In this study, the polishing machine’s mathematical model of the movement has been established by analysis the several polishing machines’ grinding and polishing process for tile. Then according to the model to simulate the trajectory and compare the grinding grain uniformity and the size of the grinding area. The results show that the disc grinding machine in improving of the efficiency of grinding and grinding grain uniformity is better than the other motions.

The article presents the results of measurements of the ambient temperature around the working cylindrical grinding machines during the working day. The analysis of the behavior of the grinding head spindle of different cylindrical grinding machines during the work shift is performed, namely the results of experimental studies of the displacement of the front and rear ends of the grinding head spindle of cylindrical grinding machines are presented. The analysis of influence of temperature of working fluids in spindle bearings on its displacement is carried out. Possible changes in the geometric shape, namely, conicity, of parts machined on cylindrical grinding machines have been established.

Intensive wear of rails in curves significantly reduces their service life, reduces the efficiency of operational work. A promising direction in solving this problem is the technology of rail grinding, which allows mechanical processing of the rail head without dismantling them in the conditions of a railway track. The article presents the results of studies of the noise impact on track workers when grinding rails by means of small mechanization-a rail-grinding machine SH-1, a grinding machine 2152D and a manual machine for grinding rails MRSH3. The analysis of various layouts of rail grinding machines, their features, technical characteristics and octave levels of sound pressure when these machines are running at idle and under load was carried out. According to the results of experimental studies, graphical dependences of the sound pressure levels of rail grinding machines are constructed, the excess of the noise level over the permissible sanitary standards in the area of rail grinding by means of small mechanization is revealed.

The value of grinding angle of grinding machine directly affects working efficiency and processing precision of gear grinding machines. A mathematical model of Generating Motion is established by analyzing and studying working principle and machining processes of the grinding machine. Equations of Generating Motion had been determined when the grinding machine was working. Then the relationship between grinding angle and Generating Motion was gotten and the optimal value of the grinding angle was finally obtained.

In the manufacturing industry, grinding is used as a major process for machining difficult-to-cut materials. Grinding is the most complicated and precise machining process. For grinding machines, continuous generating gear grinding machines are widely used to machine gears which are essential machine elements. However, due to its complicated process, it is very difficult to design a reliable measurement method to identify the grinding wheel loading phenomena during the grinding process. Therefore, this paper proposes a measurement method to identify the grinding wheel loading phenomenon in the grinding process for continuous generating gear grinding machines. In the proposed approach, an acoustic emission (AE) sensor was embedded to monitor the grinding wheel conditions; an offline digital image processing technique was used to determine the loading areas over the surface of Al2O3 grinding wheels; and surface roughness of the ground workpiece was measured to quantify its machining quality. Then these three data were analyzed to find their correlation. The experimental results have shown that there are two stages of grinding in the grinding process and the proposed measurement method can provide a quantitative grinding wheel loading evaluation from the AE signals online.

Abstract Raw materials produced in large quantities are ground in ball, vibratory and stirred ball mills. In mills, the working parts are grinding balls. During grinding, grinding balls wear, change their diameter and lose their shape. The effect of this is the unfavourable change in the grinding balls parameters, which results in deterioration of the technological conditions of the milling process. Relevant parameters of the grinding balls set are restored during maintenance shutdowns. Grinding balls are sorted into appropriate size classes; grinding balls that are not suitable for further use are rejected, and then a set of grinding balls with appropriate parameters is used again. The time needed to prepare the required set depends mainly on the sorting time. To reduce this time, appropriate grinding balls sorting machines are used. The paper presents major problems associated with the grinding balls sorting process, a comparison of modern types of grinding balls sorting machines, a description of their construction and technological parameters.

