Pełny tekst źródłaThe purpose of this project was to develop a grant proposal seeking funds for the implementation of a youth-led nutrition and education program utilizing the development and maintenance of a community garden. The participants will be youth from low income and minority backgrounds in San Diego, California. The service partners of San Diego Youth Services TAY Academy will have the opportunity to participate in this community garden program to learn about healthy eating habits, the risks of obesity, and food desert communities.
Through a review of the literature on obesity, food deserts, and community gardens the writer proposed and designed a youth-led community garden program. The writer explored potential public and private funding sources, which yielded the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as a potential funding source.
The actual submission and/or funding of this grant proposal were not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.

Pełny tekst źródłaPirmą kartą buvo palyginti to paties daigo šaknies ir hipokotilio gravitacijos jutimo savitumai skirtingomis gravitacinio dirginimo sąlygomis. Netiesioginiu eksperimentiniu metodu, t.y. kiekybiškai analizuojant amiloplastų statikos ir kinetikos priklausomybę nuo gravitacinės jėgos veikimo krypties ir dydžio, buvo įvertinta citoskeleto reikšmė poliarizuotos šaknų ir hipokotilių statocitų struktūros palaikymui ir viduląsteliniams amiloplastų judesiams daigų gravitacinio dirginimo metu. Eksperimentai atlikti su sėjamosios pipirnės (Lepidium sativum L.) daigais tamsoje, gravitacijos pokyčių generavimui naudojant originalius prietaisus – borto centrifugą „Neris-5“ kosminio skrydžio sąlygomis (biopalydovas „Bion-10“) ir dviejų ortogonalių ašių centrifugą-klinostatą. Gravitacinės jėgos dydis buvo keičiamas nuo mikrogravitacijos lygmens (reali kosmose arba imituota horizontaliu klinostatavimu) iki 1 g (imituota centrifugavimu arba natūrali Žemės gravitacija), o jos veikimo kryptis buvo keičiama 90° arba 180° kampu daigo išilginės ašies atžvilgiu. Nustatyta, kad gravitacinės jėgos buvimas nėra būtina sąlyga sėjamosios pipirnės daigų šaknų ir hipokotilių gravisensorinio audinio formavimuisi, bet jai neveikiant (reali ir imituota mikrogravitacija) sulėtėja hipokotilių endodermio ląstelių augimas, pakinta gravisensorinių ląstelių poliškumas dėl esminio amiloplastų pakilimo ląstelių centro kryptimi. Pełny tekst źródłaPurpose: The problem with hard surfaces, as for example asphalt and roofing, is that they do not absorb enough rainwater. Furthermore, this leads to that grass surfaces and other absorbent surfaces around having to take care of all stormwater that the hardened surfaces cannot infiltrate. Flooding in urban environments has become increasingly common due to heavy rain and a high proportion of hard surfaces. This leads to an overload of the pipe line for rainwater. Therefore well-functioning balancing trays close to source needed to mimic natural drainage of nature. The goal was to investigate witch countervailing magazine mainly should be applied in heavily paved small terraced plots, where the soil has limited infiltration properties, in terms of efficiency, cost and maintenance. Method: The methods used to meet the objective is analysis of documents, qualitative interviews and a case study. The document analysis serves as a basis for the case study and interviews serve as empirical input for the case study. Findings: The countervailing magazine that is preferred is the pipe magazine when the plant surface is limited and the soil has limited infiltration properties. Implications: The problem statement treats the issue with an increasing number of floodings in urban environments due to the paved surfaces and the heavy rains. Furthermore, it is disclosed that the management system therefore risks becoming overloaded. This problem was also confirmed in the interviews. The work did not identify which countervailing magazine that is preferred for all kinds of cases, but only in the cases where land space is limited and where the soil has limited infiltration properties. The solution is therefore that pipe magazine is the magazine preferred for local disposal of stormwater in those circumstances. It is recommended when applying this result real life, to use the cost per meter and countervailing volume per meter available in efforts to work out how long stretch pipe magazine needs to be built on to achieve the desired equalization volume. Rating systems made for maintenance can however be used for other cases. Limitations: The result is applicable in similar scenarios as for the case study, which is at a row house site where the surface for the magazine is limited and where the soil has limited infiltration properties. A graph has been developed for the work where the construction cost per meter is described for each countervailing magazine and also has a graph with stormwater volume per meter been developed. These diagrams can therefore be applied to other cases with small areas but with other measures of the plot. Therefore the result also is applicable to other cases.

