Innate immune response is the first line of host defense against pathogenic microorganisms, and its excessive or insufficient activation is detrimental to the organism. Many individual microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as crucial post-transcriptional regulators of immune homeostasis in Drosophila melanogaster. However, the synergistical regulation of miRNAs located within a cluster on the Imd-immune pathway remains obscured. In our study, a genetic screening with 52 transgenic UAS-miRNAs was performed to identify ten miRNAs or miRNA clusters, including the miR310~313 cluster, which may function on Imd-dependent immune responses. The miRNA RT-qPCR analysis showed that the expression of miR-310~313 cluster members exhibited an increase at 6–12 h post E. Coli infection. Furthermore, the overexpression of the miR-310~313 cluster impaired the Drosophila survival. And the overexpression of miR-310/311/312 reduced Dpt expression, an indication of Imd pathway induced by Gram-negative bacteria. Conversely, the knockdown of miR-310/311/312 led to increases in Dpt expression. The Luciferase reporter expression assays and RT-qPCR analysis confirmed that miR-310~313 cluster members directly co-targeted and inhibited Imd transcription. These findings reveal that the members of the miR-310~313 cluster synergistically inhibit Imd-dependent immune responses by co-targeting the Imd gene in Drosophila.

Hydrogen-bond (H-bond) energies in 310-helices of short alanine peptides were systematically examined by precise DFT calculations with the negative fragmentation approach (NFA), a modified method based on the molecular tailoring approach. The contribution of each H-bond was evaluated in detail from the 310-helical conformation of total energies (whole helical model, WH3-10 model), and the results were compared with the property of H-bond in α-helix from our previous study. The H-bond energies of the WH3-10 model exhibited tendencies different from those exhibited by the α-helix in that they depended on the helical position of the relevant H-bond pair. H-bond pairs adjacent to the terminal H-bond pairs were observed to be strongly destabilized. The analysis of electronic structures indicated that structural characteristics cause the destabilization of the H-bond in 310-helices. We also found that the longer the helix length, the more stable the H-bond in the terminal pairs of the WH3-10 model, suggesting the action of H-bond cooperativity.

The paper’s aim is the assessment of corrosion behaviour of a CrNx-coated 310 H stainless steel under simulated supercritical water conditions (550 °C and 25 MPa) for up to 2160 h. The CrNx coating was obtained by the thermionic vacuum arc (TVA) method. The oxides grown on this coating were characterized using metallographic and gravimetric analysis, SEM with EDS, and grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD). A diffusion mechanism drives oxidation kinetics because it follows a parabolic law. By XRD analysis, the presence of Cr2O3 and Fe3O4 on the surface of the autoclaved CrNx-coated 310 H samples were highlighted. Corrosion susceptibility assessment was performed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear potentiodynamic polarization. EIS impedance spectra show the presence of two capacitive semicircles in the Nyquist diagram, highlighting both the presence of the CrNx coating and the oxide film formed during autoclaving on the 310 H stainless steel. Very low corrosion rates, with values up to 11 nm × year−1, obtained in the case of autoclaved for 2160 h, CrNx-coated samples indicated that the oxides formed on these samples are protective and provide better corrosion resistance. The determination of micro hardness Vickers completed the above investigation.

The aim of this work was to study the corrosion behavior of a Fe-Cr-Ni alloy (310 H stainless steel) in water at a supercritical temperature of 550 °C and a pressure of 250 atm for up to 2160 h. At supercritical temperature, water is a highly aggressive environment, and the corrosion of structural materials used in a supercritical water-cooled nuclear reactor (SCWR) is a critical problem. Selecting proper candidate materials is one key issue for the development of SCWRs. After exposure to deaerated supercritical water, the oxides formed on the 310 H SS surface were characterized using a gravimetric analysis, a metallographic analysis, and electrochemical methods. Gravimetric analysis showed that, due to oxidation, all the tested samples gained weight, and oxidation of 310H stainless steel at 550 °C follows parabolic rate, indicating that it is driven by a diffusion process. The data obtained by microscopic metallography concord with those obtained by gravimetric analysis and show that the oxides layer has a growing tendency in time. At the same time, the results obtained by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements indicate the best corrosion resistance of Cr, and (Fe, Mn) Cr2O4 oxides developed on the samples surface after 2160 h of oxidation. Based on the results obtained, a strong correlation between gravimetric analysis, metallographic analysis, and electrochemical methods was found.

SUS 310 stainless steels were corroded at 600, 700 and 800°C for up to 30 h in 1 atm of N2/H2O/H2S-mixed gas. The formed scales consisted primarily of (Fe0.5Ni0.5)0.96S, FeNiS2, and FeCr2S4. They were fragile, porous, and susceptible to spallation. During corrosion, Fe, Ni, and Mn diffused outward, while sulfur and a lesser amount of oxygen diffused inward. The diffusion of Cr and Si was not conspicuous. The formation of sulfide scales and the presence of hydrogen and water vapor in the mixed gases made SUS 310 corrode fast.

In the work orientation distribution functions (ODF) were determined for wires drawn in pressure and roller dies from a high carbon steel wire rod with a diameter 5.5 mm to wires with a diameter 3.8 mm and 3.0 mm. For a comparison ODFs for wires drawn conventionally were also determined. The texture was measured on the cross sections of investigated wires prepared in a form of squares to eliminate the effect of the surface layer. In the first stage of a drawing with a total reduction of 54.3% it has been found that in wires drawn conventionally (KI), in pressure dies (HI) and in roller dies (RI) a strong <110> fibre-texture exist with a value of the ODF equal to about 3.2 for all tested wires. At an increase of the total reduction from 54.3% to 71.5% values of ODF were different for different methods of drawing. For wires with a diameter 3.0 mm drawn conventionally (KF) it was equal 4.25 and for wires drawn in pressure dies (HF) the ODF value was the highest and equal to 4.4. For wires drawn in roller dies the ODF value was the lowest and equal only to 2.6. It means that in spite of the increase of the total reduction roller die drawing results in a decrease of the sharpness of the fibre texture <110>. In conventional drawing and in pressure dies drawing an increase of the <110> texture has been noticed with the increase of the total reduction. In addition to a strong <110> texture component, specimens K and H also featured weak <311> and <310> components. In R specimens there were more of such additional components after the first stage of drawing i.e. <311>, <310>, <210>, <211> and after the second stage of drawing (total area reduction 71.5%) - <311>, <310>.

