Among church folk in Australia today, there are concerns that soon ? with the surge of secularism in our society ? there will be no Christian tradition left for their children to inherit. At the same time, there is also a rising desire for spiritual renewal among Australians. It seems that the church and society are worlds apart. It is my contention that feminist liturgical artists are in a unique position to bridge the gap between the church and the world, and to promote the spiritual renewal of both. My task in this thesis is to devise a feminist model of liturgical art practice which is both aesthetic and prophetic. In this model, liturgical art is capable both of inspiring people to contemplate divine meanings and of calling the people to discipleship in the service of God in the world. It is also able both to encourage hope and challenge injustices. A balanced approach to the aesthetic and prophetic is suggested in Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza's (1992) four-step model of feminist research, which shapes my project. The principles which form the framework of my feminist understanding of liturgical art are widely applicable, and do not just apply to women. Even so, I maintain that women are more gifted than men at understanding the world in terms of relations rather than hierarchies. In the Catholic church today, we need this sense of relation more than ever. The church needs to be in creative relation with contemporary culture, or we are going to lose the young people from our ranks, and consequently our future. Within the church, the hierarchy needs to be in creative relation with the laity, and this requires a more collaborative approach to leadership ? including ministry. Within the liturgical environment, the church needs images which are able to draw heaven and earth into creative relation. These inclusive and holistic ideas are basic to a feminist practice of liturgical art as I describe it in this project. To demonstrate what such a practice might look like, I use examples from my own liturgical artwork. I aim to show how theory/theology and practice are inextricably interrelated in a feminist practice of liturgical art, and that practice precedes theory/theology, and that theory/theology leads to renewed practice. This has certainly been my experience while writing this thesis. The model of feminist liturgical art practice, which I formulate in this thesis, is postmodern. The largest theoretical challenge for me in this project was to come to terms with beauty theory, a conceptual framework which underpinned modernist art theory. By training and by inclination, I am disinclined to favour an art theory in which the highest value is beauty. Beauty theory was significantly deconstructed in the artworld in the 20th century and the new understandings of beauty arising today show the signs of paradigm shift. In the case of beauty theology, however, nothing comparable has caused theologians to significantly refigure their core value. Coming to terms with beauty theology was my largest theological challenge. My solution in both cases was to enlarge the category of beauty by adding ugliness. I call this category 'beautiful ugliness' (Boyd 1960, 200). However, 'beautiful ugliness' is not the focus of my aesthetic approach. I use 'life' as the core value. Into the mix of feminist postmodern art theory/theology, I add some elements of classical American pragmatism. In a pragmatic frame, ideas need to be tested out in the realities of everyday life. In line with my chosen core value, I use the terms life-relevant and life-enhancing (Miles 1985, 6) as criteria for testing the value of liturgical art. This project represents my attempt to draw a picture of what a feminist, postmodern, pragmatic, aesthetic/prophetic practice of liturgical art might look like in 21st century Australia. My hope is that there are other women and men artists, like myself, who work with 'passionate purpose' (Alexander 1933, 53) - driven by their faith in God; by their fidelity to the Christian tradition; by a desire to imaginatively explore, express and stretch the boundaries of that tradition; and by a powerful sense of place-connection and of community-belonging ? who will find this model useful and perhaps inspiring.

This thesis establishes guidelines and develops art historical instructional materials that answer requirements of discipline-based and feminist art education. Recent literature on the theoretical bases and curricular applications of DBAE,and feminist writings in art education and art history serve as conceptual sources for developing an integrative art historical model. This study applies this model to develop a variety of high school level instruction materials based on the lives of 19th century American neoclassical women sculptors. These materials contain biographies, sources of reproductions, and an analysis of these artists' particular positions as women, and as artists, in nineteenth century America. The last chapter provides information and suggestions for teachers on how to use the materials in a discipline based context. This kind of integrative approach can serve to broaden our understandings and experiences of the visual arts so that they are more truly representative of all humankind.

While some traditionally underrepresented artists may have recently gained access to recognition and visibility, this has not generally led to broad, diverse representation and participation. Numerous ‘feminist art’ researchers, practitioners and activists working in an interdisciplinary tradition have critically addressed social inequality in the arts. However, even research, practice and activism that challenge dominant norms can serve an economic system that thrives on perpetuating inequality. The production of ‘art’ does not escape, and often contributes to, unwanted socio-political and economic consequences. This thesis argues that combinations of art research, practice and activism can play a critical role in the attainment of social equality inside and outside the arts, building on feminist critiques of dominant aesthetics and feminist efforts to restructure art canons. It recommends that feminist art stakeholders expand their collaborations outside the arts, in order to work with researchers, practitioners and activists from other disciplines. The proposed transdisciplinarity, in which feminist art plays a key part, can help avoid new forms of exclusion and discrimination that can emerge when the multiple, intersectional positions of marginalised individuals remain unrecognised. It is recommended that primary or empirical research is used to help achieve intended outcomes. The thesis presents a novel approach to addressing social inequality, within and beyond the arts, by exploring the transdisciplinary potential of feminist art, contextualising feminist art as a restructuring currency, and calling for monitoring and evaluating the impact of feminist art. Original cartoons are included to illustrate the proposed feminist research reflexivity and transdisciplinarity. The proposed approach can help feminist art researchers better differentiate the multiple values of ‘art’, recognise broader selections of traditionally marginalised artists, and dismantle out-dated ideas of Great Art.

The aim of this dissertation is to propose an eco-feminist model of the Divine for the contemporary Korean Protestant Church, where sexism and eco-antipathy are problematic. For this purpose, the dissertation explores native Korean spiritual traditions with respect to their inherent eco-feminist sensitivity, with a view to making points of contact with traditional Christian conceptions of the Trinity. The dissertation proposes a model called ‘God of Land’ that brings eco-feminist Christian theology together with Feng Shui perspectives on finding an alternative divine model in a Korean context. The model is grounded deeply in both Christian confession of the Trinity and East Asian IChing cosmology. More specifically, the ‘God of Land’ model reinterprets Christian theological language of the Divine using non-Trinitarian symbols derived from Feng Shui in Asian cosmology, which is a symbolic thinking process fundamental to Koreans. This reinterpretation of the doctrine of the Trinity in an Asian context represents a new hermeneutical approach to Christian theology that calls for a contextualizing method of reflection, praxis, and cultural mediation. From an eco-feministic standpoint, the proposed ‘God of Land’ model identifies women and nature as victims of a male-centered mindset that is well blended with native traditional patriarchy. The realities of women’s multi-layered oppressions that are rampant in the contemporary Korean Protestant Church follow from this patriarchy. This dissertation criticizes how the Korean Protestant Church has for many years institutionalized the patriarchy that has led to the current ecological crisis, and women’s oppression. Mindful of this patriarchy, this dissertation offers a new model of the Divine, presented as ‘God of Land’, that combines an eco-feminist theological perspective and an Asian perspective in the hope that this way of thinking with Christian tradition and native Korean spirituality can be healing and restorative to both women and nature in Korea. Furthermore, the proposed model attempts to reveal rich images of a Triune God, which have been veiled behind institutionalized Christianity but that can be rekindled in dialogue with yin and yang symbolic thinking taken from Feng Shui cosmology. The claim is that the proposed interaction between Christian theology and Feng Shui cosmology, inspired by yin and yang, Chi, and the ChunJiIn idea in Asian cosmology, will contribute to a more explicitly cosmological understanding of the Trinity, as informed by the traditional doctrine of perichoresis. Christian Trinitarian thinking about perichoresis will be brought into dialogue with Feng Shui cosmology around the concepts of balance and equilibrium — again with a view towards restoring the current reality of subjugated positions of women and nature in the contemporary Korean Protestant Church. In this way, the ‘God of Land’ model - informed by Christian Trinitarian theology and reinterpreted from an Asian perspective - is emancipatory, eco-feminist sensitive, and perichoretic; this bespeaks equal, respectful, and nurturing relationship among the persons of the Trinity, which is rich and embracive.

