Streszczenie:
In order to solve the problem that the three-phase current of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) contains the 11th and 13th current harmonics, a multiple synchronous rotating frame transformation (MSRFT)-based current harmonic suppression method is established. Firstly, the influencing factors of current harmonics in IPMSM vector control are analyzed, and the influence mechanism of the inverter’s dead-time effect and the permanent magnet flux linkage harmonics on the current harmonics is described. Secondly, a simple current harmonic extraction method is proposed by optimizing the traditional current harmonic extraction method based on MSRFTs. The proposed method achieves the accurate extraction of the current harmonic components. Thirdly, a harmonic voltage generation method is established and is combined with the proposed current harmonic extraction method to form a current harmonic suppression strategy. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified via MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experiments. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current harmonic extraction method can extract the current harmonic components accurately, and the proposed current harmonic suppression strategy can suppress the 11th and 13th current harmonics effectively.

When the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is running, there are abundant harmonics in the stator current. In order to achieve the suppression of current harmonics, the current harmonic extraction method and current harmonic controller are studied in this paper. Firstly, a simple and accurate method for extracting current harmonics is proposed by means of multiple synchronous rotating frame transformation (MSRFT). Secondly, an improved deadbeat predictive control (IDPC) based current harmonic controller is designed after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of traditional current harmonic controllers. Thirdly, IDPC-based current harmonic suppression strategy is proposed by combining the proposed current harmonic extraction method and the proposed current harmonic controller. The proposed strategy can still effectively achieve current harmonic suppression when the motor runs at low speed, medium speed and high speed and the controller parameters are mismatched with the motor parameters. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy are verified by simulation and experiments.

With the further development of harmonic pollution in the power system, scientists have carried out research on harmonics. Among them, harmonic detection is the first step in harmonic research. In this paper, a harmonic detection method based on an observer is proposed. This method first uses the cascaded Second-Order Generalized Integration (SOGI) algorithm, which can filter the Direct Current (DC) component of the input signal to extract the fundamental frequency, and then uses a time-varying observer to extract the harmonics. This can be used to extract harmonics from a distorted online grid signal. The effectiveness of the proposed method was evaluated on the Speedgoat Rapid Control Prototype (RCP) platform. The results show that it can complete the convergence within 0.05 s, and the standard deviation after stability will not exceed 1%.

Harmonic estimation is essential for mitigating or suppressing harmonic distortions in power systems. The most important idea is that spectrum analysis, waveform estimation, harmonic source classification, source location, the determination of harmonic source contributions, data clustering, and filter-based harmonic elimination capacity are also considered. The feature extraction method is a fundamental component of the optimization that improves the effectiveness of the Harmonic Mitigation method. In this study, techniques to extract fundamental frequencies and harmonics in the frequency domain, the time domain, and the spatial domain include 67 literature reviews and an overall assessment. The combinations of signal processing with artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are also reviewed and evaluated in this study. The benefit of the feature extraction methods is that the analysis extracts the powerful basic information of the feedback signals from the sensors with the most redundancy, ensuring the highest efficiency for the next sampling process of algorithms. This study provides an overview of the fundamental frequency and harmonic extraction methods of recent years, an analysis, and a presentation of their advantages and limitations.

Streszczenie:
Harmonic interference is a major hazard in the current power system that affects power quality. How to extract harmonics quickly and accurately is the premise to ensure the sustainable operation of power system, which is particularly important in the field of new energy power generation. In this paper, a harmonic extraction method based on a time-varying observer is proposed. Firstly, a frequency estimation algorithm is used to estimate the power grid current frequency, which can estimate the frequency in real time. Then, applying the zero-crossing detection method to convert the frequency into a phase variable. Finally, using the phase variable and integral current signal as input, a observer is modeled to extract each order harmonic component. The proposed method is evaluated on a FGPA test platform, which shows that the method can extract the harmonic components of the grid current and converge within 80 ms even in the presence of grid distortions. In the verification case, the relative errors of the 1st, 5th, 7th and 11th harmonics are 0.005%, −0.003%, 0.251% and 0.620%, respectively, which are sufficiently small.

The current signal harmonic detection method(s) cannot reduce the errors in the analysis and extraction of mixed harmonics in the power grid. This paper designs a harmonic detection method based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) using Bartlett–Hann window function. It improves the detection accuracy of the existing methods in the low frequency steady-state part. In addition, it also separates the steady harmonics from the attenuation harmonics of the high frequency part. Simulation results show that the proposed harmonic detection method improves the detection accuracy of the steady-state part by 1.5175% compared to the existing method. The average value of low frequency steady-state amplitude detection of the proposed method is about 95.3375%. At the same time, the individual harmonic components of the signal are accurately detected and recovered in the high frequency part, and separation of the steady-state harmonics and the attenuated harmonics is achieved. This method is beneficial to improve the ability of harmonic analysis in the power grid.

