This paper represents the continuation of the research started within the article Linguo-cultural qualifiers in the Dictionary of Serbian language, where we have marked as linguo-cultural qualifiers the following dictionary markers: etn. (ethnology, ethnography), prazn. (superstition), mit. (mythology, mythological), ist. (history, historical), rlg. (religion, religious), teol. (theology, theological), crkv. (church), pravosl. (Orthodoxy, orthodox) and kat. (Catholic). On this occasion, we have chosen those lexemes which are marked by the qualifier etn. (ethnology, ethnography) in the Dictionary of Serbian language (2011), i.e. those which refer to Serbian folk life and customs, or to be more precise – names of holidays, customs, rituals, parts of folk clothes, popular games and similar, as most of these lexemes represent the so-called non-equivalent lexis and are usually problematic in terms of translating or learning Serbian as a foreign language, but at the same time enable learning about Serbian culture and tradition.

Cet article est consacré aux usages du mot de « populisme » dans un grand titre de presse brésilien, le Jornal do Brasil , entre 1945 et 1964. Au cours de cette parenthèse démocratique entre deux dictatures, la catégorie apparaît pour désigner une façon indue d’adopter les masses populaires urbaines comme base politique. D’emblée polysémique, le « populisme » se transforme en outil de disqualification à droite comme à gauche, notamment contre l’acteur politique central de la période, le camp travailliste héritier de Getúlio Vargas. L’étude de la période 1945-1964 est ensuite mise au service d’une réflexion sur les usages actuels de « populisme » au Brésil, afin de comprendre les enjeux politiques et historiques de son emploi médiatique, tant pour qualifier le leader d’extrême droite Jair Bolsonaro que le président de gauche Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

(1) Background: Secondary acute myeloid leukemia (AML), i.e., AML arising from prior therapy (therapy-related) and/or an antecedent hematologic disorder (AHD) is generally associated with worse outcomes compared to de novo AML. However, recognizing the prognostic importance of genetic characteristics rather than clinical history, secondary AML is now considered a diagnostic qualifier rather than a separate disease entity. (2) Methods: To assess the association between clinical history and AML outcomes in the context of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), we retrospectively analyzed 759 patients with de novo AML, 115 with AHD AML, and 105 with therapy-related AML who received first allografts while in first or second remission. (3) Results: At the time of HCT, these three cohorts differed significantly regarding many patient and disease-specific characteristics, including age (p < 0.001), gender (p < 0.001), disease risk (p = 0.005), HCT-CI score (p < 0.001), blood count recovery (p = 0.003), first vs. second remission (p < 0.001), remission duration (p < 0.001), measurable residual disease (MRD; p < 0.001), and conditioning intensity (p < 0.001). Relative to patients with de novo AML, relapse rates were similar for patients with AHD (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.07, p = 0.7) and therapy-related AML (HR = 0.86, p = 0.4) after multivariable adjustment, as were relapse-free survival (HR = 1.20, p = 0.2, and HR = 0.89, p = 0.5) and overall survival (HR = 1.19, p = 0.2, and HR = 0.93, p = 0.6). Non-relapse mortality was higher for AHD AML (HR = 1.59, p = 0.047). (4) Conclusions: These data suggest that the clinical history by itself contains limited prognostic value for adults with AML undergoing allografting, supporting the most recent approach to use this information as a diagnostic qualifier rather than a disease entity.

À travers la promotion de ce qu’ils appellent les « nudges », Richard Thaler et Cass Sunstein prétendent jeter les bases d’une nouvelle philosophie des politiques publiques : le « paternalisme libertarien ». Les mesures associées à un tel programme réaliseraient l’exploit d’inciter les individus à prendre de meilleures décisions, dans leur intérêt bien compris, tout en préservant leur liberté de choix. Accueillis très positivement dans certains milieux politiques, vilipendés dans d’autres, les auteurs n’hésitent pas à qualifier leur approche de véritable « troisième voie ». Le paternalisme libertarien se présente comme un moyen d’améliorer drastiquement les politiques publiques, et ce dans de nombreux domaines.

