Pełny tekst źródłaFrom the perspective of a notion of “transfer”, this article proposes the analysis of the process of fictionalization of journalistic writing from the adoption of literary techniques. This process, which highlights the porosity of fiction and reality, is claimed by literary journalism, a hybrid modality situated between journalism and literature. Relying on factual and literariness, journalistic-literary writing is characterized, on the one hand, by its adherence to the truth and its search for reality and, on the other hand, by its vital need to narrate. In order to show how fiction and non-fiction are related within the text linked to this journalistic category, we are interested in the work of two journalist-writers who devoted their careers to the production of chronicle and reportage, representative genres of journalism literature in the context of the 20th century Brazilian press. Rubem Braga and Joel Silveira were not only the precursors of literary journalism in Brazil, they were also guarantors of this modality – especially during their work as war correspondents in the service of the newspapers Diário Carioca and Diários Associados. With their writing skills, they inscribed in the pages of these newspapers a poetics of everyday life based on a journalistic and literary approach. During the coverage of the Second World War, the chronicler Braga and the reporter Silveira showed, in their perspective, the ugliness of the war without neglecting the poetry of the facts. Practicing trench journalism, they witnessed the strength of literary journalism on the front and defended, in the writing and publication of their texts as books, the fight for perpetuity claimed by this journalistic aspect. In this research, we adopted as a corpus analysis the collections of chronicles and reports published in the books Crônicas de Guerra (Braga, 1964) and O Inverno da Guerra (Silveira, 2005), which are manifestations of the perennial writing of both authors
Sob a ôtica de uma noção de “transferências”, este trabalho propõe a análise do processo de ficcionalização da escrita jornalística a partir da adoção de técnicas literárias. Esse processo, que coloca em evidência a porosidade da ficção e da realidade, é reivindicado pelo jornalismo literário, modalidade híbrida situada entre o jornalismo e a literatura. Apoiando-se no factual e na literariedade, a escrita jornalístico-literária se caracteriza, de um lado, pela sua aderência à verdade e sua busca de realidade e, de um outro, pela sua necessidade vital de narrar. A fim de mostrar como a ficção e a não-ficção se relacionam no seio do texto ligado a essa categoria jornalística, nós nos interessamospelo trabalho de dois jornalistas-escritores que consagraram suas carreiras à produção dacrônica e da reportagem, gêneros representativos do jornalismo literário no contexto daimprensa brasileira do século XX. Rubem Braga e Joel Silveira não foram somente osprecursores do jornalismo literário no Brasil como também foram fiadores dessamodalidade — sobretudo durante a atuação como correspondentes de guerra a serviço dosjornais Diário Carioca e Diários Associados. Com suas habilidades de escrita, elesinscreveram nas páginas desses jornais uma poética do cotidiano baseada numaabordagem jornalística e literária. Durante a cobertura da Segunda Guerra mundial, ocronista Braga e o repórter Silveira mostraram, na perspectiva deles, a feiura da guerrasem negligenciar a poesia dos fatos. Praticando um jornalismo de trincheira, elestestemunharam a força do jornalismo literário no fronte e defenderam na escrita e napublicação de seus textos em formato livro o combate de perenização reivindicado poressa vertente jornalística. Pełny tekst źródłaThe movement in favor of the rebirth of Occitan, begun in the nineteenth century with the creation of the Félibrige (1854) by Frédéric Mistral—recognized world-wide and recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907—continued into the twentieth century. However, after Mistral’s death in 1914, defenders of Occitan language and literature, smothered by the centralizing power of the French Third Republic, struggled to be heard. There was a split into two branches: Mistralists and a “occitan” movement. However, in the 1930’s, both groups tried to work together, notably with Nouveau Languedoc, a group of younger individuals based in Montpellier. The Second World War confirmed the divisions among defenders of Occitan. Divided by linguistic questions, notably that of orthography, the movement was, in 1942, further divided by political positions. Whereas in 1940, almost all authors writing in Occitan supported or corroborated the politics of Vichy, in 1942, there was a sense of disillusion in the Occitan-language region; certain individuals did not hesitate to distance themselves from the government. Observing the paralysis of the rebirth movement, a team formed out of the Société d’Études Occitanes—Ismaël Girard, Camille Soula, René Nelli, Max Rouquette, Charles Camproux, et. alii—founded the Institut d’Études Occitanes after Liberation.Periodicals published during this period seem to be the preferred means to support the diffusion of Occitan. Generally printed in small format, thus reducing the need for paper and ink restricted by censors, journals in Occitan adopted no particular editorial line. Some were more literary; others preferred to publish articles on contemporary history and politics, while some provided readers with information relating current events to Occitan culture. These texts—literary, political, historic, and cultural—allow us to understand the organization of the rebirth movement, intimately tied to the Occitan literary world. This link between the worlds of politics and literature seems counter to the organization of the French-speaking world, in which the two fields are somewhat independent. This thesis seeks to show how the Second World War, a national and international event, influenced writing in a regional language, Occitan. Analyses show the principal themes that appear in literary works: political discourse, evocations of horror, the topic of religion, intergenerational engagement, and, at the end, tales of victory

