The level of inbound tourism development is an important criterion to measure the internationalization of tourism, which is an important factor representing the tourism economy. Taking Anhui province as the research object, the inbound tourism development efficiency of 16 cities in Anhui province from 2011 to 2019 is analyzed with the help of the DEA model and Malmquist index, and the key factors affecting the inbound tourism development efficiency are analyzed with the OLS model. It is found that (1) the overall development of inbound tourism in Anhui province is in a high state, but there are still phenomena such as waste of resources, overexploitation, and unreasonable industrial investment, which lead to the unbalanced and insufficient development of regional inbound tourism. (2) Inbound tourism efficiency in Anhui province is influenced by the level of economic development, tourism resource endowment, accessibility, and the scale of human resources, suggesting that inbound tourism is essentially natural resource, infrastructure, and service facility driven. The study is important to clarify the path of improving the efficiency of inbound tourism, promote the development of high-quality inbound tourism, and thus achieve high-quality transformation of tourism.

Purpose Marketing has radically changed in the past few years. With the rise of digital marketing, search technology, blogging and podcasts, consumer access to information and content has exploded. This paper aims to provide a critical look at one aspect of this change, inbound marketing and the creation of content to drive engagement. Inbound marketing differs from traditional marketing by pulling customers to the firm, as opposed to reaching out through traditional advertising. Design/methodology/approach This study provides an overview of inbound marketing and illustrate three views of inbound marketing: digital, social and content marketing. Findings The study highlights the importance of consumer personae, critical content creation and customer strategies. Practical implications The study concludes with a look to the future of inbound marketing and clear guidelines for developing an inbound strategy, including understanding the buyer personas, strategic analysis and a formulized plan for inbound content creation. Originality/value This work combines traditional theoretical research and analysis to provide a comprehensive and clear illustration of what inbound marketing is and where it can be used in both business strategy and academic research.

This paper constructed a model to propose the financial crisis impact on inbound tourism. Two hypotheses are about the relationship between financial crisis and the number of inbound tourist, plus inbound tourists’ expense. This paper analyzes the number of inbound tourists and their average expenses by TRAMO/SEATS and Eviews software under the influences of financial crisis. The results show that firstly foreign exchange earnings, inbound tourist number and average expense have been reduced obviously. Secondly, the influence on average expenses is less than that on inbound tourist numbers at the end of 2008. The recovery of average expenses was faster than that of tourist numbers. Thirdly, the influence of inbound tourist numbers is greater and longer than that of average expenses. Fourthly, time length and degrees of crisis are quite different when trend curves are various. Then the paper puts forward specific countermeasures with Chinese characteristics.

The challenging concern regarding how the benefits of inbound tourism can be evenly distributed, especially among urban and rural individuals, has received considerable attention in China. To address this concern, a spatial econometrics approach is used to estimate the spillover effects of inbound tourism on urban–rural income disparity (URID). An empirical analysis using the spatial Durbin model was conducted for 31 Chinese provinces covering the period from 2003 to 2017. Our findings suggest that at the national level, local inbound tourism significantly reduces the local URID, while neighboring inbound tourism significantly increases the local URID. At the regional level, the role of inbound tourism in reducing the local URID is only detected in the western region. The spillover effects of inbound tourism are positive and significant in the eastern/northeastern region but negative in the western region. In general, these findings provide insights into the importance of interregional tourism policies and strategies for inbound tourism development in China.

Tourism is emerging as an important contributor sector to carbon emissions. As inbound tourism is the main component of tourism activities, measuring and evaluating the carbon footprint of inbound tourism can help achieve low-carbon development of the global tourism industry. Based on the carbon footprint theory, this study describes the distribution and transfer path of China’s inbound tourism carbon footprint by using the China multi regional input-output model embedded in the inbound tourism satellite account. The results reveal that embodied carbon emissions (ECE) of inbound tourism is higher than direct carbon emissions, and carbon emissions intensity is close to the average economic. Therefore, it is difficult for inbound tourism to achieve the dual goals of stimulating economic growth and emission mitigation. The ECE of inbound tourism has obvious inter-provincial transfer characteristics. Inner Mongolia and Guangdong are the largest provinces with net outflows/inflows of ECE, with net outflows of 1.47 million tons and inflows of 2.66 million tons. Besides, the ECE mainly flows from the northeast and northwest regions to the southern and eastern regions. From the perspective of industry transfer, 72.2% of ECE of inbound tourism comes from the power sector.