This thesis is an analysis of advertising directed at Canadian women that appeared in Canadian publications during World War Two. The reaction advertisers had to women's new wartime roles reveals much about what they believed was appropriate for women. Wartime advertisements often appeared quite progressive in their portrayal of women at first glance. However, a closer look reveals that many advertisements contained ideas about women that were quite traditional, even if the surface image seemed progressive. Commercial and government advertisements have been analysed separately and this separate analysis reveals several differences between the two. Commercial advertisements encouraged consumption and presented it as an aid to women doing war work and to help them stay feminine while government advertisements stressed thrift and portrayed women as capable participants in the war effort. Despite this reliance on the traditional, much that is positive can be seen in advertising's wartime portrayal of women.

Cette étude retrace l’historique des luttes ouvrières à Billancourt depuis les années 50, dans leur rapport à la politique communiste, alors que domine un modèle militant communiste porté par les ouvriers qualifiés. Elle met en évidence et analyse les facteurs cachés des transformations affectant les différents conflits, et les identités ouvrières qui s’y manifestent. La domination du modèle communiste des années 50, ébranlée par la dynamique des conflits des années 1968, est portée par les ouvriers spécialisés. Cette dynamique est activée par les transformations du travail engagées dans les décennies antérieures. Leur insubordination, leur contestation du travail et du racisme, la force des grèves bouchon, contrarient la politique du PCF. L’initiative de la rupture de 1977, au sein de la gauche, témoigne de l’échec de l’ambition du PCF de rester le parti dirigeant. En 1981, le PCF mise en vain sur la réussite d’une participation gouvernementale non souhaitée. Cette participation déçoit les ouvriers, activant les contradictions de son corps militant. Alors, le monde de l’usine se défait. La centralité ouvrière et le concept de classe ont perdu toute capacité opératoire, cependant que la politique communiste de particularisation catégorielle est impuissante à endiguer une «balkanisation» politique du salariat. Des désaccords violents éclatent dans les sections, et se manifestent dans l’usine par des pratiques divergentes. La campagne radicale pour les «dix de Billancourt», les propositions d’alternatives gestionnaires, échouent. Les liens entre le parti et les ouvriers sont distendus, laissant les immigrés seuls et impuissants face aux suppressions d’emplois
This thesis retraces the history of the workers’ conflicts at Billancourt starting in the 1950ies in their connection with the communists’ policies, dominant at the time, and carried out by the skilled workers. It highlights and analyses the hidden factors of the transformations that affect the different conflicts and the worker identities that manifest themselves in these conflicts. The domination of the communist model of the 50ies, destabilized by the dynamics of the conflicts of the years around 1968, was the work of the skilled workers. This dynamism was stimulated by the transformation of work engaged upon in the previous decades. Their insubordination, their protests about work and racism, the strength of the blockade strikes, thwart the French communist party policy oriented towards the union from the unskilled workers to the engineer. The initiative of the rupture, in 1977, of the left, attested to the failure of the PCF’s ambition to remain the leading party. In 1981, the PCF counted in vain on a successful, but unwished for, participation in the government. This participation disappointed the workers, activating contradictions within its militant corps. The factory world dislocated. Working class centrality and class concept had lost all operational reality, while the communist policy of categorical particularization was powerless to stem a political "balkanisation" of wage earners. Violent disagreements broke out in the sections, and were seen in the factory by divergent practices. The radical campaign for the "ten of Billancourt", proposals for alternative management, failed. The ties between the party and the workers were weakened, leaving the immigrants alone and helpless in the face of job suppressions

