AbstractThis study focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of Ghanaian nontraditional exporters (NTEs) in the handicrafts, agricultural, and semiprocessed/processed NTE sectors. Specifically, the study focuses on the relationship between Internet utilization and (1) age of the NTE, (2) export performance, and (3) type of export organization in internationalizing NTEs. The age of an exporting firm had a significant effect on its Internet use. Export volumes and the type of company ownership had no significant influence on Internet use among exporting firms. Analysis of age of the firm and Internet use indicated that firms that have been in existence for a long time adopt the Internet slower.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine how a Ghanaian migrant family business in Kent makes financial decisions and measures business growth within the framework of Social Network theory and focussing on influences such as family, cultural and social factors. Design/methodology/approach Case study: migrant Ghanaian family business owner in Kent, first generation who migrated to the UK after the year 2000. The business is a small and medium enterprise and running the business as a family. Findings The narrative highlights important aspects of cultural and social factors that are not usually considered in credit analysis or applications for a relationship with a mainstream financial services institution. It is also indicated that family and personal attributes and culture had the most social capital for the shop owner to use or explore in taking her financial decisions. The discussions provide a basic framework for future research. Originality/value There is a gap in the research of Ghanaian migrant family businesses in the UK, in particular of their financial decision making process.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the influence of corporate social responsibility on financial performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana by using access to capital and firm reputation as mediating variables. Design/methodology/approach The authors collected primary data from 423 SMEs within the Accra Metropolis. Partial least squares estimation technique was used to analyze the data. Findings The authors documented evidence for a mechanism through which corporate social responsibility results in financial performance of firms: SMEs with improved corporate social responsibility practices are better positioned to achieve enhanced reputation, which translates into improved financial performance. Even though this study did not document a significant relationship between corporate social responsibility and access to finance by Ghanaian SMEs, the authors contend that looking at the positive relationship between them, SMEs can minimize their capital constraints by embarking on CSR practices, which can eventually translate into financial performance. Practical implications The authors recommend that for SMEs to enhance their reputation and increase their access to capital, which will eventually result in enhanced financial performance, corporate social responsibility practices should be a major part of their operations. Originality/value It contributes to our knowledge on how CSR practices lead to financial performance of SMEs in developing countries. In addition, this is the first of its kind to establish the relationship between CSR practices and financial performance of SMEs in Ghana by using access to capital and firm reputation as mediating factors.

The implementation of blockchain technology in supply chain finance (BcSCF) offers a conducive way for entrepreneurial financing. Extending the resource-based view (RBV), a traditional perspective approach is espoused to trigger scholarly discussions, pining the development of research fronts on Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) in addressing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) financing constraints. This paper suggests that, despite the operational challenges of blockchains and the necessity to focus on core business activities, BaaS is promising, with significant efforts in terms of cost-savings, efficiency, and reliability with reduced risks. This study provides insight on BaaS contributions to fostering entrepreneurial finance as well as contributing to the literature on the accomplishments of BaaS within BcSCF provisions for particularly Ghanaian SMEs. Therefore, detailed studies into the viability of technologically-enabled types of SME finance are essential, necessitating more research. Resultantly, some forward-thinking research issues for researchers in the disciplines of innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, finance, and decision science have been presented.

PurposeThe aim of this study is to examine the explanatory link of green supply chain integration (GSCI) between green manufacturing practices (GMPs) and sustainable performance (economic [EP], environmental [EnP] and social [SP] performances) by using data from an emerging country.Design/methodology/approachAn explanatory research design was employed for the study. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 178 Ghanaian manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Hypotheses were formulated and tested using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe results indicate that GMPs have a significant positive effect on sustainable performance (EP, EnP and SP). Again, GMPs have a significant positive effect on GSCI. Additionally, GSCI plays a mediating role between green manufacturing practices and sustainable performance.Research limitations/implicationsIn this study, GSCI was compositely measured despite having three dimensions. Generalizing the findings is also not guaranteed since the sample constitutes Ghanaian manufacturing SMEs.Practical implicationsThe results provide significant ramifications for managers of manufacturing SMEs within Ghana and those in other sub-Saharan African context. Based on the results, managers of manufacturing firms will have stronger backing to invest in GMPs, while at the same time establish strong ties with eco-oriented supply chain partners so as to achieve their sustainable performance goals.Originality/valueThis study adds to the literature in the area of sustainability and triple bottom line by providing evidence from a fast growing industrialized and emerging country.

