Article discussed how native speakers of Indonesian observed Grice’s maxims. One hundred conversations contributed in live talk show from varied Indonesia television channels were analysed. The results show that Grice’s maxims are fulfilled in many conversations. Nevertheless, in other situations, two kinds of non-fulfilment of the maxims are observed. First, the speaker deliberately exploits a maxim, which is suitable to Grice’s theory. Second, the speaker fails to observe but does not exploit a maxim, which leads to some interpretations of the cultural patterns of the Indonesian language: communicative politeness, high context culture and the needs of harmony in communication that are considered as the manifesting of Indonesian culture.

This study aims to describe (1) compliance with the language politeness principle, (2) violation of the language politeness principle in the talk show segment in the NET Morning TV Show Indonesia and (3) its relevance to learning Indonesian in class X SMA. In this research, the data collection uses competent and free listening techniques and note taking techniques and the data presentation techniques use informal techniques. Based on the results of data analysis, the 76 principles of politeness maxim that were found in this study consisted of 14 maxims of wisdom maxims, 14 maxims of generosity, 19 maxims of praise, 6 of maxims of humility, 19 of maxims of agreement, and 4 of maxims of sympathy . The violations of the language politeness principle found in this study amounted to 25 consisting of 2 violations of wisdom maxim, 3 violations of generosity maxim, 2 violations of praise maxim, 5 violations of humility maxim, 11 violations of agreement maxims, and 2 violations of sympathy maxim. The results of the analysis in the study are relevant to Indonesian language learning in class X SMA, as stated in the basic competency syllabus (KD) 4.3, which is developing the contents of the exposition text (problems, arguments, knowledge, and recommendations) verbally and on basic competencies (KD) 4.10 namely submitting submission, offer, approval and concluding in the negotiating text verbally.

This study aims to describe language skills which are very important, one of which is the Al Ittifaqiah Indralaya Islamic Kindergarten teachers, because in communicating, all teachers are required to use polite language. In building character one of them is language, both forms of obedience and violations that exist in the utterances spoken by the teacher at the Al Ittifaqiah Indralaya Islamic Kindergarten. This study examines the pragmatic aspects of teacher language politeness in the Al Ittifaqiah Indralaya Islamic Kindergarten, the research examines speech when teachers converse during non-formal hours that take place at school and based on the types of maxims used. Language politeness was chosen because it will be used as an evaluation of the language used by the teacher. The results of this study indicate that the utterances in Al Ittifaqiah Islamic Kindergarten obtained 20 utterances consisting of 14 utterances containing politeness maxims and 6 utterances that deviate from politeness maxims. Of the 14 utterances of the Al Ittifaqiah Indralaya Islamic Kindergarten teacher's utterances which contain politeness maxims, namely: 3 utterances of wisdom maxim (21.42%), 2 utterances of generosity maxim (14.28%), 1 utterance of praise maxim (7, 14%), the maxim of humility is 1 utterance (7.14%), the maxim of response or apology is 3 utterances (21.42%), the maxim of agreement is 2 utterances (14.28%), the maxim of sympathy is 2 utterances (14.28%), Of the 6 utterances of the Al Ittifaqiah Indralaya Islamic Kindergarten teacher who deviated from the politeness maxim, namely: the maxim of humility was 4 utterances (66.67, the maxim of sympathy was 2 utterances (33.33%).

The major objective of this research is to analyze the flouting maxims in one of the Indonesian comedy movies, The Guys. This research is focused on identifying the types of flouting maxims and to seek out the reasons behind those flouting performed by Alfi character in the movie. The data for this qualitative research were collected from the utterances produced by character Alfi containing flouting maxims. They were obtained by watching the movie and transcribing the movie script to ensure that no data were accidentally left out. The data was analyzed by classifying the data into types and reasons of flouting maxims, then the researcher verified all the data to ensure that all the data matched and correctly-translated. The results of this research show that character Alfi performed all types of flouting maxims, i.e. quantity, quality, relevance and manner. Flouting maxim of manner is in the highest occurrence and flouting maxim of relevance is in the lowest occurrence. Whereas the reasons that lead character Alfi to flout the maxims are competitive, convivial, collaborative and conflictive. Concerning the reasons of flouting maxims, collaborative reason is in the highest position, and conflictive reason has the lowest position in its occurrence.