Les archéologues québécois ne se sont penchés qu'au cours des dernières décennies sur l'utilisation des méthodes scientifiques pour caractériser l'origine des terres cuites grossières ou communes (TCC) que nous retrouvons en Nouvelle-France. Alors que l'archéologie européenne incluait largement les outils que sont, par exemple, l'examen en lames minces, la spectrométrie et le traitement statistique des données, c'est au début de la décennie 1980, avec les travaux d'André Proulx et de Lueger et Olivier que des techniques d'analyse quantitatives ou archéométriques furent appliquées à la céramologie québécoise. Ce projet de recherche a eu recours à l'analyse pétrographique, à la tomodensitométrie (CT-SCAN) et à différents outils informatiques et statistiques pour éclairer la provenance et les caractéristiques de tessons de terres cuites grossières par l’étude de leur pâte. Ces tessons sont issus de quatre sites de la région de Québec et associés à des contextes du XVIIe siècle: la maison des Jésuites (CeEt-27), l'îlot des Palais (CeEt-30), le Parc des Braves (CeEt-677) et le domaine Maizerets (CfEu-1). Le but était de prouver de façon satisfaisante que ce qu'on qualifiait de fabrication locale portait bien son nom. Par ricochet nous avons pu nous pencher sur la qualité de la fabrication de la céramique étudiée et tenter de reconnaître la signature de différents potiers, sans être pour autant capables de les identifier. Parallèlement, en recoupant certaines informations, on a cherché à établir un référentiel, reliant la couleur de la pâte et celle de la glaçure, applicable aux terres cuites grossières. L'utilisation de la tomodensitométrie, en plus de l'analyse pétrographique, a amené un questionnement sur les avantages et inconvénients respectifs de ces deux méthodes d’analyse.
Quebec archaeologists have been interested in applying scientific methods to the study of earthenware found in New France since the last few decades. European archaeologists used tools such as thin section layer analysis, spectrometry and statistics far before. In the 1980s André Proulx and Lueger and Oliver applied quantitative analysis to the study of Quebec ceramics. This project combines petrographic analysis, tomodensitometry (CT-SCAN) and statistical tools to examine the problem of ceramic provenance via the study of their pastes. Sherds were selected from 4 sites in Quebec City dating to the XVIIth century : la maison des Jésuites (CeEt-27), l'îlot des Palais (CeEt-30), le Parc des Braves (CeEt-677) and le domaine Maizerets (CfEu-1). The main purpose was to prove to our satisfaction that what we call local earthenware was indeed locally made. With the use of a CT-SCAN we were able to examine the quality of the manufacturing process and we tried to identify the work of different potters, ideally associating a particular manufacture to a specific potter. The use of the CT-SCAN together with petrographic analysis allows us to question both the advantages and disadvantages related to these methods.

La première partie de ce travail est une enquête historique menée à partir de sources variées. Le mouvement pédagogique habituellement nommé « pédagogie institutionnelle » est né en France dans les années 1960 et s’est rapidement divisé en deux courants, dont l’un est fortement influencé par la psychanalyse. Ce courant psychanalytique de la pédagogie institutionnelle s’est constitué autour des figures de Fernand Oury et Aïda Vasquez, auteurs en 1967 de Vers une pédagogie institutionnelle, dans lequel sont publiées six monographies commentées. L’auteur montre que l’écriture de monographies est une pratique ancienne dans le champ éducatif et prend sa source dans différentes champs. Cette pratique, largement répandue avant 1967, est renouvelée par le courant psychanalytique de la pédagogie institutionnelle à partir de 1962.Dans une deuxième partie, l’auteur inscrit ce travail dans une approche d’orientation psychanalytique. Questionnant son rapport à son objet de recherche, il s’appuie sur ses élaborations contre-transférentielles pour faire émerger ses questions de recherche. Il décrit ensuite un dispositif d’analyse des pratiques professionnelles qu’il met en place, en tant que formateur, dans le cadre de la formation des enseignants débutants du second degré. Dans ce dispositif qu’il propose de nommer « groupe monographique », les enseignants en formation sont invités à écrire des monographies. L’analyse d’un corpus de monographies produites dans ce cadre est à l’origine d’hypothèses sur les processus psychiques à l’œuvre pour les enseignants débutants dans leurs remaniements identitaires
The first part of this study consists in undertaking a historical investigation drawing on various sources. The pedagogical movement usually referred to as “institutional pedagogy” rose up in France in the 1960’s and rapidly split up into two currents, one of them being strongly influenced by psychoanalysis. This psychoanalytical current of institutional pedagogy has been built up around the prominent figures of Fernand Oury and Aïda Vasquez, authors in 1967 of Vers une pédagogie institutionnelle, a book presenting six commentated monographs. Yet, writing monographs in pedagogy is an ancient practice that takes root in different fields. Such practice, well-spread before 1967, has been renewed by the psychoanalytical current of institutional pedagogy since 1962. In the second part, the author, from a psychoanalytical perspective, explores his link to his own research object. His research questions hence derive from countertransferential working-through. Afterwards, he describes a work group device that he has implemented as a teachers’ trainer to analyze the professional practices of newly qualified secondary school teachers. In what he proposes to call a “monographic group”, participants are invited to write professional monographs. By analyzing a corpus of monographs produced within this framework, the author then forms hypotheses on the psychical processes at work for newly qualified teachers regarding their identity changes

