Streszczenie:
Fool’s Gold is a collection of handmade books that illustrate selected Grimms’ fairy tales and offer an unexpected interpretation of the actions of the heroes. Each book displays a unique cover decoration, inspired by medieval European treasure bindings. Treasure bindings incorporate dimensional decorative elements such as gems, gold or other metalwork and often depict Christ's suffering. In a similar way, Fool's Gold beautifies the suffering of the protagonists using gold leaf, glass beads and lush illustrations. A traditional hidden fore-edge painting technique is used to reveal more scenes from each story. When the pages are fanned opened, the fore-edge paintings display the gruesome revenge the perceived heroes take upon the villains.

Streszczenie:
This thesis contributes to anthropological debates about tourism, transformation, and morality. It proposes the concept of tourismship to rethink identity in tourism and introduces the idea of moral work to understand people's repositioning in Poland and Germany, twenty-five years after the breakdown of socialism. A question that so far has been marginal in the academic discussion of post-socialist moralities concerns the relationship between being a moral person and living well. This research is situated in a popular tourism destination in the Northeast of Poland, where increasing inequality and social injustice are part of people's everyday experience. It is in tourism that people are confronted with the tensions between living well and being a moral person at the same time. In this thesis I argue that in tourism people find a space to address these tensions. The notion of moral work illuminates the diverse ways in which they engage with the tensions that ultimately concern the good life. Based on 13 months of participant observation and interviews in the Masurian Lake District, the moral debates of four ethnographic settings are explored: How to be a good host in rural Masuria? How to be a good sailing tourist in the "New Poland"? How to be a good German in Germany's former East? How to correctly engage with the materiality of a ruptured past? To understand the nature of these debates the concept of tourismship is introduced: tourismship transcends the host-guest binary and draws attention to the complex identity work done in tourism. It accommodates the multiple identities that are at stake in these touristic debates. This thesis provides extensive ethnographic insights into the reordering of post-socialist (tourism) societies in Masuria. It offers a fresh look at tourism in Europe as a changing set of cultural and social practises, the historical legacies of which extend into the present. Tourism as a setting for moral work makes us think about the ways in which people make sense of tourism experiences, and how they integrate those experiences into their social and cultural identities. Ideas of the good life, good tourism, and being moral person are shown to diverge, even in the very communities in which they are debated. Tourism in Masuria provides new insights into a broader social process of moral diversification and pluralisation across post-Cold War societies, showing that moral dilemmas run across society and do not only affect post-socialist but also former "Western" societies. Finally, this thesis shows that debates about morality and the good life in tourism must be seen in the context of emerging power relations and inequalities in these societies.

Streszczenie:
Rituals surrounding death were social in addition to being religious. Virginians conveyed the status of the deceased through funerals, burials, gravestones, commemoration, and mourning. But these customs greatly differed according to gender, both in what they consisted of and who was responsible for carrying them out. This thesis examines wills, diaries, correspondence, grave markers, prints, and newspapers of eighteenth-century Virginians, which demonstrate the differences in the death customs of men and women. Because of men’s involvement in public activities like business and politics, they gave greater forethought into how acts of remembrance would reflect their positions. Women’s duties were centered on the home and family. This resulted in less elaborate death customs as well as greater responsibility for appropriately attending to the remembrance of others. Despite the overwhelmingly private nature of women’s funerals and burials, gravestones, death notices, and the responsibilities of widowhood briefly brought women into the public realm.

Pidgeon, Michelle Elizabeth. "It takes more than good intentions : institutional accountability and responsibility to indigenous higher education". Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/2329.

Streszczenie:
An Indigenous wholistic framework is used to examine the question "what makes a university a successful place for Aboriginal students?" This study moves away from a student deficit discourse by critiquing universities from an Indigenous methodological and theoretical approach in terms of (a) how Indigenous knowledges were defined and found in universities and (b) how Indigenous understandings of success, responsibility, and accountability resonated in three universities in British Columbia, Canada. This research is grounded in Indigenous theory; however, social reproduction theory was used to explain power structures inherent in the mainstream educational system. The Indigenous research process involved a mixed methods approach. Approximately 60 interviews and four sharing circles were held with a total of 92 participants representing various stakeholders across the institution. In addition, the Undergraduate Baccalaureate Graduate Surveys (UBGS) were analyzed to contextualize Aboriginal undergraduate student experiences over the last 10 years. A major finding is that respectful relationships between Aboriginal stakeholders and university faculty and leaders are key to universities becoming more successful places for Aboriginal peoples. This study shows how Indigenous knowledges were present, as pockets of presence, in the academy in programs and through Indigenous faculty, staff, and students. As sites of Indigenous knowledges, First Nations Centres played a critical role by wholistically supporting the cultural integrity of Aboriginal students and being agents of change across the institution. Indigenous wholistic understandings of success challenged hegemonic definitions that emphasized intellectual capital to include the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms. Kirkness and Barnhardt's (1991) 4Rs were used to critically examine the responsibilities of universities to Aboriginal higher education. The following institutional responsibilities were presented: relationships, such as the seen face through Aboriginal presence, having authentic allies, involving Aboriginal communities, and enacting agency; reciprocity and relevance, which addresses issues of limited financial resources, increasing retention and recruitment, and putting words into action; and respect for Indigenous knowledges. Institutional accountability from the Indigenous framework went beyond neo-liberal discourses, to include making policy public, surveillance from inside and outside the institution, and the need for metrics and benchmarks.

