Honor killing is a violent crime committed by one or more perpetrators, in which the crime’s intention is to restore honor to their family. In this narrative review, the authors investigate the epidemiology of honor killing in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Furthermore, the social, cultural, and legal aspects of honor killing are discussed. Numerous socio-cultural factors lead to the action of killing for honor in this region. They include deeply rooted patriarchal dominance, the desire to maintain social status, and being poorly educated. Honor killing perpetrators have similar characteristics, such as rating female chastity at a higher price and justifying violence against women. The impact of honor killing on family members is much greater than the perceived families’ beliefs of the community’s rejection of the female’s dishonorable behavior. Silence culture dominates these societies, and many crimes are under-reported in this region. Often, a judicial trial is not conducted for such heinous crimes. Penal code reforms, campaigns to promote human rights, steps to improve the education level, and active participation of civil society in condemning such crimes are a few essential measures that need to be considered in order to curb the social evil of honor killing.

In the light of some key concepts from the chastity codes described by anthropological research for honor societies in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East, this article examines the chastity code for women that the Spanish Renaissance humanist Juan Luis Vives (1492/3–1540) advocated in his work De institutione feminae Christianae (1524/1538). Aspects, such as gender order, restrictions on women’s physical freedom of movement, regulations and instructions regarding women’s clothing, and various rules for women’s outward conduct, are studied. It can be established that Vives advocated a very traditional, patriarchal view of women, exhorting very strict gender segregation and female seclusion. He prescribed very tight restrictions on women’s freedom, with a view to controlling female sexuality, an aspect of Vives that previous research has not paid full attention to.

Öz Erkek egemen toplumlarda kadına yönelik şiddetin kısmi bir kabul gördüğü bilinmektedir. Kadına yönelik şiddetin özel bir şekli de namus cinayetleridir. Son zamanlarda ulusal medyada kendisine oldukça fazla yer bulan namus cinayetleri, sosyolojik çalışmalarda da kendisine yer bulmaya başlamıştır. Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de son zamanlarda oldukça sık tartışılan namus cinayetlerinin sosyal ve kültürel hayattaki durumunu tartışmaya açmaktadır. Çalışma basında yer alan namus cinayetleri ile sınırlıdır. Çalışmada içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, Türkiye’de meydana gelen namus cinayetlerinin yoğun olarak ortaya çıktığı bölgelerdeki sosyal sorunlar, farklı bölgelerdeki sosyal yapının namus cinayetlerini nasıl etkilediği, toplumda nasıl yansıma bulduğu ve özellikle kadınlar tarafından nasıl algılandığı konusu, basına yansıyan haberlerin içerik çözümlemesiyle ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Abstract Violence against women is somewhat acceptable in societies which dominated by the patriarchal system. One of the aspects of violence against women is honor killings. Nowadays, honor killings take place pretty much in Turkish national media. This article discusses the social and cultural basis of honor killings debated quite often recently. The work is limited to honor killings reported by mass media. In the work the content analysis method was used. In this context, social problems and social structures of different regions of Turkey analyzed to determine the source of problem. Additionally, the place of the honor killings, how they come up, and their effects on women and society have been presented with the content analysis of the news on the media.

The present study scrutinizes the cases of honor killings in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Canada through selected documentary films. The case focuses on the social, moral, and religious aspects that coerce some people to take the lives of their own family members in case they defy norms. The documentaries chosen as case studies provide the perspectives of both the victims and the victimizers regarding the concepts of honor, dishonor, and honor killings. People in certain societies reject progressive new thought as attempts to contaminate their perceived cultural purity. People from these communities who try to assimilate liberal ideas are often shunned, especially when the emancipation of women is concerned. Even the seemingly progressive males are very unforgiving about the female members of their families embracing the modern ways of life. The women who try to defy set traditions are branded as being rebellious and are punished to serve as a precedent for future rebellions by women and to save society from their alleged bad influence. In some patriarchal societies, women are seen as the preservers of the family’s honor, and their conduct often reflects the family’s culture, morality, and ethics. Any lapse on a woman’s part allegedly taints the family’s name, and punishment must be given to the erring party to restore the family’s honor. The case also studies the influence of society as a compelling factor in honor killings.

This article gives a close reading of the “avvisi di Roma”—unpublished archival documents reporting on daily life in the city—that record the arrest in 1645 of famous Roman courtesan singer Nina Barcarola. Organized by the political enemies of Nina's main protector, Cardinal Antonio Barberini, the arrest was orchestrated so as to compromise the public honor of both. The reports of the arrest reflect a growing elite interest in female vocal performance in Rome, and attest to a rise in the social value of courtesan singers. Examining details provided in these reports, the article explores various aspects of Nina's life and courtesan singing culture more generally: the public honor and social practices of courtesan singers; the positive effect of singing on courtesan honor; the types of gatherings hosted by Nina; and her politically satirical public performances. It also analyzes Nina's relationship to various areas of contemporary politics—social, state, familial, and gender. The reports reveal that, in the public sphere, Nina, like Barberini's male dependents, served as a symbolic extension of the cardinal. By introducing courtesan singers—a significant, marginalized population—into musicological discourse on seventeenth-century Rome, the article broadens our understanding of Roman singing culture in this period.

