The aim of this work was to improve the performances of Fil-s (film-small), a recycled material obtained from plastic flexible film waste that is made of polyethylene and a minor amount of polypropylene, with traces of polar contaminants (polyamides, maleic anhydride, etc.). The idea was to upgrade the material’s mechanical properties by applying a nanotechnology-based strategy that takes advantage of the composition of Fil-s. In particular, different amounts of copolyamide (CoPA) and its masterbatch with an organic-modified nanosilicate were melt compounded with Fil-s in a twin-screw extruder. The good affinity between Fil-s and CoPA, proved by means of spectroscopic and rheological analysis, allowed for the obtaining of a well-refined morphology for the neat and hybrid blends. This resulted in very interesting increments of the strain at break, which was particularly impressive (10 times higher) in the case of the blend with the lower amount of copolyamide masterbatch, but without sacrificing the stiffness and strength of Fil-s.

Patterning flexible substrates in nano scale is an important and challenging issue in the fabrication of next-generation devices based on a non-silicon substrate. Step and Flash imprint lithography (S-FIL®) which is a room temperature and low pressure process offers several important advantages, such as the use of a smaller and therefore cheaper stamp or the possibility of the overlay imprinting, as a transparent stamp is utilized. However, it is very difficult to perform S-FIL on a flexible substrate successfully due to the high waviness. The waviness of a flexible substrate is not a constant value in contrast to a rigid substrate. It depends on the imprint pressure applied onto the substrate. In this paper, in section two, the effect of the imprint pressure on the waviness of the surface of the flexible substrate is examined. It is proved that the waviness of the surface of the flexible substrate could not be reduced sufficiently to assure a successful imprint at low imprint pressures. In the third section, a method of patterning polymer substrates using ultra-violet nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL) is presented. The method consists of two stages, stamping-based planarization and S-FIL. In stamping-based planarization, a planarization layer of transparent polymer is formed onto the flexible substrate. Waviness of the blank stamp (in this study, glass wafer) is transferred to the planarization layer. S-FIL is performed with the nanoimprint tool IMPRIO100 directly onto the planarization layer employing a 1 × 1 in.2 quartz stamp. Optical microscope and SEM images of the successfully imprinted patterns were also presented.

This study focuses on the upgrading strategies to make Fil-s (acronym for film-small), a polyolefin-based material coming from the mechanical recycling of post-consumer flexible packaging, fit for re-use in the piping sector. The effects of washing treatments (at cold and hot conditions) and the addition of an experimental compatibilizer on the chemical-physical properties of Fil-s were first assessed. The measurements of some key properties (density, melt flow index, flexural modulus, yield strength), for both Fil-s as such and the different developed Fil-s based systems, was also conducted in order to evaluate the suitability of this complex and challenging waste stream to replace virgin PE-based pipe and fitting products, in compliance to ASTM D3350 standard. The outcomes of the present work contributed to define a code, for each Fil-s system investigated, useful for identifying the level of their performance in piping applications. All the recyclates were extruded as pipes by using a pilot scale plant, but the process resulted more stable and continuous with the compatibilized Fil-s, as it was deducible from its flow properties. Moreover, the best mechanical performances were exhibited by the hot-washed Fil-s pipes, with an increase in pipe stiffness equal to 65% respect to the unwashed sample.

Currently, plastic packaging represents a global challenge and has become a key point of attention for governments, media and consumers due to the visibility of the waste it generates. Despite their high resource efficiency, the perceived non-recyclability of polymeric films risks precluding them from being a relevant packaging solution in a circular economy approach. In this regard, the aim of this study was to implement a strategy to try closing the loop, via the mechanical recycling of post-consumer flexible packaging of small size (denoted as Fil-s) to obtain new films. In particular, two lots of Fil-s were used, which are PE/PP blends differing for the PP content and the presence of polar contaminants. The suitability for film blowing extrusion of these recycled materials, as such and after the addition of a compatibilizer and/or a lamellar nanosilicate, was evaluated. It was first evidenced that the difficulty of producing blown films with the pristine recycled materials, due to the frequent bubble breakages, occurring even at low draw ratios. Moreover, the shear and extensional rheological behavior of all Fil-s based systems was usefully correlated with their processability features, evidencing the key roles of the nanofiller to stabilize the bubble and of the compatibilizer to ensure a uniform film deformation, avoiding its premature breakage. Even if the adopted upgrading strategies allowed the production of blown films with both types of Fil-s, the different components of the recycled matrices were proven to significantly affect their processability and final film performances.

