Streszczenie:

This study aims to investigate the consequences for feminist sex therapy that it is promoted as an alternative to a mainstream approach. Analytically I focus on the relation between normativity, claims to knowledge and professional legitimacy. I study sex therapeutic academic texts, and the material is approached through a framework developed by combining Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledges with elements from Karen Barad’s agential realism

My analysis starts in feminist sex therapists’ criticism of how masculine norms in mainstream sex therapy lead to a flawed theory of sexual matters. Feminist sex therapists, however, allege that it is specifically feminist norms that grant a more complete theory of sex and sexual problems within feminist alternatives in sex therapy. To that effect, feminists discern sexual problems in relation to the impact a patriarchal society has on particularly women’s sexualities, and treatment is articulated as seeking to liberate women from constraints associated with gendered social positions.

In mainstream sex therapy, allegedly value-neutral insights into human physiology are called upon for the establishment of professional legitimacy. Nevertheless, normative investments are relied upon implicitly to discern sexual problems and sexual well-being with the consequence that sexual problems are understood as conditions that interfere with the ability to have sex, largely equated with coitus, and with the motivation to form coupled sexual relations. By alleviating sexual problems, these abilities and motivations are allegedly restored in the form of natural, already present, capacities for sexual functioning. Comparing my analysis to feminist critiques, I argue that the latter have not fully theorized the significance of normative investments, and have left unchallenged assumptions in mainstream therapy that enable a restorative and liberationist construal of sex therapy’s objective.

Although feminist alternatives contain a markedly different theorization of sexual problems, they have retained, from the mainstream approach, the notion that sex therapy seeks to liberate its clients. This notion stands in conflict with feminist theorizations of sexual problems, and in my conclusion I argue that feminist sex therapy would benefit from abandoning its liberationist element.

Adler (1931, 1938) adopted and defended a decidedly pro feminist perspective in Individual Psychology. Without question , he was the first mainstream psychologist of the 20th century to address the alleged inferiority of women and the myth of masculine superiority. During his lifetime, feminism was still in its first wave, its first phase of development. It would be another 50 years before feminism evolved into a psycho therapeutic model. Currently, the emphasis on women's issues in Adlerian therapy depends largely on the practitioner's interest in making women's issues a focus of counseling or therapy. This article reviews earlier Adlerian scholarship in an effort to reclaim a pro feminist orientation for Individual Psychology and suggests a process for integrating feminist and Adlerian therapies.

Streszczenie:
The Canadian government's Task Force Report on Federally Sentenced Women, Creating Choices (1990), presents a clear mandate for correctional reforms that provide women-centred therapeutic programming to address the issues of women's exploitation and abuse. This shift in correctional policy away from the traditional sexist and neglectful models of previous government reports is the result of a collective effort of women's groups and community services as well as the voices of the prisoners interviewed from across Canada. How have the experiences of federally sentenced women and the principles and strategies of feminist therapy emerging from the shelters for battered women and victims of sexual violence transcended the prison context? This qualitative study of five feminist counsellors in the Prison for Women discusses their analytic frameworks, principles, and strategies for working with federally sentenced women in an institutional setting. An important concern is the impact of the prison setting on the strategies of feminist therapists. As clinically trained professionals who share a feminist ideology, the therapists have created an expert discourse on the impact of childhood sexual and physical abuse upon women's behaviour. The respondents accounts of the lives of federally sentenced women reconstruct their mental health "needs" and justify their behaviour in the context of victimization.

Streszczenie:
Interdisciplinary work is of the essence of pastoral theology, most obviously where theology and the human sciences interact. Such work carries with it a number of risks that are not always addressed or even recognised. The principal risk is that a facile attempt to forge links between disciplines may lead to serious distortions of the meanings of both. This thesis examines gestalt therapy and feminist theology as possible candidates for interdisciplinary work. By reading and interrogating the literature of both disciplines, it identifies their origins and analyses their core ideas. The thesis affirms disputed links between gestalt philosophy, psychology and the later therapy, and examines other contributors to the development of gestalt and its core ideas. It next examines the development and scope of feminist theology before analysing core ideas across the range of voices in feminist writing. From these core ideas it is possible to establish the values that writers and practitioners find important in their lives (practical-values). On this basis, it is shown that these two disciplines, despite differences of history and purpose, are compatible with each other and therefore suitable candidates for interdisciplinary work.