The article examines the issues of glocalization and regulation of communicative interaction based on the material of the speech act of defamation. It is shown that countries, when legislating public relations in this area, proceed from the interests dictated by their own information security policy. Using the example of some post-Soviet states, which historically have common sources of law, evidence is presented of the refusal of states to unify legal norms in the field of regulating public communication activity: the speech act of defamation as an illegal and criminally punishable act is excluded from the legislation of Estonia; in Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, Tajikistan it does not have the status of a serious crime, unlike The Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. However, this approach does not exclude the emergence of problems, primarily of a methodological nature. As an actual example, fragments of Belarusian legislation are analyzed, which reveal a terminological lacuna in understanding the categories of honor, dignity and business reputation as a triad of intangible subject rights, the attempt on which is realized through a speech act of defamation. The relevance of the legal linguistic interpretation of the designated content of the concepts is substantiated: honor as moral and ethical qualities of a person in the assessment of others; the introverted phenomenon of dignity as a social self-esteem of a person; business reputation as a set of professional and/or service qualities of a person. Based on the material of the Belarusian legislation, a meaningful detailing of the signs of the implementation of a speech act of defamation is given according to the parameters 1) factual nature, 2) object composition, 3) type of information and 4) channel of information dissemination.

This study attempts to investigate Jordanian oaths from a sociocultural and translational perspective. The study shows that Jordanian oaths are insufficiently explored from such a perspective. The paper uncovers that Jordanian oaths have many formulas and are taken in many social and cultural aspects such as religion, body parts, honor, headdress, curse, and Arabic coffee, among many other things. In order to conduct the study, examples resembling these different aspects of oaths are suggested, and some social and cultural details are given before the examples. To make the Jordanian oaths clear, each oath example is contextualized in a social and cultural setting and then followed by a literal translation. Finally, the examples are analyzed and discussed, translationally, socially, and culturally in order to give a ground evidence that Jordanian oaths are difficult to translate from Arabic into English.

This article examines the similarities and differences between family medicine and social work, their histories, principles, and relationships with the scientific community, in an attempt to establish a context for the discussion of teaching practice wisdom. The author discusses the conflicts between the empirical versus heuristic aspects of our discipline and how those have impeded our pedagogical progress. Four strategies used by family medicine are described: role modeling, mentoring, precepting, and peer teaching. Suggestions are given for how those can be better utilized in undergraduate social work education. A feminist postscript urges social work to honor its tradition as a female-dominated profession and to respect different ways of knowing.

Views regarding social status have a big influence on individuals in determining their social life, this influences people's perceptions of how they act, especially Madurese people. There are many classifications of social status, but it is focused on the social status of honor (Neng/Nyai), knowledge (Teacher) and heredity (Housewife). These differences will have an impact on the individual's smallest social life, namely the family. This research was conducted involving Madurese ethnic female subjects who had early childhood. The aim of this research is to analyze the parenting patterns of Madurese ethnic women in terms of social status. This research model is included in the qualitative research category with a focused interview approach. Data sources, namely interviews and documentation. The analysis process, namely: 1) data reduction; 2) data presentation; and 3) drawing conclusions. The results of the research state that the upbringing of Madurese ethnic women is viewed from the perspective of social status. The results in the context of the element of faith, the similarities between the three groups apply parental responsiveness in the aspect of warm communication and parental demandingness in the aspect of intrusiveness, strictness and arbitrary exercise of power. In the context of providing education, the honor group applies parental responsiveness in warm communication, the science group applies parental demandingness in the aspects of restrictiveness, demandingness and strictness, the hereditary group applies parental demandingness in the aspect of intrusiveness.

Professor EJ Mishan was a world expert on the idea of externalities. In this paper, we provide evidence for the intuitive idea of “emotional externalities”. These might be viewed as psychological spillovers from the well-being of one person upon the well-being of another. A new form of laboratory experiment is implemented. “Happiness” answers are elicited in the first few seconds of the experiment. Tragic life events — like family illness and bereavement — are then studied. The paper documents evidence consistent with a powerful caring-about-others effect. The paper’s results also suggest an approximate equivalence between life-satisfaction data and happiness data. Statistical offices should incorporate questions to capture people’s life evaluations, hedonic experiences and priorities … All these aspects of subjective well-being (cognitive evaluations, positive affects and negative affects) should be measured separately to get a satisfactory appreciation of people’s lives. The article examines the legal nature of decent wages, assesses the concept of wages through the category of its dignity, fairness and sufficient and decent standard of living, as well as analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of legal regulation of decent wages. Fair and satisfactory remuneration in this study is considered as a guarantee of a dignified existence of the person and his family and is perceived in the context of fair working conditions. The analysis of the concept of a dignified life is analyzed through the prism of constitutional and legal doctrine in the context of the main duty of the state. To this end, the basic international and European standards for ensuring the fundamental human rights to a fair reward, a fair existence and a sufficient standard of living for individuals and their families are considered. The right to fair remuneration is considered through the constitutional provisions of determining the main direction of the state to ensure human rights and freedoms and decent living conditions, recognition of man, his life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and security of the highest social value and the establishment and protection of human rights human freedoms as the main duty of the state. An analysis of the main legal positions of the court of constitutional jurisdiction on the issues of determining a sufficient and decent standard of living, a decent human life, the minimum requirements for living in conditions worthy of a person and protection from poverty. It is proved that the success of the implementation of the elements of decent work in Ukraine requires coordinated actions of the social partners on the way to guarantee a decent salary as an important factor in the concept of decent work. It is concluded that the concept of "decent pay" is still not established and is in constant development. No normative legal act of Ukraine mentions the concept of "decent pay", so there is an urgent need for its constitutionalization. It is not necessary to limit the wording only to the content of such a concept, but also to determine the conditions and guarantees of compliance, provision and protection.