L’apport de l’article est une contribution à la compréhension du zonage, tout particulièrement dans la marge qu’il peut prendre afin de laisser émerger la ville de la proximité. L’observation nous montre un objet souple, flexible et qui s’hybride lorsqu’il se trouve dans des situations autres que celles qui l’ont vu naître. Au fil de ses déplacements à travers le monde, d’abord le zonage s’articule avec l’existant, le transforme, et à son tour se transforme. Le zonage peut aussi produire un urbanisme fait de combinaisons et de fusionnements entre objets, de mobilisations entre acteurs. Au Japon, le zonage participe étonnamment bien à la ville de la proximité.

The emission of off-odors from mechanically recycled plastics severely limits their re-introduction into the market for the production of new objects, for the same use or even for less demanding applications, thus hindering the implementation of an effective circular economy for plastics. The addition of adsorbing agents during the extrusion of polymers represents one of the most promising strategy to reduce the odorous emissions of plastics, due to its characteristics of cost-effectiveness, flexibility and low energy consumption. The novelty of this work lies in the assessment of zeolites as VOC adsorbents during the extrusion of recycled plastics. They appear more suitable than other types of adsorbents, due to their ability to capture and “hold” the adsorbed substances at the high temperatures of the extrusion process. Moreover, the effectiveness of this deodorization strategy was compared with the traditional degassing technique. Two types of mixed polyolefin wastes, coming from completely different collection and recycling processes, were tested: Fil-S (Film-Small), deriving from post-consumer flexible films of small size, and PW (pulper waste), which is the residual plastic waste obtained from the paper recycling process. The melt compounding of the recycled materials with two micrometric zeolites (zeolite 13X and Z310) resulted as more effective in the off-odors removal with respect to degassing. In particular, the highest reduction (−45%) of the Average Odor Intensity (AOI) was measured for both PW/Z310 and Fil-S/13X systems at 4 wt% of the zeolites’ amount, compared with the corresponding untreated recyclates. Finally, by combining degassing and melt compounding with zeolites, the best result was obtained for the composite Fil-S/13X, whose Average Odor Intensity resulted as quite close (+22%) to the one of the virgin LDPE.

Le concept de la Supply Chain 4.0 est en pleine expansion qui se réfère à l’intégration des nouvelles technologies à l’ensemble des acteurs de la Supply Chain avec l’objectif d’intégrer les flux de matières et de données pour obtenir une Supply Chain plus sûre, plus rapide et plus flexible. Cet ouvrage collectif, a un titre attrayant, est entièrement centré sur la Supply Chain 4.0. Le thème est d'une grande actualité. Bien que très intéressé par le sujet, j'ai eu un peu de mal à terminer les 281 pages car les douze chapitres de cet ouvrage manquent d’un fil directeur et la valeur ajoutée est relativement variable d’un chapitre à un autre. Cependant, cet ouvrage apporte un bon éclairage scientifique sur la façon dont certaines technologies de l'Industrie 4.0 peuvent améliorer les Supply Chains.

