Streszczenie:
The absorption spectrum of the fundamental band of hydrogen deuteride (λ ≈ 2.7 μm) has been studied in pure HD and in mixtures with krypton at moderate densities (1–45 amagat) and room temperature, using a high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The effects that arise from interference between the allowed dipole transition moments of free HD and the dipoles induced during collisions were studied. For HD–HD collisions, the eight transitions from P1(3) to R1(4) were analyzed to determine line positions, intensities, shift and broadening coefficients, and the phase shift parameters that govern the interference effects. Thus the interference phenomenon was studied over a wider range of initial- and final-J values than previously possible, and the systematic dependence of the phase shifts on transition was determined. For HD–Kr collisions, the R1(0) and R1(1) transitions were examined in detail. The spectrum in the region of R1(1) exhibited a realtively broad underlying "plateau" feature that was shown to be due to the presence of impurity CF4 molecules in the Kr sample.

Streszczenie:
Abstract We present the visual orbits of four spectroscopic binary stars, HD 61859, HD 89822, HD 109510, and HD 191692, using long baseline interferometry with the CHARA Array. We also obtained new radial velocities from echelle spectra using the APO 3.5 m, CTIO 1.5 m, and Fairborn Observatory 2.0 m telescopes. By combining the astrometric and spectroscopic observations, we solve for the full, three-dimensional orbits and determine the stellar masses to 1%–12% uncertainty and distances to 0.4%–6% uncertainty. We then estimate the effective temperature and radius of each component star through Doppler tomography and spectral energy distribution analyses. We found masses of 1.4–3.5 M ⊙, radii of 1.5–4.7 R ⊙, and temperatures of 6400–10,300 K. We then compare the observed stellar parameters to the predictions of the stellar evolution models, but found that only one of our systems fits well with the evolutionary models.

Streszczenie:
Context. The spectra of unevolved metal-poor halo stars uniquely reflect the elemental abundances incorporated during the earliest Galactic epoch. Their heavy-element content is well understood as the products of neutron capture on iron-peak elements. However, for the lightest trans-iron elements with atomic number 30 < Z < 52, they show striking abundance patterns that defy model predictions. Understanding their sources may illuminate the diverse halo, thick disk, or extragalactic origins of metal-poor stars. Aims. The primary goal is the derivation of halo dwarf abundances and their uncertainties for six trans-iron elements from UV spectra, plus optical abundances for four additional trans-Fe elements and two well-understood heavier elements. Methods. For five metal-poor dwarfs, we analyzed high-resolution UV spectra from the Hubble Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph, supplemented by archival optical echelle spectra. Two independent analyses adopted different programs, models, and line lists, clarifying systematic errors. Results. The results from the separate UV analyses are in good agreement. The largest source of discrepancy is the placement of the UV continuum. Once rectified, the separate results agree to 0.2 dex for moderately unblended, moderately strong lines. Similar agreement is found with previous works, except where new data and line selection become important, notably our exclusion of trans-Fe lines blended by newly identifed Fe I lines. Conclusions. Improved line lists lead to low As/Ge ratios that no longer require an early arsenic enhancement. All five stars exhibit a high Mo/Ge abundance ratio, independent of Mo/Fe. The trans-Fe elements show an odd-even effect: an odd-Z element abundance is depressed relative to those of adjacent even-Z elements. Its suggested metallicity dependence is supported by previous studies of Sr-Y-Zr. Some theoretical yields show a metallicity-dependent odd-even effect, but none have predicted a constant Mo/Ge abundance ratio. Our work thus highlights the complexity of predicting the production of light trans-Fe elements in metal-poor stars.

Streszczenie:
Aims. The purpose of this paper is to detect and investigate the nature of long-term radial velocity (RV) variations of K-type giants and to confirm planetary companions around the stars. Methods. We have conducted two planet search programs by precise RV measurement using the 1.8 m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) and the 1.88 m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). The BOAO program searches for planets around 55 early K giants. The OAO program is looking for 190 G–K type giants. Results. In this paper, we report the detection of long-period RV variations of three K giant stars, HD 40956, HD 111591, and HD 113996. We investigated the cause of the observed RV variations and conclude the substellar companions are most likely the cause of the RV variations. The orbital analyses yield P = 578.6 ± 3.3 d, m sin i = 2.7 ± 0.6 MJ, a = 1.4 ± 0.1 AU for HD 40956; P = 1056.4 ± 14.3 d, m sin i = 4.4 ± 0.4 MJ, a = 2.5 ± 0.1 AU for HD 111591; P = 610.2 ± 3.8 d, m sin i = 6.3 ± 1.0 MJ, a = 1.6 ± 0.1 AU for HD 113996.
