This study is based upon a double acknowledgement : an irrefutable presence of the British artist Richard Hamilton's work in the history of art, and its reception in this specific context ; the characteristic lack of any profound approach to allow us to assess the whole of his painted work. Previously the paintings had "disappeared" in favour of a Pop theme. We refocus on the paintings for the analysis and consider the validity of such an approach. Richard Hamilton has been seen as a "painter of modern life" in the Baudelaireian sense. However does he really tend to represent the society in which he lives or is he not more concerned with the connexion between a painting and its particular period, how his work reflects on its epoch ? Painting "being today" characterizes the quest of this artist. What does he regard as significant for a certain moment ? How does the "reflexive" union of the work with its present occur ? We describe and analyse the development of "Hamilton's structure", its transformation as real "programme", its effects as well as the stakes involved, in a parallel move to the examination of information related to the epistemological context and the artistic circumstances of the period 1950-1990

This thesis puts forward the conjecture that for n > 3k with k > 2, the generalized Petersen graph, GP(n,k) is Hamilton-laceable if n is even and k is odd, and it is Hamilton-connected otherwise. We take the first step in the proof of this conjecture by proving the case n = 3k + 1 and k greater than or equal to 1. We do this mainly by means of an induction which takes us from GP(3k + 1, k) to GP(3(k + 2) + 1, k + 2). The induction takes the form of mapping a Hamilton path in the smaller graph piecewise to the larger graph an inserting subpaths we call rotors to obtain a Hamilton path in the larger graph.

Streszczenie:
Hamilton-Jacobi theory provides a powerful method for extracting the equations of motion out of some given systems in classical mechanics. On occasion it allows some systems to be solved by the method of separation of variables. If a system with n degrees of freedom has 2n - 1 constants of the motion that are polynomial in the momenta, then that system is called superintegrable. Such a system can usually be solved in multiple coordinate systems if the constants of the motion are quadratic in the momenta. All superintegrable two dimensional Hamiltonians of the form H = (p_x)sup2 + (p_y)sup2 + V(x,y), with constants that are quadratic in the momenta were classified by Kalnins et al [5], and the coordinate systems in which they separate were found. We discuss Hamilton-Jacobi theory and its development from a classical viewpoint, as well as superintegrability. We then proceed to use the theory to find equations of motion for some of the superintegrable Hamiltonians from Kalnins et al [5]. We also discuss some of the properties of the Poisson algebra of those systems, and examine the orbits.

In this thesis, we use computer methods to investigate Hamilton cycles and paths in several families of graphs where general results are incomplete, including Kneser graphs, cubic Cayley graphs and the middle two levels graph. We describe a novel heuristic which has proven useful in finding Hamilton cycles in these families and compare its performance to that of other algorithms and heuristics. We describe methods for handling very large graphs on personal computers. We also explore issues in reducing the possible number of generating sets for cubic Cayley graphs generated by three involutions.

The discovery of quartenions by the mathematician Willian Rowan Hamilton (1805-1865) allowed a new approach regards solving algebraic equations, providing a broad algebraic structure to seek solutions. As a generalization of the classical case (about the complexes), here we present a treatment of the general algebraic equation with quaternions coefficients. We found that the number of roots can be greater than the degree and often can be infinite. We give emphasis to the case of the quadratic equation, obtaining its solution formulas. We also dealt with obtaining a quaternary root of a quaternion and a real number.

The purpose of this manuscript is to explain Alexander Hamilton's idea that a national bank was essential for America's survival. Three key ingredients, clarified through the use of letters and documents, are used to understand the importance of Hamilton's objective: 1) Hamilton's relationship with George Washington, discussed in chapter one; 2) James Madison's and Thomas Jefferson's arguments against Hamilton's ideas, discussed in chapters two and three; and 3) Hamilton's proposal for the bank and his opinion in favor of its constitutionality, including the idea that the necessary and proper clause expands the authority of government, discussed in chapter four. The prosperity and stability America experienced after the national bank threw open its door is proof that Hamilton's initiatives were needed. While James Madison is considered the Father of the Constitution, Hamilton is most definitely it foremost interpreter.

