Abstract Halal certification introduces a new discursive and material basis for the regulation of Muslim consumption in a world of global trade and complex food technology. Through chemical tests and state of the art supply chain management the halal certification industry aims to replace the necessity of intra-Muslim trade for the practice of halal. This paper presents the approach of two competing halal certification organizations in South Africa in interaction with Muslim businesses. It argues that the aim of the halal certification industry to standardize, trace and trade in halal is limited by the communal practice of halal that emphasizes intra-Muslim trade and exchange. Halal certification is an incomplete recalibration of halal. Attention to Muslim business practices illuminates the limitation of audit cultures to the practice of halal, offering a view of the complexity of halal in practice.

This study included both guidance tools and learning cases that were used to explore the entry potential of newly graduated science and technology teachers (NQSTTs). Using a semi-experimental model, the study took 106 NQSTTs, an experimental group (N = 54) and a control group (N = 52), which were subjected to a three-month Professional Certification (PQE) test program. Instruments such as the Science Performance Test (SAT), the Technology Performance Test (TAT), the Integrated Science, Technology and Society Test (ISTST) and microlearning were used to measure the entry capacity of NQSTT. All exams contained versions of the best test and test and were presented to both groups at the start of the study and at the end of the study. Significant changes in the initial ability of the teacher were detected by repeated measurements on ANOVA tests performed for each test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the teachers' initial entry capacity was relatively better than expected, probably due to the type of teacher they were prepared for. It is hoped that these findings will help to show interesting differences in the programs designed to prepare teachers for certification/ admission. The didactic effects on science and technology education are discussed.

Background and Objectives: Racial/ethnic score disparities on standardized tests are well documented. Such differences on the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) certification examination have not been previously reported. If such differences exist, it could be due to differences in knowledge at the beginning of residency or due to variations in the rate of knowledge acquisition during residency. Our objective was to examine the residents’ mean initial scores and score trajectories using the In-Training Examination (ITE) and certification examination. Methods: A total of 17,275 certification candidates from 2014 to 2019 were included in this study. Annual ITE scores and certification examination scores are reported on the same scale and serve as the outcome. We conducted multilevel longitudinal regression to determine initial knowledge and growth in knowledge acquisition during residency by race/ethnicity categories. Results: The mean postgraduate year 1 (PGY-1) ITE score was 393.3, with minority residents scoring 16.2 to 36.0 points lower compared to White residents. The mean increase per year in exam performance from PGY-1 ITE to the certification exam was 39.9 points (95% CI, 38.7, 41.1) with additional change among race/ethnicity categories per year of -3.2 to 1.9 points. Conclusions: This study found that there were initial score disparities across race/ethnicity groups in PGY-1, and these disparities continued at the same rate throughout residency training, suggesting equality in acquisition of knowledge during family medicine residency training but with a persistent gap throughout training.

Over the past decade, interpreter certification performance testing has gained momentum. Certification tests often involve high stakes, since they can play an important role in regulating access to professional practice and serve to provide a measure of professional competence for end users. The decision to award certification is based on inferences from candidates’ test scores about their knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as their interpreting performance in a given target domain. To justify the appropriateness of score-based inferences and actions, test developers need to provide evidence that the test is valid and reliable through a process of test validation. However, there is little evidence that test qualities are systematically evaluated in interpreter certification testing. In an attempt to address this problem, this paper proposes a theoretical argument-based validation framework for interpreter certification performance tests so as to guide testers in carrying out systematic validation research. Before presenting the framework, validity theory is reviewed, and an examination of the argument-based approach to validation is provided. A validity argument for interpreter tests is then proposed, with hypothesized validity evidence. Examples of evidence are drawn from relevant empirical work, where available. Gaps in the available evidence are highlighted and suggestions for research are made.

Purpose: Bloomberg Certification is valuable for business students to include on their resumes when searching for jobs. This research note examines the impact of temporality on Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) students’ Bloomberg Certification performance during COVID. Methodology: We use data from 2020 and 2021 SVSU students regarding performance on Bloomberg Certification tests. In order for a student to receive Bloomberg Certification, all four modules of the Core Concepts section of the test must be passed (Economic Indicators, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities). Controlling for gender, intrinsic motivation, and attempt, we compare 2020 and 2021 SVSU student performance on Bloomberg Certification exams. Findings: The study finds evidence that 2021 students were more successful in attaining Bloomberg Certification than 2020 students. COVID vaccines were available on SVSU’s campus starting in January of 2021. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy and Practice: This research note provides evidence that SVSU finance students adjusted well to the COVID pandemic.

