This study re-examined the expression characteristics and aesthetic consciousness of Yusaku Kamekura, Ikko Tanaka, Shikeo Fukuda, Tadanori Yokoo, and Hara Kenya, representative Japanese graphic designers who have attracted the attention of the world's design industry from the 1960s to the present. In particular, the first-generation designer after World War II, Yusaku Kamekura has received worldwide attention by expressing the sun of the Japanese flag in a simple circle for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics poster, and Ikko Tanaka expressed the traditional theme simply and clearly at Nihonbuyo. While the posters of Kamekura and Tanaka expressed traditional materials in a simple and clear way from a modern perspective, Shigeo Fukuda's posters showed a modern expression trend that maximized the effect of optical illusions. Tadanori Yokoo used traditional Japanese materials in poster design and simultaneously expressed pop art and psychedelic expressions that deviated from Western modernism. Finally, Hara Kenya is actively realizing the design of blank space with the aesthetics of emptiness. The source of such modern graphic design in Japan can be ideologically pointed out as the Buddhist ideology of emptiness and Zen, Wabi & Sabi, Shutaku, Reductionism, and in terms of style, Ukiyoe, Linpa, Western modernism. Modern Japanese graphic design, which forms the mainstream with simple forms, abstract shapes, and simple colors, sought to harmonize and balance its unique cultural identity and global universality, and designers reflected their own formative language in their work. It can be said that it is a tendency of Japanese designers to express the harmony of Japanese traditional culture and Western modernism amid the trend of modernism. This aspect can be seen as a reflection of the perception of the design world to visualize Japan's modern image as an economic and a cultural power at the same time. In particular, the poster of 5 people reflected cultural traditions and aesthetic consciousness, while re-examining the glocal Hwahonyangjae of Japanese modern graphic design that aims for universal design at the same time. In particular, in the area of graphic design, where alphabetic culture design is the mainstream, Japanese design uses Chinese characters, hirakana, and katakana, forming a unique Japanese style graphic design foundation that is highly recognized worldwide. It is expected to contribute to the spread of K-Design's external awareness along with an opportunity to examine the universality and differences inherent in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese philosophies and aesthetics through a study on the expression characteristics and aesthetic consciousness of Japanese modern graphic design.

De naam van heimatauteur Omer Wattez refereert meestal aan het door hem gecreëerde geografische begrip 'Vlaamsche Ardennen'. Literair-historisch gezien viel hij echter door de mazen van het net. Vandaag zou de literatuurwetenschap hem als een middlebrow-schrijver typeren: een exponent van het middenveld waarin de literatuur sterke democratiserende doelen dient. De breuklijn in Wattez' leven en werk is die tussen de Germaanse en Romaanse cultuur. De auteur verdiepte zich in de Duitse en Oud-Germaanse cultuur en zou talloze publicaties over het thema leveren, veeleer van pedagogische aard en met de bedoeling de contemporaine verfransing van het Vlaamse cultuurleven te counteren. De schrijver besteedde op nogal eenzijdige wijze aandacht aan de Germaanse kant van de Vlaamse cultuur, iets waar zijn lidmaatschap van het Brusselse kunstgenootschap De Distel niet vreemd was. Meteen na de oprichting in 1881 was daar al een germanofiele instroom merkbaar. Het genootschap viel op door verscheidene Duitsgezinde acties die geleidelijk overgingen in een politiek pangermanisme, de droom om Germaanse volkeren onder één vlag te verzamelen. Omstreeks 1900 trad Wattez opt als een van de leidinggevende figuren van het tijdschrift Germania (1898-1905), een initiatief van Alduitse oorsprong. Eerder had hij zich bij voorkeur als dichter en novellist gemanifesteerd. Hoe dan ook zal vooral zijn boekwerk De Vlaamsche Ardennen blijven de tand des tijds doorstaan. About the regional author Omer Wattez (1857-1935)The name of regional author Omer Wattez is usually mentioned in reference to the geographical concept of the ‘Flemish Ardennes’ that he created. However, it is difficult to pinpoint him from a literary historical point of view. At present the history of modern literature would characterise him as a middlebrow-author: an exponent of the mainstream in which literature serves strong democratising objectives. The fault line in Wattez' life and work lies between German and Romanic culture. The author delved into the German and Old-German culture and was to produce numerous publications on that topic, which were of a rather pedagogical nature and intended to strike back at the contemporary Frenchification of Flemish cultural life. The author paid attention to the German side of Flemish literature from a rather one-sided point of view, which might well be explained by his membership of the Brussels art society De Distel. Immediately after its foundation in 1881, a Germanophile influx was already noticeable. The society attracted attention by engaging in several pro-German actions, which gradually turned into a political Pan-Germanism, the dream to unit all German nations under one flag. Circa 1900 Wattez acted as one of the protagonists of the periodical Germania (1898-1905), an initiative of All-German origin. Previous to this, he had manifested himself preferably as a poet and novelist. At any rate, it will be in particular his book The Flemish Ardennes that will stand the test of time. The linking of a variety of tourist aspects and odes to the untarnished landscape of his youth on the one hand and literary culture on the other hand appears to characterise a large part of the works of Wattez.