PurposeThis research examines the interrelationships between market orientation (MO) and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector. Due to the conflicting results associated with each orientation's influence on firm performance, some researchers advanced that scholars should resort to concurrent observation of the constructs. To the researchers, concurrent deployment of the constructs by businesses is likely to result in an enhanced performance. However, what is lacking in their proposition is how the deployment of these resources should be, thereby leading to a knowledge gap in the literature. The aforementioned gap is what this paper seeks to address.Design/methodology/approachThe study employed deductive research approach, and data were collected from 366 SMEs' owners or owner-managers of SMEs in two metropoles in Ghana. For this study, the hand delivery and collection of questionnaire technique was deployed. The reason is that most respondents may be reluctant to respond to the questionnaires through the post or Internet. Partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed for the data analysis due to its importance in allowing the testing of relationships among constructs. Furthermore, seven-point Likert scale was used to generate responses from the respondents.FindingsThe result indicates that MO and EO have a positive and significant influence on each other. However, the influence of EO on MO is greater. Therefore, when owners of SMEs are embracing the two constructs in their businesses, EO should precede MO. The finding is a novelty of this study. Through this result, the owners of SMEs would have knowledge of embracing EO before MO during the employment of the two constructs in their firms. The study further revealed that not all the components of MO have positive and significant influence on EO, and the reverse is true. Without this study, the owners of SMEs would have placed equal attention on each construct and their components. The study also indicates that deployment of MO in its composite form rather than components is the best way for improving EO.Practical implicationsThe more SMEs engage in MO activities, the likelihood of an increase in their entrepreneurial spirit and the opposite is true. However, engaging in more EO activities would result in higher MO than the reverse.Originality/valueThe findings add to the empirical literature by revealing the interrelationships between MO and EO, which serve as a guide to owners of SMEs and practitioners in their concurrent deployment of the two constructs. The findings would also open replication doors for future researchers in different settings.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the direct impact of social capital and the influence of market-based capabilities as intervening variables on the export performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana. Design/methodology/approach Questionnaire-based survey was used to collect data from top executives and senior managers of exporting companies in Ghana. Data obtained were analysed using the structural equation modelling. Findings The findings revealed that social capital of SMEs exert the greatest influence on their export performance. Innovation and marketing capabilities are also key drivers of export performance among SMEs as they fully mediate the social capital–export performance relationship. Notwithstanding, marketing capabilities appear to exert a greater influence than innovation capabilities on the export performance of SMEs. Research limitations/implications The study used perceptual measures of international performance by managers of SMEs in the Ghanaian exporting sector making it difficult to determine respondent bias. Practical implications Managers of exporting firms should build stronger relationships with their customers and suppliers who contribute significantly to their export performance. SMEs would also have to hone their innovation and marketing skills as strategic components in enhancing their export performance. Social implications Market-based resources such as marketing and innovation should not be taken for granted by SMEs in the export business. Originality/value The study offers some lessons on how small firms can sharpen their marketing and innovation capabilities to derive export performance benefits from social capital. Theoretically, while the findings offer strong evidence reinforcing the DC theory, an exploration of the nexus of the theories brings to the fore the need to reassess the resource-based view and SC theories.

