Streszczenie:
Fluid-structure interactions appear in many industrial applications in the field of energy technology. As the components are more and more pushed to higher performance, taking fluid-structure interaction phenomena into account has a great impact on the design as well as in the cost and safety. Internal flows related to propulsion systems in aerodynamics area are of our interest; and particularly aeroelasticity and flutter phenomena. A new 2D flexible generic model, so called bump, based on previous studies at the division of Heat and Power Technology about fluid-structure interactions is here presented. The overall goal is to enhance comprehension of flutter phenomenon. The current study exposes a preliminary experimental campaign regarding mechanical behaviour on two different test objects: an existing one made of polyurethane and a new one of aluminium. The setup is built in such a way that it allows the bumps to oscillate until 500Hz. The objective is to reach this frequency range by remaining in the first bending mode shape which is indeed considered as fundamental for flutter study. In this manner being as close as possible to the bending flutter configuration in high-subsonic and transonic flows will provide a deeper understanding of the shock wave boundary layer interaction and the force phase angle related to it. The results have pointed out that the bumps can reach a frequency of 250Hz by remaining in the first bending mode shape. The one in polyurethane can even reach frequency up to 350Hz; however, amplitude is higher than the theoretical one fixed to 0.5mm. Then unsteady pressure measurements for one operating point have been performed based on using recessed-mounted pressure transducers with Kulite fast response sensors. Variation amplitudes and phases of the unsteady pressure are thus correlated with the vibrations of the model. The operating point has been defined with respect to previous studies on the same static geometric model in order to use steady state base line; the steady flows appear consistent with each other. The results have pointed out that the shock wave induces strong amplification of the steady static pressure; however, this rise decreases when the reduced frequency increases. Finally some elements regarding propagating waves are suggested in the analysis for deeper investigations on such complex phenomena.

A 4-mm cooled tip catheter was compared to an 8-mm tip catheter to cavotricuspid isthmus(CTI) ablation. This prospective study enrolled 52 patients with typical atrial flutter to ablation with a closed cooled-tip catheter(group1) or an 8-mm tip catheter. Radiofrequency(RF) applications were performed to achieve complete CTI block wich was achieved in 51 patients. No significant differences were found in the procedure parameters. CTI ablation with an irrigated tip catheter versus an 8-mm tip catheter was equally effective and satisfactorily safe for ablation of typical atrial flutter.

Aerodynamic Analysis of Subsonic or Supersonic Flows in Response to a Prescribed Vibratory Mode of the Structure". Phd thesis, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, 2011. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00677648.

Streszczenie:
Modern turbomachines are designed towards thinner, lighter and highly loaded blades. This gives rise to increased sensitivity to flow induced vibrations such as flutter, which leads to structure failure in a short period of time if not sufficiently damped. Although numerical tools are more and more reliable, flutter prediction still depends on a large degree on simplified models. In addition, the critical nature of flutter, resulting in poor welldocumented real cases in the open literature, and the lack of experimental database typical of engine flows make its apprehension even more challenging. In that context, the present thesis is dedicated to study flutter in recent turbines through aerodynamic analysis of subsonic or supersonic flows in response to a prescribed vibratory mode of the structure. The objective is to highlight some mechanisms potentially responsible for flutter in order to be in better position when designing blades. The strategy consists in leading both experimental and numerical investigations. The experimental part is based on a worldwide unique annular turbine sector cascade employed for measuring the aeroelastic response by means of the aerodynamic influence coefficient technique. The cascade comprises seven low pressure gas turbine blades one of which can oscillate in a controlled way as a rigid body. Aeroelastic responses are measured at various mechanical and aerodynamic parameters: pure and combined modeshapes, reduced frequency, Mach number, incidence angle. In addition to turbulence level measurements, the database aims at assessing the influence of these parameters on the aerodynamic damping, at validating the linear combination principle and at providing input for numerical tools. The numerical part is based on unsteady computations linearized in the frequency domain and performed in the traveling wave mode. The focus is put on two industrial space turbines: 2D computations are performed on an integrally bladed disk, also called blisk; its very low viscous material damping results in complex motions with combined modes and extremely high reduced frequency. The blisk operates at low subsonic conditions without strong non-linearities. Although the blades have been predicted aeroelastically stable, an original methodology based on elementary decompositions of the blade motion is presented to identify the destabilizing movements. The results suggest that the so-called classical flutter is surprisingly prone to occur. Moreover, the aerodynamic damping has been found extremely sensitive to the interblade phase angle and cut-on/cut-off conditions.* 3D computations are then performed on a supersonic turbine, which features shockwaves and boundary layer separation. In contrast, the blade motion is of elementary nature, i.e. purely axial. The blades have been predicted aeroelastically unstable for backward traveling waves and stable for forward traveling waves. The low reduced frequencies allow quasi-steady analysis, which still account for flutter mechanisms: the shock wave motion establishes the boundary between stable and unstable configurations.

