Every year, diverse types of safety accidents cause major damage to human life and property. In particular, failure to suppress safety accidents caused by fires during the early stages can lead to large-scale accidents, which in turn can cause more serious damage than other types of accident. Therefore, this paper presents an analysis of the prevailing research trends and future directions for research on preventing safety accidents due to fire. Since fire outbreaks can occur in many types of places, the study was conducted by selecting the places and causes involved in frequent fires, using fire data from Korea. As half of these fires were found to occur in buildings, this paper presents an analysis of the causes of building fires, and then focuses on three themes: fire prevention based on fire and gas detection; fire prevention in electrical appliances; and fire prevention for next-generation electricity. In the gas detection of the first theme, the gas referred to does not denote a specific gas, but rather to the gas used in each place. After an analysis of research trends for each issue related to fire prevention, future research directions are suggested on the basis of the findings. It is necessary to evaluate the risk, select a detection system, and improve its reliability in order to thoroughly prevent fires in the future. In addition, an active emergency response system should be developed by operating a fire prevention control system, and safety training should be developed after classifying the targets of the training targets appropriately.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper was to examine the transformation of fire prevention processes via improved targeting of fire prevention interventions over a four-year period. Design/methodology/approach – A four-year case study of the transformation of fire prevention processes involving a UK fire and rescue service, local council, National Health Service primary care trust and a police force was undertaken. Findings – Understanding the socio-economic causal factors underlying unintentional dwelling fires, and the need to work in collaborative partnerships to achieve change in such factors can support more targeted and effective fire prevention activities. Research limitations/implications – Analysis of underlying causal factors and their relationships, together with population segmentation and working in coordinated collaborative partnerships, can support enhanced fire risk assessment and community safety. This supported more pro-active early intervention fire risk management. Practical implications – Analysis of socio-economic causal factors and socio-economic groups associated with unintentional dwelling fires can assist in targeting fire prevention activities in a more effective and efficient manner. This enabled the fire and rescue service to target fire prevention to social groups most at risk of dwelling fires and the types of fires (for example, kitchen fires) relevant to the different social groups. Social implications – Collaborative public sector partnerships can achieve change in the socio-economic circumstances of at-risk individuals to support fire prevention. This enables the social- and health-related factors underlying fire risk to be addressed by the relevant partner health or social services agencies. Originality/value – The detailed analysis of the transformation of fire prevention activities that led to an implemented approach to enhance community safety. In particular, the analysis and evaluation of the move to collaborative multi-agency partnerships to support and improve fire prevention activities.

Globally, residential fires constitute a substantial public health problem, causing major fire-related injury morbidity and mortality. This review examined the literature on residential fire prevention interventions relevant to Indigenous communities and assessed their effectiveness on mitigating fire incidents and their associated human and economic burden. Electronic databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, and Web of Science Core Collection were reviewed for studies on fire prevention interventions published after 1990 and based on the 4E’s of injury prevention approaches (Education, Enforcement, Engineering, and Engagement). The grey literature and sources including indigenous organizational websites were also searched for eligible studies. Two authors independently screened, selected, and extracted data, in consultation with experts in the field. Outcomes measured included enhanced safety knowledge and practices, decreased residential fires incidents, reduced fire-related injuries and deaths, and lowered costs for healthcare needs. After removing duplicates, screening titles and abstracts, and assessing full texts, 81 articles were included in this review. Of the included studies, 29.1% implemented educational interventions within a variety of settings, including schools, community centres and homes, and included healthcare professionals and firefighters to raise awareness and the acquisition of fire safety skills. Engineering and environmental modifications were adopted in 20.2% of the studies with increased smoke alarm installations being the leading effective intervention followed by sprinkler inspections. Moreover, engagement of household members in hands-on safety training proved to be effective in enhancing household knowledge, fire safety decisions and practices. More importantly, effective outcomes were obtained when multi-faceted fire safety interventions were adopted, e.g., environmental modification and educational interventions, which together markedly reduced fire incidents and associated injuries. This review reveals the dearth of fire prevention evidence gathered directly within Indigenous communities. Nonetheless, relevant fire prevention recommendations can be made, calling for the adoption of combined and context-sensitive fire prevention interventions tailored to targeted Indigenous and vulnerable communities through multiple approaches and measures. Follow-ups and longitudinal studies are critical for accurate evaluation of the long-term outcomes and impacts on preventing residential fires.

