Streszczenie:
The aim of presented article is to introduce the phenomenon of glocalisation, insufficiently studied, at least in Polish linguistics. This phenomenon belongs to the latest processes of modern entrepreneurship. Glocalisation has been shifted from economic to social studies. Works in the field of economics and broadly defined trade bring a thorough analysis of this issue. The author of this article attempts to systematise the understanding of glocalisation, as developed by scholars representing, apart from linguistics, such fields as: sociology, political science, and cultural anthropology. Including the works of scholars in a variety of disciplines is necessary in this case, due to the special features of the term glocalisation. It is representative of the latest professional vocabulary that has reached the Polish Language with a wave of borrowings associated with the globalisation processes. Some researchers treat glocalisation symbolically as the reverse of globalisation; glocalisation = globalisation + local. Nowadays, linguists increasingly frequently have to refer to the experiences and achievements of scholars from often very distant, seemingly disconnected, fields when describing new varieties of language and new phenomena. This type of extensive cooperation eventually allows achieving a broad research perspective, which is so often postulated in modern science.

This article is a qualitative descriptive study that examines South Korean and East Africa Audio-visual production and distribution policies and regulations. Through analysing the results of in-depth interviews with audio-visual (broadcast) policymakers, content producers, and audiovisual business owners, this study found that South Korea reviewed regulations and policies that were protectionist in nature to more open and collaborative policies that were in tune with the digital broadcast environment. It recommended that to create successful broadcast industries, developing countries should review their broadcast policies and regulations to be in tandem with digital and media convergence environment as well as give audio-visual industry prominence by establishing ministries that deals with broadcast-related issues to promote locally, to produce content internationally, and also to source for collaboration between local and international producers.

This article explores the relationship between ‘glocalisation’ and the formation of national identity in Christine S. Bellen's picturebook retellings of four Philippine fairy tales from the Mga Kwento ni Lola Basyang [Tales of Grandmother Basyang] series by Severino Reyes. ‘Glocalisation’ is an effect of globalisation and exists in the dialectic between global phenomenon and local culture, resulting in a dynamic glocal identity. The choice to explore glocal phenomenon in Bellen's picture books comes from the likelihood of these being some of the child's first experiences of glocal literature as well as the fact that the tales carry on a tradition of appropriation and re-creation. Bellen's retellings shift the fairy tales from post-colonial texts to glocal texts and, by grounding global signs on local significance, give voice to the glocal Filipino child.

Our aim in this paper is to explain the international strategies of cities by focusing on market conditions. Drawing on a critique of the glocalisation thesis we show that the design of these strategies can plausibly be explained by the specific characteristics of urban capitalism found in the different cities. Whereas the international strategy of Manchester must be seen as a response to problems of postindustrial restrictions, the importance of the logistic sector in Dutch capitalism strongly shapes Amsterdam's strategy. In Zurich, though, it is argued that the city was already very well prepared for the transformation towards a post-Fordist regime, and so did not need any strategy at all. We conclude that varieties of glocalisation trajectories are a major factor driving and shaping the characteristics of international urban strategies.

The essay considers the problem of the influence of postmodernism, within which two cultural paradigms, i.e. globalisation and glocalisation, were formed, on the national art of composers. The confrontation between the trends of globalisation and glocalisation that emerged in the late XX century correlates with the new “innovative – traditional” opposition reflected in modern national cultures, which has the potential for conflict and therefore requires finding a way to overcome the oppositivity of cultures. As a result, the researcher substantiates two ways to solve the indicated problem: the heterogeneous system of a national composer’s style can react to the general postmodern process either by confrontation of universally European and locally ethnic tendencies or by their mediation, which implies that composers search for and find a way for these tendencies to coexist without contradiction.