The development of hybrid mobile applications has increased rapidly in the last decade. Considering the diversity in how big companies starts to invest in frameworks that supports hybrid application development (cross-platform framework), the necessity of contemporary studies in this subject increase. Facebook and Google are two well-known companies that have developed React-Native and Flutter, respectively. These cross-platform frameworks are continuously developing, and differences occur in their technologies which makes new studies even more appropriate. The purpose of this study is to investigate which of these two frameworks contribute the most for the developer’s productivity considering the lack of studies in this specific subject. Specifically, a case study has been conducted where the research questions were answered.     The two research questions were divided into three sub questions, respectively where each question was given criteria to follow in the case study and each framework were assigned points if the associated criterion for each question were met. In the end of the study a mean value was assigned to each framework. The results showed that there are small differences in terms of its contribution for the developer’s productivity.

Resultatet presenterar mätningar i respektive prestandarelaterad variabel.
Today we see an increased trend around the interest in application development, and in our society there are over three billion smartphone users. Hybrid application development is something companies can no longer overlook because the benefits weigh heavily. The benefits with hybrid applications include the fact that it uses a multi-platform code base. This in turn leads to a significant saving of time and resources during the development process. The two hybrid frameworks chosen for a comparative purpose are Apache Cordova and Flutter, and the purpose is to identify which framework performs the best out of a performance perspective. The question answered in the study is: What framework for creating a hybrid application between Apache Cordova and Flutter, is recommended out of a performance perspective? The study measures performance-related variables, these are execution speed, start-up time, CPU, RAM and battery usage. The study does this by creating two functionally identical applications in each framework. Data collection takes place via Android Profiler, Logcat and own implemented code. The result shows measurements in each performance-related variable. Not only does the overall results show that Flutter is the faster performing framework but also the framework with a higher use of resources.

Streszczenie:
There exists a substantial lack of familiarity among flute teachers and music educators with extant publications of pertinent pedagogical flute repertoire at the intermediate level, specifically the concerto. Although readily available, suitable concerti for the important progression of the student from intermediate to the advanced level are often substituted with works too difficult technically and musically. In many situations, introduction and exposure to the concerto genre is virtually overlooked. Therefore, progression from an intermediate to an advanced level is often hampered, and a vital phase in the student's technical and musical development is neglected. This guide to intermediate-level concerti provides a systematic, methodical approach to the teaching of four concerti appropriate technically and musically for the established level of playing. The historical eras Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century are each represented by one concerto.Chapters II, III, IV, and V provide a description of the concerto's evolution during the particular historical era specified. This examination is followed by a brief biographical sketch of the composer whose work is being discussed. The significance of each concerto in the composer's output is provided when such information is available. A list of all current and accessible editions is provided along with information about individual editors. An editorial paleography is supplied when more than one edition exists. Each of these four chapters concludes with a formal analysis of the concerto under discussion.Chapter VI provides a plan for the teaching and performing of each concerto. This plan is divided into two headings. The first is a didactic analysis of the following technical considerations: alternate fingerings, arpeggiated passages, double tonguing, meter, rhythmic patterns, and trills. Parallel etudes drawn from existing flute literature and original exercises by the writer are supplied. The second major area of discussion within the pedagogical analysis comes under the heading of the following interpretative considerations: articulation, breathing/phrasing dynamics, ornamentation, and tempo. The final chapter of the work includes a summary, conclusions, and recommendations. Three appendices contain moderately easy to intermediate, and intermediate to moderately difficult flute concerti as well as a publisher and agent code list.