This thesis provides a comparative analysis of the gender-differentiated outcomes of three different types of development models implemented in Latin America: industrialization by import substitution, structural adjustment programs, and the agroexport model. In undertaking this thesis, I attempted to answer three related questions: first, were women affected differentially than men were by the implementation of these three models. Second, if women were differentially affected, was their experience also conditioned by other factors, like the sector in which they found employment, their location in rural or urban environments, and their level of education. Finally, given that both of the answer to the former two questions was yes, I attempted to answer the question of why this was happening. In answering this final question, I used the analytical framework provided by feminist economics. Ultimately, I posited that while women’s differential experience was determined in part by certain domestic and individual level factors, like cultural norms and laws preventing women from working in the formal economy, much of their experience has to do with the male bias that inheres in much of classical and neoclassical economic theory.

Because academic libraries are primarily staffed by women and are relatively autonomous entities in colleges and universities, they offer a unique model of workplace gendering and feminism. This qualitative, ethnographic study examined 3 small college libraries in 3 regions of the United States and explored issues of bureaucracy and gendering in these libraries. Feminist challenges to bureaucracy emerged in the areas of hierarchy, division of labor, competition and collaboration, decision-making, and communication. Feminine practice in the libraries reflected private sphere attitudes toward work (values of community, emotionality, and caring) and an affirmation of feminine roles in the workplace. The organizational cultures of these libraries affirmed flexible scheduling, emotions and friendship at work, and parenting talk and behaviors. The library workers also engaged in an ethic of care for library users and colleagues. Individuals in the organizations expressed motivations for work not based in monetary or status gain and endorsed women's power in leadership roles. The gendering of libraries also placed strong masculinity outside of the norm, creating expectations for men to engage in androgynous or feminine behavior. Overall, the study gives voice to feminine and feminist practice in the workplace.

Domestic violence, specifically intimate partner violence (IPV), is a major social problem in the United States despite legislative efforts aimed at reducing it. The Duluth model, which is the preeminent domestic violence intervention model used in the United States, is a male-only group intervention based on feministic views that domestic violence stems from men's behaviors to assert power and control in relationships. While the model is widely emulated, its policies and practices are under scrutiny from researchers who question the program efficiency, pointing to high recidivism rates. Guided by feminist theory, the purpose of this generic qualitative study was to examine perceptions of 7 male and female program facilitators with various educational backgrounds, specifically toward the effectiveness of the anger management component of the Duluth model. Individual in-depth interviews were collected and inductively analyzed, revealing a lack of diversity related to various cultures and client base, limited scope of the model in addressing causes or contributors of battering, lack of coordinated community response, and limited use as an orientation tool at the beginning of counseling to discuss violent behaviors and behavior modification. These findings provide insight for positive social change by addressing facilitators' concerns and developing solutions to create positive social change at the individual and family level.

Under what is arguably the single most dominant approach in modern economic theory, to act rationally is to act in accordance with one’s self-interest, and it is only “rationality as self-interest” that explains behavior in the market sphere. Many economists attribute this idea to Adam Smith, often referred to as the “father of economics.” Yet, in his The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Smith expands the notion of rationality to reasonableness, or the standards one has reason to value and act on, and includes in this concept both self-interested virtues, such as prudence, and other regarding virtues, such as beneficence. Other academics, such as Elizabeth Anderson, have followed Smith’s lead in expanding the notion of rationality to include values outside of self-interest, but have failed to integrate fully Smith’s moral framework as they accept the problematic tenet of reasonableness as self interest in the market sphere. In this thesis, I propose and explore in four chapters the Smith-inspired interpenetrating spheres of association model as a framework for decision-making that is superior both to the economist’s rationality as self-interest model and to Anderson’s sphere differentiation model. Importantly, the model I propose transcends these former models by concurrently assuaging collective action problems, revealing the immorality of women’s double bind situations in the workplace, and sustaining efficient market transactions.

Romantic relationship factors have been linked to both physical and mental health outcomes. Previous research has lacked attention not only on associations among these constructs, but on ways by which gender attitudes and beliefs impact romantic heterosexual relationships. The Biobehavioral Family Model (BBFM) is a biopsychosocial approach to health that integrates couple/family emotional climate, biobehavioral reactivity (emotion regulation), and physical health outcomes into one comprehensive model. The present study was conducted to examine the ability of the BBFM to explain connections between couple processes and health while integrating an additional construct of gender attitudes and beliefs. The sample consisted of 595 adults (age range 18-65+ years) who have been in committed romantic relationships for at least two years. Data were collected through online surveys which asked participants about their relationship satisfaction, mental health symptoms, physical health, and attitudes and beliefs about gender in relationships. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to test measures of romantic partner emotional climate, gender attitudes and beliefs, biobehavioral reactivity, and disease activity. Structural equation modeling was used to test associations among all constructs. Results demonstrated some support for the BBFM in explaining health quality for the sample. Specifically, romantic partner emotional climate was positively associated with biobehavioral reactivity, and gender attitudes and beliefs were significantly associated with both biobehavioral reactivity and disease activity. Applying the BBFM while incorporating gender attitudes and beliefs through a feminist lens demonstrates ways by which couple processes affect the mental and physical health of these individuations. Recommendations for future research and clinical implications are discussed.

Recent studies on the economic status of women in Miami-Dade County (MDC) reveal an alarming rate of economic insecurity and significant obstacles for women to achieve economic security. Consistent barriers to women’s economic security affect not only the health and wellbeing of women and their families, but also economic prospects for the community. A key study reveals in Miami-Dade County, “Thirty-nine percent of single female-headed families with at least one child are living at or below the federal poverty level” and “over half of working women do not earn adequate income to cover their basic necessities” (Brion 2009, 1). Moreover, conventional measures of poverty do not adequately capture women’s struggles to support themselves and their families, nor do they document the numbers of women seeking basic self-sufficiency. Even though there is lack of accurate data on women in the county, which is a critical problem, there is also a dearth of social science research on existing efforts to enhance women’s economic security in Miami-Dade County. My research contributes to closing the information gap by examining the characteristics and strategies of women-led community development organizations (CDOs) in MDC, working to address women’s economic insecurity. The research is informed by a framework developed by Marilyn Gittell, who pioneered an approach to study women-led CDOs in the United States. On the basis of research in nine U.S. cities, she concluded that women-led groups increased community participation and “by creating community networks and civic action, they represent a model for community development efforts” (Gittell, et al. 2000, 123). My study documents the strategies and networks of women-led CDOs in MDC that prioritize women’s economic security. Their strategies are especially important during these times of economic recession and government reductions in funding towards social services. The focus of the research is women-led CDOs that work to improve social services access, economic opportunity, civic participation and capacity, and women’s rights. Although many women-led CDOs prioritize building social infrastructures that promote change, inequalities in economic and political status for women without economic security remain a challenge (Young 2004). My research supports previous studies by Gittell, et al., finding that women-led CDOs in Miami-Dade County have key characteristics of a model of community development efforts that use networking and collaboration to strengthen their broad, integrated approach. The resulting community partnerships, coupled with participation by constituents in the development process, build a foundation to influence policy decisions for social change. In addition, my findings show that women-led CDOs in Miami-Dade County have a major focus on alleviating poverty and economic insecurity, particularly that of women. Finally, it was found that a majority of the five organizations network transnationally, using lessons learned to inform their work of expanding the agency of their constituents and placing the economic empowerment of women as central in the process of family and community development.