The structure of [001] tilt boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7–x (YBCO) thin films deposited on [001] tilt SrTiO3 (STO) bicrystal substrates has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These boundaries are (100)/(210), (310)/(510), (410)/(310), (510)/(210), (210)/(410), and (210)/(310), with corresponding misorientation angles of 26°, 29°, 32°, 37°, 40°, and 44°. It was found that the YBCO film boundaries were meandering along the relatively straight substrate boundaries. High-resolution lattice images indicated that the microscopic meandering of the film boundary essentially consisted of many straight segments of facets at the atomic scale. On the basis of the observed facets, three competing factors controlling the formation of facets are discussed. First, the boundary plane is defined by Miller indices (hk0) in both crystals with sufficiently small h, k (i.e., h, k ≤ 5) and sufficiently large effective interplanar spacing (i.e., deff > 0.06 nm). Second, the closure failure defined by the difference between the local misorientation from the design misorientation is small, i.e., less than 2°. Third, the deviation of a local facet plane is observed to be less than 30° from the design boundary plane. Higher values of deffs are observed to give tolerance to higher deviation angles.

The influence that trace concentrations of SiO2have on improving grain-boundary conduction via precursor scavenging using additional heat treatment at 1200 °C for 40 h before sintering was investigated. At a SiO2-impurity level (SIL) ≤160 ppm by weight, the grain-boundary resistivity (ρgb) decreased to 20% of its value, while no improvement in grain-boundary conduction was found at a SIL ≥ 310 ppm. The correlation between the resistance per unit grain-boundary area, rgb, and average grain size indicated that the inhomogeneous distribution of the siliceous phase in the sample with a SIL ≥ 310 ppm hampered the scavenging reaction.

Three hundred twenty-one quarter, 207 whole udder, 310 bulk tank, and 93 tank-lorry milk samples were examined for confirmation of the presence of inhibitor by Delvotest SP assay. Four hundred twenty-six Holstein cows of no drug treatment for at least 30 days from January 1998 to September 1999 were used. Reading time was 2.50, 2.75, and 3.00 h, and results of sampling were recorded by four types according to comparison with the color of the well containing the control milk sample. False-positive outcome was identified by Delvotest SP assay in quarter (13 of 321), whole udder (9 of 207), and bulk tank milk samples (4 of 310), but was not shown on tank-lorry milk samples (0 of 93) at the reading time of 2.50 h. All of the 26 false-positive samples were negative from the examination after heat treatment at 82°C for 5 min. But, two bulk tank milk samples that appeared to have positive results in LacTek and Charm II tests were positive from the test following heat treatment. Somatic cell counts (SCC) were related to the probability of a false-positive result. The more SCC increased, the more the occurrence of a false-positive result increased. In our investigations, 4 of 310 bulk tank milk samples at the reading time of 2.50 h produced false-positive results, and no false-positive results were apparent at a reading time of 2.75 h. Also, the occurrence of false-positive results in quarter and whole udder milk samples decreased when agar was cultured for 2.75 to 3.00 h. There were no false-positive results from tank-lorry milk samples. These results indicate that the Delvotest SP assay may provide a suitable means for the detection of drug residues in not only quarter and whole udder milk of cows but also in bulk tank and tank-lorry milk following reading times of 2.75 to 3.00 h.

Background: Currently, the hospital-based studies on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) have demonstrated that the incidence of H. pylori infection tends to decline in Indonesia. On the other hand, no population-based study has ever been conducted. Therefore, our study was performed to evaluate the true incidence of H. pylori found among the population.Method: This study was a surveillance using cross-sectional design. The samples used in our study were randomly selected from 1,645 samples including those from five municapalities of Special Capital Region of Jakarta in 2006. Immunochromatographic test (ICT) was utilized to establish the diagnosis of H. pylori infection. The test has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for Indonesian populationResults: The seroprevalence of H. pylori infection among 310 patients was 52.3% (162 out of 310 patients) with mean age of 43.48 + 10.45 years. There was no difference regarding seroprevalence in both groups of 40 year and 40 years of age (52.3% and 52.2%). The highest prevalence of H. pylori infection was found in West Jakarta (66.1%); while the lowest prevalence was found in South Jakarta (41.0%). The incidence of H.pylori infection between those who were alcoholic was equal to those who were not alcoholic (46.2% vs. 52.5%).Similar result was also found between smokers and non-smokers (53.8% vs. 51.8%).Conclusion: In this study, we found that H. pylori seroprevalence remains high in the population. Various seroprevalence of H.pylori infection were found among five municipalities in Jakarta.Keywords: Helicobacter pylori, Jakarta, seroprevalence

The dependence of the properties of elastic sensitive elements made of beryllium bronze on the modes of their heat treatment is studied. It is shown that the duration of aging significantly affects the value of nonlinearity of elastic characteristic, hysteresis, shrinkage of elements and mechanical properties of membrane material (hardness, elastic limit). The relations between submicroscopic structure and properties of elastic elements are established. The greatest nonlinearity of the elastic characteristic, hysteresis and shrinkage belong to elements subjected to short-term aging at 310–350 °С. With increasing duration of aging, the corresponding values of the above parameters decrease. For aging temperatures 310–320 °С, the nonlinearity of elasticity characteristics reaches the minimum values after 4–5 h of aging, and for 340 °С — after 3 h. At 350 °С minimum values of nonlinearity are reached after aging duration of 45–60 min. From the obtained data it follows that from the point of view of obtaining the minimum hysteresis and nonlinearity characteristics of aneroid sensing elements made of bronze of БрБНТ-1,9Мг (BrBNT-1.9Mg) grade, heat treatment of membranes should be carried out according to the regimes of 1 h at 350 °С or 3 h at 340 °С.

