Streszczenie:
Despite its relatively recent emergence over the past few decades, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) has important implications for the clinical practice of dentistry and dental research. OHRQoL is a multidimensional construct that includes a subjective evaluation of the individual’s oral health, functional well-being, emotional well-being, expectations and satisfaction with care, and sense of self. It has wide-reaching applications in survey and clinical research. OHRQoL is an integral part of general health and well-being. In fact, it is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an important segment of the Global Oral Health Program (2003). This paper identifies the what, why, and how of OHRQoL and presents an oral health theoretical model. The relevance of OHRQoL for dental practitioners and patients in community-based dental practices is presented. Implications for health policy and related oral health disparities are also discussed. A supplemental Appendix contains a Medline and ProQuest literature search regarding OHRQoL research from 1990-2010 by discipline and research design ( e.g., descriptive, longitudinal, clinical trial, etc.). The search identified 300 articles with a notable surge in OHRQoL research in pediatrics and orthodontics in recent years.

Streszczenie:
Pandemics over the years have been a constant threat towards mankind, the most recent COVID-19 outbreak is no exception to this. With the emerging demand of treating the outbreak, majority of the frontline workers have been assigned towards helping out the COVID-19 affected patients leaving the others behind. However, over time several healthcare practitioners have been using alternative forms of patient assessment tools. Heath Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) is one of the commonly used tools that have been widely used across Europe and America, using these, patients can self-evaluate their own conditions without requiring the assistance of a doctor. This paper focuses provides a conceptual framework that can be followed for quality of life assessment in chronic kidney patients using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQOL) questionnaire.

Streszczenie:
Introduction: The Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) uses sputum negativity as prognostic indicator but does not consider any other dimension of health. Apart from physical symptoms, TB patients face social and economic problems. Therefore, the overall impact of TB on health and patients’ perception of well being should be considered. This can be performed by measuring the Quality of Life (QoL). Methodology: A cross sectional study was undertaken in the Chalalkere Tuberculosis Unit of Chitradurga district for a period of two months between February and March, 2017. About 60 patients who are treatment for tuberculosis attending the tuberculosis unit were included as the study samples. The patients thus selected were obtained an informed, bilingual and written consent. Results: The mean score of the physical component summary (PCS) was 54.1, mental component summary (MCS) was 48.6, physical functioning (PH) was 62.1, role limitation due to physical health (RP) was 52.2, body pain was 60.2, general health was 41.7, role limitation due to emotional problem was 54, energy/fatigue was 44.4, mental health was 46.7 and social functioning was 49.2. Conclusion: The mean value of physical component summary, mental component summary, physical health and mental health were higher for class III of SES, RP, MH and VT were higher for Class V of SES and BP was higher for class I of SES.

Streszczenie:
AbstractObjectivesTo investigate the correlation between the four dimensions of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) constructs in a dental patient population.MethodsA cross-sectional study carried out at HealthPartners, Minnesota, USA. This study is a secondary data analysis of available adult dental patients’ data. The instruments used to assess the OHRQoL and HRQoL constructs were the Oral Health Impact Profile–version with 49 items (OHIP-49) and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Information System (PROMIS) measures v.1.1 Global Health instruments Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), respectively. We used Structural Equation Modeling to determine the correlation between OHRQoL and HRQoL.ResultsTwo thousand and seventy-six dental patients participated in the study. OHRQoL and HRQoL scores correlated with 0.56 (95%CI:0.52–0.60). The OHRQoL and Physical Health dimension of HRQoL correlated with 0.55 (95%CI:0.51–0.59). The OHRQoL and Mental Health dimension of HRQoL correlated with 0.51 (95%CI:0.47–0.55). When adjusted for age, gender, and depression, the correlation coefficients changed only slightly and resulted in 0.52 between OHRQoL and HRQoL Physical Health, and 0.47 between OHRQoL and HRQoL Mental Health. Model fit statistics for all analyses were adequate and indicated a good fit.ConclusionsOHRQoL and HRQoL overlap greatly. For dental practitioners, the OHRQoL score is informative for their patients’ general health status and vice versa. Study results indicate that effective therapeutic interventions by dentists improve patients’ OHRQoL as well as HRQoL.

Streszczenie:
Virtual healthcare information technologies (HIT) are being adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. We propose that even after Covid-19, virtual HIT can still have great potentials to address the challenges brought by the aging population on healthcare systems. The key questions are (1) what kinds of virtual HIT will be useful for seniors and (2) how these HIT will affect senior citizens’ health-related quality of life (HRQL)? Centered on the concept of HRQL and grounded on task-technology fit (TTF) theory, this paper builds a framework of useful virtual HIT in the context of long-term care for seniors. The framework proposes senior citizens’ human characteristics (i.e. restricted mobility, deteriorated working memory and attention, and social isolation) will influence their health-related tasks (task adaptability, autonomy, and interdependence). A set of virtual healthcare systems can be designed to fit seniors’ tasks. These HIT will increase seniors’ HRQL through increased task-technology fit (i.e. quality of healthcare, timeliness of healthcare, and relationships with seniors). This framework can serve as a base for researchers and practitioners in their endeavor to design more suitable HIT for seniors.
