How to classify the artistic and philosophical movement of Early German Romanticism (die Frühromantik) remains a topic of ongoing disagreement. I consider the views of two of the leading interpreters—Frederick Beiser and Manfred Frank—and argue that the latter’s are closer to the truth. Beiser, however, has noticed a lacuna in the literature surrounding the metaphysics and epistemology of the Romantics, namely their debt to an ascendant Plato during their intellectual development. This is right, but Beiser’s idealist reading of the Romantics leans heavily on Platonic sources that are fundamentally incompatible with a consistent anti-foundationalist strain in Romantic thought. I argue that it is unlikely that Plato influenced the Romantics in the way Beiser suggests.

As a historian of early childhood education in German-speaking Europe, I am struck by the outstanding role that Friedrich Froebel, or rather his ideas, played in all the countries described in the six essays. This is not really new since even the first historiographic articles in German-speaking countries already pointed out Froebel's role internationally. The worldwide spread of Froebel's educational teachings remains the subject of German research to this day. And yet it is still so remarkable to see how Froebel's philosophy of education—which had its origins in the spirit of romanticism and which seems strange even to German audiences—has succeeded in establishing itself in different cultures and for different reasons. Just think of Italy in the second half of the nineteenth century (James C. Albisetti), of post-revolutionary Russia ruled by the Bolsheviks (Yordanka Valkanova), of Great Britain, France, and the United States. Even in Asian countries we can find evidence of Froebel's influence, for example, in Korea and in Japan (on Japan, Kathleen Uno). In spite of the differences between these countries and their cultures, Froebel's pedagogy has succeeded in playing an influential role in all of them. Extant institutions for the care and education of preschool children developed into modern kindergartens under the influence of Froebel's teachings. In the end it was always about making it possible for young children to learn and, at the same time, taking into account the very special way learning occurs in these early years as an active, action-based and almost effortless kind of learning. Froebel found an answer to this problem. With his gifts he gave the answer in a simple and yet brilliant manner which was, despite its origins in German idealism, apparently unrelated to culture.

Chinese local architectural and artistic traditions proved to be so resistant to external influences that they in turn actively transformed the borrowed styles, giving them a local flavour. As an early example of the gradual transformation of foreign styles on local soil, the Dunhuang cave temple complex should be mentioned, where the traditions of decorating the interiors of Buddhist cave sanctuaries borrowed from India increasingly moved away from the original models, acquiring a local flavour during the heyday. We can talk about similar processes at the beginning of the 20th century in the case of the development of the German settlement of Qingdao, where, in fact, purely German traditions acquired a fundamentally different context in a different cultural and natural environment. The phenomenon of the transformation of northern national romanticism in the conditions of foreign settlements on the territory of China is studied. The Qingdao Governor’s Residence was analyzed as the main example. By comparing this object with European objects of northern national romanticism, the ways in which the borrowed styles were transformed under the influence of local Chinese traditions were determined. Changes took place at the level of landscape traditions, architectural objects, design elements, works of art. This phenomenon continued the process of transformation of foreign phenomena, which took place much earlier, for example, in the unique cave complex of Dunhuang.

The article examines the question of the degree of influence the Western philosophy has on the philosophical concept of the founders of Slavophilism and the related question of the degree of independence of the philosophy of the Slavophils. The view is expressed that the problem of national identity, which became key to the Slavophile authors, was actively discussed at the beginning of the nineteenth century in the countries of Europe and from there penetrated into the Russian thought. It is said that the Slavophiles used the categorical apparatus and methodology of German classical philosophy, primarily the ideas of Hegel and Schelling. A comparison of the views of representatives of Slavophilism and Western European romanticism is conducted. The author concludes that the influence of Western philosophy on the concept of Slavophiles is undeniable, but the complex of Slavophilism ideas cannot be considered secondary to European ideas. The Slavophiles saw their task in creating an independent Russian philosophy, in which the synthesis of the cultures of Russia and the West on the basis of common moral values could be achieved.