PurposeThe study investigates the effect of autocratic, democratic and transformational leadership styles on employees' organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The study further examines the moderating role of leaders' emotional intelligence between leadership styles and OCB.Design/methodology/approachQuestionnaires were used to collect data from 618 small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) employees in Ghana. For this study, both simple random and convenient sampling were adopted in selecting respondents. Regression was used to test the hypotheses in the research model using IBM–Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).FindingsThe results show that democratic and transformational leadership styles both positively predicted the OCB of SME employees, although transformational leadership has a more significant influence. On the contrary, autocratic leadership style was found to have an insignificant relationship with OCB of SME employees when the interactive effect of the various leadership styles and emotional intelligence were introduced into the model. The results also show that whereas leaders' emotional intelligence positively moderate the relationship between autocratic leadership style and OCB, the relationships between democratic leadership style and OCB and between transformational leadership style and OCB are not significantly moderated by leaders' emotional intelligence.Research limitations/implicationsAn examination of other prominent leadership styles (for example, the transactional leadership style and the laissez faire leadership style) could be key areas for future research as it is a potential limitation of this study. Similarly, the use of a Western leadership instrument could also be a potential limitation in the Ghanaian context, although these instruments and scales may be applicable. Future studies could also consider a longitudinal approach to give a more holistic picture of the effect of the leadership styles on OCB.Practical implicationsIn general, the findings of the study support the idea that the autocratic leadership style affects SME employees' OCB both directly and indirectly through leaders' emotional intelligence. This study recommends that leaders of SMEs should focus on leadership styles that combine both result-oriented and people-centric behaviors to encourage SMEs' employees to engage in OCB.Originality/valueThis study provides firsthand information on the impact of autocratic leadership style, democratic leadership style and transformational leadership style on an employee's OCB from the Ghanaian SME perspective.

This study explores how 40 decision-makers from Swiss and Thai small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engage and develop international partnerships to discover, create, evaluate and exploit entrepreneurial opportunities across borders. Despite the growing importance of international entrepreneurship research, there is little research considering how entrepreneurial SMEs from different cultural contexts interact with international partners to develop international entrepreneurial opportunities. The findings show how Thai and Swiss entrepreneurs engage in the development of international partnerships to create, explore and exploit opportunities. The empirical study further emphasizes the importance of trustworthy and close interpersonal relationships. The meaning of friendship in culturally different countries is also explored as it pertains to the process of SME internationalization. The findings show important cultural differences. In the collectivistic Thai context, personal and professional networks are closely intertwined. In the development of new partnerships, Thai SMEs pursue the clear objective of developing friendships. In the individualistic Swiss context, partnerships mostly originate from opportunities in the professional context and relationships tend to develop more coincidentally into a trusted friendship.

Excessive staff departures reflect the poor human resource management of small and medium-sized private enterprises in China, which can make enterprises pay high human costs. In this paper, we analyze the reasons for the separation of small and medium-sized private enterprises in China, and propose corresponding measures to solve the problem, hoping that small and medium-sized private enterprises in China will pay attention to the problem of personnel separation, and the phenomenon of excessive personnel separation can be improved.

Significant doubts persist over the effectiveness of government policy to increase the numbers or performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the UK economy. We analyse UK political manifestoes from 1964 to 2015 to examine the development of small and medium-sized enterprise policy in political discourse. We do this by analysing how the broadly defined category of ‘small- and medium-sized enterprise’ has been characterised in the manifestoes and assess these characterisations in relation to the empirical evidence base. We highlight three consistent themes in UK political manifestoes during 1964–2015 where small- and medium-sized enterprises have been characterised as having the potential for growth, struggling to access finance and being over-burdened by regulation. We argue that homogenising the broad range of businesses represented by the small- and medium-sized enterprise category and characterising them in these terms misrepresents them, undermining policies developed in relation to this mischaracterisation.

