Streszczenie:
A spectral element method for analyzing wave propagation in multiply connected plates oriented at arbitrary angles is presented. These plate elements may be joined to model structures with stiffeners, open or closed thin-walled tubes, corrugated plates, channels, and ducts. The element models exactly both in-plane and out-of-plane responses over large domains. Results for point impact of a plate with stringers and a thin-walled box beam show excellent agreement with finite element solutions.

Streszczenie:
An element-free Galerkin method for the solution of free vibration of symmetrically laminated folded plate structures is introduced. Employing the mature meshfree folded plate model proposed by the author, a folded laminated plate is simulated as a composite structure of symmetric laminates that lie in different planes. Based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the moving least-squares (MLS) approximation, the stiffness and mass matrices of the laminates are derived and supposed to obtain the stiffness and mass matrices of the entire folded laminated plate. The equation governing the free vibration behaviors of the folded laminated plate is thus established. Because of the meshfree characteristics of the proposed method, no mesh is involved to determine the stiffness and mass matrices of the laminates. Therefore, the troublesome remeshing can be avoided completely from the study of such problems as the large deformation of folded laminated plates. The calculation of several numerical examples shows that the solutions given by the proposed method are very close to those given by ANSYS, using shell elements, which proves the validity of the proposed method.

Streszczenie:
The discrete-Kirchhoff Mindlin quadrilateral (DKMQ) element has recently been developed for analysis of composite laminated plates. This paper presents further development of the DKMQ for analysis of composite laminated folded plates. In this development, a local coordinate system is set up for each element at its centroid. The DKMQ stiffness matrix is superimposed with that of the standard four-node plane stress quadrilateral element to obtain a 24-by-24 folded plate stiffness matrix in the local coordinate system. To avoid singularity of the stiffness matrix, a small stiffness coefficient is added in the entries corresponding to the drilling degrees of freedom. The local stiffness matrix and force vector are then transformed to the global ones and assembled. The accuracy and convergence of the folded plate element are assessed using a number of numerical examples. The results show that the element is accurate and converge well to the reference solutions.

The eigenfunctions of a continuous beam are found numerically. The folded plate type of finite strip with intermediate supports is formulated by combining such an eigenfunction in the longitudinal direction with an appropriate finite element shape function in the transverse direction. The numerical examples given in this paper, such as the continuous beam and plate, demonstrate the advantages of this method: simplicity, accuracy, and convenience. Streszczenie:
Persistence of research was towards the behaviour of folded plate. In this project, we used GGBS blended ferrocement concrete to cover a folded plate 600 mm x 1800 mm x 150 mm. Ferro cement is a building material that is emerging as an alternative for traditional RCC. According to prior research, folded plates are the most cost-effective and visually acceptable option for longer span roofs. First, we built the folded plate model in ANSYS and investigated its behaviour in terms of load versus deflection. Later, for experimental purposes, we cast a folded plate coated with GGBS mixed ferrocement concrete. The results of the experimental inquiry demonstrate that there was an improvement in flexural behaviour when compared to the traditional model. The same was verified using ANSYS findings. ANSYS analysis aids in comparing and summarising experimental data. Both the analytical and experimental inquiry results show that ferro cement structures are a good alternative to RCC since they are less costly and lighter. Because folded plates retain their effectiveness for a longer length of time when Ferro cement is utilised. Ferro cement has made the components smaller to support the load because ferro cement parts are high in stress when reinforcement is spread.

Streszczenie:
Free vibration analysis of L-shaped folded thin plates having various boundary conditions is presented. Vibration properties of the folded plates are analyzed by means of the Ritz method. Displacement functions satisfying the geometric boundary conditions are assumed in the form of double power series. The interconnection of plate elements of the folded plates is defined by translational and rotational coupling springs. The generalized eigenvalue problem, which is derived by means of minimizing the energy functional, is solved to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The accuracy and validity of the present solutions are demonstrated through convergence studies and comparisons with the results from the literature and FEM (finite element method) analysis solutions. Numerical results are presented for different conditions, such as width ratio, length ratio and the four types of boundary condition.