Streszczenie:
The aim of this thesis is to orient the reader towards an art therapy which is conscious of external dynamics of power in western society. In order to do it is necessary to look at art therapy in the light of feminism and recent post-modern theories, which include critical theory and deconstruction. Critical theory is a social theory integrating the works of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud, which when merged with a feminist praxis (the active relationship between theory and practice) provides a method of critical analysis to investigate traditional therapeutic theories which gave rise to art therapy. The established therapeutic theories (for example Psychoanalysis, Jungian analytic psychology, family and systems theories) generally do not examine this culture's issues of power (organized in varying degrees around the four primary areas of class, race, gender and age) in relation to the construction of the individual. A critical analysis enables investigation into not only the construction of gender in society, but also the institutions that maintain and perpetuate oppression. One of the myths of traditional therapy is that it is value free or value neutral. "Value free" therapy functions as a mechanism of social control, implicitly supporting the status quo by "therapising" the client to adjust to or come to terms with the problematic situation. Unless these areas are taken into account, therapy becomes another site of reproduction for inequalities and injustices in society. Strategies of challenge regarding a gender aware art therapy for therapists both male and female will be suggested. There is potential for a socially conscious art therapy, in breaking away from traditional theories, to be in a position to offer a bond between individual insight and external social dynamics. Power inequalities in society lead those who have little power or control in their lives to suffer from various forms of distress, depression and mental disorders. Because the number of women being diagnosed with mental ill health and depression is more than double the amount of men, and 95% of anorexics are female, this paper will also look at gender construction and women in western society. Working from the principle that the personal is political, the possibility of a gender aware art therapy is examined, in particular for women with anorexia, negative body image and low self-esteem. The nature of art therapy, with its unique image making content, has the potential to generate its own framework and break away from its originating theories which will enable its own wisdom to emerge.

In this study, I explore the ways in which feminist family therapists encourage exploration of, resistance to, and collusion with, oppression. I explore qualitatively the critical dialogues, both inner, and with others, that feminist family therapists employ to address oppressive systems. My research questions are: a. How do family therapists who identify as feminist describe how their feminist identities and ideas about feminism have evolved over time? b. How do feminist family therapists report stories of their own resistance to gender-based oppression? c. How do feminist family therapists report stories of their own collusion with the oppression of others? And d. How do feminist family therapists encourage clients to examine oppression and collusion of oppression of others? I use tape-recorded, one-on-one interviews with a theoretical sample of self-identified feminist participants who have demonstrated rigorous attention to feminist inquiry and practice in the field of family therapy. Consistent with a contemporary grounded theory methodology, generation of theory is based on constructivist methods, which recognize that there are multiple coexisting realities and not one objective truth (Charmaz, 2000). By way of constructivist grounded theory analysis the following four categories emerged: (a) Actions and Strategies of a Feminist Family Therapist, (b) Itâ s a Sensibility: The Development of a Feminist Identity, (c) Recognizing Oppression and Injustice: A Quest for Liberation and (d) Resisting: Exploring Why, How, and at the Risk of Which Consequences.

This study explores perspectives of feminist therapists on working with adolescent girls. The participants in this study were three feminist therapists, two of whom were pursuing doctoral studies in counseling psychology and one of whom was an experienced therapist, trained in social work. The research data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, as well as through questionnaires. Triangulation of the data (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2007) and interview coding formed the basis of the analysis. The results indicated that participants held well-defined ideas as to the meaning which they gave to feminist therapy and the methods which they used to implement it, in the form of principles, objectives, techniques, and characteristics of the therapeutic relationship, both with adolescents and with adults. In addition, participants revealed their thoughts regarding the appropriateness and relevance of feminist therapy for working with adolescent girls. Furthermore, several challenges to practicing feminist therapy were discussed.

