This research aims at clarifying a variety of issues concerning the development of economic corridors in Nghe An province until 2030. The author proposes a plan for Nghe An province’s economic corridors’ development based on the existing status of the province's five economic corridors and the anticipated effects of the formation of expressways (East and West), high-speed railways, and the development of an industrial-urban site in the East. The orientation of key industries and sectors, such as transportation, manufacturing, services, agriculture, and urban, that are important for the growth of each corridor is also suggested. The author highlights the need of expanding legality in the creation of economic corridors in the province together with specialized policies, particularly for the economic centers along the corridor.

With Hexi Corridor as the study case, this study established an evaluation index system for the development of the industrial parks and industrial clusters, and used the coupling coordination model and exploratory spatial data analysis method (ESDA) to explore the evolution and spatial correlation of the coupling coordination between the industrial park and industrial clusters in Hexi Corridor from 2005 to 2017. It is found that from 2005 to 2017, the industrial parks and industrial clusters has shown closer correlations; despite the high level of coordination, the degree of coupling remains low; the Hexi Corridor has not yet developed a growth engine for the coordinated development of the industrial parks and the clusters, and there is no county-level industrial entities that have strong stimulating power. Given the requirements of the current industrial agglomeration model for regional innovation capabilities, this study proposes suggestions for coordinated development of industrial parks and industrial clusters in Hexi Corridor.

Streszczenie:
Industrial agglomeration is the most prominent geographical feature of economic activity. East Java is one of the richest provinces in Indonesia that have north - south corridor industry agglomeration. In the northern region, it includes the City of Surabaya, Sidoarjo Regency, Pasuruan Regency, Mojokerto Regency, Gresik Regency, and Tuban Regency. The southern region includes Malang City, Malang Regency, and Kediri City. This study aims to discover whether industrial agglomeration is the key for region development and economic growth, especially on the East Java’s north-south corridor. This study also find the absorption of labor in each region as a result of industrial agglomeration in the northern and southern regions. This study used Location Quotion (LQ) and Shiftshare analysis to be able to represent the occurrence of industrial centralization in the northern and southern corridors of East Java in the period 2011 – 2019. The results analysis show that most of the sectors that form the basis of districts/cities in the north-south corridor generally excel in the industrial, trade, and service sectors. The absorption of labor in several industrial areas in East Java in the northern and southern corridors is also required by the completeness of regional infrastructure. The implications of the research is at the sectoral level cannot yet be described in depth on the performance of other sub-sectors in these economic activities, nor can they be fully developed because there are many factors that influence the development of a region.

Streszczenie:
Rise of Asia has necessitated the greater interconnection and economic integration around the globe. The scope of development is not limited to a nation or a particular region only, in fact, it is taking place across nations as well as regions and sub-regions in Asia. The concept of ‘Economic Corridor’ is used to explain this phenomenon of connectivity. Economic corridors work as a catalyst for regional integration and a driver for inclusive growth by bringing underdeveloped regions into the upward growth trajectory. South Asia is characterised with booming economic growth while economic corridors are playing the role of a catalyst for regional and economic integration. However, such corridors are also creating many political challenges in the region. Hostility among the regional states is a critical factor. In this background, this paper analyses the shaping of economic corridors along regional transport routes and tries to address this question as to how industrial expansion and assortment can bring vibrant change in the region. Moreover, the role of economic corridors is being discussed as a key factor for regional integration in South Asia. The paper also addresses the key political challenges in the implementation of these networks. While discussing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIMEC) are the main focus of this paper.