Relationship between information disclosure and the cost of equity capital for small and medium-sized enterprises was studied by calculating the cost of equity capital using the residual income model. A multiple regression model was built considering economic condition in China. It was found that earnings information may help the small and medium-sized enterprise to reduce the cost of equity capital. One important motivation was that significant positive correlation was seen between financial leverage and the small and medium-sized enterprises cost of equity capital. Besides, negative correlation was seen between enterprise scale and the small and medium-sized enterprises cost of equity capital.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the profitability of urban chicken production in the medium-sized cities of Kisumu and Thika, Kenya. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected in 2016 from a sample of 157 indigenous chicken producers in the two cities. Descriptive analyses were used to characterize indigenous chicken production, marketing and profitability. In addition, multivariate regression models were estimated to determine factors influencing profitability of the enterprise. Findings Urban indigenous chicken production mainly serves a dual role of food provision and income generation. The enterprise is profitable, generating an average gross margin of Ksh. 756/bird. The multivariate regression models show that access to high-value markets, household income level and the type of production system used significantly affect profitability of indigenous chicken farming. However, poultry diseases and high input costs especially feed are the major constraints to poultry farming. Research limitations/implications This study has used cross-sectional data that provides information for only one point in time. Future research should be able to capture the seasonality of indigenous chicken production. Social implications This study has shown that indigenous chicken production in urban areas is a viable and profitable enterprise, which could provide an avenue for employment and income generation. Originality/value Studies assessing profitability of urban agricultural enterprises are scant. Thus, this study provides insights on the profitability of a common urban agriculture enterprise.

Despite the growing research interest in the small and medium business performance measurement, there is no consistent opinion among researchers regarding small and medium business performance indicators, their measurement, and methods of assessment. The research study is based on an analysis of literature and scientific publications, the assessment of the financial indicators used by the Latvian institutions for the company’s financial analysis, and an expert survey. The general scientific research methods are used in the research study: information analysis and synthesis, logical construction, monographic, an expert survey, data grouping, and the graphical method. The aim of the research – to carry out an analysis of the performance evaluation practice for small and medium-sized enterprises in Latvia. A study of the small and medium sized business performance measurement and management is carried out and the analysis of the financial indicators used for the performance measurement of small and medium-sized enterprises is performed in the result.

in this paper, take 30 enterprises from Shenzhen SME board and the GEM pharmaceutical industry as samples, using empirical methods to study the relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and business performance and debt source structure. The results showed that small and medium-sized pharmaceutical enterprises have a negative impact on business performance, and operating liabilities have a positive impact on business performance; compared with the small service enterprises, performance of small and medium-sized pharmaceutical enterprise is poor, because its operating liabilities rate is relatively low, and the financial leverage is higher. Therefore, when small and medium-sized pharmaceutical enterprise debt financing, financing should be appropriate for financial liabilities, and should strengthen the management of debt financing.

As the main part of the exhibition industry, exhibition companies, like the exhibition industry, are also highly vulnerable to the impact of unexpected events. This study mainly took small and medium-sized exhibition companies as the research object and investigates how small and medium-sized local exhibition companies can cope with the business crisis exacerbated by unexpected events through transformation and upgrading using a case study. This study concluded that small and medium-sized local exhibition companies have not done enough in the four aspects of enterprise risk management, talent management, digital upgrading, and enterprise branding. Therefore, small and medium-sized local exhibition companies need to find or establish a risk management system suitable for their own conditions, a perfect talent management and cultivation system, a reasonable digital transformation and upgrading, and corporate branding. This study gave small and medium-sized exhibition companies some development suggestions to help them transform and upgrade to cope with the increasingly serious business crisis.