Designing a fire prevention inspection system in buildings is very necessary, to determine the level of reliability. The fire prevention management system uses the following criteria: precautionary measures and preventive supervision against fire hazards. The assessment of the system design is carried out by means of a questionnaire for respondents who understand / are experts in fire problems, and the application of the system design uses direct surveys and questionnaires to the building manager. The assessment is carried out at the smallest level. Analysis of the building reliability inspection system in fire prevention using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, the criteria used are: prevention, limitation and extinguishing against fire. The fire prevention management system uses the following criteria: precautionary measures and preventive supervision against fire hazards. The results of the reliability inspection of the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Mako Kodiklatal building in Surabaya with a value of 94.06% indicated that the reliability system was in the "Less Reliable" category for fire hazard prevention. Coal fires are emerging as a global threat with significant economic, social and ecological impacts, besides the loss of energy resources those fires cause air and water pollution and emit enormous amounts of green house gases (carbon dioxide and methane), how to prevent and extinct the fires has been a worldwide issue. According to the respective limitation and characteristic of gel fire prevention materials and foam fire prevention materials, a new thinking of foamed gel coal fire prevention materials is put forward creatively. Foamed gel that includes the characteristic of gel and foam possessed the property of accumulation. It also has the performance of sealing and secluding oxygen. This paper describes the composition and characteristic of foamed gel, as well as the laboratory production process. For large coal fire zones, the new fire prevention materials (Foamed Gel) have a broad application prospect.

Thanks to fast alarm systems and modern fire-fighting equipment most forest fires can be extinguished while still very small. Nevertheless, the fire brigade and forest organisations in the Grisons are recurringly confronted with larger fires. Over the past twenty years the Grisons Forestry Service and the fire section of the cantonal Building Insurance Company have invested in fire prevention and improved fire-fighting techniques. To monitor and assess the risk of forest fires, the computer-aided forest fire forecasting system “Incendi” was developed. On its basis, regional forest fire risk maps are drawn up and bans on the lighting of fires are imposed. For use in case of fire, the Forestry Service has drawn up maps of the whole Canton Grisons showing water supply points in and near the forest. Where there are gaps in the water supply, artificial water sources are being created. Fifteen years ago a concept of forest fire-fighting bases was elaborated. The most important elements of this concept are the 18 regional depots of mobile fire-fighting material, which in case of emergency can be transported where needed. The present-day administrative structures and the precautionary measures taken in the Grisons fulfil the conditions for efficient forest fire prevention and control.

Abstract Regionally, the Tumbang Nusa area consists of Tumbang Nusa village and Tanjung Taruna which also include a special research forest area under the management of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The area is a peatland with a peat soil depth between 2-8 meters so that is representative of the impacts of peat fire events on areas of moderate until deep peat depth. Experience from fire events at the mentions area in 2019 can be used to guide improvements in fire prevention strategies and management plans for preventing future surface and peat fires. Our research has shown that reducing the probability of a fire occurring requires an understanding of the socio-economic factors, such as human activities which ignite fires. This should be coupled with an understanding of the supporting biophysical and social factors including peatland characteristics, involvement of fire brigades, police and army, management of fuel, local fire danger rating, fire equipment, institutional capacity, suppression response, and post-fire action. All of these learning elements can improve prevention techniques at the village level.

Swedish emergency services still have relatively limited resources and time for proactive fire prevention. As a result of this, there is an extensive need for strategic working methods and knowledge to take advantage of spatial analyses. In addition, decision-making based on visualizations and analyses of their own collected data has the potential to increase the validity of strategic decisions. The objective of this paper is to critically examine how some different geovisualization techniques—point data, kernel density and choropleth mapping—actively can complement each other and be applied in fire preventive work. The results show that each technique itself has limitations, but that, in combination, they increase the scope for interpretation and the possibilities of targeting different forms of preventive measures. The investigated geovisualization techniques facilitate various forms of fire prevention such as identifying which areas to prioritize for outreach, home visits, identification and targeting of different risk groups and customized information campaigns about certain types of fires in risk-prone areas. Furthermore, fairly simple mapping techniques can be utilized directly to evaluate incident reports and increase the quality of geocoded fire incidents. The study also shows how some of these techniques can be applied when analyzing residential fire incidents and their relation to underlying structural and socio-economic factors as well as spatio-temporal dimensions of fire incident data. The spatial analyses and supporting maps can help find and predict risk areas for residential fires or be used directly to formulate hypotheses on fire patterns. The generic functionality of the visualization methods makes them also useful for visual analysis of other types of incidents, such as reported crimes and accidents. Finally, the results are applicable to a work process adapted to the Swedish legislation on confidential data.