L’art de la sculpture sur bambou se développe, vers le milieu de la dynastie des Míng (ca. 1500) dans la province du Jiāngsū, avec l’impulsion des lettrés qui s’intéressent à cet art. Ils transmettent aux artisans leur goût et leur concept esthétique, comme ils l’ont fait auparavant à travers les pièces en jade. Les objets artistiques en bambou, appréciés tant par la Cour que par les lettrés, deviennent ainsi une des créations les plus raffinées du XVIIIe siècle. C’est Jīn Yuányù 金元鈺, lettré des Qīng, qui dès 1807 parle des artistes-sculpteurs sur bambou de la ville de Jiādìng 嘉定, dans son Répertoire des artistes-sculpteurs sur bambou (Zhúrén lù, 竹人錄). Les artistes-sculpteurs ont réussi à transposer dans leur art les conceptions de la peinture, de la calligraphie et de la poésie en « maniant le ciseau comme le pinceau » (yòng dāo rú yòng bǐ, 用刀如用筆) et en traitant la peau du bambou comme le papier, donnant naissance à un art raffiné et élégant
Bamboo is not regarded as a precious material. Nevertheless, since the Jìn dynasty (265-420), it plays a symbolic, spiritual and moral role in the life of the Chinese. The art of bamboo sculpture was developed in the middle of the Míng dynasty (ca. 1500) in the Jiāngsū province, under the impulse of the scholars who were interested in this art. They passed on to craftsmen their taste and their aesthetic concept as they did before through pieces of jade. The bamboo artistic objects, appreciated by the Court as well as by the scholars, became one of the most refined creations of the XVIIIe century. It is Jīn Yuányù 金元鈺, a scholar of the Qīng dynasty, who, as early as 1807, spoke about the bamboo artists-carvers from his own town, Jiādìng 嘉定, in his Record of Bamboo Carvers (Zhúrén lù, 竹人錄). The artists-carvers succeeded in transposing in their art the painting, calligraphic and poetic conceptions by “handling the chisel like a brush” (yòng dāo rú yòng bǐ, 用刀如用筆) and by handling the bamboo skin as paper, giving birth, by this way, to a refined and elegant true art