This thesis is devoted to the study of qualitative properties of solutions of an evolution equation of Hamilton-Jacobi type with a p-Laplacian diffusion. It is mainly concerned with the study of the effect of the non-linear diffusion on the gradient blow-up phenomenon. The main issues we are studying are: local existence and uniqueness, regularity, spatial profile of gradient blow-up and localization of the singularities. We provide examples where the gradient blow-up set is reduced to a single point. In Chapter 4, a viscosity solution approachis used to extend the blowing-up solutions beyond the singularities and an ergodic problem is also analyzed in order to study their long time behavior. In the penultimate chapter, we address the question of boundedness of global solutions to the one-dimensional problem. In the last chapter we prove a local in space, gradient estimate and we use it to obtain a Liouville-type theorem

The present work discusses the classical electromagnetic theory in the presence of magnetic monopoles. We review the connection between such objects and the long standing problem of charge quantization and the main theoretical difficulties in formulating the classical dual electromagnetic theory in terms of an action principle. We show that a deeper understanding of the source of such difficulties leads naturally to the construction of a variational principle for a non-local lagrangean from which all the (local) dynamical equations for electric, magnetic charges and fields can be obtained.

Unlike the classical Black-Scholes equation, the Black-Scholes equations from models of illiquid markets are non-linear. In this case, it is dicult to guarantee the existence and uniqueness of classical solutions. We discuss the concept of viscosity solutions and its application in the setting by Frey and Polte (2011). Wilmott and Schönbucher (2000) presented an equilibrium model for illiquid markets.
This is a thesis about the english novelist and playwright, patrick hamilton (1904-1962). The first part deals with the revival of hamilton in the early 90s and tries to give an account of the "author's" and his "works" historical situation and mode of availability. I have therefore tried to take into consideration and describe the cultural-material strategy which repeats, or re-enunciates hamilton and determines a system of constraints which governs the whole of the author reader relationship; what does book-commodity aesthetics signify? how is hamilton literary gentrification being operated? who wrote which prefaces? what authorical source is reinvented and places "behind" the texts? in other words, how are those texts historically "worked" and what is the pre-constructed framework within which the couple re-production consumption operates? this synchronic approach is complemented by a diachronic one in which specialized commentaries on hamilton (whether critical or literary-historical) are surveyed in view of tracing and locating hamilton's place in the english literary landscape. Obviously, rather than add up an extra name to the already constituted register of twentieth century literary names, this approach posits the unknown novelist as a possible negative of a "naturalised" literary history and its critical grammar

Streszczenie:
By the penultimate decade of the nineteenth century, the Dukes of Hamilton, premier peers of Scotland, had amassed a superb collection of fine and decorative art. This outstanding collection was dispersed in two series of sales in 1882 and 1919, and the family’s principal seat, Hamilton Palace, ten miles south of Glasgow, was demolished in the 1920s and ′30s. Many of the most significant items are now in the great museums, galleries and libraries of the world or in important private collections. This study will begin by identifying the causes of the 12th Duke of Hamilton’s financial difficulties and the chain of events leading to the dispersal of the collection, with a comparative analysis on the backgrounds of the earlier enforced sales of Fonthill Abbey (1822), Wanstead House (1822), Strawberry Hill (1842), and Stowe (1848). It will continue with a thorough investigation of selected principal beneficiaries, what they acquired and why. These will include Christopher Beckett Denison; various members of the Rothschild family; William Dodge James; the 5th Earl of Rosebery; Sir Michael Shaw-Stewart; and the 5th Earl of Carysfort. A survey of the records of certain national museums and galleries will establish the involvement of the museum sector in the dispersal of the collection, with a review of these institutions’ acquisitions. Finally, this study will consider the extent to which North American collectors benefited from the sales through the international art trade between 1880 and 1930, culminating in an account of the purchase of the Hamilton Palace interiors by the New York dealers, French & Co., and their subsequent acquisition by the newspaper magnate and collector William Randolph Hearst. This research will add a new perspective to the understanding of the break-up of this renowned collection, and of the loss to Scotland’s material culture and heritage. It will contribute to current scholarship on nineteenth-century house sales and increase current knowledge of the socio-economic causes and effects of such events. The question of who benefited from the Hamilton Palace sales will be a new and original area of research within History of Collecting studies, contributing to a fuller appreciation of British collecting between 1880 and 1930 and of the international art trade and market from 1880 to the present day.