Several observers have argued that one reason for higher union density in Canada than in the United States is that union certification procedures are considerably less time-consuming in Canada. This study tests that claim through an analysis of data on employer unfair labor practices and the outcome of union certification applications in Ontario from 1982 through 1990. The author finds that employer unfair labor practices reduced union support in certification campaigns in Ontario, but their effect is far less significant than that found in studies of the certification process in the United States.

Two binder technician workshops were held in January 1998, one at the Connecticut Advanced Pavement Laboratory at the University of Connecticut and one at the Northeast Center of Excellence for Paving Technology at Pennsylvania State University. These workshops were followed by a second set in 1999. The overall objective was to improve the repeatability of the test methods used to grade Superpave® asphalt binders. During the workshops, participants demonstrated and discussed the techniques used in their own laboratories. A document, Manual of Practice for Testing Asphalt Binders in Accordance with the Superpave PG Grading System, was developed for use by asphalt binder technicians and as a training aid for a proposed binder technician certification program. The results of the discussions that were held during the workshops and the items that are presented in the manual of practice are summarized. The results were grouped into four main categories: ( a) handling, sampling, and sample preparation; ( b) temperature measurements; ( c) equipment calibration; and ( d) testing procedures. The items discussed here and in the manual of practice supplement and clarify the current AASHTO test methods. The test methods in themselves are not sufficient to ensure uniformity in testing practice from one laboratory to the other.

Introduction. The article presents the results of a study of foreign, national and interstate regulatory documents that regulate the requirements for the stability of technical means of fire automation and automation of fire protection systems to mechanical and climatic influences of the environmental factors. Purpose and objectives. The purpose of the study is a comparative analysis of foreign and domestic experience in the development of regulatory documents for certification testing of technical means of fire automatics, taking into account their possible operation in various conditions and manifestations of the external environment. The objective of the study is to determine the methods for testing the performance of technical means of fire automatics under various external influences as part of the creation of a test base for reference laboratories provided for by the federal project "Systemic measures for the development of international cooperation and exports". Methods. The study applied the methods of apperception, axiomatic and descriptive analysis of literary sources (standards) in the field of testing fire detection and alarm systems. Research results. On the basis of a comparative analysis of foreign, national and interstate standards, the experience of developing test methods for fire detection and alarm systems for various types of environmental factors. Conclusions. In a comparative comparison, the test methods used in foreign and domestic practice for fire detection and alarm systems differ from each other both in the intensity of the tests themselves and in the types of simulating external influences, including exposure time, which is longer in foreign methods than in national and interstate ones. So, during certification foreign tests, the product is subjected to the full scope of tests once after the product is put into mass production and appears on the market. In Russian practice, the product is tested once every five years in full. Keywords: fire automatics; certification tests; external impact; mechanical and climatic factors; reference laboratory.

This study explores Korean college students’ perceptions of the practicality of the Chomsky’s theory, focusing on generative grammar. Over 60 years the acknowledgement of the theory has been so firm in Korea that it has been the test range of the syntax section of the English Teacher Certification Examinations. This study investigates the students’ perceptions of the practical use of phrase structure(PS) rules and tree diagrams. There were 30 participants of the survey on their perceptions of tree diagram practice and its practicality. They also took two TOEIC L/C tests, one before tree diagram practice and the other after the practice. The results show that there is little difference between the two means of the TOEIC tests. In the survey results, the participants gave a positive reaction to the usefulness of tree diagram practice in the degrees of understanding the English structure and English sentences, and the utilization of chunking practice. These results indicate that the strong points of a theory strongly affect the participants’ perceptions of the practicality of the theory.