Works dealing with the actor proliferated during the early decades of German Romanticism. Actors had come to be viewed as role models whose very costumes, hairstyles, and mannerisms often influenced prevailing fashions or, at least, gave them specific labels from particular plays. Popular interest in everything having to do with people of the theatre was seconded by contemporary poets, playwrights, painters, philosophers, professors, and physicians. While some of their writings concentrated on historical and philosophical concerns, others investigated anthropological and psychiatric as well as medical ones. And contemporary actors themselves contributed publications about the ways, means, and consequences of playing roles in public.

The formation of Albrecht Dürer’s cult in German romantic culture is an important problem of modern art history, since the image of the German master, created in the first half of the 19th century, still influences the perception of his work. The article analyses the works of the Nazarene artists and German masters from Munich and Dusseldorf, where the Nazarene traditions were especially strong. Special attention is paid to the design and organization of the so-called Dürer-Feste. In addition, the works of romantic masters have been identified, in which the influence of the style and iconography of Dürer’s works is especially clearly manifested (by P. Cornelius, F. Pforr, E.N. Neureuther, L.E. Grimm). The main subjects associated with the romantic cult of A. Dürer are identified: friendship with Raphael, work for Maximilian I, receiving the coat of arms from the hands of the emperor, and connection with contemporary artists. The peculiarity of the romantic cult of Dürer is special attention to the personality and biography of the master, which manifested itself in the theory and everyday practices of German artists. At the same time, in the art of German Romanticism, references to Dürer’s work are not so frequent. They are found mainly in graphic works, the plots of which are associated with patriotic or historical themes. The article shows that the image of Dürer in the German romantic culture is multifaceted. The Nuremberg master was perceived as a pious Christian artist, an outstanding engraver, a symbol of the chivalric Middle Ages, and at the same time a bright representative of the burghers of Early Modern times. But first of all, the artists of the Romantic era praised Dürer as the embodiment of the national idea and the direct predecessor of modern German painters.

Pierre Leroux founded the liberal journal Le Globe in the 1820s, moved briefly into the Saint-Simonian camp, and then emerged as one of the most important, independent and philosophically ambitious Romantic socialists of the period before 1848. This essay examines the conflict that erupted between Leroux and German Left Hegelians when Leroux chose to endorse the Berlin lectures of F. W. J. Schelling in 1841. Whereas German radicals like Marx believed Leroux simply did not understand Schelling, the article argues that Leroux's support of Schelling was consistent with the political project that he had pursued since his break with the Saint-Simonians. Leroux's attempt to create a third-way politics between the “socialisme absolu” of the Saint-Simonians and the “individualité absolu” of liberalism was strongly influenced by his long-standing engagement with Romantic poetics, most importantly with what he called Romanticism's “style symbolique.” The Romantic notion that the symbol is a visible representation of the invisible and fundamentally unrepresentable connected Leroux's aesthetics and his politics, for the symbolic mode suggested a way to think of social relationships without reifying them; the gap between representation and objects such as “individual”, “society”, “humanity”, and “God” seemed to open up a space for artistic and political creativity. This commitment to a politics based on the role of the symbolic created an affinity with Schelling that was not acknowledged in the polemics that followed from Leroux's defense of the Left Hegelians' arch-enemy. Recovering the terms of that affinity casts a new and different light on the intersection of aesthetics and politics in Romanticism, and it illuminates paths in the early history of socialism that later developments closed down.