Browning, Jimmy. "The Lost Tribalism of Years Gone By: Function & Variation in Gay Folklore in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City Novels". TopSCHOLAR®, 1992. https://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/2173.

Streszczenie:
This thesis intends to demonstrate that, because of the unusual circumstances of its writing - a semi-journalistic piece produced during a period of crisis in the real-life community fictionally depicted - Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series stands as an unusually accurate and reliable ethnographic source for information concerning the gay male subculture of San Francisco in the late 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, not only the practice and behavior themselves, but also reflecting their personal and communal function. The methodology employed in demonstrating this thesis is necessarily subjective. Like gay folklore scholar Joseph P. Goodwin in More Man Than You'll Ever Be, the seminal study of the folklore of gay men in the United States, I am a gay man, who, to some degree, draws on personal knowledge and observation to recognize and identify elements of gay folklore depicted in the fictional milieu I have chosen to study. This is unavoidable to an extent: ethnographic work within the gay communities has been limited by a number of factors, including the covert nature of the group, the biases of exoteric analysts, and the lack of observations informed by insiders' perspectives. Nonetheless, the groundwork that has been accomplished by Goodwin and a handful of other scholars provides an adequate basis for comparison between the "real" world, professional folk study, and the fictive domain of Armistead Maupin. In addition to an examination of gay oral folklore in the novels - including how gay oral tradition informs both the content of the novels and Maupin's authorial voice - this thesis also considers aspects of gay customary folklore and gay material culture, including how the content of the novels chronicles some of those folkloric forms and how the novels themselves have become a significant part of gay customary and material tradition. To a large degree, folklore functions in gay folk culture to encourage communication and cohesion and to divulge important psychological insights into the minds of many group members.

This production thesis utilizes an artistic-creative methodology through the workings of both heuristic and hermeneutical approaches to explore the function of story—how we are told stories and how we retell them—throughout an individual’s life. Furthermore, this thesis examines their role and effect on the mental-emotional realm. Through the craft of creating her own personal fairy tale by way of active imagination, the author offers an example of working with archetypal images (common to the author as well as the collective) to come into contact with unconscious drives and shadow impulses, confront their intentions, and ultimately come to resolution over their tensions, resulting in psychological transformation. This thesis offers a look into the importance of play, the imaginal realm, and the endless nature of meaning making and their relationship to healing.

In this dissertation, I explore the experiences of immigrant (i.e. foreign-born) faculty in the U.S. academy, especially during a trying period of time—Donald Trump’s presidency—when anti-immigrant sentiments and rhetoric have heightened in America. Specifically, I explore how in the Trump era, gender, race, ethnic (national) origin, cultural background, and foreign-born status intersect to shape immigrant faculty’s experiences at the individual, interpersonal, and organizational level, including the privileges they enjoy and/or the penalties they pay based on their multiple social locations and ethnic culture—a group occasionally studied. Finally, I explore how the organizational and departmental culture of diversity enables the faculty to make sense of their overall satisfaction and/or stress at work—rarely considered. Overall, the goal of this study is to understand how different social identities, cultural background, and immigrant status intersect to shape the professional and social standing of a highly skilled group of immigrant professionals in a foreign country and especially in a high-status occupation, such as professorship. Most importantly, this study attempts to understand how structural inequalities are produced and reinforced in the academy that is supposedly a haven for social consciousness and ethical conduct. For the purpose of my study, I conducted 66 in-depth interviews with immigrant faculty, search committee members, administrators (department chairs, interim directors of programs, college deans, and chancellors), and administrative personnel (staff members of Affirmative Action, Equity and Compliance, and Human Resources) at a large public university in the rural Midwest. I also conducted approximately 42 hours of observations in the faculty meetings and class lectures that my immigrant participants attended and delivered respectively. I noted faculty-faculty and faculty-student interactions, including their verbal and non-verbal exchanges. I used an intersectional lens grounded in the theories on tokenism to analyze my findings. Two overarching themes emerged in the data. The first one reveals the stereotypes (negative as well as positive), performance pressures, and professional marginalization my immigrant participants encounter at work. The second one shows that cultural contrasts result in my immigrant participants’ ethnic othering or exoticization at work, as well as heighten boundaries between them and their U.S.-born colleagues and students. These, in turn, affect my participants’ legitimacy, interpersonal communications, productivity, and career growth in the academy. Overall, I conclude that immigrant faculty are cultural tokens—held up against local hegemonic gendered and ethnic norms and racial stereotypes—in the U.S. academy, whose tokenization—scrutiny, performance pressures, and isolation—is shaped by their multiple social locations, cultural background, and the organizational and departmental culture of diversity. Lastly, keeping my study findings in mind, I make recommendations for diversity and inclusion in higher education in order to prevent women and racial and ethnic minorities from becoming tokens at work.