We experimentally investigate the extensional flow of a sheet – or curtain – of viscoelastic liquid falling freely from a slot at constant flow rate under gravity. Extruded liquids are aqueous solutions of flexible polyethylene oxide (PEO) and of semi-rigid partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide (HPAM) with low shear viscosities. Velocimetry measurements reveal that the mean velocity field $U(z)$ (where $z$ is the distance from the slot exit) does not reduce to a free fall. More precisely, we show that the liquid falls initially with sub-gravitational accelerations up to a distance from the slot which scales as $g\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}_{fil}^{2}$ (where $g$ is gravity and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}_{fil}$ is the extensional relaxation time of the liquid) due to the stretching of polymer molecules. Beyond this elastic length, inertia dominates and the local acceleration reaches the asymptotic free-fall value $g$. The length of the sub-gravitational part of the curtain is shown to be much larger than the equivalent viscous length $((4\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}/\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C})^{2}/g)^{1/3}$ for Newtonian liquids of density $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}$ and dynamic viscosity $\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}$ which is usually small compared to the curtain length. By analogy with Newtonian curtains, we show that the velocity field $U(z)$ rescales on a master curve. Besides, the flow is shown to be only weakly affected by the history of polymer deformations in the die upstream of the curtain. Furthermore, investigations on the curtain stability reveal that polymer addition reduces the minimum flow rate required to maintain a continuous sheet of liquid.

