In light of rapid changes in technology known as Industry 4.0 (IN4.0), this study aims to examine how Indonesian employees perceive the HRM function is being implemented in their organizations using the Ulrich Multiple Roles of HR model, and whether they believe the HR roles are effective to address the challenges of IN4.0. Cross-industry data was collected from 160 respondents representing five priority industries: food and beverages, automotive, electronics, textiles, and chemicals. Through descriptive and factor analysis, results show that the HR function in Indonesia is still widely administrative in nature, and being an agent of change is the least performed HR role. In addition, the results indicated that the HR roles in Indonesia are changing towards a more strategic direction even though the change is slow. HR practitioners must heed the expectations of employees to ensure there are interventions that can be implemented to prepare human capital for IN4.0. This is the first type of research that examined how Indonesian employees perceive the HR roles in Indonesian industries are being performed, adding to the scant literature on HR roles in an Indonesian context, and addressing the need for relevant studies on the impact of IN4.0 and HR roles.

Streszczenie:
The Indonesian manufacturing sector faces significant challenges in its attempt to upgrade and remain competitive in both domestic and global markets. Indonesian manufacturing firms are increasingly integrated into global markets via global value chain ties. Yet, little is known about how such involvement impacts upon the ability of Indonesian firms to upgrade. This study aims to understand the nature of upgrading processes within the Indonesian manufacturing sector through a comparison of the Indonesian garment and consumer electronics manufacturing firms. To gain a better understanding of upgrading processes, this study integrates the conceptual frameworks of technological capability (TC) and global value chains (GVC) in its analysis. While the GVC literature provides useful insights into the role played by global value chain leaders in assisting, or constraining, through the ways in which they govern value chain ties, the upgrading processes of local producers, the TC framework gives a valuable understanding of the role of capabilities of local manufacturing firms and their ability to undertake upgrading processes. By combining these two frameworks, this study asks the following question: what roles do governance and technological capability play in upgrading processes within the Indonesian garment and consumer electronics value chains? To address the research question, this study gathered both quantitative and qualitative data through surveys and in-depth interviews of Indonesian garment and consumer electronics firms. Firm level case studies are analysed to obtain detailed insights into the process and dynamics of upgrading, value chain governance and capability acquisition undertaken by Indonesian garment and consumer electronics manufacturing firms. Based on the evidence drawn from the survey and eleven case studies within the Indonesian garment and consumer electronics sectors, this study suggests that forms of value chain governance and types of technological capability both play important roles in upgrading processes. Furthermore, upgrading processes and dynamics take place not only in global value chains but also in domestic value chains. Insertion into domestic value chains may, in fact, promote the ability of some Indonesian garment and consumer electronics manufacturing firms to undertake functional upgrading. By demonstrating that the technological capability of the Indonesian garment and consumer electronics manufacturing firms can play an important role in upgrading especially when firms are engaged in domestic value chains but is less pronounced when firms are engaged through hierarchical ties into global value chains, the study provides a more dynamic perspective then standard studies on upgrading and value chain linkages. In terms of policy, this paves the way for a more active role of local manufacturing firms from developing countries to be recognised as contributing to upgrading processes.

Streszczenie:
Providing a broadband access anytime and anywhere is one of the visions of the future 5G network. However, deploying a reliable network connection in remote/rural areas has been a challenging task because of its wide area that needed to be covered and a low density of user compared to urban area. Different geography and traffic condition may need different system solution. In this thesis, we analyze several solutions to providing a broadband access network in practical remote and rural area in Banten, Indonesia: Leuwidamar (remote) and Panimbang (rural). Two approaches are discussed, first one is fulfilling futuristic traffic demand by having LTE System, and the second one is by having 5G System. We included three key technology components in a 5G network: occupying wide bandwidth in high frequency, applying UE-Specific Beamforming, and implementing Carrier Aggregation (CA) scheme. We also account a rain attenuation when deploying a network in high operating frequency, since Indonesia has a high rain rate thus it is important to be considered. We compared five cases of solution: Case 1 is Single Carrier (SC) LTE 1.8 GHz system; Case 2 is Carrier Aggregation (CA) LTE 1.8 GHz + 2.6 GHz; Case 3 is SC 5G 15GHz; Case 4 is SC 5G 28 GHz; Case 5 is CA LTE 1.8 GHz + 5G 15 GHz. Basedon the evaluation, in Leuwidamar scenario, Case 5 gives us the least number of BS needed in order to meet the futuristic requirement with only 1.6 x densification from the current network. In Panimbang, the least number of BS neededis offered by two cases, Case 3 and Case 5 without any additional BS needed(1x densification). However, the solution with the lowest energy consumption for both area is Case 3. This is due to the fact that the carrier aggregation scenario needs additional power to generate the second system. Furthermore, if we introduce cell DTX ability in the 5G network, the Case 3 can give us impressive amount of energy saving, with 97% saving for Leuwidamar and 94% saving for Panimbang, compared to Case 1 solution without any DTX Capability.