Hymenochaete carpatica has been found in 1994 in Czętochowa Upland, "Parkowre" nature reserve, in Wiercica river valley situated on calcareous area, 290-310 m above see level, on fissured bark of Acer pseudoplatanus. This contribution corresponds to the paper by Chlebicki (2003) who has recently discovered scveral localities of H. carpatica in Sudetes and Carpathians. Both papers present a set of sites of H. carpatica reported hitherto from Poland, and contribute to the knowledge on its distribution in Europe.

Multilayer transparent conducting zinc oxide films have been prepared on boro-silicate substrates by the commercially sol gel dip coating process. Each layer was fired at 550°C in a conventional furnace for 15 min. The final coatings were then tempered under a flux of forming gas ( N 2/ H 2) at 400°C for 2 h. The coatings were characterized by surface stylus profiling and optical spectroscopy (UV-NIR). Results show that (1) ZnO films with electrical resistivity of 6×10-4 Ω· cm , free carrier mobility of approximately 77 cm 2/ V · s and free carrier density of approximately 6.14×1019 cm -3 are obtained for multilayers 310 nm and (2) the transmittance is approximately 60.4% and the reflectance is nearly 34.7% are obtained at a wavelength of 800 nm when the thickness of the ZnO multilayers is 310 nm. The crystal structure and grain orientation of ZnO films were determined by X-ray diffraction. SEM investigations revealed that the surface morphology of growing ZnO films on boro-silicate substrate is dominated by the smooth surface with a fine microstructure.

The relationship of the osmotic pressure gradient between blood and brain, and the development of ischemic brain edema was studied. Focal cerebral ischemia was produced by left middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats. Brain osmolality was determined with a vapor pressure osmometer, brain water content by wet–dry weight, and tissue sodium and potassium contents by flame photometry. Permeability of the BBB was tested by Evans blue. Measurements were made from the ischemic cortex within 14 days of occlusion. Brain osmolality increased from 311 ± 2 to 329 ± 2 mOsm/kg by 6 h after occlusion. Serum osmolality did not change significantly. The osmotic gradient between blood and brain peaked at ∼26 mOsm/kg. Brain osmolality then decreased to 310 ± 2 mOsm/kg by 12 h after occlusion and remained at about that same level. Water content increased progressively within 1 day of occlusion, then gradually decreased by 14 days. Brain tissue sodium plus potassium content did not increase within 6 h of occlusion, and Evans blue extravasation was not seen within that time. These findings indicate that an osmotic pressure gradient contributes to the formation of edema only during the early stage of cerebral ischemia. Furthermore, the increase in brain osmolality is not related to tissue electrolyte change or BBB disruption to protein.

Aim of study: To assess the potential of using infrared ocular thermography (IROT) as a tool to predict beef quality at the slaughterhouse.Area of study: The study was carried out in the Salteras’s slaughterhouse (Seville, Spain).Material and methods: Ocular temperature images were captured from 175 lean young bulls prior to slaughter. Carcasses were classified into three groups according to weight: ˂250 kg, 250-310 kg and ˃310 kg. IROT was measured just before slaughter and pH was measured 24 h later. Colour parameters (CIELAB space) were evaluated 48 h post-slaughter. Water holding capacity was evaluated at seven days after slaughter.Main results: IROT mean values were higher in heavier bulls (p<0.05), probably due to these animals appeared to movilize a greater blood flow, thus increasing ocular temperature. Furthermore, IROT showed a statistically significant correlation with both pH from light carcasses (r=0.66; p<0.001), and mean Hue value from all carcass weights (r=-0.22; p<0.05). A quadratic regression analysis accounting carcass weight as a continuous variable, found medium to strong fit values for pH (R2=0.52; RMSE=0.032; p<0.01) and medium fit values for H* (R2=0.41; RMSE=3.793; p<0.001), changing their relation with IROT depending on carcass weight.Research highlights: IROT showed potential to become a useful tool to assess pH in light carcasses and to assess H* in all carcasses of young bulls prior to slaughter, regardless their weight. However, further studies would be recommended under more variable pre-slaughter stress conditions.