The works of P. Picasso in ceramics in the collection of the State Art Museum of Uzbekistan are among the masterpieces of the museum and are kept as priceless works. These works are one of the periods when the artist P. Picasso worked on clay.The Spanish artist, sculptor, graphic artist, ceramist and designer Pablo Picasso made a worthy contribution to the development of world art. He laid the foundations for Cubism by dividing objects into handicrafts and creating works of art from pieces, carved and three-dimensional on a flat surface. From the second half of the 1930s, the social status of Picasso came to the fore. The article is significant in that it provides comments on his rare works.

Abstract. Origami is the art of folding paper. In the context of engineering, orimimetics is the application of folding to solve problems. Kinetic origami behavior can be modeled with the pseudo-rigid-body model since the origami are compliant mechanisms. These compliant mechanisms, when having a flat initial state and motion emerging out of the fabrication plane, are classified as lamina emergent mechanisms (LEMs). To demonstrate the feasibility of identifying links between origami and compliant mechanism analysis and design methods, four flat folding paper mechanisms are presented with their corresponding kinematic and graph models. Principles from graph theory are used to abstract the mechanisms to show them as coupled, or inter-connected, mechanisms. It is anticipated that this work lays a foundation for exploring methods for LEM synthesis based on the analogy between flat-folding origami models and linkage assembly.

Origami, an ancient art of paperfolding, has evolved beyond its traditional use for cultural and entertainment purposes and has found its way into artistic, scientific, and engineering realms. This research paper explores the mathematical foundations of origami, and later focuses on a specific application in biomedical engineering. This study is intended to illustrate several aspects of origami that are relevant to engineering structures, namely: geometry, pattern generation, flat-foldability, and the ability of origami tessellations to fit specific target shapes. This review further examines DNA Origami Nano-structures (DONs) which provide numerous benefits, including lower biotoxicity, increased stability, and superior adaptability, making them an excellent choice for Drug Delivery Systems.

There is, among many students of Australian law, a tendency to regard the establishment of constitutional government in Australia in positivistic terms: as a result of the passage of the New South Wales Act in 1823, or of the Australian Courts Act in 1828, or of the Australian Constitution Acts of 1842 and 1850, or even of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act in 1900. This is understandable, for, as Sir Victor Windeyer once put it, there was in the foundation of European society on these islands no element whatever of a social contract. Rather, the move to populate the Australian territories was a consequence entirely of a prospectively looking determination made by the government in London. And, as Windeyer went on to note, the formal establishment of local government was effected by ceremonies that were by their very essence positivistic in nature. On 26 January 1788, there was first a formal ceremony in which the Union flag was raised and a salute fired. Then, on 7 February, the whole population of the colony was assembled and the royal letters patent were read, which formally instructed Captain Phillip to go about the duty of creating a penal establishment.

The Song and Yuan Dynasties are considered a period when art theory and practice reached a very high level. Among them, painting, as an important category, has great potential. Guo Xi, a painter and theorist of the Song Dynasty, proposed “The San Yuan Method” (means three artistic principles: high, far-reaching and flat), which was compiled into a collection by his son and included in Lin Quan Gao Zhi (the elegance of the bamboo and spring), becoming an important theoretical work in the history of Chinese painting. This article will start from the theoretical foundations of "high", "far-reaching", and "flat" and use specific text analysis and theoretical exposition methods to analyze the painting characteristics of Chinese landscape painting influenced by the " San Yuan Method". The aim is to analyze the creative purpose of landscape painting and appreciate Lin Quan’s heart (Lin Quan's heart is the view put forward by Guoxi, a landscape painter in the Song Dynasty; that is, landscape painters should have an aesthetic mind when observing and painting).

