In order to estimate the residual life of waste drive axle housing, the prediction model of waste axle housings with artificial neural networks is built in this paper. Take the deformation, residual stress and the gradient of magnetic intensity Kmax relating to axle housing’s fatigue damage degree as the input of neural network, and compare the testing residual life of the waste drive axle housing with its predicting residual life. The result demonstrates that: the deformation, residual stress and the gradient of magnetic intensity Kmax of axle housing as the characteristic parameter estimating the degree of fatigue damage, adopting trainbr training function can get good network performance and comparatively high precision of prediction. Besides, the longer the residual life of the waste axle housing is, the more precise the prediction life will be.

The two types of custom housings for the maturity sensor made of twocomponent plastic were proposed and subjected to durability testing in this study. The first rectangular housing was made of two parts connected by 6 screws and waterproofed with rubber. The second housing was made keg-shaped with a cylindrical keg and screw-on cap. The housings were tested for water resistance, integrity when dropped, and load resistance on three sides using an electromechanical press-machine. At compression tests, both housings demonstrated fairly acceptable resistances, ranging from 0.6 to 2.11 kPa. If referring to the weight applied, it may be supposed that the housings may bear from 65.3 to 165.3 kg depending on the sides, on which the loads are applied. The integrity tests did not cause notable damage on both types of housings, while the water-resistance test revealed the weakness of rectangular housing that failed the test at 3 days of submerging. Comparatively, the cylindrical housing turned out to be more reliable, since its average resistance deviation on all sides appeared to be twice less than those in rectangular one. Moreover, the keg-shaped housing turned out to be waterproof, less material, and labor-intensive.

This study elucidates values that determine traditional Indonesian housing orientations. The diversity of cultures in Indonesia generates a firm rule in housing design and affects some elements, encompass housing orientation. Recent research on the orientation of locality-based buildings has not been much explained holistically, so this can be a potential for further discussion. In order to produce a synthesis of the orientation values, this research employs a systematic literature review from scientific papers on Scopus with certain screening processes. In brief, the results show nature, main access, and beliefs that determine the orientation of traditional Indonesian housings. Nature's role determines the orientation where dwellers respect nature, cultivate and prevent the wind. Main access also simply determine the housing orientation where transportation access is located. Furthermore, ancestors' beliefs, sacred space, and Qiblah also establish the housing orientation of traditional Indonesian housings. These results provide important insights into the development of traditional Indonesian housing knowledge that considers local culture, sustainable issues, and Islamic values

In Seoul, a metropolitan city, affordable housing is a major issue. Since 2012, social housing has been implemented as a means to solve housing shortages in the South Korean capital. Various policies in different times have been applied, and Seoul came up with a unique form of social housing: providing housing to those in need. The purpose of this paper is to review the development of social housing in Seoul and to discuss policy implications. First, this paper defines the concept of social housing in Seoul by comparing that of social housing in Western countries. The major differences in the concept of social housing between Seoul and Western countries lies in the provider of social housing. The providers of social housing in Seoul are social economy actors, including non-private organizations and cooperative unions that work as agencies to pursue the public interest. In addition, this paper presents an overview of the historical development and specific features of social housing. Finally, a discussion is presented on the implications for social housings, including the need for the allocation of social housing throughout the city, the extended length of residence, and reliable financial support to social housing providers.

This study conducted a panel analysis to examine the impact of rental housing supply by type (public/private, built/purchased) on housing market price stabilization at the level of metropolitan city and province level. This study used data from the National Survey of House Price Trends (Korea Real Estate Board) and MOLIT Statistics System (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport) for the period 2013–2021. The main findings of the analysis are as follows. In terms of a provider, publicly rented housings contribute more to price stabilization than privately rented, and in terms of a supply method, purchased-rented housings are better in price stabilization than constructed-rented housings. In terms of renting types, price stabilization effect is strongest in public purchase followed by public construction and private purchase. However, private construction is more likely to drive up prices. This suggests that rather than focusing solely on increasing inventory, rental housing supply policies should include both legal and institutional support and regulation.