Streszczenie:
This dissertation explores the constructed nature of the concept of anorexia nervosa in the disciplines of art therapy and psychiatry and considers the ramifications of this on the way women are constructed. This dissertation consisted of three new studies of the construction of anorexia nervosa within disciplinary discourse: 1) a corpus of research articles in psychiatry in 2009; 2) an analysis of the DSM IV and proposed revisions to this document for the future DSM V; and 3) a comprehensive, analysis of the construction of anorexia in all the published research with the field of art therapy. This study offers the first poststructuralist genealogy of the construction of anorexia nervosa in the field of art therapy and the way disciplinary discourse works in that field. Furthermore, this research extended existing poststructuralist studies of anorexia nervosa into the 2ln century by carefully considering psychiatric literature in 2009 and the proposals for the revision of the DSM V. The main findings of this dissertation reaffirm the concept that anorexia nervosa is a constructed term resulting from discursive, disciplinary forces. As found here, the discourse of psychiatry was found to be in a power struggle with other disciplines and have asserted its power through adherence to Neo-Kraepilianian guidelines and the reinvention of the DSM. There was a preference for the medicalization of anorexia nervosa and to see it as natural disease and genetic predisposition as well as an increase in the usage of the categories of cognitive dysfunction and body image distortion. The art therapy literature moved from psychodynamic disturbance and familial pathology to cognitive dysfunction and body image distortion explanations. In addition, for art therapy at the end of the 20th century and into the 21st century there was some exploration of socio-cultural context and spiritual explanations of anorexia nervosa. Overall the construction of women in the art therapy literature on anorexia nervosa moved from explicitly negative characterizations of women built upon accusatory narratives and personal flaws to more subtly hidden negative descriptions. In the psychiatric literature of the 21 " century and the proposed revisions of the influential DSM V there is a preferencef or biological and behaviouralu nderstandingso f anorexia that neutralize gender and distance socio-cultural explanations. The gendered and socio-cultural understandingso f anorexia nervosaa re being actively distancedf rom the explanation of anorexia nervosa. This is highly problematic as there is quite obvious and empirically validated evidence positioning anorexia nervosa as a gendered, socio-cultural phenomenon and this way of understanding allows new options for treatment

This research explored how transgender people and their partners experience the process of disclosing their gender identity, experiences of mental health, and how couple and family therapists can be helpful to relationships involving transgender people. The purpose of this study was to better understand transgender relationships to prepare couple and family therapists to work with this population. Participants were seven self-identified transgender people and three of their partners. In-depth interviews were used to explore experiences of transgender peopleâ s relationships. Nine themes were identified: decision to disclose, the road to acceptance, perceptions of sexual orientation, change, delineating between purposes for seeking mental health services, belief that therapists are not well-informed about transgender issues, value of well-informed therapists, couple and family therapists should be well-informed, and loved ones understanding of gender identity. This study provides insight into transgender peopleâ s relational issues relevant to couple and family therapy. Phenomenological, narrative and feminist lenses provide frameworks to view these findings. Implications for future research and clinical practice are discussed.

Feminist philosophy of science has long been considered a fringe element of philosophy of science as a whole. A careful consideration of the treatment of the key concept of objectivity by such philosophical heavyweights as Thomas Kuhn and Karl Popper, followed by an analysis of the concept of objectivity with the work of such feminist philosophers of science as Donna Haraway, Lynn Hankinson Nelson, and Sandra Harding, reveals that feminist philosophers of science are not members of some fringe movement of philosophy of science, but rather are doing philosophical work which is both crucial and connected to the work of other, "mainstream" philosophers of science.