The diploma thesis summarizes the experimental method for the rearing of zebrafish Danio rerio (Hamilton, 1822) screed. The work of figuring out which of the methods of rearing fry in the transitional period of the ontogenetic development is best for the survival rate and growth of the standard length of the surveyed individuals. The test was carried out on two basic lines of zebrafish Wild Type and Casper. At the beginning of the test were created four groups divided by feeding mode. The control group was fed once a day with pellet feed GEMMA Micro 75 and one day from the 10th day after fertilization the fed with nauplii stages of brine shrimps Artemia salina (Linnaeus, 1758). The second group was fed only once a day with pellet feed GEMMA Micro 75. The last two groups were fed five times a day saltwater rotifer species Brachionus plicatilis (Müller, 1786), and only one of them and the other was still three times daily nourished with nauplii stages of brine shrimps. For each group of four representative have been created initially, thirty tanks of fish at the age of five days after fertilization. The results of this method have shown that the methods they use to feed the rotifers, did not have a statistically significant impact on the survival rate of individuals. In the growth of this method has proven to be statistically significant result in the group where the fed in combination with brine shrimps, where to achieve the average standard size of juvenile fish 16.02 +/- 0.80 mm for the Wild type and 17.39 +/- 0.81 mm for Casper, compared to the control group, that has been the standard length 11.63 +/- 0.64 mm for the Wild Type and 9.54 +/- 0.56 mm for Casper. This method has great potential and breeding is therefore necessary to further develop this method and to adapt it to individual zebrafish facilities.

The work in this dissertation is composed of two themes. 1. The ergodic problem for the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (H-J-B) equations. 2. The regularization effects for some classes of Hamilton-Jacobi equations. The ergodic problem concerns the long-time averaged behavior of the controlled deterministic on stochastic systems. We study here the deterministic system (even in infinite dimensional spaces) and the corresponding H-J-B equations using the viscosity solutions theory. We begin by the research in the infinite dimensional space by establishing the uniqueness and the existence results for H-J-B equations. Under a condition for the Hamilton known in finite dimensional case, the ergodicity of the system is shown. (chapter 2). Next, one motivates to obtain the necessary sufficient condition for the ergodic system, and for this purpose we come back to the study infinite dimensional space. Our response for this question is given by the qualitative the quantitative properties of the system. In chapter 3, we present the existence of the ergodic attraction for the necessary condition which implies the controllability of the system. In chapter4, the precise estimates for the controllability are given as a sufficient condition. The controllability also plays an important role in the regularization effects of the first -order Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We show in chapter 5 three types of regularizations and their mechanisms

We present the Hamilton-Jacobi equation as originally derived by Hamilton in 1834 and 1835 and its modern interpretation as determining a canonical transformation. We show that the method of characteristics for partial differential equations, applied to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, yields Hamilton's canonical equations and the action as the solution. Canonical perturbation theory is applied to the Sun-Earth-Jupiter system to calculate perturbations of the orbital elements. We also study tidal locking and find a damped harmonic oscillator equation for a moon that is almost locked. Finally, we present a modern (1980s), weaker notion of solutions to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, viscosity solutions. We reproduce proofs that this concept is consistent with the classical concept and that visocsity solutions are unique, for locally Lipschitzian Hamiltonians.

