Abstract This paper proposes a methodology in identifying key production processes in an interdependent production system. Previous approaches on this domain have drawbacks that may potentially affect the reliability of decision-making. The proposed approach adopts the Leontief input-output model (L-IOM) which was proven successful in analyzing interdependent economic systems. The motivation behind such adoption lies in the strength of L-IOM in providing a rigorous quantitative framework in identifying key components of interdependent systems. In this proposed approach, the consumption and production flows of each process are represented respectively by the material inventory produced by the prior process and the material inventory produced by the current process, both in monetary values. A case study in a furniture production system located in central Philippines was carried out to elucidate the proposed approach. Results of the case were reported in this work

Rational models of human behavior aim to predict, possibly control, humans. There are two primary models, the cognitive model that treats behavior as implicit, and the behavioral model that treats beliefs as implicit. The cognitive model reigned supreme until reproducibility issues arose, including Axelrod’s prediction that cooperation produces the best outcomes for societies. In contrast, by dismissing the value of beliefs, predictions of behavior improved dramatically, but only in situations where beliefs were suppressed, unimportant, or in low risk, highly certain environments, e.g., enforced cooperation. Moreover, rational models lack supporting evidence for their mathematical predictions, impeding generalizations to artificial intelligence (AI). Moreover, rational models cannot scale to teams or systems, which is another flaw. However, the rational models fail in the presence of uncertainty or conflict, their fatal flaw. These shortcomings leave rational models ill-prepared to assist the technical revolution posed by autonomous human–machine teams (A-HMTs) or autonomous systems. For A-HMT teams, we have developed the interdependence theory of complementarity, largely overlooked because of the bewilderment interdependence causes in the laboratory. Where the rational model fails in the face of uncertainty or conflict, interdependence theory thrives. The best human science teams are fully interdependent; intelligence has been located in the interdependent interactions of teammates, and interdependence is quantum-like. We have reported in the past that, facing uncertainty, human debate exploits the interdependent bistable views of reality in tradeoffs seeking the best path forward. Explaining uncertain contexts, which no single agent can determine alone, necessitates that members of A-HMTs express their actions in causal terms, however imperfectly. Our purpose in this paper is to review our two newest discoveries here, both of which generalize and scale, first, following new theory to separate entropy production from structure and performance, and second, discovering that the informatics of vulnerability generated during competition propels evolution, invisible to the theories and practices of cooperation.

Integration of ship design and ship production is necessary for an efficient shipbuilding process, although it requires very complex documentation planning in particular regarding its level of information and the completion scheduling. Optimally organized documentation planning could largely influence the shipbuilding total cost and lead time. Drawings finished with higher level of unreliability are shortening design phase but could result with major repair and rework activities that could increase production time and cost. On the other hand, insisting on fully completed drawings will increase design-stage time and will minimize repair and rework activities, but not necessarily the shipbuilding cost and lead time. This study researches drawing designing sequence and its unreliability due to designing with unknown, incomplete, or unreliable information. Therefore, analysis of documentation planning is performed based on their interdependence, production requirements, production technology level, and labor costs. Finally, a new approach for ship's drawings planning based on the drawing's reliability is proposed with support of developed computer application. Such approach calculates unreliability of interdependent drawings and proposes optimal documentation package regarding its level of information and lunching sequence toward production process.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to clarify the relationship between cybersecurity governance and internet governance and to explore the effects of the current tendency for cybersecurity-related discourse to dominate and change the way we approach the established problems of internet governance. Design/methodology/approach The paper demonstrates the centrality of internet connectivity to any definition of cyberspace and to cybersecurity, which clarifies the way internet governance and cybersecurity governance are interdependent. Drawing on classic notions of a security dilemma, the paper also argues for distinguishing between national cybersecurity and societal cybersecurity. Findings Major structural features of the governance problem in cybersecurity and internet governance are analogous. Joint production of internet services and cybersecurity makes them heavily interdependent. This means that cybersecurity governance and internet governance models need to be compatible, and the approach we take to one will influence how we approach the other. Originality/value The interdependence of cybersecurity governance and internet governance has not been carefully examined before, and the relationship is not well understood. These two strands of thinking about cyberspace governance have not been properly connected. This paper bridges the gap and makes policymakers more aware of the potential tensions between a cybersecurity perspective and an internet governance perspective.