The early German romantics Hölderlin, Novalis, and Schlegel were united in their attempt to combine idealism and realism. However, contemporary interpretations of early German romanticism have, as far as idealism and realism is concerned, found two major strands of interpretation in Manfred Frank and Frederick C. Beiser that respectively characterise the romantics as epistemological and metaphysical realists and as absolute idealists. Against both of these interpretations I will argue that we both can and should interpret the Frühromantiker as finding some middle path between idealism and realism. In order to motivate this claim I will begin by summarising what I take to be the main features of the positions of the three major early German romantics (Hölderlin, Novalis, and Schlegel) as well as making it apparent that finding some way of combining idealism and realism was in fact their goal. In light of these features I will then critique both Frank and Beiser's one-sided interpretations as well as offer an interpretation that does take into account the romantics' self-proclaimed aim. Having gone through Hölderlin, Novalis, and Schlegel in turn, summarised the major elements of their philosophy, shown how the three can be interpreted as neither idealists nor realists, and rejected any absolute idealist readings, as well as having given a reading of these philosophers consistent with their attempt to combine idealism and realism, I will end by concluding that we both can and should interpret the Frühromantiker as finding a middle path between idealism and realism.

Streszczenie:
In this dissertation I challenge the 'standard' reading of early German romanticism, according to which the movement is most fundamentally characterized by unfulfilled longing, infinite approximation and nostalgic despair. Against this 'defeatist reading' I put forward a 'conciliatory reading' according to which the romantics advocate a harmonious relationship between ourselves and the world. The reading I offer is centred on the idea of 'good infinity', an idea long associated with Hegel but one which I argue the romantics (especially Schlegel) anticipated. A good infinity is united with, rather than opposed to, finitude. This dissertation sets out to show how this romantic conception of infinity underlies major aspects of romanticism such as 'incomprehensibility', 'irony', and the method of 'Wechselerweis'. In chapter 1, I argue that the romantics are neither pre-critical idealists continuing the Spinozistic heritage (the view of Frederick Beiser), nor Kantian skeptics replacing the 'thing-in-itself' with the Absolute (the view of Manfred Frank). On the reading I advance, the romantics are forbears to the phenomenological tradition. In chapter 2, I argue that Schlegel's recurring references to 'incomprehensibility', or Novalis' appraisal of 'the night' in his Hymns, are intended as 'positive' contributions in that they ask us to acknowledge and accept, rather than commiserate and reject, an incomprehensible dimension to the world. In chapter 3, I argue that 'good infinity' is implied in the method of 'Wechselerweis' because of its emphasis on a reciprocal relationship. I survey various philosophical attempts to classify romanticism and show how I take my reading to preserve the various truths contained in each. In chapter 4, I distinguish the romantics' version of 'good infinity' from that of Hegel. I use various examples to motivate and describe a first personal sense of commitment that romantic irony, understood as feeling at the same time 'finite and infinite', makes available. Together these chapters support my claim that interpreting infinity to entail unreachability amounts to a limited and ultimately unfaithful reading of the early German romanticist project. With 'good infinity' I offer a way out of those limitations.

Streszczenie:
This thesis reads seminal texts such as Wordsworth’s prose, Lyrical Ballads, The Prelude, and The Excursion alongside Coleridge’s poetic theory and practice and Novalis, Tieck and Friedrich Schlegel’s philosophical novels and fragments, as ‘poetologies’. My initial research aim is to test how successfully Wordsworth can be read as part of this Anglo-German comparative framework, from which criticism has tended to exclude him. This is done through demonstrating the centrality of irony and drama to the philosophical character of Wordsworth’s poetry. Drawing on the theory of the Frühromantiker, I demonstrate that Wordsworth’s revisionary habit and his use of ballads and epitaphs shape a poetics constantly ‘in the process of becoming’ (F. Schlegel), the vehicle of the poet’s aspirations to dramatize a potentially infinite self-consciousness. Secondly, my thesis investigates the ways of reading these seminal texts which give us a clearer idea of how Romantic writers internally situate their own work through their use of contrasting genres. This investigation expands to examine how the collaborative, interdisciplinary ventures proposed by Romantic writers elaborate the concept of ‘poetology’ as a practicable theory. This leads to my final research aim: to make apparent that these methodologies result in the Mischgedicht, the ‘mixed poem’ which Schlegel theorizes as the ultimate incarnation of modern, ‘Romantic’ literature. The thesis concludes by drawing theories, methodologies and texts together and making sense of that ultimate continuity sought by the Romantic project. I do this by turning to the poetologizing of immortality (which supersedes death as a Romantic preoccupation) and arguing that to poetologize immortality – to poeticize and philosophize it simultaneously – is the test-case for producing the infinite from the finite. I suggest the necessity felt by Romantic writers to achieve this transformation in order to legitimate the permeable philosophical poetry and poetic philosophy – ‘poetologies’ – which made it possible.