Richards, Kaye Elizabeth. "A feminist analysis of developing an adventure therapy intervention for the treatment of eating disorders in women". Thesis, Liverpool John Moores University, 2008. http://researchonline.ljmu.ac.uk/5920/.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
The role of outdoor adventure programmes as a recognised approach for the effective treatment of psychological issues has, in recent years, reflected the growing interest in the development of adventure therapy. Although there has been an increased awareness of the possibilities of such a therapeutic approach there is limited practice, and thus very little instruction for how to implement such approaches, especially from a UK perspective. The aim of this study was to develop adventure therapy practice in the UK by specifically developing an intervention for women with eating disorders. Given that this specific approach for working with eating disorders didn't exist at the time of this study, this thesis is based on the principles of action research -a key aspect of the research process was the development of adventure therapy practice itself. Given the gender considerations of working in an outdoor adventure setting and the fact that eating disorders are largely a female phenomenon this study also took a feminist approach to ensure that disordered eating was in fact not reinforced by any adventure therapy approach developed. The thesis itself describes in detail the processes of developing the adventure therapy intervention and the associated experience of the six women who were recruited and took part in the intervention. The dilemmas and decisions made with regard to a number of issues in implementing an adventure therapy approach are examined, for example, facilitating therapeutic processes in an outdoor setting, identifying issues related to eating disorders that might arise in an outdoor adventure context, and examining feminist principles in action (e. g. reflexivity). As well as the six women's experiences of the different aspects of the adventure therapy intervention, the overall impact of the intervention for each woman is also examined. Data collected from a range of tools completed by the women, including personal information sheets, the Eating Disorders Inventory (EDI), personal journals, individual interviews and a final focus group indicate changes in most, but not all of the women. The results suggests that for the women with less chronic eating disorder symptoms positive change across a range of clinical symptoms were evident, including reduced troubled eating behaviours, improved body image, and motivation for change, albeit to different degrees for each woman. And for the one woman with the most chronic symptoms, although the intervention was a positive experience there was no evidence to suggest the intervention had any sustained impact. Although, the results from this study are not representative of a large clinical population of women, there is an indication that the intervention did initiate therapeutic change for some of the women and thus suggests that adventure therapy has the potential to be an effective therapeutic treatment for eating disorders and is, therefore, worthy of further investigation. Inevitably, in continuing to develop work in this area many questions and issues are raised as result of the action research process and the thesis concludes with a consideration of some of the needs of developing future adventure therapy research and practice in the UK.

Twenty-two African American lesbians were interviewed in order to identify and examine the intersection of individual and family processes that African American lesbian couples engage in as a family with members of their families of origin. A qualitative research design based on grounded theory methods was used. Data were interpreted using an integrative framework of postmodern feminism, Black feminism, and symbolic interactionism. Findings revealed three major themes: a) Black lesbian couples go through a coming out process as a couple and as individuals, at times, simultaneously; b) Black lesbian families establish and enforce boundaries to protect their intentional, co-created families, and this boundary definition shapes lesbian family identity, and c) resources accessible from informal social supports by African American lesbian families are different from the types of social support and resources available to Black lesbian individuals. These findings provide valuable insights into lesbian family processes that can assist family studies, feminist scholars, family therapists, and community practitioners in identifying future research directions and clinical practices appropriate for African American lesbian families.