This thesis has the aim to comprehend the development of the superior graduation in life service and daily scholar of the history teachers in-land of Sergipe. The History Course graduation was realized through the second part of (Projeto de Qualifica??o Docente-PQD), the so-called, Teaching Qualification Project of the Federal University of Sergipe, first settled in 1998. Eight teachers were chosen for this research with more than (15) fifteen years of teaching in the Fundamental and Medium levels at public schools of our state (Sergipe). This empiric research priviledged oral testimony from them, which (ones) reveled about the memory tragetory of life. Since childhood until the History Course graduation, besides the evidence as Principal of schools as well as the following classes. All of them were interviewed from in-land and they are from very poor families with lack of social economical conditions. Those evidencies point out economic limitations in their different towns, that contributed to the continuous obstacle in the following studies, moreover in the common market. Therefore they still teach in order to believe in who?s at the botton of this business. Their testimony about this history graduation through PQD , gave them new Professional horizons, modifying their pedagogic practice, choosing what is worth into the social space beyond life expectancy. Through the analyses from all the documents and evidence in loco, it was evident that this graduation is not sufficient to change all the acting of teaching. Consequently, the lack of scholar situation still happens because this qualification doesn?t consider the knowledge of the teachers into their contexts. This research could also observe that besides the changing purposes in the suggested common-job by the globalization, the public politics education, is still underdeveloped in-land of Sergipe. According to the educational laws which obliges all tearches should be graduated, it could be observed that nothing changed into their acting. The old curricula don?t give them new possibility in their acting. At last their salaries, poor conditions in their common-job as well as the difficult ways to get to their pos graduation course still contributes to the underdeveloped acting before they?d graduated from the period before of their graduation
Esta tese tem como prop?sito compreender os esdobramentos da forma??o superior em servi?o na vida e no cotidiano escolar de professores de Hist?ria no interior de Sergipe. A gradua??o em Hist?ria foi realizada atrav?s da segunda etapa do Projeto de Qualifica??o Docente (PQD) da Universidade Federal de Sergipe, implementado em 1998. Elegemos como sujeitos da pesquisa oito professores com mais de quinze anos de experi?ncia docente que atuam nos Ensinos Fundamental e M?dio em escolas p?blicas do interior sergipano. A pesquisa emp?rica privilegiou depoimentos orais destes sujeitos, que versaram sobre as mem?rias de trajet?rias de vida, desde a inf?ncia at? os efeitos da gradua??o em Hist?ria, al?m de relatos de gestores escolares e o acompanhamento das aulas dos professores. Todos os entrevistados t?m ra?zes em localidades rurais e s?o oriundos de fam?lias que viviam em condi??es socioecon?micas desfavor?veis. Os relatos apontaram limita??es econ?micas em suas localidades, fator que contribuiu para os constantes obst?culos na continuidade dos estudos, bem como para as dificuldades de inser??o no mercado de trabalho. Sob situa??es adversas, estes sujeitos permanecem na sala de aula, apostando em uma mobilidade social ascendente pela escolariza??o. Suas verbaliza??es sinalizaram que a gradua??o em Hist?ria, via PQD, possibilitou abertura de horizontes profissionais, modifica??o na pr?tica pedag?gica, mudan?as de valores e no espa?o social, inclusive de expectativas de vida. A partir da an?lise dos documentos, dos depoimentos e das constata??es in loco, ficou evidenciado que a qualifica??o em servi?o, por si s?, ? insuficiente para alterar a pr?tica docente. Conseq?entemente, a situa??o do fracasso escolar permanece porque esta qualifica??o n?o considera o saber docente em seus contextos. Esta pesquisa possibilitou observar que apesar das propostas de mudan?as no mundo do trabalho sugeridas pela globaliza??o, as pol?ticas p?blicas educacionais, t?m efeitos ainda modestos no interior sergipano. The dissertation analyses job-related education, training and development in Soweto since 1940. The effect which the interference of the National Party government had on jobrelated education for black South Africans in Soweto is examined, as it is of importance to know that qualifiers were only permitted to operate as trades people in the bantustans and not in the "white" cities. It is discussed that prior to the assassination of prime minister Dr H F Verwoerd in 1966, the NP government had little interest in promoting urban black upliftment. Also mentioned is the economic situation at that time, which forced the N P government to introduce the Manpower Training Act, permitting Africans to qualify in trades which were until 1981 reserved for whites only. At the eentre of the discussion are the few Sowetan colleges which deal with job-related education. training and development in the African township. Despite the demand for skills training of black South Africans, training deteriorated and the dissertation investigates the reasons surrounding the loss of interest in the communities and why interest groups were no longer concerned about this type of training. The dissertation concludes with a possible future perspective which needs to be implemented to enable job-related education, training and development in Soweto to expand. The need to train Sowetans in their own colleges as opposed to colleges outside Soweto is examined.

