Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis explores the complexity of the notion of heritage from a Caribbean context, both specific and intimately linked to world movements since the sixteenth century. It examines the in-between that characterizes heritage, between the inherited dimension-perceived as an inalienable given, and the dimension constructed in the present for a becoming, manifested by what one wishes to transmit to the future generations. The heritage unfolds in the singular-collective relationship of which it invokes the imaginary world, the connections between spaces and different temporalities. It can be perceived as a barometer of the capacity of societies to fit into a communication order envisaged as an act of sharing. The proposed multidirectional perspective confronts historicized mobilizations of a patrimony that is a tool of the powers taken up in political, economic and technical convergences, in which the order of knowledge is also forged, to the social functions of heritage which refer to a quest for meaning, social bonding, resources and is part of complex territorialities. The Caribbean, a polythetic territory, presents an unprecedented point of view to question this heritage / territory couple and the problematic paradigms that its institutionalization naturalized during the period of formation of European national identities, a period correlated with the emergence of Modernity. The Transatlantic Slave Trade, the slave system based on race and then colonization, is a history associated with suffering, a complex transnational past, the sharing of which is still problematic, a legacy that no one wishes to accept, but which still impact social relations. The capacity to perform, to cope with the contribution of each one, to transmit know-how has been deployed in the Caribbean societies with and against the systems of oppression, as a form of resistance and survival, an essential vital resource from a practical and symbolic point of view. Long ago rejected from the normative space of the heritage, these legagy incorporate perceptions that are incompatible with the definitions and the fixed treatment methods of the institutional heritage articulated around the material productions. The Caribbean poetic and intellectual discourse from the years 1960-1970 was forged in a double dynamic, associating the critical deconstruction of the instituted order initiated by the first generation with an imaginary of the common space inspired by the will to revalorize the heritages, their creativity and the ability of Men to reinvent the imaginations of the world based on the Relation. This Caribbean project is here read as the proposal of a creative heritage break linked to the maling of a territory in breach with the superposition-fusion of the political, physical and cultural space imposed by the prism of the national imagination. This thesis takes as its starting point the traces of these relational dimensions in which historical constructions, multiple trajectories and territorialities intervene, and then tries to bring to light the naturalized paradigms, the inheritances and the contemporary constraints which participate in this heritage impediment which is not unrelated to conflicts arising from the treatment of the past in public space. The last movement puts this research in perspective of the observation of effective projects: the digital libraries of the Caribbean. The author analyzes the methods of construction, questions the individual and collective contexts and the multiple territorialities that intervene in these ultimate heterotopies of the Caribbean, manifestations of the Caribbean utopia. This observation makes it possible to measure the obstacles of all kinds facing actors engaged in projects that aim to shape or reveal relations between territories that are both distinct and connected and to treat the heritage both as traces of the past and as a living, dynamic phenomenon, constantly enriched by contemporary experiences

Pełny tekst źródłaDigital identities are, nowadays, used at a large scale (i.e., in public services, social medias, at work, online shopping, etc.). This brings usability issues as users are constrained to deal with multiple identities and attributes for access control and data sharing objectives. In addition, security and privacy challenges have arisen as the interacting entities, those that issue, process and collect these identities can, due to their behavior or security deficiencies, lead to identity theft, massive data collection and tracking of users' behaviors on the Internet.This thesis aims at finding the best trade-off between security, privacy and usability for identity management systems, based on cryptographic primitives. The first two contributions focus on identity management for access control and consider real identities and attributes that contain personal (e.g., age) and sensitive (e.g., biometric traits) information.The first contribution proposes a user-centric and privacy-preserving identity management system in which users keep control over their attributes. A user, that receives attributes certified by an identity provider, is able to interact, in a pseudonymized manner, with a service provider and prove the authenticity of the provided attributes while ensuring that he discloses only the minimum number of attributes. This solution is based on a new malleable signature scheme that allows users to modify the certificate issued by the identity provider on his attributes in a restricted and controlled manner. It also preserves privacy by satisfying the unlinkability property between curious service providers that try to link different transactions to the same user.The second contribution presents a new biometric authentication scheme that offers robustness and privacy guarantees. Three steps are required. First, the user physically visits the identity provider that pushes an encrypted and certified biometric template onto his smartphone. Then he remotely enrolls at a service provider, in an anonymous manner. Finally, he authenticates offline to the service provider that captures a new biometric template in order to be locally verified via the smartphone. By relying on malleable signatures, the proposed solution prevents the use of fake biometric identities and guarantees the authentication soundness. Unlinkability and anonymity are also preserved.The third contribution provides a solution to meet the need of data sharing in an identity management system. In particular, it studies the management of users ephemeral attributes in the context of proximity tracing for e-healthcare systems. The proposed solution ensures data consistency and integrity and preserves the privacy of users who share their contact information with people in proximity. Alerts are issued to users who have been in contact with infected persons. The use of a hybrid architecture, which relies on a centralized server and decentralized proxies, allows to prevent malicious users from injecting false alerts, and to prevent the linkability of contact information to the same user and the re-identification of users involved in contact with an infected person

