Theoretical investigation of the interaction between positive hydrogen ions and electrons located in wurtzite InN containing oxygen impurity atoms is presented in this paper. The interaction is investigated on the basis of the energy pockets for both the electrons and the holes having places in the structure of InN containing oxygen atoms. These energy pockets are found on the basis of the electron band structure of wurtzite InN containing oxygen impurity atoms. A model of the system located electron–positive hydrogen ion is created. It is called the "inversed" hydrogen model, because the electron is fixed in the pocket, and the positive hydrogen ion can change its position (this ion can either be on the surface of InN or belong to a neighboring quasi-elementary cell). The Schrödinger equation for the "inversed" hydrogen model of the electron–hydrogen ion system is determined. The binding energy and the hydrogen-like energy levels of the electron–positive system hydrogen ion system are found.

IFN-γ is elevated in intestinal inflammation and alters barrier and transport functions in human colonic epithelial cell lines, but its effects on normal human small intestinal epithelium in vivo are poorly defined. We investigated effects of prolonged IFN-γ exposure on ion transport and expression of transporters by using human fetal small intestinal xenografts. Xenograft-bearing mice were injected with IFN-γ, and 24 h later xenografts were harvested and mounted in Ussing chambers. Baseline potential difference (PD) was not affected by IFN-γ treatment. However, conductance was enhanced and agonist-stimulated ion transport was decreased. IFN-γ also decreased expression of the Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter and the α-subunit of Na+-K+-ATPase compared with controls, whereas levels of the calcium-activated Cl- channel and CFTR were unaltered. Thus prolonged exposure to IFN-γ leads to decreased ion secretion due, in part, to decreased ion transporter levels. These findings demonstrate the implications of elevated IFN-γ levels in human small intestine and validate the human intestinal xenograft as a model to study chronic effects of physiologically relevant stimuli.

Abstrak : Konsepsi atau pembuahan adalah penyatuan sel telur dengan sperma yang kemudian akan berkembang menjadi embrio dan terus berkembang menjadi janin, dan lahirlah bayi. Mual dan muntah pada kehamilan berlebihan atau hiperemesis gravidarum tidak hanya mengancam nyawa ibu hamil, tetapi juga dapat menimbulkan efek samping pada janin seperti abortus, berat badan lahir rendah, kelahiran prematur, dan malformasi pada bayi baru lahir. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh aromaterapi peppermint pada ibu hamil trimester I. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pre-experimental design dengan Group Pre-test Post-test Designs. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling, dengan penentuan jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 20 ibu hamil trimester I. Instrumen yang dapat digunakan antara lain lembar observasi, pedoman observasi (pengamatan), atau lembar checklist. analisis menggunakan SPSS 18. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum responden mendapatkan aromaterapi peppermint, separuhnya mengalami mual dan muntah dengan tingkat mual dan muntah sedang. Setelah responden mendapatkan aromaterapi peppermint, sebagian besar mengalami mual dan muntah dengan tingkat mual dan muntah ringan. Dari analisis data di atas diketahui nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 artinya nilai signifikansi <, sehingga dapat diketahui bahwa pemberian aromaterapi peppermint berpengaruh terhadap mual muntah pada ibu hamil pada trimester I. Pemberian aromaterapi peppermint berpengaruh terhadap mual dan muntah pada ibu hamil trimester 1. Diharapkan peneliti selanjutnya dapat melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai teknik nonfarmakologi yang efektif dalam menurunkan intensitas mual muntah pada ibu hamil. In heavy ion fusion, the compression of the DT pellet requires high intensity beams of ions in the gigaelectron volt energy range. Charge-changing collisions due to intrabeam scattering can have a high impact on the design of adequate accelerator and storage rings. Not only do intensity losses have to be taken into account, but also the deposition of energy on the beam lines after bending magnets, for example, may be nonnegligible. The center-of-mass energy for these intrabeam collisions is typically in the kiloelectron volt range for beam energies in the order of several gigaelectron volts. In this article, we present experimental cross sections for charge transfer and ionization in homonuclear collisions of Ar4+, Kr4+, and Xe4+, and for charge transfer only in homonuclear collisions of Pb4+ and Bi4+. Using a hypothetical 100-Tm synchrotron as an example, expected particle losses are calculated based on the experimental data. The results are compared with expectations for singly charged Bi+ ions, which are usually considered for heavy ion fusion.

Specific macromolecular transport systems, ion channels and pumps, provide the pathways to facilitate and control the passage of ions across the lipid membrane. Ion channels provide energetically favourable passage for ions to diffuse rapidly and passively according to their electrochemical potential. Selective ion channels are essential for the excitability of biological membranes: the action potential is a transient phenomenon that reflects the rapid opening and closing of voltage-dependent Na+-selective and K+-selective channels. One of the most critical functional aspects of K+ channels is their ability to remain highly selective for K+ over Na+ while allowing high-throughput ion conduction at a rate close to the diffusion limit. Permeation through the K+ channel selectivity filter is believed to proceed as a ‘knockon’ mechanism, in which 2–3 K+ ions interspersed by water molecules move in a single file. Permeation through the comparatively wider and less selective Na+ channels also proceeds via a loosely coupled knockon mechanism, although the ions do not need to be fully dehydrated. While simple structural concepts are often invoked to rationalize the mechanism of ion selectivity, a deeper analysis shows that subtle effects play an important role in these flexible dynamical structures.

This paper considers the linear theory of ion-acoustic-like instabilities in a homogeneous Vlasov plasma with two ion components, a less dense beam and a more dense core, with a relative drift velocity. Numerical solutions of the full electrostatic dispersion equation are presented, and the properties of the ion–ion acoustic instability are studied in detail. The following properties are demonstrated: (i) At relatively cold beam temperatures, the instability is fluid-like, but it becomes a beam resonant kinetic instability as the beam temperature becomes of the order of the core temperature; (ii) if the mode is unstable, its threshold lies well below the threshold of the electron–ion acoustic instability; (iii) an electron temperature anisotropy T⊥/T‖e > 1 enhances the instability and (iv) at sufficiently large beam-core relative drift speeds, electron magnetization can either detract from or enhance the instability. If field-aligned ion beams are to drive the ion-acoustic-like enhanced fluctuations observed upstream of the Earth's bow shock, the effective beam temperature must be much smaller than values quoted in the literature.