Fire is a dangerous threat and can result in the loss of a person's life and material loss. Early childhood is very risky to become victims of fire so there is a need for counseling and assistance to children as provisions in preventing casualties. This research is focused on the socialization of early childhood understanding of the dangers and prevention of fires that have occurred recently. This study uses a qualitative approach with a socialization model. The data was obtained by observation and interviews using Google Form involving resource persons consisting of the principal, teachers of class B. This study revealed that the socialization of early childhood understanding regarding the dangers and fire prevention is very necessary as an effort to prepare for prevention and provision of children's readiness to face fire disaster that can happen at any time.

Large quantities of solid municipal waste containing a variety of flammable substances, that are disposed of in sanitary and non-sanitary landfills and even illegal dump sites, usually entail a high risk of fire. The level of risk is increased by the presence of methane which is released by municipal waste decomposition. The number of landfill fires varies depending on the morphological composition of the waste, ignition sources, meteorological conditions, time of year, as well as fire protection measures. The paper describes the impact of flammable waste on landfill fires, as well as causes, frequency and procedures in preventing and extinguishing landfill fires.

Introduction: The cement production process uses high technology machines and uses coal as fuel. The potential for fires is huge because in the cement company there are areas that are very vulnerable to fires such as in the coalmill, preheater, and klin areas. The purpose of this study is to describe the description of the causes of fires, fire prevention technical efforts, OSH organization in the field of fire prevention, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Methods: The method used in this research was a descriptive method with cross sectional study design. Data collection was done by means of observation. The research variables used were the causes of fire, fire prevention technical efforts, OSH organization in the field of fire prevention, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for firefighters. The sample used in this study was the entire unit in the cement company. Result: Cement company causes fires, classified in medium criteria. Meanwhile, fire prevention efforts in the cement company is classified in good criteria. Moreover, organizations in the cement company in the fire prevention sector is included in good criteria and the personal protective equipment provided in the cement company is included in good criteria. Conclusion: The cause of the fire in the cement company is the use of coal as the main fuel for the process of making cement, which is also the source of fire. Efforts made by the cement company include the installation of layouts and the installation of evacuation signs on each building. Personal Protective Equipment in the cement company has also been well managed.Keywords: cement, coal, fire, occupational safety and health, personal protective equipment

Although the number of fires has not changed considerably in recent times, property damage and casualties due to fires are increasing every year. Maintaining the performance of fire-fighting facilities installed in buildings has been emphasized for maximizing human safety and minimizing property damage caused by fires. As a result, since 2017, the maintenance of fire extinguishers throughout their service life, has been mandated. In case of a fire, initial fire extinguishing and fire spreading prevention are crucial. There have been no available measures for the maintenance and verification of indoor fire hydrants and outdoor fire hydrant hoses used for extinguishing fires and preventing combustion expansion. This study was therefore intended to present measures for ascertaining the service life of these fire extinguishers, by evaluating their firefighting abilities through sample analysis and case analysis of the fire hoses. Research shows that the degradation of performance of the fire hoses becomes evident between 9 and 10 years, so that 10 years of service life is considered appropriate for the fire hoses.

Fire prevention system of subway station plays an important role in ensuring passenger safety. The Shenyang Youth Street subway station fire prevention system safety was studied, applying performance-based fire protection design analysis method, using of FDS simulation software on the station fire prevention safety system for the calculation and analysis. Three working conditions were set when subway fire happens. Fire smoke flow characteristics and the distribution of temperature, CO concentration and visibility were analyzed and compared. The results show that the automatic sprinkler system and smoke control system have great effect on the preventing spread of fire. In the automatic sprinkler system and smoke control system conditions, fire hazards have not reached the standards of passengers tolerance.