Pełny tekst źródłaThis Ph.D. addresses the user-centric management of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) within local collectivities. It has been realized as part of a CIFRE program between SAMOVAR and Entr’ouvert. There is a strong need to provide the users of the collectivities' online service with some PII management tools for respecting their privacy when submitting online requests to their collectivities. This need is also coupled with the challenges of free software (including open access to the code, and possibility to evaluate the software's security), which is part of Entr’ouvert’s philosophy. For illustration, a realistic use case is identified for the specific context of territorial collectivities and the public administration (TCPA). It enables to establish a list of useful functional requirements, and a set of users capabilities regarding the management of their own PII. The first contribution is about a technical comparative survey of academic and industrial solutions. This survey identifies thirteen solutions belonging to four different categories, and evaluates them according to eighteen functional criteria. Eventually, the survey provides per-category synthesis and identifies an optimal solution for our use case. The second contribution proposes a solution for supporting PII management, which respects the guidelines identified earlier as part of the survey's optimal solution. It also takes into consideration the PII retrieval from third-party sources. The solution, called the PII manager, operates thanks to its three main components: [i] the Source Backend (SB), [ii] the PII Query Interface (PQI) and [iii] the PII Management User Interface (PMUI). A detailed description of each of these three components is given in the manuscript. Additionally, the user-identifier mapping performed by the PQI is identified as a critical part of the solution. It requires security considerations, as failing to verify the consistency of this mapping can enable four types of attacks. The third contribution proposes an identity-matching solution to counteract the previously identified attacks. Indeed, there is a need to verify the validity of user identity information retrieved across several PII sources. This identity-matching solution requires to identify which components of the architecture is involved in that processing, the workflow across these components to support the full processing, and to perform a security analysis of the workflow that proves its strength against identified attempted attacks. The fourth contribution is the software validation of the proposed solutions through a proof of concept. The identity-matching solution is implemented thanks to the Django template filters and Entr’ouvert’s existing User-Relationship Management (URM) tool. The PII manager is also implemented as a new component to the existing software platform. Eventually, new perspectives are drawn. For instance, this research work could benefit from upcoming protocols such as the Grant Negotiation & Authorization Protocol (GNAP). Other new perspectives include the integration of the System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) into the platform and a larger-scale software validation

In the Internet, identity is characterized by various highly patterns of self-expression on the social networks websites and on Facebook in particular. Simultaneously, the emancipation of the individual from traditional social frameworks leads that individual to construct and re-shape his or her identity which is now seen as a process of identity construction based on a search for benchmarks and relationships. The results show that in the context of brand - fan interactions, social networks websites allow new spaces for individual and collective expression that are implementing unprecedented social groups and coconstruction process. By relating distant fans, the multiplication of such links creates a social identity that can be described as "digital" and a particular form of digital capital. Through their interactions, the fans contribute to the maintenance of this capital. Fan pages and become a shared social territory, a space for co-building and their identity but also a place of confrontation identity for the fans. Depending on the brand they are fans, individuals have tendencies to intra- groupal or intergroupal comparisons

Consisting of a superposition of identities born from personal, declarative and behavioral data, this new form of identity is characterized by various highly patterns of self-expression on the DSN and in particular on Facebook. Simultaneously, the emancipation of the individual from traditional social frameworks leads that individual to construct and re-shape his or her identity which is now seen as a process of identity construction (IC) based on a search for benchmarks and relationships. These new identity issues lead to a modification in the relationship between IC and consumption. Indeed, this modification appears to have a major effect on IC through the self-image (or images) consumers are able to project. These changes are forcing companies to rethink the branding strategies they laid down back in the 50s. These strategies, focusing on the quest for consumer’s attention, endeavor to set up personalized rapports and create content that generates interaction with their targets. To this end, through its characteristics and in all its forms, DI could very well open the path to new ways of brand presence being taken into account. In the light of three theoretical proposals, DI is considered as being central to brand innovation perspectives; qualitative and quantitative analysis of data collected from young adults resulted in three theoretical contributions related to the IC modes of the contemporary individual and to three managerial input on the development of new strategies for communication on the Internet

The emergence of mobile terminals alongside digital social networks allows information to be shared from almost anywhere with the option of all parties being connected simultaneously. The growing use of smartphones and digital social networks in a professional context presents an opportunity, but it also exposes businesses and users to many threats, such as leakage of sensitive information, spamming, illegal access to personal data, etc.Although a significant increase in malicious activities on social platforms can be observed, currently there is no solution that ensures a completely controlled usage of digital social networks. This work aims to make a major contribution in this area through the implementation of a methodology (SPOTLIGHT) that not only uses the behaviour of profiles for evaluation purposes, but also to protect the user. This methodology relies on the assumption that smartphones, which are closely related to their owners, store and memorise traces of activity (interactions) that can be used to better protect the user online.This approach is implemented in a mobile prototype called SPOTLIGHT 1.0, which analyses traces stored in users’ smartphone to help them make the right decisions to protect their data