Abstract The article, based on the Hindi short stories of S.R. Harnoṭ, focuses on the transformation of villages in an age of globalisation. The setting of the stories is the mountain villages of Himachal Pradesh, and, in a few instances, Shimla, also a mountain location. The article is divided into two sections. The first is an overview of the stories, the second covers two main themes: the arrogance of power and the distortions generated from its abuse, and the effects of glocalisation and the end of the social produced by technological progress, which cuts off direct contact between human beings. The two themes merge in a single discussion in the conclusion through the unifying element of nature, an ever-present theme that is at times explicit, at times implied. Throughout the analysis three terms have been used to highlight the changes in village life: modernisation, glocalisation and globalisation.

Streszczenie:
ABSTRACT: Our interest in studying the glocalizing practices adopted by some African writers, who wanted their products to be disseminated and received around the world, is motivated by three main reasons. A first reason is that many writers use appropriate literary techniques to make their work more accessible to an international audience while retaining local cultural elements. The second is related to the way the literary themes and motifs have been adapted and modified according to the different audiences in order to be able to meet the various objectives. The third is conceptual, cultural and ideological, especially concerning global issues and challenges such as globalization, humanitarian, health and ecological crises, universal and local values. We assume that It's the sun that burned me by Calixthe Beyala and A companion to men by Véronique Tadjo constitute a relevant and sufficiently large corpus that should allow us to explore the issue.

This paper aims to describe the glocalisation phenomena of English expressions found on minivans as a means of public transport in Kupang city of Indonesia. This is a linguistic landscape study. The use of English on public minivans is an easily observable thing for people of Kupang because, basically, the public vehicles in Kupang are attractively designed with a lot of symbolic and linguistic objects. The data in this study were collected through picture-taking techniques and interviews. The data were analysed using an interdisciplinary approach under linguistics studies. Results show that English use on public minivans is predominantly characterized by language errors (38%) and variations (62%). The high percentage of language errors and variations on the minivans probably indicates both low English proficiency among those involved in the transportation business and Kupang people as a creative but careless society. Moreover, the appearance of the English expressions serves a number of functions such as English attractiveness, Pragmatics, Social criticism, fashionability, customers’ ease with vehicles’ identification, and religiosity. Although English in this domain shows a typical style developed by Kupang people, for a number of reasons, it cannot be assumed as a new English variety that is coming into existence.

The study examines Roşia Montană inhabitants' opinions, attitudes and the "mutations" of the representations generated by Roşia Montană Gold Corporations' retrenchment of economic activity. Our hypothesis is that the retrenchment of activities and the ensuing layoffs are the result of the wrong choice of globalisation strategy that the company attempted in 2013 rather than continuing the glocalisation strategy which proved successful up to that point. The study presents the main themes of a 2014 qualitative research survey namely: 1) the rift between the private and the public opinions on the merits of the mining project; 2) inhabitants' representations of the distinction between the classic (underground) mining methodology perceived as "true mining" and the modern open pit approach perceived as "fake mining"; 3) inhabitants' opinions on the sustainability v. jobs dichotomy; 4)representations on the need for temporary employment to fill the gap until the recommencement of mining activity; 5) the perceptions on the possibility of returning to previously owned properties should the project fail to ever launch again. The general conclusion is that a switchback to the glocalisation strategy would result in benefits for both the Roşia Montană Gold Corporation and for the local community which is at risk of becoming uncertain, already finding itself in a precarious quality-of-life situation.

Streszczenie:
This article investigates the variety of factors that hinder the implementation of play (as defined by western scholars) in Asian preschools. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of policy borrowing, enactment and glocalisation, we analyse three jurisdictions that illustrate distinctive problematics: India, Mainland China and Hong Kong. The methodology involves a bibliographic review. Each jurisdiction is presented as a narrative portrait, including key sociocultural characteristics, features of early childhood education system, role of play in government policies, and teachers’ beliefs and practices pertaining to play. The findings show that the distinctive factors hindering play relate to societal mindsets in India, a lack of curriculum clarity in China, and structural factors and parental pressures in Hong Kong. Common hurdles include a high societal emphasis on academic learning, lack of information on how play should contribute to achieve curriculum outcomes, and insufficient teacher preparation. The authors show that play is neither adequately defined nor justified in some Asian policy frameworks, and argue that play might not be viable in certain preschools (especially in half-day programmes). An alternative glocal notion is proposed – child-led activities – which would be less conceptually problematic and more culturally appropriate. The study highlights the need for the glocalisation of Asian early childhood education systems.