Abstract Oikonym is a part of toponym that focus the study on the name given to inhabited place. In the past, availability of data was one of the obstacles in the study of toponym as well as oikonym. Now days, the development of digital mapping and information technology particularly internet enables oikonym data obtained from a variety of sources. This study aimed to explore the typology of housing names as well as the geographical characteristic of the housing location by means of mapping and spatial analysis. Data required for mapping and analysis were obtained via internet therefore referred as online geospatial data sources. Housing names were analyzed based on their generic and specific elements and language of origin used for naming. Spatial analyses i.e., 3D analysis and network analysis were performed to obtain geographical characteristic of the housing location. This study shows, about 57% of housings which have generic name, use indigenous element i.e., local language. In addition to this, about 80% of housings use indigenous element for their specific names. Housings mostly located in low land and gentle slope. On average, distance of housings to the center of capital area is 3.3 km and road density is 6.6 km/km2.

Permanent supportive housing for families experiencing homelessness—typically, subsidized housing that is not time limited and provides access to a range of support services—has substantially increased over the past 10 years, despite an absence of rigorous evidence of its effectiveness. We examine the benefits of subsidized housing with supportive services compared to subsidized housing alone. Our findings suggest that supportive housing offers more opportunities for access to services and benefits than subsidized housing alone, but it may not be beneficial to families’ housing stability or to family members’ employment or involvement with the criminal justice system. We argue that housing that is coupled with intensive case management, that is service rich, and that provides and adheres to harm reduction principles may help to strengthen supportive housing’s effectiveness.

Researchers have acknowledged that physical surroundings are a concrete manifestation of spatial organisation. Its arrangement outlines spatial relationship of social activity networks within housing units. In Libya, cities display minimal sensitivity to socio-physical attributes which affect public housing transformation. In order to focus on users’ transformations experience and emphasis on socio-physical environment influence. Public housing dwellers are surveyed to determine the socio-physical impact on housing transformations initiatives. The aim of this study is to develop a socio-physical responsive design framework for public housing projects based on user-initiated transformation experience. A survey is carried out among 304 households in twelve public housings areas in western Libya to evaluate users’ experience on the socio-physical model of housing transformation. Public housing such as neighbourhood influence, technology, plot size and quality of urban living standards are investigated using a questionnaire and analysed using SEM (AMOS). The findings revealed that socio-physical constituents have influence on housing transformation decisions made by house owners. It contributes to a housing design which respects both the users requirements and provide a healthy urban development at the same time.

The current paper investigates the effects of geometric design parameters on the fatigue failure of the drive axle housing using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The study examines the effects of various factors on the fatigue life of the drive axle housing, such as axle housing wall thickness, housing cross-sectional rounding radius, and rounding radius of the central part of the housing. Based on the known material properties and dynamic loads, a CAD/FEM model of the drive axle housing was developed, and a structural analysis was carried out. Based on the results of the structural analysis, critical places on the housing were determined, and fatigue analysis and lifetime prediction were performed. Through a series of simulations, the study reveals that increasing housing wall thickness can significantly improve fatigue performance. Similarly, increasing the rounding radius at the housing cross-section, as well as the rounding radius at the central part of the housing can also lead to improved fatigue performance. However, the effect of increasing the value of these two radii is not as significant as the effect of the wall thickness. These findings give useful information regarding the design and manufacture of drive axle housings for vehicles, intending to reduce the likelihood of fatigue failure.

Housing offers shelter, possible asset growth and a tax base for local services. A housing symposium would therefore seem consistent with the interests of this journal. Housing is central to all of our lives, playing an important role in growing living standards, quality of life and the distribution of resources. Careful comparative housing research offers considerable insights. From a policy perspective housing is an interesting sector because it is where many disputes about the relative merits of markets and non-market interventions are rehearsed. as a field of study housing permits a wide variety of approaches and methodologies, adding a depth and richness to our understanding. This paper considers the economics and governance aspects of housing and identifies key contemporary themes: individual household housing choice behaviour; housing's role in the distribution of income and wealth; the economic governance and performance of social housing; and effective subsidy design to overcome market failures. All of these themes are further addressed in the following papers.

Timber frame housing is one of the most common structures in many countries in the world. In Vietnam, timber frame buildings are well-known for having special whittling techniques that should be considered a lesson for modern methods. In the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta, the housing in rural areas was built mostly with timber frames, and some housing was built with bamboo frames and used natural materials such as nipa-leave, and coconut-leave. Therefore, the study aims to investigate the characteristics of timber frame housing in the Mekong River Delta. To achieve this, firstly, an on-site investigation of ten local housings in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta is carried out. Secondly, the architectural characteristics of local housing are introduced, and finally, we analyze the details of timber frames. The result shows that the timber frame housing in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta has the following features: simple structure, light framing, and a flexible connection to other local materials. These characteristics should be considered in detail as a lesson for housing design in the region.