Attribution in art history meets various criteria, which can be studied with regard to the history of the art market but also the history of taste. Raphael, whose art has been the subject of numerous attributions or disattributions, is in this respect a textbook case. The study of six drawings and paintings corresponding to the three periods of Raphael's career made it possible to identify characteristics relating to attribution reasoning not only for the painter studied but also for modern painting in general. These reasonings obey a well-established discourse which was put in place during the 19th century under the double influence of the natural sciences and the models of textual, philological and historical criticism. The latter is part of the tradition of the Maurists and within the framework of the institutionalization of knowledge which is taking place particularly in Germany for the new discipline that represents the history of art. Very quickly it is possible to observe a personalization of the attribution, a work by Raphael being able to be given to the master only by a “Raphaelist”. The study of different attributionist texts spanning nearly two centuries has made it possible to understand the problem of taste and thus to explain the changes in attribution for the same work. The beginnings of the history of art in Germany are parallel to the emergence, under the influence of the first German romantics of a new taste for the Primitives which will lastingly influence the view of the "Raphaelists" who will seek to build a corpus of early works and will devalue those of the Roman period whose classicism is beginning to fall out of fashion. This change of view on Raphael first took place within the framework of a revival of Catholicism and would continue at the end of the 19th century with the rejection of academicism, for which Roman Raphael was judged responsible. However, over the past twenty years, the Roman period has been revalued, leading to the reattribution of Roman works to the master himself and allowing a new study of the notion of attribution

Dorothea Schlegel’s Florentin (1801) is one of the less well known novels of the period commonly referred to as Early German Romanticism. This study attempts to combine both the historical context of the novel and later critical approaches to the ideas of the period. At the same time, this study seeks to avoid the more transcendent approaches that have previously been used in order to attempt to understand Florentin. In order to do so this study makes the expressionless or the gap created by allegorical expression between sign and signified a central theme in order to create a field of tensions and uncertainties. Although many readers of Florentin have noted the sensation of an absence of clarity while reading the novel, the majority of them have put this down to a lack of ability on the part of the author. This study attempts to find a structural explanation for the expressionless in Dorothea Schlegel’s novel while attempting to preserve aspects of its unknowability.

The use of basso continuo in the performance of many late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century genres is well documented, yet the influence of this practice on the Lieder during that time has never been fully explored. This dissertation analyzes Lied accompaniments of the period in relation to the recommendations found in contemporary thorough bass treatises in order to demonstrate that continuo practice did have an effect both on what composers were writing and how the songs were being performed. The majority of written-out Lied accompaniments from the late eighteenth-century conform to the recommendations given by treatise authors on matters of texture, distribution of the notes between the hands, octave doublings, parallel intervals, embellishments, and relationship of the keyboard part to the solo line. Furthermore, figured basses were still printed in some songs into the early part of the nineteenth century. Well-known nineteenth-century Lied composers, such as Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms also frequently use these simple, continuo-like keyboard parts, and incorporate common continuo techniques for filling out chords into their more complex accompaniments. The fact that continuo practice, a tradition in which improvisation played a large role, continued to have such a pervasive influence on the printed Lied suggests that additions and embellishments can be made to what is written on the page. Furthermore, evidence from secondary sources, statements by musicians of the period, and clues in the music itself confirm that composers did not always intend for performers to play exactly what is notated. In this dissertation, I argue that in many of these songs the musical score should be viewed as only a basic outline, which can then be adapted depending on the skill level of the performers, the available keyboard instruments, and the context of the performance. Principles from the continuo treatises serve as a guide for knowing what additions to make, and I offer suggestions of possible applications. Appendices detail the contents of 50 continuo treatises published between 1750 and 1810.