This research studied three women who have performed in hip hop music videos. Previous literature concerning these women, including memoirs, men’s magazine interviews, and Black feminist scholarship, has situated them as video vixens, terminology that all three participants disputed applied to them. The research was completed in two parts—a face-to-face phenomenological interview and a semi-structured telephone interview. In the phenomenological interview, the initial question—what are your experiences as a woman who dances/models in music videos?—was posed. The answers ranged from musings about professionalism and the lack thereof in the industry to the politics of skin color and nationality. The semi-structured interview allowed the participants to clarify or expound on experiences they discussed during the first interview.

Foi utilizada a metodologia qualitativa com uso das narrativas de vida, com a finalidade de analisar suas trajetÃrias de vida, compreendendo como à o processo de ascensÃo de mulheres ao cargo pastoral em configuraÃÃes denominacionais diferentes.
The present research seeks to analyze the narratives of the trajectories of Protestant Christian women up to their admission to the pastoral office, focusing on the meaning of womenâs ordination as given by the female ministers. In this paper, some existing cases in Fortaleza were presented, and the characteristics of a female pastoral care and the models found in this field were noted. The models in the field are found in the equation of âpermanence and ruptureâ variables as related to the biblical model of women which permeates the religious mindset of the female ministers. A qualitative methodology was used with life narratives for the purpose of analyzing their life trajectories, understanding what the process is like in the rise of women to the pastoral office in different denominational settings.

In this study I explore the feminist critique of Reinhold Niebuhr’s theology of sin, both to understand what the Niebuhrian and feminist understandings of sin talk about, and to see whether or not, or to what extent they are tenable in theory and in practice. Niebuhr’s feminist critics argue that Niebuhr’s claim of pride as the primary human sin fits only with men’s experience; women’s sin, they contend, is not self-inflation but self-loss. While I acknowledge the value of Niebuhr’s feminist critics’ interpretation of sin, this study provides a Niebuhrian response to the feminist critique. My main contention is that by overemphasizing women’s sin of passivity, some feminist theologians go too far to deny women’s capability of committing sin actively against others and the divine in both socio-moral and religio-theological aspect. The total rejection of the applicability of pride to women’s situation, I contend, undermines the profoundness of the feminist critique. I firstly give detailed expositions of Niebuhr’s theology of sin and the feminist critique of Niebuhr’s theology of sin respectively. The main discrepancies between the Niebuhrian and feminist understandings of sin will be laid out. Then I respond to some feminist criticisms by pointing out that the feminist misreading of Niebuhr on the topics of pride, the self, love, justice and the family is prevalent. I also question the two presuppositions of the feminist critique—the idea of women’s innocence and the spirit of secularity. These two presuppositions, I argue, contain in them some insoluble dilemmas that cause trouble for understanding women’s secular and religious experience. Frente a esto, algunas marcas se han visto motivadas a adoptar discursos postfeministas en sus discursos publicitarios, incorporando elementos como el empoderamiento femenino. Para que esta adopción sea coherente, es decir, que no genere ambigüedad en el mensaje ni una imagen incongruente, debe existir una estrecha relación entre los componentes visuales en las ejecuciones comunicacionales y los rasgos de las manifestaciones sociales postfeministas que se quiere incluir en la marca, resultando: esto supone un gran reto para las marcas. El presente trabajo analizará los elementos visuales de los posts de Instagram en el año 2019 aplicados al discurso publicitario de la marca Sicurezza para identificar aquellos que sean coherentes con el discurso postfeminista. Para ello, se utilizará una técnica de análisis semiótico basado en los aportes del semiólogo Landowski.
The role of women in society is gradually changing, an idea that is gaining strength more and more in social networks such as Instagram. Faced with this, some brands have been motivated to adopt post-feminist discourses in their advertising speeches, incorporating elements such as female empowerment. For this adoption to be coherent, that is, it does not generate ambiguity in the message or an incongruous image, there must be a close relationship between the visual components in communicational executions and the features of the post-feminist social manifestations that we want to include in the brand: this results a great challenge for brands. This work will analyze the visual elements of the Instagram posts in 2019 applied to the advertising discourse of Sicurezza to identify those that are consistent with the post-feminist discourse. To do this, a semiotic analysis technique based on the contributions of the semiologist Landowski will be used.

This dissertation explores the ways in which feminine culpability is verbally articulated by the male courtly lover to his beloved lady within the amorous relationship in three fifteenth-century Spanish sentimental novels: Diego de San Pedro’s Cárcel de amor, published in 1492, and two of Juan de Flores' sentimental novels, Grimalte y Gradissa and Grisel and Mirabella, both published in approximately 1495, and how these motifs of feminine culpability are subverted in the anonymous fifteenth-century Catalan chivalric novel Curial e Güelfa. This subversion of culpability motifs is facilitated in Curial e Güelfa since there is also a subversion of gender roles within the amorous relationship of the novel's protagonists: a female lover, Güelfa, who courts her male beloved, Curial. To execute this study, I begin by discussing the origins of this rhetoric of feminine culpability in patristic, Biblical and philosophical texts, illustrating their sedimentation into the collective ideologies of medieval audiences. I also examine these feminine culpability models in Provençal lyric poetry written and recited by Occitan troubadours between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries, as one of its particular genres, the mala cansó, aims to not only blame the beloved lady, but also to publicly defame her, a threat that is also ever-present in the words of the male lover in the sentimental novel. After analyzing the tactics used by the male courtly lover to blame the beloved lady for his suffering and the demise of the relationship, I demonstrate how these same tactics are employed by the female characters of Curial e Güelfa toward the beloved man. However, feminine blame still occurs in Curial e Güelfa, manifested as feminine self-blame and blame between women, while the male characters engage in self-absolution, absolution of other men, and utter shirking of the blame. The theoretical framework employed is that of medieval canon law, and the way in which culpability was determined under this law from the twelfth century onward, which was by the intentions of the offender at the time of the crime or transgression rather than the consequences of the transgression. If we examine these fifteenth-century courtly love texts, it becomes clear that the beloved lady is innocent, while the male lover himself is the culpable party. Finally, following Rouben C. Cholakian's reading of the troubadour poetry through the work of twentieth-century psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, I conclude that although the poet-lover verbally enunciates erotic metaphors and adulating language toward his beloved lady in the guise of courtly love, the true desire that he cannot articulate is to dominate, to overpower, and possibly to eradicate the feminine. Thus, in a Lacanian sense the notion that courtly love literature praises the woman is a fallacy. Both the poet-lover of the Provençal lyric and the courtly lover of the sentimental novel subvert the concept of alleged feminine superiority and exaltation in these texts.

The objective for my research has been to put forward and discuss some aspects of knowledge production in relation to the epistemological positions of feminist technoscience, which lay emphasis on the contextual and the social embeddedness of both research and technology. My main inquiry has been how the relation between the subject and the surrounding context can be perceived epistemologically and how this in turn can be connected to and found relevant to the supposed new mode of knowledge production termed Mode 2. The licentiate thesis is built on three essays which together form my main arguments around the epistemological questions of if and how it is possible to gain and attain knowledge, and how its value might be ascertained. In the three essays I have attempted to illustrate some aspects of and possible hindrances to understanding and knowledge, while addressing what a feminist technoscience epistemology could signify for knowledge production. My intention in these three essays has also been to emphasize the ideological foundation of epistemological understandings, its implications both on what is viewed and valued as knowledge, and on what purpose knowledge production and research should have for and in society. In relation to these discussions I have tried to underline how feminist technoscience, as a research field, should be open to ongoing discussions about its own methodological, epistemological and ideological stances and its effects on research and society.