This paper presents how the shape and physical structure of the connections affect the performance of the housing of maturity sensor. A two parts rectangular and a keg-shaped cylindrical configurations of plastic housings were sequentially tested for water, shock and load resistance. The tests revealed the weak ingress and shock resistance of the rectangular housing, in comparison with cylindrical one, where no serious defects were identified. Both types of housings performed well during the compression tests on all three sides, showing the bearing capacities from 0.6 to 2.11 kPa, which are equivalent to 65.3 and 165.3 kg of human mass. Based on the results, the study demonstrates an easy-to-handle workflow for generic testing and evaluation of maturity sensors housing. The proposed workflow may be applicable for other types of small-scaled electronic devices.

The design of the housings of the gear reducers is made, usually, using empirical equations based on the center distance (the distance between shafts). These equations can lead to inappropriate stresses distribution and inadequate material consumption at the final product. In the manufacturing of large series and in the manufacturing of the gear reducers/ gearboxes with large dimensions it is necessary an optimization of the housing dimensions. The use of the finite element analysis in this process, combined with experimental researches, can generate significant improvements. The paper is focused on the analysis of stresses distribution and displacements on the housing of a two-stage helical gear reducer with parametric dimensions and loads. The housing is subjected to a static finite element study. The optimization process aimed to minimize the total weight of the housing. The next features were submitted to dimensional changes: the thickness of the housing walls and the thickness of the ribs. The results presented as diagrams of stresses and displacements distributions show real opportunities to reduce the total weight of the housing and the material consumption.

The analysis of various designs (both traditional and alternative) for outboard bearing housing joints with cylinders of steam turbines of medium and high power. Taking into account the identified similarities in the interaction of elements of the considered structures, a generalized kinematic model of the thermal expansion system of a steam turbine is presented. In the assumed model, the thermal expansion system is presented in the form of a multi-link hinged system consisting of one or more “basic” modules. Based on the developed model, the stability conditions (the absence of self-braking on the guiding longitudinal keys) against external influences are studied for the thermal expansion system of a steam turbine. According to the simulation results, it is shown that the magnitude of the turbine cylinder rotation angle change relative to the bearing housing in the junction must be limited. It was revealed that for stability of a system with one outboard bearing housing, it is sufficient that the maximum rotation angle at the junction of the turbine cylinder and the bearing housing does not exceed the maximum rotation angle of the bearing housing relative to the longitudinal keys. For stability of a system with several sequentially moving outboard bearing housings (multi-cylinder turbine), it is necessary that the limiting angle of rotation at all junctions of the turbine cylinders with bearing housings does not exceed the value of the smallest limiting angle of rotation for all bearing housings. The results of the study can be applied in the design of new steam turbines and in the reconstruction of thermal expansion systems for equipment in operation.

Housing problems in urban areas are very critical. The increased population growth in DKI Jakarta and the high migration rate from rural to urban areas cause slums. Slums are generated because many households do not have place to live and populate in unauthorized and inappropriate regions. More than 50% of households in DKI Jakarta have yet to own any housing property. In addition, the housing backlog in DKI Jakarta reached 302.319 in 2017. Therefore, housing problems in urban areas are very critical. One way to overcome this issue is to provide a public rental housing program for relocated and general residents with low income—the relocated residents' objective of moving to public rental housing, as they are the victims. The residents lost their livelihoods, the economy was challenging, and it took time to get a job. So, relocated residents in rental public housing are known to have high overdue rent. Previous research about the effectiveness of relocating to public rental accommodations rental public lodgings is minimal. Therefore, public housings create higher rent due in Jakarta. This research's objective is to compare the relocated and general residents in terms of rent overdue in DKI Jakarta public housing. This research analyzes demographic data and public housing rent overdue in 2022. The method used in this research is quantitative with Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression. The analyzed regression shows that rental public housing status influences rent overdue, and residents with the status relocated residents are more prone to pay the rent overdue, compared to the public residents.