The article examines the category "public order". It is noted that in the general sense, public order should be understood as a certain part of social relations regulated by legal and other social norms, which constitute the order of life in the relevant spheres, the inviolability of life, health and dignity of citizens, property and property provide the conditions created for normal activity institutions, enterprises, organizations, officials and citizens. Mandatory structural elements of the legal category "public order" are revealed. It is emphasized that this category consists of three main elements: - content of public order; - means of regulation; - the goal of establishing public order. An analysis of scientific research in this area was carried out, the main scientific opinions regarding the formation of the category "public order" were revealed. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that public order is a multifaceted phenomenon that includes aspects of morality, psychology, law, economics, etc. Public order is the basis, the social standard of relations in society. Public order is a system of social relations regulated by legal and other social norms, which ensures the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, their life and health, respect for honor and human dignity. It has been considered that public control, which affects the indicator of the level of public trust in state power, that is, everything that happens on the initiative of the state power and is carried out by it and its individual representatives, must be "transparent", because control can only be made available for inspection and clear about an object that can be analyzed in terms of content and form.

Pashtun culture is a rich and diverse culture that has been shaped by centuries of history and tradition. Often referred to as Pashtunwali, this culture encompasses every aspect of daily life, from social norms and customs to religious practices and cuisine. As an ethnic group, the Pashtun people are primarily located in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They are known for their proud and distinctive culture that emphasizes loyalty, hospitality, and respect for the Pashtun code of conduct. A central aspect of Pashtun is the Pashtunwali, which is the traditional code of conduct of the Pashtun people. Derived from the Pashto language, this code emphasizes concepts like courage, honor, and hospitality, and serves as a guide for how Pashtuns should conduct their lives. Hospitality is one of the most valued traits in Pashtun culture, and guests are treated with the utmost respect and care. This tradition dates back to the times of the ancient Silk Road, when traveling merchants of all backgrounds would stop at the Pashtuns' homes and receive food, shelter, and care. Music and dance are also cherished in Pashtun culture, with traditional instruments like the rubab (a lute-like instrument) and tabla (a percussion instrument) used to create melodic and rhythmic pieces. The attan, a traditional dance, is common at weddings, religious festivals, and other celebrations. The Pashtuns are a primarily Muslim community, and religion is deeply ingrained in their culture. Islamic practices like praying five times a day, fasting during Ramadan, and giving to charity are all important parts of life for Pashtuns. However, Pashtunwali also places a strong emphasis on tolerance and respect for other religions, and there is a long history of coexistence between different faiths in the region.

Background: Heart failure is a major growing problem and affects not only patients but also their families and community networks and reduces the functional capacity of patients and impairs their social life. Research questions: This study was conducted to investigate relationship between illness-related worries and social dignity in patients with heart failure. Design: The study had a descriptive-analytic design, and data collection was carried out by means of two specific questionnaires. Participants and context: A total of 130 inpatients from cardiac wards in hospitals affiliated with Tehran and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences participated. Ethical consideration: This study was approved by the Research Committee of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Results: The highest mean score of illness-related worries was attributed to the dimension of patient’s worry of physical–mental complications, and the least mean score was related to the dimension of the worry about the future of disease. The highest mean score of social dignity was associated with the dimension of social communication and support, and the least is attributed to the dimension of burden to others (economic). Pearson’s statistical test showed a significant correlation (r = 0.455, p < 0.05) between the score of illness-related worries and social dignity. Discussion: As the result of this study showed that reducing illness-related worries in patients with heart failure can improve their social dignity, using strategies to decrease worries and promote social dignity in these patients is recommended. Conclusion: This study affirms the importance of careful evaluation of individual patients to determine their needs related to dignity. We hope these results will help to promote actions by patient-care staff that honor and support patient dignity, resulting in benefits to patients and developing the quality of care based on human rights.

The use of anthropological methods and models to inform the conceptualization of social history is no longer a novelty by any means. Whereas the historian has long documented and interpreted the events and sometimes the material objects of past times, and placed them in causal relationships, in recent years anthropologists have helped historians to unveil the multiplicity of meaning in a particular sets of events or material objects. Common and effective applications of such collaboration have been made with regard to such concerns as kinship and marriage, the nature of personal honor, hospitality, and the ritualized expression of group identity. Yet historians have also employed an anthropological approach to the ritualistic or semiotic aspects of whole communities.