Introduction: The objective of this review is to draw attention to the risk factors, causes and prevention of surgical fires in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery performed under local anaesthesia and sedation using a review of the literature.Method: Comprehensive search terms were developed, and PubMed and MEDLINE® searches were performed, including articles published in the last 25 years (1993–2018). Reference review was also undertaken. Eligible manuscripts described surgical fires involving patients undergoing surgical procedures under local anaesthesia in the head and neck region.Results: Risk factors forming the three arms of the fire triangle are detailed. High oxygen concentration in proximity to the surgical field where electrocautery is being used is the most common combination leading to surgical fire accidents. Conclusion: Summary recommendations for the prevention of surgical fires are presented. Preventing the development of an oxidiser-enriched environment is the main risk-reducing measure. Identifying high-risk cases and improving communication between the surgical, anaesthetic and nursing staff who control the arms of the fire triangle are very important measures in avoiding theses catastrophic events.

The National Park of Bantimurung Bulusaraung located in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi Province, is a unique conservation area with a karst ecosystem. Forest fires have been an essential threat to the National Park. The study aims to analyze forest fire occurrences, identify causes and forest fire prevention efforts at the National Park of Bantimurung Bulusaraung, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. Data used in this study consist of monthly forest fire data from the National Park of Bantimurung Bulusaraung and monthly rainfall data from the Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics in the period of 2015-2020, and information on fire causes, community participation in forest fire prevention derived from respondents of villagers living surrounding the national park. Data analyses using JASP 0.14.1 software. The study revealed that forest fires occur every year at the National Park of Bantimurung Bulusaraung with fires frequency of 20 times and burned area of 163,455 ha from 2015 to 2020. The highest frequency occurred in 2015 of 8 times and burned area about 97,065 ha. The human factor has been the single fire causing factor, particularly negligence in fire use activities. There are several prevention measures conducted by the National Park management, including the socialization and training activities for community. The unique karst ecosystem seems to be a challenge in the fire suppression process. Therefore, forest fire prevention involving community living surrounding the national park is critical in forest fire control in the National Park of Bantimurung Bulusaraung. Prescribed fire is a globally relevant fuel treatment for surface fuel management and wildfire hazard reduction. However, Mediterranean ecosystems are adapted to low and moderate fires; hence, the useful life of prescribed fires is limited. Useful life is defined as the effective rotation length of prescribed fires to mitigate fire spread based on critical surface intensity for crown combustion. In this sense, the useful life of a prescribed fire focuses on surface fuel dynamics and its potential fire behavior. In Pinus pinaster stands, the useful life can be established between 0 and 4 years. Canopy base height, time elapsed from the burning, postfire precipitation, and fine fuel moisture content during the burning were identified as the most important variables in postburn fuel dynamics. Other stand characteristics and postfire precipitation can improve the fine fuel and live fuel dynamics models. Our findings support prescribed fires as an effective fuel treatment in the medium term for forest fire prevention, according to stand characteristics and burning implementation conditions. In this sense, forest managers can use the proposed decision tree to identify the useful life of each prescribed fire based on fine fuel moisture content during burning implementation.