Abstract The Indonesian Economic Corridor is 1 of the 3 pillars in the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development 2011–2025. This initiative applies the concept of a modern corridor, which divides Indonesia's territory into 6 economic corridors, according to the competitive advantages of each region. This study aims to compare whether the infrastructure planned and built by the Government for each economic corridor is in-line with the expectations of the people who live in that economic corridor. In this study, a survey was conducted to determine the public's perception of the infrastructure needed for the development of an economic corridor. The results are then compared with the infrastructure provision plan that has been and will be developed by the Government. The study shows that there are differences between the infrastructure provided by the Government and those needed by the people in each corridor. Kalimantan Corridor shows the best proportion of supply-demand suitability which provided 3 out of 5 required infrastructures.Overall, there are infrastructures, which are commonly needed to ensure the growth of economic corridor, namely a well-connected transportation backbone, availability of alternative transportation modes and their inter-modal facility, ports with good services, and the availability of high-speed internet networks. Corridors that can be selected as a model for corridor development are the Java and the Bali-NTB-NTT Corridors, because these corridors have a high number of infrastructure suitability and have all the infrastructure needed by each corri-dor. Keywords: economic corridor; infrastructure; infrastructure provision; infrastructure needs; public perception. Due to the changing geopolitical situation, the development of transport corridors in Eurasia is of critical importance. In recent years, the reliability of the traditional route through the Suez Canal has been repeatedly questioned. There were accidents, arrest of ships, inability to enter ports, piracy and other challenges. Changing geopolitics also imposes its limitations (refusal of insurance because of sanctions, trade embargoes of a number of countries, etc.). Accordingly, countries subject to sanctions’ pressure from the United States and the EU are forced to look for safer, more reliable and faster ways to organize goods and cargo turnover. This actualizes the issue of the development of the two most promising transit corridors – the northern and southern ones. The Northern Sea Route (NSR) and the North–South Corridor (Trans-Caspian Corridor) were initially considered as options for transit transportation of goods from China to Europe. However, due to the growing social and economic crisis in Europe, the vector of routes is changing, reorienting itself to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Moreover, the rapid social and economic development of countries and changing geopolitical conditions are activating the processes of searching not only for trade, but also for industrial cooperation. At the same time, restrictions on the development of these routes, both technical and institutional, are still in effect today. The article discusses the key prospects for the development of these transport corridors, provides estimates of possible positive effects for the regions of Russia, and also discusses the problems hindering the use of the Northern Sea Route and the North-South corridor.

Streszczenie:
Spatial interpolation methods were analyzed to determine the best fit for subsidence rates and to create a predictive surface for the lower Mississippi River Industrial corridor (LMRIC). Empirical Bayesian kriging, ordinary kriging, universal kriging, and Inverse Distance Weighted interpolation methods were applied to the 2004 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published Technical Report #50 dataset and cross validation methods were utilized to determine the accuracy of each method. The mean error and root mean square error were calculated for each interpolation method, then used to detect bias and compare the predicted value with the actual observation value. Cross-validation estimates are comparable for each method statistically and visually; however, the results indicate the empirical Bayesian kriging interpolation method is the most accurate of the methods using the lowest root mean square scores. Digital elevation models for the years 2025, 2050, and 2075 were developed based on the predictive surface of subsidence rates using the results from the empirical Bayesian kriging interpolation method. Results indicate that by 2025, 30.9% of landmass in the LMRIC will be below sea level, with 41.9% below sea level by 2050, and 53.5% by 2075. Subsidence rates in the LMRIC range from approximately 28 mm to 2 mm per year. Eighteen of the 153 industrial complexes located in the LMRIC are estimated to be below sea level by the year 2075.

This thesis explores the impact that the petrochemical industry has had on the built environment of Norco, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. Previous scholars have suggested that heavy industry in Norco consumes a majority of the Mississippi River's natural levee, which is the most elevated and flood resistant land in the town. In order to test these observations, the author of this thesis has collected parcel-level land use data in Norco to determine the flood hazard and topographical characteristics of these various land uses. Spatial calculations, run using Geographic Information System software, have determined that heavy industrial land uses in Norco consume a vast majority of the Mississippi River's natural levee.