The paper is devoted to a solving an important scientific and technical problem of increasing the productivity of defect-free profile gear grinding on CNC machines on the basis of development of on-machine intelligent subsystems for the grinding operation designing, monitoring, and diagnosing which allow grinding system elements adapting to a higher productivity of the CNC grinder. The characteristic of the adaptation principle in manufacturing systems on CNC machines is given in accordance with both the systems and control theories. The productivity resources based on the use of the adaptation principle are studied and identified as well as a methodology is developed for researching the grinding system using scientific methods of modeling, optimization and control. Besides, corresponding technological preconditions are given in the form of a set of purposeful methods and means of innovative profile grinding technology, including grinding stock on-machine measurement and transformation the stock uncertainty into the grinding wheel displacement from the gear to be grinded.

В работе представлен анализ результатов эволюции параметров ручных пневматических шлифовальных машин на протяжении значительного интервала времени. Показаны достижения ведущих мировых производителей и выбраны три основных параметра, характеризующие возможности шлифовальных машин. Выявлены тенденции изменения удельной мощности и удельного расхода машин. Проведен сравнительный анализ перспектив развития машин с ротационным и турбинным приводом. Рассмотрена проблема совместной работы режущего инструмента и шлифовальной машины. Выявлена недостаточная быстроходность ручных пневматических шлифовальных машин с ротационным типом привода. Сделан вывод о большей перспективности применения многоступенчатых турбин в качестве привода шлифовальных машин. Представлен анализ компоновочных схем машин с турбинным приводом мировых производителей. Обоснована новая высокоэффективная конструктивная схема радиальных многоступенчатых турбин для привода пневматических шлифовальных машин. Показаны преимущества предложенной схемы, определены пути преодоления технологических барьеров при ее реализации. The paper suggests the results of analysis the parameters evolution of manual pneumatic grinding machines for a long time. The achievements of the world's leading manufacturers are shown and three main parameters that define the performance of grinding machines are selected. Trends in the specific power and specific air consumption of the machines are opened. An analysis of the development prospects for rotary and turbine machines is carried out. The problem of common action of a cutting tool and a grinding machine is considered. The insufficient speed of rotary manual pneumatic grinding machines is shown. It is determined that multi-stage turbines are most preferable for grinding machines. The design analysis of turbine machines of world manufacturers is presented. A new high-efficiency design of radial multi-stage turbines for driving pneumatic grinding machines is founded. The advantages of the new design are shown. The ways of overcoming technological challenges in the new design implementation are determined.

Passive grinding is a high-speed rail grinding maintenance strategy, which is completely different from the conventional rail active grinding system. In contrast to active grinding, there is no power to drive the grinding wheel to rotate actively in passive grinding. The passive grinding process is realized only by the cooperation of grinding pressure, relative motion, and deflection angle. Grinding tests for passive grinding can help to improve the passive grinding process specifications and be used for the development of passive grinding wheels. However, most of the known grinding methods are active grinding, while the passive grinding machines and processes are rarely studied. Therefore, a passive grinding test machine was designed to simulate passive grinding in this study. This paper gives a detailed description and explanation of the structure and function of the passive grinding tester. Moreover, the characteristics of the grinding process and parameter settings of the testing machine were discussed based on the passive grinding principle. The design of a passive grinding test machine provides experimental equipment support for investigating passive grinding behavior and grinding process.

As a result of the analysis of developed earlier mathematical models of the process of seeds purification on a two-tier lattice mill of polymeric materials the possibility of significant improvement in the quality of seed treatment and performance at the same quality at the expense of more rational technological schemes and modernization of the sieve camp’s were revealed. Constructive changes were made in the lattice mill with using a new type of polymer sieves. Result of this experimental studies confirm the identified possibility of intensification of the process of seed cleaning - completeness of waste allocation increased from 0,653 to 0.75, i.e. 15 %, performance for the same quality of cleaning have increased by 24%.

The competitiveness of machine-building products is largely determined by the accuracy of mechanical processing of the manufactured parts and the state of the surface layer. The condition of the surface layer is carried out by finishing operations, such as grinding. The volume of grinding operations is from 25 to 60 % of various technological operations. Working conditions in the grinding areas are considered harmful and dangerous. [1]. The noise levels at the workplaces of these machines’ operators exceed the standard values. The sound emission from the part during grinding is a particular feature of this process. A theoretical study of the noise generation processes on such machines was carried out to develop the recommendations.