Based on China’s provincial panel data of the export, GDP, trade distance and inbound tourism income from 1997 to 2014, this study examines the export effect of inbound tourism in China, using dynamic panel data models and system GMM estimators. The empirical results for the estimations of the gravity equation demonstrate that inbound tourism promoted China's export through expanding the degree of opening to the outside world, shortening the cultural distance, "advertising effect" and "Marco Polo effect" of business tourism. Inbound tourism has a significant positive export effect, export will increase by 0.135 % when inbound tourism increases by 1%.

El objetivo de este artículo es determinar la influencia del Inbound Recruiting sobre la Resiliencia en postulantes a la empresa W2 Asesores y Consultores. El Inbound Recruiting es una metodología novedosa de reclutamiento y selección de personal que procede del Inbound Marketing, que está enfocado en el cliente, en este caso, los candidatos; quienes en su mayoría se encuentran en condición de desempleados, por lo tanto, con efectos negativos en el ámbito personal y social. En este sentido, es necesario comprender la influencia directa que existe entre estos dos conceptos: Inbound Recruiting y Resiliencia; de este modo puedan ser replicados por diversas organizaciones. Este estudio estuvo constituido por 314 postulantes a procesos operativos, a quienes se aplicó el cuestionario adaptado de Inbound Recruiting, y Resiliencia. El alcance de la investigación es descriptivo-correlacional. En los resultados se evidencia que existe una correlación moderada de tipo positiva (Rho = .449**; p = .000), dando a conocer que a mayores puntajes en Inbound Recruiting, mayores serán los puntajes en Resiliencia.

Cross-border flows of people, capital, and information along with inbound tourism flows can act as an important vehicle that benefits the innovation system in tourism destination areas. This study addresses the unintended but far-reaching impact of international tourism by focusing on the influence of inbound tourism on regional innovation in China. Data from 30 Chinese provinces for the years 2003–2012 are used for the empirical analysis, employing a spatial panel data model. The results show that inbound tourism may be a new and powerful driving force for regional innovation, while the effect of inbound tourism on technological innovation appears to be weaker than that on social innovation. Our findings also show that a higher market percentage of domestic tourism may weaken the impact of inbound tourism. Furthermore, the impact of inbound tourism on innovation tends to be relatively stronger in the richer and more internationally oriented provinces of China.

This article aims to analyze the impact of Taiwan’s 2008 opening policy to Chinese tourists and the effects of cross-strait relations on both Chinese and non-Chinese inbound tourists into Taiwan, with controls in place for other factors. Using annual country-level panel data over the 2000–2016 period, along with the application of the generalized method of moments approach and several static panel data models, the empirical results suggest that while Taiwan’s opening policy to Chinese tourists has had an enhancement effect, there has been no crowding-out effect on either Chinese or non-Chinese inbound tourists into Taiwan. In addition, the cross-strait relations are found to have a negative effect on non-Chinese inbound tourists, but a positive effect on Chinese inbound tourists visiting Taiwan. We conclude that, compared to non-Chinese inbound tourists into Taiwan, the Chinese inbound tourists into Taiwan is both economically and politically oriented.

The current study investigates the asymmetric effect of inbound tourism on foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world’s top tourist destinations based on monthly data for the period between 1995 and 2017. The quantile-on-quantile (QQ) approach introduced by Sim and Zhou was adopted for this study, because it assesses how various quantiles of inbound tourism affect different quantiles of FDI. Thus, the QQ approach gives a more detailed explanation of the general dependence of inbound tourism and FDI than traditional approaches, such as ordinary least squares or quantile regression. Further, the test of Granger causality in quantiles proposed by Troster et al. was also applied in this study to check the causal relationship between inbound tourism and FDI. The empirical outcomes explain that the relationship between inbound tourism and FDI is mostly positive for all countries except Mexico and Russia on low and middle quantiles, although there are significant differences throughout the nations and across all quantiles of inbound tourism and FDI.