This research has objective to know deviation and compliance of language politeness principle in class discussion activity, Indonesian language subjects, in terms of word selection, and polite way of discussion to students of class VIII E SMPN 2 Kota Bengkulu and the implication in learning Indonesian language. Type of research used by the researcher is descriptive method with qualitative approach. The subjects of this study are students of class VIII SMPN 2 Kota Bengkulu, on the subjects of Indonesian language. The results of this study indicate that the data of deviation of language politeness principle consists of four maxims, including maxim of wisdom, appreciation, generosity, and simplicity. The deviation of the principle of politeness consists of the deviation of one maxim and two different maxims at once in one speech. The deviation of the principle of modality of two maxims consists of deviations of the principle of generosity of maxim of generosity and of appreciation, wisdom and generosity, and wisdom and reward. Furthermore, the data on the compliance of the principle of linguistic politeness consists of six maxims, including maxim of wisdom, reward, generosity, simplicity, consensus, and conclusions. Adherence to the principle of politeness in the form of one maxim, two maxims, and three different maxims at once in one speech. The adherence to the principle of modality of two maxims consists of adhering to the principle of maximized politeness of wisdom and generosity, wisdom and simplicity, respect and wisdom, respect and consent, and appreciation and simplicity.

This study scrutinizes Indonesian Political Language from cooperative principle perspective. The object of the study is Indonesian political language in words, phrase, clause, sentence, or discourse taken from Indonesian newspapers. The data was analyzed using Grice’s cooperative principle. The study shows that politicians ex- ploit the maxims of cooperative principles regularly. Politicians violate the maxim of quantity to express strong commitment or hide information. Giving incorrect information violates the maxim of quality to obey quantity maxim. They also vio- late the maxim of relevance by saying things, which are not germane to the topic under discussion. In a stand up comedy, the Stand-up comedian or also known as comic have to tell about their restlessness to the audience in a funny way. In order to make the audience laugh, they surely need to make the audience understand the topic being discussed. Concerning to the success of a communication, Paul Grice (19890 proposed four cooperative principles that people expected to follow; maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner (Yule, 1996). However, Attardo claims that disobeying maxims is common in a research of humor (Attardo, 1990). Thus, this study is purposed to compare the flout of maxims done by an Indonesian comic and an American comic, its joke techniques which they employ while flouting maxims to create humorous materials and the reason why they flout certain maxim the most and use certain joke techniques. This study uses descriptive qualitative method to observe the result of flouting maxims in Stand up comedy. The result finding of this study will be in a form of descriptive text. The participants of this study are an Indonesian comic named Abdur Arsyad and an American comic named Kevin Hart. The result of this study finds that the maxims each comics flout the most are different which is influenced by the difference of their nationalities and cultures. Kevin flouts maxim of quantity the most because of the influence of American culture which tend to be direct in communication. Meanwhile, Abdur flouts maxim of quality the most because of the influence of Indonesian culture which tend to be indirect in communication. Even though the maxim they flout the most are different, their flout of maxims are similarly employed all types of joke techniques which contributed to create humor. Their flouts of maxims have employed paralanguage, ridicule, satire, and politeness strategy of joke techniques. The similarity of the joke techniques employed by both comics is influenced by their ethnic background. Abdur Arsyad and Kevin Hart have different nationalities, however they have the same ethnic background. Abdur comes from East side of Indonesia, and Kevin is African-American which both are minority in their countries. Therefore, they employ the same joke telling technique to deliver the jokes. It can also be influenced by their joke materials which are similar. Both of them usually bring up the topic of the restlessness of being minority and about social criticism.

This research discusses how flouting and violating the Gricean maxims of conversation can create humor, especially the ones that are done by an Indonesian comedian named Fajar Sadboy. The data are taken from a video on Raditya Dika’s YouTube channel with the title Bisakah Fajar Sadboy jadi Happyboy? By conducting this study, the researcher aims to find the maxims of conversation flouted and violated by Fajar Sadboy to create humor, as well as to analyze those floutings and violations. This is descriptive qualitative research with purposive sampling as the technique for gathering the data. The results show there are 15 data found which consist of 7 data of flouting and 8 data of violation; 6 data of maxim of quantity, 1 data of maxim of quality, 3 data of maxim of relation, 4 data of maxim of manner, and 1 data of the combination of maxims of manner and relation.