Esta dissertação analisa uma organização penitenciária, a Colônia Penal Feminina do Recife - CPFR, à luz do modelo de análise multidimensional-reflexivo de Alves (2003), utilizando também o modelo de Etzioni (1974) como abordagem complementar. Foram pesquisadas as características estruturais, os dispositivos de coordenação, as características dos agentes e os relacionamentos internos prevalecentes na CPFR, como também a ambiência sócio-afetiva das reeducandas. Posteriormente, procedeu-se a verificação da inter-relação existente entre essas duas esferas de análise: a configuração organizacional-administrativa da CPFR e a organização social das reclusas, sendo associados seus principais atributos com o proposto de se analisar a colônia em todas as suas esferas constituintes, da administrativa à espontaneamente criada. Sendo considerada uma pesquisa qualitativa, foram utilizadas três técnicas de coleta de dados: pesquisa documental, entrevista e observação. Os resultados remetem à conclusão que o modelo de análise multidimensional-reflexivo de Alves (2003, originalmente criado para organizações empresariais, mostra-se também aplicável para a compreensão do contexto utilitarista e normativo de uma penitenciária. No entanto, esse modelo apresenta limitações para o entendimento dos elementos coercitivos presentes na CPFR. Para o entendimento destes componentes não legítimos de autoridade, o modelo de Etzioni (1974) mostrou-se mais adequado, ampliando a capacidade de compreensão da organização pesquisada

O objetivo desse trabalho foi observar a evolução do modelo de jogo entre as categorias de base do voleibol feminino, analisando como cada categoria conquista o ponto e a como as variantes das ações de jogo que antecedem o ataque influenciam no seu desempenho no complexo I. Foram analisados três jogos das quatro melhores equipes classificadas da categoria infantil, infanto-juvenil e juvenil feminino, participantes do quadrangular final do Campeonato Metropolitano de São Paulo em 2009 organizado pela FPV. A coleta de dados foi realizada pelo sistema de vídeo. A análise dos dados comportou a estatística descritiva, pela obtenção de frequências e porcentagens, e a estatística inferencial pelo recurso ao Qui-quadrado e ao Phi de Cramer, no sentido de verificar a possível relação de dependência entre as vaiáveis do estudo. Através da análise descritiva observamos que a categoria infantil conquista mais pontos com o erro do adversário e as categorias infanto-juvenil e juvenil conquistam mais pontos com a ação de ataque. Com o avanço de categoria observamos uma tendência de aumento na recepção perfeita, na utilização do levantamento com toque em suspensão, do ataque contra um bloqueio duplo quebrado, na realização do ataque pela zona 2 bem como, um aumento na ocorrência dos ataques de 1º e 2º tempo e do ataque ponto. Assim como, uma diminuição na utilização do toque sem salto para o levantamento, dos ataques contra um bloqueio duplo compacto, da utilização dos ataques de 3º tempo e dos ataques que proporcionam a continuação do rally. Pela análise inferencial observamos uma relação de dependência estatisticamente significante do resultado do ataque com o resultado da recepção, a zona de levantamento, a técnica de levantamento, o resultado do levantamento, bem como com a zona de ataque, o tempo de ataque e tipo de ataque para todas as categorias
The main purpose of this study was to determine game model evolution on female volleyball under-age divisions. It was analyzed how each category wins the point and how the game actions that occur before the attack affects the performance on complex I. We analyzed three games of the four best ranked female teams in infantil, infanto-juvenil and juvenil divisions, participants of the city of São Paulo Championship in 2009. The data base was captured using video system. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, by obtaining frequencies and percentages, and inferential statistics by using chi- square and Phi Cramer, in order to verify the possible relationship of dependency between the study variables. Descriptive analysis revealed that the infantil division obtain more points with the errors of the opponent and the infanto-juvenil and juvenil divisions obtain more points with the attack. As players advance through the age divisions, there is a trend toward increasing the occurrence of perfect receptions, the use of jump sets, the attack against a broken double block, the attack in zone 2 as well as an increase in the occurrence of attacks of 1st and 2nd tempo and the attack point. Moreover, we observed a decrease in the use of overhead set without jump, attack against a compact double block, the use of 3rd tempo attack and attack that provide continued rally. For the inferential analysis we observed a statistically significant relationship of dependency between attack result and the serve reception result, the set zone, set technique, the result of the set, as well as the attack zone, the attack tempo and type of attack for all categories

Introdução: A toxicidade da cisplatina é bem compreendida nos sistemas renal, gastrointestinal, auditivo e nervoso, assim como na medula óssea. No entanto, os mecanismos causadores de infertilidade induzidos pela cisplatina são pouco compreendidos. Objetivo: Nosso objetivo foi verificar a participação do sistema calicreína-cininas e do estresse oxidativo na infertilidade induzida pela cisplatina, auxiliando no desenvolvimento de novas alternativas terapêuticas. Métodos: Os camundongos fêmeas C57BL/6 adultos (n=9) receberam dois ciclos de 2,5 mg/kg de cisplatina por via intraperitoneal durante cinco dias, com um período de recuperação de sete dias entre os ciclos. O grupo controle (n=9) recebeu solução de NaCl 0,9%. Foi feita a avaliação do ciclo estral e a contagem de folículos ovarianos. O marcador Ki67 foi avaliado por imunohistoquímica. Testes bioquímicos para calicreína plasmática, intersticial e glandular, tempo de tromboplastina parcial ativada (TTPa), óxido nítrico (NO), superóxido dismutase (SOD), glutationa reduzida (GSH), mieloperoxidase (MPO) e N-acetil glucosaminidase (NAG); e Western-blot para os receptores de bradicinina B1R e B2R também foram realizados Resultados: Após o protocolo de cisplatina, 100% das fêmeas do grupo controle mantiveram a ciclicidade estral versus 44,4% das fêmeas do grupo cisplatina. O grupo controle apresentou maior número de folículos antrais (p=0,011) e folículos viáveis totais (p=0,006). O grupo cisplatina apresentou maior número de folículos atrésicos (p=0,014). O marcador Ki67 demonstrou semelhantes taxas de proliferação celular entre os grupos. Os marcadores inflamatórios foram aumentados no grupo cisplatina, incluindo a geração de calicreína plasmática (p=0,003), a diminuição do TTPa (p=0,02), o aumento da atividade da calicreína intersticial (p=0,002) e glandular (p=0,008) e na expressão dos receptores B1R (p=0,001) e B2R (p=0,001), MPO (p=0,03) e NAG (p=0,04). Os marcadores de estresse oxidativo também foram aumentados no grupo cisplatina, com maior produção de NO (p=0,01) e diminuição na SOD (p=0,003) e na GSH (p=0,01). Conclusão: Todas as reações inflamatórias parecem ser ativadas pelo tratamento com cisplatina, exemplificadas pelo aumento da atividade da calicreína plasmática, intersticial e glandular, bem como a diminuição no TTPa e o aumento na expressão de B1R e B2R. A toxicidade mediada pela reação inflamatória da cisplatina é bem conhecida em seus efeitos colaterais, como ototoxicidade e nefrotoxicidade. Houve aumento da produção de NO nos ovários dos animais tratados, associado à indicação de menores concentrações de SOD e de GSH. Os desequilíbrios nos antioxidantes parecem contribuir para o estresse oxidativo ovariano. Quanto à MPO (neutrófilos) à NAG (macrófagos), a maior atividade de ambas no grupo cisplatina se explica pelo fato de que as células fagocíticas ativadas produzem grandes quantidades de espécies reativas de oxigênio, aumentando ainda mais o estresse oxidativo e a inflamação. O aumento da atividade do sistema calicreína-cininas e dos marcadores de estresse oxidativo no tecido ovariano propiciaram uma melhor compreensão da infertilidade induzida por cisplatina e indicam possíveis alternativas para proteção ovariana durante a quimioterapia, como inibidores do sistema calicreína-cinina e antioxidantes.
Background: Cisplatin toxicity is well understood in the renal, gastrointestinal, auditory and nervous systems, as well as in the bone marrow. However, the mechanisms causing infertility induced by cisplatin are poorly understood. Purpose: Our objective was to verify the participation of the kallikreinkinin system and oxidative stress in cisplatin-induced infertility, aiding in the development of new therapeutic alternatives. Methods: C57BL/6 adult (n=9) female mice received two 2.5 mg/kg intra-peritoneal cycles of cisplatin for five days, with a seven-day recovery period between cycles. The control group (n=9) received 0.9% NaCl solution. The ovarian follicles were counted with hematoxylin and eosin staining. Ki67 marker was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Biochemical tests for plasma, interstitial and glandular kallikrein, activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), nitric oxide (NO), superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and N-acetyl glucosaminidase (NAG); and Western blotting for the bradykinin B1R and B2R receptors were also performed. Results: After cisplatin protocol, 100% of the females in the control group maintained estral cyclicity versus 44.4% of females in cisplatin group. The control group had a higher number of antral follicles (p=0.011) and total viable follicles (p=0.006). Cisplatin group had a higher number of atretic follicles (p=0.014). Ki67 marker demonstrated similar rates of cell proliferation between groups. Inflammatory markers were increased in cisplatin group, including plasma kallikrein generation (p=0.003), a decrease of aPTT (p=0.02), increased interstitial (p=0.002) and glandular (p=0.008) kallikrein, B1R (p=0.001) and B2R (p=0.001) expression, MPO (p=0.03) and NAG (p=0.04) Oxidative stress markers were also increased in cisplatin group, with higher NO production (p=0.01) and a decrease in SOD (p=0.003) and GSH (p=0.01). Conclusion: All inflammatory reactions appear to be activated by cisplatin treatment, exemplified by increased plasma, interstitial and glandular kallikrein activity, as well as the decrease in aPTT and increased expression of B1R and B2R. The toxicity mediated by cisplatin inflammatory reaction is well known in its side effects, such as ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. There was an increase in NO production in the ovaries of treated animals, associated with the indication of lower concentrations of SOD and GSH. Imbalances in antioxidants appear to contribute to ovarian oxidative stress. Regarding MPO (neutrophils) and NAG (macrophages), the greater activity of both in cisplatin group is explained by the fact that activated phagocytic cells produce large amounts of reactive oxygen species, further increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. Increased activity of the kallikrein-kinin system and markers of oxidative stress in ovarian tissue provided a better understanding of cisplatin-induced infertility and indicate possible alternatives for ovarian protection during chemotherapy, such as inhibitors of the kallikrein-kinin system and antioxidants.