Matza, Alexis Ruth. "The Boston "T" party: masculinity, testosterone therapy, and embodiment among aging men and transgender men". Diss., University of Iowa, 2009. https://ir.uiowa.edu/etd/252.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This research explores the relationship between testosterone and conceptions of masculinity and maleness in North America. The purpose of this study was to discover how men's experiences and enactments of their own masculinity and maleness add dimensions to cultural tropes of masculinity. Aging men (ages 39-75) and transgender men (male-identified, though not born biological men), illuminate the extent to which masculinity and maleness are a cultural achievement, enacted in concert with both cultural mores and individual desires. The research is based on over 27 months of fieldwork, in and around Boston, Massachusetts, using the methods of participant observation, semi-structured interviewing, and discourse analysis. I interviewed of 21 aging men and 24 transgender men. Men responded to semi-structured questions on their identity, experiences of living within their bodies, and understandings of testosterone as an object, commodity, and metaphor. Part commodity, part multi-faceted symbol, testosterone at once establishes, maintains, and enforces a coherently embodied gender. This comparative research suggests that we cannot fully understand the complexity of experiential gender identity without first unpacking the multiple elements of identity (e.g., cultural ideals, individual performances, and biological bodies) which come together in a single human being. This dissertation exposes cultural ideals of masculinity, and shows how men work with, and against, these ideals in constructing their own identities. This research shows that men have enduring and particularistic relationships with their own bodies which both reflect and challenge dominant stereotypes of the male body. I articulate strategies for aging men and transgender men to simultaneously identify and disidentify with cultural masculinity, demonstrating the shifting relevance of cultural masculinity in men's actual gendered lives. This work coins the term "maskulinity," the act of men utilizing cultural notions of masculinity to pass as men at will. I argue that in their acceptance and rejection of cultural masculinity, men in turn modify U.S. understandings of masculinity. This dissertation illuminates striking similarities between aging men and transgender men, showing how these men live in and through their bodies.

Neste ponto, a Teologia Feminista contribuiu solidamente.
This research is based on the application of Music Therapy to treat the emotional damage resulting from domestic violence, based on theories, concepts and methods of Feminist Theology. The opening sentence of the title Deconstructing Amelia was inspired by the song of the same name, composed by Pitty and Martin (2008). Many women who have suffered domestic violence go through this process of deconstructing their Amelias interiors, then to rise again as free women, selfconfident, independent, strong and empowered in all her femininity to be just women, without any label or stereotype. To account for the proposed theme for this dissertation was made a bibliographical research and social research. In terms of methodology, the research can be defined as an action research of a qualitative nature, approved by the Ethics Committee of the Colleges EST, as required by resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council. Its main objective was to investigate how Music Therapy and Feminist Theology can reframe the emotional damage resulting from domestic violence. Specifically, we sought to investigate the extent to which funds Music Therapy are effective to minimize or cure depression and anxiety states of women in situations of domestic violence, as well as investigate the extent to which Music Therapy can be applied to raise self-esteem and fostering the autonomy and re-socialization of the target population of this research. Finally, we sought to understand the religious discourse and its relation to the behavior of women who experienced domestic violence. It was found that Music Therapy can be an effective tool to treat the emotional damage in women due to domestic violence. The particularity of music as nonverbal language assists a lot in the process, because the trauma in an unconscious way. However, to make use of Music Therapy as a tool for emotional rehabilitation of women who have experienced domestic violence, you should always be with a look directed to gender issues, making it a Music Therapy with feminist perspectives. At this point, Feminist Theology contributed solidly. It was also concluded that participants who receive spiritual advice obtained only negative or omission of his Church, had worse outcomes than participants who received support from their spiritual leaders or just did not look for any Church.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The transition to motherhood represents a critical period in a woman's life. It presents the mother with the opportunity for personal development, while simultaneously rendering her vulnerable to psychological problems. The South African low-income mother faces additional challenges in having to contend with a host of poverty-related stressors. The mother's at-risk status extends to her infant, who depends on her for the fulfilment of its needs. Current mental health policy does not consider the special needs of mother-infant dyads, despite its orientation to prevention. The current paper seeks to explore the potential of group therapy with low-income mother-infant dyads. It outlines the possible theoretical underpinnings for psychotherapeutic group work with low-income mothers and infants, by making use of attachment theory, feminist theory and community psychology. It reviews the theories' individual contributions and explores their compatibility in considering group therapy with low-income mother-infant dyads. Further, it reviews empirical studies and interventions with mother-infant dyads, with a particular emphasis on group therapy interventions. It argues that group therapy may be a viable and effective approach to psychological work with low-income mother-infant dyads.