Pełny tekst źródłaStarting from the question : what cultural matters do Lebanese people use in their free time ? This PhD thesis relies on the idea of the existence of a relationship between the structure of society and cultural practices, developed by Pierre Bourdieu in the theory of cultural legitimacy. The hybrid structure of society, a concept borrowed from Melhem Chaoul, constitutes the specificity of the Lebanese context : the existence of a francophone, multicultural and provided with a large diaspora country, as well as the contemporary diffusion of digital practices, raise questions related to the definition of cultural identity. Promoting the concept of « degree of cultural adhesion » seems necessary in order to find an answer. Based on a survey of 1,200 respondents in Lebanon, 120 respondents in France and 36 in depth interviews, the study shows that young people, as opposed to the older ones, tend most towards Western culture and digital practices. The most educated people consume both Lebanese and Western cultural goods simultaneously. As a matter of fact, the consumption of Western cultural goods is facilitated by trilingualism, which is mastered by almost half of the Lebanese. Additionally it has been shown that the regional inequality of the cultural offer is not homologous to a regional inequality of cultural practices. Religious commitment as well as the position in the life cycle impact cultural practices

These groups of students and professionals in the areas of culture, information technology and communication, as well as museum hobbyists, gathered online to discuss the ties binding the digital area and museums, before pursuing the debates in real life on a regular basis. As these new ideas sank in, museum professionals began to develop actions on social networking websites (Facebook, Twitter…), focusing on involvement of online audiences. An approach tending to involve the audience is far from being new, as we can see with the Nouvelles Muséologies in the 1970’s. Thus, the intention is not only to question the renewal of museum ideologies through digital technologies. It is to link it with professional and institutional issues. The main research topic is then : how do museums’ professional habits allow the audience’s involvement ? The thesis is based on three distinct surveys and a long period of participant observation. For starters, we will deal with the analysis of two types of participatory projects : photo contests on social networking websites, and Muséomix, an event launched by a part of the museogeeks, around the motto “People make museum”, with the intent of creating digital devices on three-day periods. Then, we will examine socio-professional features of the community managers who were interrogated via a questionnaire based-survey (n=206) and semi-structured interviews. The study brings out that these so-called participatory projects do not really revitalise the place allowed to the audience in the process of knowledge co-construction. Under the current circumstances, many institutional issues are at stake. When adapting communications strategy to cultural mediation and acquiring visibility despite the ambiguous space allowed to digital technologies, the official line held by museum professionals about the audiences tend to legitimate their actions. In this way, the thesis does not only intend to reveal a gap between words and actions produced by the professionals. It supports the idea that using the argument of audiences’ involvement is one, if not the only, way to justify the deeds of a professional community which is not recognised for its scientific skills ; it is also a perspective that gives sense to their new habits in a very restrictive socio-economic context

Pełny tekst źródłaThough our research is firmly anchored within the field of linguistics, it constitutes an interdisciplinary approach as well, aiming to establish a dialogue between Interaction Analysis and Phenomenology. This research examines the complex notion of identity by defining it as a verbal, technical, and intersubjective phenomenon. The bodily, sensory, relational and social human existence is henceforth engaged in digital interaction devices inducing unprecedented modalities of intersubjectivity. Therefore, we propose to analyze the novel features of intersubjectivity involved in digital interactions. In the first part of our dissertation, the theoretical exploration, we seek to apprehend the nature of identity co-construction, the stakes of interindividual encounter understood as an intersubjective phenomenon, and the spatio-temporal characteristics of digital interactions. Firstly, through a phenomenological approach, we define the encounter as a meaningful event and we explore the phenomenotechnical properties of digital intersubjectivity. Secondly, through an interactionist approach, we focus on language and its role in identity co-construction, and more specifically on sequence organization and embodiment within physical and digital interactions. Thereafter, in the second part of our dissertation, those theorizations are submitted to a data analysis. This empirical exploration consists in studying online encounters between geographically distant participants. This study allows us to draw a topography of the spatio-temporal framework of phygital interaction, a typology of the acts of enacting existence on screen and a description of the ontological process of identity co-construction

During the research, we tried to develop a dynamic and practical description of the daily life of workers observed in “technologically dense environments” (Bruni 2005; Bruni & Gherardi 2007), who live habitually during their work activities. The “narrative” of these working environments has fostered understanding the operation of the “technological infrastructure” (Gherardi 2007) of the team in charge of managing the presence of that multinational on social media. So we observed that this technological infrastructure is completely different from those observed in the 90s of XX century by many scholars (Joseph 1994; Heath e Luff 1992; Suchman 1997; 2000; Star 1999; Grosjean 2004). This difference translates almost in an anthropological and social change which is evident in the way they work and represent themselves at work