Abstract Background. Immunochemotherapy is effective in follicular lymphoma (FL), but most patients (pts) eventually relapse. MRD analysis, based on the detection of Bcl-2/IGH rearrangement by highly sensitive PCR-based tools, is effective in identifying pts at risk of relapse [Ladetto Blood 2012; Pott EHA23]. However, several issues are still unresolved, including: i) which is the best tissue source and the most reliable technique; ii) which are the most predictive time points; iii) which is the role of disease kinetics during the long natural history of FL. The FIL FOLL12 prospective, phase III randomized clinical trial (EudraCT: 2012-003170-60) included a systematic MRD analysis on both peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow (BM) taken at eight different pre-planned time points, by both nested and real time quantitative (RQ)-PCR. Therefore, it allows addressing these unresolved issues. Methods. The FOLL12 compared conventional rituximab maintenance [Salles et al, Lancet 2010] vs a combined PET/MRD response-based post-induction approach in pts with advanced FL after first line chemo-immunotherapy. Clinical results have been already reported [Luminari et al, ICML16]. PB and BM samples were centralized at four Italian Euro-MRD certified laboratories. MRD was assessed with consensus primers on Bcl-2/IGH rearrangements (MBR, mcr and minor rearrangements) by both nested and RQ-PCR at eight time points: baseline, end of induction (EoI) and every six months thereafter till month 36. MRD data were treated as a time-varying covariate and analyzed by means of flexible parametric survival model (Parmar-Royston) with the log cumulative baseline hazard function. MRD data were modeled with restricted cubic spline as function of time. Effect of fixed covariates and landmark analysis were performed with the Cox PH regression. Any estimation was reported with its 95%CI. Results. Overall, 10,702 analytical results were generated, (3,000 for marker screening and 7,702 for MRD). 780 of 786 eligible pts (99%) were screened at baseline for the presence of a molecular marker. 443/780 (57%) had a detectable Bcl-2/IGH rearrangement, as expected. High rates of MRD negativity were observed at EoI, with similar results by both techniques (87% in BM and 95% in PB by nested-PCR, 90% in BM and 95% in PB with RQ-PCR). Overall, the presence of one MRD positive result was associated during the entire follow-up period with an increased risk of relapse in the subsequent six months interval (HR for PFS 2.82, 95% CI 1.84-4.34, p<0.001), independently from randomization arm (heterogenous test for HR in PFS 0.330), treatment received (HR 0.859) and FLIPI-2 (HR 0.302). Most notably, a sharp increase of HR was observed during follow-up, with time points after 6 and particularly after 12 months or later outperforming the earliest evaluation. Interestingly, very similar results were recorded in BM or PB and using nested or RQ-PCR (Figure 1A). Despite inferior performance compared to later timepoints, MRD positivity in BM at EoI was nevertheless predictive of a shorter 4y-PFS (61% vs 75% by nested-PCR and 54% vs 74% by RQ-PCR, p=0.03 and p=0.003, respectively). Moreover, a kinetic analysis showed that pts scoring MRD+ at EoI but converting to MRD- in the following time points showed superimposable outcome to pts persistently MRD- (HR for PFS 0.66, 95% CI 0.24-1.82, p=0.420), while pts scoring MRD- at EoI but then converting to MRD+ showed a worse outcome (HR for PFS 1.75, 95% CI 1.21-2.53, p=0.003) (Figure 1B). Actually, Kaplan Meier landmark analyses stratified by updated MRD results at each punctual timepoint after EoI were overall highly discriminant in terms of PFS, with PB results (Figure 1C) substantially overlapping BM performances from months 12 after EoI (not shown) and thereafter. Conclusions. This comprehensive MRD study in FL clearly indicates that: i) punctual MRD analysis is predictive of poor outcome at multiple pre-planned time points taken over a 36 months period; ii) both nested and RQ-PCR performed adequately, the latter being preferable as broadly used and internationally standardized; iii) BM allows better prediction at the early time points but, starting from month 12 after EoI PB is superimposable to BM, allowing effective and reliable long-term non-invasive MRD monitoring; iv) the high predictive value of punctual time point analysis is further improved by a kinetic approach to the interpretation of MRD results. Résumé Alors que nombre de pays européens sont confrontés à un chômage croissant et persistant, le Royaume-Uni enregistre depuis 1994 un repli marqué de son taux de chômage (6,4% au début de 1998 après 10,5% cinq ans plus tôt). Selon les autorités, cette performance serait liée à la déréglementation du marché du travail et aux changements introduits depuis presque deux décennies dans les modes de gestion du rapport salarial. La décentralisation des négociations aurait permis aux entreprises de mieux s'ajuster, de créer davantage d'emplois, et en plus d'abaisser le taux de chômage d'équilibre, les salaires faisant preuve d'un remarquable contrôle à cette phase du cycle économique. Si ces performances du marché du travail sont à mettre en partie à l'actif de la rupture de la politique économique avec les décennies soixante et soixante-dix, elles doivent être interprétées avec prudence. Contrairement aux attentes un marché dit flexible, la croissance n'est pas plus riche en emplois au Royaume-Uni qu'en France. Au contraire. La reprise des emplois se doit surtout à une croissance particulièrement vigoureuse (3% depuis 1993). Par ailleurs, l'éclatement du rapport salarial s'est traduit au fil des années par une réorganisation du travail, articulée autour d'une répartition bipolaire des heures travaillées et du développement de formes atypiques d'emplois, visant à une meilleure utilisation de la structure productive. Cette configuration permis, au cours des années quatre- vingt-dix, une décrue sensible du chômage féminin, en même temps qu'elle nourrissait un chômage élevé chez les hommes et un désengagement important de certaines catégories sociales, vis à vis marché du travail. Cette absence de flexion, inhabituelle en période de reprise des créations d'emplois a contribué fortement au repli du taux de chômage, et marque probablement les limites de la flexibilité microéconomique britannique. En se recentrant dans l'entreprise, les négociations sont devenues de plus en plus dépendantes de considérations microéconomiques. Or, en l'absence de coordination et de probables divergences d'intérêt entre les intervenants, cette apparente flexibilité ne fournit pas nécessairement un cadre macroéconomique stable aux entreprises, et des conditions d'ajustements optimales. Il semble au contraire que certaines rigidités subsistent, notamment dans les modes de formation des prix et des salaires, et qui auraient conduit au cours des années récentes à une sous-indexation obligée des salaires réels à la productivité.