Streszczenie:
The existence of harmonics will cause the quality of power supply in a power system to decline and will affect the normal use of the power system. Therefore, it is important to suppress harmonics in the power system, and the first step of harmonic suppression is harmonic detection. To address this phenomenon, a fast harmonic detection method is proposed in this paper. It is based on the input observer theory to construct a state space model based on the original signal and harmonic components and estimate the state variables so as to achieve harmonic extraction. The characteristic roots are used to prove the convergence of the observer. In addition, the Second-Order Generalized Integration (SOGI) frequency estimation method is chosen to cascade with it so that harmonic detection can be accomplished with unknown frequencies. The simulation results prove that the proposed method can quickly converge and accurately extract each harmonic in the case of fluctuations in the fundamental amplitude, fundamental frequency and phase of the input signal, and the whole process can be completed in 0.02 s. The possible effects of white noise on harmonic extraction are also simulated, and the results prove that the accuracy of harmonic extraction can still be guaranteed in the presence of white noise. By using the Speedgoat real-time target machine built Rapid Control Prototype (RCP) as a testbed, experiments with similar simulation conditions were performed. The results show that the method has fast and accurate harmonic detection performance.

Streszczenie:
Diffusion MRI (dMRI) measurements allow us to infer the microstructural properties of white matter and to reconstruct fiber pathways in-vivo. High angular diffusion imaging (HARDI) allows for the creation of more and more complex local models connecting the microstructure to the measured signal. One of the challenges is the derivation of meaningful metrics describing the underlying structure from the local models. The aim hereby is to increase the specificity of the widely used metric fractional anisotropy (FA) by using the additional information contained within the HARDI data. A local model which is connected directly to the underlying microstructure through the model of a single fiber population is spherical deconvolution. It produces a fiber orientation density function (fODF), which can often be interpreted as superposition of multiple peaks, each associated to one relatively coherent fiber population (bundle). Parameterizing these peaks one is able to disentangle and characterize these bundles. In this work, the fODF peaks are approximated by Bingham distributions, capturing first and second order statistics of the fiber orientations, from which metrics for the parametric quantification of fiber bundles are derived. Meaningful relationships between these measures and the underlying microstructural properties are proposed. The focus lies on metrics derived directly from properties of the Bingham distribution, such as peak length, peak direction, peak spread, integral over the peak, as well as a metric derived from the comparison of the largest peaks, which probes the complexity of the underlying microstructure. These metrics are compared to the conventionally used fractional anisotropy (FA) and it is shown how they may help to increase the specificity of the characterization of microstructural properties. Visualization of the micro-structural arrangement is another application of dMRI. This is done by using tractography to propagate the fiber layout, extracted from the local model, in each voxel. In practice most tractography algorithms use little of the additional information gained from HARDI based local models aside from the reconstructed fiber bundle directions. In this work an approach to tractography based on the Bingham parameterization of the fODF is introduced. For each of the fiber populations present in a voxel the diffusion signal and tensor are computed. Then tensor deflection tractography is performed. This allows incorporating the complete bundle information, performing local interpolation as well as using multiple directions per voxel for generating tracts. Another aspect of this work is the investigation of the spherical harmonic representation which is used most commonly for the fODF by means of the parameters derived from the Bingham distribution fit. Here a strong connection between the approximation errors in the spherical representation of the Dirac delta function and the distribution of crossing angles recovered from the fODF was discovered. The final aspect of this work is the application of the metrics derived from the Bingham fit to a number of fetal datasets for quantifying the brain’s development. This is done by introducing the Gini-coefficient as a metric describing the brain’s age.

The thesis first studies the relation between the rotor slot harmonics (RSHs) and the instan-taneous rotor speed. To directly track the RSH, the requirements of the system are fully ad-dressed.Second, the thesis presents a sensorless scheme based on phase-locked loop (PLL): The centre bandwidth is tuned on-line on the basis of the reference values of the supply and slip frequencies provided to the PWM converter, the PLL is tuned to track the machine rotor slot-ting harmonic without the need of any high frequency signal injection, neither rotating nor pulsating. This speed estimation scheme, which is suitable for the scalar controller, had been integrated with the scalar drive, leading to a simple, computationally not demanding, low cost sensorless IM drives. The experiment results show that the system is able to track the machine speed in a very wide speed range. Finally, an improved sensorless scheme based on minor component analysis (MCA) neu-rons is described. According to the Pisarenko’s theory, it has been verified that the MC which lies in the noise subspace is orthogonal to the signal subspace, thus, the signal frequencies contained in the input can be computed from a polynomial formed by the MC. Conventional-ly, this will require the bulky eigen-decomposition, nevertheless, the neural method proposed in this thesis can retrieve the MC recursively with less computation and improved error per-formance (the solution is of total least square meaning). Moreover, the speed estimator is ap-plied to the scalar drive with experimental verification, the overall system is well behaved, and the MCA method enhanced by neural networks has provided a good potential in the ap-plication of harmonics retrieve

