occupation, from the Far South Bahia Forest Forum, it was possible to verify the activities developed within the watershed and the impacts generated by them. It was found that, at the points closest to the discharge of effluents, the water quality was not in compliance with CONAMA resolution 357/2005 for the CT, OD and DBO indicators, with average values for CT (arranged in log) 4.46, 3.35, 3.19 and 3.43 respectively for points P2, p5, P7 and P8, while at the most distant points of the discharges, The same indicators fit the resolution or approached the acceptable values for class 2 water bodies (CONAMA 357/2005), indicating the self-purifying capacity of the Itanhém river.

The digital elevation model (DEM) is crucial for various applications, such as land management and flood planning, as it reflects the actual topographic characteristic on the Earth’s surface. However, it is quite a challenge to acquire the high-quality DEM, as it is very time-consuming, costly, and often confidential. This paper explores a DEM improvement scheme using an artificial neural network (ANN) that could improve the German Aerospace’s TanDEM-X (12 m resolution). The ANN was first trained in Nice, France, with a high spatial resolution surveyed DEM (1 m) and then applied on a faraway city, Singapore, for validation. In the ANN training, Sentinel-2 and TanDEM-X data of the Nice area were used as the input data, while the ground truth observation data of Nice were used as the target data. The applicability of iTanDEM-X was finally conducted at a different site in Singapore. The trained iTanDEM-X shows a significant reduction in the root mean square error of 43.6% in Singapore. It was also found that the improvement for different land covers (e.g., vegetation and built-up areas) ranges from 20 to 65%. The paper also demonstrated the application of the trained ANN on Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where the ground truth data are not available; for cases such as this, a visual comparison with Google satellite imagery was then utilized. The DEM from iTanDEM-X with 10 m resolution categorically shows much clearer land shapes (particularly the roads and buildings).

The intense rainfall equations present a great technical interest for hydraulic works projects. In the State of Bahia, there are only 19 equations of intensity, duration and frequency modeling, requiring a greater number of equations for the State. The most recent ones are almost 15 years old, with only two in the Peruípe, Itanhém and Jucuruçu river basins. Thus, the objective of this work was to determine the parameters of the equations of intensity, duration and frequency (IDF) of the rainfall stations for different locations of the basins of the Peruípe, Itanhém and Jucuruçu rivers, located in the far southern Bahia State. Initially, 59 stations were selected, out of which only those with over 20 year-old data and records from 1980 onwards. Rainfall disaggregation was carried out using the method proposed by Cetesb (Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo, Brazil) and the parameters (K, a, b and c) were adjusted through nonlinear multiple regression using the nonlinear-generalized reduced gradient interaction method, where adjustment was evaluated by the coefficient of determination (R2). In the end, 29 equations were adjusted, with coefficient of determination greater than 0.99, therefore, improving the perspective of planning hydraulic works in the region. This correlation could also be observed by the regression equation of the observed data with the adjusted ones, where the slope coefficient of the line was close to 1.0 for all rainfall stations.

O uso inadequado dos solos pode provocar erosão e assoreamento dos cursos d’água reduzindo assim a quantidade e a qualidade da água na bacia. A implantação de práticas conservacionistas de solo e a presença de vegetação nativa são ações de fundamental importância para a conservação do solo e água na bacia, uma vez que elas atuam diminuindo o escoamento superfcial da água e os processos erosivos. Dessa forma, este estudo teve como objetivo desenvolver um mapa de áreas prioritárias para conservação do solo e da água na bacia hidrográfca do Itanguá, Capão Bonito - SP, com base na caracterização do uso e cobertura do solo e declive da bacia e defnir áreas com alta necessidade de implementação de práticas de conservação. Para a elaboração dos mapas temáticos, os planos de informação de uso e cobertura da terra e declividade do terreno foram combinados pelo método booleano em um sistema de informação geográfca. A partir da análise dos dados foram encontradas nove diferentes classes de prioridade para implantação de práticas conservacionistas e seis classes de prioridade para a restauração florestal na área de preservação permanente. Áreas com estrada de terra em região de maior declividade foram identifcadas como áreas prioritárias para conservação, inclusive em área de preservação permanente ao longo dos cursos d’água da bacia. O estudo proporciona a primeira avaliação do uso e cobertura da terra no nível da bacia para a Floresta Nacional de Capão Bonito e fornece uma base para identifcar prioridades de conservação em toda a bacia de Itanguá.

Identificar as fontes geradoras de metano são importantes nas ações mitigadoras, principalmente de origem antrópicas. Nesse trabalho foi observado as emissões de metano em duas áreas distintas, uma com baixo impacto antrópico e outra com elevada atividade industrial. Foi utilizado um espectrômetro de cavidade ressonante (CRDS) para analisar as concentrações de metano durante os meses de junho e julho/2019 na cidade de Itanhém e nos meses de setembro, Outubro e Janeiro de 2019 na cidade Cubatão.

O processo de modificação da paisagem através da retirada da vegetação nativa para a implantação de atividade antrópicas acarreta alterações no comportamento hidrológico de uma bacia hidrográfica. Diante disso, este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a influência da alteração do uso e ocupação do solo na disponibilidade hídrica das bacias hidrográficas dos rios Peruípe, Itanhém e Jucuruçu, no período de 1990 a 2018. Para tanto, utilizou-se dados das séries históricas das estações fluviométricas localizadas nas áreas de drenagem das bacias, importadas do portal HidroWeb da Agência Nacional de Águas e Saneamento Básico (ANA). A partir destas, foram obtidas as variáveis hidrológicas anuais: vazão máxima, vazão média e mínima. Já os dados de uso e ocupação do solo foram cedidos pelo Fórum Florestal do Extremo Sul da Bahia e estes passaram por processamento no software QGIS, onde foram obtidas as áreas de cada classe de uso e ocupação do solo. Posteriormente, fez-se a associação dos dados através de análise quantitativa executada no software SAS, onde foram obtidas as correlações simples entre as variáveis. As formas de uso do solo nas bacias hidrográficas estudadas passaram por significativa redução das áreas de vegetação nativa em virtude do crescimento das áreas de atividades antrópicas, principalmente as destinadas a pecuária e silvicultura. A análise de correlação demonstrou que a expansão dessas áreas tem influenciado a diminuição das vazões mínimas. Em contrapartida, apesar da diminuição significativa das áreas de vegetação nativa, os remanescentes florestais continuam atuando na redução das vazões máximas e aumento das vazões mínimas. In this article we utilize a developmental perspective as a metric for the comparison of bilingual language ability. In particular, we utilize Processabilty Theory (Pienemann, 1998a, 2005) which provides a psycholinguistic metric for developmental schedules of any given language. We demonstrate this approach to the cross-linguistic measurement of language development on the basis of Itani-Adams’ (2007) study of bilingual (Japanese—English) first language acquisition.
