Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis aims to understand the represenntations related to the schooling of children with disabilities in the regular school environment in Haiti. Toachieve this, we conducted three studies. The first study is qualitative. It was carried out with 12 people, including 7 with disabilities and 5 association leaders. It addresses our first objective, which was to understand the social representations of disability in Haitian society. The results of the thematic analysis show that disability is construed through the prism of the irrational and the magical and refers to two main dimensions: the invisible or supernatural (action of loas, spell cast by a sorcerer...) and the divine (punishment, punishment inflicted by God for having committed a sin). These representations impact all spheres of society. In a second qualitative study with 5 mothers of disabled students enrolled in mainstream schools and 32 teachers (who may or may not have accommodated disabled students), we studied the impact of disability representations on the enrolment of disabled children in mainstream schools. The corpus was subjected to a lexical analysis (with the Alceste software), completed by a thematic analysis in order to specify the content of the representations. The results show that the representations associated with disability, which are dependent on cultural beliefs, are an obstacle to the schooling of these pupils. The teachers fear that this schooling will harm their professional identity. Further, they emphasize their lack of training. Students with disabilities are perceived as belonging to a specialized milieu. The third study is quanntitative. It looked at the attitudes of practicing and future teachers about the schooling of students in a regular setting. We also examined their sense of competence, cultural beliefs, and intention to act. 193 teachers participated in the study (111 practicing teachers and 82 pre-service teachers). Statistical analyses showed that both groups of teachers do not support mainstream schooling. Cultural beliefs negatively influence their attitudes. In addition to the cultural beliefs associated with disability, teachers did not feel competent to handle these students

Pełny tekst źródłaTelevision programs play a crucial role in Brazilian culture in that they create and convey specific norms, values and beliefs. This is particularly striking in the telenovelas – or soap operas -, which are produced in large numbers and broadcast on all television networks, especially TV Globo, the dominant media conglomerate.Telenovelas are the most important products in Brazil’s cultural industry. As such, they provide a comprehensive basis for the analysis of social representations related to significant objects or subjects in Brazilian society. This research is focused upon disability and its visual representations in a range of 30 telenovelas covering the period 1985-2013. Interestingly, postdictatorship Brazil saw the resurgence of social movements and the claiming of rights for persons with disabilities. The approach is based on film criticism, the analysis of aesthetic elements and discourses subsequently leading to anthropological perspectives. 40 characters are thus categorized taking into account gender, age and social class as well as the causes of disabilities and the specific locations where the disabled persons evolve in the telenovelas. These representations centre upon problematic issues as citizenship is often denied to them

Pełny tekst źródłaIn keeping with the official bibliography that the popular Haitian “zombification” images have never really been the object of an ethnographic exploration likely to give back with depth and meticulously detail, the subtle logics, the complexity, the scope and eventual significant, the author devotes himself completely to the retracing of the processes by which a zombie is created such that he had conceived in the Haiti, that which favours a regulated exploration of his different stages given back depending on inspired local chronic logical conceptions. Posing that the collective Haitian imagination of zombification would be made up of the refuge space of a collective, of the infra-conscience, incorporated slipping out from the social construction process of the memory, but composed of memorized prints inherited at the time of slavery, the author takes a census and questions the various places which within that space, would soundly testify this collective presentation