Pełny tekst źródłaOn the basis of this analysis, we propose to take into consideration the digital identity as a complex process of construction, which may be regarded from several angles. In a constant mutation, a variety of stakeholders present in the Internet perform different roles in the on line individual's construction identity. On the one hand, an emergence of social web converts the user, in the form of a social media profile, into a multi-positional actor ( sender, transmitter, receiver, etc.) and gives him/her a relational identity as well. On the other hand, the constraints imposed by the net and the issues placed in different levels of analysis may suggest to review the horizontal hierarchy between nodes, being these ones the web's minimal units which in turn are embodied by the users. Therefore, could a node be social ? The digital interactive communication could it be based in presumptions excluding the individual ? Beyond the relational identity of social web, could it be conceived a digital identity equivalent to the real identity of an individual on any society? Conditions, premises and the confluence of different digital praxis are indeed the elements to be analysed in order to find suitable answers to our general problem. Certainly, the criteria to take into consideration a concept such an identity, and the preservation of user's real identity as a citizen are the main axis of our analysis. This doctoralresearch aims at examining these Vietnamese identity phenomena from a triple particular stance: ininvestigating the construction of social imaginaries of what “Vietnam” and “be Vietnamese” meantoday, through digital exchanges between national Vietnamese and diasporic Vietnamese. Two recentsocial phenomena, namely the song Hello Vietnam and anti-Chinese demonstrations relative to theSino-Vietnamese conflict about Paracles and Spratleys islands, are then viewed as the places ofconstruction of contemporary digital Vietnam-nesses. These-ones, investigated in a communicationalapproach, that links together three dimensions of a social reality, that is technical, social andmeaningful, proved to be plurial, heterogeneous, “ideological” as well as “utopian”, in Paul Ricoeur’ssense. Pełny tekst źródłaThis work presents my PhD thesis over the influence of anonymity on participation in online environments. The starting point was the observation made during the design of an online platform for informal caregivers, where I realized that it was unknown to us which practical effects an anonymous identity would have on the participation. This work contains the subsequent literature review, which was synthesized into a model showing which participation factors might be influenced by anonymity. We conducted three studies on existing online environments: One on Youtube, where there was a change in the comment system forbidding anonymous comments, one on Quora, where users can opt to answer questions anonymously, and one on Hacker News, where users choose how many identity factors they present and which name they use. The result of these studies are that, contrary to what the literature would suggest, 1) anonymity did not result to impolite and uncivil discussion, and 2) other factors than anonymity have a stronger influence on participation, and that 3) anonymity can make the effect of social signals visible, e.g. text properties like length which influences social appreciation. Additionally, we observed that participation is linked to profile completeness, and that an established web presence elsewhere limits participation. The implications of these results are a confirmation of the Social Identity Model of Deindividuation Effects, in its interpretation that anonymity can have positive effects on group identity

Pełny tekst źródłaThe digital identity has become one of the most important immaterial values in everyday life, the personal and academic reputation, the professional profile, but even more than that, the freedom to be on the web without to be afraid of the usurpation of our identity is the inspiration of this thesis work. In the digital world, borders no longer exist, interactions with people around the world are becoming more common, e-commerce, social networks, online procedures, information exchange between countries and governments, and also personal relationships in mobile applications, this is also the reason for being a comparative law study between Mexican, French and American law. In the first part, we develop the elements of digital identity, the personal data included in the whole of this concept which is both misunderstood and therefore poorly protected but also very important in the development of the digital economy. The second part, understands the interpretations of digital identity in the field of criminal law administrative law and civil and commercial law. In particular, there are differences between the interpretation of the criminal law of identity as protected legal property; in comparison with interpretations of the administrative law that protects the digital identity as personal data, the implementation of international recognition of the right to the protection of personal data and becomes the regulation that defines the rules of their treatment, thus imposing sanctions on the unlawful treatment and on the other side the civil right which a party recognizes the right of the personality and the right to the personal image. The third part is dedicated to the study of digital identity as a source of evolution of the law, as well as to the attacks on all the elements that are part of this identity. Law is always behind innovation and yet, alongside the evolution of humanity, inventions, technology and development, there is the evolution of illicit acts and means of committing crimes in the world digital environment. Even though the phenomenon of identity theft is not new, it has overcome in the world in the last five years thanks to new technologies that allow to create, modify, alter, falsify, reproduce and disseminate personal data, photos and identifiers in a very fast and global way, which allows to sell in the deep web full of personal data for later to make different types of illegal use, including identity theft. As the new technology is used for the sophistication of illicit activities, there is a work of computer security companies to fight technically against attacks on information systems, networks and information, especially data breaches of personal data, so at the end of this part we do a study of digital tools created for this purpose

Originally designed for the private exchange, this social network has also become a place to access, share and comment the news. These practices are analysed through three inputs: the specifics of the technical device, the relation to politics by participants, and, finally, the role of gender in speaking out on Facebook.This work is based on a comparative analysis of participation around political events on selected Facebook media pages and on personal profiles of the social network. The methodology is based on an online ethnographic observation and on qualitative interviews.The main results show that political events lead to reactions based more on emotion than on rationality and on opinion camps clashes. These debates mainly take place on the media public pages while the timelines are rather dissemination areas, by sharing news. Women manifest as much as men their interest for public issues and Facebook is a common area to express indignation. Despite asserted opinions, women get involved in more moderate forms of interaction unlike men who are more invested in conflictual exchanges. In a sense, if Facebook contributes to an extension of the public space, participation remains limited and does not akin to discussions that are likely to revive democracy

Despite the complexity and diversity of studies on social networks both theoretical and practical regarding the way the members of professional social networks interact, the studies related to organizational attractiveness and membership identification in the context of e-recruitment is scarce remains limited. In this research, the social capital theory has been considered in order to better understand the impact of social identity, social trust, virtual word of mouth, the social networking platform and the mediating role of information quality on organizational attractiveness as an employer. In addition to the literature review, a first complementary study was carried out on the basis of 8 semi-directive interviews with human resources managers to obtain their opinions on the various stakeholders who integrate the use of these networks in their practices. A quantitative study was carried out on the basis of 288 individuals currently living in France and Canada who are present on professional online social networks in order to measure the impact of identified factors that influence the organizational attractiveness. The obtained results allowed us to understand the importance of social networking, the attractiveness of social networks sites and also the mediating effect of information quality on the organizational attractiveness as an employer, organizational prestige and intention of individuals to pursue job offers on these platforms