For the science of autonomous human–machine systems, traditional causal-time interpretations of reality in known contexts are sufficient for rational decisions and actions to be taken, but not for uncertain or dynamic contexts, nor for building the best teams. First, unlike game theory where the contexts are constructed for players, or machine learning where contexts must be stable, when facing uncertainty or conflict, a rational process is insufficient for decisions or actions to be taken; second, as supported by the literature, rational explanations cannot disaggregate human–machine teams. In the first case, interdependent humans facing uncertainty spontaneously engage in debate over complementary tradeoffs in a search for the best path forward, characterized by maximum entropy production (MEP); however, in the second case, signified by a reduction in structural entropy production (SEP), interdependent team structures make it rationally impossible to discern what creates better teams. In our review of evidence for SEP–MEP complementarity for teams, we found that structural redundancy for top global oil producers, replicated for top global militaries, impedes interdependence and promotes corruption. Next, using UN data for Middle Eastern North African nations plus Israel, we found that a nation’s structure of education is significantly associated with MEP by the number of patents it produces; this conflicts with our earlier finding that a U.S. Air Force education in air combat maneuvering was not associated with the best performance in air combat, but air combat flight training was. These last two results exemplify that SEP–MEP interactions by the team’s best members are made by orthogonal contributions. We extend our theory to find that competition between teams hinges on vulnerability, a complementary excess of SEP and reduced MEP, which generalizes to autonomous human–machine systems.

Its introduction has great impact on the production flow, organization of work, job content, and problems in everyday interactions. In-depth analysis of the Fiat Auto case sheds new light on this emerging innovation, showing in particular that relationships between the market and organizational interactions (formal and informal) vary according to the type of outsourcing. The paper also outlines a typology of the outsourced activities (sequential versus interdependent crossed with low versus high complexity).

The successful implementation of carbon dioxide-enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) is crucial in increasing oil production and reducing carbon emissions. For this reason, screening criteria are needed for the initial characterization of a suitable CO2-EOR reservoir. The existing screening model treats the screening parameters independently. Therefore, each parameter has its criteria limit and does not relate to the others. However, in reality, several screening parameters are interdependent, so we need a method that treats the interdependent parameters simultaneously. This research develops a new simultaneous screening model using the interdependency of the parameters. Quantitative and actual data were collected from CO2-EOR field documentation worldwide with a comprehensive analysis. A statistical approach with a correlation analysis method was used to determine the interconnected screening parameters. The results were synchronized with the expert domain to match actual physical conditions. The limit of simultaneous screening criteria was acquired by multivariate quality control (MQC) based on the principal component analysis (PCA) method. The proposed screening model was compared with 13 actual projects, and demonstrated improvements to previous models. The results match actual operations and follow the expert domain rules. If the miscible CO2-EOR is met, then the immiscible should also be appropriate but not vice versa. Nevertheless, four different immiscible projects are predicted to be slightly optimistic as miscible or immiscible.

The concept of autonomy in human-machine teams and systems has become in­creasingly important, yet the concept of autonomy remains elusive to researchers and to philosophers; it either evokes non-autonomous swarms under central or a leader’s control, or that the teammates require a level of intelligence as they perform, but today, intelligence does not generalize from independent humans to human-machine systems. However, some researchers locate intelligence not in the individual members of a team, but in the interactions among the members of a team in a system of teams, opening the possibility of computational auto­nomy based on a metric of entropy production. We also know that a team, com­posed of interdependent teammates, is more productive than the same members who work independently; we do not know why, but we suspect offsetting en­tropy production from the complementary parts of a team when a highly interde­pendent team has been formed into a cohesive unit. Interdependence implies state dependency. We explore these concepts briefly and at an introductory level, including the state-dependency models that have achieved great predictive suc­cess in quantum mechanics while at the same time failing to be intuitive or to be­ing open to a philosophical understanding. That highly predictive, state-depen­dent quantum models leave meaning open to interpretation makes these models non-traditional and non-rational, requiring a trial-and-error randomness in these systems and while identifiable by a system’s entropy production, but a challenge for philosophical interpretation.