Pełny tekst źródłaThe multicultural issue of disability in New Caledonia became a central issue when, in 2009, the territory adopted a law in favour of people with disabilities, modelled on a Western model. By institutionalizing the care of the handicap, the public authorities weaken the kanak local solidarity. The study of the representations and social practices of disability in the kanak world makes it possible to understand the impact that this legislative framework can have on families and persons with disabilities. In order to legitimize our anthropological approach, we show that disability is a culturally based situation. The study of available data on disability in the oceanic and kanak world in particular reveals the diversity of practices according to economic and social contexts. Semi-structured interviews and participant observation, carried out in tribal and urban areas, show that the magico-religious approach occupies an important place in the interpretation of disability. In the kanak world, interpreting disability means, in the end, looking for what lies behind a biomedical explanation. In addition, while the kanak custom guarantees protection and solidarity of proximity towards people with disabilities, it encourages their social participation only through traditional activities. In 2009, the legislative framework in favour of people with disabilities introduces foreign concepts to kanak culture such as disability rate, loss of autonomy, life project. Moreover, as a factor of individualization, it weakens traditional solidarity based on family networks of dependence and protection. The Western system, by investing in the field of disability, leads Kanak to question the level of cultural differentiation they want to preserve in terms of caring for the most vulnerable
Minet, Alain. "Se construire parent d'enfant handicapé mental : significations imaginaires sociales et subjectives". Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. https://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-01913036.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe handicap challenges the parental project in its psychic and social dimensions: the continuity of oneself through his/her child is largely thwarted: the narcissistic benefits of the parenthood are not met, and the expected change of status of a social advancement reverses in social decline. The parent then starts a deep psychic and social reshuffling. A self- image and an identity are to be rebuilt, to try to mobilize a prominent social signification: a good parent responsible for his child. It is at the heart of the subject, its history, its identifications, the psychic, representative and emotional conflict, towards the non-desired object that the parent tries to build this good parent who takes care of his handicapped child. The analysis concerns, at first, associations which were created in the middle of the last century and which then merged in an important federation of associations managing establishments for the mentally handicapped, the UNAPEI. These associations were the melting pot of the construction of a collective identity. One sees, through a socio-historical analysis, the signification of the good parent loving his child will constitute an helpful and salutary image for the stripped parent. In a second time, the analysis of individual interviews highlights how the figure of a good social parent, loving and responsible which weaves the now dominant imaginary significance allows the parent, to find a way to rebuild itself in a possible conflict which does not assign him to a non-desired, a rejected or an impossible to invest in parenthood

Pełny tekst źródłaThe encounter with the Other isn’t “self-evident” (Jodelet, 2003). The social representations of disability is often tainted with a subjective stigmatizing vision (Gardou & Poizat, 2007 ; Goffman, 1975 ; Martinez, 2006) that creates a barrier to “coexistence”. When the SR are a barrier to “coexistence”, the School must go with the children to change their vision of difference. The law is committing School in an inclusive and transformative approach of SR of disability in order to go with the evolution of behaviors and practices. Hence, there’s a spot provided for uprising teaching dynamics to address a social issue of the XXIst century. The SR theory (Abric, 1994 ; Rateau, 1995) is used as a tool for thinking on a “educations to” approach to answer the law’s injunction. We will question the experience and the School’s information on disabilities as potential factors of transformation of the SR of said “ordinary” high school students. Based on 366 surveys, we will define a representative mapping of disability in the high school students group. Then, we will lead an experiment within two years with 31 high school students in the TPE class. The teaching approach experimented links a relational dimension to a more reflexive one. The experience tends to show that – with the teaching approach of “educations to” (Barthes & Alpes, 2012 ; Floro, 2013 ; Lange & Barroca-Paccard, 2017 ; Legardez & Simmoneaux 2011) an experience with disability is possible within the School, and that it’s a potential factor of positive transformation of SR. However, the barriers to “coexistence” are still in place

Pełny tekst źródłaIn a social and school context that seeks to be inclusive, many factors hinder a quality schooling process for children with disabilities in mainstream schools in Lebanon. Social representations and practices with regard to these children are the most remarkable signs. This thesis investigates the representations made by teachers of children with disabilities and their actualpedagogical practices, in order to understand the interactions between both parties as well as the teachers’ impact on the success of schooling. It also seeks to reflect the position of the Lebanese School on the diversity of children. This research adopts a comprehensive approach. It is based on the observation of educational and pedagogical practices as well as focus groups and comprehensive interviews with teachers. The use of these methodologies allows, on the one hand, the apprehension of the behavior of teachers and their pedagogical approaches; and on the other hand, the analysis of theirdiscourses and exploration of the social representations that unconsciously structure their ways of thinking and acting. The cross-sectional analysis of data thus highlights the brakes and levers for the implementation of the schooling process. The crossed interpretation of practices and representations finally makes it possible to understand what could lead teachers to modify their conceptions, to transform their usual practices and to consider the possibility developing new ones, more coherent with the inclusive aim