Aim: The article aims to present and evaluate the costs of preventive works carried out in 16 selected longwall panels in the mines of two coal mining com- panies. The article is based on the analysis of data made available by the companies, which the author has properly prepared to enable their comparison. Introduction: Fires occurring in coal mines are one of the more frequent technical hazards. Consequently, the mine’s ventilation departments are re- sponsible for carrying out preventive measures to limit and minimise the fire risk. The danger of a fire in mine workings is connected not only with the possibility of exogenic fire, which is influenced by external factors such as machine and equipment failures, short-circuits in electrical installations or the possibility of a fire on transport routes, but also with endogenic fire, which the low-temperature oxidation of coal may cause with the remains left in long- wall caving. The costs of prevention depend on the method of ventilation of the longwall faces and the coal’s susceptibility to spontaneous combustion. Methodology: The costs of coal mining are very high. They are related to the increasingly difficult mining conditions, which are influenced mainly by the increasing depth of exploitation and the increase in natural and technical hazards during mining work. The costs of mining within a longwall area are usually divided into the costs of starting up the longwall, its exploitation and liquidation. Within this division, more detailed cost analyses are rarely conducted. As part of the research conducted since 2015, ways of cost assessment were developed on the basis of appropriately prepared cost tables for various natural and technical hazards occurring within the ventilation hazards presented in the example discussed in the article. Based on the analyses of unit costs of fire hazard prevention elements obtained in coal companies and the developed cost tables, the costs of prevention works were compiled. The costs of prevention works were evaluated and compared for 16 longwall faces using the elaborated indices. Conclusions: Correctly applied fire hazard prevention in hard coal mines is one of the main elements of maintaining functional safety. Costs of hazard prevention in mines were usually compared together with the costs of exploitation, longwall equipment, media and crew working days. Cost tables were developed as part of the research to allow for cost assessment and determination of fire prevention cost indices. Climate determines the spatiotemporal distribution pattern of forest fires by affecting vegetation and the extent of drought. Thus, analyzing the dynamic change of the forest fire season and its response to climate change will play an important role in targeted adjustments of forest fire management policies and practices. In this study, we studied the spatiotemporal variations in forest fire occurrence in Fujian Province, China using the Mann–Kendall trend test and correlation analysis to analyze Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data from 2001 to 2016 and meteorological data. The results show that forest fire occurrence rose first and then declined over the years, but the proportion of forest fires during the fire prevention period decreased. The forest fires increased significantly in spring and summer, exceeding the forest fires occurring in the fire prevention period in 2010. The spatial distribution of forest fires decreased from northwest to southeast coastal areas, among which the number of forest fires in the northwest mountainous areas was large in autumn and winter. The fire risk weather index was strongly and positively correlated with forest fire occurrence across various sites in the province. The findings accentuate the need for properly adjusting the fire prevention period and resource allocation, strengthening the monitoring and early warning of high fire risk weather, and publicizing wildfire safety in spring and summer. As the forest fire occurrence frequency is high in the western and northwest mountainous areas, more observation towers and forest fire monitoring facilities should be installed.

Boja Market is the main market in Boja District, Kendal, Central Java. Products from agriculture (fruits and vegetables) as well as industrial goods (clothing and electronics) can be sold in this market. Boja Market experienced a fire accident in 2007. As a result, traders suffered losses in the form of burned goods and trading activities in the market were hampered because traders lost their places to trade. Therefore, it is necessary to do fire prevention efforts to prevent fires from occurring. The purpose of this study was to design fire prevention efforts in the Boja Traditional Market, Kendal Regency based on the standard. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The research uses in-depth interviews and field observations, then the existing data is compared with standards for further analysis and design processes. The variable in this study is fire prevention efforts, includes: fire management and fire fighting facilities. The results of the study carried out a comparative analysis with applicable regulatory standards. The proposed design for supporting fire prevention efforts include: organizational structure for fire prevention, standard operating procedures for fire prevention and design of fire facilities layout plans. Traditional Boja Market, Kendal Regency, has carried out fire prevention efforts but has not been maximized so that researchers provide suggestions in the form of designs that are expected to be applied in the market.

By analyzing the typical fire cases and tunnel fire statistics during 2008 to 2013 in Fujian province of China, results shows that the main causes for the fire were vehicle accidents and spontaneous combustion. By the investigation, there are three approaches to prevent the tunnel fire exposed to different combustibles. For flammable solid, an effective method to prevent fires is to decrease the maximum environment temperature and the product concentration. For flammable liquid, adjusting the ambient temperature and enhancing ventilation can prevent or reduce the fire accidents. For flammable gas, the effective method to prevent the fire is to decrease the fuel density and the ambient temperature. So, for long tunnels or busy tunnels, it must strengthen the management of the vehicles. Moreover, in the hot season and rush hour it should control the ambient temperature inside the tunnels.

The purpose of this study is to analyze internal and external environmental factors in the prevention of fire management. As well as designing a strategy formulation for fire prevention. the method used in this study is a SWOT analysis using the QSPM (Quantitative Strategy Planning Matrix). The number of respondents in this study was three people. The results of this study are based on interviews with the fire service which resulted in factors influencing the occurrence of internal and External fires during the fire suppression strategy. The most influential internal factor in terms of strength is establishing an RW-level early handling officer providing counseling to the community. Already has a lot of fleet facilities. Lack of training in new firefighters. External factors in Fire prevention among them. Providing external training to fire officers in the agency/community while in terms of threats, namely weak cooperation with electricity, and water providers. Strategies that can improve at the time of fire prevention in the future. Increase the capacity of building fire prevention to the community and agencies and residents maximize early fire prevention can be done so that the fire is extinguished immediately.