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this thesis industrial company's pollution is investigated using passive Lichen Indication method, passive accumulation and biotesting methods. Object of research: Two species of plants were selected: garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) and epiphytic lichen. During the evaluation we examined epiphytic lichen found on trees surrounding the territories of industrial companies and evaluated pollution dispersion by the growth of garden crass (Lepidium sativum L.) on sphagnum (which have absorbed the air pollutants produced by the companies) seedbed. Aim of the research: The aim of this research is to evaluate the air quality in the territories of industrial companies by the types of epiphytic lichen found in the perimeter and the spread of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) on sphagnum (which have absorbed the air pollutants produced by the companies) seedbed. Methods. The evaluation took place in year 2013-2014 in the territories of the most polluting companies in Šakiai district: UAB “Indavang” and UAB “Kriūkių baldai”. At distances of 100, 200 and 500 meters from the pollution source different types of epiphytic lichen were examined, as well as their coverage in percents and polio tolerance index. Pełny tekst źródłaMaster work analyse Environmental factors influence on the quality of the vaccine of first year's plum trees. Work object - trial investigated various plum species 'Viktorija', 'Kometa' and 'Early Gold', which were vaccinated into the Caucasian plum (Prunus divaricata). Work purpose - of the test was to compare the effect quality of vaccine for first year's plum trees, which grow in a constant place and for the ones after transplantation. Work method - Two-factor test was conducted in 2008 LŽŪU nursery gardens, albi epihypogleyic luvisols, which are rich in carbonates. During the test, dynamics of growth of the vaccine, the height of the vaccine, shaft diameter, leaf weight and leaf area were all measured. In addition to that, high-quality vaccines yield was also calculated. Work analysis - the analysis of test's data showed that the length of the most intense growth period of vaccine depends on the species and cropping systems. The highest growth level in a year's period was achieved by 'Viktorija' seedlings and the thickest were 'Early Gold' vaccines. 'Kometa' had the biggest leaf area and mass. So in conclusion – the growth quality of first year's trees depends on the cropping system as much as the individual growth properties of the species.

Pełny tekst źródłaAs a result of ongoing urbanization, natural conditions for rain and meltwater to infiltrate in the ground and regress to the natural water cycle have disappeared in cities. About half of the stormwater in Stockholm is transported through the municipal water sewerage system directly to sewage treatment works. The flow of stormwater varies vigorously, causing flow peaks that overburden the system and treatment works. The aim should be to handle and use the stormwater locally instead of releasing it to the system. The focus of this bachelor thesis is how stormwater from a soon to be built construction project in Stockholm can be handled. The project, PARK 1, is designed by the architectural firm White Arkitekter and is set to be BREEAM certified and to reach the classification outstanding. Therefore, sustainable use of land and water resources is one of the key matters in the project. The purpose of the study is to rework a existing design proposal for the rooftop garden planed on PARK1 and present solutions for stormwater usage. Consideration must be taken to future climate changes, coordination among disciplines and accessibility. The work was conducted mainly through literature studies and complemented by discussions and site visits to reference projects. AutoCAD, SketchUp and Photoshop were used to illustrate plans and details of the park proposal with its plantations, activities and technical solutions. Estimations of the quantity of roof outlets and dimensions of vertical downpipes were made for 100-year rain conditions. Through quantitative analysis of precipitation statistics the expected precipitation were calculated. Which after runoff covers the irrigation needs of the park and 25 percent of the water needed for flushing of the buildings WC:s. The runoff surface is altered from being a parking lot where all stormwater ends up in the municipal water sewerage, to a rooftop garden where all of the stormwater is handled locally. This allows stormwater to be transformed into wastewater on sight, thereby contributing to a steady flow in sewer pipes in addition to help lower the buildings fresh water consumption.
