Streszczenie:
Mature economies may experience fluctuations, but the average medium and long run growth rate matches the natural rate. Like Kaldor's neo-Keynesian models, the Marx-Goodwin tradition explains this outcome by endogenizing the distribution of income and assuming that the accumulation of capital is increasing as a function of the profit share. The application of Goodwin cycles to developing economies may be hard to justify, however. The modified Goodwin models in this paper include relative-wage norms as a central element of wage formation. Norms change endogenously, leading to path dependence (hysteresis) in the stationary solution for the employment share of the modern sector. The effects of shocks – the sensitivity of the long-run outcome to initial conditions – may be amplified by non-linearities in the adjustment of wages to deviations of actual wages from the norm.

Streszczenie:
The impact of goodwill on financial statements has attracted attention from all walks of life. The huge impairment of goodwill in A-shares at the end of 2018 made goodwill once again the focus of discussion and research. The uncertainty of accounting estimates for the subsequent measurement of goodwill and the complexity of the impairment testing process have long brought greater difficulties to financial accounting and CPA auditing. This article selects the audit reports of A-share listed companies as a sample, and analyzes the main audit response measures for goodwill impairment matters listed in the key audit matters to understand the status of goodwill impairment audits by CPAs. Based on the statistical analysis results and the summary of relevant administrative regulatory measures of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the main risk points of the current goodwill impairment audit inspection risks were summarized according to the audit business stages. Thirdly, this article selects representative audit cases of listed companies in the media industry for case analysis. After comprehensively elaborating on the goodwill formation and subsequent measurement process of the case company, this article conducts an in-depth analysis of the main audit measures taken by certified public accountants on the company's goodwill impairment matters, and analyzes the project's goodwill impairment based on the goodwill impairment audit risk model. Value audit risks are analyzed and problems that may lead to inspection risks are summarized. The conclusions drawn based on statistical analysis and literature review were verified, and the causes of the problems were analyzed based on the case background. Finally, this article puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for preventing and responding to goodwill impairment audit risks from both short-term and long-term aspects.

Streszczenie:
The economic model which deals with the economic cycle is Goodwin's Model. It presents the relationship between the employment rate and wage shares. In this study, the modification model was made, taking into three types of workers, namely high, medium, and low-skilled workers. Studies of the model are conducted by determining the equilibrium point and its stability analysis. Furthermore, a numerical simulation is given to see which model satisfies the ideal of Goodwin‘s model cycle prediction by using Indonesian data from 2000 to 2020. In the end, an investigation into the effects of reducing the wage gap between the three types of workers was conducted. The results showed two equilibrium points, namely The Equilibrium Point without Employment Rate and The Wages Share (T1) and the Existence Equilibrium Point of Employment Rate and Wages Share (T2). T1 achieves a stable node condition when ScQd+pi+et while T2 reaches a stable center condition when ScQd+pi+et. The simulation showed Goodwin's model of high- and low-skilled workers produced the ideal of Goodwin model cycle predictions, whereas Goodwin's model of medium-skilled workers and the entire economy (capitalist) didn’t produce the ideal of Goodwin model cycle predictions. Eventually, the effects of reducing the wage gap make the economy unstable.

SummaryThe Mental Capacity Act 2005 is a critical statute law for psychiatrists in England and Wales. Its best interests provision is fundamental to substitute decision-making for incapacitated adults. It prescribes a process of and gives structure to substitute decision-making. The participation of the incapacitated adult must be encouraged where practicable. In addition to this, ‘the best interests checklist’ must be applied in every case before a practitioner can arrive at a reasonable belief that the action or decision taken on behalf of an incapacitated adult is in his best interests. Most commentators have shown goodwill towards the workings of the Act and want it to succeed.