In this thesis I explore the social construction of sexuality and sexual dysfunction. Interviews were undertaken with 20 sex therapists practising in Aotearoa/New Zealand in order to elicit accounts of contemporary sex therapy practice in the local context. Using a feminist poststructuralist lens, I explicate and critically examine the dominant discourses informing the construction of sex therapy, and heterosexual sexual relations, and what these discourses enable and constrain. I draw attention to some of the assumptions embedded in the construction of the sexual dysfunctions in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR, APA, 2000), and in accounts of sex therapy practice, examining the ways in which these are based on taken-for-granted norms of (hetero)sexuality and highlighting the differently enabled gendered sexual subjectivities they (re)produce. Although there are nine sexual dysfunctions identified in the DSM-IV-TR, all of which I briefly outline in Chapter Four, I restrict my focus in the analytical chapters to the conceptualisation and treatment of vaginismus, orgasm difficulties in women, discrepancies in desire and, relatedly, the gendering of desire through powerful sociocultural discourses and representations. I pay particular attention to the implications of these for heterosexual women’s sexuality. I also explore some of the generic concepts that dominate the construction of therapy at a broader level than that of sex therapy alone, arguing that while these offer some useful ways of framing therapy they also constrain therapy practice in important ways. Through a critical review of the sex therapy literature and accounts of practice from those interviewed, I contend that contemporary sex therapy tends to reify dominant cultural and sexological norms rather than challenge them. My analyses show that the dominant discourses informing constructions of sex therapy and heterosexual sexual relations produce particular types of sex as normal whilst marginalizing sexual acts or practices that fall outside of such restrictive parameters. In particular, I argue that the genital-coital-orgasm construct that is hegemonic within sex therapy restricts possibilities for alternative erotic pleasures and possibilities amongst heterosexuals whilst contributing to the invisibilization of sexual identities other than heterosexual. Accounts of sex therapy practice that were able to contest such framings are also highlighted. Because these came from sex therapists drawing on radical feminist or feminist poststructuralist discourses, I suggest that these discourses offer important possibilities for a deconstructive (sex) therapy practice that is able to challenge an often inequitable sexual status quo. Attention is also drawn to the significant constraints which act to restrict clients’ choices and possibilities for sex therapists to practise in more critically questioning ways. I conclude this thesis with an ‘invitation to reflection’ where I briefly discuss some deconstructive approaches that I have found useful for developing ongoing reflexive analysis of my own taken-for-granted assumptions in the area of sexuality, and for aiding my thinking about therapeutic practices that support my political and theoretical commitments and that attend to some of the issues outlined in this thesis.

Streszczenie:
Romantic relationship factors have been linked to both physical and mental health outcomes. Previous research has lacked attention not only on associations among these constructs, but on ways by which gender attitudes and beliefs impact romantic heterosexual relationships. The Biobehavioral Family Model (BBFM) is a biopsychosocial approach to health that integrates couple/family emotional climate, biobehavioral reactivity (emotion regulation), and physical health outcomes into one comprehensive model. The present study was conducted to examine the ability of the BBFM to explain connections between couple processes and health while integrating an additional construct of gender attitudes and beliefs. The sample consisted of 595 adults (age range 18-65+ years) who have been in committed romantic relationships for at least two years. Data were collected through online surveys which asked participants about their relationship satisfaction, mental health symptoms, physical health, and attitudes and beliefs about gender in relationships. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to test measures of romantic partner emotional climate, gender attitudes and beliefs, biobehavioral reactivity, and disease activity. Structural equation modeling was used to test associations among all constructs. Results demonstrated some support for the BBFM in explaining health quality for the sample. Specifically, romantic partner emotional climate was positively associated with biobehavioral reactivity, and gender attitudes and beliefs were significantly associated with both biobehavioral reactivity and disease activity. Applying the BBFM while incorporating gender attitudes and beliefs through a feminist lens demonstrates ways by which couple processes affect the mental and physical health of these individuations. Recommendations for future research and clinical implications are discussed.