Streszczenie:
The purpose of this project was to examine aspects of flute choir formation, participation, and performance as they relate to ensembles at the university level. Three main areas were covered: (1) a presentation and an analysis of data resulting from a survey of colleges and universities that are members of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM); (2) a discussion of the advantages of establishing a college flute choir and the problems encountered in maintaining the ensemble; and (3) a presentation of various warm-up exercises that may be used in a flute choir rehearsal.Of the 449 flute choir questionnaires distributed, 120 (26.9%) were returned of which 71 (59.2%) were found to have existing flute choirs. A list of states represented by the respondents and twelve tables were presented. The tables included facts pertaining to the profile of the universities and music departments of the respondents, various structural elements of flute choirs, reasons for maintaining a university flute choir, and the relative importance of various warm-up exercises. The data presented in the tables included details regarding frequency and length of rehearsals, availability of E-•flat, alto, and bass flutes, number of concerts given, membership and audition requirements, and college credit offerings for university flute ensembles. Problems encountered in maintaining the ensemble, selection of repertoire, and preparation for performance were also covered. The reasons deemed most important for establishing or retaining a university flute choir include the development of chamber ensemble playing skills, individual playing skills, style interpretation, sight-reading skill, and the addition of a performance outlet. Warm-up exercises listed as the most often used in flute choir rehearsals include those for intonation, scales, and triads. Warm-up exercises that can be used in a flute ensemble setting to enhance the rehearsal routine are included and cover the following areas: Relaxation Techniques, Breathing, Tone Development, Intonation, Technical Exercises (Scales and Triads), Rhythmic Drills, and Sight-reading.From the statistics cited and the topics explored in this project, the premise is substantiated that the university flute choir is a viable performing ensemble and can also serve as an effective instructional medium.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This document focuses upon the past and present role of the Native American flute in the Southwestern United States, with the primary emphasis being placed upon the present-day use of the flute. Through this study, I hope to provide an evaluation of the Native American flute's musical significance (past and present use, and current literature and capabilities) that will lead to its possible inclusion into the Western curriculum of collegiate music scholarship, and contribute to a greater understanding of the instrument. In addition, through the information that is generated and disclosed by this exploration, it is hoped that the Native American flute may begin to gain an overall acceptance as an instrument of cultural and musical distinction and merit, specifically within the world of collegiate music education. This document is divided into chapters dealing with past and present uses of the Native American flute. The "Introduction" states the purpose, scope, and justification for this study. Chapter 1 describes the physical characteristics of the past and present-day Native American flute. Chapter 2 deals exclusively with the past traditions and functions of the flute. For example, selected myths from various tribes that employ the Native American flute are discussed. Also in Chapter 2, the past ceremonial and non-ceremonial functions of the Native American flute are detailed. Chapter 3 deals exclusively with the flute as it is used in today's world. Here, the rise in status of the flute is illustrated by discussing four prominent performers, their recordings, and approach to flute playing. They are as follows: Kelvin Bizahaloni, R. Carlos Nakai, John Rainer, Jr., and Ward Jene Stroud. Also, three composers who are presently creating repertoire for this instrument are discussed. They are James DeMars, Gina Genova, and Jay Vosk. Chapter 4 deals with the ways in which the Native American flute can be imported into the college music curriculum. Finally, Chapter 5 summarizes the document and provides ideas for further study.

Streszczenie:
Cristóbal Halffter, born in 1930, established himself as an important figure in Spanish avant-garde composition in the middle of the twentieth-century. As one of the prominent leaders of the Generación del 51, he helped establish modernity in music as a part of Spain's identity. His compositional style mixing tradition with the avant-garde was built on the success and breakthrough of Manuel de Falla, a composer with close ties to Halffter's family and served as a 'father figure' to the Generación del 51. This study begins with a discussion on Falla's work and reception, as he lay the groundwork for modernism in Spanish music. Further, discussion on Halffter's background and compositional periods, from his nationalist approach in the 1950s to his embrace of the avant-garde in the 1960s and beyond exemplifies Halffter's prominent role in shaping Spanish modernity. This research then sheds light on previously unexplored solo flute works Debla [Solo VI] for Flute and Studie II [Solo III] for Flute by Halffter. Provided is insight to their respective influences (the Spanish debla and the Fibonacci sequence), analysis of each work, and a discussion on their similarities and differences. By taking an informative approach prior to analysis and performance suggestions, readers will gain insight to Halffter's Spanish roots as they relate to nationalism and the avant-garde, his affiliation with the Generación del 51, and his compositional style.

