Urgency of the research. Modern trends in the automation focus on the implementation of new technologies in people's daily lives, regardless of whether they are healthy or not. The overall health status monitoring became easier nowadays by developing intelligent wearable devices.Target setting. Wearable devices must be non-invasive, comfortable,very light, and with unobtrusive design. The latest technological solutions in microcontroller, communication and sensing technologies provide significant advantages in terms of wireless monitoring of various parameters.Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. When preparing this article, various publicly available journals, datasheets and experimental solutions were analyzed. Conclusions of other experiments were used to create the knowledge base on this research topic as well.Uninvestigated parts of general matters defining. There are many technologies for sensing various physiological param-eters and for communication that work online and offline from various vendors. This paper is not enough to describe and analyze them.The re search objective. In this article, the design factors and concepts of wearable monitoring systems were analyzed. The results of the article form the basis for further development of an integrated complex wearable device with an identification system.The statement of basic materials.People should be monitored to predict future infections or prevent the spread of the disease. The use of compact solutions in health monitoring, such as sensors, microcontrollers with integrated communication technologies,provide a good basis for solving such problems as necessary monitoring of physiological condition.Conclusions. The proposed paper deals with the properties that need to be assumed when designing a carrier device. The proposed system can provide useful information about the user's health, and the aim of the design was to find the cheapest solution for university environment.

AbstractComparing the propensity for risk in concepts with little commonality, such as different working principles, different number of functions and components, is challenging to achieve in a systematic and traceable manner. This paper builds on the Function Integrity Diagnosis and Documentation method to introduce a Function Integrity indicator as a means to quantitatively compare dissimilar design concepts based on risk assessment. The proposed indicator is intended to support designers converge on a suitable design concept based on considerations of risk to concept functions.

It appears that the focus of occupational therapy on function has moved away from the concept to centre on assessments. Conceptual debate concerning function has been muted and lost in the technicalities of the measurement process and measurement theory. Numerous reviews of functional assessments have recently appeared in the occupational therapy literature.1–5 Current discussions appear to be driven by technical issues, such as the demonstration of the reliability and validity of specific measures, rather than the extent to which the design and structure of the measures form the most appropriate conceptualisation of function. A re-centring of this issue towards conceptual discussions and away from measurement technicalities is highly desirable. The purpose of this article is to review the ways function is currently perceived and to raise many of the questions that the profession must debate and resolve regarding this issue.

AbstractFunction is an ambiguous concept, whereas having explicit and precise concepts is critical for building a systematic science of engineering design. Based on Bunge's scientific ontology, this paper is devoted to developing an explicit and precise concept of function for design science. First, we attempt to clarify the concept of behavior, which is closely related to function and is also shown as an ambiguous concept in engineering. Second, the concept of action is imported from scientific ontology into design science. Third, a scientific ontology based concept of function is proposed, together with an ontology-based functional taxonomy. A case of a function definition of a civil aircraft type demonstrates that the proposed concept of function is more explicit and precise than previous ones, and it can lead to better functional design results.

AbstractThe natural world provides numerous cases for inspiration in engineering design. Biological organisms, phenomena, and strategies, which we refer to as biological systems, provide a rich set of analogies. These systems provide insight into sustainable and adaptable design and offer engineers billions of years of valuable experience, which can be used to inspire engineering innovation. This research presents a general method for functionally representing biological systems through systematic design techniques, leading to the conceptualization of biologically inspired engineering designs. Functional representation and abstraction techniques are used to translate biological systems into an engineering context. The goal is to make the biological information accessible to engineering designers who possess varying levels of biological knowledge but have a common understanding of engineering design. Creative or novel engineering designs may then be discovered through connections made between biology and engineering. To assist with making connections between the two domains concept generation techniques that use biological information, engineering knowledge, and automatic concept generation software are employed. Two concept generation approaches are presented that use a biological model to discover corresponding engineering components that mimic the biological system and use a repository of engineering and biological information to discover which biological components inspire functional solutions to fulfill engineering requirements. Discussion includes general guidelines for modeling biological systems at varying levels of fidelity, advantages, limitations, and applications of this research. The modeling methodology and the first approach for concept generation are illustrated by a continuous example of lichen.