Purpose This paper considers the challenges and solutions in relation to older lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) housing in the UK. The purpose of this paper is to identify the key housing issues and concerns affecting older LGB&T people in the UK, and ways in which these might be addressed. Design/methodology/approach This is a practical discussion which focusses on the issues of policies and provision in relation to older LGB&T housing in the UK, both specialist and mainstream housing. Findings There is a growing body of literature from both the voluntary sector and academic researchers highlighting the housing issues affecting older LGB&T people. There is a need for both specialist and appropriate mainstream housing provision. However, policy and funding issues constrain the creation and/or development of such provision. Practical implications Policy makers and housing providers in the UK need to address, and meet, the diverse housing needs of older LGB&T people. Social implications Until their housing needs are met, many older LGB&T people remain concerned about their housing futures, and may end up living in housing which is not their preference and which is not suitable for them. Originality/value This paper is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of the work of Stonewall Housing’s network for older LGB&T people, and the challenges and solutions which have been identified in relation to their housing issues and concerns.

Green buildings with green features are sustainable buildings and have less harmful effects on the natural environment, resource consumption and human health. Since the global warming issue has worsened and the number of housings is increasing, the role of green features in green housing has become highly important in creating a good sustainable living environment. However, to date, the level of developed green housing is still below the mainstream housing even though Green Buildings Index (GBI) has been implemented in Malaysia. The objectives of this study are to identify current green features that are applied in green housing, to quantify the construction costs of green features that are applied and to identify the factors that influence the acceptance levels of green housing. The scope of the study included collecting data from developers through five case studies of housing projects. Questionnaire and semi structured interviews and documents’ review were conducted to gather information from the respondents, of developers or architects, and 120 home buyers on green housing. The result shows that current green features that are mostly applied by housing developers are passive green features such as building orientation, window and daylight. From the perspectives of cost effectiveness and to meet the purpose of comfortable housing, developers will choose to apply passive green features. The construction cost of green feature window and daylight is the highest. The main factors that influence the acceptance level of green housing by home buyers is the comfort of green housing followed by the green housing pricing. Further, the research recommends looking into the details of the cost of savings in the long term for green features and developers’ opinions on the perception of the home buyers when it comes to factors that influence their acceptance level of green housing. It is recommended that an in-depth study be conducted on green features to study the problems and issues related to improve the green features design.

Housing’s values are a key topic of public and policy debate, with discussions including the social value of housing in the form of human rights or care, rising property values, value-capture in infrastructure development, Indigenous values of land, and the value of housing for social reproduction. With this in mind, we engage with the various ways housing is valued, not as a reductive exercise to find ‘the value’ of housing but to recognise and engage with the ways various valuations of housing inform a situated and relational politics of value. The analysis is concerned with how people make valuations about housing as well as how these different housing valuations intersect to constitute a politics of housing values. It is a common reduction to associate housing with its economic value and home with social values. Attempts to reconcile these values typically involve proxy valuations to commensurate the social to the economic. However, value pluralists resist such easy reduction of social values to the market, holding that plural values are incommensurable. Our more-than-political economy approach draws on anthropology and moral philosophical theories of value to conceptualise an agonistic politics of housing value. To illustrate this conceptual case, we discuss three regimes of value in Australia, that is, capitalist regimes of real estate value as the dominant value regime, Indigenous cultural values tied to land and housing and care ethics and human rights as housing discourse. These cases highlight the processes of value realisation, not just within these regimes of value, but within and between them, to animate an agonistic tournament of housing’s value. We are interested in the politics within and between these different claims about value and argue the utility of value theory is to show how value is produced through the politics of competing value claims, rather than to try to show what the value of housing as-an-object is.

The lightweight design of the gear system is the current tendency. The gearbox housing is modeled as a rigid body and is neglected in the gear dynamic analysis. It is of great significance to introduce the gearbox housing flexibility into the dynamic analysis and analyze the influence of the gearbox housing flexibility on the dynamic behaviors of the gear transmission system, as this can provide important instructions for the lightweight structure design of the housing. The gear–rotor–bearing model and the gear–rotor–bearing–housing model are established by the finite element node method. A Timoshenko beam element is used to represent the shafts. To illustrate the housing effect, two kinds of housing model are established: one tends to be rigid and the other to be flexible and lighter. The housings are simplified as a super element obtained by the dynamic substructure method. Natural frequencies and dynamic responses are illustrated to indicate the effects of housing flexibility. Comparisons of numerical results show that the rigid housing can be neglected for its little effect on the dynamic analysis. The flexibility of the housing slightly reduces the natural frequencies of the gear transmission system, and the maximum reduction is 6.05%. Meanwhile, the amplitudes of the first two resonance peaks of the dynamic transmission error decrease by 9.5% and 5.05%. Besides, more response peaks emerge at higher speeds when the flexibility of housing increases. The complete phenomena of dynamic behaviors of the gear transmission system can be obtained by considering the housing flexibility.