This study examines the principle of politeness in the film 99 Nama Cinta by Danial Rifki.The aims of this study are (1) to determine the politeness principles contained in Danial Rifki's film 99 Nama Cinta, (2) to determine the relevance of Danial Rifki's film 99 Nama Cinta to learning Indonesian at Madrasah Aliyah. This study uses a qualitative description method and uses a pragmatic approach. Data collection techniques used are listening techniques, note-taking techniques, and pause or pause techniques. The results of this study indicate that (1) Language politeness in Danial Rifki's film 99 Nama Cinta found 65 data including 40 data on compliance with language politeness consisting of 5 maxims of wisdom, 6 maxims of generosity, 20 maxims of appreciation, 3 maxims of simplicity, 4 maxim of consensus, 2 maxims of sympathy. There are 25 violations in the film 99 Nama Cinta, consisting of 3 violations of the maxim of wisdom, 1 violation of the maxim of generosity, 11 violations of the maxim of appreciation, 4 violations of the maxim of simplicity, 4 violations of the maxim of consensus, and 2 violations of the maxim of sympathy. (2) Relevance in learning Indonesian at Madrasah Aliyah, at KD 4.16 Prepare a review by taking into account the results of the comparison of several review texts. The film 99 Names of Love can be relevant in this learning as a learning medium for students to be able to compose review texts according to the systematics of reviewers.

This study aims to describe the form of impoliteness in student language in the lecture process. The study was conducted on students of the Indonesian Language Tadris Departement at Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu State Islamic University (UIN). The data analysis method used is descriptive-qualitative. This study found violations or impoliteness in: 1) maxims of wisdom in 3 utterances; 2) modesty maxim of 4 utterances; 3) sympathy maxim of 2 utterances; 4) the maxim of appreciation is 4 utterances; 5) the maxim of agreement is 1 utterance; 6) the maxim of agreement is not found. This research concludes that the impoliteness in the language of Indonesian Tadris Departement students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno is found in the maxims of impoliteness, tact, humility, sympathy, appreciation, and agreement

Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) continue to decline due to habitat loss, poaching and conflict with humans. Yet, developing effective land conservation strategies for elephants is difficult because there is little information available on their foraging ecology, habitat use, movements and home range behaviors. Using the lead animal technique, 14 free-ranging, tame elephants at the Seblat Elephant Conservation Center (ECC) were observed for 4,496 hours to describe their foraging ecology and diet. The majority of their daily activity was feeding (82.2 ± 5.0%), followed by moving (9.5 ± 4.0 %), resting (6.6 ± 2.1%) and drinking (1.7 ± 0.6%), and individual activity budgets varied among individuals for all activities. At least 273 plant species belonging to 69 plant families were eaten by elephants and five plant families of Moraceae, Arecaceae, Fabaceae, Poaceae, and Euphorbiaceae were most commonly consumed. Elephants browsed more frequently than grazed, especially in the wet season. Levels of crude protein, calcium, phosphorus and gross energy in plants eaten by elephants in Seblat appeared adequate for meeting the nutritional requirements. Home range size of an adult female elephant in the SECC during 2007–2008, was 97.4 km2 for the MCP and 95.0 km2 for the 95% fixed kernel. There were no relationships between average monthly elephant home range sizes or movement distances with rainfall. Distances to rivers and ex-logging roads had little effect on elephant movements, but vegetation productivity, as measured by the Enhanced Vegetation Index, did affect elephant movements. We used resource selection and compositional analysis habitat ranking approaches to describe adult female elephant habitat use in the SECC. The elephant used medium canopy and open canopy forests more than expected; however, during the day closed canopy forests were used more than at night. Locating and capturing wild elephants in tropical rainforest environments are difficult and high-risk tasks. However, using tame elephants improves the search efficiency of finding wild elephants in dense forests and reduces risks to staff and target elephants. Use of experienced veterinarians and standing sedation techniques also greatly reduce the risks of elephant injury while immobilizing elephants.