The study of the digital identity (DI) is a solution for its anaiysis. Our thesis aims at clarifying the DI ; measure the impact of digital consumption on the identity balance of individuels and thus identify the place of the DI in this link. We focus on adolescence, an age that combines an anchor between identity and technological ease. A qualitative study (n=33) reveals that the DI of an individual is its digital DNA, correlated or not with his real identity. It consists of four strands: the thoughts of the individual, its shares, its communications and its representations. The quantitative study (n=1335) stipulates that the measurement scale of the DI is divised in four dimensions. It identifies that the DI is the mediator of the relationship between the digital environment and the real identity. It states that there are five DI profiles that are created by practices. This thesis shows that the digital identity is an element on which marketers can rely on to do business by working on the dimensions of the measurement scale or identified profiles: Virtual reputation-Narcissist profile (product placement, brand content), Digital multiplied Self-Ultra-digital profile (user experience, virtual possessions) ; but also on new practices: e-sport, twitch. As a place of sociability, The Company sees its borders questioned. The web is a plural space where all opinions can find their place, this is a unique specificity of digital culture. Through social networks, individuals have adopted the notion of community to designate relations between them, centered on the authenticity of a collective project, in the sense of co-building a digital life. However, access to information is reciprocal and requires a counterpart from both users and social platforms. Interactionist theories have a dominant role in our understanding of the concept of digital identity. These have in common the importance of the circulation of information in the identity construction process. The production of digital « traces » involves the employees of an organization in a moving environment in which the symbolic borders are porous, even if the perimeters are delimited by a framework of use. The online reputation is a phenomenon in which firms find themselves faced with strategic needs to constantly affirm or reaffirm a web ecosystem proposal, in relation to their digital identities to make sense and produce a shared dynamic. Moreover, a web ecosystem involves taking into account the technical and social innovations that allow individuals to form groups and self-organize. Setting up a web ecosystem can then lay the groundwork for a digital culture promoting innovation. Thanks to a long empirical study carried out within the CIFRE agreements, our research work consists of reporting on the issues surrounding the implementation of a web ecosystem and proposing a model to define it

This context highlights the necessary attention paid to the loss of autonomy of seniors : cost and availability of retirement homes, management of dependency by family and by public policies, etc. The Silver Economy offers technological answers to these social and political problems, by developing many digital products dedicated to reducing the loss of autonomy among seniors. However, these solutions do not always seem to pay sufficient attention to the reality of elderly people. First, technologies do not seem to take into account the expectations and the needs of this population, such as the plurality of their profiles. Moreover, technologies to maintain autonomy do not seem to be adapted to their digital skills and knowledge. Finally, we can question the non democratic potential of digital technologies dedicated to health, considering their high cost whilst the number of retired people living under the poverty line has increased. In our study, we proposed a mixed approach, combining sociology and the information and communication sciences (CIS). Thus, we undertook a prospective study, whose purpose was to apprehend and to understand the current usage of digital technologies among retired people over 60 years old. Our aim was to highlight how seniors use digital devices and services, in order to verify if they are in line with the forms of technological management existing to support their autonomy. To do so, we used a qualitative methodology and surveyed 31 retired users living in Aquitaine. The results of our survey reveal totally disparate levels of digital literacy, influenced by many factors, such as age, contexts of learning, degree of sociability, biographical trajectories and self image. The use of digital technologies is deeply linked to identity processes, whether they are oriented towards biographical rupture or continuity, in relation to the past, the present and the future of the users. Technologies contribute to new forms of sociability, taking over classical ways of social bonding. Internet search practices, on the other hand, allow the user to develop a new self image. We conclude on the necessary adaptation of digital technologies to its identity appropriations of the elderly users

Adhering to a comprehensive approach, this research seeks to highlight the significations and the meaning systems related to the use of digital media tools, at a macro-social and a micro-social scale, to explain causally the importance we ascribed to this specific category of objects. The dynamics at work, both at an individual or collective level, are examinated in a socio-logical way, alternately with an historical, philosophical, economical, political, or socio-cultural point of view. This special status would be justified by the transformation resulting from the data processing. However, by defining personal data as "information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, directly or indirectly", the law of 6 January 1978 suggests that they are in fact connected to each other. Therefore, those data are to be understood as identifying elements. Following the interdependence of subjective and objective elements, they are components of identity. They form the person’s digital identity, which is increasingly solicited and gathered. The intuitive assumption of personal data as components of identity is thwarted by French positive law, within which the Data Protection Act marks its autonomy in comparison to Article 9 of the Civil Code – the latter being the matrix of rights related to personality. The same way, protection of personal data is distinguished from protection of privacy in the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights. This increasing autonomy allows the accelerated conversion of personal data into assets. In a multitude of conventions, they are regarded as isolated elements of which processing is allowed. Yet the split between the person and their data could be avoided: protection of the autonomy of the person can ensure a connexion. The European Court of Human Rights considers data protection as part of the right to privacy, hence asserting the existence of a link between personal data and identity of the individual. Moreover, its case law regarding the protection of personal autonomy may constitute an answer to the objectification of individuals. Correlatively, the French Constitutional Court has already taken data protection as a part of personal freedom, the latter being considered in its case law as the embryo of the right to the development of personality and the protection of identity. By taking identity as the starting point of a study examining a right to data protection, it is possible to reveal the stakes of exponential gathering of personal data and ensuing profiling: the autonomy of the individual. Pełny tekst źródłaThis dissertation with how self-stereotyping can be used as a strategy for balancing the needs for assimilation and differentiation in an asymmetrical intergroup context. In the first part, we show that, in case of numerical asymmetry, individuals can reach optimal distinctiveness by changing in-group oerception about in-group typical traits. Compared with majorities, minority members increase perceived in-group homogeneity and describe themselves in a more stereotypical way. In the second part, we show that, when asymmetrical categorization is defined simoultaneously at two levels of inclusiveness, balancing numerical status at different levels of categorization can be an effcient strategy to obtain optimal distinctiveness. Minority members tendency to increase sub-ordinate in-group homogénéity was confirmed only when in-group status was the same at the two levels of catagorization. This effect was not observed anymore when both statuses were inconsistent, or when the superordinate categorization was symmetrical. This suggests that balance between needs for assimilation and differentiation may be reached when a superordinate re categorization leads to loose (for the majority), or to escape from (for the minority), the subordinate numerical status