Across a broad range of subjects in higher education institutions, students are required to complete assessment tasks that involve the production of digital artefacts. Examples include podcasts, digital stories, animations, video and blended media. To produce effective digital artefacts, one must be digitally literate. This requires a certain set of technical, audio-visual, behavioural, critical and social skills. In this article, the authors propose a framework that can be used to develop digital media literacies and train students in digital media creation. The framework considers three interdependent domains: conceptual, functional and audio-visual. A series of examples will be provided to illustrate the importance and interdependent nature of these domains. Implications of the framework on student training are discussed.

This paper investigates the effects of digital production and information technologies on the development of logistic systems of different kinds: megalogistic, macrologistic, and micrologistic. The notions of a logistic system and types of logistic systems imply that logistics is considered in its broad sense as a modern methodology for managing all types of flows that appear in the process of socioeconomic activities of society and business: material, information, energy, financial and labor flows. The methodology discussed in this paper gives the answer to the question of what impact digital production and information technologies have on the development of various types of logistic systems. The methodology includes building a mathematical model in which the endogenous variables of the model reflect the resulting variables of the logistic system, while the exogenous variables reflect digital production and information technologies. The mathematical model is a system of interdependent dynamic econometric equations. Each equation is an autoregressive distributed lags model. In the model, the current values of an endogenous variable depend on their previous values, as well as on the current and previous values of other endogenous and exogenous variables. The novelty of the research is in the developed methodology for a comprehensive assessment of the impact made by digitalization on a totality of the interrelated and interdependent resulting indicators of the logistic system. A comprehensive assessment of the impact made by digitalization on a totality of interrelated and interdependent indicators of the logistic system is understood as a change in the indicators of the logistic system due to the effect of digitalization. The proposed methodology for a comprehensive assessment was empirically tested for Salesforce company.

AbstractSocial capital appears to be an important determinant of health production and health utilization and demand. However, there is limited evidence on the mechanisms underlying this relationship. In this article we draw on the evidence and insights reported in this special issue along with findings from the economic and other social science literature to develop a discussion on the explanations of the likely (behavioural) mechanisms that underpin the connection between social capital and health. An important and under-explored influence mediating the relationship between social capital and health (behaviour) lies in the ‘social formation of health preferences and constraints’ individuals face in determining their life-styles and in using health care. In particular, we point to the interdependence in how individuals in the first place perceive and also respond to common health risks and the role of cultural transmission and social identity as conveyors of this process. We argue that an emerging body of evidence suggesting that interdependent preferences influence health calls for further re-formulation of traditional demand for and production of health models. Additionally, methodological problems are highlighted and possible ways forward suggested.

To better assess the global impact of the ascendance of emerging powers brought about by globalization, this paper attempts to provide a conceptual framework of “interdependent hegemony,” which can serve as an alternative conceptual tool for analyzing the dynamics between the role of emerging powers as a counter-hegemonic, socio-political force and the hegemonic resilience of the existing international order. The paper also regards the capitalist world economy as a dynamic system which is under constant changes over time, whereas certain basic features of the system remain in place. It is argued that despite the rise of emerging powers, the functioning of the world economy will always generate inequalities with positional changes in the stratification of the core-semiperiphery-periphery structure. In this context, the rise of China as both a recipient and provider of global production and investment is fundamentally a positive driving force behind the evolution of the world system.