Due to the great expansion of woodworking, profile tools manufacturing has become current and in demand. In wood industry there are two large groups of tools: rotary and spindle milling cutters that can be profile or flat. The technology of making profile rotary milling cutters requires, apart from cutting, turning, milling, 5-axis grinding operation that is performed on a 5-axis CNC grinding machine with the A'OXYZC configuration.It is a machine of a very complex kinematics and high cost-price. The paper presents a new machine that has been built for 3+2-axis grinding - Profilator 100,used for industrial manufacturing of rotary and spindle profile milling cutters. The accuracy of measures and shapes of the profile cutters built on Profilator 100 is of a high level and in industrial exploitation the difference is not observed between the profile cutters built on 5-axis CNC grinding machines. Regarding technoeconomic cost-effectiveness, production costs of Profilator 100 are lower even by ten times compared to the cost-price of 5-axis CNC grinding machines of renowned world manufacturers such as Schneeberger and Volmer.

Kademangan is a shrimp paste production center in the Probolinggo municipality. The shrimp paste made from this fish processing center is of lower quality than similar products on the market. The varying size of the raw materials is a significant problem in shrimp paste production in this business hub. This activity aimed to improve the quality of the shrimp paste product by introducing and enhancing the partners' skills in using grinders and shrimp powder for rebon shrimp in making rebon shrimp paste. The method of this service activity consists of training, monitoring, and evaluation of the activities. This activity showed that the partners had received training on the production of shrimp paste and its quality and the use of grinding machines and machines for boiling shrimp meal. During the partner monitoring period, it became apparent that the partners had switched the technology from manual production of shrimp paste to machine production. The evaluation results show that the partners are familiar with grinding and grinding machines in making Rebon shrimp paste. The resulting products are of higher quality than those made before the partners used the shrimp grinding shrimp flour machines. The conclusion is that the use of grinding and flour machines for rebon shrimp by partners has increased the production capacity by three times and increased the quality of the rebon shrimp paste.

The mining company uses a variety of grinding machines to process minerals, whereas the most common type of machine is the Semi-Autogenous Grinding SAG Mill machine. This machine is employed for the mining process of hard rock as raw material into gold, copper, and silver. However, the SAG Mill machines are often broken, even suddenly not working, with an average loss time of 97.30 hours which impacts a decrease in efficiency and production quality of up to 40%. It can cause losses that do not reach the production target. This research aims to measure the effectiveness of the SAG Mill machine and determine the failure using the OEE and FMEA methods. The results showed that the SAG Mill machine is still under standardized based on the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM), which is 85%. The FMEA method and RPN value apply to analyze downtime losses, and idling is the loss that highly affects the effectiveness of SAG Mill machines. Recommendations for the company are to increase the number of equipment that aims to prolong the machine's age and accelerate production. This research contributes to another solution to help maintenance managers by measuring the effectiveness and determining the failure of the SAG Mill machine

To increase quality, reduce cycloidal gear noise, and avoid unnecessary vibration and shock, a compensation of axial geometric errors method is proposed based on the cycloidal gear form grinding. In the process of machining cycloidal gears, the relative position relationship between the grinding wheel and workpiece is affected by geometric errors of the motion axes, which has serious effects on the surface accuracy of the cycloidal gears. Combined with cycloidal gear form grinding kinematic principles, a geometric error model for each axis of a four-axis computer numerical control form grinding machine is established. By changing the compensation value of the geometrical errors on six degrees of freedom, the error of the cycloid gear tooth surface machined is obtained. Based on a sensitivity analysis of geometrical errors of each axis, the corrections are determined through an optimization process that targets the minimization of the tooth flank errors. The geometric errors of each axis of the cycloid gear grinding machine are compensated, and then, the cycloid gears produced by the machine are processed. Through the processing experiment, the error data of the actual processing before and after the compensation are compared, which indicates that the machining accuracy of the cycloid gear grinding machine is obviously improved. It has an important guiding significance in improving the precision and performance of large CNC form gear grinding machines.