Risk is a concept that denotes the probability of the occurrence of dangers. The factors that generate fires and dangers are numerous, and always emerge in unapparent places. Once these factors are identified, a fire accident would happen and lead to great loss. For the fires happening in tall buildings that caused immense loss, the function of planned fire separation system was destroyed because the users had weak fire prevention concepts. One of the typical examples is the fire that happened and spread over Don-ke Building in Sijhih City, Taipei County, Taiwan. Based on the damage prevention concepts of property insurance agents, the study focused on the importance of the fire prevention management in tall buildings. The other part that was paid attention to is the Fire Safety Building strongly encouraged and propelled by the Architecture and Building Research Institute of Ministry of the Interior, with which the study conducted an investigation on fire risk management.

Based on the accident tree analysis method, this paper conducts a systematic safety analysis of the public entertainment industry and its typical fire cases, and concludes that the decoration of flammable and combustible materials and the storage of flammable and explosive materials are the main causes of fires in public entertainment places, and proposes fire prevention strategies.

Markets are complex entities comprising of multiple units ranging from economic, socio cultural,infrastructural, technological and environmental viewpoints. Therefore, its designs especiallywith regards to fire prevention and control goes beyond active and passive fire prevention andcontrol measures. There are non-salient issues that are usually given less attention but has greatimpact on the causes as well as hinder the control of market fires. Through qualitative approachinvolving observation, this study explored three major markets in Kano city using purposivesampling with a view to identifying the challenges of those markets in achieving the optimumfire prevention and control required for such commercial enterprise. The study found alterations,congestion, clearance, extension, indiscriminate parking, squatter trading, hawking/peddling andpoor circulation as a challenge to optimum fire prevention and control in the markets.Negligence to the fire prevention and control strategies observed in the markets are believed tohave high tendency exacerbating fire disasters with little or no chances of control and evacuation.It is thus imperative to have proactive measures that will enforce the existing developmentcontrol regulations, fire prevention and control act and ensure orderliness in the market. The features of fire safety of residential facilities are considered. The risk factors of high fire hazard of residential facilities are given. There are described conditions that promote the occurrence and development of fires in the residential sector. The main tasks and directions of preventive activities in the residential sector are defined. There are presented the approaches aimed at organization of preventive activities at residential facilities. There are made the proposals to develop preventive measures using specified financial and human resources. There are also stated the proposals both to determine the composition of participants of preventive activities and to ensure their interaction. There are determined the initial data for planning the preventive activities at residential facilities, as well as the composition and authorities of participants of fire prevention activities at residential facilities. The authors present the powers of state authorities of the Russian Federation subjects and local self-government bodies concerning implementation of organizational arrangements for prevention fires in the residential sector.

For every fire prevention design, ensuring safe evacuation and preventing the fire from spreading are primary considerations. However, actual fire scenarios inevitably involve many uncertainties, such as the fire source location, the heat release rate, the fire growth coefficient and so on, which make it difficult for the traditional fire prevention system to achieve these primary considerations. In this paper, an optimum and intelligent system design was developed using the feedback of real-time fire characteristics based on precise control logic using computational fluid dynamics. The new system can make an intelligent adjustment to adapt the real-time fire and to obtain the best smoke exhaust condition by coupling the smoke control system and a physical boundary. The fire uncertainties were used to validate the system design, based on a conventional composite building containing room, corridor and atrium. The results show that the intelligent system is capable of providing different and reasonable reactions for various fire scenarios and of ensuring the safe evacuation of the building. Some limitations of the system have been improved by incorporating a constraint factor into activation procedures for solving extra-large and ultra-fast fires. In general, this intelligent design proved useful as a smoke control system which could be implemented in many similar buildings.