The seventieth birthday commemoration of the outstanding representative of Hunga­rian Turkic studies, Professor Mária Ivanics, was held 11 September 2020, at 11 a.m., in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences building at the University of Szeged in Hungary. Professor Ivanics’s many friends, colleagues, and students gathered to congratulate her and pay tribute to her professional achievements. The Vice Dean of the faculty, Klára Sándor, Academician András Róna-Tas (in absentia), Professor Sándor Papp, and Professor István Zimonyi spoke in honor of Professor Ivanics. Among these presenters, Professor István Zimonyi, the head of the Department of Altaic Studies and the Department of Medieval History, spoke on behalf of the former department about Ivanics’ academic career and presented the volume Ottomans–Crimea–Jochids: Studies in Honour of Mária Ivanics, in which leading Hungarian and foreign scholars and young researchers published papers dedicated to her. This Festschrift presents various aspects of the development of Turkic culture and languages, Turkic­Hungarian relations (including Ottoman-Hungarian relations), as well as the history and culture of the Ottoman Empire and the Golden Horde. It contains 29 works by scholars from universities in Germany, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Hungary. The collected articles are presented in five languages – English, German, Russian, Hungarian, and Turkish.

Fleeting changes in economic, political and social life dictate the need for changes in the legal field, where the work is not only lawyers but also forensic medical experts, the main job is to help the judicial and investigative authorities in establishing the truth in specific cases where crimes against life, health, honor and dignity. In this article the difficulties with which forensic medical expert has faced during determining the degree of injuries under the criteria of "indelible disfigurement of face" and suggested ways to resolve the conflicts are analyzed. Objective. Analyzation of forensic and legal approaches to solve questions and to find ways to resolve conflicts. Conclusion. We are convinced that no specialist whether the forensic medical expert, an investigator or a judge can not single-handedly solve the problem of disfigurement of face, therefore consider it appropriate to solve the research question within the commission or a comprehensive forensic examination, a fundamental part of which is determined by the person that appointed it to the list of specialists who have the necessary aesthetic ideas to solve the issue on its merits. Order or decision of the representatives of the law enforcement bodies confirm the powers of the Commission within the issues to be addressed and, accordingly, take the possible claims, by the exit of members of the expert committee for the limits of its competence. Despite the fact that our opinion may not be absolutely perfect, this publication we invite experts of forensic experts and lawyers to fruitful discussions and address the issues raised.

Based on a field research conducted in the State of Maranhão (Brazil), we consider aspects of empowerment prompted by a traditional female leadership existent in several cities of that state. This headship was established in the context of the celebrations in honor of Holy Spirit and provides material which raise interesting questions, such as: Has the female leadership empowered women who play during this festivity? How do the women who participate evaluate their own role within the overall context of the ceremony? Did their headship contribute to undermining racial, social, and gender prejudices? Although our object of study belongs to the field of cultural studies, encompassing both performative and representational aspects of this widely spread Brazilian manifestation, in order to exemplify empowerment, these questions will be addressed having as a case study a group of women called Caixeiras do Divino [The Holy Spirit’s Drumers], who are the responsible for the general organization of the ceremony.

This research aims to investigate the existence and continuity of Masambo singing in Tumaratas Dua Village. Qualitative research methods were applied by utilizing documentation, interview, and observation techniques. A musical approach, particularly through theories in ethnomusicology and music psychology, was used to analyze various aspects of Masambo Singing. The research findings include several things: first, Masambo singing functions as a form of community expression, conveying prayer requests, expressions of gratitude, and as a means of communication. Second, the existence of Masambo singing provides significant benefits in maintaining cultural continuity and strengthening community solidarity. Third, the lyrics in Masambo singing are constantly changing according to the needs of the community. Fourth, the times affect the continuity of Masambo singing. Fifth, Masambo singing contains social values such as honor, mutual cooperation, deliberation, and sacrifice. Sixth, changes in Masambo singing are influenced by social, religious, cultural, and economic factors.

The presented paper aims at addressing one of aspects of study of social relations in the Lusatian culture, namely exclusion of some children bodies from the kin cemetery. In the course of the Lusatian culture development, this self-inclusiveness of human groups ceased leading to attributing the kin status even to the newborns. However, recent studies of numerous Lusatian cemeteries seem to question this hypothesis. This discrepancy can be partly explained by burying some infants, as well as adults, in consecrated places outside the kin cemeteries. This is well manifested in case of the settlement at Łęczyska, Łodź province where dozens of children and adults have been buried in distinctively isolated three zones, which correspond to the triple model of the rite de passage. This clearly implies that even individuals, otherwise excluded from a given social group, are treated with due honor and respected after the death so their souls can be granted eternal peace.

Two theories compete to explain the distribution of professional prestige among lawyers. Each theory arises out of a general theory of the social organization of the legal profession. Their disagreement centers on the source of the values that underlie lawyers’ prestige order and on the aspects of the division of labor that are consequently salient in determining prestige. The client-type thesis holds that the profession is organized largely by its relationships with its clients, and so lawyers esteem service to socially powerful clients. The professional purity thesis holds that the profession is organized around a core of abstract knowledge, and so lawyers esteem work that is “professionally pure,” in the sense of being free of non-legal considerations. Analyses of prestige judgments from a contemporary sample of lawyers in the city of Chicago reveal that some of lawyers’ professional values are intrinsic to the profession, as predicted by the professional purity thesis. Lawyers’ esteem for professionally pure work complements their tendency to derogate service to people—especially those with little wealth or power—and to esteem service to large, powerful, and wealthy organizations.