It aims to shed light on a body of works that depict a “failed war”, unlike the epic vision which prevails in the post-war period. It analyses from an aesthetic, ethical and political perspective twenty novels or so which portray war as an unreal, elusive experience shared by French people.The first part of this work scrutinizes the way writers depict the failure of war. These novels portray the conflict as both spectral and brutal – seen from a distance, almost always mediated, concealed under the appearance of peace, yet unescapably destructive.These novels also throw light on the failure of community. A far cry from the seminal, unifying narrative of the epic, they start attacking the myth of France as unified in the war effort very soon after the end of the conflict.The second part of this thesis looks at the ways they construct the image of a torn or passive nation, as if they were France’s guilty conscience.This study will finally examine the way the novel “thinks”, how it was specifically used to convey a specific reflection on community. Against the discourses of literary Resistance, then Existentialism, it questioned the primacy of rational thinking in men; against the prominence of documents, it embraced fiction as a means to explore dark territories; against the calls for exemplariness, it constituted itself as an autonomous space to investigate the war, as well as to challenge the failures and shortcomings of the epic discourse

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Second World War saw in Japan a massive production of war stories, today widely forgotten. These texts are caught between the injunction made to writers to participate in the national effort, and the general notion that they cannot grasp the reality of war. This thesis aims to demonstrate that it is in the negotiation of this paradox within the texts that the Japanese literary world conceived and recognised its war literature. The plan distinguishes three successive moments, in order to reflect both the changing modalities of writers' engagement in the war, and the different writings that accounted for them.The first part deals with the first year of the conflict, during which the Japanese media employed the writers as special correspondents on the Chinese front; their reports show the quest for a specific value of writers' experience. The second part (1938-1941) focuses on the phenomenal success of the ‘soldier-writer’ figure, and its consequences on the writing of the war. The publication of infantry corporal and Akutagawa Prize laureate Hino Ashihei’s diary seemed to offer a model of purification of literature by combat that disqualified the institutionalised writers. The third and last part deals with the ‘requisition of scholars’, during which the army forced close to a hundred writers to leave for the new Japanese colonies in the Pacific. Critical successes that emerged from this unprecedented coercion system are marked by an ostensible will to produce genuine literature through the war

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study consists in a wide, comprehensive overview of the usages of the poetic form of the sonnet during the Second World War in France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy. Such a process aims at gathering close readings of sonnets, in order to highlight the mechanisms of a blooming form in the midst of a dürftiger Zeit. Many poets resort indeed to the sonnet in order to give a frame to a singular or collective experience of the chaos unleashed throughout Europe.The way these recourses to the sonnet interact with the role of poetry in a time of wide reception and collective crisis will be scrutinized in the light of political commitment, religious or ideological biases and the questioning of the former foundations of Western European culture, all of which can interfere in poetry’s proper motives.This work’s proposal is that the sonnet can be used as an ordered form, either to set a demiurgic stand in front of the chaotic situation of the continent, or so as to accept it. Neither poetic stances do necessarily lead to a disordering of the form itself ; however, both conservative and rejuvenating usages of the sonnet have in common the ability to deeply question poetry’s relation to the world

Pełny tekst źródłaIt seems that years of French occupation have had a great influence on Patrick Modiano's work - and being. Very few novels don't deal with this period, which is a cornerstone of the artist's writings. In order to make easier the understanding of the novelist's trauma, we propose a reflexion divided in three parts. First, we try to give a suggestive view of the work based upon World War II. Modiano mixes up reality and fantasy in a kind of vortex, which is the narrative translation of the author's discorded mind. This state of things finds its outcome in the original system of the stylistic devices used by Modiano. The question is studied in a second part of this work. The events don't always find their place in a logical way, so that the core of trauma is out of reach, covered by the layers of time. In fact, the narrator's strategy seems to be focused on a single spot, which is the hiding of tremor behind the shelter of forgery. At last, we try to show how the memory of French occupation plays an important part in the building of the author's personality. It seems obvious that the protagonists of Modiano's first books are essentially the specter of human beings. The disintegration of the soul is the best way to survive in the corrupted and ruthless world of occupation, and above all, the consequence of the loss of the father

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Feuillets open a fracture: the metapoetical thought decreases, imaginary of the peace becomes altered, writing simplified. This leads us to conceive the work like an independent semiotics system. To reveal a styleme of resistance writing, we tried to discover "the etymon" likely to combine stylistics components and the proceedings of a poet who became chief of maquis. Char's entire works contains a fighting spirit, but in the passage of an ethic requirement of resistance to the application, a founder principle is modified: the idea that it is necessary to be to have, to have to be able, to be able to do. The closeness of death reverses this presupposition: suddenly, it is necessary to do to be. A first study, thematic and micro-stylistic, is on that relegation of the being, which reveals, in deep, sides of the nazi's evil. A second study, lexico-semantical, shows the revalorization of to do whom from it results (re-semantization procedure, large diffusion of derivatives)

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Second World War has generated an important body of literature for young people, especially in English-speaking countries. Far from concentrating on battlefields scenes, many authors choose the Home front as background for their stories and depict the lives of women and children in wartime. This literature is therefore a major source of information on their roles either during the London Blitz, in the occupied countries in the resistance movements or merely in everyday life, when these social categories are usually seen as minor actors. Yet, women and children, just like men, have incurred gruesome ordeals, from the British evacuation to incarceration in concentration camps, where those fragile populations were the first to be eliminated. The books from our corpus, often autobiographical accounts, give us an essential wealth of portraits and representations for this period
