Streszczenie:
The biogeographic and phylogenetic relationships of six of the eight Australian genera of freshwater shrimp from the family Atyidae were investigated using mitochondrial 16S rDNA and cytochrome oxidase I sequences. Previous studies on two of the epigean genera (Caridina, Paratya) indicate that Australian species have strong links to congenerics from outside, with Australian members of Paratya being monophyletic and Caridina polyphyletic. The present study found that the endemic Australian epigean genus Australatya forms a strong clade with Pacific ‘Atya-like’ genera (Atyoida, Atyopsis), and that the endemic Australian epigean genus Caridinides falls within a clade containing Caridina species from the Australian ‘indistincta’ group. The two hypogean genera included in this study (Parisia, Pycnisia) form a strong clade in all analyses, implying an Australian subterranean speciation. The possibility of a relationship between Parisia/Pycnisia and an Australian Caridina species may have implications for the monophyly of the highly disjunct genus Parisia (Australia, Madagascar, Philippines). Parisia may descend from local Caridina species and represent convergent morphologies.

The discovery of the first damselfly Lestes regina Théobald, 1937 from Monteils (Gard, France) supports the identity of late Eocene age of this outcrop with the historical outcrop of Célas, type locality for the type series of this species. Lestes regina is also documented from the late Eocene Isle of Wight basin, confirming the presence of significant contacts between this southern area and the anglo-Parisian lacustrine basin at that time. Nearly all the Eocene and Oligocene fossil Lestes from Western Europe have a particular character, viz. the presence of a supplementary row of cells between the veins MP and CuA. This character is much less frequent in extant Lestes and is still unknown among Neogene representatives of the genus.

The aim of this thesis is to use phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA to investigate the biogeography and evolutionary relationships within the freshwater shrimp family Atyidae in Australia at a nested series of scales, both geographic and systematic. At the largest scale, the relationships between Australian and Indo-West Pacific species were inferred using the two most common atyid genera in Australia, Caridina and Paratya. Most atyids are hypothesised to have colonised Australia from Southeast Asia, but Paratya may be a Gondwanan relict given its distribution. Australian Paratya all form a strong clade, with a sister relationship to species from Tasman Sea islands. Molecular clock estimates place all of the splits within Paratya after the break-up of Gondwana, with Australia being colonised once 3½-8½ million years ago. This transoceanic dispersal is conjectured to have taken place through oceanic currents because of the amphidromous life cycle of some taxa of Paratya. Caridina has a very different biogeographic history in Australia, as numerous Australian species have close evolutionary relationships with non-Australian taxa from locations throughout the region. This implies many colonisations to or from Australia over a long period, and thus highlights the surprising adeptness of freshwater shrimp in dispersal across ocean barriers and the unity of much of the region's freshwater biota. A number of potential species radiations within Australia were also identified. This agrees with patterns detected for a large number of Australian freshwater taxa, and implies a vicariant explanation due to the development of colder, dryer climates. The systematic relationships of the remaining two Australian surface genera (Caridinides, Australatya) and two subterranean genera (Parisia, Pycnisia) were also investigated. Australatya forms a strong clade with Pacific 'Atya-like' genera, and Caridinides falls within a clade containing Australian Caridina. The hypogean genera, Parisia and Pycnisia, form a strong clade in all analyses, implying an Australian subterranean speciation. The possibility of a relationship between Parisia/Pycnisia and some Australian Caridina species may have implications for the monophyly of the highly disjunct genus Parisia, as it may descend from local Caridina species and represent convergent morphologies. The common and speciose genus Caridina was used as a model taxon for analyses within Australia. At the medium scale, molecular taxonomic techniques were used to uncover cryptic species within a problematic east Australian species complex. At least five species were detected. Phylogeographic and population genetic analyses were carried out on each of these five cryptic species, which diverged from each other in the late Miocene/Pliocene. There were very large differences between the species in the scales of overall geographic distribution, intraspecific divergence and population structure. These were characterised as either: 1) species with large ranges, low intraspecific divergence, limited phylogeographic structuring (Caridina sp. D); 2) species with large ranges, high intraspecific divergence, a high level of phylogeographic structuring (sp. B); 3) species with a limited range, low intraspecific divergence, no phylogeographic structuring (sp. E); or 4) species with limited ranges, high intraspecific divergences, a high level of phylogeographic structuring (sp. A & C). These patterns reflect a combination of large-scale factors, such as landscape structure and climate change, and small-scale factors, such as species-specific tolerances to local conditions and differing dispersal capabilities. Life history variation (egg size) between species may be correlated with different dispersal abilities. Species with the smallest eggs have the least intraspecific divergence and largest distribution, while those with the biggest eggs have the most divergence and smallest distribution, with medium-sized egg species in between. At the smallest phylogeographic scale, C. sp. C from the sand dune islands of Moreton Bay in southeastern Queensland was further analysed. Two different lineages (C1, C2) were found which diverged from each other during the late Miocene/Pliocene and so are older than the current landscape in which they are found. Small-scale phylogeographic analyses within C1, C2 and a sympatric fish identified divergences dating to the Pleistocene (about 100-300 thousand years ago). This implies that ice age sea-level changes may have structured these populations, although there is little observable influence of the last glacial maximum (about 18 thousand years ago). This study has highlighted a number of taxonomic anomalies within the Atyidae. The detection of many cryptic species implies that biodiversity within freshwater invertebrates is higher than currently appreciated. The evolutionary and biogeographic relationships of Australian atyids have proved complex, with many taxa having their own individual histories. At the large Indo-Pacific scale, dispersal is most evident, but within Australia, both vicariance and dispersal have been responsible for structuring all taxa at every scale.