The activity of society “Dynamo” in historical and modern aspects in solving the problem of patriotic education of youth as one of the fundamental tasks of the modern Russian state is considered. It is shown that throughout the public organization “Dynamo” history through the active involvement of children to a healthy lifestyle forms the younger generation of an active life position, the desire for physical development, sports achievements for the glory of Russia. The essence of the organization society “Dynamo”, designed along with other tasks to strengthen the physical and spiritual health of Russian citizens of different age groups, using a variety of organizational forms and health-saving technologies is revealed. We show the aspect of coaching work with the younger generation, in which special attention is paid to the patriotic education of young people and teenagers seeking sports achievements. Within the modern structure of the society “Dynamo” the system and quality of sports training in its divisions are analyzed. Traditionally the results are checked in the course of numerous competitions. The importance of Spartakiads and competitions of “Dynamo” society in patriotic education of young people, which encourage the desire for health, strength, beauty, readiness to defend the sports honor of Russia in the athletes, is shown.

For example, based on the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERD), Catholic hospitals have refused to forgo medically provided nutrition and hydration (MPNH), and Catholic hospitals have refused to provide emergency contraception (EC) and perform abortions or sterilization procedures. I consider whether it is justified to refuse to offer EC to victims of sexual assault who present at the emergency department (ED). A preliminary question, however, is whether a hospital’s refusal to provide services can be conceptualized as conscience based.

This article discusses the economic empowerment among the disabled in UD Mutiara Handycraft Karangsari Buayan, Kebumen Regency, Central Java seen from the maqāṣid al-syarī’ah perspective. The economic empowerment aims at empowering the disabled to be more creative and have a better living standard in economic and social aspects. Through this program, they are expected to produce work that can make money, have jobs and be more confident in communicating and interacting with other people. The disabled economic empowerment is very important in order to improve their ability and skills so that they can carry out economic activities as normal people can do. Islamic law has several objectives, namely protecting the religion (ḥifżu ad-dīn), protecting the wealth (ḥifżu al-māl), protecting the soul (ḥifżu an-nafs), protecting the generation (ḥifżu an-nasl) and protecting the mind (ḥifżu al-‘aql). Some scholars suggested the sixth goal of Islamic law, i.e. protecting the honor (ḥifżu al-’arḍ). These objectives are well-known by the term maqāṣid al-syarī’ah. After collecting the data, the author analyzed them using theory of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah. The results of this study shows that the economic empowerement of the disable in UD Mutiara Handycraft suits the theory of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah, which includes protecting the religion, the wealth, the soul, the generation, the soul and the honor.

Islam exists to liberate mankind from unequal social conditions. Islam rejects all forms of tyranny, exploitation, domination, and hegemony in various aspects of life: economy, politics, culture, gender and others. Basically Islam never forbids women who want to work (career). This study tries to analyze the position of career women in the perspective of Maqashid sharia. This research was conducted using a conceptual approach, namely the Maqashid Shari'ah concept. The results of this study indicate that there are five objectives of maqashid ash-shari'ah, namely to protect or ensure the continuity of one's faith (hifdz ad-din), their lives (hifdz nafs), their minds (hifdz al-'aql), their descendants ( hifdz an-nasl) and their wealth (hifdz mal). All of these five main objectives of sharia are intended to promote the general welfare of mankind. There are many benefits of women working and pursuing their careers. Someone who works will earn income that makes himself independent (hifdz nafs), useful and can give alms to others as recommended by his religion (hifdz ad-din). A person who does alms and good deeds will get his own honor in the eyes of his community (hifdz al 'ird). Independence and honor have noble values ​​that we can find in various verses of the Qur'an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad.

Yadam is a genre that stands out among the Chinese narratives of the late Joseon Dynasty, and the 18th century was the heyday of pure Yadam. This paper is the result of a study of the narrative aspects and characteristics of lawsuit story, which appeared in the 18th century. The lawsuit story of the 18th century contains various incidents and their economic, institutional, and social backgrounds, including a fraud case surrounding the right to pay tribute, a false accusation case dealing with adultery between a man and a woman, and a murder case that focused on family honor. We also looked at the parts that the author of Yadam paid attention to in the lawsuit and what kind of story it unfolded. For example, the narrative unfolded through the process of simulating a crime by forging documents on National Memorial Day, solving a crime using physical characteristics, and resolving the resentment through an autopsy during the process of reinvestigating the crime. Through this analysis, it was confirmed that the narrative characteristics of the 18th century lawsuit story are that crimes in everyday life are narrated, cases are solved with specific evidence, and lawsuits take place across reality and unreality. It is difficult to say for certain that this is the development pattern and narrative characteristic unique to lawsuit story in the 18th century. However, considering that the story dealing with the lawsuit appeared for the first time at the time and was rarely included in subsequent lawsuit story, it can be said to be a story limited to a specific period.