While student populations are growing, the gatekeeping devices of teacher certification examinations prevent many who want and are trained to teach from entering the profession. If failing these exams predicted failure to teach well, blocking students who do not pass certification exams from entering the profession might be a well-reasoned policy. However, many studies indicate that there is little correlation between certification test scores and quality of teaching. The present study investigated the effectiveness of a program to improve the scores of Texas elementary preservice teachers on a required certification exam. The program consisted of one-on-one coaching of preservice teachers upon the completion of coursework and prior to their taking the state's certification exam. Subjects' scores on a representative form of the certification test were used as pre-treatment measures. The content of the treatment program was individualized for each subject and determined by the specific items missed by each subject on the representative form. The post-treatment measure was the subject's score on the certification exam. Scores on the representative form and on the certification examination were compared to determine if there were significant differences between scores of preservice teachers who had been coached and those who were not coached. Since subjects voluntarily enrolled in the treatment, initial differences between coached and uncoached groups were controlled through analysis of covariance and pairwise matching. Descriptive statistics, t-tests for dependent samples, repeated measures analysis of variance, and univariate analyses of variance and covariance all indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the scores on the certification test of coached and uncoached students. Coached students showed greater improvement in scores than uncoached, with Hispanic subjects showing greater improvement than Caucasian subjects. Analyses that examined the differences between the coached and uncoached subjects on the domain and competency scores that make up the raw scores failed to indicate the sources of the differences in raw scores.

The purpose of this work was to calculate and to test different aircraft components according to the CS-LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) airworthiness for Shark s.r.o. Shark was designed to fit into European ultralight category and it was approved according to the UL-2 Czech Republic requirement of Light Aircraft Association and LTF-UL German requirement for “Sport Flying Vehicles”. In the design phase were considered also the ASTM standards for Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) valid in USA and accepted by European regulation CS-LSA. The maximum take-off weight will be increased from 472.5 kg up to 600 kg. Most of the tests needed for proof and approval were performed for calculated load according to ASTM standards, but some only up to limited load corresponding to maximum take-off weight equal to 472.5 kg. The goal of the project was to go through the Shark s.r.o documents and to check the compliancy with CS-LSA regulation. The center of gravity position was calculated starting from the prototype and new flight envelope was designed for calculation of the limit load afterwards. New tests were realized on the flaps, fixing points of the ballistic rescue system and on the landing gear. The tests were performed in Shark aero facility in Senica (Slovakia) under the supervision of Eng. Vladimír Pekár. The data collected during multiple tests were used for preliminary design of Mako - new aerobatic aircraft for pilot training.

O aumento da demanda mundial por fontes alternativas de energia tem evidenciado o Brasil como ator relevante no mercado internacional, em função de seu histórico e capacidade produtiva de etanol. Porém, apesar de ser um mercado promissor e de alto interesse, também é um mercado bastante exigente em relação às questões ambientais que englobam seu sistema produtivo. O marketing ambiental se apresenta como uma ferramenta importante para garantir ao mercado consumidor de que essas questões ambientais estão sendo bem geridas. Entretanto, muitos são os questionamentos quanto ao que está sendo comunicado. Entre as principais formas de se aumentar credibilidade do processo de marketing ambiental, apresenta-se a utilização de certificações socioambientais. Assim, esta pesquisa se propôs a analisar as principais iniciativas de certificações socioambientais para o etanol brasileiro à luz do marketing ambiental. Por meio de entrevistas com 14 especialistas envolvidos com a questão do mercado internacional de biocombustíveis, produção de etanol e sustentabilidade, foi possível formar um padrão de análise das certificações, composto pelos: princípios de boas práticas para certificações socioambientais, demandas ambientais do mercado consumidor e critérios ambientais intrínsecos do sistema produtivo de etanol. A partir desse padrão, foram analisadas as principais iniciativas de certificação, que apontaram um melhor desempenho das iniciativas Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels e Better Sugarcane Initiative para dar credibilidade para o processo de marketing ambiental do etanol brasileiro.
The increase of global demand for alternative energy sources has made Brazil an important player in the international market, due to its history and ethanol´s production capacity. However, despite being a promising and highly interesting market, it is also a very demanding market in consideration to the environmental issues that include their production system. The environmental marketing presents itself as an important tool to ensure the consumer market that these environmental issues are being well managed. Meanwhile, there are many questions about what is being communicated. Among the main ways for increasing environmental marketing´s process credibility, there is a social environmental certification. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the main social environmental certification initiatives for the Brazilian ethanol through the eyes of environmental marketing. Through interviews with 14 experts involved with the international market for biofuels, ethanol production and sustainability, it was possible to form an analysis\' standard of certifications, formed by: principles of good practices for social environmental certification, environmental demands of the consumer market and environmental criteria intrinsic ethanol production system. According to this standard, we analyzed the main certification initiatives that pointed to a better performance of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels initiatives and Better Sugarcane Initiative to provide credibility to the process of environmental marketing of Brazilian ethanol.