Small and medium sized enterprises play an essential role in the economy of the Czech Republic as a report of development of small and medium-sized enterprises and its support from 2010 announces. They are the source of development of towns, regions and the state itself. Small and medium-sized enterprises represent 99.84 % of the whole business subjects. Statistic data underline this position- they indicate that small and medium-sized enterprises employ 2/3 employees. Therefore, occupying small and medium-sized enterprises are to be taken as priority.Strategic management on the level of small and medium-sized enterprises is, as number of authors write, diverse. Small enterprises including micro have less access to capital, they have no money for employing specialists in the field, and they solve administration primarily. The aim of this follow-up GAJU project contribution concerned on process analysis of small and medium-sized enterprises is to summarize the gained results from the view of comparison of the level of strategic management in small and medium-sized enterprises.Nowadays, numbers of enterprises are thinking about whether they are able to remain in the market as an established company, they explore the possibility of improving its position. There is a question for small and medium-sized enterprises management- can strategic management be used as an instrument for increasing competitiveness? The results show that SMEs with a clearly defined strategy show better results of financial health (IN99 and ROA) than companies without a defined strategy. In terms of business focus, we were able to demonstrate positive relationship between strategy and finance only for companies in the construction industry, on the significance level of 0.05. Compared to manufacturers and service-providing companies where this relation is not statistically significant.

Small and medium-sized enterprises play an important role in promoting social and economic growth, which is an important foundation for the development of China’s national economy. From the perspective of bank interests, this paper uses the invoice data of small and medium-sized enterprises to evaluate their credit risk and formulates corresponding bank credit strategies for these enterprises in different industries and properties. Firstly, the credit risk identification factor system is constructed by using feature engineering, and the quantitative model of enterprise credit risk is built based on back propagation (BP) neural network to predict the default probability of enterprises. On this basis, the k-prototypes clustering algorithm is used to classify enterprises. According to the default probability of each enterprise and the loss rate under different interest rates, a nonlinear programming model, with the maximum expected profit of banks as the goal, is constructed. The simulated annealing algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution of the credit strategy.

This paper is aimed at figuring out the elements which a technology-based small and medium-sized enterprise should have in order to further growth. Based on the deconstruction of the development of this kind of enterprise, the paper summarizes the current development problems of domestic technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises. The development of science and technology small and medium-sized enterprises in China is mainly faced with the problems of limited number and regional imbalance. In some undeveloped regions, the local governments are relatively more willing to invest their restricted capital to infrastructure construction and do not pay enough emphasis on innovation activities. Taking TianJin Chase Sun Pharmaceutical as an example, this paper investigates the management mechanism and financial information to study the development factors of Chase Sun Pharmaceutical, using SWOT analysis and financial indicators analysis. CSP has converted from an enterprise on the verge of bankruptcy to a “Little Giant” enterprise that has strong research and development abilities. The case analysis reflects the development hindrance factors such as achievement transformation level, financing difficulties, and management defects, and further puts forward countermeasures and suggestions. Through this analysis, more specific information and experience on the development of science and technology in small and medium-sized enterprises in China is expected to be verified.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to analyse the information shared by SMEs with their main customers and suppliers and its implications on their performance.Design/methodology/approachThe paper puts forward the concept of arcs of communication based on the frequency and direction of the information exchanged by SMEs with their main customers and suppliers. SMEs are classified by the arc of communication they belong to using data from a survey carried out in the Canary Islands (Spain). The Rasch Measurement Theory is applied.FindingsThe largest group of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) shares information frequently with both customers and suppliers (broad arc of communication). Differences were detected in the performance of SMEs belonging to this broad arc, as well as, in those firms that communicated frequently with their main suppliers (asymmetrical arc of communication towards suppliers). In both cases, these firms were better than their competitors in innovation.Practical implicationsThis study demonstrates the need for better management of the links between SMEs and their suppliers and with their customers in accordance with their strategies, promoting a greater cooperative behaviour throughout the supply chain.Originality/valueSMEs’ customers and suppliers are their main sources of information compared to large firms, which have greater resources to search for and acquire information. This paper investigates the information exchanged by SMEs with their main customers and suppliers from a strategic focus by adding to the literature the concept of arcs of communication. It also has the added value of applying the Rasch Measurement Theory (Rasch, 1960/1980).