AbstractThe 127I-NQR of(HOCH2)3CNH3+ I- was determined in the range 77 ≤ T/K ≤ 310. At T = 310 K the NQR signal fades out (Tm = 463 K). The 127I spectrum ( T =77 K.): v1 =29.195 MHz, v2 = 14.597 MHz, η(121l)=0, e QΦzz h-1 (127I) = 97.315 MHz, is in agreement with the crystal structure. The 127I NQR spectrum of 1,3-diammonium-2,2-dimethylpropane diiodide, (H3NCH2C(CH3)2CH2NH3)2+ ·2I- , is a quartet within the whole temperature range investigated, and the lines correspond to two crystallographically independent iodines: Space group P21/c, Z = 4, a = 731.2(3) pm, b = 689.0(3) pm, c = 2255.1(8) pm, β = 104.90(1)°. At 7 = 7 7 K the 127I NQR quartet is (MHz): v1 = 34.145, v2 = 32.805, v3 = 22.113, v4 = 16.787; at 295 K (same order, MHz): 30.559, 29.729, 19.810, 15.651. There are two combinations of the NQR frequencies. Considering the coordination of I-, the hydrogen bonds N -H ··· I, eQΦzzQ h-1 and η, we choose for I(1) v1 and v3, for I(2) v2 and v4. At 77 K eQΦzzQ h-1 (I(1))= 118.86 MHz,η (127I(1)) = 0.498, eQΦzzQ h-1 (I(2)) = 109.75 MHz, η(127I(2)) = 0.135 follow for the two iodine atoms. Both, eQΦzzQ h-1 (I(1)) and e eΦzzQ h-1(I(2)) decrease smoothly with increasing T: η I(2)) increases with increasing T whereas η(127I(1)) is almost constant within 77 ≤ T /K ≤ 4 0 6 . The 79,81Br NQR spectrum of l,3-diamino-2,2-dimethylpropane dihydrobromide is also a quartet, showing two crystallographic inequivalent Br atoms in the unit cell. The frequencies are (T =273 K, MHz): v1 (79Br)= 14.303, v2 (79Br)= 12.884, (81Br)= 11.951, v2(81Br) = 10.781; space group C2/c, Z = 8 , a = 2136.4(6) pm, b = 854.6(3) pm, c = 1125.8(3) pm, β = 93.23(1)°. Data on N utilisation by sheep-fed diets containing foliages were analysed to develop prediction equations for N excretion in faeces (FN) and urine (UN), and to determine endogenous N excretion. Overall, 218 dietary treatments from forty-four publications were compiled in the database. This database was split into three subsets: without foliage in the diets (FL-0); foliage levels (FL) in between 0 and 310 g/kg (FL-L); FL in between 310 and 800 g/kg diets (FL-H) to study the effects of foliages on metabolic faecal N (MFN) and endogenous urinary N (EUN). Nitrogen intake (NI) as single independent factor was the best predictor of FN (R2 0·75), UN (R2 0·81) and total N excretion (R2 0·86). Addition of dietary N concentration and FL for FN (R2 0·82), dietary N concentration and foliage NI for UN (R2 0·85), and FL and foliage NI for total N excretion (R2 0·92) as supporting predictors to this relationship slightly increased R2 values. The monomolecular and exponential models slightly improved the prediction of N excretion with NI as a predictor compared with the linear model. The excretion of MFN was greater for FL-H compared with FL-0, but was similar between FL-0 and FL-L, and FL-L and FL-H. However, EUN decreased in FL-H compared with FL-0 and FL-L, but was similar between FL-0 and FL-L. In conclusion, using NI as the primary predictor produced an accurate prediction of N excretion. Inclusion of foliages in the diets may shift N excretion from urine to faeces and increase the excretion of MFN and EUN.

The synthesis and properties of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,4,5,8-tetraazaanthracene (THTAA) – a heterocycle involving both >N–H donating and =N– accepting moieties – have been reinvestigated. Unlike previously reported, THTAA is a thermally stable compound that can be re-sublimed at 300–310 °C without decomposition. Controlled introduction of substituents at the nitrogen atoms of THTAA led to variation of its electron donor/acceptor capability that allowed fine-tuning the absorption properties. The propensity of these compounds and a number of its derivatives to form infinite chains involving >N–H···N= and >N–H···Hal−···N+ atoms is demonstrated by X-ray structure analysis. The DFT level optimized and experimental geometry of THTAA and its derivatives show considerable loss of aromaticity within the quinoxaline moiety.

ABSTRACT Using a metaphase arrest technique, mitotic activity was quantified in the adrenal cortex over a 24-h period in 14-day-old male Sprague–Dawley rats before functional rhythmicity of the hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is established, and after its onset, in 6- to 7-week-old rats. At all times, proliferative activity was greater in the younger animals, as previously reported. A significant circadian rhythm was identified in both groups, but the timing of the peak differed, lying between 17.00 and 21.00 h at 14 days and 11.00 and 15.00 h at 6–7 weeks. Abstract Background H syndrome ([OMIM] 602782) is an autosomal recessive disorder with systemic manifestations and characteristic skin lesions, caused by mutations of the SLC29A3 gene. Short stature and diabetes mellitus are the major endocrine problems related to H syndrome, however, clear data from clinical follow-up of H syndrome patients is lacking in the literature. Case presentation Here, we present follow-up of a Turkish girl diagnosed with H syndrome at the age of 10 with a homozygous 310(c.933T>A, p.C310X) early stop codon mutation on exon 6 of the SLC29A3 gene. She had severe short stature non-responsive to growth hormone (GH) treatment and gluten-free diet despite low GH levels and celiac antibody positivity. She developed insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) symptoms 6 years after the initial diagnosis. Conclusions H syndrome patients can develop IDDM years after characteristic symptoms. Short stature in H syndrome patients may not respond to GH replacement or gluten-free diet alone.

The structure stability of natrolite heated at 310, 350, 400, and 500 °C for a time from 7.5 min to 8 192 h was studied by weight loss measurements, infrared spectroscopic investigation and evaluation of powder X-ray diffraction data. No substantial structure changes other than partial dehydration were observed. The dehydration process is only associated with the formation of structural hydroxide groups and with short-range changes in the crystal structure arrangement.

High hardness armor (HHA) steels, when subjected to high deformation rates, are prone to adiabatic shear bands formation. These heterogeneities, formed in a narrow zone, are the result of an intense plastic deformation in which the rate of heat dissipation is low. The generated shear bands can lead to a decrease in ballistic performance and impose to an armor a catastrophic failures. The appearance of these bands may be related to the microstructure or the deformation rate to which the material is subjected. Therefore, this work aims to analyze the influence of the microstructure of an HHA steel, tempered at 310, 425 and 610° C for 2 h, after high deformation rates, in the appearance of adiabatic shear bands. Specimens were dynamic tested in a split Hopkinson pressure bar. It was shown that tempering temperature at 310 ° C for 2h, which produced bainite and martensite with high hardness, was the most susceptible to the adiabatic shear bands appearance.