Multi-Constraint Shortest Path ( MCSP ) generalizes the classic shortest path from single to multiple criteria such that more personalized needs can be satisfied. However, MCSP query is essentially a high-dimensional skyline problem and thus time-consuming to answer. Although the current Forest Hop Labeling (FHL) index can answer MCSP efficiently, it takes a long time to construct and lacks the flexibility to handle arbitrary criteria combinations. In this paper, we propose a skyline-cube-based FHL index that can handle the flexible MCSP efficiently. Firstly, we analyze the relation between low and high-dimensional skyline paths theoretically and use a cube to organize them hierarchically. After that, we propose methods to derive the high-dimensional path from the lower ones, which can adapt to the flexible scenario naturally and reduce the expensive high dimensional path concatenation. Then we introduce efficient methods for both single and multi-hop cube concatenations and propose pruning methods to further alleviate the computation. Finally, we improve the FHL structure with lower height for faster construction and query. Experiments on real-life road networks demonstrate the superiority of our method over the state-of-the-art.

This article analyzes the ideology and practice of multi-unit competition that pervades neoliberal subjectivities and produces the “ideal” flexible worker within contemporary global capitalism. It demonstrates how state and capitalist interests converge to influence the selection of the ideal transnational migrant worker, how prospective migrants adapt to these expectations, and the consequences of such enactments, particularly for migrants, but also for the societies in which they live and work. Multiple levels of actors—employers, state bureaucrats, and migrants themselves—collude in producing the flexible, subaltern citizen, which includes constructions and relations of class, race, gender, and nationality/citizenship. The case study focuses on Mexican and Jamaican participants in Canada's Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program, a managed migration program that legally employs circular migrant farmworkers from Mexico and several English-speaking Caribbean countries in Canadian agriculture.

This study focuses on the ability of preschool children with specific language impairment (SLI) to extract target regularities from recurring nonverbal stimuli. As a step beyond previous methodologies, we also assessed their ability to shift and extract other regularities after feedback indicated that their choices were no longer correct. This step was motivated by Connell and Stone's (1994) hypothesis that difficulties manifested by children with SLI in extracting nonverbal "rules" from multiple problem sets may reflect difficulties in "flexible reconceptualization," that is, in the ability to flexibly shift across regularities. Thirty 4- and 5-year-olds with SLI and 30 age-matched children developing language normally participated in a discrimination learning-shift paradigm. Findings indicated that both language groups were successful in extracting regularities and making shifts. In fact, language groups did not differ in number of regularities extracted, number of shifts completed, or trials to criterion. As a consequence, findings failed to provide evidence that children with SLI are limited in either the ability to extract nonverbal regularities or to flexibly reconceptualize them. From a larger theoretical perspective, the findings fail to support theories positing that generalized "rule-induction" deficits underlie the verbal and nonverbal impairments of SLI.

Popularity of conducting polymers are become widely known and researches for practical application also has been done. In order to developed a continuous process for industrial scale, we have proposed a spray pyrolysis method to synthesis a flexible conductive film of Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and annealed at different temperatures and spray distances. The optimum condition that resulting a best morphology was anneal at 90oC and 20 cm distance with electrical conductivity 4.5 S/cm. It was found that annealing at temperature higher than 90oC will resulting a stress to a film and formed crack due to a different thermal expansion, while at the distance higher than 20 cm resulting a loss of PEDOT:PSS droplets. IR spectra shows that there is no any sign of PEDOT:PSS degradation even at 110oC. Data integrity is one of the most critical security concerns for users when using the cloud storage service. However, it is difficult for users to always stay online and frequently interact with storage service providers to ensure continuous data integrity in practice. The existing Proof of Storage-time schemes, enabling verifiable continuous data integrity checking at cost of performance, fail to provide flexible storage period, reliable measurement of storage time, and resistance to the outsourcing attack. In this paper, we propose EnclavePoSt, the first practical Proof of Storage-time via Intel SGX, where the data integrity checking can be automatically executed in a hardware-driven Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), i.e., the enclave, when users are offline. The checking results can be aggregated and efficiently verified by users. Besides, the elapsed time during isolated data integrity checking can be precisely measured, and the storage period is allowed to flexibly change. Lastly, our EnclavePoSt is resistant to the outsourcing attack. The security analysis and evaluations justify that the EnclavePoSt is more practical than previous works.