Streszczenie:
Petrochemical industrial (PTCI) sites may be considered a niche in the property market. Mainstream economics, industrial development and real estate studies related literatures treat it as the same as others. By prescribing the New Institutional Economics (NIE) approach, this research seeks to find a definitive line to divide between this sub-sector with other industrial activities. In particular, from the real estate perspective. The key research question is on the effect of formal institutions on industrial land supply. The empirical research was carried out in Kerteh and Gebeng in the Malaysian East Coast region. Despite being isolated from nation’s mainstream economic activities as well as politically distinctive, the tiny townships managed to be host to global petroleum, gas and chemical giants, believed to have received the highest concentration of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Malaysia. Data were gathered on the physical development on the industrial sites, through official records investigation at the government offices as well as interviews with key figures both in the government and firms. Qualitative and descriptive quantitative data analyses were applied. Within the studied area, it was found that the two State Governments, Terengganu and Pahang are the only land suppliers for PTCI use. Results from the analyses indicate that formal institutions have a substantial influence on supply-side behavior. The key findings suggest that due to the complexity of the government decision making process, government supply of industrial sites for PTCI use is timely, uncertain, and not flexible according to demand. To arrive at a decision, on land in particular, the authorities have to consult a massive set of information, dozens of public offices, hundreds of standards and a wide range of expertises. In addition, a structured decision making process is strictly observed. The findings indicate that in the PTCI sector, where the investment is vulnerable to various forms of risks, the property transaction mode is slightly distinctive. The deadliest threat is unexpected changes in prices and supply of the chemical feedstock. As natural gas derivatives, especially butane, ethane and propane, the supply is dictated by the global market. Anticipating a threat, new sites must be sought. The authority’s inability to respond to the immediate firms’ needs invites additional risks. In addition, where the risk is very high, land prices are not imperative in industrial locating. The findings also signify that the government decision making process which is framed out by the social institutions which has been inherited since generations has hardly changed. The firms however, without touching the institutional arrangements, through a unique clustering process find ways on how to beat the red tape to secure a site together with the chemical feedstock.

Streszczenie:
This thesis investigates how operating in a policy-driven industrial cluster built from scratch by policymakers affects the internationalisation of firms. Following the success of well-known clusters like Silicon Valley, policymakers in many countries often seek to replicate these examples, anticipating the offset of various advantages as a result. One of the main perceived externalities associated with developing an industrial cluster is that it can potentially provide a foundation for enhancing firm internationalisation. However, extant literature has not adequately addressed whether and how a policy-driven industrial cluster affects the international growth of firms. In fact, research examining the impact on internationalisation of clusters as a whole, whether policy-driven or otherwise, is relatively scant, despite the importance of locational factors in International Business (IB) research, as stipulated by the eminent John Dunning, among others. The purpose of this research, therefore, is to generate fresh insights and understanding into how operating in a policy-driven industrial cluster impinges on firm internationalisation. The context of the study is the case of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). This case was selected for two key reasons. Firstly, it fits with the definition of a policy-driven industrial cluster, namely that its birth was the result of the direct actions of policymakers, and secondly, one of its primary objectives is to enhance firm internationalisation, which makes it a highly suitable case to examine. The research adopts the interpretivist paradigm, with an embedded single-case study deemed the most appropriate methodology for responding to the research question. Multiple sources of evidence were employed, with the primary focus being on personal interviews with key managers in 10 firms, and representatives from the MSC cluster and a private organisation that works to support firms and entrepreneurs in the cluster. The findings suggest that the impacts of a policy-driven cluster on internationalisation are largely associated with marketing and financial support from policymakers, rather than deriving from the geographic co-location of actors, as suggested by much of the existing literature on 'organic' clusters. The key contributions of the research are grounded in the fact that it focuses on internationalisation within a particular context (a policy-driven cluster) which, as noted, has been largely overlooked by IB scholars. In particular, fresh insight has been gained into some of the potential motivations behind firms joining such clusters, and the nature of their impact on internationalisation. The study also stresses various important implications that emerge for practitioners and policymakers. The thesis concludes by highlighting the limitations of the study and offers some suggestions for future related research.