En raison du rôle économique prédominant des innovations, les industriels spécialisés en équipements sportifs n'ont pas cessé de proposer de nouveaux produits. Afin d'éviter les travers de l'innovation marketing, le Centre de Test et de Recherche (direction Technique de Décathlon) et le Groupe Technosport (Université de Bordeaux 2) ont souhaité mettre en place une démarche d'élaboration des tests d'usage des équipements sportifs individuels. Ces tests sont, au final, les seuls garants de l'efficacité technique de l'équipement lors de son utilisation. Pour élaborer cette démarche, six études traitant du confort thermique, de la liberté de mouvement, de la protection aux chocs et de la diminution de la fatigue ont été réalisées. Ce retour d'expérience a permis d'obtenir quatre arbres décisionnels pour élaborer les protocoles de tests : la démarché globale, le choix des sujets, l'analyse sensorielle et l'analyse physiologique. L'application de ces derniers devrait améliorer et uniformiser les tests d'usage des équipements sportifs individuels
Manufacturers continue to propose innovations because of the prevailing economic role of the new sports equipments. In order to avoid brand marketing innovation shortcoming, the Test and Research Centre (Technical Direction of Decathlon) and the Technosport Group (University of Bordeaux 2) had the will to establish a wear test procedure for individual sports equipments. Finally, these tests are the only surety for technical effectiveness of the equipment during their utilization. To elaborate this procedure, six tests have been carried out related to thermic comfort, liberty of movement, shock protection and exertion decrease. The feed back of these experiments has enabled us to create four portocols : the global procedure, the choice of the subjects and sensorial and physiological analysis. The application of these protocls should improve and standardize the wear tests for individuel sports equipments

The subjective nature of oral examinations often lead to reliability estimates that are lower than other types of examinations (i.e., written examinations). The potentially biasing individual attributes of examiners (i.e., experience) are of particular concern since the oral examination process depends specifically upon the quality of their assessments. In addition, traditional reliability estimation procedures are not always possible for some oral exams due to the utilization of incomplete measurement designs (i.e., one examiner per candidate) resulting from the inherent high costs and complicated logistics associated with large scale oral examinations. Consequently, the current study attempts to evaluate the quality of one such exam by developing alternative indicators of exam quality using a pre-existing data set. A series of examiner agreement variables were calculated for low, moderate, and high ability candidates and subsequently correlated with each other. A series of exploratory multiple regressions were also used to evaluate the potential impact of several examiner characteristics (experience, gender, specialty, variance of scale use, and fail rate) confined in the data set. Finally, a generalizability (G) study was conducted on a subset of the examination that utilizes a complete measurement design (i.e., two examiners evaluating the same candidate, and all examiners examine all candidates) for lower ability candidates. The G study was then followed by a decision (D) study to determine both the current level of dependability with two examiners, and how much the dependability of the process would improve by adding mure examiners. The results of the current study suggest that evaluating lower ability candidates is different and more difficult than evaluating higher ability candidates. Furthermore, systematic sources of error related to examiners appears to be less or a concern than previously anticipated. Finally, the results of the G-D studies suggest that the current dependability of evaluating lower ability candidates with two examiners could be greatly improved by adding additional examiners to the process.