This paper aims to explain the causes of the 2018/2019 Argentinian crisis by means of a growth cycle model a la Goodwin, where the aggregate demand is wage-led, the wage-share is predatory of the external sector, and the financial norm stands as an exogenous apex-predator of both real wages and the current account. Its main results allow us to understand the stylized facts of the Argentinian economy: a higher financial norm increases inequality and required current account surpluses, reduces stability, and increases volatility and recessions length.

SummaryGoodwin's well-known growth cycle model has been rejected by Keynesians because it fails to take product disequilibria into account and gives rise to cycles which are much longer than observable business cycles. In the present article it is shown that cycles of much shorter duration can be obtained if the Goodwin model is modified by taking reactions to product market disequilibria into account. While shifts in income distribution between wages and profits remain the cycle maker, the modifications intensify the profit squeeze (and profit recovery) and thus speed up the cyclical process.

Streszczenie:
Some regions of the United Kingdom present more fertile grounds for consecutive incarnations of extreme right parties than others. In a study by Goodwin et al., the authors found evidence of the legacy effect, where an earlier cycle of activism by the National Front (NF), an extreme right political party active in the 1970s, emerged as a strong and significant predictor of membership in the British National Party (BNP) three decades later. While their study speaks to the supply-side arguments for extreme right success (organizational continuity and local cultural traditions in particular), here we examine whether a similar legacy effect can be observed with respect to demand for extreme right politics. As we are going to show there is some overlap between the share of votes cast for the NF and the BNP, yet there are a number of constituencies that do not adhere to this pattern. We conclude that while the supply-side legacy effect is not ruled out, the legacy effect hypothesis does not find support for demand-side explanation of extreme right support.

Ribeiro, Humberto Nuno Rito. "New business combinations accounting rules and the mergers and aquisitions activity". Thesis, De Montfort University, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/2086/4404.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
The perennial controversy in business combinations accounting and its dialectic with stakeholders’ interests under the complexity of the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) activity is the centrepiece of analysis in this thesis. It is argued here that the accounting regulation should be as neutral as possible for the economic activity, although it is recognised that accounting changes may result in economic effects. In the case of the changes for business combinations accounting in the USA, lobbying was so fierce that in order to achieve the abolition of accounting choice in M&A accounting, it forced the standard-setter to compromise and to change substantially some of its earlier proposals. Such fierce lobbying cast doubts about whether it was effectively possible to mitigate such economic effects, resulting in a possible impact of the accounting changes on the M&A activity. The occurrence of M&A in waves is yet to be fully theorised. Nevertheless, existing literature established relationships between M&A activity and some key economic and financial factors, and has provided several interesting theories and other meaningful contributions for this thesis. It was therefore possible to examine whether the changes in the accounting rules produced any significant impact on the M&A activity. The findings obtained from the testing of the research hypotheses suggest that the new M&A accounting rules did not result in significant impacts on overall M&A activity. Nevertheless, from the study of managers’ perceptions, and from the examination of annual reports of S&P 500 companies, a considerable impact on the financial reporting was found.

This chapter highlights the notion that began to spread throughout the system of non-profit agencies sometime during the middle of the 1990s, which purported to be helping workers with disabilities. It mentions Goodwill, which was one of the first national organizations to obtain a 14(c) subminimum wage certificate from the United States Department of Labor. The chapter reviews the abuses and neglect in Iowa at Henry's Turkey Service, including the financial exploitation, that brought closer scrutiny from disability advocates across the country. The chapter mentions Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind, who decided to arrange for the boycott of Goodwill over its use of subminimum wages. It considers Maurer as a force to be reckoned as he continued to play in the debate surrounding work, pay, and labor conditions for workers with disabilities during his time as National Federation of the Blind president.

On the construction site the enforcement of labor discipline is mostly based on personal whim. Rules are made up on the spot and punishments depend on the mood or the goodwill of individual Chinese foremen. This type of labor regime leads to a loss of managerial credibility and inspires indiscipline on the part of Ethiopian workers. Subversion can be subtle, expressed with humor and through play, but transgressions can also evolve into open defiance, such as work stoppages and labor strikes. Voting with their feet is yet another strategy that Ethiopian laborers employ to play one Chinese enterprise off against the other, forcing management to increase wages and improve employment conditions in the process. Taken together, these subversive acts challenge Chinese managers, so much so that they are disciplined by their own workers.