Penelitian tentang pembentukan Qanun Aceh ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis proses evaluasi Qanun Aceh Nomor 3 Tahun 2013 tentang Bendera dan Lambang Aceh. Qanun Aceh Nomor 3 Tahun 2013 tentang Bendera dan Lambang Aceh telah mendapat pengesahan oleh Gubernur dan DPRA. Hasil evaluasi Pemeritah Pusat dalam hal ini Kementerian Dalam Negeri Republik Indonesia menolak pemberlakukan Qanun Aceh Nomor 3 Tahun 2013 tentang Bendera dan Lambang Aceh. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian hukum normatif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan (literature research) yang dilakukan untuk memperoleh data sekunder di bidang hukum. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif analisis yaitu penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan atau memberikan gambaran secara sistematis, faktual dan akurat terhadap suatu daerah tertentu, mengenai sifat-sifat atau faktor-faktor tertentu. Hasil penelitian ini adalah, (1) Qanun Aceh Nomor 3 Tahun 2013 tentang Bendera dan Lambang Aceh merupakan simbol masyarakat Aceh sendiri. Hal ini dikarenakan ada sejarah yang kuat terhadap bendera dan lambang Aceh, (2) peraturan perundang-undangan memberikan legitimasi terhadap qanun bendera dan lambang Aceh, (3) peneliti juga menemukan di dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 11 Tahun 2006 tentang Pemerintah Aceh yang menjelaskan dasar terbentuknya qanun tersebut. Dalam hal proses evaluasi oleh Kementerian Dalam Negeri terkait qanun tersebut, masih belum ada titik temu antara Pemerintah Pusat dan Pemerintah Aceh. Hal ini dikarenakan qanun bendera dan lambang Aceh tidak bisa dibatalkan oleh Pemerintah Pusat karena terhalang oleh pengaturan Undang-Undang Nomor 11 Tahun 2006 tentang Pemerintah Aceh.The research on Aceh Qanun (local regulation) establishment was conducted to analyze the evaluation process of Aceh Qanun Number 3 of 2013 on Aceh Flag and Symbol. Aceh Qanun Number 3 of 2013 on Aceh Flag and Symbol was ratified by Governor and Aceh House of Representative (DPRA). The result of government evaluation in this case Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia refused the enactment of Aceh Qanun Number 3 of 2013 on Aceh Flag and Symbol. This research was a normative legal research. The data collection was library research methods to get secondary data in law matters. The research, a descriptive analysis research, aims to describe or provide a systematic, factual and accurate description of a particular area, about certain traits or factors. The research result were as follows, (1) Aceh Qanun Number 3 of 2013 on Aceh Flag and Symbol was Aceh people own symbol. It has a stong history behind the Flag and Symbol, (2) the regulations gives legitimation on Aceh Flag and Symbol Qanun,(3) the researcher also found that there was an Act no.11 year 2006 on Aceh Government that stated the foundation of that Qanun.In relation with the evaluation process by Ministry of Home Affairs, there was no common ground between Central Government and Aceh Government. Aceh Qanun on Aceh Flag and Symbol can not be canceled by Central Government because it is hindered by Act no.11 year 2006 on Aceh Government.

In this essay I explore the nature, role, and significance of intensive agriculture in the ancient state of Tiwanaku, which was centered in the high plateau of southern Peru and northwestern Bolivia. Significant primary evidence that the state of Tiwanaku systematically reclaimed immense tracts of now abandoned agricultural land around the borders of Lake Titicaca is adduced and evaluated.I conclude that Tiwanaku was a dynamic, expansive state based squarely on an effective, surplus-producing system of intensive agriculture, that the intensification agricultural production through large scale reclamation of flat, seasonally inundated land along the margins of Lake Titicaca was a prime economic strategy of the Tiwanaku state, and that this strategy was devised and managed by a hierarchically organized, central government.