Purpose – The inbound event tourists drawn to an Australian destination to participate in one of 14 annual international auto racing (AR) events can be sectioned to release each group’s behavioural perspectives around their tourism-related impacts on the destination. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – Inbound event tourists attending the destination are surveyed during the three-day major event. Each respondent displays non-uniform, personally driven agendas and varying degrees of local tourism acceptance. Findings – Inbound event tourists self-select into one of six psychologically framed AR sport groupings, and exhibit micro-differences that can then be used to align local tourism around future. Research limitations/implications – The authors do not consider locals attending this international series AR event, but project their destination tourism and event impacts to be less than those of inbound event tourists. Totally, 90 per cent of inbound AR event tourists each fit one of six motive groups and each group exhibits behaviours, decision-making and spending patterns which can be later optimized in preparation for the destination’s next major event. Practical implications – AR attendees self-select into just one behavioural attendance motive. Group approaches unlock new understanding of event attendees and their behaviours. Inbound event tourists spend 2 to 1 on the destination’s tourism vs its major event. Destinations targeting inbound event tourists should grow their spend ratio by bundling local tourism offerings into short length-of-stay requirements offering conservatively priced (under $100/activity), adventure focused, tourism options. Originality/value – This study links inbound event tourist groupings; acquisitions; stay patterns and spending. It captures the economic components and their relative impact on the destination. By combining all the sub-groups of inbound (and local) AR event attendees, a better representation of their economic impact on the destination can be determined.

According to UNWTO standards, tourism takes the forms of domestic and international tourism. International tourism is subdivided into inbound and outbound tourism. The statistics of inbound tourism comprises two basic sections: statistics of tourist arrivals and statistics of tourism receipts. The inbound tourism in Poland and Ukraine is researched in this article. It is interesting to analyze the inbound tourism in the neighbouring countries, i.e. Poland and Ukraine, taking into account the “split in time” similarities in the development of the tourism market in these countries, their place in the world tourist flows, as well as attempts of Ukraine to repeat Poland’s experience in its integration into the EU. The aim of this paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of inbound tourist flows in Ukraine and Poland, as well as to reveal the factors influencing tourist arrivals, receipts and profitability as the ratio of the last two. The number and structure of tourist arrivals to Poland and Ukraine in 2000–2016 are analyzed. It was assumed that tourists’ exchange between neighbouring countries probably depends on the length of common land border. To test this assumption, the criterion χ² was used, which is also called the criterion of independence, consistency and homogeneity. The receipts from inbound tourism in above-mentioned countries during the same period of time are estimated. By applying the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the tourism receipts are recalculated for the prices of 2000. The profitability of inbound tourism in Poland and Ukraine in 2013 and 2016 is calculated. The factors influencing tourism receipts and profitability of inbound tourism are described.

This study presented an overview of Bangladesh's tourism sector, which also strived to identify the opportunities and challenges that warrant policy interventions. Both primary and secondary data were used in this research. It was found that the frequency of inbound tourists' arrival showed a declining trend. The tourism sector's growth cannot keep pace with national growth domestic product though Bangladesh's global rank and score showed an increasing trend. Despite economic upsurging and vast potentiality, Bangladesh could not be a popular destination for foreign tourists. Cultural and natural resources and tourist and airport infrastructure have been identified as the disadvantaged pillars. The country cannot offer cheaper and more comfortable accommodation and transportation facilities. There is a lack of diversity in tourism events and fun-making elements. Online tourist platforms, booking, and financial transactions are not widely available and accessible. Supermall and safe food providing agencies have not been developed across the country. The study advocates for formulating a holistic national tourism policy eyeing achieving sustainable development goals. There is ample scope for developing a regional tourism hub taking Bhutan and Nepal.