Production planning models for the primary wood industry have been proposed for several decades. However, the majority of the research to date is concentrated on individual cases. This paper presents an integrated adaptive modelling framework that combines the proposed approaches and identifies evolving planning situations. With this conceptual modelling approach, a wide range of planning issues can be addressed by using a solid model basis. A planning grid along the time and resource dimensions is developed and four illustrative and interdependent application cases are described. The respective mathematical programming models are also presented in the paper and the prerequisites for industrial implementation are shown.

This kind of production system is very complicated that it is often the spatial variable, time variable and random variable interdependent dynamic problems. The computer simulation software is the one of the best effective way to find out the problems existing in the production process. This paper takes one product line as example, using Flexsim simulation software in the production line for modeling and simulation. Then the simulation test and simulation analysis is done to find out the bottleneck of the system. Finally proposal is given to solving the bottleneck problem, and Flexsim simulation of new distribution is proved that it could improve the efficiency of the production line.

ABSTRACT: We extend Fisher et al. (2003) to investigate the effectiveness of a budget-based incentive contract to settings with alternate task characteristics.We first replicate their finding: when groups perform a task with an additive production function, a budget-based contract leads to higher levels of performance than a piece-rate contract. However, we do not find higher performance when we modify the task to be interdependent, arguably a key feature of group tasks. We also show that goal commitment mediates the incentive contract-performance relation for tasks with an additive production function. Collectively, these results suggest that variations in production technology influence the relative motivational effectiveness of different incentive plans.

Based on an extended economic model and space econometrics, this essay analyzed the spatial distributions and interdependent relationships of the production of forestry in China; also the input-output elasticity of forestry production were calculated. Results figure out there exists significant spatial correlation in forestry production in China. Spatial distribution is mainly manifested as spatial agglomeration. The output elasticity of labor force is equal to 0.6649, and that of capital is equal to 0.8412. The contribution of land is significantly negative. Labor and capital are the main determinants for the province-level forestry production in China. Thus, research on the province-level forestry production should not ignore the spatial effect. The policy-making process should take into consideration the effects between provinces on the production of forestry. This study provides some scientific technical support for forestry production.

This paper considers this relationship in the context of captive gene pool management and suggests an alternative method of conserving Barramundi genetic resources to be used to provide genetically "compatible" stocks for the two activities in conjunction with genetic improvement for commercial operations.

Brand extension is one of the most popular strategies in marketing. This is due to the fact that consumers usually take into account the brand first because it indirectly reflects the design, quality, and functions. According to the significant role of brand in creating benefit and diminishing risk for a new product, this study intended to develop a novel model for selecting the most appropriate strategy in brand extension. However, there are a number of criteria influencing the possible strategies, and they often are interdependent. Therefore, a multi-criteria decision making model based on Analytic Network Process and Additive Ratio Assessment methods has been developed to systematically clarify the interdependent relationships among the evaluation criteria of brand extension and then, scientifically evaluate the feasible strategies and rank the priorities of brand extension strategies. The results of the proposed model show that “Production cost” is the most important factor, followed by “Quality of parent brand” and “Perceived risk” while “Ice cream” is the highest satisfaction of brand extension.

Labor and materials are considered as variable inputs while land and capital are treated as quasi-fixed inputs. Further, the data appear consistent with the existence of an aggregate production technology and the hypothesized optimizing behavior.

Abstract Production planning and scheduling problems are highly interdependent as scheduling provides optimum allocation of resources and planning is an optimum utilization of these allocated resources to serve multiple customers. Researchers have solved production planning and scheduling problems by the sequential method. But, in this case, the solution obtained by the production planning problem may not be feasible for scheduling method. Hence, production planning and scheduling problems must be solved simultaneously. Therefore, in this work, a mathematical model is developed to integrate production planning and scheduling problems. The solution to this integrated planning and scheduling problem is attempted by using a discrete artificial bee colony (DABC) algorithm. To speed up the DABC algorithm, a k-means clustering algorithm is used in the initial population generation phase. This k-means clustering algorithm will help to converge the algorithm in lesser time. A real-life case study of a soap manufacturing industry is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. An objective function to minimize overall cost, which comprises the processing cost, material cost, utility cost, and changeover cost, is considered. The results obtained by using DABC algorithm are compared with those obtained by CPLEX software. There is a saving of ₹2 23 324 for weeks 1–4 in overall cost compared with the results obtained by using CPLEX software.