SMEs are established and managed by owner managers. Their personality traits, demographics impact the enterprise’s managerial system and performance. This study aims at clustering the SMEs to find out the clustering structure via these stated above factors, then, defining a set of criteria to recognize the owner managers’ typology and predicting the enterprise performance. Clustering method has been applied to analyze 240 enterprises into 3 clusters differentiating with each other basing on the personality traits, particularly, innovation, demographics, strategic management and organizational functional structure. These factors are encapsulated into a set of criteria for owner manager’ typology definition and prediction of the enterprise performance. Relations among these factors in each cluster were also recognized.

Open innovation has been widely debated in management literature. However, little attention has been given to how small and medium sized enterprises manage to open up their innovation process. Consequently, various questions remain unanswered. In particular, we want to shed light on the following issue: how small and medium-sized enterprises manage organizational changes in their journey from closed to open innovation. A literature review examines how small and medium-sized enterprises open up their innovation process based on nine perspectives. Then, the reference framework addresses the organizational changes embedded in evolving from closed to open innovation. In this sense, we use acknowledged concepts on organizational change research to carry out an in depth-case study on a small and medium-sized enterprise evolving in the sports equipment industry. The results demonstrate that, in its journey from closed to open innovation, the small and medium-sized enterprise has to stimulate and to manage changes to four company’s dimensions i.e. corporate culture, networking, organizational structure and knowledge management systems. The paper concludes by highlighting the diverse organizational changes undertaken by the company on these four dimensions. Based on this paper’s conclusion, managerial implications and discussion for future research are drawn.

However, the problem of financing constraint is always the shackle that restricts the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. As a strong support for national development, the integration of the real economy and the financial supply side has been in constant friction. Efforts should be made to create a sound financing ecology, and further promote the solution of the financing difficulties of the real economy, especially for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. In reality, the shortage of operating capital is always the main factor restricting the improvement of enterprise operation performance. In view of this situation, supply chain finance is regarded as an effective way to solve the financing problems of small and medium-sized enterprises by the theoretical circle and the industrial circle. Supply chain finance, as a new financing solution, helps to optimize the allocation of resources and funds between the upstream and downstream organizations of the supply chain, and gradually becomes an important way to alleviate the shortage of operating funds for small and medium-sized enterprises. This paper systematically reviews the relationships among supply chain finance, supply chain integration, enterprise digital transformation and enterprise operation performance, and reviews the information asymmetry theory and transaction cost theory.

This study analyzes incentive contracts in public procurement supply chains using a game-theoretic approach. Specifically, we compare a structure in which the host company is a large enterprise and the partner company is a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) to a structure in which the host is an SME and the partner is a large enterprise. For each structure, we examine whether an incentive contract improves supply chain performance and confirm that the performance improvement effect is greater when the host company is an SME. Our analysis has several policy implications. SMEs are less likely to be selected as host companies for large-scale procurement projects, limiting their growth opportunities. Thus, to enable SMEs’ sustainable growth through large-scale procurement projects, the governments can allocate a portion of public procurement to SMEs. The introduction of incentive contracts elicits sustainable cooperation from large companies when an SME is the host company in a public procurement supply chain.