In the first part of the thesis we define an automorphism φn for each star graph Stn of degree n-1, which yields permutations of labels for the edges of Stn taken from the set of integers {1,..., [n/2c]}. By decomposing these permutations into permutation cycles, we are able to identify edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles that are automorphic images of a known two-labelled Hamilton cycle H1 2(n) in Stn. The search for edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles in star graphs is important for the design of interconnection network topologies in computer science. All our results improve on the known bounds for numbers of any kind of edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles in star graphs.

The velocity analysis is a fundamental process in reflexion seismic, where the stacking velocity as well the zero offset traveltime are sufficient for determining the geological model for media with flat layers. On the other hand the Hamilton formalism uses the same parameters (velocity and zero offset traveltime) for determining the characteristic function for that kind of model. For a three-dimensional heterogeneous geological model with arbitrarily curved surfaces, the characteristic function is defined by nine parameters. This thesis aims at determining the characteristic function through the analysis of parameters using times slices in traveltime function, both in the CMP and zero offset ensemble. This analysis is done by the observation the behavior of each parameters during the fitting between the calculated characteristic function and the traveltime function obtained from the data survey.

Because installation represents the favored medium of Ann Hamilton (born in 1956 in Lima, Ohio), the problematic of experience occupies a central place in her practice. The artist’s interest for the viewer’s attentive presence in the works corresponds to certain issues that the experience raises, at a time when the capacities of perception, memory, imagination and participation no longer seem to guarantee a common or better future. Inseparable from a culture whose pragmatist thinking is the main source, the work of Ann Hamilton shows, for nearly forty years, an ethical and philosophical concern to rehabilitate body knowledge, to improve listening and attention in a perspective allowing each one to be aware of his capacity to act and contribute - on the intimate scale of the simple gesture of the hand or the voice - to the change and the opening of a field of possibilities

In this thesis we propose some variational methods for the mathematical and numerical analysis of a class of HJ equations. Thanks to the metric character of these equations, the set of subsolution corresponds to the set of 1-Lipschitz functions with respect to the Finsler metric associated to the Hamiltonian. Equivalently, it corresponds to the set of functions whose gradient belongs to a Finsler ball. The solution we are looking for is the maximal one, which can be described via a Hopf-Lax formula, solves a maximization problem under gradient constraint. We derive the associated dual problem which involves the Finsler total variation of vector measures under a divergence constraint. We take advantage of this saddle-point structure to use the augmented Lagrangian method for the numerical approximation of HJ equation. This characterization of the HJ equation allows making the link with some optimal transport problems. This link with optimal transport leads us to generalize the Evans-Gangbo approach. In fact, we show that the maximal viscosity subsolution of the HJ equation can be recovered by taking p→ ∞ in a class of Finslerp-Laplace problems with boundary obstacles. In addition, this allows us to construct the optimal flow for the associated Beckmann problem. As an application, we use our variational approach for the Shape from Shading problem

Streszczenie:
In my thesis we have addressed the issue of the first order description of generic stationary axisymmetric black holes in supergravity. To this the end we extended the extend the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism from mechanical models, whose degrees of freedom depend on just one variable, to field theories where the degrees of freedom depend on two or more variables. This problem was addressed and developed in generality in field theory, but not much was known in the context of gravitational field theories. An important issue in this thesis was to apply such extended formalism to the study of black holes. We have worked with the so-called De Donder-Weyl-Hamilton-Jacobi (DWHJ) theory, which is the simplest extension of the classical Hamilton-Jacobi approach in mechanics. One important difference with respect to the case of classical mechanics consists in the replacement of the Hamilton principal function S, directly related to the fake-superpotential of static black holes, with a Hamilton principal 1-form, which is a covariant vector Si. The application of this formalism to the description of axisymmetric solutions black holes required working out the general form of the principal functions Sm associated with the corresponding effective 2D sigma-model in the DWHJ setting. We have also given a characterization of the general properties of such solutions with respect to the global symmetry group of the effective 2D sigma-model which describes them. This was done by introducing, aside from the Nöther charge matrix, a further characteristic constant matrix Qψ, in the Lie algebra of G(3), the global symmetry properties of affine solutions 2D model, associated with the rotational motion of the black hole.
