Streszczenie:
Review of the monograph T. Vlasova, I. Grabovska, Y. Galytska "The actual gender: the international and Ukrainian context". Kyiv: Millenium, 2018. - 132 p. The problem of transformation of feminist ideologies, peculiarities of formation of gender discourse in postmodern culture, development of gender practices, peripheries of formation of gender system of Ukrainian society are the most urgent, but not all issues which are professionally, convincingly and interestingly considered by the authors of the monograph. Everyone who reads the text will be forced to conclude that the new principles of gender socialization formed in Western culture, which provoked a change in the gender order of postmodern societies, are now actively penetrating into our culture and establishing it, changing the traditional gender structure of Ukrainian society.

Streszczenie:
In the present paper we analyze how divergence in language use across genders has received increasing scholarly attention since the late 1960s and –especially– early 1970s. While early research on the field is of-tentimes based on researcher introspection (Lakoff 1973), at this time we already find certain scholars that ap-proach the matter from a purely empirical perspective (Labov 1966). Since the very early precursors of gen-der and language studies, such preliminary analyses were pivotal in paving the path to more methodological-ly complex insights into the gender-language relationship (Nichols 1978, Trudgill 1988, Goodwin 1988). In more recent years, gender has started to be regarded as a complex dynamic social construction, which has prompted the use of more refined methodologies based upon the idea that stylisticvariation occurring within every speaker’s vernacular is not random but rather systematic.

Streszczenie:
In Germany, knowledge production by gender researchers has been under attack not only from male rights activists, Christian fundamentalists and right-wing parties and movements, but also from scientists in various fi elds. Based on a discourse analysis of their publications (2009-2017) and a media reception analysis, this essay analyses arguments used by ‘gender’-critical scientists and the socio-political backgrounds to where they position themselves. I show that their arguments do not belong to scientifi c discourse, but can be interpreted as a form of science populism which lends ‘scientific’ authority to the formation of authoritarian, anti-feminist discourses that aims to reify ‘secure’ knowledge about ‘gender’. Accordingly, ‘gender-critical’ scientists are read mainly by non-scientific publics, including right-wing and Christian fundamentalist media and actors. As I will show, the phenomenon of scientists taking action against ‘gender’ can be situated in historical antifeminism, as well as contemporary discourses on the crisis-like character of the dynamics regarding gender knowledge and societal conditions.

Streszczenie:
Abstract In this article, the author argues that a decolonial perspective on gender means conceptualizing it as always already trans. The object of investigation is gender as a category and gender studies as a field of knowledge. To discuss what decolonizing trans/gender studies in Europe could mean, the author aims to bring different strands together that have been held apart so far: resistance against global attacks on gender studies, resistance against transphobic feminism, and the “decolonising the curriculum” movement in the United Kingdom. A critical focus on Eurocentric knowledge and truth claims means to define Europe as a complex set of geopolitical, historical, and epistemological processes and not just as a neutral location. At British universities, a mostly student-led movement has started to emerge that fights for decolonizing higher education. This movement is inspired by transnational student movements like Rhodes/Fees Must Fall in South Africa and calls for challenging racist, colonialist, nationalist, and neoliberal paradigms in knowledge production by addressing both issues of epistemology and access to higher education. Applying central political claims of the “decolonising the curriculum” movement, the author explores potentials and challenges of the task of decolonizing trans/gender studies in Europe and the global North. The author's intervention opens up a discussion on how to conceptualize knowledge on transgender with a central focus on decolonial and transnational perspectives.