Calcium (Ca2+) and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) is critically important actors for a vast array of cellular processes. The most significant of the functions is One of the main functions is communication in all parts of the body which is achieved through cell signaling. Abnormalities in Ca2+signaling have been implicated in clinically important conditions such as heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. We propose a mathematical model which systematically investigates complex Ca2+and IP3dynamics in cardiac myocyte. This two dimensional model is based on calcium-induced calcium release via inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors and includes calcium modulation of IP3levels through feedback regulation of degradation and production. Forward-Time Centered-Space method has been used to solve the coupled equations. We were able to reproduce the observed oscillatory patterns in Ca2+as well as IP3signals. The model predicts that calcium-dependent production and degradation of IP3is a key mechanism for complex calcium oscillations in cardiac myocyte. The impact and sensitivity of source, leak, diffusion coefficients on both Ca2+and IP3dynamics have been investigated. The results show that the relationship between Ca2+and IP3dynamics is nonlinear.

Abstract The interdependent inequalities in the production and circulation of knowledge in the social sciences have marked the historical development of mostly male canons from the centers. With the impulse of the feminist wave in Latin America, the great contribution of invisible women to the construction of the social sciences has begun to have high relevance. This article introduces for the first time the intellectual and professional trajectory of Cynthia Hewitt de Alcántara (1942) from the gender and sociology of knowledge perspectives. Based on her written production and an in-depth interview conducted in July 2022, I focus on the author’s production during her first stay in Mexico between 1966-1985, reconstructing the interrelations between the contexts of production and her contributions contesting modernization processes within the green revolution, the situation of women in peripheral rural contexts and the entangled paradigms of the social sciences from a gendered perspective.

Coevolution is a term borrowed from biology, and is used to describe the development of two different populations under mutually interdependent circumstances. This article addresses tourism and food production in a coevolution context. Twenty-one examples from around the world illustrate the formats of coevolution, which benefits tourism and food production alike. While these initiatives are not (yet) mainstream in tourism, they nevertheless constitute changes that match tourism trends in the demand for food experiences with wider meaning and significance. For agriculture and food production, tourism opens new possibilities for diversification and economic opportunities that move beyond traditional business models. Its contribution lies in further development in evolutionary and environmental economists' work on socioenvironmental coevolution, and interaction between human and biophysical systems, which are systematized and discussed according to six characteristics: specificity, reciprocity, simultaneity, genetic fixing, boundary crossing, and organically derived.

AbstractThe article specifies the dependence of defects occurring in the lamination process in the production of yachts. Despite great knowledge about their genesis, they cannot be completely eliminated. Authentic data obtained through cooperation with one of the Polish yacht shipyards during the years 2013–2017 were used for the analysis. To perform a simulation, the sample size was observed in 1450 samples, consisting of 6 models of yachts with closed and open deck. Finding the dependence of the occurrence of specific defects will allow for faster procedures and more effective quality control, which will contribute to lower costs. The use of new methods based on artificial intelligence related to Big Data allows for easier observation of dependencies in the complex structure of data from yacht production. The association rules were defined using the algorithm Apriori and define interdependent defects. A number of dependencies were found for the occurrence of production defects not obvious to technologists, but occurring with a high probability of coexistence. The presented research results may allow the planning process of production tasks to be improved.

Propagation of quality vegetable seedlings is a key of successful vegetable production in an open field and in protected areas. The research is aimed at the production process itself, analyzing it from technological and organizational aspects. Based on a detail calculation of time, means and costs, the researchers obtained the duration of production in days, regarding the propagation of pepper, tomato, cabbage and lettuce seedlings, taking into consideration different technological requirements of crops, ripening time, delivery time and an optimal use of the propagation area. The use of the Program Evaluation and Review Technique required more attention when making a production plan, resulting in the introduction of activities, the realization of which required only the flow of time to harmonize the monitoring of real activities. By using the Precedence Diagramming Method this problem was overcome with predefining the type of relationship between the interdependent activities (Finish-to-Start, Finish-to-Finish, Start-to-Start, and Start-to-Finish).