According to needs of aspheric lens grinding and measurement with X/Y/Z 3-axis grinding machines, a CAM system is designed and implemented. The system, based on the parallel grinding geometry model, has realized the function of grinding locus planning, form error compensation, NC program auto-generation, on-machine measurement, grinding wheel on-machine measurement, simulation and technical database. To verify the stability of this CAM system, experiments were performed with three independent machining experiments. The experimental results indicate that the system realized the whole process of aspheric grinding, and it improved the machining efficiency and automation. Especially, this system adopted on-machine form error compensation technology and improved the machining accuracy. By implementing the error compensation integrated in the CAM system, the surface form error of a 430mm×430mm aspheric lens is decreased from PV8.2µm to PV4.1µm. The grinding accuracy was improved 100%.

Good surface finish is one of the important demands from the outputs of a cylindrical grinding machine. Also it is expected that dimensional accuracy, including accuracy in roundness, is fine in traverse cut cylindrical grinding. Now, like any other machine tool, cylindrical grinding machines also do vibrate, and vibration will affect accuracy and surface finish of the parts produced in grinding. The analysis of vibration in cylindrical grinding is then very much important. In the present study some aspects of vibration – behavior of cylindrical grinding machine have been experimented and analyzed. The process parameters have been varied and vibration signals have been measured in different directions by positioning an accelerometer at tail stock of the machine. The data have been analyzed through various statistical techniques to identify and predict vibration at given combinations of process parameters. The results and analysis of data give useful idea about dynamic performance of cylindrical grinding machine in traverse cut cylindrical grinding operation.

The dynamic characteristics of the grinding machines have an impact on its machining quality and cutting efficiency. In this paper, through the analysis of the structural features of the Large CNC gantry surface grinding machine, the finite element model of structure of the grinder was established on the base of the simplified machine structure, on which carried out its dynamics analysis, obtaining the modal parameters of the orders under different mode shapes. The effect on the dynamic characteristics of machine tools was analyzed under different mode shapes, then the weak link of the surface grinding machine was given, and then how to improve the structural design weakness of surface grinding machine was discussed, all of which provided theoretical basis for improvemental design for the structure of the large CNC gantry surface grinding machine.

Lapping of plane surfaces is the technology which allows achieving high surface quality. Kinematics of lapping has the main effect on the flatness of active plane of the lapping tools as well as on the quality and flatness of the machined surface. Lapping machines can be used for grinding without the chuck-related problems as encountered in conventional surface grinding. The configuration of a conventional single-disk lapping machine was modified and the rotational velocity of a workpiece holder can be precisely controlled by a stepper motor. Two types of tools were used for experiments on a modified machine. The first tool was equipped with grinding inserts made of resin and synthetic diamond micrograins (grit size 3/2 m). In the second stage of experiments the single-layer electroplated diamond tool (D107 – grit size 106/90 m) was applied. Ceramic workpieces (Al2O3) were machined on the modified single-disc lapping machine with the use of both tools and with additional loose abrasive. Experimental results of removal rates, technological parameters and kinematical analysis are the subject of the presented paper.

This paper proposes a novel method of collision-free fixture and tool space design for five-axis grinding, considering tool movement, machine degrees of freedom, the machine envelope, inspection, and related features. The fixture space is designed in three steps. First, the fixture space is generated as the remaining space after cutting out the tooling space (i.e. the sweeping space of the grinding wheel along the profile of the machined features). In this way, the fixture space is naturally collision-free with respect to tool movement. Second, the fixture space is further modified based on the constraints imposed by the grinding machine centre, which include over-travel distance, the positions of coolant nozzle and wheel dresser, and so on. Third, the fixture space is modified again according to measurements conducted by coordinate measuring machines and in-cycle machine probes. Interactions of fixture space with tool space, machine, and inspection are considered. The fixture space design for holding aerofoil blades on a five-axis machining centre Makino A55 for grinding operations is used as a case study, and the results of this study have been verified by computer-aided manufacture (CAM) simulation software Vericut and physical experiments using dummy wheels.