This work is based on a wide range of authors and thoughts from the seventies till today’s ones, in order to discuss the main issue. Indeed, the social media that turned from startup to multinational companies throughout the years 2000’s, have dramatically changed the landscape of media and communication among individuals. Starting from this observation, one has to ask the question of whether social media, has a direct influence on teenagers’ identity and social construction. This study demonstrates in fact, how Online identities are made thereafter, a key factor of youths’ social and identity representation. The student adapts his identity and his data within his digital spaces according to the reception produced and then acquired of the devices innovations. By framing the collected data from students within the assumed assumptions frame, future prospects are made out. As a matter of a fact, digital knowledge of the religious fact circulating on Internet, is an important element in the identity construction of students. It is in digital spaces that students develop the data identities. First they do it actively through the use of social and digital media, then passively through cookies and recommendations made by algorithm. The growing role of Internet in the identity process, with the massive use of social and digital media applications better mastered by students, raises a number of educational and pedagogical issues. This profession is rather recent, and has experienced three major crisis during the last twenty years. Each of those crisis has seen the closing of half these recruitment agencies. At the end of each crisis the same number of firms has been recreated. This market as a whole could eventually appear as everlasting. However major changes are on the way. There are many reasons to explain that : from a demographic point of view, there is a lack of executive profiles ; the relationship to work is definitely changing, the consequences are new behaviors, and the phenomenon is amplified by a generation gap never seen before. Finally, in the center of this reflection, the development of new technologies also bring changes in the practices that had previously not changed that much. In a system of supply and demand of job defined as congruent, recruitment firms have never really had to make any efforts to cope with the situation. The combination of all factors in the new environment creates a "dyssynchrony". This new organization will require the implementation of new info-communicational practices the professionals will have to take into account. Banks are particularly present and young graduates are exposed to this massive communication. Identity construction characterizes this social and paradoxical phenomenon involving multiple actors. Our issue thus seeks to understand how young graduates receive the digital recruitment of banks. We have invested the theoretical framework of social representations and conducted a literature review on communication strategies of banks and varied behaviors of young graduates. This preparation of the field of research allowed us to make assumptions about influence of social representations in this communication situation. The complexity of the studied reality has favored the adoption of a qualitative methodological approach. For the goal of reflexivity, we crossed the data of focus groups and self-confrontation interviews. In the same way, a qualitative and thematic treatment was combined with a quantitative treatment by the lexicometric approach. The main results concern the understanding of the cognitive mechanisms of reception of data from the Web in the context of recruitment. They integrate social representations of the size of the organization and digital communication devices. In addition, we have highlighted several receptor profiles. This research highlights paradoxes related to the implementation of an employer brand and associated with the tendency of organizations to digital isomorphism

This development naturally triggers the impulse to reorganize the control of data spreading throughout the whole network. Taking into account access to services such as video or voice on demand coming from terminals which can be fixed or mobile such as smartphones, or also permeability of sensitive information provided to social networks, these factors compel a necessary interrogation about digital identity as a concept. It also intrinsically raises a full-fledged reconsideration of security and trust concepts. The contribution of this thesis project is in line, in a first part, with the analysis of the existing manifold digital identity frameworks as well as the study of current authentication protocols and trust issues raised by the lack of trusted environment such as smartcards. In a second part, as an answer to the concerns suggested in the first part, we will advocate an identity framework strongly bounded to the TLS authentication protocol which needs to be embedded in a secure component, thus providing the mandatory security assets for today’s networks while naturally fitting with a varied scope of terminals, be it fixed or mobile. In a last part, we will finally exhibit a few practical applications of this identity framework, which have been thoroughly tested and validated, this, in order to emphasize its relevance throughout multifarious use cases