This article investigates from a historical and sociological perspective, Beethoven's struggle for the guardianship of his nephew, Karl, from November 1815 until September 1820. Its purpose is to illuminate Beethoven's knowledge and actions in the case of guardianship against the backdrop of contemporary historical and sociological conditions. In the early nineteenth century guardianship meant most certainly more than just the acceptance of legal custody of a minor; rather it was understood as an expression of the public recognition of talent, assets and social standing, as well as of character and honor. It furthermore functioned as an indicator of social status and position. Of great significance were also aspects of the position of legal guardian, the types of disputes with relatives, matters of family politics, the societal roles of fathers, issues of child-rearing, perceptions of status and rank, the traditional construction of gender difference and, lastly, norms of sexual behavior. The article reads Beethoven's letters and statements against the guardianship provisions of the Allgemeines Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch and contemporary legal practice, and argues that his struggle for Karl's guardianship was motivated by his ideas about social advancement through education as well as gendered norms of good parenthood.

However, with the diversity, there needs to be balance to avoid differences that may cause friction or conflict. Bandung is one of the heterogeneous cities in terms of religion, culture, ethnicity, language, and social aspects. Therefore, balance and harmony are necessary in such situations and conditions. Religious moderation is essential, where adherents of a religion are not trapped in boundaries that promote extreme teachings that prioritize their own teachings. Thus, it is expected to create an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation amidst diversity. This research aims to examine the actualization of religious moderation in the midst of pluralistic society in tolerance village, Bandung City. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with a phenomenological approach. The results of this study explain that religious moderation in tolerance village is defined as a harmony in religious practices demonstrated through attitudes and religious experiences that respect and honor each other, as well as being open in carrying out religious activities in accordance with their respective beliefs. Understanding of religious moderation in tolerance village is also introduced with the concept of multi-religion, with the aim of the community in tolerance village being able to understand that differences in religion are not obstacles to living together peacefully and harmoniously.

This research is a qualitative phenomenological, with three methodological implications, namely (1) to put the focus on the observation and study of the social practices that take place as rergularitas daily, (2) to notice cultural aspects or dimensions that surround the practice of social actors, and (3) to put the actors as knowledgeable agents of social practice, it is necessary for the analysis of strategic conduct. The experiment was conducted in Malang, East Java, precisely in the city of Malang, with feld activities for one year, ie since the beginning of October 2011 to October 2012, and obtained the following results. First, Aremania football fans everywhere characterized as football fans in general. This is consistent with the conception of football supporters who claim that football fans are different from other fans because of the audience but also have high levels of bigotry against high club. However, it is wrong to equate Aremania with other football fans. Because, unlike fanatical fanaticism of Aremania of the other football fans. But the ethics are culture fanatic fans who wanted to be constructed by Aremania. Fanatical but should not be to the extent of harm to others. There is respect for the values of humanity while keeping the honor and dignity of the people of Malang. Secondly, based on the emic perspective, football fans have covered broader meaning than merely watching football. Devoting time and energy maximize resources belonging to supporting his favorite club is also interpreted as a football supporter culture. Even time consuming as well as the soul-body to support his/her favorite team is also defned as the culture of football fans. Third, even football and it’s important for Arema people of Malang, but its primacy over the instrumental is more pride and underwriters including a source of honor and dignity of Malang people. This is consistent with the ethos of the culture of the Malang who “comes frst” matter of honor and dignity.

Javaneese culture adopts and mixes customs from some religions and local beliefs, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. Funeral customs may vary across cultures and religions, but there is something common, a ceremony. Funerary customs comprise the complex of beliefs and practices used by a culture to remember and respect the dead, from interment itself, to various monuments, prayers, and rituals undertaken in their honor. Additionally, funerals often have religious aspects which are intended to help the soul of the deceased reach the afterlife. Thus, death is concieved as something terrifying at one side and something waited for at the other side. To respect the moment, people gather and pray for the death and for themselves. The ceremony, i.e. the feast, gave benefecial effects in their social life, creating harmony and solidarity between the members of the community. So, for Javaneese, to show that death has meanings, they create and adopts customs, and practice it whenever such event emerge

It may seem strange today to study aspects of the political sphere—from foreign policy to diplomacy and the military—in the context of sexuality. But the Belle Epoque (1871–1914) was an era of prestige politics, also with respect to the politics of sexuality. This article reveals how the Eulenburg Scandal of 1906 to 1909 used sexual morality as a way to explain and interpret the tensions that pervaded Germany's domestic affairs and international relations. The reliance on sexual mores as an explanation for large-scale political events was the result of an ever-intensifying chain of national and international complications—complications that later undermined Germany's sense of national honor. The Eulenburg Scandal is remembered today mainly as the first major homosexual scandal of the twentieth century, but contemporaries experienced it in a wider sense: it became Germany's counterpart to the Dreyfus Affair in France—two examples of political, social, and cultural conflict that threatened the foundations of their respective countries.