This thesis addressed various growth aspects of cultivating P. maxima in a commercial farm in Indonesia with special emphasis on the influence of the environment. P. maxima of three age-classes were grown at three sites (Ganan, Manselo and Batu Terio) and two depths over a period of 18 months and various aspects of somatic growth (linear and weight measurements), gonad growth (visual and histological observations) and factors which influence growth (environmental and biological) were monitored. Environmental monitoring of the three sites and two depths showed that seawater parameters varied spatially between sites and depths as well as temporally throughout the sampling period. Some of the parameters measured were physico-chemical properties (water temperature, salinity, pH) and particulate matter (suspended particulate matter, particulate organic matter and chlorophyll a, b and c). These environmental descriptors provide the basis for comparison of growth rates of P. maxima held at the three sites in subsequent chapters. Total growth (GT) and monthly instantaneous growth (G30) of both length and weight were computed as part of the study on growth of P. maxima. G30 is a better indicator of growth as it is a standardised measure and permits comparison to be made between various age-classes of oysters with different shell sizes as well as at a specific point in time. Growth studies showed age has an inverse relationship on P. maxima growth, with both GT and G30 decreasing with increasing age. Multivariate testing showed that growth of all age classes was affected by culture depth, but not culture site. Growth rate at a depth of 5 m was higher than at 15 m. When oysters were partitioned by size before analysis, there was a site effect on growth rate for medium and small oysters. Spatial differences in P. maxima growth was shown to be linked to the local culture environment, where variation in somatic grow was influenced by varying pH, salinity and pH levels, and gonad growth was influenced by water temperature, pH, SPM, POM. Growth of P. maxima was fitted into five mathematical models i.e Special Von Bertalanffy Growth Function (VBGF), General VBGF, Gompertz, Richards and Logistic and various growth parameters computed. The criteria used for best fit was low mean residual sum of squares (MRSS), high coefficient of determination (r2) and low deviation of the asymptotic length (L!) from the maximum length (Lmax). Based on these criteria, the Special VBGF and the General VBGF equally provided the best fit to length-at-age data for all the pearl oysters grown at the area. However, when data was plotted, General VBGF tended to underestimate L!. The Special VBGF best described the growth of P. maxima cultured at the farm, with growth parameters estimates of L! = 168.38 mm, K = 0.930 y-1, t0 = 0.126. Biofouling studies showed that six classes of macro-fouling which settled on the shells of P. maxima were invertebrates from the classes Maxillopoda, Polychaeta, Bivalvia, Demospongiae, Foraminifera and Ascidicea. The quantity and diversity of biofouling was found to affect growth in medium and small oysters. The spatial and temporal variation in quantity and diversity of the six classes of biofouling was in turn affected by various environmental parameters. Regression analysis provided information on environmental parameters acting in concert to affect biofouling while principal component analysis showed the interaction between different biofouling taxa and environmental parameter. Together, they allowed examination of the interaction between various parameters, apportionment of environmental factors towards taxa of fouling and the degree a particular environmental variable affects fouling. Chlorophyll levels, pH and salinity were found to have a greater affect on biofouling settlement than SPM, POM and seawater temperature. Macroscopic investigation of gonads and comparison to histological data in this study support previous reports that gonad colour and appearance may be used to determine sex and stage of development in P. maxima. A fundamental difference in the colour and the area occupied by the developing gametes made it possible to distinguish between the gender and various stages of development of P. maxima oysters with relative ease. While most of the oysters observed appeared to be of indeterminate sex, enough male and female oysters were observed to show that gametogenesis in cultured P. maxima occurred between August to February, with spawning occurring twice during that period; once in October/November and again in February. Sex ratio in cultured P. maxima was overwhelmingly biased towards maleness, with no spatial difference in sex ratio between oysters cultured at various sites and depths. The expression of maleness was weakly correlated to water temperature, pH and rainfall, while there was no correlation between femaleness and environmental descriptors. Size, and not age, was more important in determining the sex of P. maxima. In summary, this research presented new data on growth of different age classes of P. maxima cultured in a farm situation in Indonesia. It has added to our knowledge the importance of various environmental factors and biofouling on somatic and gonadal growth of P. maxima. This information can be utilised to improve farming management practices through judicious selection of future culture sites. It is hoped that this will form a basis for further study into grow-out of P. maxima in the pearling industry in Indonesia and South-East Asia and lead to further improvement and expansion in the industry for the future.