In the development of technology and industry, a lot of tools are made to make it easier to do work. In the farming sector, a lot of tools are needed to facilitate development in the farming sector. One of the tools needed is a machine to make animal feed. One of the ingredients for making animal feed is bran, bran produced from the process of milling rice husks. To produce bran, a tool that can crush rice husks into the form of flour is designed to make animal feed suitable, as well as make the shape of a portable grinding machine. In this design, data collection steps were carried out with literature studies and after that carried out experiments on the manufacture of rice husk grinding machines. In conducting the experiment, the concept of design, design, calculation, manufacture and testing of grinding machines was also carried out. The result of this design is the design of a grinding machine and a grinding machine that can smooth rice husks into flour and portable forms. The specifications of the rice husk grinding machine are a frame with a length of 580 mm, a width of 380 mm and a height of 995 mm. Drive source 7 HP petrol motor with belt pulley transmission. The speed of the grinding blade shaft can be changed by replacing the pulley on the driving motor so that it can determine the fineness of the bran and the speed of the grinding. As well as the filter on the milling section can be replaced in order to adjust to the required level of fineness.

Experimental studies of the temperature of the working fluid in the spindle bearings of the grinding head of circular grinding machines of different models have been performed. The conditions of the performed experimental researches are described. The influence of ambient temperature and design parameters of grinding head parts on the change of working fluid temperature in the front and rear spindle bearings is considered. It is experimentally proven that the difference in fluid temperatures in the front and rear bearings depends on the operating time of the machine. The time interval of machine operation when thermal equilibrium occurs is set.

This paper presents the results of theoretical studies of the drive belting and grinding belts` acoustic characteristics as elements of flexible connections, that fundamentally distinguishes them from bobbin sanding and cylinder-grinding woodworking machines. It also has the significant differences in comparison with other sources in terms of stiffness and tension forces. The choice of the noise source models is justified by the characteristic features of the kinematics of the machine tools and the grinding technological process. The arrangement of the machines` acoustic system of chosen group suggests that the main sources of energy radiation are: grinding belts and belt drives of the work pieces and grinding units, ground work pieces, electric motors. It is compared the expected noise levels with sanitary standards for determining the excess and the sources that generate them. These data are the main information for the acoustic calculation and design of the noise reduction systems of the above sources at the design stage in such woodworking equipment, and it also determines the acoustic efficiency of the noise protection systems and consider to design these systems in accordance with the implementation of the sanitary noise standards at the machine operator workplaces.

AbstractIn the paper the evaluation of efficiency of the use of machines in the selected production company was presented. The OEE method (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) was used for the analysis. The selected company deals with the production of tapered roller bearings. The analysis of effectiveness was done for 17 automatic grinding lines working in the department of grinding rollers. Low level of efficiency of machines was affected by problems with the availability of machines and devices. The causes of machine downtime on these lines was also analyzed. Three basic causes of downtime were identified: no kanban card, diamonding, no operator. Ways to improve the use of these machines were suggested. The analysis takes into account the actual results from the production process and covers the period of one calendar year.

In modern grinding processes the field of application for vitrified bonded wheels is constantly increasing. Regarding the grinding itself, the advantages of these wheels are obvious. But their ability to be dressed offers further benefits as well. Usually in-machine dressing is favorable. Nevertheless, in-machine dressing causes non-productive-times during which no part production is possible. To reduce this disadvantage, a powerful monitoring is needed in order to minimize the number of needed dressing strokes and to verify the created grinding wheel geometry. The approach applicable for industry is to use an acoustic emission sensor for monitoring, which is usually integrated in modern grinding machines to minimize the air grinding time. This article also provides basic knowledge about Acoustic Emission.