I en närläsning av Gustave Flauberts Madame Bovary fokuserar denna studie på huvudkaraktären, Emma Bovary, och hennes brytningar från de förväntningar som finns på henne som kvinna, hustru och moder. Förväntningar som bestämmer hur hon bör vara och agera. Emma jämförs dessutom med romanens andra kvinnor då även de analyseras. Studien utförs med stöd i feministiska teorier men även ett socialhistoriskt perspektiv används. Det resultat som går att finna består av Emmas ovilja till anpassning i sina kvinnliga roller. Hon vägrar vara enbart kvinnlig, sätter sig själv i första hand, frånsäger sig ansvaret för hem och hushåll och stöter bort sin dotter. Emma varken kan eller vill vara den kvinna som det förväntas av henne, istället vill hon vara den hon drömmer om och det i en annan verklighet än sin egen.

The purpose of this thesis is to use specific fat pornographic imagery as a means to help us understand fat tropes and fetishization. The goal is to use our understandings of masculinity and race within fatness to create a possible launching point for further study within the field of fat sexuality studies. My rationale for writing such a paper is because fat sexuality studies is a field which has very little content, but potential for incredible scholarship which can impact not only our understandings of fat bodies, but of all bodies. The method for this thesis involves looking at specific images of “still-image” fat pornography and using these images to explain theoretical conceptions of fat sexuality. My hope for the significance of this work is that it will help to more firmly place fat sexuality studies in the academic landscape as a site for further research.

Det finns mycket tidigare forskning kring könsrepresentation i media, dock är det inte alla medie-genrer som uppmärksammas och mode har ofta en marginaliserad roll i genusforskning. I denna uppsats undersöks hur den franska modetidningen Vogue Paris representerar ”la Parisienne” – den parisiska kvinnan – utifrån de två motsägande vetenskapsteorierna feminism och post-feminism. Syftet med denna uppsats är att bidra till den feministiska debatten kring mode och könsrepresentation i media och ge ny insikt kring hur modetidningen representerar kvinnan. Genom en kvalitativ innehållsanalys av olika modefotografi ur två nutida nummer av modetidningen som representerar ”la Parisienne”, med Roland Barthes semiotiska modell som metod, besvaras frågorna: hur representerar Vogue Paris ”la Parisienne” genom modefotografi; på vilket sätt (re)konstrueras myten om ”la Parisienne”, samt vad innefattar denna myt; hur kan denna representation/konstruktion uppfattas utifrån feminism respektive post-feminism; och slutligen, hur förhåller sig denna myt till den dominerande ideologin om kvinnlighet? I min undersökning kommer jag fram till att Vogue Paris konstruerar en motsägelsefull och kontrastfylld myt om ”la Parisienne”, som innefattar en innebörd som både feminin och sexuell men även naturlig och maskulin. ”La Parisienne” är en mångtydig representation och genom en feministisk kontra post-feministisk läsning av bilderna belyses två olika sidor av denna, både ideologiska men även njutningsfulla och uppskattade, identitet. Denna representation och myt går emot flera tidigare feministiska synpunkter kring medierepresentationen av kvinnan och flera av de opponerande feministiska ståndpunkterna angående mode – min uppsats belyser att mode inte alltid har en sexuell eller förtryckande natur. Representationen av kvinnan i form av ”la Parisienne” går främst emot den dominerande ideologin om kvinnlighet, som naturaliserar kvinnans roll som fru, hemmafru, mamma och sexuellt tillgängligt objekt. Parisiskan representeras dock ofta som sexuell, men framförallt som en aktiv, självständig, bestämd, icke-traditionell och fri kvinna.