The present article focuses on the transformation of style and sense of Ukrainian art in the 1930s, in the context of the “Zhovten” Association designers’ creativity. Ideological pressure became determinant in the work of Ukrainian artists. Period of repressions led to decay of art in general, and dramatic reduction in style directions. Industrialization in the USSR, carried out in the 1930s, and measures to accelerate the development of industry were the main themes imposed on artists. Ideologically biased theoretical foundations of the new artistic style typical for the 1930s were clearly manifested in the declaration of the “Zhovten” Association. The ranks of this association, founded in 1930, included some former members of the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine and the Association of Contemporary Artists of Ukraine. The theory spelled out in the declaration of unification was significantly ahead of its practical implementation, the artists themselves gradually switched to new forms and content in their works, without breaking ties with the national and European school. The “Zhovten” Association became a true litmus test of those phenomena that dominated in the art of the Stalin era. At the same time, it crossed out all the achievements of the associations-predecessors, creating a version of the all-Union ideologically engaged associations in Ukraine. A sharp change took place in the artistic environment when the question of form ceased to be a vital topic. The attention was focused on the content of artworks. The ostentatious elated mood of works of art hid the realities of the time like a screen. It camouflaged serious constraint in artistic statements, offering the only “correct” chartered way forward that made it impossible for any artist to make their own graphic statements. A tangible ideological pressure prompted the artists to abandon their creative originality, and strive for maximum realism. They added cliché images to their works: portraits of ideologists, workers, flags, Soviet symbols, and the like. At the same time, the authors lost their creative identities, and their artworks were deprived of any artistic value.

This is an historical study of an institution of higher education that existed in St. Augustine, Florida from 1942-1949. The name of the institution was The University Foundation, founded by George J. Apel, Jr. This institution had several higher education divisions functioning under its umbrella. These divisions were the St. Augustine Junior College, the Graduate Division, the American Theological Seminary and the University Extension College with evening courses and Home Study courses for vacation study. The information collected for this study was accomplished primarily by the process of studying archives and conducting personal interviews. Since this is a qualitative research study, the collected information was processed through the use of multiple data-collection methods, data sources and analyses which insured the validity of the findings of the study. This process is known as information triangulation. The results of this study provide answers to the circumstances and identities of the key players which led to the formation of The University Foundation. Issues relating to the mission, revenue streams, faculty, curricula, and the ultimate demise of The University Foundation were also addressed in this study. Recommendations are included for higher education administrators, faculty, researchers, fund-raisers, and others whose efforts may be directed toward the launching and operation of new Christian institutions of higher learning.

Although the Information Age is often described as a new era, a cultural leap springing directly from the invention of modern computers, it is simply the latest step in a long cultural process. Its conceptual roots stretch back to the profound changes that occurred during the Age of Reason and Revolution. When Information Came of Age argues that the key to the present era lies in understanding the systems developed in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to gather, store, transform, display, and communicate information. The book provides a concise and readable survey of the many conceptual developments between 1700 and 1850 and draws connections to leading technologies of today. It documents three breakthroughs in information systems that date to the period: the classification and nomenclature of Linnaeus, the chemical system devised by Lavoisier, and the metric system. It shows how eighteenth-century political arithmeticians and demographers pioneered statistics and graphs as a means for presenting data succinctly and visually. AbstractAs one of the important methods to survey the foundation pile integrity in most engineering industries in China, ultrasonic testing (UT) has such advantages as determining the position and scope of defects accurately and good operability. In this paper, on the basis of the in-depth study of China’s industrial standards, main parameters for evaluating pile integrity in each standard were extracted, features and deficiencies of each parameter were analyzed in detail, and a multiparameter identification method of ultrasonically testing foundation pile integrity, which takes wave velocity, amplitude and basic frequency as the analytical parameters and outputs quantitative results, was proposed as an effective supplement to the ultrasonic testing of foundation pile integrity. This method has been applied to the result analysis of more than 800 engineering piles, and has obtained high consistency by comparing those results with core drilling results. Among them, $$K_{(i)}$$, the evaluation index of pile integrity with the pile complete and the buried acoustic pipe flat, is basically closed to the range $$1 \le K_{(i)} \le 1.35$$; when $$K_{(i)} > 1.35$$, all others, except for several points, are $$K_{(i)}$$ dispersion caused by head wave interpretation errors; when $$0.85 \le K_{(i)} < 1$$, all acoustic lines within this range reflect slight or obvious abnormalities of sound velocity and amplitude and obvious distortion of waveforms, that is, this acoustic line has slight or obvious defects; when $$K_{(i)} < 0.85$$, all acoustic lines within this range reflect serious abnormalities of sound velocity and amplitude and obvious distortion of waveforms, that is, this acoustic line has serious defects. Conclusion: This method can effectively reduce the impact of changes in critical values of wave velocity and amplitude caused by the misinterpretation of the head wave position, thus providing a rapid and accurate evaluation for the ultrasonic testing of foundation pile integrity for later engineering practice reference.