Perguruan Tinggi Raharja memiliki berbagai official website, mulai dari website milik Perguruan Tinggi Raharja sendiri dan ada juga website milik setiap jurusan yang ada di Perguruan Tinggi Raharja, contohnya adalah official site milik jrursan Sistem Informasi dengan url si.raharja.ac.id, namun dalam penelitian ini permasalahan yang dihadapi adalah perihal inbound untuk website Sistem Informasi, karena dengan adanya banyak inbound tentunya akan membuat official site Sistem Informasi lebih dikenal lagi khususnya bagi para Pribadi Raharja jurusan Sistem Informasi sebagai wadah untuk mendapatkan informasi yang akurat. This study quantitatively investigated the relationship between climate change (proxied by CO2 emissions), air pollution (proxied by PM2.5 concentration levels and PM10 and SO2 emissions), and tourism flows (proxied by inbound and domestic tourist arrivals) using panel data for 30 Chinese provinces from 2010 to 2017. The results demonstrate a long-term equilibrium relationship between CO2 emissions, air pollution variables, and tourism flows (including the number of inbound and domestic tourists). The panel data model results show that CO2 emissions have an opposite effect on inbound and domestic tourist arrivals, while domestic and inbound tourists positively affect CO2 emissions. PM2.5 level and PM10 and SO2 emissions all have a negative effect on the number of tourists. There is bidirectional causality between CO2 emissions and domestic tourist arrivals, which means CO2 emissions and domestic tourist arrivals have a two-way effect. A one-way causality running from PM2.5 to inbound tourist arrivals and SO2 emissions to domestic tourist arrivals was found. Moreover, we also found bidirectional causality between PM10 and inbound tourist arrivals and PM10 and domestic tourist arrivals. Variance decomposition function results suggest that PM10 and SO2 emissions have stronger effects on inbound tourist arrivals in the long term, while CO2 emissions and PM10 have stronger power in explaining innovations in domestic tourist arrivals. The movements in the domestic tourist arrivals do significantly affect CO2 emissions in the long run. The study provides theoretical implications and guidance for achieving a healthy and sustainable tourism industry.

China’s inbound tourism grew very slowly in recent years. This study modelled China’s inbound tourism based on a gravity model with province-level inbound tourist arrivals data from 13 countries of origin between 2010 and 2016. It was found that air pollution in tourist destinations and origin regions both had significant negative impacts on China’s inbound tourism. On average, if the concentration of particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or less (PM 2.5 ) in China and foreign countries increased by 1 μ g/m 3 , inbound tourist arrivals would decline by approximately 1.7% and 3.8%, respectively. The effect of pollution in destination regions is explained by the importance of clean air as a favored characteristic of tourist attractions. The effect of pollution in tourist origin countries is explained by more awareness of and concern about air pollution by potential tourists if they live in more polluted countries. Further analysis showed that the impact of air pollution in destination regions was larger for tourists coming from more polluted and Asian countries, and visiting less polluted and more popular destinations. This study has a clear policy implication: improving air quality can be considered as a straightforward and effective way to promote inbound tourism in China. If air quality in China can be substantially improved in the future, inbound tourist arrivals have the potential to rise by at least tens of millions of person-times.

Oblique impacts between a ball and surface are a key part of many sports. Previous work has shown that a ball can slide, over-spin or roll at the end of an impact, depending on impact conditions. Inbound spin ratio was analysed to determine if it could be used to identify what is likely to happen at the end of impact for all sports regardless of surface, ball type, impact velocity, angle and spin. A predictive model, in the form of a finite element model, of a tennis ball was validated against experimental data for oblique impacts with inbound spin ratios in the range of –1 to 1. Spin ratio is defined as the product of the ball’s angular velocity and radius divided by the centre of mass velocity tangential to the surface. The finite element model was then used to determine the effect of impact conditions and ball parameters on outbound spin ratio. The study showed that for constant inbound spin ratio, outbound spin ratio was dependent on inbound velocity and angle. For constant inbound velocity and angle, decreasing the mass and increasing the stiffness of the ball through a change in material properties resulted in an increase in the maximum outbound spin ratio. Inbound spin ratio can be used to predict how a ball will rebound from a surface; however, inbound velocity and angle must be constant. Spin ratio can therefore be used to compare the impact characteristics for different ball and surface scenarios.