Marasso, Anna <1990&gt. "Ashes of Gold loss of innocence and rites of passage: selected tales from 1950's Hollywood rebels to 1960's youth gangs". Master's Degree Thesis, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10579/5894.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
The title of my dissertation “Ashes of Gold” derives from Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” . The poem is mentioned in “The Outsiders”, and the protagonists, Johnny and Ponyboy, speculate about its meaning. In the middle of such problematic lives, every character deals with his coming of age, and how can you “stay gold” when you are a rebel? My intention is, therefore, to build a bridge between the traditional Hollywood teenage-rebel forefathers in American cinema( “The Wild One”, “Rebel Without a Cause”, “Blackboard Jungle”), and some selected later works which involve group/gang processes that tend to complicate the theme of “staying gold” even more (“West Side Story”, “The Outsiders”, “The Warriors”). I intend to discuss topics related to the loss of innocence and the entrance into adulthood, to trace what it means to be a man and, at the same time, preserve one’s “goldness”: some of the characters manage to do it while others turn to ashes. In this case, death and redemption will be discussion matters, too. Some space will be paid to the interaction between the main characters and the surroundings they live in, from the general setting of the city to personal and specific places (and non-places), in order to understand in which way such backgrounds contribute to one’s personal growth. Moreover, a chapter will be dedicated to the relationship between the rebel and the Other, in a way that examines the causes of external conflicts and inner distress in which the protagonist is involved. Apart from gangs, rumbles and machismo, I intend to say something about female counterparts in the chosen movies: girls’ attitude towards such male-centered realities, the way in which they pursue their personal aspirations, their roles according to males’ expectations and how they relate to the “staying gold” parameter. The whole analysis will follow a path which mainly makes references to the movies, but it is my intention to support my considerations with excerpts from the above mentioned novels and a selected bibliography.

Have you ever listened to a speech, seriously attempted to discern the speaker’s message, then realize you have forgotten most of, if not, the entire message moments after the speech is finished? Far too often audiences sit through a presentation focusing as best as they can, only to have the speaker craft a message in a way that is nearly impossible for the audience to remember. The best speakers not only deliver a memorable message, but also one that inspires their audience to action or change of mindset. Speakers at Ted Conferences are faced with a difficult challenge: they are given roughly 20 minutes to deliver a speech that is both unforgettable and inspiring. This thesis will examine how to craft speeches that are both memorable and inspiring.

Streszczenie:
This thesis explores the conflicting and polarising nature of contemporary motherhood, whereby tactics of surveillance and monitoring generate internalised anxieties surrounding the achievement of “good” motherhood. Through a textual analysis framework, this thesis examines the capacity for televisual texts to intervene in and provide a commentary on, the cultural conversations surrounding the regulation of mothering practices and the kinds of subjectivities women can inhabit in 21st century America. The heightened politicisation of women’s bodies in the United States and its intersecting relationship with motherhood is examined through Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (2017 –) and HBO’s Big Little Lies (2017 –). Although the texts are generically very different, with one being a dystopian drama and the other a realistic suburban “whodunnit”, I argue that both texts represent a complex engagement with the central female characters who come to understand their selves within, and outside of, their role as mothers. I also examine the characters’ everyday feminine entanglements with violence and trauma that invoke a collective act of consciousness raising between the female characters as well as from the audience. In my analysis of both texts, I draw extensively on Adrienne Rich’s (1976) definition of motherhood as a patriarchal institution, its potentially empowering qualities and the dichotomy of motherhood as a site of both love and anger, as well as Susan J. Douglas and Meredith W. Michaels’ (2005) theory of “The New Momism” and the postfeminist trope of “having it all”. I argue that the changing landscape of production, access and distribution, allows for television to re-orient the male gaze, challenge dominant, limiting narratives about motherhood as well as providing a platform for female characters to “speak back to” traditional representations of women, and their role as mothers on screen.

