Streszczenie:
The grief process was observed as a social construct during a 1981–82 field study of three widows support groups in Phoenix, Arizona. The grief process was accepted by widows and professionals as a fact that was not contestable. They shared the image of a survivor as a wayfarer through the territory of grief, and the grief process was seen as an aid for the widow on her journey. There were two forms of aid: as a timetable and as a guide. As a timetable, the grief process was a list of points of demarcation along the way with specified times for reaching each. Used as a timetable, the grief process contributed to widows' distress and concern about time and events. As a guide, the grief process was a series of sign posts the traveler could notice along the way to gauge her progress through grief; differences and changes were indicated over time but no appropriate durations were stipulated. Used as a guide, the grief process contributed to rebuilding widows' previously easy definition and placement of events within the flow of time. The investigator pointed out that the grief process was originally the product of scholarly writers and that these findings have implications for interactions among widows, popular writers, professionals, and researchers.

Streszczenie:
Previous literature reveals a high prevalence of grief in dementia caregivers before physical death of the person with dementia that is associated with stress, burden, and depression. To date, theoretical models and therapeutic interventions with grief in caregivers have not adequately considered the grief process, but instead have focused on grief as a symptom that manifests within the process of caregiving. The Dementia Grief Model explicates the unique process of pre-death grief in dementia caregivers. In this paper we introduce the Dementia Grief Model, describe the unique characteristics of dementia grief, and present the psychological states associated with the process of dementia grief. The model explicates an iterative grief process involving three states— separation, liminality, and re-emergence—each with a dynamic mechanism that facilitates or hinders movement through the dementia grief process. Finally, we offer potential applied research questions informed by the model.

Efforts Have Been Made To Suggest Ways For People To Communicate With Those Going Through The Bereavement Process. Bereavement Is Defined As The Period Of Time Following A Death That An Individual Grieves Or Suffers The Emotional Loss Of Another Person. The Purpose Of The Study Was To Examine Perceptions Of Various Strategies Used To Comfort Grievers, and to examine how relational and situational factors affect those perceptions. A working solution was created to help people know what to communicate and when to discuss death with an individual going through the bereavement process.

This qualitative study examines the migratory experience of immigrant Latina married women. It looks at their experience from both an individual and a systemic perspective. It compares their experience to that of grief due to bereavement using Parkes' theory of the grief process. This research also presents findings as to the effects of migration on the marital system. Analysis of interview data provided by 12 Latin American women who resided in the United States ranging from 2 years to 10 years, allowed a comparison between the experience of these women and the grief process theory. The findings of the study indicate that although there are some slight differences between grieving a deceased person and grieving the loss of a country, the similarities predominate. The data gathered was divided into the categories of initial mixed-emotions, searching, anger, disorganization and despair, recovery. Furthermore, the impact of immigration on the marital dyad was analyzed. The interviewees reported an increase in marital argument during the first stages of immigration with a tendency to decrease as time lapses. Overall, the interviewees identified their marital relationship as being stronger than prior to coming to the United States.

Streszczenie:
The aim of this study was to assess the applicability of the grief process to job loss. A pilot study of ten unemployed men was used to establish the structured interview and an appropriate form of content analysis, based on the components of grief derived from studies of bereavement. Other measures assessed the degree of attachment to the former job. This was followed by a cross-sectional study involving 60 men who had lost their jobs over the previous eight years. All of the individual components of grief were found among the sample and twenty seven percent of the sample fulfilled a criterion for a clear grief-like response. A longitudinal study involving 38 men extending over twelve months was then carried out so that changes over time could be investigated more thoroughly. In this study, too, all of the individual components of grief were found among the sample, and at the time of the first interview, twenty four percent of the men fulfilled the criterion for an unambiguous grief-like reaction. There was a high level of consistency in the results of the cross- sectional and longitudinal studies. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies provided evidence that some of the factors said to mediate the effects of bereavement had a similar influence on reactions to unemployment. In both, individual characteristics rather than length of time since job loss accounted for variation in the men's reactions and neither the patterns suggested by stage theories for bereavement nor for unemployment were reproduced.

Streszczenie:
Grief is a life changing and universal experience, expressed through individual sets of responses and behaviours. Society and health workers’ interpretation and beliefs regarding grief and bereavement have changed throughout the decades. This is a continually evolving process. As we move into a new century, so too does grief move into a new era where a new postmodern paradigm is arising. We are thus deviating away from stage theories that are time limited, linear and predictable. Emphasis in this new wave of thought is placed upon grief as an oscillating and highly unique experience, one that encourages a continuation of a bond and lifetime relationship with the deceased. This current qualitative study explores the new phenomenon in relation to both the grief process and bereavement support programs, by extensively reviewing the literature and analysing data from a number of interviews with the bereaved. Furthermore the supports offered by society, with particular focus on a Melbourne Community Bereavement Follow Up Program, are reviewed. By observing and discussing expressions of grief it was found, although unique and varying, some patterns or common behaviors emerged. Supports and comforts that assisted the bereaved are explored. Issues, including inappropriate comments and problems with bureaucratic departments, are also developed and discussed. There is an emphasis placed upon the need of health care staff and the community in general to increase their understanding of the grief process and bereavement support, so as to enhance care and practice when working with people who have suffered loss.