Streszczenie:
Abstract In conjunction with its influence within philosophical and theological circles, the emergence of Romanticism in the early nineteenth century exercised a deep influence in the visual arts. In the first third of the nineteenth century, Romantic motifs and sensibilities were enthusiasticly received and developed in religious artwork by artists such as Philipp Otto Runge, the Riepenhausen brothers, Caspar David Friedrich, and the Nazarenes. This chapter considers the influence of Early Romanticism on artistic movements of early nineteenth century, examining the impact of early Romantic texts by Wilhelm Wackenroder and Ludwig Tieck and their description of Kunstreligion (art-as-religion), the mystical and geometric structure of Philipp Otto Runge’s Tageszeiten cycle, the aesthetics of contemplation and religious experience in the work of Caspar David Friedrich, the allegorical stylization of form as an expression of religious sentiment among the Nazarenes, and the strong influence of the Nazarenes upon the Catholic Renewal Movement.

Chapter 1 provides a detailed discussion of the book’s key ideas, beginning with the importance of the author’s own literary apprenticeship as a reader for the writer s/he will become, starting with the ideas of Emerson on influence and reading. The section ‘Tradition and Inheritance: the Künstlerroman’ provides an in-depth history of the German Romantic genre and its relevance for the creative autobiographies studied in the following chapters. It compares the specific form of the artist novel with the Bildungsroman and discusses the meaning and relevance of the term Bildung and the idea of apprenticeship. The section ‘Influence (Inflowing)’ explores the idea of literary inheritances and Harold Bloom’s notion of the anxiety of influence. It examines how the German genre influenced British Romanticism and twentieth-century life-writing, highlighting the pliability of generic forms, and further how the author’s technical skill in genre mixing displays an understanding of their art form and the quality of their imagination.

Abstract This chapter argues that the key figure in the channeling of Spinoza’s thought into German thought in the eighteenth century was the pre-Romantic philosopher Herder and that Herder’s earliest reception of it concerned not the Ethics, whose metaphysics he first embraced around 1773 but, rather, the Theological-Political Treatise, whose principles in philosophy of mind, hermeneutics, and political philosophy he already took over as early as 1768/9. The chapter explains Herder’s appropriation of ideas from the Theological-Political Treatise in each of these three areas. It then clarifies their continued influence via Herder on German Romanticism proper (Schleiermacher and Friedrich Schlegel).

Streszczenie:
Friedrich Schlegel is the main representative of early German Romanticism. His romantic poetics are not only important for the development of German poetry, but also for the change from Classic to Modern in European intellectual life. And at the center of his theory is the term “criticism” (Kritik). There is already a lot of re-search on this term, including Walter Benjamin’s doctoral thesis The Concept of Art Criticism in German Romanticism. Most of them put this term in the Cartesian and Kantian tradition and see it as an artistic expression of philosophical “reflection”. This is indeed one of the most important perspectives to view this term, but in Schlegel's case this is only the first step. In addition, most of these studies are limited to works from his romantic period only, and his earlier works on classical studies are usually not included, which makes the analysis of this term incomplete. Accordingly, this essay attempts to advance the discussion of Schlegel's romantic “Criti-cism” in two directions. First, apart from the traditional reflective dimension, this term will further be explored in a skeptical, pheno-menological and existential dimension respectively. Second, his classical studies, especially the studies of Greek poetry, will also be included in the discussion because they have also played an impor-tant role in the shaping of this term. Through these efforts, this essay intends to prove that literary criticism is actually another name for poetic creation in Schlegel’s romantic poetics, and more importantly, it also reflects the transformation from Classic to Mo-dern in European intellectual life.