The field of applied spectroscopy is strongly dominated by publications presenting proof-of-concepts, lab set-ups, and demonstrations. In contrast, the corresponding number of commercial successes of inline spectroscopy is surprisingly lower. This article discusses inline spectroscopy from an instrumentation perspective. It is the authors' firm belief that the success of inline spectroscopy lies in the understanding of how the design and implementation of the optical instrumentation affects the data quality, and how this in turn will limit or enhance the performance of the prediction model. This article emphasizes the need for a strong, multidisciplinary design team, whose design process is rooted in first principles, to bridge the technology “valley of death” and convert research in applied spectroscopy into commercially successful solutions.

Treating this type of concepts correctly is done with the theory of generalized functions, it´s properties are outside the framework of the properties of conventional functions. This study explores understanding of function concept amongst 310 grade 11 science stream students in one administrative zone of Ethiopia. A test that included tasks given in different representations, about definition, about examples of functions in word description and applications of properties of functions was administered. Lesson observation and interview was also used for triangulation. Results have shown that limited mental image of approach to functions, fragmented conceptions and dependence on ordered pairs, limitation in algebraic manipulation, limitation on converting word expression into mathematical expressions, confusing combination and composition, unnecessary interchanging order of operations during algebraic manipulations and drawing graph without considering sufficient points were observed difficulties. Whereas, a relation is a function if it has algebraic expression, overgeneralization that a representation is a functions if it is symbolized as an ordered pairs, and considering every point of discontinuity as an asymptote were identified misconceptions. Thus, special attention should be given in the teaching-learning to overcome identified difficulties and misconceptions.

AbstractThe penultimate chapter of Alvin Plantinga's Warrant and Proper Function attacks metaphysical naturalism through an argument which concludes that only a supernaturalistic worldview can accommodate the indispensable concept of proper function. I make the case that this argument, which I dub ‘the argument from proper function’, suffers from two major flaws. First, it underestimates the naturalist's ability to ground natural proper function ascriptions in the concept of health. Second, it relies upon an overly stringent standard for successful conceptual analysis; ironically, the naturalist can undercut the argument by adopting Plantinga's own recommended model for analysing concepts.

This paper presents a corpus-based approach to investigating the function of metaphor, specifically to the question whether the use of metaphorical language is motivated primarily by stylistic considerations or by cognitive principles. The paper focuses on concepts that can be expressed alternatively by a literal or a metaphorical linguistic expression with the same structural properties. Such expressions can be individual words (such asgraspandunderstand, which can both encode the concept UNDERSTAND), or fixed phrases (such asin the heart ofandin the center of, which can both encode the concept IN THE CENTER OF). It turns out that a comparison of the distinctive collocates of the literal and the metaphorical variant in each case provides clear evidence for the hypothesis that metaphorical language has a cognitive function.

Many branches of science have been examining the concept of multifunctional agriculture. Different interpretations have come into being on global and regional dimensions as well. This study deals with certain interpretations of the concept of multifunctional agriculture. It compares the concepts about multifunctional agriculture of the United States, the Cairns-group, the least developed countries (the LDC-s), as well as the developed countries which import food (the G10), the concept of the EU and Hungary too. It states that the different approaches to the concept have been started by the agricultural problems which are typical of certain areas. These problems have been formed in each and every area by the threefold functions (economic, social and ecological), which are characteristics of rural areas.

There are two general approaches to characterising biological functions. One originates with Cummins. According to this approach, the function of a part of a system is just its causal contribution to some specified activity of the system. Call this the ‘C-function’ (or ‘Cummins function’) concept. The other approach ties the function of a trait to some aspect of its evolutionary significance. Call this the ‘E-function’ (or ‘evolutionary function’) concept. According to the latter view, a trait's function is determined by the forces of natural selection. The C-function and E-function concepts are clearly quite different, but there is an important relation between them which heretofore has gone unnoticed. The purpose of this paper is to outline that relation.This is not the first paper to discuss the relation of C-function and E-function. Previous attempts all follow either one of two strategies. The article examines the modern purpose of finance through their functions in accordance with the law and the strategic policy of the state, including in emergency situations. According to the author, the purpose of finance is manifested in the distribution, control, regulatory, informational and stabilization function of finance. The distribution function of finance is fundamental. The state accumulates funds in public funds in order to subsequently distribute them according to public needs. In modern conditions, there is a complication of the control function of finance, its important component is the control over the implementation of financial transactions carried out using digital technologies and technical means. In this regard, the information function of finance is now very relevant, since finance is an important source of financially significant information when making management decisions. The regulatory function of finance is associated with government intervention in the allocation of government spending, in the implementation of preferential taxation, in the provision of subsidies, or vice versa, in increasing tax pressure and other restrictions. The stabilization function of finance is that the main task of the state should be the formation of a stable political, economic and social situation in the country, providing all business entities with a real opportunity to carry out legitimate entrepreneurial activity, creating socio-economic conditions for personal development. It is concluded that the modern understanding and purpose of finance requires scientific understanding as special financial relations arising on the basis of legal norms and in accordance with strategic financial policies aimed at strengthening the human potential and socio-economic development of the state in the new conditions of digital management contouring.