This study empirically examines the impact of the tourism endowments, institution quality, and its sub-components on inbound tourists in the Association of Southeast Asia Nation (ASEAN) member states using the fixed-effect model and panel data set from 2007–2017. The results show that the tourism endowment index and institution quality are essential factors that encourage inbound tourists to visit individual ASEAN member states. I further examine inbound tourists’ responses to each sub-component of institution quality. I corroborate that most of the sub-components of institution quality play an essential role in promoting inbound tourism in individual ASEAN member states. Other variables, such as China’s GDP per capita, foreign direct investment (FDIs), and single-entry visa schemes, show positive and significant impacts on inbound tourists in individual ASEAN member states. Therefore, these results aid the government and the policymakers in ASEAN member states to provide additional, appropriate tourism strategic development plans and policies.

Under the influence of the epidemic and the downturn of international trade, how to make better use of the policy advantages of the "the Belt and Road" to attract overseas students to China, so as to promote the efficiency of inbound tourism trade is an important topic that deserves attention at present. This paper uses the panel data of the number of inbound tourists to China from 2009 to 2018 to measure the efficiency of inbound tourism trade. The study found that every 1% increase in the size of international students will increase the efficiency of inbound tourism trade by 0.5704 percentage points. At the same time, international students are divided into two categories: government scholarships and fees for further analysis and research. Therefore, this paper believes that in order to improve the efficiency of inbound tourism trade, we should steadily expand the scale of foreign students in China and optimize the education system of foreign students.

Purpose – This study aims to examine the potential impact of external complementary resources on inbound open innovation and whether transformative capacity acts as a mediator in the process. If small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are to successfully implement inbound open innovation, they require injections of external complementary resources. Design/methodology/approach – Structural equation modeling was used to conduct confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate measurement model, while ordinary least squares regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses; research data are collected using surveys of 200 Taiwanese-owned SMEs in mainland China. Findings – Empirical results indicate that when SMEs seek to implement inbound open innovation, technological complementarity is the most important factor in resource complementarity. In addition, transformative capacity has a significant mediating role on the relationship between resource complementarity and inbound open innovation. Originality/value – The contribution of this paper lies in explaining the role played by transformative capacity in the process of inbound open innovation for SMEs through empirical analysis.

The authors optimize for two conflicting objectives: minimize the total service time for all the inbound trucks and minimize the delayed completion of service for a subset of the inbound trucks, which are considered as preferential customers. The problem is formulated as a bi-objective and as a bi-level mixed integer problem. Due to the nature of the former and the complexity of the latter formulation, a genetic algorithm and a k-th best based algorithm are proposed as the solution approaches. Computational examples are used to discuss the advantages and drawbacks of each formulation.

According to the data published by JTB Tourism Research & Consulting Co., for the period beginning 1990 until 2019, the growth rate of inbound tourism in Japan has shown a steady increase which resulted in an average of 11.5% every year. This encouraging development was the result of the full-fledged ‘‘Inbound Tourism Initiative’’ campaign launched in 2003, which originally aimed at attracting 10 million foreign tourists to Japan in 2010. However, it is undeniable that there were so many challenges Japan had to overcome alongside that process due to problems that arise out of things beyond control such as natural disasters and epidemics. This article discusses in detail the volatile situation plaguing the inbound tourism industry in Japan. Analyzing from one single perspective that is why people would or would not travel to Japan, this paper seeks to observe how Japan managed to realize the inbound tourism rebound after disasters and epidemics. By employing secondary data analysis, this effort aims to present data about the determinants and factors influencing inbound tourism to Japan from as many countries as possible. This work will then examine in depth the challenges and opportunities that Japan might need to deal with in addressing the impact of COVID-19 on inbound tourism by taking Malaysia as a case study.

Inbound tourism has an important impact on regional eco-efficiency. This paper uses the panel data of 31 provincial administrative units in China from 2005 to 2019; uses the improved DEA model to measure the regional ecological efficiency; and uses the panel threshold model to investigate input, output, and efficiency from the perspective of green technology innovation. Then, it explores the heterogeneous effects of inbound tourism on ecological efficiency. This paper finds that cross-border tourism has a positive impact on the ecological efficiency of tourist destinations. However, the degree of influence varies and will be changed with the level of regional green innovation. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) From an overall perspective, inbound tourism has a significant positive effect on ecological efficiency. (2) With the increase in green innovation investment and output, the promotion effect of inbound tourism on regional ecological efficiency first increases and then decreases. (3) The higher the green innovation efficiency, the greater the promotion effect of inbound tourism on ecological efficiency. Therefore, the Chinese government should encourage the development of inbound tourism, adopt greener innovative technologies that are cleaner and more environmentally friendly, and enhance the welfare effect of tourism on green economy.