I end with another parable, but it is also a true story. Harvey Gushing, the famous surgeon after whom the Gushing Lectures are named, made an international reputation in his allegiance to quality. He badgered his profession to a higher standard of self-effacement and railed against the debasement of clinical skills and overemphasis on research and pursuit of personal gain. We honor him to this day because those were, and remain, important points. Yet, Harvey Gushing served as a surgeon during World War I and at Ypres. Although the Allied mortality was as much as 50,000 soldiers a day, not counting the wounded, Gushing refused to operate on any more than two patients each day, arguing that to do so would have lowered his standard of care for his patients a – standard that made sense in one time but that became strikingly insensitive, and I suggest even unethical, in another when confronted with a different reality.

Education is important in global life because it determines the quality of human resources. Education in Indonesia has begun to focus on providing educational services for children with above average intelligence through the Special Talent Education (PBI) program, which will contribute to the honor and reputation of the Indonesian nation among other nations in the world. This study intends to determine the effect of achievement motivation, self-efficacy, self-regulation, school environment, and social support on sports achievement of South Sulawesi State High School Special Gifted Students. The research method is quantitative with this type of correlational research and ex-post facto design. Data collection techniques were carried out by documenting primary sports achievement data and giving questionnaires to students. Descriptive data analysis, multiple linear regression requirements test, and hypothesis testing are the data analysis techniques used. This study found a significant influence between achievement motivation, self-efficacy, self-regulation, school environment, and social support, both partially and simultaneously, on the sports achievement of South Sulawesi State High School Specialized Sports Talent students. Finally, this study provides input for the future to continue sports achievement research which has aspects of self-regulation and the school environment as well as social support without excluding other variables that can affect the increase in sports achievement and student academic achievement

Речь идет о длящихся короткое время торговых фестивалях – «потомках» древнеримских, посвященных божествам празднеств. Связанные с обрядами плодородия, в контексте христианства они превратились в парохиальные торжества в честь локального святого-покровителя, а сегодня – в действа по промоушну и продаже одного конкретного, исторически производящегося в данной местности «монопродукта» – пищевого артефакта или алиментарного сырья. В отличие от других, сугубо торговых структур (магазинов, рынков и т.д.), сагра представляет собой комплексное начинание: сохраняя традиции праздника, сопряженного с народным гуляньем, фестивальным началом и культурной программой (манифестацией локального фольклора, выступлением музыкантов и т.д.), а также масштабным застольем, она является в первую очередь полноценной коммерческой инициативой. В статье рассматриваются различные аспекты функционирования сагр: традиционные их составляющие, факторы, обусловившие жизнеспособность и ренессанс этого феномена, особенности борьбы за его «чистоту», причины популярности у населения, а также редкие и наиболее распространенные формы самих мероприятий. This article is devoted to sagra (pl. sagre) – a historical phenomenon, poorly studied in scientific terms, but very popular in Italy. Sagre are short trade festivals – the "descendants" of the ancient Roman ones, dedicated to the deities associated with fertility rites. Christianity turned these festivals into parochial celebrations in honor of the local patron saint and today they mainly serve to promote and sell one specific, historically produced in this area "monoproduct" – raw food or cooked products. Unlike purely commercial structures like shops or markets, sagra is a complex event: while being full-fledged commercial initiative, it conserves the traditions of a holiday associated with a festival and a cultural program (manifestation of local folklore, performance of musicians, etc.) and involves a large–scale feast. The article discusses various aspects of sagre: their traditional components, the factors of their viability and rise, the struggle for its "purity", the reasons for its popularity, and unusual forms of these events.

This article surveys Ghassan Kanafani’s fictions, arguing that his literature of resistance features militant men or ordinary men coping with the consequences of dislocation. Hence, the presence of women is mainly subordinate. Then the article investigates the ambivalent presence of women in two novellas diverging from Kanafani’s mainstream texts which marginalize women, offering instead prevailing female figures: All That’s Left to You (1966) and Umm Saad (1969). In the former, Maryam loses her honor, getting pregnant out of wedlock just as her people lose Jaffa; the fallen woman allegorically becomes the lost nation, and thus assumes negative attributes of the mother archetype. In the latter, this ancillary presence changes as the titular heroine enacts resistance and attachment to the land. Umm Saad assumes the positive attributes of the mother archetype, figuratively becoming the fertile land to be regained. Using a relevant framework on resistance literature and archetypal criticism on the feminine, this article shows the close association between women and the Palestinian land (the positive ideals of liberty and fertility as well as the negative meanings of loss/disgrace). Such ambivalence can be understood in a range of positive and negative aspects of the mother archetype. Appealing to recurring patterns and primordial aspects of the human psyche, Kanafani asserts the universalism of his committed fiction, the right to regain the land as a basic human need, and the richness of the mother archetype to the collective unconscious of a nation. Hence, this article problematizes traditional gender roles in Kanafani’s fiction.