Ces travaux de thèse s'inscrivent dans le contexte de la validation et vérification de logiciels numériques dans pour la certification aéronautique. Dans cette thèse, nous proposons une solution de génération automatique de tests numériques fiables qui respectent les règles de développement imposées par le processus de certification. Les tests, composés de stimulations associées à un comportement attendu, sont ainsi générés à partir d'une spécification du comportement fonctionnel du logiciel. Valider le logiciel par le test revient à lui donner les stimulations en entrée et comparer le résultat obtenu (binaire) au comportement déterminé à l'aide de la spécification fonctionnelle (décimal). La solution proposée utilise la programmation par contraintes (numériques) et une méthode combinatoire de résolution en domaine continu (intervalles) pour construire un pavage de l'espace réalisable par des boîtes intérieures (ne contenant que des solutions) et des boîtes frontières englobant généralement la frontière de la zone réalisable. This work is done in the context of the validation and verification of numerical software for aircraft certification. In this thesis we develop an automatic generator of relaiable numerical test, according to the development rules mandated by the certification process. The tests, composed of stimulations associated with an expected behavior, are thus generated from a specification of the functional behavior of the software. Validation by test of the software means that given the simultations are inputs of the software, we compare the obtained result (binary) with the expected behavior identified using the functional specification (decimal). This work uses Constraint Programming (numerical constraints) and a combinatorial method of continuous domain resolution (intervals) to construct a paving of the feasible set by inner boxes (containing only solutions) and outer boxes encompassing the boundary of the feasible region. All tests are then developed using the Mutation Testing on constraints, which evaluates the quality of the current test campaign and adds new tests if needed. Conversions between binary and decimal formats are inevitable and introduce computational errors which can impact the reliability of test results. We strengthen our solution through the development and use of reliable arithmetic (multi-precision decimal interval arithmetic and binary/decimal mixed-radix arithmetic)

In response to a growing teacher shortage, increasing numbers of secondary teachers are prepared through streamlined certification programs. For this reason, assessing candidates' content area knowledge gained from institutions of higher education across the United States is an important program admission factor as candidates must demonstrate content area knowledge by passing a Texas content area certification test (TExES). This study examines content knowledge for candidates enrolled in an online post-baccalaureate program from September 1, 2002 through April 30, 2005. Academic transcript analysis and grades 8-12 subject tests of the TExES were used as a proxy for subject matter knowledge for a sample of individuals seeking initial teacher certification in a post-baccalaureate teacher certification at the University of North Texas. Descriptive data,linear regression, and logistic regression analyses were used to draw conclusions about the content area knowledge of the individuals in the sample. Scores on the TExES were used to determine the relationships between the content area knowledge of initial certification students and the number of content area courses completed, the grade point averages, and time elapsed between the completion of the last content area course and the student's initial attempt on the TExES. Results differed by the content area of the candidates. Analysis of variance results indicate significant differences between the five test groups with regard to number of courses taken F(4,139) = 9.334, p < .001 grade point average F(4,139) = 5.733, p < .001 and time between the last course taken F(4,139) = 6.135, p < .001. The three-predictor model was statistically significant F(3,32) = 3.753, p = .02 for the History test group. The variable, upper-level grade point average accounted for approximately 12% variance among scores within the History test group, and the variable months of time elapsed between last content area course work and the initial state content examination accounted for approximately 13% of variance among scores.

Interpreter certification has been largely ignored by the literature in Interpreting Studies. What little research that does exist on the topic is understandably elementary, discussing concerns that are general in nature or describing the development of individual certification instruments. No research has as yet examined the psychometric properties of certification instruments, despite the urgings of legal precedent, the weight of professional opinion, and the requirements of professional standards. The present study has attempted to bridge this gap in two ways. First, to gain some sense of the current state of affairs in interpreter testing, a validation study of an existing certification test was conducted. Particular attention was paid to information about the test's constructs. Second, in a bid to improve construct validity, a new certification test was constructed and subsequently validated. Constructs in the new test were based on a discursive model of the interpreting process. Validation of the two tests revealed some interesting findings. Constructs in the existing test bore only a weak relationship to the interpreting profession. Also, the constructs did not prove to be useful in predicting relationships among the existing test scores. It was expected that three separate constructs would emerge from the data; instead, empirical evidence suggested that the data were unidimensional in nature. In contrast, constructs in the new test were strongly linked to the interpreting profession. They also proved to effectively predict relationships among the new test scores. It was expected that three separate constructs would emerge from the data, and empirical evidence suggested that this was, in fact, the case. The results of the present study indicate that there is room for improvement in the current state of interpreter testing, and that a test instrument based on discursive constructs is likely to demonstrate acceptable levels of validity. There is obviously a need for a great deal of future research on the psychometric aspects of interpreter certification, and it is strongly recommended that this research adopt a discursive approach.