The virtually multiple mouse wheels is a new input device; however, as it has not yet been supported by application software, the left scroll and right scroll can only operate a few software functions. In this study, computer software is combined with a virtually multiple mouse wheel to intercept left and right scroll signals in the background, which are converted into the start signal of software and sent to the application software in order that software functions can be operated. The left scroll and right scroll operate the preset function, and the user software interface implemented in this study enables the user to set the function to be operated, thus, meeting different users' requirements. In addition, the software interface can detect the software of the mouse cursor, and the mouse wheel function is automatically adjusted according to the software. This mouse wheel not only senses the different scroll positions of the finger, it also automatically distinguishes different software environments, which provides diversified software function responses, thus, it is called the intelligent mouse wheel.

There have been a few attempts to develop the concept of a Shilov boundary for real algebras, [4], [6] and [7]. But there seems to be none to develop the concept of Choquet boundary for real algebras.The aim of this paper is to develop the theory of Choquet boundary of a real function algebra (see Definition (1.8)) along the lines of the corresponding theory for a complex function algebra.In the first section we define a real-part representing measure for a continuous linear functional ϕ on a real function algebra A with the property ║ϕ║ = 1 = ϕ(1). The elements of A are functions on a compact, Hausdorff space X. The Choquet boundary is then defined as the set of those points x ∊ X such that the real part of the evaluation functional, Re(ex), has a unique real part representing measure.

Abstract Many translation theorists have adopted a functional approach to translation in an attempt to guide and explain the difficult choices a translator must make. This paper argues that it is the function of the translation, and not the functions of language or the function of the source text, that is the translator's guiding force. Having defined the function of translation as the application or use which the translation is intended to have in the context of the target situation, various functions that a literary translation may serve are examined. Finally, using the criteria of functions of language, functions of (source) text and functions of translation, an attempt is made to show that the type and degree of coincidence between the formal manifestations of the functions of language in the source text, the function of the source text and the translation depend on the precise function of the latter.

Shukra Sara person is known to possess unctuous (Snigdha), compact (Samhat) and white (Shweta) bones (Asthi), teeth (Danta), nails (Nakha), and children (Bahula Kamapraja). Shukra Dhatu is one of Pranayatanas of Sharira, from this information we can understand the importance of Shukradhatu. Therefore, this study was taken into consideration which has main objectives to review the concept of presence of Shukra Dhatu in the body without any sexual discrimination and its functions all over body.

As design problems become more complex and design lead time more pressing, designers need effective support tools to expand their design space exploration. In this paper, a hierarchical coevolutionary approach is proposed to support designers by automatically generating design concepts based on the designers’ inputs. The approach adopts a zigzag design process in which function structures and their corresponding solution principles coevolve in parallel across different levels of an abstraction hierarchy. A grammar-based approach is applied to decompose higher-level functions and generate an initial population of function structures. From this initial population, a coevolutionary algorithm is devised to coevolve more function structures and their corresponding solution principles. A case study of designing a mechanical personal transporter is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and features of the proposed approach.

For business-to-business (B2B) companies, selecting new product concepts is vital to new product development (NPD), since it significantly contributes to the ultimate success and reputation of the product in terms of quality and function. The research problem is defining the best solution of new product’s design concept selection within high competition and resources’ limitation by mathematical approaches. The main objective of this study is developing an integrated analytical approach, combining quality function deployment (QFD) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach, and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to enhance the effectiveness of design product decisions. The proposed approach focuses on mathematical methods to comprehensively evaluate and strategically select the best new product concept while considering the features of the B2B product and the available information during concept selection. The best new concept is selected by the combined scores derived from the concept competitiveness (quality function deployment—analytic hierarchy process) and the design development efficiency (data envelopment analysis). Finally, the design alternatives are classified into four categories by quadrant analysis for design concept management. The benefit of this approach—combining three mathematical models together for the best concept’s solution.