Discovered at the very end of the 20th century, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is a mode of natural climate variability that arises out of coupled ocean–atmosphere interaction in the Indian Ocean. It is associated with some of the largest changes of ocean–atmosphere state over the equatorial Indian Ocean on interannual time scales. IOD variability is prominent during the boreal summer and fall seasons, with its maximum intensity developing at the end of the boreal-fall season. Between the peaks of its negative and positive phases, IOD manifests a markedly zonal see-saw in anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) and rainfall—leading, in its positive phase, to a pronounced cooling of the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean, and a moderate warming of the western and central equatorial Indian Ocean; this is accompanied by deficit rainfall over the eastern Indian Ocean and surplus rainfall over the western Indian Ocean. Changes in midtropospheric heating accompanying the rainfall anomalies drive wind anomalies that anomalously lift the thermocline in the equatorial eastern Indian Ocean and anomalously deepen them in the central Indian Ocean. The thermocline anomalies further modulate coastal and open-ocean upwelling, thereby influencing biological productivity and fish catches across the Indian Ocean. The hydrometeorological anomalies that accompany IOD exacerbate forest fires in Indonesia and Australia and bring floods and infectious diseases to equatorial East Africa. The coupled ocean–atmosphere instability that is responsible for generating and sustaining IOD develops on a mean state that is strongly modulated by the seasonal cycle of the Austral-Asian monsoon; this setting gives the IOD its unique character and dynamics, including a strong phase-lock to the seasonal cycle. While IOD operates independently of the El Niño and Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the proximity between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and the existence of oceanic and atmospheric pathways, facilitate mutual interactions between these tropical climate modes.

AbstractSocial security is an essential thing needed by everyone, including employment social security for Indonesian workers. The Penggerak Jaminan Sosial Indonesia (PERISAI), an agent in social security, plays an essential role in conveying the benefits of the existing social security program to protect workers. PERISAI’s competencies play a vital role in achieving maximum results in delivering information and participant acquisition. One appropriate method consistent in determining PERISAI’s competencies is the Analytical Hierarchy Process method. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a compelling and comprehensive methodology that enables groups and individuals to link qualitative factors in the decision-making process. AHP uses a hierarchical model consisting of objectives, criteria (and several sub-criteria), and alternatives for each decision. This method was used with field surveys and field data collection to distribute the questionnaires (for this method). PERISAI’s creativity is the most influential competency in increasing the participation of Social Health Insurance Administration Body (BPJS) Employment in the Medan City Branch. In other words, in conducting recruitment for PERISAI, it is necessary to pay attention to creative competence.

AbstractThis chapter aims at explaining structures and violations of the cooperative principle in adlibs to understand its function in a radio advertisement. This adlib is a new method in radio advertisement in which radio broadcasters read and perform the advertising. Data are collected from the morning program of Gen FM radio. This research applies qualitative method in order to provide descriptive data in the form of written and oral words from observed or targeted individuals. There are two key findings in this study. First, the most often of adlibs structures is an advertisement structure without opening or greeting. It means that the radio broadcasters started adlibs without prior notification. Second, the most violated principle is Grice's maxim of relevance. The radio broadcasters deliberately contravene the maxim of relevance that radio listeners do not think they are listening to an advertisement. Therefore, a radio broadcaster must have skill to deliver adlibs as natural as possible. This research shows the current conditions of radio advertisement from the perspective of linguistics. The success of adlibs radio advertisements relies heavily on the ability in manipulation discursive and pragmatic aspects of language and communication.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the main pillars of a country economy, especially within developing countries. These types of businesses have existed since the Dutch colonial era. However, their existence is now threatened due to the rapid expansion of modern businesses that have spread into rural areas of Indonesia. Therefore, SMEs are in dire need of government assistance from both central and local governments, from a financial and non-financial perspective. In order to strengthen the SMEs' capital, so that they are able to sustain their businesses, this chapter intends to propose a financing model for SMEs that could be given by the government through financial institutions, so that SMEs will be able to gain easy access to capital resources. In the other words, this condition is expected to give maximum support to the development of SMEs. As a result, the SMEs will contribute to eradicating unemployment and poverty by strengthening the economy of Indonesia.