Abstract: This paper seeks to demonstrate that Le Corbusier's autodidactic agenda between 1908 and 1911 reflects a consistent philosophical reasoning based on the philosophical tradition of German idealism. The vehicle of analysis is the connection between Édouard Schuré's 'Sanctuaires d'Orient', a book Le Corbusier read in 1908, and three key episodes of the subsequent period of travel. Schuré's book provides us with the philosophical framework to which he was exposed. The three episodes, in turn, are taken as case studies in order to demonstrate the correlation between the philosophical background of the book and Le Corbusier's changing attitudes during this period. The terms of this correlation are based on an evolutionary conception of history and can be synthesized as the belief in cultural progress, leading to a new society built upon the unity of science, religion and art, in a secular-sacred life attained through the recovery of a pantheistic existence, and in art and architecture as a means to an epistemological experience. I will lastly argue that this creates the basis for the lifelong influence of idealism in Le Corbusier's work and thought. Keywords: Le Corbusier's Education; Schuré; German Idealism; Romanticism. Streszczenie:
The paper intends to chronologically present the development path of ethnology as an educational and scientific discipline from the anthropogeographical school of Jovan Cvijić to the present day. There is a long list of all those who, from Dositej’s enlightenment, through Vuk’s romanticism and Cvijić’s school of anthropogeography, contributed to the development of ethnology in Serbia. It is undeniable, however, that with the appearance of Jovan Cvijić, ethnology became independent and gained its place in the scientific and educational system. The Cvijić’s anthropogeography school was shut down without the subsequent generations having produced an original approach: contemporary anthropology in Serbia is based on taking over the current world scientific models of anthropological schools from the West. Cvijić’s key role in branding ethnology as an educational and scientific discipline in Serbia—from the “science of the people“ to current anthropological directions is unquestionable. The term science of the people is a concise description of all the directions in which the researches of our early ethnologists, educated under the influence of Cvijić’s anthropogeographical school, as well as those of later researchers, whose traces of activity go back to after the Second World War. Cvijić’s school became known beyond the then borders of Yugoslavia. Naturally, understandings about the subject and goals of ethnology have changed, and the methods of scientific work have been improved. Today, anthropology is dominant, and the state of ethnological and anthropological science in Serbia can be monitored at least on three levels: education and institutions; scientific production—realization and presentation of scientific work; scientific configuration—diversity and directions of scientific approaches.

Abstract Since its commercial introduction in the early 1980s, it has been known that HVOF spraying can produce layers with low oxide levels, high toughness, and excellent adhesion strength. Unlike low-pressure and vacuum plasma spraying, the HVOF process does not require a controlled atmosphere. As a result, the oxygen content of the wettable powder plays a significant role in layer quality. In this paper, the oxygen content of normal MCrAlY powder is varied and its influence on coating quality is examined. It is shown that, by limiting the initial oxygen content in spray powder, higher density HVOF layers with lower oxide proportions can be achieved. Paper includes a German-language abstract.