Estudamos a série de livros “Jogos vorazes” (2010-2011) com o objetivo de demonstrar como se dá a permanência e a representação do modelo heroico da Antiguidade Clássica na Contemporaneidade por meio da análise da caracterização da personagem feminina Katniss Everdeen. Para tanto, enfocamos a personagem criada por Collins e as características que a definem como heroína, comparando-a ao modelo heroico clássico descrito por tantos autores da Grécia e Roma, como, por exemplo, Homero, Hesíodo, Vergílio, etc., e considerando também as reflexões sobre o herói tecidas por Campbell em O herói de mil faces (1997), dentre outros títulos e autores que embasam nossos estudos. Percebemos que há, na série, uma mudança na representação de arquétipos literários, a saber, herói clássico versus donzela clássica, visto que Katniss Everdeen assume o papel de herói e Peeta Mellark, tributo masculino, assume o papel de donzela, pois, em grande parte do enredo, é salvo por ela. Dessa forma, buscamos verificar o que desvia a trama em estudo dos moldes então estabelecidos pelos Clássicos, ou seja, como Collins redefine os padrões da Literatura Clássica greco-romana, nos quais o homem era guerreiro e a mulher era dona de casa. Para isso, iniciamos nossas considerações a partir de Jung (2002), porque autores como Randazzo (1996), Vogler (2006) e Meletínski (1998), dentre outros, partem das postulações do psicanalista suíço para discutirem a respeito de arquétipos encontrados na publicidade, literatura e cinema. No percurso do estudo da heroína, realizamos uma breve comparação entre Katniss, outrora escravazida pela Capital (em uma espécie de escravidão velada), que se torna heroína e símbolo de toda uma revolução, e o herói masculino de outra obra, Espártaco, escravo e gladiador da Trácia, que foi líder de uma revolução conhecida por Guerra dos Escravos, conforme se pode comprovar no romance Espártaco, de Howard Fast (1981), publicado originalmente em inglês em 1951, e no filme baseado nesta obra literária, de Stanley Kubrick (1960), com a finalidade principal de comprovar a mudança no tratamento dos arquétipos e averiguar a presença de elementos ligados à cultura romana na série escrita por Collins. Enfim, buscamos verificar de que modo o modelo de Herói Clássico, seja na figura dos heróis mitológicos, seja na personagem histórica de Espártaco, é representado na caracterização da protagonista feminina de “Jogos vorazes” e quais significados tais representações acrescentam à interpretação da série.
The present study aims at analyzing the series titled “The Hunger Games” to demonstrate, by observing the characterization of the female character Katniss Everdeen, how the representation of the heroic model from Classical Antiquity persists in Contemporary Literature. In order to do so, we have focused on the character created by Collins and the features that define her as a heroine, comparing her to the classical heroic model described by several authors in Greece and Rome, such as Homer, Hesiod, Vergil, etc., as well as to specifications about the hero character presented in “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” (1997), by Joseph Campbell, along with additional information on the topic provided by other authors. We have observed a change, in Collins’ novels, regarding the representation of literary archetypes, namely the classical Hero versus the classical Maiden, as Katniss Everdeen takes the role of the Hero and Peeta Mellark, the male tribute, plays the role of the Maiden, for throughout a large part of the plot he is saved by her. Therefore, we seeked to verify what deviates the plot in study from the patterns once established by Classical tradition, or, in other words, to observe how Collins redefines the standards of the Greco-Roman Classical Literature, in which the man was a warrior and the woman was a housewife. Our study is based on Jung (2002) because authors such as Randazzo (1996), Vogler (2006) and Meletínski (1998), among others, consider the postulates of the Swiss psychoanalyst to discuss archetypes found in advertising, literature and cinema. In the course of the study of the heroine, for the purpose of proving the change in the treatment of archetypes and ascertaining the presence of elements related to the Roman culture in the series written by Collins, we made a brief comparison between Katniss, once slaved by the Capitol (in a kind of veiled slavery), who becomes a heroine and a symbol of an entire revolution, and the male hero of another artwork, Spartacus, a slave and gladiator from Thrace who was the leader of a revolution known as the “War of the Slaves,” as it can be seen in Howard Fast’s (1981) novel Spartacus, originally published in English in 1951, and in the film based on this literary work, directed by Stanley Kubrick (1960). Finally, our study demonstrates that the Classical Hero model, whether taken from mythological heroes or from the historical character of Spartacus, plays an important role in the characterization of the female protagonist of “The Hunger Games,” adding different meanings to the interpretation of the series.

In Chapter One, I discuss definitions of romantic irony, and the various ways in which romantic irony might be viewed in conjunction with the work of these three authors. In order to approach a working definition of 'the romantic', I briefly frame the relationships between romance, romanticism and romantic irony, and establish a particular set of ideas and themes which I view as central to this concept. In this chapter I also develop a theoretical framework for the rest of the thesis, examining points of convergence and divergence between 'the romantic', feminism, post-colonialism, and postmodernism. In Chapter Two, I examine how Carter ironises the dynamic of the Romantic sublime in her work, and how her work develops from an exploration of abjection in her first novel, to an exploration of the sublime in proceeding novels. I view her work in conjunction with Bakhtin's ideas of the grotesque and Kristeva's ideas of the abject. This chapter also explores the role Romantic love plays in shaping the subjectivity of Carter's fictional characters, and connects this with the sublime, transgressive nature of love as Carter describes it in her fiction and journalism. In Chapter Three, I examine how Rushdie ironises and refigures various ideas within romance and romanticism, such as Romantic imagination, Romantic love, the Romantic artist as a hero and/or prophet, and the Romantic sublime (with regard to the dynamic between artist and (M)other). I discuss how these revisionings of Romantic ideas relate to issues of post-colonial identity such as the fate of nationalism and the construction of hybrid/migrant identities. I also question if Rushdie's reinvention of Romantic ideas doesn't to a certain extent reproduce the difficulties with representations of gender found within, especially, the dynamic of the Romantic sublime.

O Brasil tem cerca de 133 espécie s e subespécie de primatas, das quais cerca de 35% são endêmicas. A ocupação e destruição cada vez maior dos ambientes naturais somadas a caça e o comércio ilegal de animais silvestres deixou algumas espécies de primatas seriamente ameaçadas de extinção. O presente estudo trata da morfologia do aparelho reprodutor de fêmeas de bugio (Alouatta caraya e Alouatta guariba clamitans), cujos resultados podem subsidiar pesquisas de reprodução visando sua conservação. Dez aparelhos reprodutores foram estudados macro e microscopicamente pelas técnicas de microscopia de luz e microscopia eletrônica de varredura. As idades das fêmeas foram estimadas utilizando-se uma chave dental. Os resultados mostraram que a vulva em Alouatta assemelha-se a genitália externa dos machos. O útero é simples e piriforme, caracterizado por uma cérvix longa. A musculatura cervical mostra-se bem desenvolvida e a musculatura uterina está organizada de uma maneira peculiar. O epitélio vaginal não mostrou sofrer alterações cíclicas. A característica mais significativa foi a presença de grandes quantidades de tecido intersticial glandular nos compactos ovários. De uma maneira geral a morfologia do aparelho reprodutor das fêmeas de bugio mostram similaridades com outras espécies de Platyrrhinii e poucas diferenças interespecíficas (Alouatta caraya-Alouatta gurariba clamitans).
Brazil has about 133 primate?s species and subespecies among which 35% are endemic. The land occupation, the natural environments destruction, hunting and the illegal commerce of wild animals left some species seriously threatened of extinction. The present study deals with the morphology of the reproductive tract of howler monkeys (Alouatta guariba clamitans and Alouatta caraya), wich data can subdize further reproduction researches, aiming its conservation. Ten female reproductive tract were studied microscopically and macroscopically. The age of the animals was estimated using a dental-age key, most of them were sexually mature. Representative fragments of the uterus, ovary, uterine tube and vagina were cut and prepared for histology and scanning electron microscopy. Our data showed that the Alouatta female vulva resembles the external genitalia of the male. The uterus are pyriform and caracterized by a long cervix. The muscular layer of the cervix was well developed and the musculature of the body of the uterus showed a particular organization. The vaginal epitheliium showd no ciclic alterations. The most significant feature found seems to be the presence of abundant glandular interstitial tissue in the compact ovaries. The female reproductive tract morphology of the howler monkey showed similarities with other Platyrrhini and few interespecific (Alouatta guariba clamitans ?Alouatta caraya) differences.