In 1975 Indonesian forces invaded Dili, the capital of East Timor. The invasion and ensuing occupation forced thousands of East Timorese to leave their homes and seek refuge in Australia and other countries. This study considers the situation of a particular group of East Timorese refugees: those who fled to Australia during the 1990s and who were children or young adolescents at the time of their flight. Founded upon an understanding of social identity as being constantly transformed though a dialectic relation between the individual and his or her sociocultural surroundings, this dissertation considers the consequences of refugee experiences on individual identity and belonging, as well as the processes of conceptualising self and negotiating identity within changing social and cultural structures. The relationship between conflict and flight, resettlement, acculturation, identity and attachment is explored, and particular attention is given to issues of socialisation and categorisation, age and agency, hybridity, and ambiguity. Through a qualitative anthropological methodology informed by theories of cultural identity, adolescence and cross-cultural socialisation, the thesis seeks to shed light on the various dynamics that have influenced the young East Timorese people’s identity and sense of belonging, and considers the impact of acculturation and socialisation into a new culture at a critical period of the young people’s lives.

With the development of modern science and information technology (IT), the internet has brought a lot of new opportunities for Indonesia e-commerce particularly in the fashion area. E-commerce for fashion in Indonesia has begun and is developing rapidly, it has already become one of the most popular business conducted by Indonesia sellers. However, comparing with the developed countries, Indonesia e-commerce generally has a lower development level and is still at the initial stage, still exist many problems especially in the service area. Moreover, Indonesia’s e-commerce market is a drop in the ocean compared to total retail sales, at only 0.7% (USD0.9 billion) out of USD134 billion. This number is less than the number of internet users in Indonesia, which is 50 million people. On the other hand, as online retailing grows, service quality has been identified as a crucial factor to successfully and sustainably manage online shops. In respond to this matter there is a need to advance the quality of e-commerce services in Indonesia. This study adopts the methods of both qualitative (in-depth-interview) and quantitative (questionnaire), to expound the significance & analyze the current situation for Indonesia’s e-commerce and then evaluate service quality of Indonesia apparel e-retailers. The important findings of this study are as follow: 1) four strategies to deal with competition from Indonesia e-retailers’ perspectives were identified – reasonable pricing, promotion, service delivery and service attitude; 2) responsiveness and compensation factors were found as high priority for Indonesia e-retailers in order to improve their service quality; 3) privacy, contact (the availability of assistance through telephone or online representatives) and responsiveness were considered as the most important factor from e-shopper point of view. This study is one of the first attempts to use Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) to evaluate service quality of Indonesia e-retailers for apparel. The findings provide a holistic view and bridge the gap between service and performance.

Streszczenie:
Facing the advanced Industry 4.0, where everything is closely tied to technology and is characterized by digitalization, the Supreme Court of Indonesia has introduced the implementation of e-justice by developing an electronic justice system (e-court) in 2018. The study aims to highlight the current practice of e-court in Indonesia. It also examines the existing implementation and legal provisions regulating the electronic-based court proceedings. The research method used is normative legal research. It analyzes the positive law, principles, doctrines of law, legal discovery in particular cases, legal systematics, legal comparison, and legal history. The study revealed that e-court has provided easier access to the public in order to make the court more accessible, effective, and efficient. Nevertheless, several improvements in particular sectors such as access to justice, case delays, human resource readiness, public internet facility, evidence management, and hearing session procedures need to be highlighted and updated by the court.