SME's economic performance is directly affecting the national budget. Still, there is not a precise method of assessing and improving the innovation process at neither firm nor national level. The paper aims to analyze the current innovative performance of Moldovan SMEs. The analysis will explore factors affecting enterprise innovation. It will determine how the existing innovation ecosystem affects the one in an enterprise, and what methods should be applied to improve innovation as well as the ecosystem. To gain insight, the study conducted an email survey of 150 companies, which were the object for research in the Republic of Moldova. The primary purpose of the study is to emphasize the importance of innovation issues related to increasing SME's competitiveness, in connection with presenting the theoretical aspects in the field, proving basic concepts and quantifying them in the study of innovation as well as various forms, types, and factors influencing innovative organizations. The objective of these enterprise questionnaires is to accumulate substantial and reliable information that is significant to responding to the fundamental research questions. Methodological tools of the research methods were the tools for statistical analysis based on using primary data from the questionnaire research. The reference period for statistical research was 2013 and 2017. The author collected the data between August and September 2018 based on questionnaires filled in on paper or sent through the email by the enterprises included in the research. The results of the study provide the following insights: product innovation is the primary innovation type among Moldovan SMEs; the country lacks financial resources for innovation support. Also, Moldova's weak innovation ecosystem and lack of highly qualified workers slow down the development of enterprises. At the end of the thesis, several recommendations for enterprise managers as well as high-level government organizations were provided. Nowadays, small- and medium-sized enterprises play crucial roles in both developed and developing countries. They create new employment, fulfill the market gap, contribute to Gross Domestic Product and boost the whole economy. However, small- and medium-sized enterprises face more financial constraints than large enterprises, which prevent them from growing and expanding their activities. This paper aims to investigate how the innovation of small- and medium-sized enterprises impacts on credit accessibility in Vietnam from 2005 to 2015, through five aspects of innovation: new products, new technology, improved existing products, research and development investment, and machine innovation. The data set consists of more than 4500 observations of small- and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam. This data set is taken from a survey conducted within the framework of cooperation among UNU-WIDER, the University of Copenhagen and Vietnamese government agencies. Using panel regression model, we found out that three out of five innovation factors significantly impact on credit accessibility. More specifically, research and development investment and new product have negative impact on credit accessibility; whereas new technology has positive impact on credit accessibility. These findings are useful for firm managers, banks and policy makers to help small- and medium-sized enterprises overcome financial constraints through innovation aspects.

Under the background of increasingly powerful financial science and technology, we can use more financial technology through big data multidimensional collecting enterprise information, establishing intelligent risk control process, establishing the core enterprise credit evaluation system, preventing the core and small and medium-sized enterprises collusion fraud, preventing the third-party logistics warehousing enterprise credit risk, and reducing the risk of commercial banks supply chain financial business.

One of the main tasks of the company's economic security is to assess the level of protection against external and internal threats in order to ensure its stable and effective development. Enterprise security means the state of security of legal, economic and industrial relations, as well as material, intellectual and information resources, which expresses the ability of the enterprise to operate sustainably and effectively. This is especially important in the current reality because of the coronavirus infection. The year 2020 has taken a huge toll on small and medium-sized businesses. Managers and managers should seriously consider how to act in this situation, and what measures should be taken to neutralize threats. The article reveals the impact of the economic crisis on the functioning of the enterprise and methods of minimizing its impact. These methods are as follows: - use of risk management as a part of the company's management system, regardless of its size and the specific production or service provision; - comprehensive market research; - search for highly qualified personnel; - transition to outsourcing. The article describes outsourcing as a scheme of interaction with external suppliers in more detail. Internationally outsourcing has long been recognized as a means of improving the efficiency of an enterprise. However, Russian companies attract independent contractors to perform certain functions carefully[2]. Also, outsourcing helps companies to develop in the market, at the same time reducing costs and maintaining a high position in the market, improve the quality of products and services, reduce risks, which is most important during the economic crisis in the country.

As a result of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, numerous countries have become highly interested in sustainability. Manufacturers have been triggered to develop sustainable supply chain strategies in consideration of their value-added processes and stakeholders. This study was conducted, in the context of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the Taiwanese manufacturing industry, in order to examine the relationship between sustainability and business performance from the perspective of the supply chain aspects of business cooperation, operation integration, and enterprise commitment. A total of 290 companies were surveyed and structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the figures from the samples. The results reveal that the implementation of sustainable practices in the context of enterprise commitments, supply chain cooperation, and operation integration has a positive impact on sustainability and business performance. Furthermore, in high-value manufacturing, supply chain cooperation significantly affects sustainable business performance through internal operation integration. These results may serve as a reference for the realization of supply chain sustainability in small- and medium-sized enterprises.