Our goal is to check if young Lebanese master the three languages, if they use them equally and if they use another language on the new means of communication. Multilingualism has marked the history of Lebanon for a long time. The use of French was introduced in the sixteenth century whereas the use of English began in the nineteenth, giving rise to a country where currently the three languages coexist in the educational system. Besides Arabic, the only official language, French and English are two foreign languages currently learned at all Lebanese school sectors, private and public. However, the representations of these languages are not the same to all students, especially high schoolers. The youth population, neglected by researchers interested in the Lebanese plurilingual context, caught our attention, especially that of southern Lebanon. In fact, young people today are using social networks to communicate especially Instagram. So, we wonder about the languages they use through social networks and what representations these languages have.Our study is part of the fields of sociolinguistics, sociopedagogy, linguistic politics, and linguistic fieldwork. The goal of the research is to observe how high schoolers address, by their grassroots practices, political subjects on their Facebook profile pages. The question that guided this study is: how do the personal Facebook profile pages contribute to the political socialization of high schoolers? The hypothesis was that youngsters build their opinions and values throughout the process of constructing their digital identities. They search for recognition from the other members of their group or of the group they wish to belong to. These youngsters affirm their political positions and their values by selecting information on internet and retaining those which are necessary for their recognition. The empirical research took place in the northeastern region of Brazil from November 2014 to July 2017, during a period of political polarization regarding Dilma Rousseff's government (Labour Party). Data is drawn from an online ethnography and semi-structured interviews with a group of high schoolers who live in the same town: João Pessoa. The results point that the relevance of social networks for the political socialization of youngsters lies not only on the possibility to be in touch with a great diversity of opinions and world views but also on the fact that they allow the construction of a self image that shapes the political experiences of social media users. Pełny tekst źródłaThis Ph.D. thesis aims at proposing a concept that is technological – inother words, not anthropocentric – of digital traces. The point is that since computational processes require objects and actions to take the form of inscriptions as a condition of their existence, computational machines are fundamentally involved in the process of producing digital traces, which a technological semiotics could describe. What is at stake in the concept we propose is to put into circulation a narration which avoids the theme of “the end of the world” described by Déborah Danowski and Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. These “end of the world” stories evoke the life of human beings who are reduced to living in an environment that is ontologically devitalized and purely artificial, as it seems to be the case when the technical and economic valorization of digital traces has the end result of “delegating our human relations to machines” (Louise Merzeau) or yet again of leading to “algorithmic governmentality” (Antoinette Rouvroy and Berns). When the theme of “the end of the world” raises its head, it means that an attempt is being made : an attempt to invent a mythology appropriate to our present situation, a narration which tries to say something about the end of a certain anthropological adventure. And it is in order to participate in this venture, but seeking to avoid contributing to the theme of “the end of the world”, that we propose a technological approach to digital traces, enabling us to take into account computational machines as a part of the contemporary world

Pełny tekst źródłaThe development of information and communication technologies raises peculiar questions specific to our time, ranging from the right to disconnect to the protection of one's privacy. As a preponderant part of our public and private life is now digitalized, one can wonder if the myriad traces of the “self” that we leave behind - and about which we do not always possess full control - might have the potential to transform our relationship with our own identity. This thesis aims to understand how digital possessions affect the construction of self identity during a specific event that demands reflexivity: the romantic breakup. Following Paul Ricoeur's work, I conceptualize self-identity in its narrative form. I have conducted 14 comprehensive interviews with people who had recently experimented a romantic breakup. I then studied how these people managed their digital possessions and how they used social medias in the context of their relationship dissolution. Results show that the way people relate to their digital possessions differ following the place and importance they give to their ex-partner in their everyday life. Most often, managing their digital possessions helped them overcome their grief. In this sense, it is first “for themself” that they interact with their digital possessions. Managing them not only makes it possible to align their self-presentation on social media to the new narrative built after the breakup, but also, it is through these practices that one manages to transform the way she defines herself. Once the bereavement process is over, it is through other peoples' eyes that the participants apprehend their digital possessions. Moreover, they conceive and intervence on their digital possessions with new goals and new concerns in mind, in the hope of building a future with a prospect partner.

Pełny tekst źródłaAround the fundamental question of presence, I draw on interdisciplinary literature whose contributions from the fields of anthropology and social geography, theatre and cinema theory, performance studies, psychoanalysis and sociology are articulated from the perspective of phenomenology and information and communication sciences. Our way of inhabiting the world has changed: online-being is the new fundamental existential condition. Our space is a performative space, because it is produced through our actions, our gestures, eminently reflexive photographic gestures, which create our digital mise en scène. This space has become the space which links together all of our active and social spaces. Here, I single out live and recorded performativity, the performativity of do-ing, the performativity of algorithms and of questions, of emojis and of all that which “fait visage”. After a socio-semiotic analysis of digital gestures, screens, the graphics of social networks and presence protocols, I describe presence as always being a mediation effect. This mediation is at once disjunction and fiction, beacause it works as a difference and as the fiction of hypermediality. Presence exists where there is play (jeu) as in the french expression “il y a du jeu”, refering to space, and in its fictional sense of play-acting. As with Sartre's café waiter, we play act in order to create reality and consciousness through fiction

Our thesis is based on a multidisciplinary framework: we mobilized the the gift theory as well as the theories of social and symbolic capital in order to understand contribution logic, the notions of interaction order and contribution genres in order to understand the contribution process and, finally, the concepts of numerical presence and governmentality in order to address the contribution issues.Our research methodology adopts an interpretativist approach, based on three complementary studies: an exploratory study, six case studies and a Delphi study. The results show that employees’ contribution to social media is primarily based on a logic of legitimizing the "figure of the contributor", the contribution process materialized in a repertoire of "contributions genres" and that "digital traces" define the challenges of the numerical presence of employees and that of their company

