Zilchogyra franzi was described on the basis of a single specimen (holotype in Fundación Miguel Lillo: FML 1217, Fig. 1) from the Ventania mountain system (Weyrauch 1965b) and this was so far the only publication on this species. Weyrauch (1965b) described the shell and gave a brief account of the habitat, based on the information provided by the collector Dr. Herbert Franz. Franz had found Z. franzi in a ravine in Sierra de la Ventana, in a humid hollow in the rock, lined with dark soil with ferns and “bromeliads” (probably Eryngium spp., Apiaceae).

Based on examination of its type species, Coatesia Lea is placed as a junior synonym of the nominotypical subgenus of Cephennodes Reitter. In order to avoid secondary homonymy with Cephennodes latus (Motschulsky), Coatesia lata Lea is replaced with Cephennodes leai nomen n. Neseuthia Scott is placed as a junior synonym of Cephennomicrus Reitter. Diagnostic characters of Cephennomicrus are discussed, and a world checklist of 50 species currently recognized as belonging to this genus is provided. The following new combinations are established for species formerly placed in Neseuthia: Cephennomicrus affouchensis (Franz), C. afiamalui (Franz), C. anderssoni (Franz), C. asperus (Franz), C. cactiformis (Jałoszyński & Hoshina), C. caledonicus (Franz), C. cordithorax (Scott), C. cornutus (Scott), C. crenatus (Scott), C. dugdalei (Franz), C. fijii (Franz), C. fujianus (Jałoszyński), C. gomyi (Franz), C. hobbiti (Jałoszyński & Hoshina), C. inconspicuus (King), C. japonigenus (Jałoszyński & Hoshina), C. lauensis (Franz), C. lordhowei (Franz), C. mauritiensis (Franz), C. minimus (Franz), C. minor (Scott), C. nomurai (Jałoszyński & Hoshina), C. okinawanus (Jałoszyński, S. Arai & K. Arai), C. perexiguus (Scott), C. perthi (Franz), C. politus (Scott), C. samoanus (Franz), C. sumatranus (Franz), C. taiwanensis (Jałoszyński), C. typicus (Scott), C. upoluensis (Franz), C. venuensis (Franz), C. vitiensis (Franz), and C. zimmermani (Franz). Cephennomicrus insularis nomen n. is proposed as a replacement name for C. suturalis (Franz) comb. n. (nec Besuchet); C. perpuncillum Reitter is corrected to C. perpunctillus, and Neseuthia sumatrensis Franz is treated as an incorrect original spelling. Based on examination of the type material, Cephennium raffrayi Schaufuss is transferred to Cephennomicrus. Lectotypes are designated for Coatesia lata and Neseuthia typica.

Euconnus brunneus Franz is placed in Tridensius gen. n.; Euconnus sibyllensis Franz in Sibylloconnus gen. n.; Euconnus fimbriatulus Reitter in Protandroconnus Franz; Euconnus johnsoni Franz in Amimoscydmus Jałoszyński; and Scydmaenus asserculatus L.W. Schaufuss (placed in Euconnus by Csiki and Franz) in Venezolanoconnus Franz. Each species is redescribed: Tridensius brunneus (Franz) comb. n., Sibylloconnus sibyllensis (Franz) comb. n., Protandroconnus fimbriatulus (Reitter) comb. n., Amimoscydmus johnsoni (Franz) comb. n., and Venezolanoconnus asserculatus (L.W. Many species currently placed in Sciacharis Broun were once included in Euconnus Thomson, and their taxonomic history is complicated due to diffuse and overlapping diagnoses of both genera applied by previous authors, numerous virtually unjustified transfers of species between them, and hundreds of species not assigned to any subgenus. Based on comparative morphological studies of respective type species, we clarify the status of Allomaoria Franz, Austroconophron Franz, Magellanoconnus Franz, Neuraphoconnus Franz and Valdivioconnus Franz. All of them, except for Neuraphoconnus, were originally described as subgenera of Euconnus, later transferred to Sciacharis. Austroconophron is removed from synonymy with Sciacharis s. str. and resurrected as subgenus of Euconnus (resulting in Euconnus (Austroconophron Franz, status rest.); Allomaoria is retained as a junior synonym of Sciacharis s. str.; Magellanoconnus is removed from Sciacharis and restituted as genus (resulting in Magellanoconnus Franz, status rest.); Anthicimimus Franz, previously removed from subgenus of Sciacharis and elevated to genus rank, is reduced to subgenus of Magellanoconnus (resulting in Magellanoconnus (Anthicimimus stat. rev.); Neuraphoconnus is removed from synonymy with Magellanoconnus and resurrected as genus (resulting in Neuraphoconnus Franz, status rest.); and Valdivioconnus is transferred from subgenus of Sciacharis to subgenus of Microscydmus Saulcy & Croissandeau (resulting in Microscydmus (Valdivioconnus Franz, status rev.). The only Australian species of Magellanoconnus is transferred to Kangarooconnus Jałoszyński, gen. n. (resulting in Kangarooconnus carinifrons (Franz), comb. n.). A complete checklist of 302 species and subspecies previously or currently placed in Sciacharis (including 102 restituted and 50 new combinations) is given. Three replacement names are proposed for secondary homonyms resulted from new combinations: Euconnus (Austroconophron) caledonensides Newton, nom. n. (for Euconnus caledonensis Franz, 1986, not Euconnus caledonensis Franz, 1979); Magellanoconnus (s. str.) castrianus Jałoszyński & Newton, nom. n. (for Magellanoconnus castrii (Franz, 1967: 636), not Magellanoconnus castrii (Franz, 1967: 614)); and Sciacharis (Sciacharis) bryantides Newton, nom. n. (for Euconnus bryanti Franz, 1975, not Euconnus bryanti Lhoste, 1939). Lectotypes are designated (des. Jałoszyński) for Euconnus tindoui Franz, 1971, Phagonophana lanosa Broun, 1885, and Neuraphoconnus caledonicus Franz, 1971.