Oil is central to our lives and is the source of many of the conveniences that we take for granted. It can bring wealth and prosperity to individuals and to nations, but is also a source of political conflict and the consequences of its impact on the environment are only now beginning to be fully recognised. The oil companies have been leaders in the development of marketing and branding and this thesis traces the history of the oil industry and analyses the different forms of print advertisements that its major companies have produced over a period of some hundred years, from the industry’s infancy until 2012. It takes a cultural semiotic perspective to investigate and reveal the ways in which the companies have adapted their advertising messages to the prevailing socio-political conditions to reflect current attitudes and to guide both public opinion and national policy. The analyses demonstrate how the companies have responded to different crises and to increasing globalisation and how they have engineered a shift from product to presence and from oil to energy to communicate a more environment-friendly image. A close reading of the advertisements produced by the companies shows how they have cast themselves in the mythical role of the indefatigable hero whose mission is the common good. Moreover, it uncovers the different heroic personalities that they have acquired and adopted over time to differentiate their products and services.

This study deals with the question of the tax planning, more specifically, on the use by the Treasury of good faith and the theory of abuse of rights as grounds for barring the tax planning prepared by the taxpayer. This is because in the absence of specific legislation to regulate the issue, raised the hypothesis of good faith being used by the Treasury, as a criterion to be evaluated when it chooses to characterize as abusive the act or business prepared by the taxpayer with the intention to pay less tax. For this, initially drew up a history of good faith, since its inception, with the bona-fides, considered the origin of the principle, through its relationship with the theory of abuse of rights to its application to public law. Complementing the study analyzes the institute of tax planning, its concept, its phases, as well as its relation to comparative law, discussing how such orders have been fighting the plan considered abusive. Delimited these respects, treated the CARF, the second instance organ, responsible for the administrative trial on federal tax harvest, discussing various aspects of this, including administrative activism today, the issue of Provisional Measure No. 685 and finally the analysis of five judgments delivered by this body, aiming thus offer through an academic contribution, a better understanding of the legal phenomenon, making it possible to check whether there is coherence and uniformity in the decisions of this body, thus contributing, for greater security in relationships, enabling the protection of the rights of taxpayers. Evaluating decisions, we can see that the need for a tax extra motivation to perform the act or business becomes, in fact, the criteria chosen by CARF to approve or consider abusive planning presented by the taxpayer and not the analysis of the presence or not of good faith when performing the act or business.

The purpose of this study is to address the way in which several quite varied and often commodified representations of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) express and reproduce shifting notions of national identity within American culture across the twentieth century and at the beginning of our own. This thesis pursues the question of national identity that the American myth perpetuates throughout the twentieth century and examines the shift in citizenship through representations found in popular culture’s re-writings of the Wizard of Oz tale. This thesis evaluates both original and contemporary adaptations of the Oz story and their deconstruction for sociohistorical representations of racial, gendered, class, and national identity. I argue, that the numerous historical and ideological comparisons from the Oz tale reflect our own world in our discussions of identity, race, class, and gender and have become significant reflections of our own imaginations and national identity.

This dissertation aims to study three very important works in English children&rsquo
s fiction: C. S. Lewis&rsquo
s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Philip Pullman&rsquo
s The Subtle Knife, the second book of his trilogy His Dark Materials, and J. K. Rowling&rsquo
s Harry Potter and the Philosopher&rsquo
s Stone. The novels will be analyzed in terms of their approaches toward the conventions of fairy tale, fantasy and romance
to this end, the novels are to be evaluated in relation to their concept of chronotope, and the quest of good versus evil. While the secondary world or multiple worlds presented are going to be analyzed in terms of their perception of time and space along with the presentation of the supernatural elements, the characters will be evaluated in terms of the common classification good versus evil. The main argument of this study concentrates on the gradual estrangement from the crystal clear distinctions of the fairy tale genre to a more shadowy, pessimistic, and ambivalent vision of the fantastic in the children&rsquo
s literature.

The ecological heritage, as well as other goods of collective ownership corresponding to human rights, became liable of commercialization in the neoliberal context. The environment, integrant good of the list of fundamental rights and duties provided by the Constitution of 1988, is a common use of everyone, directed to the satisfaction of the most elementary needs related to life and dignity. In this perspective, the theme of carbon credits refers to the geopolitis theme of funds, which is the conflict between the via of privatization of natural resources and the via of protection of the environment as a common heritage. This way, upon the analytical theoretical directing based on the dialectical method and on the methodology denominated analysis of content, it was searched to answer the research questions: Do the mechanisms of clean development and the carbon credit commerce constitute a structural arrangement of the State? And, still, such mechanisms offer, since their creation, an important or indispensable contribution for the control of climate changes, about to be taken as a sufficient measure of environmental preservation on this slope? In a few words, what are the advantages and limitations of these mechanisms since the juridical point of view, considering its efficacy potential? Through the analysis of documents provenient from the meeting of the Cupola of Americas, allied to the appropriation of the theoretical and conceitual display of David Harvey, is intended to do the reading and interpretation of the conjuncture in which were created the mechanisms of clean development and the carbon credits, in order to offer elements to a critical academic analysis of the political-juridic problem of climate changes.