The paper presents an analysis of thermal processes in the bearing system of a double-sided face grinding machine. Experimental data on temperatures and displacements obtained when the machine is idling and when imitating the grinding process with the help of electric heaters of various powers are used for analysis. The performed studies have shown that thermal deformations of double-sided face grinding machines with an arc trajectory of workpiece feed occur in a wide range in magnitude and direction. It can violate the main requirement for the precise operation of the machine - the symmetry of processing conditions at both ends of the workpiece. From the experiments, the absolute value of the non-parallelism of the grinding wheels after three hours of operation is established; it is almost twice the value of the removed allowance. Analysis of the kinetic change in the deformations of the supporting system of the machine tool during operation under thermal load shows that as it warms up, the relative position of the grinding wheels gradually changes from the state "wider at the bottom" to the state "narrower below". This leads to a spontaneous change in the dynamic tuning of the technological system and a corresponding change in the processing accuracy. Changes in the dynamic tuning of the technological system with varying intensity continue throughout the entire operating time of the machine.

The technology and organization of construction production using high-performance machines equipped with a diamond tool for machining concrete, concrete and stone surfaces is considered. Various installations, machines and mechanisms with a diamond tool for milling, grinding, drilling and cutting surfaces are presented. The design decisions of the grinding machine MSh-300, installations for machining the surfaces of facing slabs, a high-performance drilling machine and a concrete surface milling cutter are considered. An analysis of domestic and foreign installations has been carried out, which showed that the specific consumption of diamonds in domestic installations is lower with higher productivity. Having studied the sales statistics of manufacturers of individual machines and plants, as well as the positive feedback from implementing construction organizations, it is recommended to use, for the further prospect, high-performance machines and installations with a diamond tool in connection with an increase in the volume of reconstruction of industrial and civil facilities and the construction of transport highways.

Assembling plays a significant role in the performance of large-scale CNC gear profile grinding machines. An approach in the deviation evaluation of ground tooth surfaces taking into account assembly errors is proposed in this paper. Based on the error transmission chain of the profile grinding system and the conjugate motion relationship between the grinding wheel and the workpiece, the ground tooth surface model including assembly errors was established using the surface envelope method. Then, the effect of assembly errors on deviations of the profile grinding tooth surface was quantitatively analyzed. The optimized distribution of assembly errors and machining verifications were performed on large-scale CNC gear profile grinding machines. The results show that the proposed method is effective at ensuring ground tooth surface deviations for large-scale CNC gear profile grinding machines.

Recently developed computer-controlled twist drill grinding machines have allowed the production of precisely defined points of widely different shapes. The design methodology used for these machines has yielded machines that have up to seven separate axes. This paper shows that in a machine where all the axes can move simultaneously only two rotations and one translation are required to grind drill points. The design methodology employed in this paper uses modern matrix kinematic methods. The kinematic equations developed are simple enough to be solved iteratively on a desktop computer. In addition, the requirement to preset the drill in the drill holder with a fixture is eliminated in this machine.

The precise face grinding and lapping technology with abrasive or abrasive tool has been widely used in the field of the precise manufacture and ultraprecise manufacture. It has become an essential technology in the manufacture of many components. The planetary lapping machine is typical equipment for face grinding or lapping process. And the relative motions between the workpieces and grinding wheel will affect the formation of wear profiles of the tools, furthermore, the work result will be affected directly by the cutting path of this relative motions. In this paper, the kinematic principle of face grinding process on lapping machines has been analyzed. By means of the concept of pitch point and pitch circles, the complicated grinding process has been converted into two kinds of rotations with the fixed center distance. Two kinds of path curves, i.e. workpiece against grinding wheel and grinding wheel against workpiece, and their relations are analyzed. The geometrical analyses and the manufacture quality of the workpiece are linked with the aid of the cutting velocity, the range of the rotational angle of the cutting traces and the rate of the change of the rotational angle with time. The optimal path curve and kinematic parameters are achieved, and these results are corresponding to the experimental results.