The large 'Euconnus complex' of genera includes Cyrtoscydmini with long, slender and strongly projecting mesoventral intercoxal process. Diagnoses of individual genera, including that of Euconnus Thomson, are exceptionally poorly defined and need to be revised. In the first part of this revision a detailed morphology of Euconnus s. str. is described and illustrated, based on the type species of the genus. Two Neotropical members of the complex, genera Euconnomorphus Franz and Venezolanoconnus Franz are revised; their morphology is described and diagnoses re-defined. Euconnomorphus pilosissimus Franz, Venezolanoconnus andinus Franz, V. caracasensis Franz and V. ranchoi Franz are redescribed. Venezolanoconnus minor Franz is transferred to Euconnus, resulting in Euconnus (incertae sedis) minor (Franz), comb. n.

Doch der Text Die Fliege basiert auf der gleichnamigen, 1957 erschienen Kurzgeschichte des britischen Schriftstellers und Jour­nalisten George Langelaan. In dieser Analyse wird die Verbindung zwischen den Arbei­ten von Kafka, Langelaan und Cronenberg aufgezeigt.

O presente ensaio procura se aproximar da zooliteratura de Franz Kafka para caracterizarmos o que chamamos de subjetividades desérticas. Com a noção de subjetividades desérticas procuramos enfatizar a construção da subjetividade como algo permanentemente instável como uma miragem no deserto. Esta instabilidade ontológica tão móvel quanto andar com os pés na areia se caracteriza pela forma-plástica e a forma-morte. Nesse sentido, Kafka nos ajuda a adentrar nessa instabilidade com seus personagens, seja um homem que um dia acorda um inseto, ou ainda, um macaco que se transforma em um homem.

Based on examination of the type specimens, the Brazilian Pseudoeudesis brasiliensis and Chilean Ps. castrii are removed from Scydmaenini and transferred to genera of Glandulariini: Heteroscydmus and Anthicimimus, respectively. Lectotypes for both species are designated. Heteroscydmus brasiliensis comb. n. and Anthicimimus castrii comb. n. are redescribed. Minor differences in morphological structures between the newly transferred species and previously known Heteroscydmus and Anthicimimus are discussed and regarded as representing character variability within genera. All non-Palaearctic species previously placed in Pseudoeudesis (and in Scydmaenini) are now placed in four genera of Glandulariini (Afroeudesis, Oreoeudesis, Heteroscydmus and Anthicimimus), and it can be concluded that Pseudoeudesis is restricted to the Mediterranean basin and does not occur in the Southern Hemisphere.

Microconnus Franz, previously treated as a subgenus of Euconnus Thomson, is placed as a subgenus of Napoconnus Franz. Morphological structures of all species included in Microconnus are reviewed and illustrated, and Euconnus canaimanus Franz, Euconnus conulus Franz, and Euconnus janauari O’Keefe are placed as members of Napoconnus (Microconnus), while Euconnus (Microconnus) fulgurans Franz is placed in Euconnus (incertae sedis) (near Napochus Thomson). Emended diagnosis of Napoconnus and a key to identify its subgenera are given.