Abstract The central concept that is used in a novel way in this investigation is that of a space-like hyperplane. A spacelike hyperplane is a three dimensional, metrically flat section of’the flat Minkowski space-time continuum, such that any two points in the hyperplane are separated by a spacelike interval. For any such hyperplane, there is an inertial frame of reference in which all the points of the hyperplane are simultaneous, and all points simultaneous with any point of the hyperplane are in the hyperplane. The hyperplane is then said to be an instantaneous hyperplane for that inertial frame. However, it is the notion of a spacelike hyperplane as an invariant oeometrical construct, with different descriptions from the standpoint of different intertial frames, that I wish to emphasize.

This series, the influence of which transcended the borders of Europe in terms of its subject matter, formal features, and narrative techniques, established a notable presence in world cinema history. The three colours of the French flag -blue, white, red- constitute the Trilogy, symbolizing the foundational concepts of Enlightenment ideology: liberty, equality, and fraternity, respectively. These notions hold central significance, embodying principles that originated in Europe and permeated the entire world. Kieślowski, with his unique auteur style, explored these concepts on an individual-inner level rather than a political-social one, crafting a universal work of art through the new narrative possibilities he achieved. The study subjects Kieślowski's work to a fresh form and narrative analysis in line with Gilles Deleuze's cinema theory, drawing from the extensive literature that has emerged around the Trilogy.

This chapter explores partial differentiation. It focuses principally on the case where a parameter z is a function of just two variables, x and y: z = f(x, y). We can visualize such a situation by thinking of z as representing a height, with x and y being the two-dimensional coordinates of a point on the (flat) ground. While a realistic rendering of the topographical scene requires artistic ability, a more practical means of displaying the salient information is to draw a contour map; these are found in geographical atlases, where hills and valleys are depicted by a series of lines which join together regions of equal altitude. The chapter then looks at second and higher derivatives, increments and chain rules, the Taylor series, maxima and minima, and constrained optimization.

Abstract Ultrasound images differ from their optical counterpart in that they map the local acoustic properties of the medium such as the density and compressibility as opposed to the optical properties. They are subject to distortion from a variety of sources, including diffraction, attenuation, dispersion, and inhomogeneities in the medium. Imaging arrays enable acoustic images to be obtained without the need for mechanical scanning of single-element transducers, and they can do so at a sufficiently high frame rate that avoids significant motion distortion caused by fast-moving structures such as those in the heart. Developments in transducers and array design, together with new signal-processing techniques, have enabled major improvements to be made in ultrasound contrast, resolution, dynamic range, frame rate, and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). This chapter is the first of two concerned with the theory, design, and application of arrays for 2-D and 3-D imaging. It begins with a brief historical overview that describes how ultrasound imaging evolved from pulse-echo metal flaw detectors and was influenced by the techniques developed for radar during World War II. Simple CW excited 1-D arrays consisting of point source elements will first be examined. This leads to the concepts of beam focusing and steering using pulse-excited array elements of finite size.

Under high-mobility scenarios, the traditional coherent demodulation schemes (CDS) have limited performance, because reference signals cannot effectively track the channel variations with an affordable overhead. As an alternative solution, non-coherent demodulation schemes (NCDS) based on differential modulation have been proposed. Even in the absence of reference signals, they are capable of outperforming the CDS with a reduced complexity. The literature on NCDS laid the theoretical foundations for simplified channel and signal models, often single-carrier and spatially uncorrelated flat-fading channels. This chapter explains the most recent results assuming orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling and realistic channel models.