Streszczenie:
Passive Autocatalytic Recombiners (PARs) in PWR-Containments remove hydrogen released in case of a severe accident with core damage by catalytic oxidation with the oxygen of the containment atmosphere. The removal of hydrogen in autocatalytic recombiners (PARs) results in temperature levels at the catalytic surfaces up to 900 °C and leads to elevated temperatures up to several hundred degrees of the gas flowing over these surfaces. Under such operating conditions suspended CsI and other iodide particles transported with the convective gas flow through PARs can be converted into volatile iodine thus influencing the iodine source term. Even low conversion rates might lead to a significant influence on the concentration of gaseous iodine in the early phase of an accident where high CsI/I2 ratios of 100:1 or even higher can be expected. In the frame of the German national THAI programme two technical-scale experiments, AER-2 and AER-5, have been performed to investigate the conversion rates CsI → I2 occurring under realistic PAR operating conditions and beyond, and the influence of PARs on CsI aerosol parameters. An original SIEMENS (now AREVA NP) type PAR has been operated under realistic thermalhydraulic conditions. CsI aerosol has been generated by evaporating ultra pure CsI in an inductive furnace and monitored in the THAI vessel, following re-condensation, by low pressure impactors and filters. Experiments with hydrogen concentrations of up to 5 vol% H2 under normal conditions and of up to 10.5 vol% H2 in a steam-inerted atmosphere have been performed. An approved and qualified sampling and detection method has been applied to determine gas borne molecular iodine concentrations. CsI → I2 conversion rates of 3% have been observed as an upper limit under realistic thermalhydraulic conditions. The results are compared to CsI → I2 conversion rates achieved in the French RECI experiments. These experiments investigated the interaction of catalytic material and metal iodides (CsI, CdI) in a lab-scale setup showing conversion rates up to 60%. However, these experiments might deviate from representative thermochemical conditions. A comparison of THAI and RECI results — as far as appropriate concerning aerosol parameters and gas temperatures — shows conversion rates in comparable dimensions. In other cases they differ significantly. The potential contribution of an operating PAR (metal iodide interaction) to the iodine source term together with the restricted knowledge from both THAI and RECI tests, means that further investigations are required.

Streszczenie:
System combination is an important technique for combining the hypotheses of different machine translation systems to improve translation performance. Although early statistical approaches to system combination have been proven effective in analyzing the consensus between hypotheses, they suffer from the error propagation problem due to the use of pipelines. While this problem has been alleviated by end-to-end training of multi-source sequence-to-sequence models recently, these neural models do not explicitly analyze the relations between hypotheses and fail to capture their agreement because the attention to a word in a hypothesis is calculated independently, ignoring the fact that the word might occur in multiple hypotheses. In this work, we propose an approach to modeling voting for system combination in machine translation. The basic idea is to enable words in hypotheses from different systems to vote on words that are representative and should get involved in the generation process. This can be done by quantifying the influence of each voter and its preference for each candidate. Our approach combines the advantages of statistical and neural methods since it can not only analyze the relations between hypotheses but also allow for end-to-end training. Experiments show that our approach is capable of better taking advantage of the consensus between hypotheses and achieves significant improvements over state-of-the-art baselines on Chinese-English and English-German machine translation tasks.

Streszczenie:
The article notes that Gregorian chant had a special influence on the emergence and development of Polish liturgical hymns. Crucial for the development of Easter hymns was the appearance in the church liturgy of the so-called troparas, i.e. short phrases or whole sentences that supplement the original liturgical texts, which are considered the primary source of religious hymns in national languages. The oldest Polish sources on this topic date back to the 14th century. It has been noted that the custom of singing Polish Easter songs during the procession of the Resurrection of Christ dates back to the late 13th and early 14th centuries. The oldest of them is «Wstałzmartwych Кrół nasz, Syn Boży». Its melody coincides with the Latin trope Triumphat Dei Filius or Rex Christe primogenite. According to the conclusions of the prominent Polish medievalist Fr. Jerome Feicht, this song, although it is a jubilee song of the Cum rex gloriae, is not a chorale but a melody of folk origin from the territory of modern France or southern Germany. The Easter sequence Victimae paschali laudes, without the Polish text, is considered. A number of songs of Latin origin used in the German and Polish versions are studied. As a result, it is noted that the presented Easter troparions are evidence of the oldest Polish Easter songs that were performed during the Resurrection rite. They are proof of the extent to which Gregorian melodies penetrated the consciousness of the Poles and had a huge impact on the development of religious musical culture. Key words: Easter, troparion, sequence, chant, Polish Easter song.