Many AI researchers are today striving to build agent teams for complex, dynamic multi-agent domains, with intended applications in arenas such as education, training, entertainment, information integration, and collective robotics. Unfortunately, uncertainties in these complex, dynamic domains obstruct coherent teamwork. In particular, team members often encounter differing, incomplete, and possibly inconsistent views of their environment. Furthermore, team members can unexpectedly fail in fulfilling responsibilities or discover unexpected opportunities. Highly flexible coordination and communication is key in addressing such uncertainties. Simply fitting individual agents with precomputed coordination plans will not do, for their inflexibility can cause severe failures in teamwork, and their domain-specificity hinders reusability. Our central hypothesis is that the key to such flexibility and reusability is providing agents with general models of teamwork. Agents exploit such models to autonomously reason about coordination and communication, providing requisite flexibility. Furthermore, the models enable reuse across domains, both saving implementation effort and enforcing consistency. This article presents one general, implemented model of teamwork, called STEAM. The basic building block of teamwork in STEAM is joint intentions (Cohen & Levesque, 1991b); teamwork in STEAM is based on agents' building up a (partial) hierarchy of joint intentions (this hierarchy is seen to parallel Grosz & Kraus's partial SharedPlans, 1996). Furthermore, in STEAM, team members monitor the team's and individual members' performance, reorganizing the team as necessary. Finally, decision-theoretic communication selectivity in STEAM ensures reduction in communication overheads of teamwork, with appropriate sensitivity to the environmental conditions. This article describes STEAM's application in three different complex domains, and presents detailed empirical results.

Computing a mapping between two process models is a crucial technique, since it enables reasoning and operating across processes, like providing a similarity score between two processes, or merging different process variants to generate a consolidated process model. In this paper we present a new flexible technique for process model mapping, based on the relaxation labeling constraint satisfaction algorithm. The technique can be instantiated so that different modes are devised, depending on the context. For instance, it can be adapted to the case where one of the mapped process models is incomplete, or it can be used to ground an adaptable similarity measure between process models. The approach has been implemented inside the open platform NLP4BPM, providing a visualization of the performed mappings and computed similarity scores. The experimental results witness the flexibility and usefulness of the technique proposed.

This article explores some concerns about the concept of neo-liberalism, suggesting that it has been stretched too far to be productive as a critical analytical tool. Neo-liberalism suffers from promiscuity (hanging out with various theoretical perspectives), omnipresence (treated as a universal or global phenomenon), and omnipotence (identified as the cause of a wide variety of social, political and economic changes). Alternative ways of treating neo-liberalism as more contingent and contested are considered. These emphasize its mobile and flexible character, stressing processes of contextual assemblage, articulation, and translation. The article concludes by wondering whether the concept of neo-liberalism is now so overused that it should be retired.

Aim: The RNA recognition code of an RNA-binding protein known as Pumilio/FBF (PUF) protein was reprogrammed in order to provide binding to internal ribosome entry site (IRES) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genome. Materials & methods: The ability of the modified protein to repress IRES-dependent translation was analyzed by dual-luciferase reporter assay, cell viability assay, cell cytotoxicity assay and anti-HCV assay. Results: The modified protein was able to reduce reporter gene expression (>30%) and HCV viral load (>98%) and reduced HCV-induced cytotoxicity to the level observed in uninfected cells. Conclusion: Our results can set the stage for using modified PUFs for interfering with critical steps such as replication and translation in virus life cycle, especially RNA viruses.

Foreign body aspiration is uncommon in adults and the diagnosis may be delayed in the elderly, as many fail to provide a history of choking during initial evaluation. Flexible bronchoscopy is a useful tool for foreign body extraction from the tracheobronchial tree in selected cases. A Sixty-two year old male presented with history of cough, purulent sputum and intermittent hemoptysis. CT scan of the thorax demonstrated a radio-dense foreign body in the bronchus intermedius causing focal narrowing. Flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy revealed a glistening white bone in the distal bronchus intermedius which was successfully grasped with the flexible forceps and extracted via the oral route with the bronchoscope. Abstract In capitalist Eastern Europe, surplus population is created at the intersection of economic restructuring, leading to the decline of jobs, the absorption of housing in broader circuits of capital accumulation, and the state's disinvestment in social housing. Drawing on the lived experiences of the impoverished Roma from Baia Mare (Maramureș county, Romania), I analyze how racialization produces them as surplus-as-laborer and surplus-as-tenant. The article explores the historically constituted labor-housing nexus. Capitalist enterprises are interested in having permanent access to a cheap and flexible labor force that reproduces in housing conditions that are as low cost as they are inadequate. Private real estate capital excludes those who cannot afford the fast-rising level of the ground rent while the post-socialist state refuses to invest in public housing.