The history of the Cuban school is doubly intertwined with the history of the country’s social and economic evolution since the early days of the 1956 Revolution. Arguably, the escuela media superior has been the most subjected to experiments, reforms, successes, mistakes and difficulties, but it has been recognized as having a distinct degree of quality by international bodies, such as UNESCO. This ‘level’ of the Cuban educational system has assumed a fundamental role over the decades, after having resolved the shortcomings of the previous school system and having been adapted on several occasions to the changes in the socio-economic policies of the communist government. In fact, it trained qualified technicians essential to the economic development of Cuba and created a mass consciousness, whose unifying element resided in the collective commitment and not in that of the individual.

AbstractThe Netherlands has a long history of immigration. One of the oldest groups are the Chinese and one of the most recent ones are migrants from Poland. Both groups have created clear infrastructures for functioning in the Netherlands. One element thereof are complementary schools, i.e., community run schools that teach Chinese/Polish language and culture to Chinese/Polish students with a migration background, mainly on Saturdays. The teachers in these schools are generally community members who are not necessarily qualified as language or culture teachers. An ethnographic approach to these teachers’ classroom practices and perspectives shows that their professional practical knowledge as reflected in the operational and perceived curriculum domain are oriented more toward highlighting and promoting their home country’s national history, identity, ideology and values than to preparing their students for living in the superdiverse society of the Netherlands in which Dutch language and culture, also for many Chinese-Dutch and Polish-Dutch students are dominant.

AbstractThere has never been a golden age in Swedish education. However, there was a “silver age” that began approximately in the second half of the nineteenth century and ended around 1960. The chapter outlines this history. It demonstrates that the established view of the previous school system is deeply misleading. In fact, an increasing share of young cohorts were offered excellent educational opportunities. After World War I, a truly national curriculum was introduced that imparted relevant knowledge and skills to students based on the principles of teacher-led presentation, repetition, and practice, and by matching the sequence of topics to each student’s maturity and prior knowledge. A key element in the modernization of the educational system was the state’s preoccupation with ensuring that highly qualified and motivated persons were attracted to the teaching profession.

Abstract Migration patterns in Germany have changed considerably during the post-war period. The active recruitment of “guest workers” stopped during the 1970s and was replaced by family reunification. Two big crisis-driven immigration waves swept Germany, following the collapse of Yugoslavia and the crises in the countries from Syria to Afghanistan. These immigration waves triggered legislation aimed at reducing immigration incentives, especially in the asylum law. From the early 2000s on, German policy turned more liberal following the EU Directives on freedom of movement and for highly qualified persons from non-EEA countries. Migration patterns changed dramatically, with EEA countries becoming the leading source of German immigration. EEA countries replaced the Anglo-Saxon immigration countries as the leading sources and destinations of migration. It is reassuring for economic policy that EU migrants, notably from Bulgaria and Romania, display high levels of employment and have boosted German employment, while unemployment rates reached historic lows. During the past decades, migration obstacles for EEA citizens have been lowered or abolished. Main obstacles to immigration of non-EEA citizens persist due to the restrictive law on residence permits. As a result, student visas, academic credentials, or family reunification are the main legal pathways to Germany. Given the difficulty to proof the equivalence of a foreign non-academic degree, it is far more promising for persons from third countries to apply for asylum with the chance to get a permanent residence permit after several years as a tolerated migrant.