Forest fires affect ecosystems and cause damage that can be minimized by fire prevention programs. The objective was to determine the periods with the highest probability of occurrence of forest fires in Brazil. Heat source records detected by satellites between 1999 and 2014, and the frequency of occurrences of fire and burnt area sizes from 2006 to 2014, were evaluated. A statistical analysis of averages grouping allowed to separate the months with the highest number of heat sources into homogeneous groups, being possible to validate them with the months with the highest record of fires in the Conservation Units, thus defining the normal fire season. The number of heat sources records in Brazil was higher in winter and spring, dry seasons with lower rainfall and higher temperatures, with normal fire season from August to November. The fire occurrences were higher between August and October, with the higher burnt area in September. The periods of highest fire occurrence in Brazil varied between regions according to the climatological characteristics, and therefore strategies for fire prevention and control in vegetation must be intensified during the normal fire season. The period from August to November needs the greatest attention from the public authorities regarding the implementation of prevention and control fire programs. The months September and October make up the normal fire season from all regions of the Brazil.

Fire is one of the most common production safety accident. The trend of fire can be mastered by analyzing the historical data. This paper explores the features of recent fires in China, predicts fire by two methods, namely, grey theory, and grey Markov theory, and compares the prediction results of the two methods. The results show that: the number of fires in China increased greatly in 2013; Since 2014, the number of fires, as well as the number of deaths, the number of injured, and property loss induced by fires were declining. The maximum relative error of grey prediction was 5.8%, and that of grey Markov prediction was 5%; grey theory is less accurate in fire prediction than grey Markov prediction. According to the causes and features of fires, several preventive measures were put forward. The research results provide insights into the prevention of fires and protection of production safety.

The phenomenon of peatland fires in Kubu Raya Regency occurs continuously every year. The Ambawang River-Kubu River KHG is one of the BRG priority target areas in the early stages. Hotspots that fluctuated from 2009 to 2019 indicate that all efforts to prevent and control peatland fires in the Kubu Raya Regency area are still not effective. It is necessary to identify the activities that have been carried out by the community and related parties (stakeholders), internal and external factors, and formulate alternative strategies for preventing peatland fires according to conditions in the Ambawang River–Sungai Kubu KHG area. Observations were used to collect field conditions at the research site. SWOT analysis is used to determine the best strategy that farmers should take to prevent peatland fires. The absence of dams drilled wells and canal blocking, lack of fire extinguishers, poor early warning system, infrequent socialization, and appeals for land fire prevention by the relevant agencies and the newly formed MPA. Prevention of land fires is in the WT strategy, where the recommended strategies are to survive by continuing to do corn farming, conducting various simple experiments to find better ways to harvest corn without burning the land, forming farmer groups as a means of deliberation and exchange of ideas, increasing the role of active farmers in seeking various information related to agriculture and land fire prevention.

We also attempt to explain the reasons for the difference between the relatively high incidence of airway explosions and fires that have occurred during tracheostomy with electrosurgery and electrocautery and the low incidence of these events during electrosurgical dissection of the tonsils. Finally, we review the precautions that physicians can take to lower the risk of operating-room fires and explosions.

The following article deals with more than 20 years of historical wildland fire data from the Czech Republic, logged in the databases of the operational centers of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic (FRS of CR). First, the definition of the term wildland fire is introduced. After that, the locations of wildland fires are discussed, from the point of view of their introduction into the information systems. Next, as the FRS of CR is organized on a regional basis, the number of wildland fires is analyzed regionally. On the basis of this analysis, some advice concerning the preparation for and prevention of wildland fires is provided—for example, focusing fire prevention campaigns in regions where the wildland fire incidence per inhabitant is high, planning aerial firefighting asset coverage with respect to the occurrence of wildland fires, or deploying the necessary fire suppression equipment according to the dominant wildland fire fuel type. Finally, questions concerning the homogeneity of groups of wildland fires which naturally emerge during the process of selection from the emergency database are discussed.

AbstractThis article presents topics concerning fire hazards during the use of low-speed diesel engines in marine vehicles. The causes and effects of fires in the spaces of scavenge air receivers in marine diesel engines are presented. Methods to prevent and fight these fires are shown, including the operating procedures required from ship engine room operators. The possibility of training personnel to apply the abovementioned procedures during operation using simulations of a Kongsberg MC-90 IVship engine room is presented. Simulations were conducted which included a fire in a scavenge air receiver occurring during the operation of a MAN B&W 5L90MC main engine, with loads corresponding to 50% and 100% of the machine’s recommended setting.