The purpose of this study was to explore the application of learning contracts in the process of preparing to take the AT BOC exam. The goal of this study was to investigate best practices to assist students in being successful when taking the BOC certification examination. Self-directed learning in medicine was an important skill in the ever-changing healthcare landscape. One self-directed learning tool, learning contracts, had been studied in other healthcare fields. However, little research had been conducted utilizing learning contracts in athletic training. In addition, providing students with a research based instrument that could be used to improve success on the BOC examination would positively impact the profession of athletic training. Therefore, a mixed methods research study was implemented to study the usefulness of learning contracts in the preparation for the BOC examination. The data produced in the study showed that athletic training students were self-directed learners and that learning contracts were a useful tool when preparing for the BOC examination. Along with the Self-Assessment Exams (SAEs) produced by BOC, Inc., learning contracts were shown to be useful in helping students diagnose learning needs as well as creating a plan to study. Based on the outcomes of this study the researcher recommends that athletic training students, and athletic training programs, implement the use of learning contracts when preparing for the BOC examination. The researcher also recommends that students strongly consider using SAEs to diagnose learning needs or gaps.

Abstract Model testing of offshore structures has been standard practice over the years and is often recommended in guidelines and required in certification rules. The standard objectives for model testing are final concept verification, where it is recommended to model the system as closely as possible, and numerical code calibration. Model testing of floating offshore wind turbines is complex due to the response depending on the aero-hydro-servo-elastic system, but also due to difficulties to perform model tests in a hydrodynamic facility with correctly scaled hydrodynamic, aerodynamic and inertial loads. The main limitations are due to the Froude-Reynolds scaling incompatibility, and the wind generation. An approach to solve these issues is by use of hybrid testing where the system is divided in a numerical and a physical substructure, interacting in real-time with each other. Depending on the objectives of the model tests, parts of a physical model of a FOWT can then be placed in a wind tunnel or an ocean basin, where the rest of the system is simulated. In the EU H2020 LIFES50+ project, hybrid model tests were performed in the wind tunnel at Politecnico di Milano, as well as in the ocean basin at SINTEF Ocean. The model tests in the wind tunnel were performed with a physical wind turbine positioned on top of a 6DOF position-controlled actuator, while the hydrodynamic loads and the motions of the support structure were simulated in real-time. For the tests in the ocean basin, a physical floater with tower subject to waves and current was used, while the simulated rotor loads were applied on the model by use of a force actuation system. The tests in both facilities are compared and recommendations on how to combine testing methodologies in an optimal way are discussed.

Abstract Objectives/Scope Over the years, FRP Grating has provided significant weight reduction and cost savings on many projects contributing to the success of offshore oil and gas projects. However, the use of other structural FRP products such as FRP handrails, ladders, tertiary structures offshore has been held back by the lack of similar rules and guidance. The objective of this project was to devise proposed guidance for a Type Approval of FRP handrails in fire integrity applications. Methods, Procedures, Process The FRP Industry Group (IG) promoted the extended use of existing FRP Products into new applications and locations offshore. Taking into account the life cost cycle concept connected safely operation, in January 2019, the Industry Group began the development of a Fire Integrity Matrix for FRP handrails offshore. The IG recognized that the Structural Fire Integrity Matrix format of the FRP Grating had over the years been widely adopted and therefore decided to adopt a similar structural Fire Integrity Matrix for FRP handrails. Heat flux and duration requirements for the R0, R3, R2 and R1 performance levels were then proposed, based on industry practice. The FRP handrail Fire Integrity Matrix sets out a series of fire integrity tests which give performance data for owners/engineers to use in risk assessments. Results, Observations, Conclusions An FRP handrail product was subsequently subjected to the Fire Integrity Matrix tests by recognized laboratory certified by a classification society. The tests were followed by IG and found to meet all the test requirements. The data was subsequently assessed by Classification Society and the product was awarded a new Type Approval allowing, for the first time, use in fire integrity applications offshore. Novel/Additive Information The work by the Industry Group in devising the Fire Integrity Matrix for FRP handrails is a highly significant step forward for the extended use of FRP offshore, with classification society approval.

