Streszczenie:
The paper was to throw some light on the risk factors for diabetes disability among Bangladeshi adults of 18 years and above residing in both urban and rural areas. In investigating the adults, it was decided to cover 50.1% males and 49.9% females to maintain the national level of sex ratio in the sample. The respondents were interviewed when they were visiting some diagnostic centres in urban and semi-urban areas. The percentage of diabetic respondents included in the sample was 67% and 25.5% of them were suffering for 10 years and above, 6.4% were disable against 4.8% total disable respondents in the sample, and obese adults were 30.2%. Diabetic disable adults in the sample were 4.3%. The most responsible variable for diabetes disability was obesity followed by longer duration of diabetes, sedentary activity, smoking habit, being housewife, being married, etc. These variables were identified on the basis of risk ratio and correlation coefficients of variables and discriminant function scores. Beside these variables, rural people, Muslims, adults of ages 40 – 50 years, illiterate people had more risk of facing the problem of diabetes disability.

AbstractDespite advances in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction, the most effective method of reducing stroke morbidity and mortality is the identification and modification of stroke risk factors. Modifiable stroke risk factors include hypertension, atrial fibrillation, hypercholesterolemia, cigarette smoking, hyperhomocystinemia, and carotid stenosis. Improved identification of individuals at increased stroke risk due to these factors can reduce individual risk and the cost to society of the consequences of stroke.

Numerous studies on the distribution of building dangers have been conducted during the last few decades. Even though the current study gives significant insights into the matter, construction industry members are nonetheless concerned about the risks of contracting. A study product was developed to help contracting parties identify, quantify, and assign each construction risk to address this issue. To supplement the model worksheets, flowcharts were created to determine which party should carry which risk, legal research was conducted, and risk allocation guidelines were produced to generate acceptable contract language to address the identified risks. This article focuses on the most significant risks to the project's timeliness, quality, and budget.

Streszczenie:
It is widely accepted that risk and uncertainty are integral parts of the property valuation process. Uncertainty in property valuation is derived from the characteristics of property itself. The issue pertaining to risk and uncertainty in property valuations is currently one of the key concerns in global valuation practice to date in addressing the decision of risk and uncertainty in valuation, especially for business purposes or in the current term known as business valuation. The judgment and experience still depend on the expertise of the individual valuers alone. The valuation methods used can cause problems if certain elements in business such as risk are highlighted, especially to determine market value. There is a need for valuers to express assumptions which take into account risk and uncertainties, and then pass on the results of the estimation process to the end user of the valuation report. This research employed Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) to identify the level of risk in business valuation for valuers to identify which risk areas will expose them to professional liabilities, which then leads to mitigation of risk to determine value in business valuations. AHP will also be able to identify the level of risk in each of the approaches in business valuation which could help valuers to determine the value and market value in the valuation process. This paper will propose some practical approaches of how to address the risk and uncertainty of the valuation process, especially for the purpose of business valuation.

Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are becoming a major problem around the world, incurring enormous losses of human and economic resources. Recent reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) reveal that each year more than 1.25 million people are killed and 50 million are injured in road traffic accidents worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, statistics show that at least one traffic accident occurs every minute, causing up to 7,000 deaths and over 39,000 injuries annually. In this study, the main causes of RATs in the province of Hail are examined. The data was collected through the use of a survey which was developed to evaluate the effect of influencing parameters on RTA rate. The results show that 67% of RTAs result from human factors, 29% from road conditions and 4% from vehicle defects. Excessive speed and violation of traffic rules and regulations were found to be the main causes of RATs. Low rates of compliance with speed limit signs and seat-belt regulations were also observed. These findings highlight the need of strengthening effective traffic law enforcement alongside with improving traffic safety and raising public awareness.