In human dignity discourse lawyers bring legal problems and philosophers’ reflections on what humans are and owe each other—under a secular premise. Theologians rarely reflect on the dangers for human dignity within the church and similar institutions resulting from hierarchy and control, unequal treatment of women and others, celibacy, paternalism and seclusiveness.

Abstract This paper analyzes the power capture potential, structural loadings, and costs associated with an oscillating surge wave energy converter (OSWEC) operating on a raised foundation. The raised OSWEC offers opportunities for reduced installation costs, improved energy production, and greater flexibility of deployment when compared with fixed-bottom models. In this investigation, we simulated several different foundation geometries using WEC-Sim to estimate power capture and structural loads. In an effort to maximize power capture, several cases in which flat plates of varying size were attached to the top of the foundation, under and parallel with the OSWEC, were also simulated. These plates were found to enhance power capture by preventing the wave-induced pressure from passing underneath the OSWEC, diverting this pressure toward the OSWEC instead. The OSWEC was simulated in the six Wave Energy Prize sea states, which were chosen as a representative sample of U.S. deployment sites. A first-order estimate of structural costs was calculated using the Wave Energy Prize ACE metric, with the foundation comprised predominantly of steel-reinforced concrete and the OSWEC comprised of A36 steel. Influence of foundation geometry on power capture, structural loadings, and ACE are topics of particular interest. This work has been inspired by advances in large-scale additive manufacturing techniques that have the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of subsea foundations. These advancements may enable cost-effective WEC systems to be deployed on raised foundations.

Abstract Traditional subsea mining systems use a heavy subsea crawler, which has a big drill and scrapes the mineral deposit horizontally and have limitations of seafloor inclination, roughness and softness. Those traditional systems also have issues from operational and economical points of view. Furthermore, traditional on-board drilling machines and seabed drilling machines are used for core sampling by drilling to analyze mineral contents of seafloor deposits at the stage of mineral resource estimation before the production but operational and economical efficiencies are required to those traditional systems as well. The objective of this research is to develop an innovative Self-Walking Vertical Mining System (SW-VMS) that overcomes these issues. The system is a fully submerged eight-legged jack up platform and is able to walk autonomously on a rough, soft and inclined seafloor. The SW-VMS can be used both as the mining system to mine seafloor deposits and as the sample drilling system to analyze mineral contents in-situ and on-land efficiently before the mining with a DTH drilling unit. This paper introduces the detail of the SW-VMS as the mining system at first and then introduces the concept of the SW-VMS as the sample drilling system and finally the results of the scale model test of the SW-VMS on-land are shown. The scale model test has been carried out to confirm the walking ability of the SW-VMS from the structural and autonomous control points of view. The scale of the test model is approximately 1/40 of the preliminary design of the SW-VMS which has been already completed. The test consists of test cases of walking on a flat foundation, on a flat foundation including partially soft foundations and on inclined foundations of up to 45 degrees.

While its application is an aid in conceptual aspects of the design process, its use as a quantitative decision support tool in engineering design is potentially flawed. This flaw is a result of assumptions behind the methodology of the House of Quality and is viewed as an important deficiency that can lead to potentially invalid and poor decisions. In this paper this deficiency and its implications are explored both experimentally and empirically. The resulting conclusions are important to future use and improvement of the House of Quality as an engineering design tool.

<p>The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey carries the new Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway across the Dardanelles strait. The substructure of the suspension bridge with the world record main span of 2023m consists of the two tower foundations, the two anchor blocks and the two side span piers. This paper describes the concept development for the substructure. It is the first of two papers, with the second paper focusing on the design and construction of the substructure. For all the substructure elements construction time, risks, sustainability, and cost are important parameters when selecting the most favourable concept. The soil conditions at the individual substructural element have the most significant influence on the selection of the best concept. Hence, an alignment study including the positioning of the substructure elements is the first step to find the optimal substructure concept.</p><p>The two towers are founded at water depths up to 45m. Open dredged wells, a steel truss structure, a classic pile cap with steel piles, and a concrete caisson foundation are considered for the design. Critical load cases are ship impact and seismic loadings. For the anchor blocks deep foundation with excavation within one or two diaphragm rings are investigated. For the Asian anchor block an alternative concept with a flat massif and shear walls below is developed. For the European anchor block a relocation with a tunnel anchorage or with a massif partly buried in a rock outcrop is investigated.</p>