The article is devoted to the current topic of relations between the authorities and the elite, namely, an analysis of the process of elaborating by the government of the Russian Empire of ways to respond to the increased petition activity of the nobility after the abolition of serfdom. M.A. Korf, who headed the Second Department of His Imperial Majesty’s own chancellery, took part in this activity, as evidenced by his note and its subsequent discussion with government representatives. The novelty of the article is represented by the author's conclusion that the ban on the submission of collective petitions of the nobility about abuses and problems in local and central administration was gradually formalized in government offices several years before its adoption and became an instrument of flexible policy of the authorities in relation to the upper class during the reform period.

Land shortage in metropolitan vicinities entails subsurface implementation of power transmission lines (PTLs) which demand structural flexibility, as well as substantial load bearing capability. Thus, development of a flexible gas insulated transmission line (FGIL) necessitates its strength degradation analysis, regarding the synergistic effect of aging and mechanical loadings. Moreover, correlation of conductor and enclosure dimensions of FGIL apropos field distribution, requires careful consideration regarding their dimensional specifications. In this research, a comprehensive electro-mechanical design is performed for the proposed flexible-thermoplastic-enclosure of a 132 kV FGIL by considering the synergistic impact of time and temperature-based aging, along with the effect of external and internal loadings, such as dead load, live load and internal gas pressure. Additionally, a recursive design algorithm for the proposed scheme regarding electro-mechanical aspects, along with aging perspectives is developed. Comparative analysis of proposed and conventional schemes regarding electro-mechanical and aging aspects revealed that the proposed enclosure exhibits the required structural strength, as well as flexibility for trenchless subsurface application of FGILs in metropolitan areas.

This article explores feelings of disappointment and failure among migrants in Italy. It argues that the ubiquitous circulation of discourses of disappointment can be traced to restricted possibilities for upward mobility produced by the legal, economic, and social forms of marginalization that migrants in Italy encounter. Disappointment, it contends, is the product of an imaginary migration trajectory that views moving on from Italy as the only way to be successful. Arguing that some low-status migrants can be considered “flexible citizens,” I examine how my respondents’ desires for mobility are shaped by opportunities and restrictions that are integral to late capitalism, as well as by the differentiated inclusion into the global market that these produce. By their very nature, however, I show how these desires neglect other kinds of future imaginaries and arguably impede the chance to build greater equality for migrants and their children in the future.

In this theme section we explore why and when states knowingly refrain from recording people and their activities. States are not simply in pursuit of enhanced “legibility”; at times they also need to be able to “look away.” In explaining strategies of nonrecording, our focus is on how subjects negotiate with state recording agencies, how nonrecording relieves state agents from the burden of accountability, how the discretionary power of individual state agents affects (non)recording in unanticipated ways, and how states may project an illusion of vigorous recording internationally while actually engaging in deliberate nonrecording. Presenting case studies from China, Greece, the Netherlands, India, and Romania, we show that strategies of nonrecording are flexible, selective, and aimed at certain populations—and that both citizens and noncitizens can be singled out for nonrecording or derecording. In analyzing this state-produced social oblivion, divergences between national and local levels are of crucial significance.