Streszczenie:
The objective of this paper is to analyze the influence of incoming periodic wakes, considering the variable width, on the integral total pressure loss for two low pressure turbine (LPT) airfoils. In order to reduce the overall weight of a LPT, the pitch to chord ratio was continuously increased, during the past decades. However, this increase encourages the development of the transition phenomena or even flow separation on the suction side of the blade. At low Reynolds numbers, large separation bubbles can occur there, which are linked with high total pressure losses. The incoming wakes of the upstream blades are known to trigger early transition, leading to a reduced risk of flow separation and hence minor integral total pressure losses caused by separation. For the further investigation of these effects, different widths of the incoming wakes will be examined in detail, here. This variation is carried out by using the numerical Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Solver TRACE developed by the DLR Cologne in collaboration with MTU Aero Engines AG. For the variation of the width of the wakes, a variable boundary condition was modeled, which includes the wake vorticity parameters. The width of the incoming wakes was used as the relevant variable parameter. The implemented boundary condition models the unsteady behavior of the incoming wakes by the variation of the velocity profile, using a prescribed frequenc. TRACE can use two different transition models; the main focus here is set to the γ–Reθt transition model, which uses local variables in a transport equation, to trigger the transition within the turbulence transport equation system. The experimental results were conducted at the high speed cascade open loop test facility at the Institute for Jet Propulsion at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich. For the investigation presented here, two LPT profiles — which were designed with a similar inlet angle, turning, and pitch are analyzed. However, with a common exit Mach number and a similar Reynolds number range between 40k and 400k, one profile is front loaded and the other one is aft loaded. Numerical unsteady results are in good agreement with the conducted measurements. The influence of the width of the wake on the time resolved transition behavior, represented by friction coefficient plots and momentum loss thickness will be analyzed in this paper.

Streszczenie:
Urban planning constitutes a pivotal role in the daily routines of citizens, exerting a substantial influence on their overall quality of life. Consequently, the involvement of citizens in these planning processes is imperative. Citizen participation is a promising tool for bolstering acceptance of implemented urban planning measures. At the moment, considerable attention is directed toward the integration of virtual reality (VR) in the realm of urban planning and participation. However, the efficacy of this method seems contingent upon specific conditions or target user groups. Thus, it is crucial to differentiate the formats and methods suitable for approaching user groups at various stages to elicit a high level of satisfaction with participation, thereby ensuring enduring positive effects for future citizen engagement. This study aims to formulate a model of citizen participation in urban planning, elucidating the factors influencing satisfaction with participation and the subsequent willingness to engage in future planning processes. A comprehensive literature review identified the following factors impacting satisfaction and future willingness to participate: 1) Participation level, 2) Participation format, 3) Time of participation, and 4) Personal characteristics. In terms of participation level, informative procedures furnish participants with factual information but confer limited decision-making power. Deliberative processes, on the other hand, foster communication, discussion, and opinion formation, affording participants greater influence. Collaborative processes emphasize concrete cooperation and joint solution finding through activities such as research, analysis, and design. Regarding participation format, a dichotomy exists between analogue (e.g., citizen consultation hours, residents' meetings, face-to-face surveys) and digital (e.g., online meetings, virtual reality visualization, online voting) methods. Engagement can be initiated at different stages of the planning process, including the early planning stage, start, implementation phase, or project conclusion. Additionally, individual factors such as age, gender, norms, motives, and convictions have been identified in numerous studies as influencing participation satisfaction and willingness. This model, integrated into the NUMIC2.0 project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, investigates determinants of citizen participation in urban and regional planning. The model incorporates the identified aspects and constructs from the literature review, offering insights into the factors influencing successful citizen participation. Advantages and disadvantages of diverse methods and approaches for specific user groups will be outlined within the paper. The model is intended to provide the municipalities with a basis for selecting suitable methods, engagement levels and participation times tailored to the respective target groups. Future research should focus on validating the model.