DISTANCE protocols and MIKE Survey Standards were used in the field to determine Critically Endangered (CR) (A2c) Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) occupancy, density and abundance in Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP). Forest and habitat type, age, character, and integrity were the most significant factors affecting elephant occupancy. Principal forage types relative to elephant activity were palms and lianas, which dominated significantly in undisturbed primary forest. DISTANCE model density D=0.167 elephants/km-2 (95% CI=0.106–0.262), best-fitting occupancy Ψ=0.6321 (SE±0.0010) and detection probability p=0.6225 (SE±0.0001) estimates combined yielded N=407 elephants (95% CI: 258–638) in GLNP. The most parsimonious occupancy model estimated N=392.82 elephants (SE:±30.65; 95% CI: 332.78-452.95) in GLNP. Forest restoration, ecosystem protections, and conservation plans for Asian elephants, biodiversity, and forests are suggested in this study.

The Neogene (23 – 2.6 Ma, including Miocene and Pliocene epochs) is a very important period for Indonesian geology. In this period Indonesia got its present configuration and became the main time controlling the geological setting for the occurrences of energy and mineral resources, as well as geologic disasters. There are important differences in the geological evolution of the Neogene between the western and eastern parts of Indonesia. In Western Indonesia, the outline of the evolution is that transgression occurred in all basins with maximum transgression occurred by the end of early Miocene. Then followed by compression and inversion tectonic events as well as regressive sedimentation from the mid-Miocene to the Pliocene in Sumatra, Natuna, Java basins; while deltaic sedimentation characterized the period in eastern Borneo basins. Volcanism became an important element in the Neogene for Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda. In Eastern Indonesia, during the Miocene there was drifting of terranes and their syn-drifting sedimentation, then the terranes collided and were fragmented in the Miocene-Pliocene followed by the formation of regional strike-slip faults, subduction rollback, and the opening of the Banda Sea. The period was also characterized by post-collision molassic sedimentation into the foreland basins. These geological events strongly controlled the petroleum system in every basin in Western and Eastern Indonesia. Although some elements of the petroleum system are Paleogene or Pre-Cenozoic in ages, most of the petroleum system processes associated with final trap formation, petroleum generation, migration, accumulation, and preservation of accumulation occurred in the Neogene. The deltaic basins of Kutai and Tarakan in Western Indonesia and the carbonate basins in Eastern Indonesia (Salawati and Banggai) have their proven petroleum system elements and processes within the Neogene period. Thus, studying the geological evolution and its implications for the petroleum system in the Neogene is very important. The knowledge of this can be applied particularly to less explored basins in Indonesia which are geologically analogue to the productive basins.

Abstract Indonesia is actively studying its shale resources’ potential to be developed. In contrast to other countries that have succeeded in developing their shale resources, Indonesian shale potentials are generally located at an active tectonic margin and are of younger ages (Cenozoic Era). This condition raises questions about the sustainability of its mechanical properties and development technique. Following our previous research, this paper presents the results of rock mechanical tests on shale from North Sumatra and South Sumatra Basins. The shale samples were prepared and tested by a rigorous multi-stage triaxial procedure. Eight (8) plugs representing the Baong and Belumai Formations of the North Sumatra Basin and eight (8) plugs representing the Talangakar and Gumai Formations of the South Sumatra Basin were prepared in vertical (V), horizontal (H), and 45° inclined (I) orientation relative to bedding. The test stages can be broadly categorized as the hydrostatic stage, triaxial stage, failure stage, and sliding-re-sliding stage. All the tests were conducted at a maximum confining pressure of 30 MPa to compare the results with results of our previous study and results from U.S. Shales. The tested shale plugs possess higher porosity than U.S. Shales for a given clay + organic matter (OM) content. Regarding rock strength, the analyzed plugs show a correlation with clay + OM content and inter-granular porosity. For the elastic properties, Young's modulus shows a decrease with clay+ OM contents, unlike the Poisson Ratio, which does not offer a clear trend. Meanwhile, creep compliance clearly shows the inverse trend of Young's modulus. The anisotropy of elastic properties is demonstrated by sample orientation, where the horizontal sample is the stiffest, the vertical sample is the softest, and the inclined sample is in between. Generally, the mechanical properties of the plug samples from Baong, Belumai, Talangakar, and Gumai Formations coming from two tertiary basins in western Indonesia show a relationship with clay+ OM content, in line with U.S. Shale data. However, regarding compressive strength and Young's modulus, the relatively younger western Indonesian samples show lower values than most. The novelty of this study is to report and analyze, for the first time, the anisotropy elastic properties of Indonesian shale samples by incorporating inclined-oriented samples in addition to the vertically and horizontally oriented samples. The results of this study also supported the mechanical maturity hypothesis from our previous research. Nevertheless, it needs to be tested further by analyzing samples from the eastern Indonesian basin, which generally has older source rocks (Mesozoic Era).