Floor 26 of Ho King Commercial Centre in Yau Ma Tei, the elevator stops. At the end of the corridor, the sound of a heavy metal band, detuned screams buffered by the cracked plywood door of a tiny music studio. Outdated factory buildings in Kwun Tong, industrial architecture gradually surrounded by new commercial and residential complexes; their precarious wait for urban renewal has offered an opportunity for young musicians to establish music studios, classrooms, or improvised bedrooms where music and teenage discoveries mingle with the noise of machinery. A rusty anonymous intercom partially hidden by some plastic ivies. Past the door, a narrow metallic staircase, source of random encounters and only access point to a one-off experience; hundreds of people—local and foreigners—gathered in a tiny dark room, a miscellany of sweat, smoke, voices, and distant music. The hidden networks formed by musicians scattered in unexpected venues around Hong Kong provide a sonic collage that reformulates some of the city’s social peripheries from within. Through emergent sub-cultures, young artists deploy a wide range of tactics to counter the commodification and politicization of creativity, and the speculation over space in order to achieve new opportunities in a “bureaucratic society of controlled consumption.” In his work on everyday life, which focuses on the resistance of (extra)ordinary people to structures of power, Michel de Certeau makes reference to the idea of “silent discoverers of their own paths in the jungle of functionalist rationality.” The main actors of this essay, despite feeding on and actively participating in Hong Kong’s consumerism dynamics by taking references from social media, e-commerce, or shopping malls, produce “wandering lines”—or wandering sounds—with their own (syn)tactics through their artistic practices. Notably, in Hong Kong’s reductionist bureaucratic system, with a strong predominance of statistics and evaluation focused on “classifying, calculating and putting into tables,” these artistic rituals and reinterpretations of the city’s culture often remain overlooked or hidden to the system.

Streszczenie:
AbstractThe container revolution in the last decades of the 20th century determined the arise of container ports. They further evolved in the so-called third-generation ports, becoming generators of value added due to the manipulation of goods in transit. The increase of value added in third-generation ports is amplified in core ports connected to TEN-T/RFC corridors, where Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and the three pillars of smartness (ICT, Transport and Energy) are present. The paper deals with time-series models for the estimation of economic impact of a SEZ in an underdeveloped region of EU. The test case is the Calabria region (Italy). SEZ in Calabria has its fulcrum in the industrial area close to the transhipment hub port of Gioia Tauro. The economic impacts of the SEZ were quantified through two variables: exports and employment of industrial firms settled in Calabria. The comparison of two scenarios (Do-Nothing scenario and SEZ) shows relevant positive impacts in the SEZ one. Future developments concern the calibration and validation of multi-variate time-series models from observations provided by worldwide SEZs.

Streszczenie:
The bioceanic Amazon corridor represents a development opportunity for the Peruvian and Brazilian economy but this economic evolution is linked to the production and use of energy. Energy is a conditioning factor of economic growth and development and the application of conventional (or alternative) energy systems is strongly influenced by both quantitative and qualitative trends in energy consumption. Decentralized production of energy is necessary, and new decentralized energy technologies based on renewable sources could provide additional income opportunities, decreasing environmental risk along Amazon corridor, and providing clean fuel and electricity. It’s necessary that the bioceanic Amazon corridors call for the application of energy systems related to the renewable local resources in coast, mountain and forest. In Peru, firewood is the principal energy source for cooking and heating and this fuel is used in inefficient combustion system that increases the impact on ecosystems. Typical Peruvian biomass source are wood, agricultural residues, agro industrial waste and municipal solid waste. The most obvious it’s the availability of agricultural and agro industrial residues that could be used as a biomass fuel source in modern plant to produce electricity. Today, there is a growing interest for ethanol production from sugar cane, but it couldn’t be applied along bioceanic corridors; therefore it is necessary to integrate other renewable sources.