On the other hand, teachers of immigrant background constitute a small minority even though the demand for teachers is high, with secure jobs that pay well. Moreover, there is a debate on the question whether teachers with an immigrant background are especially qualified for teaching culturally diverse classes. Given that persons with an immigrant background tend to aspire to higher educational and occupational goals than non-immigrant individuals (Van De Werfhorst & Van Tubergen, Ethnicities 7(3):416–444, 2007), the question arises why individuals with an immigrant background do not choose to become teachers more often.In light of this question, we provide an overview of studies from Switzerland and examine transitions of individuals into and out of Universities of Teacher Education in Switzerland as well as studies concerning active teachers.We will discuss current research evidence, that suggests that social background as well as motivations for choosing the fields of study (which usually play a significant role in explaining differing educational decisions) do not provide an explanation for the low enrolment rate into teacher education among students with immigrant background. Evidence indicates that dichotomizing into immigrant and non-immigrant might conceal differences in attitudes which particularly those from stigmatized cultural backgrounds face. These findings are highlighted by empirical insights on practicing teachers who experience a lack of recognition and who develop a range of strategies in response to these experiences.

Abstract A pair of ethylene oxide reactors have been in service for approximately twenty years. The shell material of construction is SA-543, Grade B, CL.1 They were designed according to ASME Section VIII Div.2. A temporal repair work was engineered to remove cracks and reweld. One-side welding approach was qualified per ASME Section IX. It is widely accepted that tensile residual stresses can be detrimental to the integrity of welded components. A combination of weld residual stress simulation and measurement was performed to predict and characterize the weld residual stresses. Generation and analysis of the models followed established best practice for computational welding mechanics. The weld residual stress profiles were optimized after several interactions and mockup coupons were prepared. The approach included the generation a representative computational welding mechanics model; calibration the free parameters in the model against test data; and then validation of the predictions of residual stresses against various experimental residual stress measurements. The residual stress states in both the original weld mock-up and the as-repaired weld were determined using two different experimental techniques: Air-abrasive Centre Hole Drilling (ACHD) for surface residual stresses and incremental Deep Hole Drilling (iDHD) for through-thickness residual stresses. Mechanical testing included tensile and impact testing along with hardness profiles. Controlled deposition approach was implemented to lower hardness. Extensive temporary repairs were successfully executed. New reactors with lower strength steel and post weld heat treatment are being fabricated for permanent replacement.

Modern state-of-the-art fatigue monitoring approaches gain in importance as part of the ageing management of conventional and nuclear power plant components (NPP) and particularly in the context of lifetime extension projects and new plants. A key feature of qualified fatigue monitoring is the measurement of realistic loads based on plant instrumentation and/or local temperature measurement. The major prerequisites for any subsequent fatigue assessment are the accurate component stress analysis and the identification of relevant cycles, using highly qualified and efficient cycle counting methods. In the framework of the paper the pertinent cycle counting methods such as rain flow and peak-valley, are evaluated and allocated to the relevant design codes. The peculiarities of a nuclear power plant typical one year operational thermal load time history is discussed in terms of the resulting stress-time history. The peak-valley and the rain flow methods are applied to that typical power plant operational load sequence and compared to the reference methods. Both idealized model transients without knowledge of the exact sequence in time and the processing of real load time histories are compared and considered. Design data and actual data for a given annual cycle of a Brazilian nuclear power plant (NPP) constitute the basis for a design code conforming (ASME Section III) fatigue assessment (calculation of partial usage factors for a reference piping component). Conventional and more advanced methodologies are subsequently applied for comparison purpose. The influence of the cycle counting method applied on the resulting partial fatigue usage factors are elaborated based on the given realistic plant data.