On-machine direct detection of profile errors is vital to improve accuracy and efficiency in profile grinding. However, achieving such detection processes is difficult because of harsh machining conditions. This study presents a novel machine-vision-based processing methodology for the profile grinding of contour surfaces instead of the traditional optical-enlargement-based profile grinding which is manual dependent and low efficient. Grinding errors were efficiently detected online through machine vision. A specific vision system was coordinately designed with the profile grinding system to ensure distortionless measurement of workpiece contour and overcome the interferences of machining environment during profile grinding. A machining error detection principle was proposed based on the online captured workpiece contour image. Real-time error identification and compensation algorithms were developed through the synthetic error measurement. Simulations and experiments were conducted successively. The results indicated that profile errors were considerably reduced and measurement efficiency was improved, validating the effectiveness of the proposed methodology for profile grinding of contour surface. The findings can also provide a reference for the direct measurement of machining errors in other machines.

Reliability of the traditional classification method is not clear, standards are not uniform, the paper application taxonomy for 12 CNC grinding machines from September 2012 to July 2014 for two years more than 600 pieces complete failure and repair data for statistical analysis to identify a greater impact on the overall reliability of the fault location and cause of the malfunction. According to the probability of occurrence of each failure mode, the severity of harm's comprehensive evaluation of the degree of fault of each site, identify the weak links of the whole system. As a result, the reliability of CNC cylindrical grinding machine will be greatly improved.

For the renovation and/or improvement of the surface properties of machine elements, hard facing is often used. Hard structures obtained in layers or by heat treatment achieve a hardness of up to 68 hardness (HRC) or even more. The grinding of these surfaces demands the use of processing fluids and causes sometimes changes in the surface layers structure. Hard turning can replace grinding when certain requirements are fulfilled, particularly tough machining system. Hard deposits of two weld-on materials on a sample of steel grade S235JRG1 have been turned using cemented carbide inserts with a TiAlN coating of PVD type. The surface roughness measurements along with the observation of insert wear have been conducted to find proper machining parameters and conditions for this application. Cutting inserts manufacturer guidelines for special application could be insufficient or even not provided. Besides that, it is necessary in the experiments to take into account and examine the cutting ceramics and cubic boron nitride (CBN)/polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN).

By applying NC system with three axes ganged function to M1432 universal cylindrical grinding machine, a NC grinding machine with two moving axes and one circumrotating axis ganged function is designed and developed. Besides two moving axes ganged function, this machine has a special function of driving the form wheel dresser to circumrotate around the Y axis. Ordinary grinding machine with two axes ganged function can’t machine complicated parts such as seaming roll with steep gradient groove. But a grinding machine with this special unction can do this by precisely dressing the form wheel with various aspheric curves. With the set-in PLC function of NUM1020 NC system and the correlative parameters to be respectively setup, the new machine can be used to machine some complicated parts such as seaming roll. The system receives machining process codes which is pretreated by computer firstly and dresses the form wheel in DNC mode, then machines parts with the form wheel later.

The modern design disc machines used for grinding grain have resulted from long development and their operation has a relatively low noise level with reduced dust. Mechanical alloying and mechanical fine grinding processes are mostly based on the high energy milling technique. Equipment of a horizontal high-energy ball mill that has been developed in the Cefet-BA is a low cost machine with high performance. These milling machines are equipped with a cylindrical stainless steel horizontal container. Inside the container, a chamber of water circulation is used to maintain, powdered materials, the room temperature. The grinding container inside to chamber horizontal container is a container, cylindrical stainless steel, opened of the two sides. The container with the powder particles is a sealed of two sides and vacuum out-gassed is realized. A motor driven rotor is used to accelerate the grinding media and the milling process is realized due to the ball to ball/rotor/wall impacts as their kinetic energy is transferred into the powder which is randomly located between the colliding balls. The rotor milling machine equipment permits two rpm e.g. 500 and 1500 rpm. Machines based on this design from lab scale (3.0 liter volume), mainly to develop new powders and materials.

In this paper it is presented an analysis regarding the influence of temperature from the chipping area, in the machining by centerless grinding with transversal feed. The temperature influences the machining precision, the additional loads of the machine – device – tool – part elastic system and the measurement accuracy. These influences have direct impact on the precision and quality of the machined parts executed using the centerless grinding process.