By Estrogen In Breast Cancer 1-Like). Les souris homozygotes meurent in utero.
Congenital Abnormalities of the Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT) comprise a broad spectrum of renal and urinary tract malformations with a wide range of severity. CAKUT represent major causes of chronic kidney disease in children, and the most severe cases are associated with perinatal lethality and/or termination of pregnancy. CAKUT are due to defects arising during renal development and their pathophysiological mechanisms are complex, involving both environmental and genetic factors. Although disease-causing mutations in more than 50 genes have been reported, mutations in these genes can explain only 20% of the cases, while for the others the genetic causeremains unknown.Using a combined approach of whole-exome and targeted exome sequencing, we identified mutations in a novel gene, GREB1L (Growth Regulation by Estrogen in Breast Cancer 1 Like), in CAKUT-affected cases in 16 independent families, 12 of them with foetuses with bilateral kidneyagenesis (BKA) and uterus agenesis (female foetuses). This gene had never been implicated in kidney development and its function is unknown. We generated a mouse model invalidated for Greb1l usingCRISPR/Cas9. Embryonic lethality was observed in Greb1l knockout mice at the homozygous stateand all Greb1l-/- embryos were smaller and presented exencephaly, BKA and absence of Wolff and Muller ducts, as well as heart defects. Further studies on early embryonic stages demonstrated that Greb1l is necessary for proper intermediate mesoderm specification. In parallel, another candidate gene for CAKUT, SRPK1 (Serine/Arginine-Rich Protein Kinase 1), was studied. A variant in this gene was identified in a family with several cystic CAKUT-affected members. The protein encoded by this gene is a kinase specific for Serine/Arginine rich proteins, especially splicing factors. Invalidation of Srpk1 in kidney epithelial cells led to defects in epithelialisation and establishment of apico-basal polarity, processes important for proper kidney development. Moreover, transcriptomic studies on these cells revealed Srpk1 to be implicated in the regulation of the expression of genes controlling kidney development. Altogether, this suggests thatSRPK1 is a good candidate gene for CAKUT

The human ß-defensin-1 (HBD1) is an antimicrobial peptide constitutively expressed by epithelial cells at mucosal surfaces. In addition to its microbicidal properties, the loss of HBD1 expression in several cancers suggests that it may also have an anti-tumor activity. Here, we investigated the link between HBD1 expression and cancer signaling pathways in human colon cancer and primary cells. Using available datasets from patient cohorts, we found that HBD1 expression is decreased in colorectal cancer. We demonstrated that inhibiting the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) increased HBD1 transcription, whereas activating EGFR repressed HBD1 transcription, through the MEK1/2-ERK1/2 pathway that ultimately regulates MYC. We finally present evidence supporting the direct role of MYC, together with the MIZ1 coregulator, in HBD1 regulation. Our work uncovers the role and deciphers the function of the EGFR-ERK-MYC axis as a repressor of HBD1 transcription and contributes to the understanding of HBD1 suppression observed in colorectal cancer. This work opens also the reflection about the therapeutic interest of HBD1 regulation in cancer treatment

This work aims to contribute to understanding the history of the Village of S?o Francisco of Itagua? in the nineteenth century. Firstly, it is proposed to discuss and consider supposed process of extinction of Itagua? village which has been defended by the discourse of certain political and intellectual authorities, who argued about the "mixing" and "degradation" of indigenous groups. Also intends to show that this speech intensified the expropriation of indigenous lands and the speech been deconstructing their right to land. Thus, in accordance of that discourse the Indians were treated as if there they did not exist, producing a type discursive of "invisibility" and / or "disappearance". In Itagua?, the settlement went through successive attempts to extinction, while the Indigenous continued resisting and building different ways of staying with their lands, even after Itagua? change to the village in 1818, or of the declaration of extintion of Itagua? Village in 1834. Despite the political and social environment less and less favorable to the Indians, sources such as correspondence, requirements, offices, ordinances, floor plan chorography and population map of the village indicate that, although the village has been declared extinct by local authorities, the Indians recognized their territory as "Village", at the same time they were recognized by other (local) residents as "Indigenous of settlement" in the region. Still in 1860, as were demonstrated in this study, the Indigenous continuous having land in the region and building a sociocultural and political space, which interacted with the local society and made choices, negotiations and resisted the territorial expropriation proceedings. (Lastly), with this study, we seek to deconstruct the idea that the Indians disappeared from the (so-called village?s extinction in the year of 1834) supposed extinction of the village 1834, making them "visible" through research in historical sources still little visited by the history of the Indians, as the baptism records as well as and death inventories. We also searched the parish registers of land.