This study focuses on CO adsorption at tetrahexahedral Pt nanocrystals (THH Pt NCs) by using cyclic voltammetry and in situ FTIR spectroscopy. Since the electrochemically prepared THH Pt NCs in this study are enclosed by {730} facets which could be considered by a subfacet configuration of 2{210} + {310}, we have also studied CO adsorption on the interrelated Pt(310) and Pt(210) single crystal electrodes as a comparison. Cyclic voltammetry results demonstrated that CO adsorbs dominantly on the (100) sites of THH Pt NCs at low CO coverage (θCO ≤ 0.135), while on both (100) and (110) sites at higher CO coverage. On ordered Pt(310) and Pt(210), i.e. they were flame annealed and then cooled in H2 + Ar, CO adsorption also illustrates relative priority on (100) sites at low CO coverage; while at high CO coverage or on oxygen-disordered Pt(310) and Pt(210) when they were cooled in air after flame annealing, the adsorption of CO presents a weak preference on (100) sites of Pt(310) and even no preference at all on (100) sites of Pt(210). In situ FTIR spectroscopic studies illustrated that CO adsorption on THH Pt NCs yields anomalous infrared effects (AIREs), which are depicted by the Fano-like IR feature on a dense distribution (60 μm−2) and the enhancement of abnormal IR absorption on a sparse distribution (22 μm−2) of THH Pt NCs on glassy carbon substrate. Systematic investigation of CO coverage dependence of IR features revealed that, on THH Pt NCs, the IR band center (νCOL) of linearly bonded CO (COL) is rapidly shifted to higher wavenumbers along with the increase of CO coverage to 0.184, yielding a fast linear increase rate with a high slope (dνCOL/dθIRCO = 219 cm−1); when θIRCO > 0.184, the increase of νCOL with θCO slows down and deviates drastically from linearity. In contrast, the νCOL on the ordered Pt(310) electrode maintains a linear increase with θIRCO for the whole range of θIRCO variation, and gives a much smaller increase rate of slope 74.3 cm−1. The significant differences in CO adsorption behavior on THH Pt NCs and on interrelated Pt single crystal planes demonstrated clearly the unique properties of nanoparticles enclosed by high-index facets.

The effect of interstitial and substitutional impurities on grain boundary (GB) cohesion in the series of B2-TiMe alloys is studied from first principles using pseudopotential approach. It is shown that the TiMe Σ5(310) symmetrical tilt GB cohesion is reduced by the segregation of hydrogen while it is increased due to boron or carbon segregation. We analyze also the combined and accumulation effect of interstitial B (C) and H impurities on the change of the Griffith work.

Abstract The membrane distillation performance was studied for production of demineralized water from surface water (river). Hot water from cooling water system of municipal waste incinerator was considered as an energy source for membrane distillation. The integration of membrane installation with such cooling water system allows to re-use up to 18 kW per 1 m2 of the membranes. The studies were performed with the application of polypropylene capillary membranes Accurel PP S6/2. The membrane modules were supplied with the feed heated to a temperature of 310 K and 330 K. The permeate fl ux obtained for these temperatures was 2.8 and 9.7 L/m2 h, and the distillate conductivity was 6 and 4 S/cm, respectively. The water demineralisation process was carried out for 1200 h without module cleaning. The behaviour of the permeate fl ux and distillate conductivity indicate that used membranes maintained their non-wettability over tested period. The performed SEM-EDS examinations confi rmed, that the deposits did not fi ll the pores and were mainly formed on the membrane surface. The scaling intensity was defi nitely smaller for lower temperature (310 K) of the feed. The amorphous deposits containing beside Ca also substantial amounts of the Si were mainly formed under these conditions, whereas at higher feed temperature dominated CaCO3 scaling.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial efficiency of chitosans in oil-in-water emulsions. Model emulsions were prepared with 20% corn oil, 1.5% Tween 20, 1.5% Trypticase soy broth, 0.58% acetic acid, and chitosan polysaccharide or chitosan oligosaccharide in concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, and 0.7%. A control containing HCl was included to determine the role of acetic acid in the overall antibacterial activity. The pH of samples and controls was adjusted to 4.5. Emulsions were inoculated with Listeria monocytogenes (strains Scott A and 310) or Salmonella Typhimurium DT104 (strains 2486 and 2576) at a level of 107 CFU/ml. Inoculated emulsions were incubated at 10 and 25° C for 4 days and analyzed for bacterial count every 24 h. Both tested Salmonella strains were more susceptible to acetic acid than Listeria. However, L. monocytogenes was more affected by chitosan than either Salmonella strain. During the storage at 25° C, initial inoculum in the emulsions with 0.58% acetic acid and 0.1% chitosan polysaccharide was reduced to below the detection limits after 24, 48, 72, or 96 h for L. monocytogenes 310, Salmonella Typhimurium DT104 2576, Salmonella Typhimurium DT104 2486, or L. monocytogenes Scott A, respectively. Chitosan oligosaccharide was less effective against all tested bacteria and showed a concentration-dependent effect. The antimicrobial efficacy of chitosan was reduced at 10° C, and reduction of microbial loads was delayed for approximately 24 h compared with 25° C. Results suggest that addition of 0.1% chitosan polysaccharidewould be sufficient to ensure the microbial safety of oil-in-water emulsions regardless of storage temperature.