Objective: The objective of this study is to identify risk factors for the development of refractory status epilepticus (RSE). Methods: This was an IRB-approved, retrospective case control study that included patients admitted with status epilepticus between August 1, 2014, and July 31, 2017. Cases were defined as those with RSE, and controls were those who did not develop RSE. A bivariate analysis was conducted comparing those with RSE and those without RSE. A stepwise logistic regression model was constructed predicting for progression to RSE. Risk factors for progression to RSE were extrapolated from this model. Results: A total of 184 patients met inclusion criteria for the study (99 controls and 49 cases). After adjusting for covariates in the logistic regression, patients with convulsive seizures had a lower odds of developing RSE (odds ratio [OR] = 0.375; 95% CI = 0.148 to 0.951; P = 0.0388). Treatment with benzodiazepines plus levetiracetam had a higher odds of developing RSE (OR = 3.804; 95% CI = 1.523 to 9.499; P = 0.0042). Conclusion and Relevance: This study found that patients with convulsive seizures had a lower odds of developing RSE. In addition, patients treated with benzodiazepines and levetiracetam had a higher odds of developing RSE. This information can be used to potentially identify patients at higher risk of developing RSE, so that treatment can be modified to reduce morbidity and mortality. These results may warrant further investigation into the effectiveness of levetiracetam as a first-line agent for the treatment of SE.

Background Febrile convulsion (FC) occurs in about 2 to 4percent of all children, approximately one third of whom willthen develop recurrent febrile convulsion (RFC). Risk factorsfor RFC are family history of convulsions, an age of less than 18months, a relatively lower temperature and shorter duration offever preceeding the first FC.Objective The aim of the study was to determine the risk factorsfor RFC.Methods One hundred children aged 6 months to 5 years withFC or RFC were included in this case-controlled study, which wascarried out from July 2006 to June 2007. Data on the children'sfirst FC were collected from medical records and the family historywas taken directly from the parents. Results Fifty children with RFC and 50 children withoutrecurrence were included in this study. An age of less than 18months (P< 0.0001, COR= 71.37), a family history of FC(P< 0.0001, COR= 6.00), and a fever duration ofless than 12hours preceding the first FC (P< 0.0001, COR = 4.96) wereassociated with a risk of recurrence. A relatively lower degree oftemperature at first febrile convulsion did not increase the riskfor RFC (P = 1.21). Multivariate logistic regression showed thatyounger age and shorter duration of fever preceding the first FCwere associated with RFC.Conclusion Younger age and shorter duration of fever precedingthe first FC are associated with an increased risk ofRFC.

PurposeReverse logistics (RL), an inseparable aspect of supply chain management, returns used products to recovery processes with the aim of reducing waste generation. Enterprises, however, seem reluctant to apply RL due to various types of risks which are perceived as posing an economic threat to businesses. This paper draws on a synthesis of supply chain and risk management literature to identify and cluster RL risk factors and to recommend risk mitigation strategies for reducing the negative impact of risks on RL implementation.Design/methodology/approachThe authors identify and cluster risk factors in RL by using risk management theory. Experts in RL and supply chain risk management validated the risk factors via a questionnaire. An unsupervised data mining method, self-organising map, is utilised to cluster RL risk factors into homogeneous categories.FindingsA total of 41 risk factors in the context of RL were identified and clustered into three different groups: strategic, tactical and operational. Risk mitigation strategies are recommended to mitigate the RL risk factors by drawing on supply chain risk management approaches.Originality/valueThis paper studies risks in RL and recommends risk management strategies to control and mitigate risk factors to implement RL successfully.

Postoperative pulmonary complications frequently lead to increased patient morbidity and mortality, hospital length of stay, and resource utilization. Atelectasis and infectious complications account for the majority of reported pulmonary complications. Risk factors are thought to exaggerate pulmonary function deterioration, which occurs both during and after surgical procedures. This article reviews the literature and describes risk factors frequently identified in relation to pre-, intra-, and postoperative settings, impact of each risk factor on pulmonary function, and issues related to risk factor evaluation. Eighteen risk factors are reviewed regarding their pathophysiologic impact on pre-, intra-, and postoperative pulmonary function. Key issues related to risk factor evaluation are also discussed. Identification of risk factors and prediction of postoperative pulmonary complications are important. Early identification of patients at risk for postoperative pulmonary complications can guide our respiratory care to prevent or minimize these complications.