Series Active Filters (SAF) are designed for harmonic isolation and load voltage regulation of single-phase and three-phase voltage harmonic source type nonlinear loads. The novel Absolute Value Method (AVM) for load voltage harmonic extraction is proposed and applied in the control algorithm of SAF. The SAF compensated systems are represented by simplified linear models such that SAF controller gains can be easily determined. Harmonic isolation and load voltage regulation performances of 2.5 kW single-phase and 10 kW three-phase SAF compensated systems are evaluated by detailed simulations. Laboratory prototype single-phase and three-phase SAFs and loads are designed and manufactured. Digital signal processor based control platform is employed. Exclusive laboratory tests are conducted. Via laboratory experiments and simulations it is shown that AVM yields superior harmonic isolation and load voltage regulation performance compared to the conventional low/high pass filtering method. Theory, simulations, and experiments are well correlated and illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

The work of this thesis focuses on how to construct a smooth and periodic motion from motion capture data of a motion with a periodic structure, such as walk cycles. To identify periodic structures in the motion capture data we rely on previously developed methods from algebraic topology to project each frame of the motion capture data onto a circle. This gives us a description of how the periodic motion looks structurally. To construct a typical periodic motion from this projection we propose a harmonic regression model on the positional joint rotations. To prevent overfitting of the regression model we use the joints velocities and accelerations as constraints, which helps in maintaining a natural flow for the motion. Our method helps in preventing overfitting of the regression model, but the extracted motion can still suffer from temporal artefacts due to difficulties in performing the inverse mapping from structure to time. The method described is implemented as part of a plugin for Blender to provide a tool for performing periodic motion extraction in a 3D animation tool-kit.

This thesis investigates the detection and classification of small boats using a passive sonar system. Noise radiated from a small boats consists of broadband noise and harmonically related tones that correspond to parameters in the boats engine and propeller. A novel signal processing method for detection and discrimination of noise radiated from small boats has been developed. There are two main components to the algorithm. The first component detects the presence of small boats by the harmonic tonals radiated from the boat propeller and engine. The second component was designed to extract the a signature from passive sonar data. The Harmonic Extraction and Analysis Tool (HEAT) was designed to estimate the fundamental frequency of the harmonic tones, track the fundamental frequency using a Kalman filter, and automatically extract the amplitudes of the harmonic tonals to generate a harmonic signature for the boat. The algorithm is shown to accurately extract theses signatures, and results show that the signatures are unique enough that the same boat passing by the hydrophone multiple times can be recognized.

Streszczenie:
Music was the first mass-market industry to be completely restructured by digital technology, and today we can have access to thousands of tracks stored locally on our smartphone and millions of tracks through cloud-based music services. Given the vast quantity of music at our fingertips, we now require novel ways of describing, indexing, searching and interacting with musical content. In this thesis we focus on a technology that opens the door to a wide range of such applications: automatically estimating the pitch sequence of the melody directly from the audio signal of a polyphonic music recording, also referred to as melody extraction. Whilst identifying the pitch of the melody is something human listeners can do quite well, doing this automatically is highly challenging. We present a novel method for melody extraction based on the tracking and characterisation of the pitch contours that form the melodic line of a piece. We show how different contour characteristics can be exploited in combination with auditory streaming cues to identify the melody out of all the pitch content in a music recording using both heuristic and model-based approaches. The performance of our method is assessed in an international evaluation campaign where it is shown to obtain state-of-the-art results. In fact, it achieves the highest mean overall accuracy obtained by any algorithm that has participated in the campaign to date. We demonstrate the applicability of our method both for research and end-user applications by developing systems that exploit the extracted melody pitch sequence for similarity-based music retrieval (version identification and query-by-humming), genre classification, automatic transcription and computational music analysis. The thesis also provides a comprehensive comparative analysis and review of the current state-of-the-art in melody extraction and a first of its kind analysis of melody extraction evaluation methodology.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) for all drugs in Europe are described in the legally approved Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). An overview of all ADRs of the patients’ drug list can support healthcare staff to link patient symptoms to possible ADRs. We review the possibilities and challenges to extract ADR information from SmPCs and present the development of our semi-automated procedure for extraction of ADRs from the tabulated section of the SmPCs to create a database, named Bikt, which is regularly updated and used at point of care in Sweden. The existence of five major table formats for ADRs used in the SmPCs required the development of different parsing scripts. Manual checks for correctness for all content has to be performed. The quality of extraction was investigated for all SmPCs by measuring precision, recall and F1 scores (i.e. the weighted harmonic mean of precision and recall) and compared with other methods published. We conclude that it is possible to semi-automatically extract ADR information from SmPCs. However, clear technical and content guidelines and standards for ADR tables and terms from drug registration authorities would lead to improved extraction and usability of ADR information at point of care.