And what role did the school have in Child Welfare work and whatmotivated this? The theoretical approaches are Foucaults theories of power, control anddisciplining. It appears from the study that the school and child welfare authorities had a close cooperationwith the purpose to control the upbringing and disciplining of the children. It was through theupbringing that the deviant child would become a "normal", docile and good, industriouscitizen. The school, as well as the board, had to shoulder a part of the upbringing when theparents skills in their upbringing of the children was questioned by society. This study can hopefully provide knowledge and understanding of our social history, it mayhelp us to understand the great changes that have occurred and what is still unchanged.

This study is about the artist Monica Sjoo’s (1938-2005) painting God giving birth (1968) that was accused of being blasphemous and obscene in the early 1970s. God giving birth could have had much in common with Niki de Saint-Phalle’s She – a cathedral (1966), both works suggesting a mother goddess image. The main difference however can be found in the fact that Monica Sjoo’s painting had connection to the women’s movement in the 1970s. Monica Sjoo’s artwork responded to other feminist artwork of that period. Among several feminist artists during the period about 1968-1985, an iconography was in use that focused on vulvar imagery, experience of childbirth and goddess images. In particulary the mother goddess was embraced. The female body in art was re-sacred and invested with meaning connected with women’s cycles of birth-death and rebirth and the earth as a mother goddess.

The purpose of this Master Thesis is to compare two American novel suites for young women, Louisa May Alcott‟s Little Women and Good Wives to Ann Brashares series of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The social status of women and children in the US during the 19th century is analyzed and compared historically and literary with the situation 130 years later. The main question is, what differences exist in the books and is there a connection between the changes in society and literature? The method of this Master Thesis is to make a comparative narratological analysis placed in a historical context. The result shows that the multiple character remains and enhances the identification process. Motherhood in the works of Alcott is prominent, whereas in the works of Brashares, sisterhood replaces motherhood. In Alcott‟s US during the 19th century, Christian faith was in the foreground. The goal for girls was the holy matrimony, followed by the sanctuary of heaven. Brashares depicts, in the 21st century, self-fulfilment to be aspired on earth. The strength of Alcott‟s portrayed sisterhood is weakened when marriage is consumed. In Brashares works, the love relationships are no longer the sole purpose of life and consequently not a competitor to the sisterly friendship.

The Bronx Cocked Back And Smoking is a collection of multifarious prose performances recounting the historical, personal, social, political and cultural constructs of a city birthed by violence. This body of work is accompanied by video, audio, photography, and theatre performance texts. St. Mary’s Housing project, in the Bronx, is the foundation where most of this literary work takes place. The modern day Griot (storyteller) is a Poet, guiding his audience through the social inequalities and disparities that plague St. Mary’s community. The Poet shares personal traumatic insights while simultaneously utilizing writing as a form of survival to the conditions of the Bronx. This multi-platform performance highlights the metaphorical and physical concerns with the cycle of violence. This question is answered through the Poet’s choice by selecting the pen over the gun.

This work provides a solid theoretical base on philanthropy, religious giving (Islamic zakat, ‘ushour, Waqf -plural: awqaf-, Sadaqa and Christian tithes or ‘ushour), and their implications on giving trends, development work, social justice philanthropy. The field study (quantitative and qualitative) that supports the theoretical framework reflects at a national level the Egyptian public’s perceptions on philanthropy, social justice, human rights, giving and volunteering and other concepts that determine the peoples’ civic engagement. The statistics cover 2000 households, 200 Civil Society Organizations distributed all over Egypt and interviews donors, recipients, religious people and other stakeholders. The numbers reflect philanthropic trends and for the first time provide a monetary estimate of local philanthropy of over USD 1 Billion annually. The survey proves that the per capita share of philanthropy outweighs the per capita share of foreign economic assistance to Egypt, which implies the significance of local giving if properly channeled, and not as it is actually consumed in the vicious circle of ad-hoc, person to person charity. In addition, the study relates local giving mechanisms derived from religion and culture to modern actual structures, like community foundations or community waqf that could bring about sustainable change in the communities. In sum, the work provides a comprehensive scientific base to help understand- and build on local philanthropy in Egypt. It explores the role that local individual giving could play in achieving sustainable development and building a new wave of community foundations not only in Egypt but in the Arab region at large. As a tangible result of this thesis, an innovative model that revives the concept of waqf and builds on the study’s results was created by the researcher and a dedicated board of trustees who succeeded in establishing Waqfeyat al Maadi Community Foundation (WMCF) that not only introduces the community foundation model to Egypt, but revives and modernizes the waqf as a practical authentic philanthropic structure.

We depend everything on lands. All our activities, including foods, clothing, houses, and moving, connect to it tightly. Even wealth which people care a lot comes from lands. Therefore, believing in an earth god shifts from the highest god of the earth to be personated that closes to our life. Even more, whoever contributed to the society could become an earth god. The ancestors of Taiwanese went through risks and came to Taiwan from China. For the security of their lives and properties, they brought their earth gods from their mother land. Although the rank of an earth god is not the same as it was, he earns our hearts. While an earth god interacted with people, it happened that an earth god did miracles to them. These miracles which became stories spread among persons. Every story has its own profound lesson to people. Hoping by studying these stories, we can understanding the influence and image of an earth god.