Streszczenie:
The structural behaviour of sandwich plate structures are characterized by transverse shear deformations in the core. The assumed stress hybrid finite element technique is particularly suitable for developing sandwich plate bending elements. In the present study, rectangular three-layer sandwich plate elements have been formulated using simple assumed stress functions. Numerical test problems have been solved to examine the convergence property and suitability of these elements. The results are compared with that of a complete quadratic stress mode element and with analytical solutions. Six degrees of freedom per node shell elements are formulated by combining the plate bending elements with membrane elements. A folded plate sandwich panel roof has been analyzed using these elements and the results are compared with the experimental values. The use of simple stress function gives satisfactory results and reduces the size of the matrices to be used, the length of the program, and the computation time for the formulation of element stiffness matrices. Key words: sandwich panel, structural analysis, finite element method, stress hybrid approach, folded plates.

A nine-noded Lagrangian plate bending finite element that incorporates first-order transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia is used to predict the free and forced vibration response of laminated composite folded plate structures. A 6 × 6 transformation matrix is derived to transform the system element matrices before assembly. The usual five degrees-of-freedom per node is appended with an additional drilling degree of freedom in order to fit the transformation. The present finite element results show good agreement with the available semi-analytical solutions and finite element results. Parametric studies are conducted for free and forced vibration analysis for laminated folded plates, with reference to crank angle, fibre angle and stacking sequence. The natural frequencies and mode shapes, and forced vibration responses furnished here may serve as a benchmark for future investigations.

A reinforced concrete folded plate space structure of span 28 m and clear height 9·4 m was constructed as a games hall. The structure was analysed using the finite element method. At the design stage, model tests were carried out to check the accuracy of the method of analysis. To assess the behaviour of the actual structure subject to its self-weight, strains and deflections were monitored during construction both before and after removal of formwork. The tests confirmed that results given by the finite element analysis are of sufficient accuracy for the purpose of design, irrespective of the assumptions involved.

In this paper, the static and free vibration analyses of the sandwich folded plate modeled by layer-wise (LW) theory are studied. In the theory, the continuity displacement condition is imposed at the layer’s interfaces. Each layer of the plate is modeled by the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The numerical solutions are obtained by using the cellbased smoothed discrete shear gap method (CS-DSG3). Some examples are implemented to demonstrate the accuracy of the LW theory for the sandwich folded plate analyses.

In this paper, a general finite strip is developed for the static and vibration analyses of folded plate structures. The geometric constraints of the folded plates, such as the conditions at the end and intermediate supports, are modelled by very stiff translational and rotational springs as appropriate. The complete Fourier series including the constant term are chosen as the longitudinal approximating functions for each of the displacements. As these displacement functions are more general in nature and independent of one another, they are capable of giving more accurate solutions. The potential problem of ill-conditioned matrices is investigated and the appropriate choice of the very stiff springs is also suggested. The formulation is done in such a way to obtain a unified approach, taking full advantage of the power of modern computers. A few numerical examples are presented for comparison with numerical results from published solutions or solutions obtained from the finite element method. The results show that this kind of strips is versatile, efficient and accurate for the static and vibration analyses of folded plates.

The optimal design of reinforced concrete folded plate structures under multiple loading conditions is presented. The design variables include geometrical quantities, like the thickness, dimensions of the structural members (plates), and topological parameters, which define the locations and the connectivity of such elements. The structural analysis required during the design process is performed by using the classical finite strip method and complex harmonic coupled finite strip method for the solution of the corresponding geometric nonlinear design problem. Some applications to the optimal design of prismatic folded plates show the effectiveness of the proposed procedures.

In the conventional semi-analytical finite strip analysis of folded plates, the boundary conditions and the intermediate support conditions must be satisfieda priori. In this research, free vibration analysis of epoxy-based laminated composite folded plate structures for thermal loads have been considered using finite element method. Eight noded isoparametric element with five degrees of freedom per node have been considered in the study. Folded plate formulation using 6 X 6 transformation matrix is applied to transform the element mass and stiffness matrices to global system matrices. Yang-Norris-Stavsky (YNS) theory along with rotary inertia have been used in the present formulation. Lamina material properties at elevated temperature have been used in the study. Parametric studies have been performed for laminated composite one-fold plate structure for various thicknesses, crank angle and fibre angle under different temperatures. Results reveal that rising thermal load reduces the stiffness of the structure considerably. As the presence of fold increases stiffness of the plate structures significantly, it can withstand increased temperature. Proper choice of fibre angle and thickness increases the stiffness of the structures thus making it more capable of resisting higher thermal load.