The paper presents the IEC system for certification according to standards related to transformers for use in renewable energy applications IEC Renewable Energy System. Conformity assessment and certification of the main electrical equipment, including transformers, is by the Renewable Energy CB scheme. Evaluation methods and procedures used for design and production evaluation are given as part of the type certification. The required documentation, evaluation method and procedure, production assessment, reporting, quality assurance and quality control, legal regulations are listed. Requirements for transformers for wind farms according to standards and rules of good practice are also given. Deals with a current and important topic concerning the certification of energy transformers for wind farms as a measure to ensure their quality. In addition to the specific operating conditions and characteristics of transformers for wind power plants, an overview of regulations, directives and requirements that transformers must fulfill in order to be connected to the power transmission network is given. The quality of inspection and test plan, the basic principles of realization of reception control, measurement and evaluation of the quality of electricity of wind generators connected to the grid are presented. Issues of the lifetime of transformers for wind power plants were also addressed.

Title 10 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations Part 71 for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (10 CFR Part 71.73[1]) requires that Type B radioactive material (RAM) packages satisfy certain Hypothetical Accident Conditions (HAC) thermal design requirements to ensure package safety during accidental fire conditions. Compliance with thermal design requirements can be met by prototype tests, analyses only or a combination of tests and analyses. Normally, it is impractical to meet all the HAC using tests only and the analytical methods are too complex due to the multi-physics non-linear nature of the fire event. Therefore, a combination of tests and thermal analyses methods using commercial heat transfer software are used to meet the necessary design requirements. The authors, along with his other colleagues at Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken, SC, USA, have successfully used this ‘tests and analyses’ approach in the design and certification of several United States’ DOE/NNSA certified packages, e.g. 9975, 9977, 9978, 9979, H1700, and Bulk Tritium Shipping Package (BTSP). This paper will describe these methods and it is hoped that the RAM Type B package designers and analysts can use them for their applications.

In the framework of the FOSTEX Erasmus+ project were identified the best practices across Europe with high potential for being transferrable to the partner countries (Morocco and Jordan) including aspects concerning learning, teaching (courses), dissemination, quality testing, international standardization, equipment, and research projects. We can conclude that the interest of the partners is focused on polymers, protective clothing tests, colour management, product certification, international accreditation, environmental impact (Reach Legislation), colour fastness, washing fastness, and physico-mechanical investigation.

SATCE implementation in aviation training provides a more realistic and immersive training environment (use of AI in communication needs of training with controlled traffic volume and events), offering Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBTA) features in phraseology and procedures. Purdue - ASTi research case study of SATCE enables aviation SMEs to enhance their knowledge and practice their skills in a realistic and immersive environment. Another potential use case for digital twins in SATCE is to simulate different aircraft types and scenarios. Purdue team projects aim to research the behavior and performance of different training scenarios under SATCE, design, test, and certify the implementation – use of different flight devices in existing airspace classification environment. Purdue – SATT approach for SATCE focuses on the potential to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of aviation training programs (CBTA globally) by providing a more realistic and immersive learning experience (lean process for training/certification, transition to AI - AAM environment). Moreover, this research focuses on mitigating residual risk in the 'AI black box', focusing on aviation ecosystem operations under SATCE – facilitating different aircraft types, airspace, and implementation of AAM. Results aim to analyze and evaluate the Artificial Intelligence (AI) certification and learning assurance challenges under the SATCE aspect.