Cruise ship construction is a huge and intricate heavy industry that can cause serious environmental problems. Therefore, optimal use of advanced logistics systems, to meet the demands at the lowest possible cost and unnecessary waste, has become a key issue. This paper developed two typical inbound logistics system modes based on JIT (Just In Time)-logistics policy and formulated two single-objective nonlinear models to simultaneously determine the ordering strategy under the inbound logistics system and the optimal selection strategy of two typical inbound logistics modes. Numerical experiments depicted the variations of optimal inbound logistics mode over three different kinds of cruise parts. These two models could provide insights in making inbound logistics decisions, and serve as a reference in the mass customization logistics service for cruise ship construction to control costs, which is helpful for promoting the sustainability of the cruise market.

This study aims to summarize the patterns of spatial differentiation and impact factors on tourism development. This research used the Central Plains as the study area to analyze the spatial differentiation patterns of tourism development from 2005 to 2018. The study used spatial econometric methods, such as the spatial Durbin model and the geodetector model, to explore the impact factors of tourism development. According to the results, the spatial differentiation characteristics of domestic tourism and inbound tourism were similar, and the spatial agglomeration of both had significantly narrowed. The study also found impact factors in the study have a differential influence on domestic tourism and inbound tourism, with a strong spatial spillover effect on domestic tourism compared to inbound tourism. For a long time, domestic tourism has been impacted mainly by tourism policies and economic levels, inbound tourism has been impacted by tourism policies, and the level of openness to the outside world does not have a major impact on inbound tourism. Reasonable explanations are provided for these results and policy implications are drawn.

North Bandung Cattle Ranching Cooperative (KPSBU) Lembang is a single primary business cooperative that acts as a distributor of fresh milk produced by cows owned by its member breeders. The distribution of fresh milk from farmers to cooperatives is a movement of material flow from suppliers to factories known as inbound logistics. This study was aimed to analyze the inbound logistics performance of fresh milk at KPSBU Lembang, its value added for the farmer, as well as the nutritional and microbiological quality. SCOR-AHP was used to analyse inbound logistics performance. The Hayami method was used to analyse value added of fresh milk for the farmer. Fresh milk quality indicators were total solid, protein, fat, pH, specific gravity and total plate count. Obtained data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that fresh milk inbound logistics performance at KPSBU Lembang was 92.77% (above average). The added value obtained by breeders based on concentrate input amounted to Rp. 8.464 per cow with a value-added ratio of 73.83%. The quality of fresh milk during inbound logistics fulfilled national standard SNI 3141.1.2011.

This article examines the impact of marine ecosystem quality on inbound coastal tourism in the Baltic, North Sea, and Mediterranean countries. Using marine protected areas (MPAs) and the fraction of overexploited species as a proxy for marine ecosystem quality, we apply an autoregressive distributed lag model in a destination–origin panel setup. The empirical findings suggest that the presence of MPAs and the fraction of overexploited species have a considerable impact on inbound coastal tourism. Moreover, the impact of the overexploitation index on tourism is persistent and its short-term (current) impact constitutes 65% of the long-term impact. The results underscore the importance of marine ecosystem quality for inbound coastal tourism and its overall impact that may exceed the impact of tourists’ income. We also find that government performance is crucial for inbound tourism.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate three key factors (i.e. cognitive dimensions, the knowledge-driven approach and absorptive capacity) that are likely to determine the preference for informal inbound open innovation (OI) modes, through the lens of the OI model and knowledge-based view (KBV). The innovation literature has differentiated these collaborations into informal inbound OI entry modes and formal inbound OI modes, offering an advocative and conceptual view. However, empirical studies on these collaborations are still limited. Design/methodology/approach Building on the above-mentioned theoretical framework, the empirical research was performed in two stages. First, data were collected via a closed-ended questionnaire distributed to all the participants from the sample by e-mail. Second, to assess the hypotheses, structural equation modelling (SEM) via IBM® SPSS® Amos 20 was applied. Findings The empirical research was conducted on 175 small to medium enterprises in the United Kingdom, suggesting that the knowledge-driven approach is the strongest determinant, leading to a preference for informal inbound OI modes. The findings were obtained using SEM and are discussed in line with the theoretical framework. Research limitations/implications Owing to the chosen context and sector of the empirical analysis, the research results may lack generalisability. Hence, new studies are proposed. Practical implications The paper includes implications for the development of informal inbound OI led by knowledge-driven approach. Originality/value This paper offers an empirical research to investigate knowledge-driven preferences in informal inbound OI modes.