Streszczenie:
Joints are among the most widespread geologic structures as they are found in most each exposure of rock. They differ greatly in appearance, dimensions, and arrangement, besides they occur in quite different tectonic environments. This study is important because joints provide evidence on what kind of stress produced them (history of deformation) and also because they change the characteristics of the rocks in which they occur. The Measured data of joints from the studied area which are located in the high folded zone – Northeast of Iraq, were classified according to their relationship with the tectonic axes by projecting them stereographically using Schmidt net in GEOrient ver.9.5.0 software. The joint systems revealed the orientation of the major stress field that caused the area deformation. Two dominant joint systems were found in most stations of the studied area, which are hko>a (first place) and hko>b (second place). The main stress field direction from the joint’s classification is North East – South West which coincides with the opening of the red sea and the collision between Arabian and Iranian tectonic plates. The North West direction (which comes in the second place) it might be due to the rotational movement (counterclockwise) of the Arabian plate in addition to the effect of local stress in the area.

Streszczenie:
The article deals with methods of creating a rectangular wall-beam finite element with eight degrees of freedom per node and continuous stress fields along the boundaries. This effect is achieved by specifying displacement fields in the plane of the element in forms similar to those in finite elements of Bogner, Fox, and Schmitt plate. The article provides algebraic expressions for displacement forms; methods of forming reaction and stress matrices are also considered. Test calculations carried out with the help of “Computational mechanics” FEM complex have proved high efficiency of the finite element analysis performed. A rectangular shell finite element with twelve degrees of freedom per node was developed as a combination of membrane finite element and Bogner, Fox and Schmitt plate element.

Streszczenie:
A new mixed stress 4-node flat shell finite element, designed for the linear and nonlinear analysis of folded plate structures, is presented. The kinematics of the element is defined by 24 dofs with in- and out-of-plane displacements assumed to be quadratic, controlled by displacement and rotation parameters through an Allman like interpolation, and flexural rotations assumed to be bilinear. The assumed stress approximation, described within a local Cartesian frame aligned with the element orientation, is self-equilibrated and ruled by the minimum number of parameters. The element does not suffer from kinematical locking and rank defectiveness. Many numerical tests show the very good performance of the element.

Streszczenie:
The surface of the folded base of the platforms is an important geological boundary separating rock complexes formed in different geodynamic settings and characterized by different physical properties, which largely determine the patterns of formation of minerals in them. Therefore, determining the depth of its occurrence and morphology is not only theoretical, but also practical. Despite many years of studying the foundation of the west of the Turan Platform, there is no unity among geologists and geophysicists in their ideas about its structure, depth of occurrence and surface structure. In this regard, the aim of the work is to build a structural map of the surface of the foundation of the west of the Turan plate, to identify the main tectonic structures and their morphology. The construction is based on a comprehensive analysis of drilling materials and geophysical data. When drawing up the structural map, all the currently available geological and geophysical material was used, including data from drilling, gravity and magnetic surveys, and seismic surveys of various modifications, which made it possible to perform fairly detailed and reliable constructions. The article provides a detailed description of the surface structure of the folded base of the west Turan platform. The obtained results can be used in solving the issues of oil and gas potential of the studied territory. The folded base of the western Turan plate is a heterogeneous and heterochronous formation, differentiated by the depth of occurrence, which allows for morphostructural zoning of its surface.

Streszczenie:
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a key technology to realize IoT (Internet of Things) dreams. RFID technology has been emerging in sensing, identification, tracking, and localization of goods. In order to tag a huge number of things, it is cost-effective to use one RFID antenna for tagging different things. Therefore, in this paper a platform tolerant RFID tag antenna with tunable capability is proposed. The proposed tag antenna is designed and optimized using characteristic mode analysis (CMA). Moreover, this tag antenna consists of a folded patch wrapped around FR 4 substrate and a feeding loop element printed on a paper substrate. The inductive feeding loop is stacked over folded patch and it provides impedance match with RFID chip. Because of separate radiating and feeding element, this tag antenna has a versatility of impedance matching with any RFID chip. Furthermore, this tag is able to cover American RFID band (902–928 MHz) and can be tuned to European RFID band (865–868 MHz) by adding tunable strips. In order to demonstrate platform tolerant operation, the read range of RFID tag is measured by mounting it on different materials. The maximum read range of RFID tag is 4.5 m in free space or on dielectrics and 6.5 m above 200 × 200 mm2 metal plate, respectively.