This paper aims to investigate the terms and conditions of a lesbian gaze and a lesbian spectatorship from a feminist and queer theoretical point of view. The empirical material consists of three paintings by the American artist Romaine Brooks (1874-1970).  Brooks was based in Paris in the early 20th century where she was surrounded by a group of intellectual and usually cross-dressing lesbians. The women within this context are the ones depicted in Brooks’ paintings and this makes her one of the first artists in modernity to openly portray lesbian and cross-dressing women. Her paintings lead into new conditions for the traditional understanding of spectatorship as well as female positions, since there is no male involvement or presence within the interactive space surrounding these paintings. The survey tries to further investigate and break down already existing theories concerning spectatorship with the main focus on Laura Mulvey’s the male gaze, termed in the essay “Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema” (1975). The queer theoretical approach in this paper is based on Judith Butler’s performativity, which then is attached to gaze theories in order to investigate the active and passive positions found in Brooks’ paintings. The paper does also include an analysis of the male gaze in relation to modernism, avant-garde, canon and subsequently the reason behind Brooks’ absence in modernist canon.

Streszczenie:
This chapter considers how the whole Parisian period is presented in the Mémoires. It examines which elements of Goldoni’s French career are discussed, and identifies a refrain of failure despite the grand claims of the preface; a refrain that seems to stem from a blinkered focus on the weight of Comédie-Française success, born of the misunderstandings identified in Chapter 6. It then considers plays written about Goldoni since his death, and by analysing their relationship to the Mémoires, suggests that the genius myth he set out to create was unsuccessful in the French context due to a lack of published evidence of successful authorship to counterbalance his misdirected autobiographical writings.

Streszczenie:
During the belle époque, a vision of Parisian garment workers as guardians of a French cultural monopoly on luxury taste was deployed by trade industrialists, labor inspectors, philanthropists, and government officials assessing the state of the garment industry. In examining exhibition reports, ministerial inquiries, and labor reform commissions, it becomes evident that assertions of French fashion genius were threaded throughout debates about industrial trade and regulation for audiences both abroad and at home. This reveals a peculiarly French investment in fashion and tastefulness. Furthermore, national taste supremacy combined with fears about the vulnerability of the couture industry to stymie attempts at regulating workplace and environmental hazards in this period. This chapter begins by exploring rhetoric about the Parisian garment worker around the Franco-British Exhibition of 1908, when French and British commentators alike praised French luxury garment products, and evoked Paris as the site of garment trade art and Parisian workingwomen as the preternaturally tasteful if antediluvian instruments of that art. It then interrogates how such encomia to garment worker taste and vulnerability operated in two debates about workplace reform during the belle époque: efforts to eliminate night garment work and those to regulate toxic substances in artificial flowermaking.

Streszczenie:
The author addresses the spatial determinations at play in Georges Franju’s French horror masterpiece Les Yeux sans visage (1960), in which a mad scientist bent on reconstructing his daughter’s damaged face tortures and kills the unsuspecting young women he lures to his suburban villa. The author argues for a strong correlation between Franju’s directorial sensibility and the Paris suburbs’ culturally and geographically peripheral status. A locus of untold violence, Dr Génissier’s secluded villa cloaks the extraordinary under the guise of the ordinary to unsettle the film audience in a strong rejection of the nostalgic tones of Jacques Becker’s Casque d’or and of Jacques Tati’s Mon Oncle from the same period. The author relates themes of banishment and disfiguration to the sociological effects of suburban upheaval during the Trente Glorieuses. The story of Dr Génissier’s experiments gone awry – ultimately a story about the duality of victimhood and predatory madness – comes symptomatically to express other social processes at work in French culture of the period.

Programmed for the Palais Garnier gala opening in 1875, the ballet reflects not a timeless Orient but timely cultural and colonial politics: with the white-gowned Empress Eugenie herself performing at the opening of the Suez in 1869, the revival of La Source represents the same French genius in water management also at work in the construction of the Palais Garnier.

Streszczenie:
Paris polyphylla is an important threatened medicinal plants found mainly in the north eastern parts of India. These rhizomatic plants are in great demands and extracted injudiciously from the wild. The rhizome is the economic part which is used for its various medicinal properties. The present article gives an account of updated information on its phytochemical and pharmacological properties and its ethno medicinal uses on account of the tale from the local people and veds, literature and their conservation aspects in the region. The review reveals that wide numbers of phytochemical constituents have been isolated from these plants. The rhizomes of the several species of the genus Paris have been used as haemostatic and anti-inflammatory agent to treat traumatic injuries, snake bites, abscess, parotitis and mastitis. For the last few decades or so, extensive research work has been done to prove its biological activities and pharmacology of its extracts. Excessive injudicious collection and harvesting from the wild has pushed these species towards extinction. Domestication, cultivation and strict laws are the need of the hour to save these species from extinction.