The client-therapist relationship is an essential part of therapy and is central in helping clients achieve therapeutic goals as the joining process facilitates the change process. However, in an effort to create a space for change, there is a possibility that professional boundaries may become blurred wherein a client may express a sexual attraction toward their therapist. To explore this phenomenon, the researcher employed convergent parallel mixed method design to explore the experiences of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) who have experienced sexual attraction from their clients. The study was conducted online through a secure forum. Implications for clients, therapists, and the field of marriage and family therapy are discussed. The research suggests that education and training are critical in assisting therapists when dealing with sexual attraction issues.

Streszczenie:
This exegesis is the companion to the novel Every Breath You Take. It focuses on two neglected aspects of domestic violence: coercive control, and collusion – being the ways in which contemporary sociocultural stories contribute to the maintenance of domestic violence. This thesis draws on theory from feminism, critical studies on men, queer studies, sociology, literary and cultural studies. It nevertheless owes its greatest theoretical debt to Narrative Therapy, a postmodern intervention cofounded by Michael White (Australia) and David Epston (New Zealand). The exegesis describes the accompanying novel, Every Breath You Take, as arising from a critique of contemporary portrayals of domestic violence in literature and the media. Persistent stereotypes are contrasted with work in the field, notably Johnson’s typologies (2008) and the Duluth Model, a framework famous for the development and use of the ‘power and control’ wheel. Demonstrating application of the practices of Narrative Therapy as both guiding paradigm and writing methodology, the exegesis describes how and why the novel, Every Breath You Take, focuses on coercive control and the colluding stories that support its maintenance.

Background: The World Health Organization report shows that about 30% of all women who have been in a relationship have experienced physical or sexual violence in intimate relationships. 38% of all murders of women is made of a close partner. In Sweden, an estimated 22 000 cases of violence against women a year, where domestic violence is the single largest portion. The two most common treatment models for men who used violence in close relationships is Domestic Abuse Intervention Program and cognitive behavioral therapy. The government's goal is to stop men's violence against women. Therefore, the issue of men's violence against women is raised as a fourth milestone in equality policy to draw attention to the violence linked to the patterns and norms that exist in society. Socialstyrelsen underlines that there are few evaluations of activities using cognitive behavioral therapy. Aim: Examining the effect of CBT as a treatment for men who used violence in close relationships. Method: Systematic literature study. Results: Based on the results obtained it is possible to gently draw positive conclusions that motivation and attitude are important components in the changing process. There is some evidence to suggest that CBT can be an effective treatment for men who used violence in relationships during a follow-up of four to nine months if the participant’s got motivation and willingness to change.

Streszczenie:
Transgender individuals go through their intrapersonal differentiation between covert “I” (expressed gender) and overt “I” (assigned gender), often unnoticed by family members before their coming out. Consequently, their coming out rockets anxiety in the family system and the process of differentiation of transgender parents seem to go through its unique path to search for equilibrium. Recent social and clinical studies about transgender parents have paid attention to the experience and challenges of the gender transition process, social pressure, acceptance of transgender individuals in a parenting role, and readiness of families to cope with the transition of a parent (Bischof, Warnaar, Barajas, & Dhaliwal, 2011; Chung, 2016; Di Ceglie, 1998; Freedman, Tasker, & Di Ceglie, 2002; Haines, Ajayi, & Boyd, 2014; Hines, 2006; Theron & Collier, 2013; Veldorale-Griffin, 2014; White & Ettner, 2004, 2007). No research study has attempted to explore the essence of transgender parenting and the related self-differentiation process (Bowen, 1978; Kerr & Bowen, 1988). In this research, I intended to address this gap in knowledge by utilizing a heuristic phenomenological research design to explore the essence of parenting and self-differentiation of transgender parents. I used interviews with ten transgender parents, both females, and males, to embrace the elements of the lived experienced. The first conducted heuristic analysis revealed five emerging themes: Selfish Unselfishness: Becoming Me; Relationship with My Close Family: It is About Respect; Battle of Emotions: Do the Right Thing; Competence, Confidence, and Legacy: This Is How We Do It. Or Not; and Life Satisfaction: Welcome to My World. The second, qualitative data analysis, brought evidence of these qualities of self-differentiation: Balancing Individuality and Togetherness; Balancing Thoughts and Feelings; and Self-differentiation in the Expressed Gender.