Subgenera of the speciose ant-like stone beetle genus Stenichnus Thomson are revised. The genus is re-classified and only two subgenera are retained: Stenichnus s. str. and Scydmaenichnus Reitter. Two remaining subgenera, Austrostenichnus Franz and Scydmaenilla King, are elevated to the genus rank (the status of Scydmaenilla, originally described as a genus and later reduced to a subgenus of Stenichnus, is restored). Two species occurring in New Zealand, Stenichnus insignis (Broun) and Stenichnus kuschelianus Franz, previously classified in Stenichnus (Austrostenichnus), are placed in a separate genus Zeanichnus gen. nov. (with Scydmaenus insignis Broun as a type species). Scydmaenilla is divided into two subgenera: Scydmaenilla s. str. and Scydmaenillunia subg. nov. (with Scydmaenilla adelaidensis Franz as a type species). Lectotypes are designated for Stenichnus (Scydmaenichnus) fossifrons Reitter, Scydmaenilla pusilla King and Scydmaenilla constricta Lea. All Australo-Pacific species, previously placed in Stenichnus, are redescribed: Austrostenichnus caledonicus Franz (New Caledonia), Zeanichnus insignis (Broun) comb. nov. (New Zealand), Zeanichnus kuschelianus (Franz) comb. nov. (New Zealand), Scydmaenilla (s. str.) pusilla King, stat. rest. (Australia), S. (s. str.) constricta Lea, stat. rest. (Tasmania), S. The Comoé National Park (CNP), located in the north-eastern part of the Ivory Coast, is strongly influenced by the river Comoé, which is eponymous for the park. Gallery forests along the river, forest islands, open grasslands, bush and tree savannas of various densities offer diverse habitats that harbor both forest and savannah praying mantis species. We present a preliminary checklist of praying mantids (Insecta: Mantodea) of the CNP. Specimens were collected in 2000 and 2017‒2019, resulting in 35 species in 13 families. Two species, Ischnomantis werneri (Giglio-Tos 1916) and Solygia sulcatifrons (Audinet-Serville 1838), were recorded for the first time in Ivory Coast. Additional 47 species, which are expected to occur in the CNP, are listed here.

Status of four Afrotropical subgenera of Euconnus Thomson is clarified. Examination of the type species of Cephaloconnus Franz, Cerviconnus Franz, Ursoconnus Franz and Nodoconnus Franz led to the following conclusions: i) Cephaloconnus and Cerviconnus are placed as junior synonyms of Napochus Thomson; ii) Ursoconnus is placed as a junior synonym of Euconophron Reitter; iii) Nodoconnus is maintained as a valid name and a subgenus of Euconnus. An emended diagnosis and redescription of Nodoconnus is given, and the lectotype is designated for its type species, Euconnus gomyanus Franz.

A major parameter controlling the extent and rate of oral drug absorption is permeability through the lipid bilayer of intestinal epithelial cells. Here, a biomimetic artificial membrane permeability assay (Franz–PAMPA Pampa) was validated using a Franz cells apparatus. Both high and low permeability drugs (metoprolol and mannitol, respectively) were used as external standards. Biomimetic properties of Franz–PAMPA were also characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). Moreover, the permeation profile for eight Biopharmaceutic Classification System (BCS) model drugs cited in the FDA guidance and another six drugs (acyclovir, cimetidine, diclofenac, ibuprofen, piroxicam, and trimethoprim) were measured across Franz–PAMPA. Apparent permeability (Papp) Franz–PAMPA values were correlated with fraction of dose absorbed in humans (Fa%) from the literature. Papp in Caco-2 cells and Corti artificial membrane were likewise compared to Fa% to assess Franz–PAMPA performance. Mannitol and metoprolol Papp values across Franz–PAMPA were lower (3.20 × 10−7 and 1.61 × 10−5 cm/s, respectively) than those obtained across non-impregnated membrane (2.27 × 10−5 and 2.55 × 10−5 cm/s, respectively), confirming lipidic barrier resistivity. Performance of the Franz cell permeation apparatus using an artificial membrane showed acceptable log-linear correlation (R2 = 0.664) with Fa%, as seen for Papp in Caco-2 cells (R2 = 0.805). Data support the validation of the Franz–PAMPA method for use during the drug discovery process.

Euconnus campestris volkmeri Franz, 1967 described from Brasil is treated as a valid subspecies pending further study. The lectotype is designated for Scydmaenus campestris Schaufuss, 1866.