Abstract During the period of 2005 to 2020, the oil prices reached the highest level in 2008 (99.67 US$/bbl) and the lowest level in 2020 (39.16 US$/bbl). The fluctuation in oil prices will affect the expenditures for both investment and production in oil and gas projects. Based on this condition, the standardization of the costs of investment and production is needed to help the government and contractor in estimating the costs needed in an oil and gas project. As of December 2018, 471 projects (POD) have been approved by the government of Indonesia. All of them are projects that produce oil (oil projects) and gas (gas projects). In these projects, details of operating (Production) costs are included in the economic evaluation. For the purpose of this paper, Indonesia was divided into 2 areas (Onshore and Offshore). Each of the areas had 2 different types of projects (oil project and gas project). Then, to collect the data related to the cost of production and reserves, the maximum cost of production per BOE was calculated and produced using the Control Chart Analysis method. Lastly, the result was distributed to those aforementioned areas. Based on the evaluation and analysis of the cost of production from 273 oil and gas projects in Indonesia, oil and gas projects in Indonesia are economically acceptable as the maximum cost of production (US$ per BOE) is still far below the oil price (~65 US$/BBL). The following is the estimated Maximum Cost of Production generated in Indonesia: Onshore – Oil Projects (28.00 US$/BOE), Onshore - Gas Projects (12.27 US$/BOE), Offshore - Oil Projects (21.20 US$/BOE), Offshore - Gas Projects (15.95 US$/BOE). Finally, this paper will show how to produce the maximum cost of productions per BOE using control chart analysis. This paper is expected to provide references (method) for the government of Indonesia in giving approval to the cost of production proposed by contractors. In addition, this paper may provide contractors with a quick look at oil and gas industry in Indonesia, especially those who plan to invest in Indonesia. It may also help them create their petroleum exploration and exploitation strategy in Indonesia if they take this information into consideration, which will benefit both the government and contractors.

Abstract Medco E&P Indonesia (Medco E&P) operates offshore platform in Natuna Sea. The recent development in Natuna Sea is for marginal field. In case development of marginal field using wellhead platform concept, the challenge in built offshore platform in Natuna sea which has harsh environmental metocean and water depth range from 70 m – 100 m is limitation of crane barge for installation of offshore jacket platform. With metocean criteria and water depth in Natuna Sea, the minimum jacket weight using conventional design is about 1000 ton lifting weight, in 2019 during the Medco E&P Project executed, there is no crane barge with Indonesian flag available in market, the maximum crane barge capacity in Indonesia is 600 MT – 800 MT lift weight. Therefore, Medco E&P team should find substructure new technology for lightweight structure which could be installed by available crane in market to achieve fast track and optimized project cost for marginal field development. The new technology is required to overcome the challenges for marginal field development which requires fast track and low capital project, modular braced monopod has been selected through qualitative and quantitative assessment done amongst 6 lightweight substructure technologies during select phase. Executing project with this new technology, requiring specific project and construction strategy as well as comprehensive assessment on installation procedure and acceptance criteria. The concept of modular braced monopod has benefit in lower offshore lifting weight so require only small crane barge. The jacket consists of several parts which the maximum lifting weight for jacket component is 380 MT only. The modular braced monopod platforms for two fields in Natuna Sea has been installed and operated normally since December 2022, the project has successfully installed 1st modular braced monopod platform in Indonesia with maximum offshore lifting weight around 380 tons only for water depth 79 m compare to non-lightweight structure such as 4-legged platform for similar water depth might requires 2000 – 3000 tons crane barge capacity, the technology has supported for project cost optimization and suitable for tight schedule. The installation of modular braced monopod in the project is the fastest installation compared to other zeepod installation. Area of improvement has been documented and some recommendations for future application to be shared so that allowing better project development for other marginal project. The success story from this project will describe journey in technology selection, risk identification and mitigation, managing interfaces, high standard quality of construction and installation work, as well as providing some lesson learned to organization in executing new technology in offshore platform project.