The purpose of this study is to explore a female tour guide’s interpretation for children at the DaLongDong BaoAn Temple in Taipei. A qualitative approach based on participant observations, interviews, and documentary analysis was taken to collect the data concerned about her interpretive practice on site in order to analyze the content and skills that had been deployed and its relation to her prior experience and knowledge, personal characters, and learning style. The results showed that the senior tour guide’s interpretation for children consisted of fairy tales, legends, and historical stories that were related to the Spirits of God and the architecture and artifacts of Temple. She conveyed messages regarding ethics and morality by combining the history with current social issues and ultimately association with children’s experiences. Furthermore, a variety of interpretation skills were used, such as role-playing, first-person storytelling, problem-posing and language and concepts were familiar with children. Moreover, she demonstrated a suitable management of the crisis and adapting to the audience. These effective strategies showed that children were encouraged to participate in interaction and come to better understanding the heritage. Analysis revealed that the characteristics of the tour-guide were categorized as having warm personality, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment, and integrating prior experience, loving for learning and sharing knowledge, and hold positive attitude for being a tour guide. Also, she had been willing to face challenges and to conduct an exciting role of interpretation. Finally, the positive feedback from audience has been the main force that kept driving the tour guide to devote herself in the profession; even she has been in a volunteering position for 15 years.

It is said that art creating should be combined with the daily life. However, it means not only to understand more about the phenomena in the society but also to seize the psychologies from these phenomena. That is the aim of the series of creations and paintings. Moreover, so-called self-art creations do not generate from the fixed thoughts or consciousness, whereas they are from the social psychologies (Taiwanese subculture) which are the real self-reflections of the society. This essay is analyzed by Text Analysis to present that in order to satisfy their physical and mental needs, some specific groups would develop their own set of customs and thoughts. These customs may not be relevant with the main culture in the society. They are even considered as weird symbols and separated with the main groups. As a result, the study will be divided into four sections. The first part is the theoretical construction: attempting to understand some specific groups how to work on their goals and what their characters are in Taiwanese sub-culture so far from the references, books and self-experiences. In addition, the aim of the essay will be constructed by the researches and analysis of Psychology of Art in the end. Secondly, the proofs from the creations: after analyzing the references, the concepts will be completely revealed by the self points of view, the applications and combinations of images from various cultures. Furthermore, the other goal is to build a bridge so that different people would be able to interact and communicate with different ages of a culture. Thirdly, the records of Painting materials science: the main concepts will be displayed clearly through the creating paintings and the specific materials according to the logic of physical process. At the last part is conclusion: this essay and the accomplishment of the art works do not mean the destination of the creation. The idea of this culture will be studied further in the future.