Pełny tekst źródłaMentally-handicapped adults, like any other human beings, develop amorous sentiments and therefore, are entitled to an emotional, intimate and sexual life.In institution (living space), brain-damaged adults are often dependent on social representations which built them, of those of caregivers who cared them, or still of those of caregivers-loving-accompanying and families which accompanying them. This research tried to target the central cores and peripheral elements of all these social representations, by means of the “free association” and the “emotional cards”, to estimate for all actors, the possible progress regarding acceptance, and consequently accompaniment of intimacy and sexuality about institutionalized mentally-handicapped adults.Brain-damaged adults (acquired handicap) and people with mental disabilities (congenital handicap) were the main protagonists of this research. The results show that according to the type of handicap (acquired or congenital), the caregivers’ posture is almost the same; that of the resident differ themselves slightly; as for that some caregivers-loving-accompanying and families are radically different: people with congenital disabilities do not create an intimate imagination and/or sexual from them, to their mentally-handicapped adult. What perspectives for the implementation of an education for the sexual health for these cerebral disabled people? What sort of companying for privacy and sexual life in institution?

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis deals with social representations of disability and mainly with school inclusion of children and teenagers living with disabilities in teachers’ practices. In fact, it is important to notice that this school inclusion is analysed from the social representations and the practices they bring about. Better, the analysis of school inclusion is made via the discourse and practices of teachers. The survey is conducted in twelve schools, ten of them located in Rome and the two others in Cagliari in the region of Sardinia. All these schools host students living with handicap and they seek to do their best to observe every student’s irreducible singularity. A resort to a triangulation of the techniques of data collection(questionnaire, interview guide, group focus and direct observation ) has been of great importance to us in grasping the true influence of social representations about the educational practices and the behaviours, individual as well as collective in the sense of school inclusion. This achieved empiric investigation establishes a link between the universe and the thought(social representations) in one hand, and the universe and the action(educational practices) on the other hand. The perception teachers make about handicap and school inclusion has engendered the concrete setting of pedagogic practices which take into account the specific educational needs of students living with disabilities. The welcome and way of dealing with disability at school result from a transformation both in the field of ideas and the organization of the pedagogic practice.Above the study of school inclusion via what teachers do and say, we have also tried to understand the existing links between the actors taking part in the realization of the project of inclusion. The discursive examination and the observations on the ground unveil that the collaboration between teachers , even between the different participants on the field of inclusion still requires a lot of doing. Despite the contradictions and ambivalences noticeable, inclusion is considered as a profit to all and the teachers interviewed are completely behind it

Pełny tekst źródłaWithin contemporary modernity, media stand as a fundamental source of knowledge for individuals. This research has been conducted to analyze disability related content in a corpus comprising children animated television series. Eight characters with a chronic limitation, i.e. not being able to walk or not being able to see, have been identified within eighty-four episodes from seven series coproduced in France during the period 1990-2010 (Les Pastagums, Atout 5, Foot2Rue, Les Minijusticiers, Titeuf, Bali, Milo). They have been observed through the successive situations they appear in, the problems they encounter and the proposed solutions. They are mainly boys using a wheelchair and involved in physical activities. Most of them are treated differently in comparison to other characters in the same social virtual worlds and are portrayed through heroized participation, either as a supercrip or as a superhero. They are both physically powerful and socially skilled. Such treatment contains the frozen remains of a normative injunction of performance as a legitimate and hegemonic modality with respect to participation, the construction of self and social relations