Acidocalcisomes are acidic vacuoles present in trypanosomatids that contain a considerable fraction of intracellular Ca2+ [Vercesi, Moreno and Docampo (1994) Biochem. J. 304, 227–233; Scott, Moreno and Docampo (1995) Biochem. J. 310, 789–794; Docampo, Scott, Vercesi and Moreno (1995) Biochem. J. 310, 1005–1012]. The data presented here indicate that Na+ stimulates Ca2+ release from the acidocalcisomes of digitonin-permeabilized Trypanosoma brucei procyclic trypomastigotes in a dose-dependent fashion, this effect being enhanced by increasing pH of the medium from 7.0 to 7.8. The hypothesis that this Na+ effect was mediated by alkalinization of the acidocalcisomes via a Na+/H+ antiporter was supported by experiments showing that Na+ promotes release of Acridine Orange previously accumulated in these vacuoles. This putative antiporter did not transport Li+ and was not sensitive to the amiloride analogue 5-(N-ethyl-N-isopropyl)amiloride. Addition of the Na+/H+ ionophore monensin to intact cells loaded with fura 2, in the nominal absence of extracellular Ca2+ to preclude Ca2+ entry, was followed by an increase in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which was more accentuated in the presence of extracellular Na+. An increase in intracellular pH (pHi) of BCECF-loaded cells was detected after addition of monensin in the presence of extracellular Na+, whereas a dramatic decrease in pHi was detected in its absence, thus indicating the presence of a significant amount of releasable protons in the acidic compartments. These results are consistent with the presence of a Na+/H+ antiporter in the acidocalcisomes that could be involved in the regulation of pHi and [Ca2+]i in these parasites.

Hydrogen enhanced decohesion is expected to play a major role in ferritic steels, especially at grain boundaries. Here, we address the effects of some common alloying elements C, V, Cr, and Mn on the H segregation behaviour and the decohesion mechanism at a Σ 5 ( 310 ) [ 001 ] 36.9 ∘ grain boundary in bcc Fe using spin polarized density functional theory calculations. We find that V, Cr, and Mn enhance grain boundary cohesion. Furthermore, all elements have an influence on the segregation energies of the interstitial elements as well as on these elements’ impact on grain boundary cohesion. V slightly promotes segregation of the cohesion enhancing element C. However, none of the elements increase the cohesion enhancing effect of C and reduce the detrimental effect of H on interfacial cohesion at the same time. At an interface which is co-segregated with C, H, and a substitutional element, C and H show only weak interaction, and the highest work of separation is obtained when the substitute is Mn.

AbstractThe paper presents test results concerning an effect of the heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of eutectic EN AC-AlSi12CuNiMg (EN AC-48000) alloy according to the EN 1706:2010 (tensile strength –Rm, hardness –HB10/1000/30) modified with strontium. Solution heat treatment and ageing treatment temperature ranges were selected on base of heating (melting) curves recorded with use of the ATD method. Temperatures of the solution heat treatment were 500, 520, and 535°C ±5°C, while the solution time ranged from 0.5 to 3 h (0.5; 1.5 and 3 h). Temperature of the solution heat treatment amounted to 180, 235 and 310°C, while the ageing time ranged from 2 to 8 h (2, 5 and 8 h).Obtained results have enabled determination of optimal parameters of the T6 heat treatment in aspect of improvement of tensile strengthRmand hardnessHBof the alloy, with reduced time of individual treatments and determination of mathematical relationships enabling prediction of these mechanical properties.

تم دراسة الأداء الحركي المائي لنموذج بمقياس 1: 8 من شبكة جر قاعي تقليدي في خزان ممر مائي. وهذا يمثل النموذج الأصلي لشبكة جر بقدرة موتور منخفضة تصل الى 33 حصان عند سرعة جر تصل الى 3 عقدة، والتي تعتبر شائعة الاستخدام في كوتابارو، إندونيسيا. فعند سرعة جر 3 عقدة (96 سم في الثانية للنموذج)، فان ارتفاعات الشبكة عند مسافات مختلفة بين أطراف الاجنحة تباينت بين 7 و9.2 سم، والمساحات البارزة لفتحة الشبكة من 6.35 × 210 الى 8.44 × 210 سم2، وحجم فلترة الماء من 32.04 × 310 الى 40.55 × 310 سم3، ومقاومة الشبكة الكلية من 11.07 × 210 الى 13.46 × 210 جم. وفي الدراسة الحالية، فان قيم النسبة H/a التي تم الحصول عليها كانت منخفضة (0.029 – 0.038) لأنه لم يكن هناك الجزء المربع في تركيب جسم الشبكة. وكان ارتفاع الشبكة 3.4% من محيط الشبكة وأصبحت اقل عند سرعات جر أعلى. ومن الممكن لسرعة مرور الماء وتوزيع الضغط حول الشبكة ان تغيير شكل عيون الشبكة من المعين الى متوازي الاضلاع. ومتوسط قيمة الأس 1.37 كانت أقل من القيمة المقترحة (2.0)، وعليه فإن شكل جسم الشبكة عند حالة الجر يجب أن يعاد تحديدها.

AbstractIn this study, physical properties of copper sulfide thin films deposited on glass substrates by spray pyrolysis method at different temperatures (260 °C, 285 °C and 310 °C) were investigated. The influence of annealing time on the physical properties of grown layers was also studied. According to FESEM images, the sizes of the compact copper sulfide grains were varied from about 100 nm to 60 nm. Hall effect and resistivity measurements confirmed that all samples had p-type conductivity. The XRD patterns showed that, together with the dominant digenite phase (Cu1.8S) in all samples, the copper-rich phases also appeared as a result of increasing substrate temperature. The optical UV-Vis spectra analysis showed that due to increasing the substrate temperature, the band gap of the layers was reduced from about 2.4 eV to 2.0 eV. We found that as a result of annealing at 400 °C for 1.5 h in Ar atmosphere, the sample which was initially grown at 310 °C with the highest copper content, totally transformed into the polycrystalline monoclinic chalcocite phase (Cu2S) with 3D nanoporous architecture.

