This article analyzes how the two figures ‘healthy boy’ and ‘invalid girl’ are negotiated visually at the end of the nineteenth century and how the idea of being healthy or the opposite relates to these two figures. The center of the analysis are illustrations of invalid girls and healthy boys printed in the Scandinavian periodical Nordisk Illustreret Børneblad. The article pays attention to how the two figures are portrayed and examine which images of health and illness, parents and their children were presented to. The argument is that there is a close connection between the visual idea of the invalid girl and the healthy boy and the popular medical literature in the period, and that the idea of the invalid girl was being communicated not only in the paintings of the period but also as reproductions e.g. in children’s periodicals and thereby reached a larger audience.

ABSTRACTObjectives: to identify the scientific production about palliative care in online periodicals related to the health field during 2002 and 2009. Metodology: this is a documental investigation executed in the databases Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information - LILACS, Scientific Eletronic Library Online – SciELO, Information System of the Library of the World Health Organization - WHOLIS and The Library of the Pan American Health Organization - PAHO; 27 articles were part of the sample. To achieve the proposed objectives, chose the technique of thematic content analysis, following the steps of pre-analysis, classification and categorization, with its sub-categories, analysis and interpretation of data. Results: the research revealed that 2007 presented the highest production, with eight (29%) articles. According to the emphasis given by the authors, the themes concerning ethics and bioethics, emotional, psychological, spiritual and technical care came up. Conclusion: it is evident that this different kind of treatment has been calling researcher’s attention, with an increasing number of studies focusing on this theme. This provides an outstanding outlook for the insertion of palliative care in health assistance centers and in the academic formation of professionals from different areas. Metodologia: trata-se de uma pesquisa documental realizada nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde – LILACS, Scientific Eletronic Library Online – SciELO, Sistema de Informação da Biblioteca da Organização Mundial da Saúde - WHOLIS e Acervo da Biblioteca da Organização Pan-americana da Saúde – PAHO; 27 artigos fizeram parte da amostra. Para alcançar os objetivos propostos, elegeu-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo temática, seguindo as etapas de pré-análise, da classificação e da categorização, com respectivas sub-categorias, análise e interpretação dos dados. Resultados: a pesquisa revelou que o maior ano de produção foi 2007, com oito (29%) artigos. De acordo com os enfoques dados pelos autores, os temas pesquisados foram ética e bioética, cuidados emocionais, psicológicos espirituais e técnicos. Conclusão: evidencia-se que esse modo diferenciado de tratar vem merecendo atenção por parte de pesquisadores, com um número crescente de estudos sobre a temática, o que sugere boas perspectivas para a inserção dos cuidados paliativos em redes assistenciais de saúde e na formação acadêmica de diversos profissionais. Para alcanzar los objetivos propuestos, eligió la técnica de análisis de contenido temático, siguiendo los pasos de pre-análisis, clasificación y categorización, con sus sub-categorías, análisis e interpretación de datos. Resultados: la investigación reveló que el año más alto de producción fue de 2007, con ocho (29%) artículos. De acuerdo con los enfoques dado por los autores, los temas estudiados fueron la ética y la bioética, la atención emocionales, psicológicos y espirituales y técnicos. Conclusión: es evidente que esta manera distinta de abordar está siendo estudiada por los investigadores, con un número creciente de busqueda sobre el tema, lo que sugiere buenas perspectivas para la integración de las redes de cuidados paliativos en la salud y entrenamiento de profesionales de diferentes áreas. During the nineteenth century socio-political and economic transformations, as well as scientific discoveries, changed views on health and its value. Also,the concept of public health, which was no longer concentrated on the individual but on a group of people, was included in the sphere of interest of thebroader strata of society in the Central and Eastern Europe. The hygienic movement occupied an important modernizing segment in a wide range ofsocial movement and had an influence on changes in urban space during the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. Cleanliness and health became signsof modern city and civilization.More noticeable public interest to hygienic ideas in Lviv emerged in the late nineteenth-early twentieth century. One of the manifestations of this was the emergence of hygienic periodicals that focused on issues of public health issues, and especially hygiene, covered almost all areas of everyday life – hygieneof clothing, nutrition, school an urban hygiene etc. At the first time, such journal was published in Lviv during 1872. Four periodicals dedicated to hygiene were published in the city in the period between 1902 and 1914. The publishing of all these periodicals was a non-profit enterprise, and editors were constantly looking for financial resources to ensure their existence.In the first place, the initiative of publishing belonged to Ukrainian and Polish doctors. Lviv hygienic periodicals were published in Polish and Ukrainian and were addressed to the respective national communities. They discussed the same issues, spread the same ideas, but focused mostly on Polish or Ukrainian readers, reflected the socio-political ideas of that time and integrated the concept of health into the competitive ideas of national development.

Environmental and/or work risk factors, lack of basic knowledge related to voice, its incorrect use, and a defective vocal model can lead teachers to develop occupational dysphonia. This study aimed to analyze studies focusing on occupational vocal disorders through a literature review. Articles published over a period of 11 years in periodicals indexed in the ScieLO library were searched according to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Twenty articles related to teachers' vocal occupational disorders were found. We argue that intense vocal use should not harm professionals; the voice has to be pleasant to the speaker and correctly produced. The conclusion is that there is a scarcity of articles available at the studied library relating to teachers' voice disorders. Further studies need to be developed and disseminated so as to increase knowledge in the subject.

This study aimed to identify nursing journals edited in Brazil indexed in the main bibliographic databases in the areas of health and nursing. It also aimed to classify the production of nursing graduate programs in 2007 according to the QUALIS/CAPES criteria used to classify scientific periodicals that disseminate the intellectual production of graduate programs in Brazil. This exploratory study used data from reports and documents available from CAPES to map scientific production and from searching the main international and national indexing databases. The findings from this research can help students, professors and coordinators of graduate programs in several ways: to understand the criteria of classifying periodicals; to be aware of the current production of graduate programs in the area of nursing; and to provide information that authors can use to select periodicals in which to publish their articles.