The fatigue assessment of power plant components based on local fatigue monitoring approaches is an essential part of the integrity concept and modern lifetime management. An integral approach like the AREVA Fatigue Concept (AFC) basically consists of two essential modules: realistic determination of occurring operational thermal loads by means of a high end fatigue monitoring system and related highly qualified fatigue assessment methods and tools. The fatigue monitoring system delivers continuously realistic load data at the fatigue relevant locations. Consequently, realistic operational load sequences are available as input data for all ensuing fatigue analyses. This way, realistic load data are available and qualified fatigue usage factors can be determined. The mode of operation of the fatigue monitoring system will be explained in the framework of a live demonstration by means of the FAMOSi (i = integrated) demonstration wall. The workflow starts with the continuous online measurement of outer wall temperatures transients on a pipe. Visualization is implemented within the FAMOSi viewer software. In a second step, inner wall temperatures are directly calculated. In a third step, the resulting linearly elastic stress history will be calculated as the basis for subsequent code conforming fatigue assessment. Subsequently, the related advanced fatigue assessment methods of the three staged AFC-approach are addressed.

A nuclear piping system which is found to be disqualified, i.e. overstressed, in design evaluation in accordance with ASME B&PV code, Section III, can still be qualified if further non-linear design requirements can be satisfied in refined non-linear analyses in which material plasticity and other non-linear conditions are taken into account. Our work presented earlier in ICONE16-20 categorized the design rules in the code into linear and non-linear design rules and attempted to clarify the corresponding design requirements. In this paper, an in-depth review of these rules and relevant requirements for time-history dynamic loads designated in Service Limit Levels C and D, such as those caused by e.g. water-hammer effects, is given. In particular, several changes of these rules in the current edition of the codes and their applications are addressed, and several rules which are intensively applied but often found to be inconsistent and confusing in Sweden are discussed. It is suggested that the design evaluation can be made directly through non-linear transient finite element analysis using a strain-based criterion for time-history dynamic loads of either reversing or non-reversing type.

It presents the reports of a qualified immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Brazil, with the objectives of constructing the immigrant's life story, treating the immigration theme from a socio-environmental perspective and presenting the factors that enable the adaptation and integration of the same to the new community. The methodologies used were Oral History and Life History, which were able to present the interviewee's narrative about his life and the migratory process, relating them to the researcher's understanding of the story told in the light of related bibliography. Semi-structured interviews were recorded, which were later transcribed and transformed into documents for the construction of the immigrant's life history. The document produced through the interviews was treated using Content Analysis, which enabled the perception of categories, which were analyzed in the results. The discussion revolved around the family configuration in the DRC, the social structure and group formation in the country, the social interaction of a citizen of the world, the trajectories and networks of contacts of the immigrant, and the codes, postures and institutionsthat are important in the migratory process. The conclusions reached were that poverty and lack of opportunities are the main causes of skilled immigration; whereas family and cultural structures are important elements in the construction of the immigrant's identity; that academic and religious institutions and immigrant associations play a significant role in the cultural adaptation and integration of foreigners, due to theproduction of social capital, and that socio-environmental elements can produce topophilia in relation to the new country chosen to reside temporarily or permanently.

This report has been written to serve as a history of the U.S. Aujeszky’s Disease (Pseudorabies) Eradication Program and as a guide when future disease eradication programs are considered. The report provides an overview of the program and its history and is generally nontechnical, with specific sections written by subject matter experts. The information was compiled during 2007, three years after the last four States qualified for Stage V (Free) Status. This eradication effort was formally initiated in 1989. The contents of this report include a variety of information that represents the viewpoints of individuals participating in the eradication effort. To introduce the challenge of pseudorabies (PRV), the report covers characteristics of the virus and the history of the disease in the United States, followed by the emergence of virulent strains in the 1970s that coincided with management changes in the swine industry. The report also discusses early attempts at PRV control, vaccines, and diagnostic tools, and then reviews various pilot projects, individual State experiences, and national debate on the pros and cons of eradication versus control. In addition, the report offers details on the evolution and acceptance of a national eradication program, including debate among industry and State/Federal officials, funding, testing protocols, cleanup plans, and the development of gene-deleted vaccines and their complementary tests. The ongoing threat of reintroduction from feral swine and emergency response plans are also included. Lastly, the technical coordinators have included a chapter on lessons learned from our various viewpoints on the eradication effort.