This article examines how transnational labour mobility in uneven and combined Europe has emerged as a critical response to the problems of capitalist production and social reproduction. Analysing the interconnected mobilities of labour between Ukraine, Poland and the UK in the food production, care provision and housing construction sectors, the article examines how states benefit from lower unemployment and reduced labour shortages, employers profit from qualified and reliable workers, and households gain access to jobs and incomes. It argues that transnational labour mobility is constitutive of the inherently interdependent production–reproduction processes. In this constellation, transnational labour mobility becomes a form of mitigation of depletion through social reproduction. However, it further argues that such a mitigation strategy is unbalanced and unsustainable as its costs and benefits are unequally distributed, forestalling resource inflows that could attenuate outflows. Therefore, harms – in particular, the harm to citizenship entitlements – emerge despite labour mobility mitigating depletion.

Israel’s water and vegetative agriculture sectors are interdependent, as the latter constitutes the solution for wastewater disposal. We employ a dynamic mathematical programming model that captures this interdependence for evaluating the economic damage of irrigation water salinity under two strategies of blending water sources with different salinities: field blending, which enables farmers to assign water with a specific salinity to each crop, and regional blending, under which all crops experience similar water salinity. Relative to field blending, the buildup rate of desalination under regional blending is slightly expedited; nevertheless, reallocations of water sources across sectors and crops increase the average irrigation water salinity, and the overall welfare decreases by USD 0.08 per cubic meter of irrigation water—about 20% of the water’s average value of marginal product. Salinity-sensitive crops will face the largest per hectare production reduction if regional blending replaces field blending; however, the combined variations in the prices of irrigation water and agricultural outputs may motivate farmers to move irrigation water to these crops. Under equilibrium conditions in the two sectors, a 1% increase in the average salinity of the irrigation water supplied to a region reduces the value of the marginal product of that water by 2.4% and 1.6% under field and regional blending, respectively.

ABSTRACT In response to certain environmental signals, bacteria will differentiate from an independent free-living mode of growth and take up an interdependent surface-attached existence. These surface-attached microbial communities are known as biofilms. In flowing systems where nutrients are available, biofilms can develop into elaborate three-dimensional structures. The development of biofilm architecture, particularly the spatial arrangement of colonies within the matrix and the open areas surrounding the colonies, is thought to be fundamental to the function of these complex communities. Here we report a new role for rhamnolipid surfactants produced by the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the maintenance of biofilm architecture. Biofilms produced by mutants deficient in rhamnolipid synthesis do not maintain the noncolonized channels surrounding macrocolonies. We provide evidence that surfactants may be able to maintain open channels by affecting cell-cell interactions and the attachment of bacterial cells to surfaces. The induced synthesis of rhamnolipids during the later stages of biofilm development (when cell density is high) implies an active mechanism whereby the bacteria exploit intercellular interaction and communication to actively maintain these channels. We propose that the maintenance of biofilm architecture represents a previously unrecognized step in the development of these microbial communities.

ABSTRACT Essential membrane proteins are generally recognized as relevant potential drug targets due to their exposed localization in the cell envelope. Unfortunately, high-level production of membrane proteins for functional and structural analyses is often problematic. This is mainly due to their high overall hydrophobicity. To develop new concepts for membrane protein overproduction, we investigated whether the biogenesis of overproduced membrane proteins is affected by stress response-related proteolytic systems in the membrane. For this purpose, the well-established expression host Bacillus subtilis was used to overproduce eight essential membrane proteins from B. subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The results show that the σW regulon (responding to cell envelope perturbations) and the CssRS two-component regulatory system (responding to unfolded exported proteins) set critical limits to membrane protein production in large quantities. The identified sigW or cssRS mutant B. subtilis strains with significantly improved capacity for membrane protein production are interesting candidate expression hosts for fundamental research and biotechnological applications. Importantly, our results pinpoint the interdependent expression and function of membrane-associated proteases as key parameters in bacterial membrane protein production.