The article defines the priority while applying the norms the Russian Federation Civil Code and Russian Federation Housing Code in case of their contradiction to each other. The article suggests explaining two situations when the housing legislation norms should have a priority over the civil right norms that regulate housing relations. The first situation is connected to the list of housing relations legally fixed in Article 4 of the Houseing Code of the Russian Federation; the second situation is linked to the direct reference of the civil legislation norms. The author of the article criticizes the approach suggested by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation when there are the differentiating of the fields of regulating of the criteria of housing evaluation which is viewed as an object of «economic turnover». The article analyses the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation practice in question of setting the peculiarities of the legal regulation of the existing of housing legislation norms in time. The author concludes that the peculiarities of the housing relations can show the exemptions from the common rules when the law is applied in reverse.

AbstractIn recent decades, various programs have been developed as part of Chile’s housing policies to respond to the housing deficit. Most policies have so far focused on addressing the quantitative, qualitative, and urban deficits, neglecting the social dimension of housing. At the same time, the concept of collaborative housing has been referred to as a possible alternative to respond to these social challenges by fostering social cohesion, collaboration, and mutual aid. This article explores how collaborative housing can tackle the social deficit of housing. Here, we conceptualise this deficit as ‘the lack of non-physical or intangible social characteristics given among residents of a project, such as trust, social cohesion, and a sense of community, necessary for housing to be considered adequate.’ We examined the relation between these two concepts by developing a theoretical and empirical study. The first consisted of a theoretical framework and a review of literature on collaborative housing’s response to the social deficit of housing. Second, we interviewed stakeholders from two study cases. We found that residents in both collaborative housing cases perceive an improvement in their social interactions, sociability, trust, and sense of community in their current homes compared to previous homes. Therefore, we conclude that collaborative housing presents opportunities to tackle the social deficit of housing.

Streszczenie:
Currently, engine downsizing through turbocharging is widespread in the automotive industry to improve fuel economy and emissions. The engine downsizing demands compact and high performance centrifugal compressors for turbochargers. A compressor contains mainly an impeller and housing, which often uses a vaneless diffuser and an overhanging volute. High-speed flow from the impeller is decelerated in the diffuser and volute, to recover static pressure for boosting the engine. The volute flow characteristics and pressure recovery depend on the housing size, which determines the overall compressor performance and size. This study evaluates the effect of four different housing sizes viz., baseline, 12% scaled up, and 12% and 20% scaled-down geometrically, through experimental and numerical analysis. The experiments are conducted using different housing sizes with a given impeller to measure the compressor pressure ratio and efficiency. Also, steady-state numerical simulations are performed to examine the flow mechanisms causing pressure losses due to changes in housing size. Then, the simulation is also done for different volute surface roughness levels in each housing to establish its effect on compressor performance. From the results, it is found that there is no marked change in compressor efficiency between the baseline and 12% scaled-up housing. Whereas, the scaled-down housings (12% and 20%) showed efficiency drop of about 2–5 percentage points at near-choke flow rate. The CFD analyses of these scaled down housings with reduced cross-sectional area indicated substantial increase of meridional velocity, which results in higher swirl velocity in the volute causing more pressure losses. Besides, the increased volute surface roughness is realized to cause extra pressure loss due to higher wall shear stress. It amounts to additional efficiency reduction of 0.5–1 percentage points at the same near-choke flow.

Streszczenie:
The public housing program was designed as a stepping-stone into upward socioeconomic mobility when the first developments were constructed for White and Black households in the 1930s. White residents were able to save and move into private housing with greater speed than Black residents, who faced both external and internal constraints on their socioeconomic status. As a result of this decreased mobility, scholars and policymakers soon associated public housing developments with impoverished Black containment, categorizing it as the home of the underclass and those who are stuck in place. This article employs a Du Boisian approach to understand the categorical differences and political economic conditions shaping mobility rates among Atlanta’s early Black public housing families. Using historical documents and approximately 40 years of administrative data collected from the first Black public housing development in Atlanta, Georgia by housing managers, Du Bois, and a group of research assistants from Atlanta University, this article examines how internal and external constraints shaped Black tenant mobility. It demonstrates how housing administrators and their actions shaped eviction rates—and by default, public housing’s ability to advance Black tenant mobility—through elite housing managers’ moral judgments of impoverished Black families.