An exploration began to understand the relationship between architecture and human emotion. Inspired by a personal story of loss, this thesis began to disseminate the five stages of the Elizabeth Kübler Ross model of grief. Each of the stages was studied in depth to find architectural elements that relate to every stage. Furthermore, the elements helped establish a mood and quality of the spaces that were directly associated with program, light, and material. As the project began to evolve, a series of questions of architectural sequence, material practices, and placemaking followed and with every step, a decision was to be made. This constant decision-making was influenced by sets of conditions and contexts resulting in a methodology specific to a particular site. This thesis presents a case to look at architecture through a qualitative design process. It endeavors to define and explore elements of architecture to create an experience, that has impact on human emotion.

Streszczenie:
Abstract The purpose of this study was to describe the family grief and recovery process through a qualitative phenomenological family therapy approach. The study included stories of 22 families and one focus group. Of the losses 14, were perinatal, 6 Sudden Infant Death Syndromes (SIDS) and 2 neonatal deaths. The analysed text was divided into 21 categories, which represent different aspects of the meaning systems of the families. All the families had traumatic symptoms in the beginning, and some mothers suffered from persistent posttraumatic symptoms for several months. Children processed their experiences in grief play and tried to restore their parents back into their roles. Grief was shared in extended families, especially religious families, where acute grief soon generated new meanings. The recovery process starts immediately after the loss, manifesting as thoughts of coping. Grief, trauma and recovery appear intertwined in the stories. Family grief is a many-faceted physical, psychological, spiritual and social process. It is paradoxical, and restorying and retelling are therefore important as a healing process. The main finding of this study is the intensive way the parents initially need to reprocess their attachment to the psychological remains of their baby in order to recover. Grieving thus involves deep attachment rather than detachment, Some families have phantom babies who continue to live psychologically and almost physically or little angels who comfort and escort the family. The parents have invested so much primeval energy in the baby who is no longer alive that they tend to re-create her/him in their minds psychologically or spiritually. Professional helpers still have too little knowledge of crisis intervention. The loss of a baby is an exceptional type of normal grief and the parents therefore have difficulties in getting the support they need. Family debriefing and follow-up are necessary.

ABSTRACT Background: The death of a child is a painful experience for parents. The distress of bereaved fathers remained inadequately understood since most of the existing studies had concentrated mainly on the mothers’ experience. This scoping review aimed to investigate the fathers’ experience on the incident of newborn death. Subjects and Method: A scoping review method was conducted in eight stages including (1) Identification of study problems; (2) Determining priority problem and study question; (3) Determining framework; (4) Literature searching; (5) Article selection; (6) Critical appraisal; (7) Data extraction; and (8) Mapping. The research question was identified using population, exposure, and outcome(s) (PEOS) framework. The search included PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct, ProQuest, EBSCO, gray literature through the Google Scholar search engine databases. The inclusion criteria were English-language and primary studied full-text articles published between 2010 and 2019. A total of 307 articles were obtained by the searched database. After the review process, seven articles were eligible for this review. The data were reported by the PRISMA flow chart. Results: A total of 307 articles were obtained by the searched databases. After screening, 55,052 articles were excluded because of 54,847 articles with irrelevant topics, 22 book review articles, and 183 duplicate articles. Of the remaining 88 articles, only 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. After conducting critical appraisal, a total of six articles from developed countries (Australia, Sweden, Spain, and Columbia) with qualitative studies was selected to further review. This review emphasized three main topics about experiences of fathers after the death of the newborn, namely psychological conditions and coping behaviors of fathers, and supportive care from health professionals. Conclusion: Further support and care of health professionals need to focus on fathers’ experience of grief following newborn death, especially on their physical and mental well-being. Streszczenie:
Boiling heat transfer has been the subject of research for many years, with a substantial amount of effort devoted to understanding the microscale transport processes of nucleate boiling. This information is essential to determine appropriate expressions for the boiling heat transfer coefficient. As a result, several different competing models based on the bubbling dynamics and its associated heat transfer mechanisms have been hypothesized to account for the sensible and latent heat transport and liquid motion adjacent to the heat transfer surface. Many of the early models were based on the assumptions that growth, departure and the associated pumping action of the bubbles are responsible for heat transfer during nucleate boiling. Jakob [1] and Rohsenow [2] were apparently the first to postulate that the process of growth and departure of the bubble is responsible for the induced motion of the liquid adjacent to the heat transfer, as in any single-phase convection process. Rohsenow [2] modeled the heat transfer by using bubble diameter as a characteristic length to determine a Nusselt number based on a defined Reynolds and Prandtl number. Even with the same line of reasoning, Rohsenow’s analysis resulted in a different formulation compared to Froster and Zober [3], who implemented an alternate hypothesis for the velocity of the bubble interface used in defining the Reynolds number. Other models of this nature were also proposed by Forster and Greif [4] and Zuber [5].