The purpose of the present study is to gain insight into what influencesstudents´ choice of flute and continued participation in Swedish community music schools. Research on community music schools as well as the factors influencinginstrument choice among children and youths are presented in the background section. Positivism was applied as a theoretical lens for the present study. A total of 97 participants ranging from 7 to 22 years of age, filled out a cross sectional websurvey. The result has been analyzed with a univariate analysis where one variable is studied at a time. The results revealed that instrument trial days and knowing someone who plays flute were the most important factors determining the student´ perference for flute playing. Furthermore, the results revealed that students requested more frequent oportunities to play with others in bands or orchestras. In the discussion, five themes are raised: gender and instrument selection, importance of social contexts, the characteristics of the instrument, the impact of role models and the importance of the teacher.

This study also used a quantitative method in the form of a survey that was used to examine the field and for inspiration for the interview questions. The survey was directed to parents whose kids play the flute and was answered by 64 parents. The result of this study shows that parents experience their involvement in their kid’s flute playing by being involved in different ways for example by showing interest and to solve their kid’s problems that arise when the kid is playing the flute. The result also shows that parents experience challenges in their involvement with their kids playing the flute mostly because of their limited musical knowledge but also because of lack of time and energy. The conclusion of this study is that parents experience their involvement in their kid’s flute playing as variated but that the parent’s attitude and perception of music and the fact that their kids are playing the flute is throughout positive.

The purpose of this study is to map the occurrence of physical ailments among flute teachers in Swedish community schools of music and art, as well as their knowledge of, their use of and their teaching in ergonomics and injury prevention. The questions raised are how commonly occurring physical ailments are among flute teachers, whether or not they have received adequate knowledge in ergonomics for the profession they practice, if they work with preventive measures against physical ailments and to what extent they include ergonomics in their teaching. The study is a quantitative survey in the form of a web questionnaire. The results show that 49 % of the surveyed flute teachers suffer from physical ailments, which they connect to flute playing. The problems are mainly located in the shoulders, the neck and the back. 60 % of the flute teachers work with preventive measures against physical ailments, of which the most common everyday actions are regular breaks during flute practice and physical exercise on a regular basis. The most common ergonomic factors that teachers communicate to their pupils are practice routines, body posture, instrumental grip, stretching and relaxation exercises and the importance of physical training. The results also show that many flute teachers would want or need better knowledge of ergonomics, because music education generally prepares musicians poorly for the physical challenges of the professional life. In the concluding discussion is emphasized that healthcare needs to be better informed of musicians’ injuries for these to be prevented and cured, and music teachers’ working conditions require attention to minimize the number of injuries.

Fleming, Patrick Hugh. "Wind tunnel studies on rotational effects in lightly-iced transmission line galloping". 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1993/4017.

Streszczenie:
Overhead transmission lines are prone to undergo large amplitude, low frequency vibrations when exposed to freezing rain and steady side winds. These vibrations are referred to as galloping. They involve a dominant vertical motion in addition to twisting and horizontal swaying. Field reports indicate that the majority of galloping cases are associated with lightly-iced lines with thin ice accretions. Previous studies have failed to explain this trend satisfactorily. The present thesis involves a series of wind tunnel experiments to understand the rotational effects in lightly-iced transmission line galloping. The work to restore and upgrade the wind tunnel used for the experiments are also reported. Aerodynamic loads are measured first on a stationary model of a short, representative section of a lightly-iced conductor. Subsequently, automated controls force the model to undergo rotational oscillations, and the aerodynamic loads measured from these dynamic tests are compared to the stationary results. The airflow in both sets of experiments is visualised by using a laser-based system. The stationary test shows that the well-established den Hartog criterion for predicting vertical galloping does not explain why lightly-iced lines gallop. The dynamic experiments however confirm the presence of rotation-induced lift, unaccounted for by quasi-steady theory and the den Hartog criterion. This additional lift force increases the coupling between the rotational and vertical directions and may promote coupled aerodynamic instability. Visualisations indicate that the surface irregularities of the ice and the rotational motion are jointly responsible for the rotation-induced lift forces observed in the aerodynamic measurements.

The purpose of this dissertation was to construct a database of flute studies for use by teachers and students. There are difficulties for teachers in the choice of suitable studies caused by geographic isolation or lack of familiarity with, or access to, the available study repertoire. There is also a need to identify currently available technical and study repertoire for the flute, according to criteria of suitability for particular needs of students. In order to address these problems a survey of teachers was undertaken to establish a comprehensive list of criteria relating to the perceived technical needs of students at various levels. Once this was done, approximately three thousand studies from the currently available technical study repertoire were analysed, using the developed criteria. Some collections of studies were also analysed and compared with the general repertoire, and catalogues examined to see if these could be a viable solution to teachers' difficulties. This was found not to be the case, and a database was presented as the most practical solution for teachers searching for studies which address specific technical problems.