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis focuses on the study of digital identity of two Tunisian political parties that are most notorious in Tunisia: Call of Tunisia (Nida Tounes) and the Ennahda Movement. The challenge is to study their identity construction from the images posted on the social network Facebook from their respective leaders: Beji Caid Essebsi (BCE) and Rached Ghannouchi (RG). It is about deciphering the images of leaders, rich in signs and symbols to identify the symbolic contrasting representations. Considering the image as a digital iconic speech, we are implementing a methodological protocol which is based on a dual analysis: a qualitative analysis of the 20 most sought images, between 2012 and 2013, and other quantitative treating reactions they generate. To do so, we have adopted a multidisciplinary approach based on the model of the iconic argument (Adam and Bonhomme, 2007). Based on the intrinsic description of the images, we have detected a set of formal elements that we have organized into six codes: linguistic, typographical, morphological, photographic, kinesic and chromatic. Certain codes are highly repetitive within the whole set of images, endows them with a certain identity that is built on that of the leaders. This is a representative paradigm that allows a topical indexing in turn generating values that enhance the putting forward and value of each political entity. Whether it is the charismatic and authoritarian image of BCE or that of the pious man and the spiritual guide RG, they represent constants that we have synthesized in two main messages: the charismatic figure of the leader and the sense of belonging. The identity construction of the political actor takes place though the contradiction of representing a being who must be recognized as unique, singular and collective while at the same time triggering the longing for a collective belonging. This implies referring back to a unique and an absolute figure while at the same time belonging to a group, being the Tunisian or the Muslim communities. In presenting the characteristic features of the political entity, the images allow a staging of the political actor by making him a subject of identification that creates relations (identity, emotional, iconic, informational and social) between the public - interpreting and the output authority that is the party. The latter’s production consists in the selection of a character trait, as part of the structured traits that is capable of explaining the global interpretive functioning. Any description-interpretation reflects operated choices, as different as they are, building a resulting image and that generates the appearance of different interpretation communities (convinced, critical or shared). They are thus codes serving as warning signals in their identification, relations markers, which in turn define the context of interpretation, reflected in the actions of the commenters, their electronic messages. These latter are almost all in favor of the two political actors. The quantitative analysis has shown that the groups of convinced interpreters write mostly praises and eulogies of their leader. Ultimately, the identity construction that is elaborated on Facebook allows the political leaders to be on the social networks in a constant interaction between "the self production" and the "interpretation of the other"

Pełny tekst źródłaThis work studies a new formulation of compressible Euler equations written in multidimensionnal Lagrangian coordinates, as a system of conservation laws linked to a free divergence constraint; it applies also to an extended physics, including for instance magnetohydrodynamics. This structure allows the mathematical study of the whole Lagrangian problematics, coupling physical unknowns with geometrical one's, associated to the displacement of matter. We prove that the physical part of the system, whose entire formulation is known to be only weakly hyperbolic, is symmetrizable under the differential constraint, although the loss of regularity of geometrical unknowns is characteristic of shear discontinuities. We then derive an original approximate method, of Finite Volumes kind on moving mesh, whose degree of freedom are placed on nodes. The scheme relies only on physical considerations (conservation principle, entropy production), which ensure its stability as well as a result of positivity and non-crossing on triangular mesh. We prove theoretically its convergenge with a rate of on the linearized equations of acoustics. Eventually, we extent the symmeterized structure and numerical method to the case of axisymmetric geometry

This boom also attracts a lot of media and cognitive attention, including researchers in many disciplines. In such a general context, this thesis main concern is the communicative, anthropological and cultural scope of digital and analog interaction situations in wolof ethnic milieu in Senegal. For the author, it is meant to study how the Internet and the mobile phone, as socio-technical tools, have been able and can influence and modify through their uses, some forms of “wolofian” community cultural sociability. This thesis focuses mainly on the interrelations between digital communication technologies and sociocultural dynamics in the private sphere of Wolof society. The author has favored the study of the wolof ethnicity because of its predominance on the national territory. To build the field of research, the question of cultural categorizations is raised, by mention of some of the debates on the concept of ethnicity. The author opts for a multidisciplinary theoretical approach (how ICS can mobilize some of the contributions of microsociology, anthropology, social psychology in particular) and a methodological pluralism (comprehensive approach, corpus analysis and participatory approach) also marked by a posture of immersion of the researcher. We are interested in the difference between the digital identity of these two digital social networks, one is worldwide used (except a few countries such as China) and the other is mainly used by the Chinese. Is that the digital identity of one person is also the same on these two different social network sites? How the users interact and express vis-à-vis different friends in different digital context? Can the online interactions manifest emotional aspects? In order to respond to these problems, this research questions the digital identity and their function in the identity construction, the relational and social aspects of online interaction, the types of emotions expressed in the online interactions, and the role of emoticon in the expression of emotions of these two digital social networks. The data analysis enables to identify the linguistic, social and emotional phenomena in online interactions of the corpus of study. Interviews and questionnaires clarify the analysis of the experience and the feeling of the different actors. So throughout the description of case use of Facebook and Renren by four newly arrived Chinese students in France, this work attempts to better understand the features of digital identity and interactive exchange of these two digital social networks