Abstract Experiments were conducted on a wave tank model of a bottom raised oscillating surge wave energy converter (OSWEC) model in regular waves. The OSWEC model shape was a thin rectangular flap, which was allowed to pitch in response to incident waves about a hinge located at the intersection of the flap and the top of the supporting foundation. Torsion springs were added to the hinge in order to position the pitch natural frequency at the center of the wave frequency range of the wave maker. The flap motion as well as the loads at the base of the foundation were measured. The OSWEC was modeled analytically using elliptic functions in order to obtain closed form expressions for added mass and radiation damping coefficients, along with the excitation force and torque. These formulations were derived and reported in a previous publication by the authors. While analytical predictions of the foundation loads agree very well with experiments, large discrepancies are seen in the pitch response close to resonance. These differences are analyzed by conducting a sensitivity study, in which system parameters, including damping and added mass values, are varied. The likely contributors to the differences between predictions and experiments are attributed to tank reflections, standing waves that can occur in long, narrow wave tanks, as well as the thin plate assumption employed in the analytical approach.

Prediction of the bearing behavior of vertical loaded shallow foundations is typically done using the classical bearing capacity approach. This approach is very sensitive to the friction angle assumed in the calculation. A conservative estimate of the bearing capacity is required for most applications, hence uncertainties in the friction angle may be absorbed by the safety factor applied. Spudcans are used to found mobile jack-up platforms in the oil and gas industry as well as in the offshore wind energy industry. Contrary to the classical approach, the bearing capacity of spudcans has to be predicted accurately. Spudcans are penetrated into the seabed and a continuous bearing failure proceeds until the target capacity is met. A Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) approach is used to simulate the penetration process of spudcans into silica sand. The sand is modeled using a hypoplastic constitutive model to capture the influence of the void ratio and stress state for example. A parametric study of foundation diameter and enclosed cone angle is presented. The numerical model is validated against results from centrifuge experiments of flat and conical circular footings penetrating into silica sand. A first empirical approach to estimate the bearing capacity depending on the diameter and enclosed cone angle is given for silica sand.

In this paper two different approaches to calculate the wave impacts on a monopile are introduced and compared to model test results. Within the scope of the WiFi JIP (Joint Industry Project Wave Impacts on Fixed turbines) model tests at MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) and at Deltares were conducted to investigate the effects of steep (and breaking) waves on the support structure of bottom fixed offshore wind turbines. Three different ways to generate breaking waves were used. At MARIN focused waves were generated to obtain breaking wave events. Two different methods to calculate slamming loads on monopiles are compared to the wave impacts measured. The results are analyzed in time history and load maxima plots. In addition the obtained curling factors of the focused waves are compared to irregular sea states recorded on a flat seabed and a sandwave. A good representation of the loads calculated by Wienke’s approach was observed for all waves investigated. However, to estimate the kinematics of focused breaking wave events more accurate methods than stream function are needed.

When constructing the bottom of aboveground oil storage tanks, the bottom plates are first laid out on the flat foundation, and they then are joined by welding the joints in sequence. As the foundation is difficult to be made completely homogeneous over the bottom area, the settlement of the bottom plates is not uniform under liquid pressure. The depressions of the bottom plates are sometimes found at the first internal inspection which is usually made about 10 years after the oil storage. This paper presents plane strain finite element analysis for the localized bottom depression in aboveground oil storage tanks. Load-incremental, elastic-plastic large deformation analysis is carried out considering contact with the foundation. The relationship of the stress at the depressed bottom plate to the liquid pressure is discussed together with the deformation of the depression.

Pile foundation settlement might cause a disastrous consequence to an in-service pressure pipeline. Flaws, which are unavoidable in the pipeline, lead to reduction of load-supporting capability and service life of the pipeline. So fracture failure risk analysis of in-service pressure pipeline is important in engineering. Failure probability of pipeline due to pile foundation settlement is computed by using the well-known safety assessment procedure R6. Three-moment equation is adopted to compute bending moment in the condition of n piles, where n is the number of piles. A numerical example was presented to illustrate the application of fracture failure risk analysis to determine the failure probability of the pressure pipeline, considering the uncertainties in various internal operating loadings and external forces, flaw sizes, material fracture toughness and flow stress. Furthermore, the failure probabilities of each defect and the whole pipeline were obtained.