Abstract The target of this study is focused on the unexpected learning achievements for the students who join the wirral community wind band or straight flute group in Wunlin Elementary school besides of their regular learning processes. During 2007 to 2010, I took up the position of the chief of Student business department. For this reason, I had chances to participate in the operation of the groups and observe them directly, such as competitions, practicing, yearly achievement publication,School anniversary concerts, performances of the community festival celebrations or performance of student recruitment. Base on the data of directly observation and analysis of the reflection, from the side of alumnus to review the conclusion of observing, what is the resource of the potential curriculum in the art mass organizations? What is the content? How to effect? Every student has a chance to learn each other in the groups. When finding the shorts by observing the others, they can collect their thoughts and increase their will and motive to practice with the others. They are willing to learn and realize their target. This is the result of inspiring each other in the groups. A school is a planned place of intensive learning. It’s impossible to give the whole knowledge and experiments in one time, especially for the different students. How to collect suitable materials to students? As this reason, the ways to provide choices of Multi-dimensional mass organizations and a suitable Multi-dimensional development, explore their potentials, help them to establish their self-confidence and self-approval, and increase the extra velum are very important. Key words: potential curriculum, Association dynamics, Multi-dimensional intelligence, the operation of the groups

Streszczenie:
The aim of this dissertation is to comparatively analyse the set designs for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756-1791) opera, The Magic Flute (1791), with specific reference to selected set designers from the 18th to the early 21st century. The selection was made in light of each set designer’s unique design concepts for The Magic Flute which were all realised as stage settings in a proscenium arch theatre. In order to analyse the designs, it is necessary to trace theatrical practices and chronologically examine the reforms that affected the visual and spatial representation of scenography from the 18th to the 20th Chapter one provides a brief overview of the development of the proscenium arch stage. It examines the architectural reforms that were made to the proscenium arch in order to accommodate deeper stages and changes in stage settings. In addition, Chapter one investigates methods that theatre architects used to alter the proscenium arch and forestage in order to create a unity between the audience members and the performance. century. The set designs for The Magic Flute by Emanuel Johann Schikaneder (1791), Karl Friederich Schinkel (1816), David Hockney (1978) and William Kentridge (2007) will be analysed within the context of this investigation. Chapter two further considers the architectural modifications that were made to the stage and auditoria of opera theatres in more detail, from the first U-shaped auditorium onwards. It is essential to consider the different architectural structures of opera theatres because in order for each designer to initiate their design concept, they would be required to consider the architectural limitations of their chosen auditoria. The architectural structure would be determined by the foyer area, the style and arrangement of seating and the size of the proscenium arch and stage. Chapter three, by means of a comparative analysis, considers the social and cultural influences on the design concepts of Schikaneder, Schinkel and Hockney and how they informed those of Kentridge for The Magic Flute. It also provides a brief overview of stage lighting, scenic styles and stage machinery used in opera from the 16th to the 20th Chapter four classifies the theatrical spaces used in opera theatres by examining three key areas in an opera theatre, in relation to the foyer, auditorium and stage area. This investigation will be conducted with specific reference to the Theatre Auf Der Wieden, The Royal Opera House, the old Glyndebourne Opera House and The Artscape Opera House. In addition to this it will examine the selected designers’ approach to their design concepts by comparatively analysing the stage settings of Schikaneder, Schinkel, Hockney and Kentridge for The Magic Flute and the stage technology that was used to realise their design concepts. Thereafter, the set designs for Kentridge’s production and how they were conceptualised from a South African perspective will be examined. century Chapter five summarises the ways in which scenography is influenced by architectural, cultural and theatrical discourses, from the analysis of the designs and concepts for The Magic Flute.

In this master’s thesis, we studied how the historically informed performance (HIP) movement has impacted the way flutists have approached Baroque repertoire since 1960. We analyzed recordings from five flute players with Sonic Visualiser. We used this software to generate graphical data to objectively support our observations on tempo, articulation, dynamics, and vibrato. By comparing recordings made on baroque and modern instruments, we found that in the past 20 years, flutists who are performing this repertoire on the modern flute started integrating performance practice from the baroque players in their own performance of early music. To contextualize the performance practices, we synthesized a few baroque sources to verify the extent to which flutists have respected these indications. Through the process of this research, we observed that the HIP movement has changed the definition of an authentic performance of early music and that it has modified the way modern flutists perform Baroque music.