Purpose National terrorism is a comprehensive problem caused by various factors and conditions that give rise to or are capable of giving rise to it. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach The purpose of this study is to identify the main risk factors contributing to the emergence of terrorism, based on an expert survey of the academic community and law enforcement officers who are directly involved in the security sector in the Russian regions. Findings The study identified 72 causes of national terrorism, which were then transformed into a questionnaire. The findings helped identify 18 major risk factors associated with the emergence of terrorism. Originality/value It was concluded that the elimination of these risk factors would generally reduce the impact of more insignificant factors. The results of the study may be useful for countries and national regions exposed to a high level of terrorist activity.

AbstractWomen with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have an increased lifetime risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). GDM has a substantial impact on maternal and foetal short and long-term health. Risk factors for GDM may be genetic or nongenetic and have been analysed in numerous studies. Researches in recent years allowed the identification of other risk factors for GDM except for those already known. Knowledge and identification of all risk factors for GDM allows the elaboration of a prevention strategy of T2DM, it may influence the screening, diagnosis, and, subsequently, treatment modalities for this disease.

Streszczenie:
The present study analyzes the results from 1,639 questionnaires returned by Catalonian musicians from music schools, conservatories, orchestras, associations of professional musicians, and sundry other musical groups. The objective was to identify the principal risk factors associated with the appearance of health problems caused by the musicians’ occupations. The most noteworthy results were that 77.9% of the respondents have or have had some occupation-related health problem during their playing careers, and 37.3% of these have had technique impairment. The musculoskeletal system was the most frequently involved area (87.7% of the affected respondents). Risk factors identified include age, grade, dedication, professional status, changes in routine, and the instrument played (especially percussion, brass, and strings). In contrast to other studies, no relationship was discovered between gender or dominant hand and higher risk. The areas of the body most affected were the upper extremities and the neck. There is some indication in the data that the problems in males may be related to pathologies produced by overuse-strain; while those experienced by females are linked more with tension-posture. The conclusion reached is that, in spite of there being common factors, each community of musicians, each with its specific social, employment, and educational characteristics, presents a distinct pathological model, which makes the epidemiological data obtained in any study difficult to extrapolate to other communities.

Streszczenie:
Introduction: The massive development of the industrial sector leads to an increase in the risk of fire incidents. A company is obligated to prevent, reduce, and extinguish fire incidents by providing training and facilitating supporting tools to avoid fire incidents in the workplace. PT. ARPS is a Surabaya-based manufacturing company that produces plastic packaging and has a potential danger of medium to high levels. By applying the case study design, as an observational study, this study aims to identify the factors that influence and trigger the fire incidents at PT. ARPS during 2017-2018. Methods: The population of this study is the workers of the Assembly Decoration 1 (AD1) and the Blow Molding (DM) production areas. The collected data are analyzed and presented descriptively through tables and narration. Results: The data show that the first fire incident occurred on 10 February 2017 to the KK6 machine in the AD1 area, followed by the second incident that occurred on 18 March 2018 to the VK4 machine in the BM area, and the third incident (30 March 2018) to the KKS6 machine in the AD1 area. Conclusion: It can be stated that the three fire incidents at PT. ARPS that occurred from 2017 until March 2018 are caused by unsafe actions that are the negligence of the human resources, and unsafe conditions, which comprise the unstable machines. Other factors, such as supervision, maintenance, work instruction, and managerial, are identified as the upholding factors to the fire incidents at PR. ARPS. Keywords: factor identification, fire incident, unsafe action, unsafe condition