This research aimed to synthesize carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCH) from different molecular weights of chitosan including low MW (L, 50–190 kDa), medium MW (M, 210–300 kDa) and high MW (H, 310–375 kDa) on the antioxidant and moisturizing properties. The L-CMCH, M-CMCH and H-CMCH improved the water solubility by about 96%, 90% and 89%, respectively when compared to native chitosan. Higher MW resulted in more viscous of CMCH. For antioxidant properties, IC50 values of DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity for L-CMCH were 1.70 and 1.37 mg/mL, respectively. The L-CMCH had higher antioxidant properties by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assay and FRAP. The moisturizing properties on pig skin using a Corneometer® showed that 0.5% H-CMCH significantly presented (p ≤ 0.05) greater moisturizing effect than that of untreated-skin, distilled water, propylene glycol and pure chitosan from three molecular weights.

The results of modeling from the first principles of interaction of nonmetallic impurities of interstitial (H, C) and substitutional (P, S) with grain boundaries in α-iron are presented. The modeling has been conducted within the framework of the density functional theory (DFT) by the full-potential linearized augmented plane waves (FP LAPW) method with consideration to the generalized gradient approximation (GGA'96) in the WIEN2k software package. Three grain boundaries of the slope Σ3 (111), Σ5 (210) and Σ5 (310) are studied. The supercells of the tilt grain boundaries using the coincidence site lattice model is constructed. The values of the energy characteristics of various grain boundaries with impurities are influenced by a number of factors, namely, the volume of the Voronoi polyhedron per impurity, magnetic moments, and the symmetry of the surrounding matrix. The results show that symmetric grain boundaries Σ3 (111) and Σ5 (310) are embrittled by phosphorus, hydrogen, and sulfur, while carbon strengthens interatomic bonds at the grain boundary, which coincides with the data available in the work. In the case of an asymmetric grain boundary Σ5 (210), phosphorus and hydrogen weaken bonds at the grain boundary, while sulfur strengthens them. This is primarily explained by the geometry of the surrounding matrix. The magnetic moments at the impurity atoms are very small and, in most cases, are antiparallel to the magnetic moments at the neighboring Fe atoms.

Energi thermal bisa dihasilkan melalui pembakaran bahan bakar berupa gas ataupun batubara. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, pada pembangkit tenaga listrik thermal konsumsi bahan bakar sangatlah mempengaruhi biaya produksi energi listrik, sehingga diperlukan suatu teknik pengoperasian pembangkit yang optimum. Salah satunya pada PT Indonesia Power UPJP Perak Grati yang merupakan perusahaan pembangkitan tenaga listrik yang dalam pengopeasiannya memerlukan cara dalam penghematan bahan bakar gas berdasarkan nilai heat rate (Kcal/kWh) khususnya dalam penghematan biaya pokok produksi. Pada penelitian ini Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) digunakan sebagai metode untuk penentuan daya optimal pada generator Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Gas (PLTG) Perak Grati. Self-assembled InAs/AlAs quantum dots embedded in a resonant tunneling diode device structure are grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Through the selective etching in a C 6 H 8 O 7 · H 2 O-K 3 C 6 H 5 O 7 · H 2 O-H 2 O 2 buffer solution, 310 nm GaAs capping layers are removed and the InAs/AlAs quantum dots are observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy. It is shown that as-fabricated quantum dots have a diameter of several tens of nanometers and a density of 1010 cm-2 order. The images taken by this means are comparable or slightly better than those of transmission electron microscopy. The undercut of the InAs/AlAs layer near the edges of mesas is detected and that verifies the reliability of the quantum dot images. The inhomogeneous oxidation of the upper AlAs barrier in H 2 O 2 is also observed. By comparing the morphologies of the mesa edge adjacent regions and the rest areas of the sample, it is concluded that the physicochemical reaction introduced in this letter is diffusion limited.

The effect exerted by the content of ZSM-22 zeolite (15–70 wt.%) in the support on physicochemical properties of Pt/ZSM-22-Al2O3 catalysts was investigated. The study revealed the dependence of the yield and composition of the hydrodeoxygenation products of sunflower oil obtained over these catalysts on temperature (310–340 °С), pressure (3–5 MPa) and mass flow rate (0.8–3 h–1). The possibility of complete hydrodeoxygenation of sunflower oil to obtain hydrocarbons C5+ containing up to 72 % of isoparaffins with the yield of 75–79 wt.% was demonstrated.

Hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) are ubiquitous in peptides and proteins and are central to the stabilization of their structures. Inter-residue H-bonds between non-adjacent backbone amide NH and C=O motifs lead to the well-known secondary structures of helices, turns and sheets, but it is recognized that other H-bonding modes may be significant, including the weak intra-residue H-bond (called a C5 H-bond) that implicates the NH and C=O motifs of the same amino acid residue. Peptide model compounds that adopt stable C5 H-bonds are not readily available and the so-called 2.05-helix, formed by successive C5 H-bonds, is an elusive secondary structure. Using a combination of theoretical chemistry and spectroscopic studies in both the gas phase and solution phase, we have demonstrated that derivatives of 3-amino-1-methylazetidine-3-carboxylic acid, Aatc(Me) can form sidechain–backbone N–H···N C6γ H-bonds that accompany—and thereby stabilize—C5 H-bonds. In the capped trimer of Aatc(Me), extended C5/C6γ motifs are sufficiently robust to challenge classical 310-helix formation in solution and the fully-extended 2.05-helix conformer has been characterized in the gas phase. Concurrent H-bonding support for successive C5 motifs is a new axiom for stabilizing the extended backbone secondary structure in short peptides.