As important modern tourist destinations, cities play a critical role in developing agglomerated tourism elements and promoting urban life quality. An in-depth exploration of tourist flow patterns between destination cities can reflect the dynamic trends of the inbound tourist market. This is significant for the development of tourism markets and innovation in tourism products. To this end, photos with geographical and corresponding metadata covering the entire country from 2011 to 2017 are used to explore the spatial characteristics of China’s inbound tourist flow, the spatial patterns of tourist movement, and the tourist destination cities group based on data mining techniques, including the Markov chain, a frequent-pattern-mining algorithm, and a community detection algorithm. Our findings show that: (1) the strongest flow of inbound tourists is between Beijing and Shanghai. These two cities, along with Xi’an and Guiling, form a “double-triangle” framework, (2) the travel between emerging destination cities in Central and Western China have gradually become frequently selected itineraries, and, (3) based on the flow intensity, inbound tourist destination cities can be divided into nine groups. This study provides a valuable reference for the development of China’s inbound tourism market.

In this article, the application of the Parent-Subsidiary Directive in respect of hybrid entities is analysed by Prof. Ton Stevens and Dr Gijs Fibbe. A distinction is made between outbound and inbound situations. In outbound situations, Member States can differ of opinion on which is the profit-generating entity: the parent company or its hybrid subsidiary. In inbound situations, where a dividend is paid to a hybrid entity, Member States can differ of opinion about the question to whom the dividend is paid: the hybrid entity or its participants. The authors describe the explicit solution in outbound situations included in Article 4, paragraph 1a, of the Parent-Subsidiary Directive. For inbound situations, such explicit provision addressing hybrid entities is missing. The authors describe how according to them the Parent-Subsidiary Directive should be applied in respect of hybrid entities in inbound situations. After a thorough analysis, they describe why in their view Member States are, for purposes of the Parent-Subsidiary Directive, no longer autonomous in the tax classification and income allocation in respect of hybrid entities established in other Member States in inbound situations.

This study aims to analyze the impacts and causal relationship between inbound tourism activities and macroeconomic variables on environmental degradation and to analyze the environmental degradation response due to shocks that occur in inbound tourism activities and macroeconomic variables in four countries with the highest international tourist visits in the ASEAN region of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand known as ASEAN-4 for Periode 1995-2015. The method used in the research is panel vector error correction model (PVECM). The results showed that inbound tourism activities positively influence in the long-term and short-term environmental degradation in ASEAN-4. Among macroeconomic variables only gross domestic product (GDP) positively affects environmental degradation in the long term and short term whereas energy consumption only affects environmental degradation in the short term. There is a direct causal relationship of inbound tourism activity with environmental degradation and environmental degradation with GDP. Impulse response function indicates environmental degradation responds negatively to the shocks that occur in Inbound tourism and GDP activities. This paper aims to model a consumer goods cross-docking problem, which is solved using metaheuristics to minimize makespan and determine the capacity in terms of inbound and outbound docks. The consumer-goods cross-docking problem is represented through inbound and outbound docks, customer orders (products to be delivered to customers), and metaheuristics as a solution method. Simulated annealing (SA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are implemented to solve the cross-docking problem. Based on the results of statistical analysis, it was identified that the two-way interaction effect between inbound and outbound docks, outbound docks and items, and items and metaheuristics are the most statistically significant on the response variable. The best solution provides the minimum makespan of 973.42 minutes considering nine inbound docks and twelve outbound docks. However, this study detected that the combination of six inbound docks and nine outbound docks represents the most efficient solution for a cross-docking design since it reduces the requirement of docks by 28.6% and increases the makespan by only 4.2% when compared to the best solution, representing a favorable trade-off for the cross-docking platform design.