Flexible electric heaters are widely employed in the field of in-situ repair of composite structures for aircrafts. However, the existing traditional resistance wire heaters suffer from low damage tolerance, uneven heating, and high energy consumption. In this paper, a flexible Fiber Graphene Laminated heater(FGL heater) is proposed, which exhibits much better thermal efficiency in terms of heating rate, temperature uniformity, and energy consumption. The experimental results demonstrate that the traditional resistance wire heater achieves a heating rate of 0.58℃/s, with a maximum temperature difference of approximately 10℃under a 300W input power, which consumes 81.7×103J to heat from 24.6℃ to 100℃. In contrast, under the equal input power, the proposed FGL heater achieves a significantly higher heating rate of 3.8℃/s with a maximum temperature difference not exceeding 7℃. It only consumes 12.1×103J to reach the same temperature, reducing energy consumption by 85.2%. The silicone-encapsulated FGL heater also exhibits a heating rate of 1.1℃/s with a maximum temperature difference not exceeding 4℃. It consumes 45.7×103J, reducing energy consumption by 44%. Streszczenie:

The present article hinges primarily on the research of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of human resources of rural Yakutia in the Soviet period. The regional experience in implementing the policy of introduc-ing secondary universal education in rural areas is considered. Republican measures to involve working youth in a flexible educational system through educational and advisory centers, part-time and evening schools are highlighted. Difficulties in providing universal schooling for rural schoolchildren and lagging behind the materi-al and technical base of educational institutions in small and remote settlements are pointed out. According to the study, in the period of 1960–1980s, the network of rural schools of different forms of education expanded in the republic and the number of secondary school students increased. Thanks to targeted campaigns, a real breakthrough in the education system occurred, and the level of general education of rural youth and agricul-tural workers in general was raised.

AbstractWatery tobacco extracts were examined with the aid of flow-injection analysis (FIA) for the substances nicotine, nitrate, chloride, ammonium and phosphate. The results proved to be exact and reproducible for the most part and the speed of analysis was between 37 and 113 measurements per hour. Because of its simple modular design the appliance is flexible in its application and is above all suited for the analysis for several components in small series of samples. A special FIA technique (stopped-flow method) enables the undersurface absorption stemming from the sample matrix to be excluded. The solutions used must exhibit uniform fluid composition and the formation of gas bubbles in the analysis system must be excluded.

Flexible-delivery marriage education (ME) has many advantages over traditional alternatives in reaching couples during the time of COVID-19 lockdown or other national emergencies. In an effort to add to the research of flexible-delivery ME, this exploratory study evaluated an online class adapted from an empirically-validated, marriage curriculum (Four Gifts of Love Class, [FGL]) under home lockdown conditions lasting over 2 months caused by COVID-19 government restrictions. Using a concurrent multiple-baseline single-case experimental design, three distressed couples residing in the Philippines completed seven online lessons over 7 weeks while experiencing home lockdown. Visual analysis of the data suggested that all three couples responded positively to the intervention. The Tau-U and SMDall analyses for each couple ranged from a small to large effect size on measures of marital adjustment (weighted average Tau-U = .50, p < .05; BC-SMD = 0.34) and romantic love (weighted average Tau-U = .52, p < .01; BC-SMD = 0.31), with increases reaching clinical and statistical significance for one couple out of the three. In addition, there was no attrition. The promising results from this preliminary study suggested that the online adaptation of FGL as a flexible-delivery ME could mitigate marital decline, especially during times of calamity when traditional-delivery ME is unavailable and marital decline is predicted. Further study of this program and other online ME programs are recommended to expand the limited research in this area of flexible-delivery ME.

ABSTRACT: This article relates the piecemeal history of the motion-picture rights contract—a legal document that emerged following several high-profile court cases that clarified the distinct existence of film rights from other subsidiary rights, including dra matic or theatrical. By delving into negotiations surrounding several film rights contracts between best-selling author Edna Ferber and Warner Bros., I demonstrate the tenuous relationship between the American copyright system and the trade practices developed by lawyers and agents. Without clear guidance on subsidiary rights, motion-picture rights contracts were inherently flexible documents, capable of bending to favor whichever side could leverage the most power.