The article is devoted to the philosophical and legal problems of the value aspects of the legal doctrine of the ideas of natural law in the regulation of social relations, which within the existing legal doctrines are designed to enrich the legal toolkit, to reveal the essential properties of law as a phenomenon. It was found that the term «doctrine» in relation to legal and state understanding covers all essential properties and approaches to these phenomena. Relying on the scientific achievements of legal scholars, it is possible to find out the essence of law and the state, and later, to take this knowledge as a basis for law-making activities for the formation of legislation and for its full interpretation. It is emphasized that, based on the statements of scientists, legal doctrine should be understood as a complete and harmonious system of principles, views, ideas, ideas, concepts, which forms the foundation of legal understanding, through which it has a direct influence on law-making and law enforcement. It is noted that the essence of a person is to fully exist, to ensure his livelihood, without violating the rights and freedoms of other people, and to contribute to the restoration and preservation of peaceful and humane coexistence of mankind in the globalized space. Therefore, a person's right to life, to observe the principle of preserving human dignity and all the needs arising from this can be considered natural in the essence of a person. The doctrine of natural law in no way opposes its ideas to the positivist approach, but on the contrary, allows to prevent the arbitrariness of norms adopted by the state regarding the honor and dignity of a person. The valuable aspects of the doctrine of natural law consist in the general human perception of natural-law norms as divine (for a believer), natural-physical laws of the construction of the universe (for materialists).

The article examines the origin of the concept of human behavior. It was found that human behavior became the subject of study in various fields of knowledge. The origins of the formation of the concept of human behavior go back to Antiquity, which can be traced in the works of famous philosophers and thinkers. In this period, the concept of justice and coexistence of members of society was considered. It was established that Christianity had a significant influence on human behavior, which became the starting point in the formation of human behavior, worldview and, as a result, the creation of formal rules that gradually spread to all spheres of human existence. Historical events that were important for changing paradigmatic ideas about human behavior can also be traced during the First and Second World Wars, because it was during these tragic times that the very value of a person and his life, health, honor and dignity acquired a different color, which also influenced behavior and its interpretation. Human behavior can be considered based on age, value, social, moral, somatic, economic, labor, political markers, etc. The formation of human behavior begins at an early age, and parents are primarily agents of the child's socialization and guides to an independent life and in the process of the child's initial learning of his own reaction to events and the differentiation of positive and negative behavior, which builds the basic framework for his further interaction with the surrounding world. All these components affect the further formation of certain standard patterns in a person, which he subconsciously uses as a reaction to the surrounding world. Considerable changes that took place in the post-war period and in the postmodern period are studied. Attention is focused on the change in human behavior in the present. The impact of the war on the behavior of children and youth, which underwent significant changes, was analyzed.

mestic violence.The article is devoted to the analysis of the features of bringing criminal responsibility for committing domestic violence. It has been proven that the establishment of criminal responsibility for committing domestic violence is important for the following reasons: firstly, from the point of view of protecting the rights of victims, since domestic violence is one of the most serious forms of violation of rights, it endangers social values, such behavior can encroach on mental and physical health, honor, dignity, sexual freedom and sexual integrity; secondly, its establishment is part of Ukraine’s international obligations; thirdly, when domestic violence is criminalized, victims are more likely to seek help from law enforcement agencies, they are certain that their complaints will be carefully considered and their rights will be protected; fourth, criminalizing domestic violence helps prevent illegal behavior. At the same time, there are still certain problematic aspects related to bringing criminal responsibility for committing domestic violence. The mentioned actualizes the research of the chosen issue.Special attention is paid to the importance of the Convention of the Council of Europe on the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence and the fight against these phenomena of 11.05.2011 in the establishment of criminal liability for the commission of domestic violence and the changes made to criminal and criminal procedural legislation in connection with bringing the legislation into compliance with the norms of the Convention.The statistical information of appeals regarding domestic violence and criminal proceedings considered by the court was analyzed. The problematic aspects of criminal responsibility for committing domestic violence include: 1.Establishing the systematicity of domestic violence. 2. Inefficient investigation. 3. Attribution of domestic violence to cases of private prosecution.It was concluded that the criminalization of domestic violence is a significant step on the way to European integration, Ukraine’s fulfillment of international obligations, and protection of victims of domestic violence. Taking into account the shortcomings and challenges that have arisen in connection with bringing guilty persons to criminal responsibility, it is proposed to carry out the following measures: firstly, the development of a clear judicial practice in the matter of establishing systematicity as a sign of a criminal offense provided for in Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, secondly, the formation of a non- discriminatory attitude towards victims among law enforcement officers and, in general, the formationof intolerance to any manifestations of domestic violence in society; third, the exclusion of domestic violence and crimes related to domestic violence from private prosecution cases.

Ethnoculture as an integral system that combines the traditional with the innovative can preserve its identity, provided that it is based on universal moral ideals. For the Chechens, ethical values are not just a set of systematic rules, but spiritual customs of social interaction, through which society has main-tained stability. The moral code of the Chechen people is based on honor, conscience, and nobility and reflects all aspects of moral existence. Despite a number of studies of the traditions, ethnoculture and customs of the Vainakh people, many problems of the spiritual and moral component of culture are not fully understood. Disregard for moral norms and the priority of material values is a modern reality, and for the effectiveness of the spiritual and moral development of the young generation, it is neces-sary to combine the moral experience of ethnic cul-ture with universal religious and ethical ideals. The fate of an ethnic group depends on its moral stabil-ity in the face of challenges of social transfor-mations, which, in turn, determines the relevance of this work. Since conscience is a spiritual mechanism that demonstrates the extent to which a person re-mains committed to their moral principles, it plays a crucial role in the process of forming the moral prin-ciples of a person.