Streszczenie:
The book of Revelation is a book that has continually received attention from many who have studied it. Many different views have been expressed on it. There are areas where there are agreements on some issues, while there are also other areas where there are disagreements. Among those areas where there are agreements concerning the book of Revelation are the following : that this book is an Apocalypse, it is a letter from the seer to the people who were experiencing a crisis and it is also a prophecy. As an Apocalypse, it involves visions of two types namely : symbolic visions and visions of heavenly beings. As apocalyptic writing it deals with the ideology that existed within a particular society. It seeks to balance the situation which has become unbearable to those who live within that society in crisis. In its attempts to re-dress the imbalance, it engages the hearer/reader in an intellectual battle rather than a physical one in order to get out of the undesirable condition. Its letter form makes it to communicate its message in an understandable way to the hearer/reader because its message is directed to a specific people at a specific place at a specific time. This status makes it real to the people of all times. As a Prophecy, it is prophesying into the present needs of a community in order for both the present and the future to be meaningful to the living community in crisis. To date there is no common date which all researchers agree upon as the date of writing of this book. Some hold the view that this book was written between 64 and 70 AD while others hold the view that it was written between 81 and 96 AD. I hold the view that Revelation was written between 81 and 96 AD because of the internal evidence in the book itself. The Book of Revelation uses mostly symbolic language in expressing its message. This is the author’s chosen method in order to express the heavenly message given to him in a way that earthly beings could be able to understand and make sense of it. Without the symbolic language, the message would be almost impossible to express to humans because of its mysterious nature. Symbols in Revelation are so powerful “…that it is impossible to find absolute realities behind each symbol” Du Rand ( 1994 : 254 ). Some scholars argue that the strength of the Book of Revelation does not lie in its theological meaning nor its historical information but rather in the evocative, persuasive power of its symbolic language which compels imaginative participation by the hearer/reader. The Book of Revelation came into existence because of the crisis situation that existed within the Johannine community at that time. Schussler Fiorenza calls this a ‘perceived crisis’. In that situation, life had become meaningless to the members of that community because of the oppressive system which was practiced on them. The author seeks to help the hearer/reader to deal with the situation in a way that will bring honour to God. The Christians in the first century were faced with challenges from both within and outside the Church. From within the, there were those Christians who were beginning to live an unacceptable moral life. From outside the Church there were those who were bringing wrong teachings into the Church. These challenges were causing some of the Christians to become unfaithful to God. There was pressure exerted upon the Christians to do what was contrary to their faith in order to be acceptable to their non-Christian counterparts. Such pressure was not necessarily verbal nor official. The seer was writing to encourage the members of that community to remain faithful to their God and refuse to be affected by these challenges. The author of the Book of Revelation wrote specific letters to the seven different Churches to address the specific situations that existed then within the Churches in Asia Minor. These seven Churches are understood to be representative of the Church as a whole today. In all these different Churches, the author exhorts the Believers to fight for the cause of their faith to the bitter end, whatever it may cost them. They are called upon to focus their minds on overcoming, even if it meant death for them. They were to see martyrdom as victory. Those who were to overcome these challenges were going to receive their rewards from their Master. The Book of Revelation makes it very clear to the Christians that opposition is facing them at all times because their Master was also opposed while He was still in the world. They are therefore called upon to be His witnesses throughout their lives. It is this witnessing for Jesus Christ which would bring them into conflict with their opponents. The picture of how the Church is going to be treated by the world is provided in the story of the two witnesses. The witnesses are given power to witness for Jesus Christ for a limited period on earth. During that predetermined period, God protects them from any kind of harm from the Devil. Even when the Devil wants to harm them he is unable to do so. At the end of this period, God removes His hand of protection upon them. It is at this moment that the enemy attacks them and kills them. The Church’s witness is therefore only for a limited period in this world. The Church will be hated because Jesus Christ was hated by the world too. During the Church’s period of witness, she is fully protected by God, nothing can harm her, no matter what happens. But after the Church shall have completed her witnessing task, God will remove His hand of protection from her and the enemy will attack the Church. The enemy’s attack on the Church will be so severe that it will look like it has been defeated by the Devil for a little while. During the period of ‘apparent defeat’, the world will rejoice over the ineffectiveness of the Church. The reason for that is because the Church’s message of sin and judgement has been tormenting the inhabitants of the earth. This points to the fact that the preaching of the true message of the Gospel offends the non - repenting opponents of God. After God’s own predetermined time has passed, God will instill new power and life into His Church. The Church will come to life again, and this to the surprise of the enemy. In the midst of all this, God is actively present in every situation which His Church finds itself in. All that happens to and through His Church is in accordance with God’s salvific plan. God allows whatever he wants to allow to happen in order for Him to demonstrate His power over His Creation. Included in God’s plan is that He will not let His opponents go unpunished. All those who oppose Him are going to be judged when the time comes. God will destroy the Devil and all his followers. However, nothing will force God to change His plans, not even the cries of His saints. The unbelieving inhabitants of the earth are given enough time to repent in order to escape God’s wrath. Victory is promised to all those who follow the Lamb, provided they remain faithful to their calling. From God’s side, the protection of their faith is guaranteed, hence they are called upon to actively witness without fear. After victory has been attained, whether through martyrdom or otherwise, all the victors will be rewarded by living permanently with the Lamb in the new heaven. God’s Church cannot be defeated, after everything has been said and done, the Church will come out the victor.

Abstract This research report attempts to examine how the story of gold, and gold mining, is told, and is being retold, at both the Victorian- themed Gold Reef City theme park and in within the Main Street mining precinct in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD). The report will therefore look at how imbued ideologies have resulted in a particular formation of the mining heritage shown in both themed spaces. Works by de Certeau (1988) and Eco (1990), for example, form a framework for academic discourse around practiced space within the ‘city’, and the nature of hyperreality. Overall, and including results from participant observation at the theme park, and sample surveys undertaken in the Main Street precinct, one is able to better attempt an understanding of how the story of gold at both sites has been created by certain ideologies, and examine them in light Johannesburg’s changing persona in light of global influences.

The subject of our master’s dissertation is: The Principle of Good Faith in Tax Benefits. In the first chapters, we analyze and explain how this principle manifests itself in the different branches of Law, emphasizing in Tax Law. After, a jurisprudential and critical analysis is made – where we added another part of our theme: tax benefits. As our main focus is the VAT exemptions, it's important to dedicate a small chapter explaining the concept and its different types. We also analyze another part of the tax payment (in case, its lack) – compensatory interests and late payment interest referring to indemnity. With our dissertation we hope to contribute and enhance one of the most important principles of Portuguese jurisdiction. Despite being a principle of both parts in legal relationship, we highlight and try to explain the need for the protection of taxable person/taxpayers in the complex and technical world of tax. Lastly, we conclude our theme it’s not yet a well researched topic in the Portuguese legal doctrine. Therefore, it’s safe to say, this is a legal matter, not only of the present, but of the future of the legal world.