Air pollution has a significant impact on tourism; however, research in this area is still limited. In this study, we applied grey relational analysis to panel data from 31 provinces in China and evaluated the relationship between air quality and inbound tourist arrivals. The study focused on provincial-level disparities for the different key air quality evaluation standards during 2009–2012 and 2013–2019. For instance, we considered PM10, SO2, NO2 and the excellent and good ratings of Air Pollution Index (API) during 2009–2012 and the additional PM2.5, CO, O3 and the excellent and good ratings of Air Quality Index (AQI) from 2013 to 2019. Results indicate that: (1) Inbound tourist arrivals are significantly and positively affected by ambient air quality, and the impact from 2013 to 2019 was greater than that from 2009 to 2012; (2) there is regional diversity in inbound tourist arrivals, and the impact of the different air quality indicators varies; (3) inbound tourists showed greater sensitivity to air pollution under the AQI standard; (4) the impact of air quality indicators on the inbound tourist arrivals shows grey relational order, and the concentration of PM2.5, PM10 and SO2 have less impact than NO2, CO and O3 on changes in tourism numbers; (5) consistency in the air quality impact on foreign tourists and compatriot tourists from HK, MO and TW varies by air quality indicators. This study highlights the need for appropriate measures to improve air quality for high-quality and sustainable development of inbound tourism.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of inbound open innovation and organizational inertia on radical innovation capability (RIC). It also seeks to explore whether the existence of organizational inertia has a moderating effect and influence on the relationship between inbound open innovation and RIC. Design/methodology/approach In this empirical research, the authors collected sample of patents in smart phone industry over the 2000-2016 period. Then, the authors examined the direct roles of inbound open innovation and organizational inertia, and the moderating role of organizational inertia by using hierarchical regression analysis. Findings Results found that cognitive inertia (CI) has a positive influence on firms’ RIC, but network inertia (NI) has a negative influence on RIC. CI also has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between inbound open innovation and RIC, but NI only has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between open search breadth and RIC. Inbound open innovation directly affects RIC. Research limitations/implications The authors collected the patent data of this study within the single industry and excluded other types of industries. And it may limit the generalization of the findings. Practical implications The paper includes implications for adopting an appropriate open search strategy and developing a better understanding of organizational inertia on firms’ radical innovation behavior. The findings suggest future directions to technology intensive industries for improving their RIC. Originality/value This study contributes to the relationship between organizational inertia and RIC within the framework of inbound open innovation.

Abstract Redirected Inbound Call Sampling (RICS) is an emerging, nonprobability sampling methodology in which calls to nonworking numbers from callers throughout the United States are redirected to a telephone survey recruitment protocol and data collection system. The use of automated, interactive voice response technologies to recruit, screen, and collect data achieves significant cost savings and greatly reduces the time of fielding a survey compared with traditional dual-frame random-digit dialing (DFRDD) surveys that use interviewers for recruitment and data collection. The implementation of RICS that we fielded resulted in respondents who match some demographics of the population about as well as DFRDD telephone surveys. However, we demonstrate some non-ignorable challenges with measurement error in certain types of questions that arise from primacy effects associated with using an interactive voice response system for data collection. We present the results of a RICS study that was designed to better understand the reliability and validity of the data these surveys generate. The investigation presented in this manuscript is a first step to evaluating if RICS can be a fit-for-purpose solution for some survey needs. Our data suggest there is sufficient promise in the RICS methodology to warrant continued development and refinement.

This paper describes the basic principles of a method developed to guide aircraft accurately down to the runway in a time-of-arrival constrained environment. The method is designed to be used in a ‘zone of convergence’ context or in any similar advanced air traffic control system characterized by the integration of control phases over an extended area on the one hand and true ‘computer assistance’ to the air traffic controller on the other; that is, assistance provided at the decision-making level through the automatic generation of guidance advisories.The method includes two closely-coupled basic components; namely, a ‘predictor’, which computes a trajectory once initial conditions and plans are known, and a ‘profile manager’, which adapts the plans to meet the time constraints and generates the guidance directives on the basis of present position, actual surveillance information, aircraft operation and route constraints.