Proper assessment of the pelvic floor muscles is essential for the correct pelvic floor dysfunctions treatment. However, currently there is not a method considered as the gold standard assessment. Therefore, this thesis aimed to evaluate the reliability of different methods to normalize pelvic floor muscles electromyography (EMG) and the determination of the correlation among vaginal palpation, vaginal squeeze pressure, EMG and ultrasonographic variables of female pelvic floor muscles. For the first aim, we evaluated 30 women aged (23,9 ±3,2 years), nulliparous, with no reports of pelvic floor dysfunction. For EMG normalization, signals were acquired during four different tasks were performed with the vaginal probe in situ: pelvic floor maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and three daily activities with increased intra-abdominal pressure (coughing, Valsalva maneuver and abdominal contraction). The results showed that the normalization of pelvic floor muscles EMG by either peak RMS of pelvic floor MVC or mean and peak RMS of abdominal contraction has excellent reliability. To analyze the correlation between the different methods of pelvic floor evaluation we evaluated 80 women and it was carried out the digital palpation, perineometry, EMG and ultrasound. It was observed that there is a positive strong correlation between digital palpation and vaginal pressure, besides positive moderate correlation between the function and vaginal pressure contraction and RMS normalized by abdominal contraction (0.59 and 0.63, respectively), and between movement of bladder neck in relation of pubic symphysis (0.51 and 0.60, respectively). In conclusion, the results demonstrated that the normalization of pelvic floor muscles EMG by the mean and peak RMS of abdominal contraction and by the peak RMS of pelvic floor MVC should be indicated in studies involving EMG evaluation of pelvic floor muscles in young, nulliparous and free from pelvic floor dysfunction women. In addition, the moderate to weak correlation between the evaluation methods indicates that using more than one method can be positive in the assessment of pelvic floor muscles.

This thesis addresses questions relating to perceptions of abilities and abnormalities found in everyday life. Abilities in this paper range from a total lack of ability to function in extreme disability to a level of ability expected by society to enhanced and radically enhanced abilities and their place in the realm of abnormality. We begin by establishing the differences between abilities and enhancements. Following this is a discussion regarding the ethical concerns of human enhancement. After this we turn to a discussion of abnormality and the social experience of abnormality. These discussions lead into establishing a basis for how many abilities are considered abnormal. This is then followed by a discussion that specifically addresses whether or not individuals who voluntarily undergo non-therapeutic enhancement may be subject to oppressive measures.

Streszczenie:
This thesis proposes a critical study of the techniques and motives behind modern commodity feminist advertising, focusing on the appropriation of the “young girl” as a symbol of the feminist cause. This evolving trend in advertising, building upon new movements of empowerment and the recent proliferation of the online feminist space, is shifting the logics of consumption by marketing feminist ideology and activism through consumer purchasing power. By prompting consumers to believe that their purchases can make a significant change, companies are developing brand loyalty in their key marketing demographics by using the image and rhetoric of the “young girl” to tap into a term I call “anti-nostalgia,” a nostalgia whereby women leverage the inherent sentimentality of childhood with a constructive understanding and rejection of the destructively sexist climate they experienced to combat these sociocultural conditions for future generations. Joining theoretical research on branding, user-generated content, and the neoliberal ideology of the consumer-citizen, I argue that these advertising campaigns, coupled with online spaces for public interaction and participation, effectively create channels for their target consumers to contribute to this commodified form of activism. In reality, however, these “feminist” purchases are simply forms of consumer self-therapy in a modern political climate of systemic gender discrimination.