The purpose of my scientific essay is to examine the identity creating processes that goes on amongst pupils as well as pedagogues in leisure time centers. This seen from a gender perspective. The questions in this essay revolves around me as a role model in the leisure time center and how I use the binary gender categories in my line of work. Moreover, how can I present a safe environment for my pupils to try out their identity from a gender perspective. I analyze my questions seen through a leisure time center pedagogue ́s everyday worksituation under the influence of a workplace jargon. A jargon that seems to be enhancing the polatity between the binary gender categories. The theories I use in my essay to reflect upon my questions is Kants philosophy about freedom and the categorical imperative, Lenz Taguchis description of feministic poststructuralistic theory and Butlers theory on sex and gender as socially and cultural constructed. Through my scientific essay I have reflected upon my role as a role model in a way that takes me through an identity creating process of my own in my profession as a leisure time center pedagogue. And by takinga glance on my own actions it has created a bigger understanding of what has formed my own identity as a pedagogue from a gender perspective. This hopefully will increase my ability to present a safe environment for my future pupils in their identity creating processes in the leisure time center in a gender perspective.
Syftet med min vetenskapliga essä är att undersöka identitetsskapande processer på fritidshemmet, både hos pedagoger och elever. Frågeställningarna i essän berör min roll som förebild som blivande fritidshemslärare, hur jag förhåller mig till könskategorierna kvinna och man, flicka och pojke i mitt arbete. Och vidare hur jag skapar trygghet för att eleverna i fritidshemmet ska känna sig fria att pröva sin identitetur ett köns och genusperspektiv. Dessa frågor belyser jag ur ett gestaltat dilemma om hur en fritidshemslärares vardag kan präglas av en arbetsplatsjargong. En jargong som jag upplever förstärker polariteteten mellan könskategorierna kvinna och man. De teorier jag använder för att reflektera kring min vetenskapliga essäs frågeställningar är Kants teori om frihet och det kategoriska imperativet, Lenz Taguchis beskrivning av feministisk poststrukturalistisk teori och Butlers teori om kön och genus som socialt och kulturellt konstruerade. Genom min vetenskapliga essä har jag reflekterat kring min roll som förebild. Att skriva essän har i sig varit en identitetsskapande process för mig då jag vänt blicken mot mig själv i en situation som jag tidigare inte förstått min roll i. Vidare har jag genom essäskrivandet börjat förstå vilken komplex process identitetsskapande är och hur dessa processer är något som pågår samtidigt hos flera personer i ett socialt sammanhang. Esta pesquisa busca compreender como o consumo midiático de padrões de beleza feminina, mais especificamente das modelos profissionais, pode estar implicado no desejo juvenil de seguir essa carreira. Filiando-se à abordagem sociocultural do consumo de García Canclini (2006) e à teoria do uso social dos meios (Martín-Barbero, 2003), investiga-se como a mídia e a família operam mediações na construção desse desejo. A noção de sonho, desde o aporte de Campbell (2001), e de projeto de vida (Velho, 2003) também são mobilizadas para dar conta da problemática. A partir de uma perspectiva multimetodológica, os dados construídos em campo evidenciaram a dimensão do prazer e da fantasia que estão inscritos no sonho de ser modelo e na relação que as jovens estabelecem com os conteúdos midiáticos sobre essa atividade profissional.
This research aims to understand how the media consumption of feminine beauty standarts, more specifically of professional models, may be implicated in the youthful desire of following a modeling career. Adhering to García Canclini (2006) sociocultural approach of consumption, and to the social use of media theory (Martín-Barbero, 2003), it investigates how media and family operate as mediators of this desire’s construction. The notions of “dream” (Campbell, 2001) and “life projects” (Velho, 2003) are also utilized to explain the issue. From a multimethod perspective, the data constructed in the field evidenced the dimensions of pleasure and fantasy inscribed into the dream of being a model and in the relation that young women establish with media content regarding this professional activity.

O presente estudo visa desenvolver um modelo de an?lise de personagem, no caso, do protagonismo feminino nas narrativas audiovisuais, identificando a presen?a desse protagonismo, de forma proativa, e seu desempenho na narrativa. A partir do conceito de Protagonismo Feminino Proativo, considera-se uma protagonista feminina aquela que participa ativamente da trama, desempenhando ou n?o papel de lideran?a, representada de forma equivalente aos protagonistas masculinos, exercendo influ?ncia e relev?ncia nos acontecimentos da narrativa. O recorte escolhido foi o universo da fic??o cient?fica, no qual o g?nero dist?pico est? em evid?ncia nas produ??es audiovisuais. Utiliza como objetos de an?lise os filmes Jogos Vorazes (2012); Em Chamas (2013); A esperan?a: Parte 1 (2014); A esperan?a: o final (2015). Para analisar o arco narrativo dessa distopia, recorre ao esquema adaptado por Vogler (2015) da Jornada do Her?i, de Joseph Campbell. Na an?lise da protagonista Katniss, contextualiza a forma??o da identidade com base em Castells (2013) e Butler (2016), utilizando o m?todo an?lise de conte?do, que investiga os fen?menos simb?licos por meio da codifica??o e da categoriza??o. O procedimento adotado ? o estudo de caso, tendo por base os Estudos Narrativos (estudos da m?dia) e os estudos feministas a fim de identificar estruturas, elementos e similaridades nas pe?as audiovisuais analisadas. Como t?cnica de coleta de dados, a partir da perspectiva dos estudos feministas, apresenta a compila??o de dados colhidos por meio de entrevistas, visando identificar percep??es de diferentes p?blicos sobre o objeto emp?rico (Jogos Vorazes), gerando 1119 entrevistas. Os resultados apontam diverg?ncias sobre a presen?a do protagonismo feminino no audiovisual percebido por homens e mulheres, assim como as principais caracter?sticas positivas e negativas percebidas pelo p?blico. A diverg?ncia entre os olhares masculinos e femininos sobre a mulher mediada evidencia o desequil?brio nas representa??es de g?nero do audiovisual.
The present study aims to develop a model of analysis of female protagonism in audiovisual narratives. The model intends to identify the presence of proactive female protagonism and its performance within the narrative. Based on the concept of Proactive Feminine Protagonism, the female protagonist is an active participant in the plot, playing or not a leadership role, represented in an equivalent way to the male protagonists, and exerting influence and relevance in the events of the narrative. The chosen cut was the universe of science fiction, in which the dystopic genre is evidenced in the audiovisual productions. The films Hunger Games (2012) are used as analysis objects; Catching Fire (2013); The Hope: Part 1 (2014); The hope: the end (2015). To analyze the narrative arc of these dystopias, we use the scheme adapted by Vogler (2015) from Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. In the analysis of the protagonist Katniss (Hunger Games); contextualizes the formation of identity based on Castells (2013) and Butler (2016). Using the content analysis method, it investigates symbolic phenomena through coding and categorization. The procedure adopted is the case study, A through Narrative Studies (in the media) and the feminist studies to identify structures, elements and similarities in the analyzed audiovisual pieces. As a data collection technique, from the perspective of feminist studies, it presents the compilation of data collected through interviews, aiming to identify perceptions of different publics about the empirical object (Voracious Games), generating 1119 interviews. The results point to divergences about the presence of female protagonism in the audiovisual perceived by men and women, as well as the main positive and negative characteristics perceived by the public. The divergence between the masculine and feminine looks on the mediated woman evidences the imbalance in the representations of gender of the audiovisual.

Girls’ withdrawal from school is posing a major challenge to female literacy in Afghanistan. The aim of this research was to examine the influence of Afghan traditions and cultural norms on girls’ school withdrawal by parents or guardians in Khinjan District of Baghlan Province. To achieve this aim the accounts of 12 mothers with daughters pulled out of school were obtained through semi-structured interviews and analyzed via the theoretical lens of Existentialist Feminism and Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Model. The findings suggest that in order to address the problem of girls’ withdrawal from school in Khinjan, the informal communication networks that reinforce the tendency of parents/guardians, especially male ones, to withdraw the girls from school should be influenced by communication channels in the district. Grounded on Paulo Freire’s concept of dialogue for liberation, it is recommended that credible members in the community should initiate and engage in a transforming dialogue about education of girls, with Khinjanis.

Female entrepreneurship is a form of income generation in the face of the unemployment faced in our country. In addition, it is the way that women find to assume their multiple roles in our society. This work is about the determinants of female entrepreneurship in Brazil based on the model of occupational choice, using the data from the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of 2015. The empirical strategy adopted employed the discrete choice model in the estimation of occupational choice. The estimated model of occupational choice showed that there are significant effects on the variables: schooling, presence of children under ten at home and marital status.

Al?m disso, ? a maneira que a mulher encontra de assumir a seus m?ltiplos pap?is em nossa sociedade. Este trabalho ? sobre os determinantes do empreendedorismo feminino no Brasil a partir de modelo de escolha ocupacional, usando os microdados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domic?lios (PNAD) do ano de 2015. A estrat?gica emp?rica adotada empregou o modelo de escolha discreta na estima??o da escolha ocupacional. O modelo estimado de escolha ocupacional demonstrou que existem efeitos significativos para as vari?veis: escolaridade, presen?a de crian?as menores de dez anos no domic?lio e estado civil.