Abstract This chapter discusses musical similarity focusing on issues of representation and processing of patterns in symbolic music data. Various facets of musical similarity are explored that pertain to practical problems encountered when developing formal models for pattern identification and induction in musical corpora; the representation of musical data that strongly influences the search process is of particular interest. The chapter refers to research in the domain field of musical pattern processing, but pays special attention to corpus-based similarity analysis in the domain of harmony. Harmonic processing are presented in two case studies: the first illustrates strengths and weaknesses of different chord representation schemes, and the second shows the potential of statistical pattern extraction and learning from data in the development of a creative melodic harmonization assistant.

Streszczenie:
“Sustainable prosperity” denotes an economy that generates stable and equitable growth for a large and growing middle class. From the 1940s into the 1970s, the United States appeared to be on a trajectory of sustainable prosperity, especially for white-male members of the U.S. labor force. Since the 1980s, however, an increasing proportion of the U.S labor force has experienced unstable employment and inequitable income, while growing numbers of the business firms upon which they rely for employment have generated anemic productivity growth. Stable and equitable growth requires innovative enterprise. The essence of innovative enterprise is investment in productive capabilities that can generate higher-quality, lower-cost goods and services than those previously available. The innovative enterprise tends to be a business firm—a unit of strategic control that, by selling products, must make profits over time to survive. In a modern society, however, business firms are not alone in making investments in the productive capabilities required to generate innovative goods and services. Household units and government agencies also make investments in productive capabilities upon which business firms rely for their own investment activities. When they work in a harmonious fashion, these three types of organizations—household units, government agencies, and business firms—constitute “the investment triad.” The Biden administration’s Build Back Better agenda to restore sustainable prosperity in the United States focuses on investment in productive capabilities by two of the three types of organizations in the triad: government agencies, implementing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and household units, implementing the yet-to-be-passed American Families Act. Absent, however, is a policy agenda to encourage and enable investment in innovation by business firms. This gaping lacuna is particularly problematic because many of the largest industrial corporations in the United States place a far higher priority on distributing the contents of the corporate treasury to shareholders in the form of cash dividends and stock buybacks for the sake of higher stock yields than on investing in the productive capabilities of their workforces for the sake of innovation. Based on analyzes of the “financialization” of major U.S. business corporations, I argue that, unless Build Back Better includes an effective policy agenda to encourage and enable corporate investment in innovation, the Biden administration’s program for attaining stable and equitable growth will fail. Drawing on the experience of the U.S. economy over the past seven decades, I summarize how the United States moved toward stable and equitable growth from the late 1940s through the 1970s under a “retain-and-reinvest” resource-allocation regime at major U.S. business firms. Companies retained a substantial portion of their profits to reinvest in productive capabilities, including those of career employees. In contrast, since the early 1980s, under a “downsize-and-distribute” corporate resource-allocation regime, unstable employment, inequitable income, and sagging productivity have characterized the U.S. economy. In transition from retain-and-reinvest to downsize-and-distribute, many of the largest, most powerful corporations have adopted a “dominate-and-distribute” resource-allocation regime: Based on the innovative capabilities that they have previously developed, these companies dominate market segments of their industries but prioritize shareholders in corporate resource allocation. The practice of open-market share repurchases—aka stock buybacks—at major U.S. business corporations has been central to the dominate-and-distribute and downsize-and-distribute regimes. Since the mid-1980s, stock buybacks have become the prime mode for the legalized looting of the business corporation. I call this looting process “predatory value extraction” and contend that it is the fundamental cause of the increasing concentration of income among the richest household units and the erosion of middle-class employment opportunities for most other Americans. I conclude the paper by outlining a policy framework that could stop the looting of the business corporation and put in place social institutions that support sustainable prosperity. The agenda includes a ban on stock buybacks done as open-market repurchases, radical changes in incentives for senior corporate executives, representation of workers and taxpayers as directors on corporate boards, reform of the tax system to reward innovation and penalize financialization, and, guided by the investment-triad framework, government programs to support “collective and cumulative careers” of members of the U.S. labor force. Sustained investment in human capabilities by the investment triad, including business firms, would make it possible for an ever-increasing portion of the U.S. labor force to engage in the productive careers that underpin upward socioeconomic mobility, which would be manifested by a growing, robust, and hopeful American middle class.