Northeast China composes the main part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt. Traditionally, Northeast China has been considered a collage of several microcontinental blocks. However, the tectonic evolution of these blocks remains uncertain. Igneous rocks can be used to infer the magmatic histories of the blocks and thus help reconstruct their evolution. In this study, we present new zircon U–Pb and whole-rock geochemical data for Carboniferous igneous rocks from the Wunuer area, northern Great Xing’an Range, Northeast China, to constrain the Carboniferous amalgamation of the united Xing’an–Erguna and Songnen–Zhangguangcai Range massifs. On the basis of zircon U–Pb dating results, we identify two main stages of magmatism, i.e., early Carboniferous (332–329 Ma) and late Carboniferous (312–310 Ma). The early Carboniferous igneous rocks include diorites and granodiorites, with the former being classified as calc-alkaline to tholeiitic and the latter as tholeiitic. Both rock types are enriched in Th and U and depleted in Nb and Ti. The rocks display slightly fractionated rare earth element (REE) patterns, with an enrichment in light REEs and a depletion in heavy (H)REEs. The geochemical characteristics of the early Carboniferous rocks indicate that they formed in a subduction-related continental-arc setting. The late Carboniferous igneous rocks include monzogranites and syenogranites, both of which are classified as high-K calc-alkaline rocks and show enrichment in Th, U, and Rb and depletion in Nb and Ti. The rocks display strongly fractionated REE patterns, with an enrichment in light REEs and a depletion in HREEs. The geochemical characteristics of the late Carboniferous rocks indicate that they formed in a syn-collisional tectonic setting. Combining the new geochronological and geochemical results and inferred tectonic settings with regional magmatic data, we propose a new three-stage model to interpret the late Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the united Xing’an–Erguna and Songnen–Zhangguangcai Range massifs of Northeast China: (1) early Carboniferous (360–340 Ma) subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate beneath the united Xing’an–Erguna Massif and formation of the Wunuer oceanic basin in the Yakeshi area; (2) early to late Carboniferous (340–310 Ma) sustained subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate beneath the united Xing’an–Erguna Massif and initiation of subduction of the Wunuer oceanic basin; and (3) late Carboniferous–early Permian (310–275 Ma) syn-collisional to post-collisional tectonic transition between the united Xing’an–Erguna Massif and the Songnen–Zhangguangcai Range Massif.

The electroluminescence of UVB light-emitting diodes emitting at 310 nm before and after 1000 h of operation is studied in the temperature range from 20 to 340 K. Before operation, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) at 10 mA gradually increases with decreasing temperature from 0.8% at 340 K to 1.8% at 150 K and then levels off. This trend is attributed to a reduction of non-radiative recombination and finally the domination of radiative recombination at low temperatures. After 1000 h of operation, the EQE has dropped to 0.45% at 340 K with a maximum EQE of 1.4% at 80 K, followed by a drop for temperatures below 80 K. These findings suggest a stress-induced reduction of both the radiative recombination efficiency and the carrier injection efficiency.

The performance and syntrophic metabolism of the Anaerobic Membrane Bio-reactor (AnMBR) treating high-lipid kitchen waste slurry under different sludge cycle frequencies were investigated in this study. When the sludge cycle frequencies were 3.6 cycles/h, 9.0 cycles/h and 14.4 cycles/h, the obtained Organic Loading Rates (OLRs) were 10.3 kg-COD/m3d, 12.4 kg-COD/m3d and 18.1 kg-COD/m3d, while the corresponding biogas productions were 190 L/d, 310 L/d and 520 L/d. Moreover, with an increase of sludge cycle frequency, the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) removal efficiency improved from 86.2% to 90.4% and 96.3%. Additionally, the higher sludge cycle frequency did not break up the sludge flocs and further affect the syntrophic degradation of the toxic Long-Chain Fatty Acids (LCFAs). Conversely, the higher sludge cycle frequency enhanced LCFA degradation and decreased LCFA accumulation. Meanwhile, under higher sludge cycle frequencies, the abundance of syntrophic Methanobacterium, Syntrophomonas and Clostridium increased and favored the syntrophic metabolism of LCFAs.

Abstract The diagnostic utility of total creatine kinase activity (I), creatine kinase-2 isoenzyme activity (II), and II as a percentage of I, was examined by receiver-operating characteristic curve and likelihood ratio (LR) analyses in 310 persons admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (151 proven cases of myocardial infarction and 159 non-myocardial infarction controls), from whom blood was sampled at 6-h intervals for 48 h after the onset of chest pain. I was ineffective either as a "rule-in" or as a "rule-out" test within the first 6 h of the onset of chest pain; thereafter, it was an effective test. II was the most effective test during the entire 48-h period. III was more effective than I in the first 24-h period, but was less effective than I during the next 24-h period. The decision threshold for high test sensitivities varies with time over the entire 48-h period, but remains constant for high test specificities. It is essential to tabulate the LR(+) and LR(-) values for both test sensitivity and specificity at constant values to determine the utility of each test at each time interval for respectively ruling out or ruling in a diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

Invasive fungal disease often plays an important role in the morbidity and mortality of immunocompromised patients. The poor sensitivity of current fungal blood culture and histological practices has led to the development of highly sensitive and specific molecular techniques, such as the PCR. Sequence variability of the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region of fungi is potentially useful in rapid and accurate diagnosis of clinical fungal isolates. PCR with fungus-specific primers targeted toward conserved sequences of the 5.8S and 28S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) results in amplification of the species-specific ITS2 regions, which are variable in amplicon length. We have made use of the ABI PRISM 310 genetic analyzer and the ABI PRISM 310 GeneScan analysis software for the determination of variable size differences of the ITS2 region of clinically important fungi, including Candida and non-Candida yeasts,Aspergillus species, and a variety of dermatophytes. No cross-reaction occurred when samples were tested against human and bacterial genomic DNA. We have found that most clinically significant fungal isolates can be differentiated by this method, and it therefore serves to be a promising tool for the rapid (<7 h) diagnosis of fungemia and other invasive fungal infections.