With the wide application of advanced information technology and intelligent equipment in the manufacturing system, the decisions of design and operation have become more interdependent and their integration optimization has gained great concerns from the community of operational research recently. This article investigates an optimization problem of integrating dynamic resource allocation and production schedule in a parallel machine environment. A meta-heuristic algorithm, in which heuristic-based partition, genetic-based sampling, promising index calculation, and backtracking strategies are employed, is proposed for solving the investigated integration problem in order to minimize the makespan of the manufacturing system. The experimental results on a set of random-generated test instances indicate that the presented model is effective and the proposed algorithm exhibits the satisfactory performance that outperforms two state-of-the-art algorithms from literature.

Contemporary food provision is largely dominated by agri-capitalism. Using the body of the chicken, the world's most pervasive source of meat protein, this paper tracks the interplay between materiality, spatiality, and temporality within agri-capitalism. It examines the myriad ways in which agri-capitalism distorts space, time, and materiality and deploys them as “fixes” to crises. It illustrates how these fixes reverberate back and forth between production and consumption to shape the spaces of alternative and mainstream food provision alike. It argues that the seemingly distinct spaces of consumption and production are in fact mutually construed and interdependent, and consequently, that shifts in consumptive practices, discourses, or temporalities and materialities cannot in themselves redress the implicit structural inequalities of agri-capitalism. This paper closes with thoughts on an insurgent food politics through which the spaces and possibilities of food can be reimagined.

This paper presents the synchronized and integrated two-level lot sizing and scheduling problem (SITLSP). This problem is found in beverage production, foundry, glass industry, and electrofused grains, where the production processes have usually two interdependent levels with sequence-dependent setups in each level. For instance, in the first level of soft drink production, raw materials are stored in tanks flowing to production lines in the second level. The amount and the time the raw materials and products have to be stored and produced should be determined. A synchronization problem occurs because the production in lines and the storage in tanks have to be compatible with each other throughout the time horizon. The SITLSP and its mathematical model are described in detail by this paper. The lack of similar models in the literature has led us to also propose a set of instances for the SITLSP, based on data provided by a soft drink company. Thus, a set of benchmark results for these problem instances are established using an exact method available in an optimization package. Moreover, results for two relaxations proved that the modeling methodology could be useful in real-world applications.

ABSTRACT The SSU processome is required for production of the small ribosomal subunit RNA, the 18S rRNA. Specifically, the U3 small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) component of the SSU processome is essential for the formation of the conserved central pseudoknot and for cleavages of the pre-rRNA, both of which are required for 18S maturation. To further elucidate how these events are mediated, we examined the regulatory and mechanistic roles of the U3 specific proteins: Imp3p, Imp4p, and Mpp10p. We found that these proteins demonstrated an interdependence with respect to their stability and to their association with the U3 snoRNA. Because mutations in the U3 snoRNA that disrupt pre-rRNA processing confer similar defects on growth and pre-rRNA processing as do carboxy-terminal truncations of Mpp10p, we hypothesized that Mpp10p may be involved in maintaining U3 snoRNA-pre-rRNA base pairing. However, combining the two mutations resulted in a more pronounced cleavage defect at site A2, suggesting that Mpp10p is also required at an additional mechanistic step. Increased competitiveness of the market enforces companies to respond quickly and appropriately to sudden changes in the market in order to adapt to continuously updated conditions of business environment and keep their survivals. Agility concept rises at this level due to necessity of coping with unpredictable changes and uncertainty. Agility enables the firms responsiveness in a quick and an effective way to the set of interdependent changes required in design, production, marketing and organization of the companies. This study addresses agile supplier selection problem. Hierarchical fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution approach (TOPSIS) is proposed for agile supplier selection problem in an airline company.