One of the teaching models which stimulates and motivates students' studying activities is the flipped class, which “turns over” the traditional order of the material (a lecture - homework) vice versa. The purpose of this work is to present the effectiveness of the usage of the flipped class model when teaching international students’ theoretical disciplines in Russian at the philological faculty at Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. The traditional way of giving the material of theoretical disciplines to the international students didn’t show the high results: the students couldn’t master the material in full, didn’t understand texts of the lectures due to an insufficiently formed lexical stock and couldn’t do practical tasks and tests. The students met significant difficulties during the performance of the certification work. It became clear that the special preparative work must be done with the students before they begin to listen to lectures. So, the teaching and academic staff of the department (Department of Methodology of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language) at the philological faculty decided to change the traditional way of giving theoretical lecture material in Russian for the international students into the flipped class teaching model. In 2019-2020 academic year the international students got the new formatted material under study within the theoretical discipline “Aspect study of the Russian Language in an international audience”. LMS Canvas was used as an educational platform, where the students got different tasks with video lectures, articles, questions, practical exercises. At the end of the term the students completed the certification work. And the high points which the students got for the work indicated the correctness of the chosen teaching model. The compliance with Head Injury Criteria (HIC) specified in 14 CFR 23.562 [1] and CFR 25.562 [2] poses a significant problem for many segments of the aerospace industry. The airlines and the manufacturers of jet transports have made claims of high costs and significant schedule overruns during the development and certification of 16G seats because of the difficulties encountered in meeting this requirement. The current practice is to conduct Full Scale Sled Tests (FSST) on impact sleds. This approach can be expensive, since a new seat may be needed for each test. Moreover, some consider the HIC sensitive to changes in the test conditions, such as sled pulse, seat belt elongation, etc., resulting in HIC results from FSSTs showing poor repeatability. These difficulties make it desirable to devise a cheaper, faster, and more repeatable alternative to FSSTs. This paper describes an attempt to address these issues by designing a device, the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) HIC Component Tester (NHCT) using various multibody tools. This device was then fabricated and its performance evaluated against FSSTs conducted under similar test conditions for some typical impact events that occur in an aircraft cabins e.g. impact with bulkheads. The factors compared for this evaluation are the head impact angle, head impact velocity, HIC, HIC window, peak head C.G. resultant acceleration, average head C.G. resultant acceleration, and head C.G. resultant acceleration profiles. The results of these evaluations show that the NHCT already produces test results that correlate significantly with FSST results for impact targets such as bulkheads and its target envelope is expected eventually to include objects such as seat backs.

The helmet is the primary means for providing head impact protection to adult and youth football players through use of energy absorbing (EA) materials placed in a crush zone located between the head and helmet shell. Ultimate safety performance of the helmet requires uniformly consistent, repeatable and reliable attenuation of the impact energy so as to minimize head injury potential throughout the helmet. However, quasi-static materials tests and dynamic helmet testing results, reported on herein, show that EA materials of current and older helmet designs are susceptible to large levels of EA degradation, or softening, when subjected to a “hot-wet” condition caused by high temperatures and high humidity, such as that produced from the sweat of a player. Depending on the size of the crush zone, and other factors, this condition can lead to increased head impact loads. The standard football helmet certification criteria do not address the issue of “hot-wet” EA degradation. Dynamic helmet testing analyzed in this study consisted of two methods. One method used the standard helmet certification approach where a human responding head form and helmet are dropped vertically, along a twin guide wire set-up, onto a soft rubber pad. The second method employed use of a human responding Hybrid-III head and neck that was incorporated into a free pendulum impact set-up where impact took place on a non-yielding surface and both direct contact impact injury potential and rotational injury aspects of the helmet performance were measured. The dynamic tests were conducted with various size head forms, energy levels, and impact speeds that ranged from the 5.5 m/s level, used in helmet certification, on up to higher speeds of 7.0 m/s that is more consistent with a “5-second 40-yard dash” speed. Based on equal kinetic energy impact comparisons, the two dynamic approaches showed that helmets that were impacted onto the soft elastomeric pad surface produced artificially lower indications of head injury severity than did the helmets tested against the non-yielding surface. The results also showed large variations and inconsistencies of impact attenuation within a specific helmet design, depending on impact location or region being tested. Also, dynamic impact testing was applied with both ambient and 3-hour “hot-wet” soak conditions applied to the EA padding of adult and youth helmets. These results showed that the relatively newer EA pad designs and the older type elastomeric foam EA pads were sensitive to “hot-wet” degradation for soak times as low as 3-hours, which is consistent with game or practice time situations. Finally, as noted above, it was shown that, depending on the size of the crush zone, this EA degradation factor could lead to increased head loads and injury severity measures. The results suggest the need for additional research on the above to enhance helmet safety.