The core thesis is an attempt to contextual interpretation of fairy tales K. J. Erben from the perspective of theological anthropology. And in the context of the overall issue of fairy tales then they found values that can be picked up and interpreted in this way. Own interpretation precedes five theoretical chapters where first discuss the issue of fairy tales, their typology, origin and development. And about the specifics of time and formation by K. J. Erben. Homer and J. R. R. Tolkien become the inspiration for subsequent interpretation. Both works have been interpreted by Christian. Integrative and reconstructive theory and is shown in the interpretation of two great works of world literature. Odyssey, a work whose creation is not much known, is a model for integrative theory. The Lord of the Rings introduces reconstructive theory, because here it is the opposite. From the peculiar structure of the classic fairy tale, then based on its own interpretation. Its core is the study of the morphology of fairy V. J. Propp. Fairytale Firebird and Foxy Fox is an introduction to the interpretation of other fairy tales. First, its symbols are analyzed and presented in the context of the fairy happening. Later, finding the core at a time when there was not a fairy tale. And that its structure is given in connection with the initiation ritual. Consequently, there are elaborated some aspects of man: man as "soulful dust", sinner and image of God. Continuously to and in relation to other fairy tales, this topic is distributed to more general plane fatality, life, death, good and evil. Question the value is processed in the chapter on aesthetics and symbolism, with an emphasis on symbolism symbol, myth and ritual.

is study is composed of two units: manuscript of the author's publication Interpreting Ancient Egyptian Narratives: A Structural Analysis of the Tale of Two Brothers, the Anat Myth, the Osirian Cycle, and the Astarte Papyrus (Nouvelles études orientales, Bruxelles-Fernelmont: EME, 2014) and an additonal chapter entitled Accommodating Ambivalence: Case of the Doomed Prince and His Dog, which follows directly a er the Index of the first unit and which extends the applied methodology to yet another New Kingdom mythological narrative, the so-called Tale of the Doomed Prince. Methodologically, the author follows the neo-structuralist approach. Both studies explain the strong configurational character of ancient Egyptian (mythological) thought which has the ability to connect various ontological levels of human experience with the surrounding world into complex synchronic structures. ese symbolical systems are shown to be mediating between the various cultural paradoxes which were inherent to ancient Egyptian society. Axial role in this process is a ributed to the institution of positional kingship represented by the Pharaoh. Its transformative function is also put into relation to the special status of female characters who are shown to play the part of the "powerful powerless ones" further personifying...

This thesis is a collection of three articles on microeconomic theory. The first two articles are concerned with the issue of race-to-the-bottom when governments engage in competition for some mobile factor. The third article proposes an extension for the many-to-one matching problem by introducing different-size agents. In the first article, we show how the standard race-to-the-bottom result can be avoided by introducing public good into a tax competition model. Our economy has two jurisdictions populated by perfectly mobile workers divided into two categories: skilled and unskilled. Governments, in pursuit of a Rawlsian objective (max-min), simultaneously announce their plans for investing in public good before deploying a nonlinear income tax schedule. After observing the tax schedules of the governments and their promises to invest in public good, each worker chooses a place of residence and a supply of labour. Thus, governments achieve their redistribution objectives by seeking to attract productive labour through the provision of public goods in addition to favorable taxation policy. We show that there exist equilibria where skilled workers pay a strictly positive tax. In addition, when information on the type of workers is private, there are equilibria for certain parameter values in which unqualified workers receive a net transfer (or subsidy) from the government. In the second article, we investigate how the Bertrand standard price competition with differentiated products could provide useful insight for Citizenship By Investment programs in the Caribbean. We show that when countries can be classified into two types according to the size of their demand, imposing appropriate uniform minimum price and maximum quota brings countries to an efficient outcome that Pareto dominates the Non-Cooperative Nash Equilibrium. Finally. in the third article, we explore an extension of the standard many-to-one matching problem by incorporating different-size agents (refugee families) on the many side of the market, to be assigned to entities (homes) with different capacities on the other side. A specific feature of this model is that it does not allow refugee families to be split between several homes. It is well known that many of the desirable properties of matching rules are unachievable in this framework. We introduce size-monotonic priority ranking over refugee families for each home, that is, a host family (home) would always prefer a greater number of members of refugee families until its capacity constraint binds. We show that a pairwise stable matching always exists under this assumption and we propose a mechanism to find it. We show that our mechanism is strategy-proof for refugees: no refugee family could benefit from misrepresenting his preferences. Our mechanism is also refugees optimal pairwise stable in the sense that there is no other pairwise stable mechanism that would be more profitable to all refugees.