Este trabalho tem como intuito propor um modelo de inovação para a indústria da moda feminina. O modelo visa compreender o comportamento de estilos e tendências determinados e difundidos pelas empresas. A construção deste modelo é justificada pela contribuição que um estudo sobre inovação pode proporcionar à indústria da moda, a qual enfrenta baixos padrões de competitividade no mercado externo e interno. Além disso, embora existam muitos artigos sobre o assunto, poucos foram os modelos de inovação para a indústria da moda encontrados por esta pesquisa. Uma avaliação destes modelos indicou que existe espaço para a proposta de um modelo que aborde o comportamento de estilos e tendências ao longo do tempo. A estrutura de composição do modelo é sustentada por três pilares conceituais: teoria econômica neoschumpeteriana, modelos de inovação e modelos de inovação para a indústria da moda. A característica central do modelo é avaliar se existem estilos que permanecem em moda de maneira contínua ou descontínua. Como existe similaridade conceitual entre os estilos, no que se refere à identidade de gênero (androginia e feminilidade), foi efetuada uma aglutinação de alguns estilos dentro desta denominação. Nem todos os estilos se encaixaram nesta classificação. Então, estes estilos foram denominados como neutros. Como a pesquisa tem abordagem fenomenológica, qualitativa e longitudinal, foi adotada a metodologia hipotética dedutiva para a construção do modelo. Para verificação da validade das hipóteses foi usada uma análise exploratória dos dados por meio de estatística descritiva e decomposição da estrutura de variabilidade através de uma análise de componentes principais (PCA). Ambas as análises forneceram evidências a respeito das hipóteses em questão, as quais também foram testadas através de um teste binomial e de uma análise de variância multivariada por meio de permutações. Os resultados comprovaram que existem estilos que permanecem em moda de maneira contínua e que existem períodos de polarização das aglutinações de estilo.
This work aims at proposing an innovation model for the women\'s fashion industry, which intends to understand the behavior of styles and trends spread by companies. The justification for building this model lies in the contribution an innovation study can offer to the fashion industry, which faces low competitiveness patterns in the external as well as internal market. In addition, although there are lots of papers related to this topic, there were only few innovation models found by this research. An evaluation of these models indicated that there is room for a model proposal that addresses style and trends over time. The model composition structure is supported by three conceptual pillars: neo-schumpeterian economic theory, innovation models and innovation models for the fashion industry. The central feature of the model is to evaluate whether there are fashion styles that remain in fashion in a continuous or discontinuous manner. As there is conceptual similarity between the styles, related to gender identity (androgyny and femininity), an agglutination of some styles was performed within this description. No all styles fit into this classification, then, these styles were called neutral. As this research is based on a phenomenological, qualitative and longitudinal approach, the methodology adopted was hypothetical deductive. In order to verify the hypotheses, an exploratory data analysis was developed, by means of descriptive statistic and decomposition of variability structure through a principal component analysis (PCA). Both analyses provided evidence about the considered hypotheses, which were tested using a binomial test and a multivariate variance analysis by means of permutations. The results showed there are fashion styles that remain continuously fashionable and there are polarizations periods of style agglutinations.

Introdução: A cada ano, são diagnosticados mais de um milhão de novos casos de câncer de mama em mulheres no mundo. Os países mais desenvolvidos apresentam as maiores incidências, enquanto a mortalidade é maior nos países em desenvolvimento. No Brasil, as incidências mais elevadas se localizam nas regiões Sul e Sudeste. Nos últimos cinco anos, a incidência de câncer de mama aumentou cerca de 30 por cento nos países do ocidente, porém, a partir do ano 2000, observa-se ligeiro decréscimo na mortalidade. A investigação simultânea sobre a incidência e a mortalidade pode fornecer informações sobre a etiologia da doença, e a análise dos efeitos da idade, período e da coorte facilita a compreensão dos mecanismos responsáveis pela variação nas tendências. Objetivos: Analisar as tendências da incidência e da mortalidade por câncer de mama feminino no município de São Paulo, segundo os efeitos da idade, período e coorte. Métodos: Foram analisadas a incidência no período de 1997 a 2005, e a mortalidade no período de 1982 a 2005. Os dados foram obtidos no Registro de Câncer de Base Populacional de São Paulo, no Sistema de Mortalidade do Ministério da Saúde (SIM-MS) e no Instituto Brasileiro Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Os efeitos da idade, do período e da coorte na tendência dos coeficientes de incidência e mortalidade foram analisados pelo modelo de regressão de Poisson. Resultados: As tendências da incidência e da mortalidade aumentam com a idade, porém esse efeito é maior na mortalidade, sobretudo entre as mulheres com idade a partir dos 50 anos. O efeito do período apresentou tendência crescente para a incidência no período entre 2003 e 2005, que coincide com o início dos mutirões de mamografia no município de São Paulo. Para a mortalidade, a tendência foi decrescente no mesmo período. O efeito da coorte apresentou tendência decrescente a partir das coortes mais antigas, estável na maioria das gerações intermediárias, e decrescente nas coortes mais recentes tanto para incidência quanto para mortalidade. Conclusão: O padrão observado no município de São Paulo é semelhante ao observado em países mais desenvolvidos como Estados Unidos, Austrália e Reino Unido
Introduction: Every year, over one million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide. Incidence rates are higher in industrialised countries; conversely, mortality rates are higher in developing countries. In Brazil, the highest incidence rates are found in southeastern and southern states. In the last five years, breast cancer incidence rates have increased approximately 30 per cent in most western countries, however, since 2000, a slight decrease has in mortality been observed. Simultaneous investigations on incidence and mortality provide important clues for disease aetiology, and the age-period-cohort model is an useful approach to understand time trends mechanisms. Objectives: To examine time trends in the female breast cancer incidence and breast cancer mortality by age, period and cohort effects. Methods: Incidence was analyzed between 1997 and 2005, and mortality was analyzed between 1982 and 2005. Data were obtained from São Paulo Cancer Registry, Mortality System of Health Ministry, and Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic. The effects of age, period and cohort were estimated using a Poisson regression model. Results: Time trends for breast cancer incidence and mortality increase across all age groups, but this effect is more pronounced in mortality rates, especially for women older than 50 years. Period effect in incidence increased between 2003 and 2005, and this coincide with the beginning of the mamography screening programs in São Paulo. The mortality decreased on the same period. The cohort effect in incidence and mortality suggested a decrease in older birth cohort, a levering between 1930 and 1969, and a slight decrease for women born after 1970s. Conclusion: The time trends patterns observed in São Paulo are similar to the ones observed in some developed countries, such United States, Australia and United Kingdom

Although many feminist fairy-tale scholars have theorized how the tales shape the lives of their readers, few have explicitly examined what readers themselves have to say about how fairy tales impacted their choices and expectation. This article turns to fanfiction written by fans of ABC's Once Upon a Time television series to discover how these fans challenge or reify fairy-tale expectations, particularly in terms of gender. After outlining the brief history of fairy-tale reception studies concerned with gender, the article then turns to a close reading of three OUAT fanfiction retellings of Beauty and the Beast that show the couple in contemporary settings dealing with ordinary and magic-less problems, such as a loveless marriage, sexual violence, and the stillbirth of a child. The close reading of these stories reveal that even as they challenge the passive princess ideal seen in many early Disney retellings, they also challenge the ideal of the handsome prince who can ensure a happily ever after. Instead of saving the heroine from impending trauma, the hero must support her as she copes after trauma has already struck. In each of these stories, the couples must empathetically relate to each other's pain, support rather than force the recovery process, and redefine happily ever after as dynamic, peaceful moments rather than an absolute, static ending. The analysis of fanfiction writer and reader interactions reveals that these stories are also used as models for the readers' and writers' own experiences in supporting friends who have gone through trauma, emphasizing that fairy tales are still relevant to their readers' lives.