When applied to Pentecostalism in Zimbabwe, the concept of cultural hybridity provides a framework for understanding how global religious movements can adapt to and incorporate local cultural elements. This process results in a unique form of religious expression characterised by convergence and syncretism, reflecting cultural and religious identity’s dynamic and fluid nature. This hybridity in religious practice is a testament to the ongoing, interactive cultural exchange and adaptation process. This article delves into the intricate cultural hybridity, convergence, glocalisation and syncretic tendencies within the characteristic features of New Religious Movements (NRMs) in Harare, Zimbabwe, illuminating their multifaceted role in addressing spiritual and material needs. Through a comprehensive exploration of selected NRMs that emerged from the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe, including Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries and Grace Oasis Ministries, this article unravels the central role of prophets and pastors in shaping the fundamental ethos of these religious entities. A striking and thought-provoking parallel emerges between the hallmark features of these NRMs and the tenets of African Traditional Religion and many other religious traditions. This parallel extends to practices such as exorcism, worship, healing, and deliverance, thus manifesting a profound form of religious expression informed by cultural hybridity, convergence, syncretism, and glocalisation. While there are ambiguities around scholarly debates on the definition of these terms, the article delves deep into the intricate religious elements embedded within the NRMs’ characteristic features, such as hymns, modes of worship, healing rituals, and deliverance ceremonies. These elements are tangible manifestations of their unique position at the crossroads of diverse belief systems. Streszczenie:
This article describes how globalisation paves a way toward Thailand's decision to develop its gastrodiplomacy strategy. In more detail, the practice that the author will examine is the practice of Thai gastrodiplomacy with Indonesia, which is directed explicitly to promoting their halal products. This research is descriptive and uses a case study approach, which may provide a deeper picture of a phenomenon in social sciences. Through the Thailand case study, we can see that so far, countries that have a comparative advantage in the culinary field can also respond to globalisation in their way. Responding to the high demand from the global trend of halal tourism, Thailand has slightly adjusted its gastrodiplomacy strategy towards the halal aspect. This also improves the image of those already popular with sex tourism. Uniquely, this halal gastrodiplomacy has also made them successful in gaining markets in other countries despite not being a Muslim-majority country. This research highlights that the practice of gastrodiplomacy can be viewed from various perspectives. One of them is the perspective of globalisation, which investigates how interactions between people can change our perception of objective and subjective needs and how linking these two needs creates new modes of activity.

Streszczenie:
Purpose – In 2012, the eight UGC-funded higher education institutions in Hong Kong completed a multi-year process in which the majority of academic programmes were transformed from three-year to four-year undergraduate curricula to accommodate liberal arts education. The purpose of this paper is to discuss why stakeholders in Hong Kong felt that reforms were necessary and summarizes the implementation of these reforms. Afterwards, recent literature that has similarly addressed higher education reforms is reviewed. Finally, the results of a qualitative research study, grounded in glocalization theory, are presented and contextualized. Design/methodology/approach – This paper first draws upon policy documents, newspaper accounts, and other published primary sources for the review of Hong Kong’s educational reforms. Subsequently, an exploratory qualitative research design consisting of semi-structured interviews with 23 administrators and professors in Hong Kong is presented. These individuals are designated as “key informants”, as they gave presentations, made speeches, or were otherwise active in conceptualizing Hong Kong’s undergraduate educational reform on macro- and micro-levels. Findings – Four primary findings concerning educational reform in Hong Kong are highlighted. They include tensions between international benchmarking and internal value systems; confusion over multiple educational paradigms; the limited efficacy of outside speakers and leadership; and controversy over outcome-based assessment. Originality/value – First, recent educational reforms in Hong Kong’s higher education sector are summarized. Second, the implications of educational reforms for Hong Kong and glocalization theory are discussed. Third, conclusions that may resonate with educational reform processes in other international contexts are drawn.