Abstract I believe that, in order to prove to them our interest, it would suffice to abolish all those measures which, whilst providing no benefit to the State, appear to be marks of contempt …By extending to the metics eligibility for tenure of all the reputable offices …we will increase their goodwill whilst adding to the strength and eminence of our country. Moreover, as we have within our walls numerous unoccupied sites, the State should allow those of them who so request, and who are considered most worthy, to own the land on which they have built: I believe that, in such circumstances, a far greater number of estimable foreigners will be attracted to Athens as a place of residence …It seems probable that all stateless persons would wish to establish themselves in our city, and so increase its revenues.

He walks down the hall toward you. You are the only two in the hallway. You look at him, ready to smile and offer a cheery “Good morning!” With eyes downcast, he walks by you as if you are not there. What is your reaction? • Indignation. “Who does he think he is, not bothering to even look at me?” • Irritation. “Why can’t he make the effort to say a simple hello?” • Superiority. “With such poor social skills, he shouldn’t even be a teacher.” • Meanness. Silently you smirk at his indifference, eager to tell co- workers about this perceived slight. • Affirmation. “I knew he didn’t like me, and since no one is around, he doesn’t even pretend!” • Anger. “How dare he act so superior!” It may be a challenge to interpret this scene as anything but snobbery or poor manners. Yet the same curiosity and compassion that help us determine what our students need in order to learn can serve us well with other adults. The illusion in this scenario is our belief that we know the reason for another’s behaviors. The pitfall of this conclusion is the missed opportunity to wonder with good intentions. The risk to professional relationships is the narrow labeling of another’s behaviors and personalizing their intent. Asking ourselves “What else could it be?” implies that we have the power and presence of mind to press the pause button to offer a broader palette of possibilities. • Is he preoccupied with an upcoming meeting? • Is he concerned about a loved one? • Is he mentally preparing for his first class? • Is he an introvert who is much more comfortable keeping to himself than offering easy banter or automatic greetings? Why not be your best by offering a warm greeting to him with no expectation for receiving one in return? When faced with puzzling behaviors, we can avoid jumping to conclusions. We can take a moment, have a second thought. This opening of possibility offers a moment of grace to ourselves and our co- workers. We choose to suspend judgment for the good of the moment and for nourishing goodwill in schools.

BackgroundCare recipients in care and welfare are increasingly presenting themselves with complex needs (Huber et al., 2016). An answer to this is the integrated organization of care and welfare in a way that personalized care is the measure (Topol, 2016). The reality, however, is that care and welfare are still mainly offered in a standardized, specialized and fragmented way. This imbalance between the need for care and the supply of care not only leads to under-treatment and over-treatment and thus to less (experienced) quality, but also entails the risk of mis-treatment, which means that patient safety is at stake (Berwick, 2005). It also leads to a reduction in the functioning of citizens and unnecessary healthcare cost (Olsson et al, 2009).Integrated CareIntegrated care is the by fellow human beings experienced smooth process of effective help, care and service provided by various disciplines in the zero line, the first line, the second line and the third line in healthcare and welfare, as close as possible (Ettema et al, 2018; Goodwin et al, 2015). Integrated care starts with an extensive assessment with the care recipient. Then the required care and services in the zero line, the first line, the second line and / or the third line are coordinated between different care providers. The care is then delivered to the person (fellow human) at home or as close as possible (Bruce and Parry, 2015; Evers and Paulus, 2015; Lewis, 2015; Spicer, 2015; Cringles, 2002).AimSupport societal participation, quality of live and reduce care demand and costs in people with complex care demands, through integration of healthcare and welfare servicesMethods (overview)1.