Streszczenie:
The California Freight Mobility Plan 2020 lists the Los Angeles-Inland Empire trade corridor region as a prominent industrial hub experiencing an increase in freight flows. The California Freight Mobility Plan also regards automated truck platoon (ATP) as an emerging opportunity to minimize congestion on the trade corridor routes. Percentage change in accessibility from 2022 (“without” ATP) to 2040 (“with” ATP) is calculated for the eighteen industry sectors of the Los Angeles-Inland Empire trade corridor. The application of the accessibility formulation was carried out with data on travel time from I-710 and I-10 within Los Angeles County. The findings suggest that all the industry sectors have a very high positive percentage change in accessibility by transforming from “without” to “with” ATP deployment-based accessibility. In the vicinity of the prominent freight corridors of I-710 and I-10 within Los Angeles County, notably, the largest increase in accessibility above 90% will be observed for the industry sectors of Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting, Health Care and Social Assistance, Finance and Insurance, Transportation and Warehousing, and Retail Trade of the Los-Angeles-Inland Empire. Thus, these findings suggest the deployment of ATP on specific freight routes to enhance and sustain economic activity across the Los Angeles-Inland Empire trade corridors.

Streszczenie:
Interdepartmental Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU) 5170 between Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) and Transport Canada Innovation Centre (TC-IC) aims to gain new insight into slow-moving landslides, and the influence of climate change, through testing conventional and emerging monitoring technologies. IMOU 5107 focuses on strategically important sections of the national railway network in the Thompson River valley, British Columbia (BC), and the Assiniboine River valley along the borders of Manitoba (MN) and Saskatchewan (SK). Results of this research are applicable elsewhere in Canada (e.g., the urban-rural-industrial landscapes of the Okanagan Valley, BC), and around the world where slow-moving landslides and climate change are adversely affecting critical socio-economic infrastructure. Open File 8931 outlines landslide mapping and changedetection monitoring protocols based on the successes of IMOU 5170 and ICL-IPL Project 202 in BC. In this region, ice sheets, glaciers, permafrost, rivers and oceans, high relief, and biogeoclimatic characteristics contribute to produce distinctive rapid and slow-moving landslide assemblages that have the potential to impact railway infrastructure and operations. Bedrock and drift-covered slopes along the transportation corridors are prone to mass wasting when favourable conditions exist. In high-relief mountainous areas, rapidly moving landslides include rock and debris avalanches, rock and debris falls, debris flows and torrents, and lahars. In areas with moderate to low relief, rapid to slow mass movements include rockslides and slumps, debris or earth slides and slumps, and earth flows. Slow-moving landslides include rock glaciers, rock and soil creep, solifluction, and lateral spreads in bedrock and surficial deposits. Research efforts lead to a better understanding of how geological conditions, extreme weather events and climate change influence landslide activity along the national railway corridor. Combining field-based landslide investigation with multi-year geospatial and in-situ time-series monitoring leads to a more resilient railway national transportation network able to meet Canada's future socioeconomic needs, while ensuring protection of the environment and resource-based communities from landslides related to extreme weather events and climate change. InSAR only measures displacement in the east-west orientation, whereas UAV and RTK-GNSS change-detection surveys capture full displacement vectors. RTK-GNSS do not provide spatial coverage, whereas InSAR and UAV surveys do. In addition, InSAR and UAV photogrammetry cannot map underwater, whereas boat-mounted bathymetric surveys reveal information on channel morphology and riverbed composition. Remote sensing datasets, consolidated in a geographic information system, capture the spatial relationships between landslide distribution and specific terrain features, at-risk infrastructure, and the environmental conditions expected to correlate with landslide incidence and magnitude. Reliable real-time monitoring solutions for critical railway infrastructure (e.g., ballast, tracks, retaining walls, tunnels, and bridges) able to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of Canada are highlighted. The provision of fundamental geoscience and baseline geospatial monitoring allows stakeholders to develop robust risk tolerance, remediation, and mitigation strategies to maintain the resilience and accessibility of critical transportation infrastructure, while also protecting the natural environment, community stakeholders, and Canadian economy. We propose a best-practice solution involving three levels of investigation to describe the form and function of the wide range of rapid and slow-moving landslides occurring across Canada that is also applicable elsewhere. Research activities for 2022 to 2025 are presented by way of conclusion.
